Okay and day 7's post is that drabble about fallout i talked about a few days back! Please lemme know if you'd like to hear more on the next drabble day because ill just be writing about whatever comes to mind next if not <3

It takes a loooong while for any of them to believe you about the bombs, and even longer for them to trust you enough to leave the vault with you.

It helps when you mention you had been frozen in a similar way and were a veteran before that.

Ghost and Roach are silent when they see the wastes. Price and Gaz are quick to map out their surroundings.

They ask you questions about enemies and weather patterns.

Soap is following your every step, he follows your lead completely. He asks any and all questions about your animals

A Brahmin, 2 dogs, and your young deathclaw.

He takes to the animals quickly. Surprisingly your deathclaw takes to him as well.

You’re so glad you have your animals carry extra munitions.

There arn’t many weapons left in the vault.

You’re assuming the rest of the staff took off with them, or they expected a better outcome then what the world is now.

You've read the little snippets of unredacted information you had found in the vault.

They’re a fully trained task force, and you’ve trusted way shadier folks with waaaay less training.

You get them all fully armed, though they dont leave you without payment of sorts.

They had let you take body armor from the vault since they had full access.

You're not entirely sure what all they grabbed but you arn’t about to try and take any or pry about anything.

You’re essentially an honorary member of the 141.

Is what you and Soap say. The others aren't on board that quickly.

You're on your way back to sanctuary with them, your first foothold in the wastes since you woke up.

It's a weeks’ travel so you take watch with Gaz.

You spend your time telling him what to look for, showing him the telltale signs of enemies and storms approaching.

You both hit it off after the first hour and end up chatting about your past lives.

He switches off with Soap and you insist that you don’t need much rest.

You really don’t but Soap is persuasive and you end up taking a few minutes to catch him up before resting.

There’s no issues that night, a relief to Ghost, who you are fairly sure was awoken by every passing breeze.

Soap somehow even taught your deathclaw to fetch somehow.

Your new group pulls together a breakfast from the rations they brought from the vault.

Soap and Gaz get into conversation about the animals.

Price takes this chance to talk to you more about Sanctuary.

Sanctuary has been heavily modified after you took charge from Preston.

There's more than enough space for all of them and you’d never say no to more protection for your people.

Though in your chatter you end up mentioning the Minutemen and the Castle and Price is full attention.

You start to wonder if you’d even find a single place where these guys would settle.

Because after you mention all the settlements you patrol they all chime in with questions.

All 12 settlements you have are heavily guarded, especially by wasteland standards.

They all seem impressed at the setup you’re running, even Ghost.

You take it as a huge compliment.

You go over your ideas for the wastes and they listen intently.

When you first got out you wanted to help as many folks as you could.

You did a lot and you know with certainty that you see the same desire in all of their eyes.

You explain how the commonwealth all fear the Institute.

Skipping the part about Shaun being their leader.

You've already decided he’s not your family anymore.

How can you consider him family when he’s been raised and grown by strangers? When he is a stranger himself?

You've been blocking that issue from your mind while focusing on restoring what you can of the wastes yourself.

Your efforts have proven fruitful, your deathclaw taming being a huge leap forward already.

With so many more hands your excitement mounts and the unlikely possibilities seem much more attainable now.

Of course you hit a snag in the road immediately

A rad storm is fast approaching while the lot of you are still about 3 days out from Sanctuary.

Lucky for all of you there’s an old office building in your path with a nicely sized basement because you DO NOT have enough Rad away for everyone.

Everyone sets up camp again, preparing for a couple nights of sheltering in place.

Roach approaches you this time, asking about the maps your pipboy has and you talk landscapes and terrain while he draws out an actual map.

You hope you can get your hands on more pipboys for them, but for now you keep your focus on the day ahead.

It's nice to have since its difficult for everyone to crowd around you for a glance at the small screen.

anyway. shadow!soap AU except soap doesn't really have any loyalty to them—doesn't have loyalties to anyone, for that matter. he operates on a self-preservation basis, for whatever outcome would benefit him the most; he doesn't care what or who he's fighting for, so long as they're the highest bidder. moral ground rocky at best, soap has a habit of completing a job, reaping the rewards, and disappearing before things get hairy.

and right now, it just so happens that shadow company is paying the most.

everything is going as expected, at first. but then the betrayal happens—and while soap doesn't care, doesn't feeling anything about it, he does wish someone would have told him beforehand. because now, dealing with the fallout, that need for survival presents him with two options: stay with the company that pays him well, or decrease his chance of getting killed by the 141 by ditching the company’s side.

