this is a fun line. i think they play with jack's innocence in interesting ways and i appreciate that effort. i also like how this mirrors the previous episode but with higher stakes. jack is unstable and not quite so obedient as everyone wants him to be (including him, it seems), and it's driving him to extremes that he doesn't quite know how to come down from. and i'm definitely not sold on the idea that jack's soul is completely gone, unless of course they've rewritten how soullessness works yet again, so these extremes leading to rejection from people he wants the approval of is clearly hurting him. he wants so badly to justify his actions, and he naively thinks that "fixing" the messes he makes will erase the hurt caused. and that's a cool direction to take his character and embed his innocence into a more complex character. he's struggling with more nuanced perspectives and seeing everything in black or white, which is of course subconsciously reinforced by his home environment. it's not wholly innate, and it's certainly not wholly a result of his soul burning off. great, consistent character building 😊 i've been enjoying jack a lot this season

not adding it to the original post because it's a different tangent of a similar thought, of chuck's interference with jack, both before his birth and afterward... because i also have a lot of thoughts about this...
post i'm referring to is here, by scoobydoodean
but yes, i think chuck interfered wildly with jack through his whole story (and with billie to drive her to her desperate s15 plan, but that again is another completely different wild tangent of the same concept here, and i'll reserve yelling about that for later... or like... read some of my finale fix it fic i guess? lol)
ANYWAY. i think it was chuck activating the pain/fear response in jack when he was first exposed to "angel radio" in 13.01. and i don't know if i even registered that until he had a very similar response to his hallucinations of lucifer or whatever that was that hurt and scared him enough to lash out and kill mary in 14.17. because that wasn't jack's consistent, ongoing response to angel radio anywhere else in the series. that was definitely something different.
pushing and pushing to get his story, whatever it took

so on one hand i'm thrilled that sam knows hebrew. great change of pace from the ugly monolingualism previous seasons were so intent on shoehorning him into. on the other hand, i'm fascinated by the implication that sam knows enough hebrew to be able to recognize that donatello is quoting peter 5:8. unless sam has, for some reason, read a hebrew translation of the new testament and recognized it that way.
i can't tell if the writers are trying to say something about sam's linguistic prowess (doubtful given the history with this) or that they just. forgot that the new testament was not actually written in hebrew but koine greek. oh but right, sam isn't allowed to know greek so that would have thrown a wrench in those plans.
sorry this is such a mess of a scene that i can't even celebrate sam knowing hebrew.
