Julius Caesar
c. 1455–60
Mino da Fiesole (Italian, c. 1430–1484)
garland by Mino da Fiesole and Workshop (Italian, c. 1430–1484)
"Renowned Roman general and statesman Julius Caesar (100–44 BCE) appears here as a political rather than military leader, worn by the burdens of office, with carefully described signs of aging. Mino probably used ancient coins from the collection of the Medici, Florence's ruling family, as his starting point for this sculpture. However, the complex carving, the clinging drapery, and the psychological intensity all characterize the inventiveness Renaissance artists brought to classical subject matter. In this case, Caesar offered an important model for leadership, masculinity, and composure. The garland is clearly by a different hand, but passages, such as the ribbons and flowers in low relief, correspond to details found in other decorative carvings from Mino's workshop. Initially, the limestone setting was probably put into a wall, perhaps in a lunette over the door, from which it was later removed. However, the relationship between the garland and the relief has not yet been clarified and is the subject of ongoing research."

1467 Update: Stacey had her second set of twins! Diana and Pomona were born shortly after the start of the year. Unfortunately, Pomona died of a cleft lip shortly after birth. Both Stacey and Achilles have decided they don't want more children, despite not having a male heir, as they have their hands full raising five girls.
However, an ill wind blows for the Westbrooks. Will their opinions change as they face the struggles of next year? Will the Watcher even allow for them to stop with no heir?

Max Irons and Rebecca Ferguson in The White Queen (2013) In Love with the King
E1
In 1464 Elizabeth Grey, née Woodville, widowed when her husband Thomas was killed at the battle of St Alban's fighting for the Lancastrian king Henry VI approaches the young Yorkist king Edward IV. She requests him to enforce restitution from her husband's family for herself and her two little boys. Against the wishes of his powerful cousin Warwick, Edward falls for Elizabeth, a suit encouraged by her mother, sorceress Jacquetta - though not her father, Baron Rivers who lacks Jacquetta's pragmatism when Edward requires him and his sons to fight on the Yorkist side. When Elizabeth refuses to be Edward's mistress they secretly marry. Her brother Anthony finds out and is appalled, believing the wedding was a sham and the king intends to marry a French princess. However Edward publicly announces that Elizabeth is his wife. The Lancastrian Margaret Beaufort is unhappy with the news, as is Edward's mother Cecily but Jacquetta cleverly outwits her and Elizabeth is hailed as the queen of England.
*The oak tree under which Edward and Elizabeth first met was located outside the Northamptonshire village of Potterspury and was known locally as 'The Queen's Oak' until it finally died in 1997 (although subsequent testing suggested that it only dated to 1650!).

The White Lady of Burg Wolfsegg
In the old gothic castle of Burg Wolfsegg in Germany, there is a local castle legend about a White Lady haunting the place. The ghost is supposedly of one of the Countess living there who was murdered by her husband.

I firmly believe that any movement focused on how you *think* people should act instead of how they *actually* act is doomed to failure. In light of that I think it's clear that Democrats have failed to engage voters and drive turnout, and they desperately need a new strategy before 2026.
My sympathy for the absolute children who think it's a candidate's responsibility to get them "excited" about politics in exchange for spending the time to vote one day out of every 1460 instead of viewing being an educated voter as a civic responsibility is at an absolute fucking zero right now
#'oh so i'm supposed to vote JUST because trump is a fascist?? even though i don't feel like dems really CARE about me???'#you're always supposed to vote dipshit it came free with your democracy#and yes i'm aware that elections happen more often than every 1460 days#but i suspect the people who can't be bothered to vote for president are not showing up for midterms and primaries either#us politics

1466 Update: Aurora turned 6 this year while little Flora has begun toddling about! Stacey's prediction about having more children rang truer than she'd hoped, as she's expecting again despite being happy with the number of children she already has.