because while the 141 is small, they're also mighty. soap has witnessed how efficient they are and, ultimately, decides that it's their side he'd rather be on. he does some mental calculations, and figures his benefit lies with the side that was betrayed. so, during that initial fiasco, soap follows ghost to las almas.

the bastard, however, is incredibly good at getting away—but after searching for the right channel and pestering and persuading the lieutenant some, ghost reluctantly agrees to let soap tag along, so long as he can make it to the cathedral on his own. and then, maybe then, he'll consider soap one of their own, at least temporarily.

obviously that's what soap wants, so soap does. he demonstrates his competence ten times over, proves he has no qualms with killing other shadows, and eventually makes it to the cathedral—all while being an unabashed flirt with ghost. he takes great joy in doing it, getting to hear the eye rolls in ghost's unimpressed replies, and see his irritation when they finally meet up.

soap does mean it, though; ever since he'd first met the man, soap knew he was going to make advances at one point or another. ghost was a tree he damn well wanted to climb. but it appears ghost has no mutual interest.

anyway, so on so forth, at some point ghost has a close call and for the first time since maybe childhood, soap does something self-sacrificial to save him after a lot of inner turmoil. thankfully, they both survive in the end, and soap realizes he has feelings going beyond a basic attraction—and learns that ghost had started feeling the same too, eventually, he'd just been reluctant to indulge since he hadn't thought soap trustworthy just yet. after all, he'd switched sides like it was nothing.

after everything is said and done, soap still operates with his selfish mindset, and still refuses to owe loyalty to others—others except for ghost, to whom he willing hands his heart; his entire being.

Fallout!AU Ghoul!Simon “Ghost” Riley x fem!reader WC: 1.2K words Note: Hi anon! I had to do a little research about how exactly ghouls and cryo-freeze functioned, sorry for getting back to you so late! (does it still functionally make sense no but shh its fine) Anyways, I hope you enjoy! (:

Ghost who was already in the process of becoming a ghoul before the Great War! Already a renowned soldier; one of which was elected for a new experimental drug. For the sake of humanity he was told, after all, doing this will guarantee a spot in the vaults for him and his precious little wife! Doesn’t he want you to be safe? Though he might not have necessarily agreed with the means, don’t the rewards outweigh the consequences? Doesn’t he want to live out the rest of his days in peace with you? For a good vault- wanting the best for you. 

These tests, these experiments.. would end up taking a toll eventually. Too late for you to ever see of course. Well, by the time the great war actually starts, it’s far too late to see the effects of it at all. The experiments required him to stay on base- very seldom ever actually seeing you. “Just a few more weeks.” You were constantly told, and of course full heartedly you’d believe him. Why would he have any reason to lie? So when the first bomb drops.. And then the next. It was no surprise when you were forced to go into a vault without your husband, so scared. All alone without him. ):  

The experiments therefore spiraled, the results becoming null, nothing necessarily coming from them- too many variables being added. And with the radiation from all the bombs well.. He was no longer a ghost but a ghoul. 

He’d be similar to ‘The Ghoul’ in the show in my opinion! Fighting his way through the wasteland, killing, maiming- adapting. Becoming the monster that was always sort of lingering beneath the skin, going back to baser instincts. Everything he did was for his vows. For you. See, I'd imagine that he would wear a power-suit at first, especially when his skin starts to sort of stretch and shrivel, like a burn— eye sockets sinking, nose concaving. If he had found you, he didn’t want you to see what he was becoming; his humanity unraveling faster than he could keep the spool pulled taut. 

Though.. the first year passes. Then the first decade. A century. Two. 

Eventually time slows to a lull; without direction nor guidance. Always sort of be bordering on turning feral, one mishap away from just totally snapping. Enough for life itself to become a constant loop of just sort of.. apathy. Life wasn’t kind enough to people like him, never allowing anything good to stay in their lives. So why would it in this hellscape as well? Going through this so-called life like it was nothing more than a hindrance. Traveling through the land, taking on dead man’s jobs; not caring for the consequences at this point. Because what really was the point without you by his side? Never forming attachments, after all, why bother? He’d outlive them anyway.

Throughout the years, settlements pop up left and right- factions forming, most dying out faster than he could blink. These days, vaults come to the surface- trying to rebuild, kind to any poor soul or raider that they come across, like sheep walking right into the maws of a wolf. Then.. a new community sprouts up. 

Groups of thousands coming up to the surface, building a town- starting a new life. It really wasn’t anything new; Ghost had seen it and experienced it before. Would be a year or two at most of having a bed, having a steady access to food and drink- the meals always tasted like ash, if he thinks hard enough he might’ve remembered how your cooking tasted. He could blink and he was back in his home, watching you sway to some music on the radio, donned in a frilly apron, and you’d turn around and he could swear he could smell what you had in your hands. His imagination always ended up the same way; his eyes would eventually lead up to where your face was; blurry and being forgotten- he’d startle back to the reality at hand, mood darkening. 

