Fiction-wise, this was actually a better year than you'd think from just eyeballing the list. The overall numbers are still below par, and there's too much shlocky formulaic mystery-series-type stuff; but there was a lot of real quality in there. I had real trouble deciding on my top two, and I ended up not giving either prize to a book by Jenna Moran writing at her normal level of quality, so that says something. There were a number of books that disappointed by not being amazing but that I'm still glad to have read (e.g. Summer in Orcus, The Hands of the Emperor). Even the shlocky formulaic stuff had more merit than you might expect, in many cases.

Serious contemplatively-emotional litfic is real good, at its best. Turns out.

Non-fiction-wise, this was a shitshow of unparalleled proportions. I read almost nothing, and what I read was uninspiring. (I started s number of things that I failed to finish, which didn't help.) I seriously considered making this a "no award" year. I am once again asking for your recommendations for really good, deeply-informative, blow-your-mind-open non-fiction.

7. 4. 2023 - Ach ty pláště

Dnes moje vyjížďka skončila ještě než začala. Byl jsem už oblečený, ale ještě jsem na chodbě před bytem kontroloval nafoukání a stav plášťů. Bohužel na zadním plášti jsem objevil bouli.

Takže jsem se zase vrátil domů. Zadní kolo jsem sundal a vyfoukl. Protože tam bylo čerstvě dolité mlíko, tak jsem to musel ve vaně vypláchnout. Při kontrole jsem pak pohmatem poznal, že v místě boule je plášť zeslabený.

Takže jsem teď zase před výběrem nového. Maxxis si tím skazil můj názor na něj. Doteď se jevil jako asi nejlepší obutí na Rejnoka.

K dnešnímu dni mám na Rejnokovi nadupáno 6 927 km. Od začátku si vedu historii jeho vybavení. Poznal jsem, že bezdušové pláště nejsou zrovna držáky. Zatím jsem na Rejnokovi vyzkoušel:

A co uvést k jednotlivým plášťům? Celkově mě překvapila nízká výdrž. U každého se kolem druhého megametru začali množit defekty. Tak jsem měnil vždy oba i když třeba defekty nastávaly jen na předním nebo zadním plášti. Nedržel jsem se značky a typu, ale stále jsem byl v testovacím režimu a hledání nejvhodnějšího pláště. Ale s Panaracely jsem to už nedodržel a když jsem na zadním plášti udělal větší díru, ve které opakovaně nedržel knot, 

tak jsme tam dal Maxxis Rambler. Přední jsem nechal. Aź později jsem tam vyzkoušel WTB. Byl jsem zvědavý jak se bude jezdit s hladčím běhounem. Ale nebylo to ono. V zatáčkách na mokru nebo na polňáčkách, obzvlášť, když bylo trošku blátíčko, jsem necíl vůbec žádnou stabilitu. Tak šel dolů. A protože se ten Maxxis na zadním kole jevil dobře, tak jsem ho pořídil i dopředu. 

Ale teď jsem zase na začátku. budu zase pátrat. Zatím se mi nechce tam dát duše, I když to je také řešení.

Zaniklá tvrz Turyň v Litoboři

Tato tvrz vznikla v dávných dobách na příkrém ostrohu nad tokem Zlámaného potoka, který je dnes nazýván jako Hluboký, a jeho bezejmenného přítoku. Ze tří stran je dodnes obklopen lesem, jen severozápadním směrem se nacházejí louky, pole a přístupová cesta z Litoboře. Jedna z nepodložených teorií tvrdí, že název obdržela podle toho, že byla opěrným bodem v dobách válek s duryňskými nájezdníky v 10. století. Podle místní pověsti byla založena bájným silákem Ctiborem, který zvítězil v klání nad německým rytířem (heraldická pověst k erbu Bernarda Žehušického z Nestajova). Z této tvrze měla též pocházet hluchoněmá dívka, jež se uzdravila poté, co se napila z boušínské studánky. Podle některých autorů z 19. století bychom měli hledat její počátky ve staroslovanském hradišti, pokud nebylo vybudováno ještě dříve.

Prvním známým vlastníkem tvrze je Ješek z Litoboře, který byl v letech 1369-1372 též pánem na Chvalči. V roce 1372 je připomínán také jeho bratr Lítek Hanuš z Chlumu seděním na Litoboři, který byl v letech 1405-1414 spolupatronem kostela sv. Ducha na Hořičkách. Jeho nástupci byli od té doby nazýváni jako Litobořští z Chlumu. Václav z Chlumu (1433-1448) zapsal své manželce Kateřině věno na Hořičkách a Libňatově. Toto věno si vyprosil roku 1479 Jiří z Chlumu a z Litoboře, který byl již od roku 1464 připomínán jako pán na Litoboři, protože 9. července 1464 založil rychtu v Libňatově a v témže roce postavil na Boušíně dřevěnou kapli.

Jeho syny byli nejspíše Arnošt a Jan Litobořští z Chlumu, přičemž Jan seděl na Žírci, Sekeřicích, Milčevsi, Jenštejně a Pecce a zemřel v roce 1542. Právě od nich koupil litobořské zboží Kryštof ze Švamberka, ale již před rokem 1517 prodal Litoboř, Chlístov a Hořičky Petrovi Adršpachovi z Dubé, čímž se tvrz dostala pod rýzmburské panství, a tudíž již nebyla jako panské sídlo potřeba. Zpustnout však musela již koncem 15. století, protože k roku 1487 je uváděna výslovně jako pustá a v roce 1534 při prodeji rýzmburského panství byla úplně pustá.

