I had to return to this scene with a wider angle lens.
Here's the previous shot: https://nfasth.tumblr.com/post/773734823009320960
I just wanted more coverage across the top of the frame, to make the perspective a bit weirder. I like both compositions. They are incredibly similar after all. This one is just a bit more what I was going for.
The first time I saw this I was out shooting with my Fujifilm X-pro 2 and a 35 mm prime (~50 mm equiv.). This time I brought one of my work cameras (the Nikon Z8) with the 14-30 ƒ4.
In general I am way more of a fan of the primes, but sometimes the zoom lenses are better at getting the job done.
The 14-30 mm is honestly quite remarkable. It's super sharp, very light, and covers such a good focal range. I'm a big fan of both 28 mm and 35 mm lenses on the 35 mm format, and the 14-30 gives me the middle ground between the two when zoomed in to its fullest. Getting the extra reach of the 14 mm when fully zoomed out as a bonus is just so fun, and so convenient.
I'm doing another little bicycle adventure early this Summer. Not quite as big as my 17 day journey across the Westfjords of Iceland, it will at least be an 800 km ride from the Swedish town of Östersund back to my hometown of Norrköping. I will definitely be bringing the 14-30 with me on that ride. Probably on my Nikon Z7II, which is just a joy to carry what with how light and nimble it is.