So this new community. It wasn’t really a question of whether he was to make his way there, if not to stay for a brief moment of peace then to swindle them out of some supplies. Because at the end of the day they were vaulters. Nothing in the grand scheme of things: would probably die to some raiders anyway. They were always so eager to please, to see the good in people, and they were just so welcoming and hospitable. 

And then he saw.. you. 

The dreams, his imagination- the fog seemed to clear the moment he saw you again; even from a distance.. It was just how he had remembered you- his wife. You look like you haven't aged a day, donned in a blue clad jumpsuit. Simon watches with a dry mouth as you provide a kind smile to one of the people next to you, nodding your head as the pair of you attempt to cultivate the soil. He sees the way you jolt when the man’s hand brushes over your own as if he had shocked you- and his own eyes narrow at the sight, staring unblinkingly as if he might miss something. 

A mirage, it was easy to think. A trick of the light even- the radiation boiling his brain enough to fuck with his head, to give him some twisted hope about something that should not be possible. You.. should be dead. Long gone and yet- why were you in front of him? A phantom? Another way to mock him?

The more he looked he knew it was not the case. He could hear your voice- the cadence, all sounding just as how he's remembered it for the last eon. It made him wonder however- why were you smiling? Why.. were you laughing? He wasn’t with you- so why did you seem so happy then? 

There was something about a corpse yearning for someone full of life even still; for someone who was unburdened by centuries of an unforgiving and cruel world. He felt like Icarus, wanting to get closer; to see if he would melt if he got too close to the warmth. He’d be willing to burn if it meant that you were within reach again. His left hand felt heavy as he flexed it to try and release some tension, gold band digging into his skin. And with how sweet you looked, it only made his teeth ache and fingers twitch over the handle of his gun, longing to be with only you. Would your skin be as soft as he remembered? His throat felt dry, taking a step forward, aching to herd you back to where you belonged. Would your body still sing for him, even as your husband has turned into a monster, even as the stench of death and rot seems to follow him everywhere he goes? 

Would you still remember him? ..Did that matter at this point? He’s never been one to look a gift horse in the mouth.

After all, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.

Riley going on leave for rut only to have his neighbour call up Tav because "your alpha won't shut up, come and deal with him!" It works tho since Tav expected Riley to find another omega

It's all going fine until MacTavish just freezes and just start screaming at him. He has been putting up with his BS for far too long. He drags him through the mud. Pulls out every insecurity Price didn't even know he had. Gloats that he'll never be with Price that he needs to get over it. He wasn't a good alpha no matter how much he thought he was

I also like the idea of Tav either ripping his throat out or like shooting/stabbing his arm and basically forcing his retirement

(preg Tav) they only find out a while after the fallout tho, when Shepherd tries some shit and he does rip his throat out, its not heat related and he didn't attack tav or riley so they have to investigate. A pregnant omega killing an alpha is pretty much the same

People confuse Riley for the pregnant Omega because of just how much he smells of Tav and it makes Tav irrationally happy.

alright, so I'm in the midst of making a fallout au for my COD!OC athena 'birdie' kallis alongside her partner, captain john price. therefore, I thought it would be cool to summarize this whole au a bit for y'all:

*NOTE: there's an age gap between the two with athena/birdie at age 23 and price at age 42. soooo, about 19 years age difference.

As usual, before getting into the references, I’d to give a bit of lore on these two and their relationship: 

The year is 2287, local vault dwellers John Price and Athena ‘Birdie’ Kallis have just recently gotten married to one another after a few years of being with each other. The two first met when Price had saved Birdie from being attacked by a deathclaw as she was trying to fight it off herself, from that point on the two have been living under vault 111 and have been happily married for a month now. 

However, everything goes sideways when an atomic bomb drops close by and they are taken away from one another, with Birdie being taken in to be experimented on within a cryogenic chamber. After waking up without her husband by her side, Birdie makes a plan to find her way back to her John within the world that’s turned itself into a wasteland, she also manages to find herself a dog, cal!

Meanwhile, Price wishes to do the same, wanting to get back to his beloved wife and so, he enlists the help of a local vault nearby, vault 141, in order to help get his birdie back.