Při rozdělení téhož panství před rokem 1582 se dostal jeden díl vsi k Rýzmburku a druhý k Adršpachu. Za skutečné rozdělení lze považovat smlouvu z 6. dubna 1579, kdy rýzmburské panství zůstalo sestrám zemřelého Hertvíka Žehušického z Nestajova - Mandaléně, manželce Adama Úlibského z Újezdce a z Kounic, Alžbětě, manželce Adama Bohdaneckého z Hodkova, a Lidmile, manželce Čertorejského z Čertorej, přičemž ještě v témže roce byly některé části panství odprodány. K rozdělení v praxi však došlo teprve následujícího roku, kdy Mandaléna obdržela rýzmburské majetky, Alžběta teplické a adršpašské zboží a Lidmila a její dědicové panství skalské a stárkovské. Mandaléna Úlibská z Nestajova prodala roku 1586 dvory kmecí v Litoboři, které dosud patřily k Rýzmburku, Jiříkovi z Dobřenic, vlastníkovi Třebešova, s nímž se dostaly později k Náchodu. Druhou část držela Alžběta Bohdanecká z Nestajova ještě v roce 1595, pak ji měl Petr Straka z Nedabylic (kolem roku 1600) a jeho potomci.

Na přelomu 18. a 19. století století byly zbytky tvrze úplně rozebrány, neboť kamenů z ní bylo využito jako stavebního materiálu na zdejší usedlosti. Sklepy a studny byly poté zasypány a bývalé tvrziště, zvané dosud Na Turyni, bylo osázeno drnem a později předěláno na ovocný sad, v jehož blízkosti byl postaven Vondráčkův statek čp. 1.

Protože tvrz zanikla tak brzo a nic se z ní nezachovalo, není o ní velká zmínka ani v díle „Soupis památek historických a uměleckých v politickém okresu Náchodském“, jež napsal PhDr. Zdeněk Wirth s příspěvky Františka Macháta: „TVRZ připomíná se poprvé r. 1369 (Ješek z Litoboře), později dostala se k panství ryzmburskému; r. 1534 při prodeji tohoto panství slove již pustou. R. 1613 dostala se půle s Třebešovem k panství náchodskému, r. 1637 s Heřmanicemi druhá část. Tvrz, nyní čtvrtlán čís. 1., byla zbudována na ostrohu, vroubeném lesem a potokem. Zbyly z ní nepatrně znatelné valy; studně a sklepy již dříve zasypány.“ Od 28. února 1964 je tvrziště památkově chráněno, neboť bylo zapsáno do státního seznamu kulturních památek (viz https://www.pamatkovykatalog.cz/tvrziste-777651).

Dnes z ní zůstaly skutečně jen spoře viditelné zbytky valů, případně občas dojde k nějakému archeologickému nálezu, např. v místě čp. 1, na předpolí tvrze „Turyň“, nalezl v roce 1960 Antonín Vondráček středověkou keramiku z 15. - 16. století. To vyvolalo zájem archeologů, a tak o 22 let později prozkoumal podrobně turyňské tvrziště archeolog okresního muzea v Náchodě PhDr. Zdeněk Lochmann. Vedle toho je tvrz mnohokrát zmiňována v různých literárních dílech, např. v povídce "Na Turýně" od Karla J. Pleskače, v knize "Z různých časů" od Václava Řezníčka či v "Babičce" Boženy Němcové, jejíž návštěva tvrziště je doložena roku 1837, ale podle všeho sem zavítala několikrát ještě v rámci svého dětství.

This might be traumatic for some. I did not write it with the intention of dubious consent and K my beta, and one of the mods of the fest, assured me it was within the bounds of the fest. It was written to showcase how she wants better than what she is getting with him. The idea of consent that I tried to work with was that Draco has been raised in shame and Harry is patient with her, asking her to voice what she wants from/with him—as explicitly as she can. It is supposed to be a woman finding her own agency in sex, and knowing that it is okay to want more and not settling for anything less. IDK if it came across like that, I kinda wrote it in two days since I had a lot going on and forgot I had a deadline. It was definitely intended to be longer.

Summary:  Some, like Pride, looked and saw only the surface interactions, but that was where the Hero of Ishval and the Hawk’s Eye failed. Intimacy was a condition that the best poker face could not mask. And Mustang was no exception to the rule: Men in love were fools, risking ruin to indulge their own desires. And at the very heart of the issue, Wrath knew because he and his wife were not so different.

Wrath stalked the underground corridors beneath Central Command with singular purpose.  His eyelids felt heavy, and his aged muscles ached from his latest tussle with two Xingese warriors.  Yet, Wrath couldn’t remember feeling so alive, so consumed by meaningful purpose.  Certainly, not since he’d assumed the tiresome mantle of Fuhrer.

But this clandestine meeting would not contain the monotonous bureaucratic bullshit that paraded through his chambers on a daily basis.  This gathering was called by Father; therefore, Wrath’s presence was neither trivial nor optional.  Father’s summons could only mean that swift action was required.  The kind of ruthless undertaking that quieted Wrath’s nerves, making the mundane annoyances of everyday life less infuriating, perhaps even bearable.

And given the timing of Father’s writ Wrath did not have to wonder what was on the docket.  This was about the candidates, specifically Roy Mustang and the Elrics.  The corners of Wrath’s stern mouth twitched in anticipation.

Though he knew his way to Father’s underground lair well enough, the homunculus’ lantern sent circles of light billowing out into the darkness before him to illuminate the rarely trodden path. However, the encroaching darkness seemed to swallow more luminosity with each descending step.  Wrath sensed rather than saw a capricious presence lurking just beyond his field of vision.

“That was quite the performance at dinner tonight, son.”  It wasn’t a compliment, just an observation.  Undoubtedly, Wrath’s statement would rouse something akin to haughtiness in his unseen escort.  “Tell me, was it for the woman’s benefit or have you grown accustomed to playing happy family?”