Black Widow!reader is my all time favorite, the dynamics and the potential is just *chefs kiss* can’t get enough of this scenario (I could rant about it nonstop)

Mutant!reader also has potential and I’m surprised I haven’t seen anything regarding that. The scenario of the readers mutation being revealed, whether it’s on a mission and she uses her powers to save a teammate (cough*soap in that scene*cough) and the fallout of that

Or just some good ole cross dimension shenanigans where the reader is stranded in the COD universe (or vice versa with the boys somehow getting stranded in the MCU, both have potential) and gets caught up in tf141’s shenanigans while waiting for Strange or America to find her and bring her back home (but will she want to in the end??? 👀)

i love a good mcu/cod crossover! i remember one from a long time ago where the reader was a black widow and it was a ghost x reader fic i’m pretty sure?? though it could’ve been ghost x reader x soap, i just know it at least had ghost x reader. i can’t remember the author for the life of me because it was so long ago but i know they also wrote a fic where the reader was living in an abandoned town with zombies and she was on the brink of death when the 141 find her and kill the man whos about to kill her and then they operate on her?

On the topic of fandom history and the AvA fandom changing over time:

Have some trivia:

The first AvA fic on ao3 was posted in September of 2017. It’s also the only fic that lists the fandom as simply “Animator vs Animation” instead of “Animator vs Animation (Short Film 2006)” from what I could find.

The second AvA fic on ao3 was posted in October 2018, over a full year after the first one. 

As of this post (November 22, 2022), there are currently 296 AvA fanfics on ao3...and only 13 of them were posted before The Showdown aired. That’s fewer than 5%.

Those 283 post-Showdown stories were all posted within a time period of just over two years...while those original 13 were spread out over slightly more than three years. That’s a jump in averages from about 4 fics a year to about 141 fics a year, after Showdown aired. 

The first multichapter AvA fic on ao3 was orphaned and abandoned by its author, with only the first chapter having been posted. It was also the first AvA crossover fic posted to ao3, listing both Pokemon and Henry Stickmin in the fandom categories alongside AvA itself. The author wrote it as part of the Infinite Loops Project. It was also the only AvA crossover posted before Showdown aired.

Currently only 32 of the 296 listed AvA fics are crossovers. 15 of them are crossovers with Henry Stickmin. 

The Dark Lord was not tagged as a character in any of the 13 pre-Showdown fics

Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Chosen all have multiple character tags listed in the search filters, because back when many of these fics were posted, the tag-wranglers hadn’t gotten everything sorted yet. Because of this, early posters were using tags such as “The Chosen One - character” or “thesecondcoming” or “stickfigure Purple” or simply “Yellow” instead of the now commonly accepted “Green (Animator vs Animation)” or “Orange | The Second Coming (Animator vs Animation)” for example. Since then, the tag wranglers have been able to fix many of these tags so that they all link to the same categories...but not all of them. Poor Yellow is still tagged as a Pokemon character instead of as the stickfigure in 17 fics (with the most recent having been posted in December 2021), and Chosen got tagged as the Fallout character as recently as April 2022.

Fallout 141 Au Exploring the wastes has become a pastime of yours, made easier now that you can befriend the beasts of the wasteland, and especially easier after learning how to raise deathclaws. You stumble upon another vault only to find that its inhabitants have been frozen in time. Vault 240 seems to be one of the earlier military vaults, having perfected cryo stasis enough to preserve a group of soldiers from Task force 141. Piecing together what you can with the heavily redacted information around the offices you eventually figure out how to release them. Now it’s up to you to explain the new worlds situation to them, and hopefully get some good help out on the wastes.

Your mind has snapped and all you can do is follow Mahito’s orders. Yuji attempts to snap you out of it with Nobora and Megumi.

1 am thoughts but just finished the Fallout show! Solid recommendation btw holy cow even if you don’t like the games it’s so good!!

That being said. Got me thinking about 141 and a fallout!au. could always be something short and sweet involving the vaults, i.e. take the show for this example. Reader gets ‘married’ to Gaz when he comes in from another vault! Overseer Price coming for the feast, everyone so charming and well, nice! I mean they are vaulters, of course they’re good people!

So.. why is Johnny scarfing down the food like someone was going to steal the plate away from him at any second? Why is that man- Simon- wearing a mask? Is he sick? Does he not know proper vault procedures- does he want another epidemic to spread? (the winter of 2283 was very bad you know! crops died!! people starved!! why does he not care!!) Kyle on the other hand is all charming smiles, his eyes wandering around to the running water and power in awe, grin just a bit too sharp, just the perfect groom. Why is Overseer Price acting as if he owns the place?? No, this isn’t your vault!! It’s weird and very upsetting! No, it’s our marriage night- what do you mean it’s custom in your vault to for the overseer to make sure marriage is consummated? )-:
