Day 2 | Trapped together in a snowstorm

The snow was falling heavier now. Ian felt the cold at his fingers. He looked at Mickey, who was barely moving. “You can’t stay out here.” “We already went over this.” Mickey’s tone was sharp. Ian glanced up at the sky as the thick snowflakes began to land. “It’s starting to snow.” “Yeah, I see that.” Ian hesitated for a moment. “What about the van?” Mickey frowned. “What van?” “The old one over there.” Ian pointed to the rusty thing in the middle of the garden. “Carl stashes his stuff in it. Better than out here.” Mickey scoffed. “You want me to sleep in some piece-of-shit van?” “You wanna freeze out here?” Ian crossed his arms. Mickey didn’t reply. The snow was coming down harder, and the wind was picking up. Finally, he stood up. “Fine. But only so you’ll stop bugging me.” “Sure.” Ian smirked. “Not like you’d ever say thank you.” “Shut up.” They trudged through the snow. Ian opened the van door. The inside was plastered with posters of Angelina Jolie, empty bottles, and crumpled chip bags. “Wow. Classy as hell.” Mickey climbed in and dropped onto the mattress. Ian chuckled. “Stop complaining.” He pushed a crate aside and sat down. Mickey glanced around at the mess, then grabbed a bag of chips. “This Carl’s stash?” “Yeah. It’s his secret supply.” Mickey opened the bag and pulled out a soda can from one of the crates. “At least he’s got good taste in chips,” he said, chewing as he stared at the posters on the ceiling. “Seriously? Angelina Jolie? She’s gotta be ancient.” Ian laughed quietly. “Back when she played Lara Croft, she wasn’t that old.” “You switching teams now, Gallagher?” Mickey shot him a smirk. Ian rolled his eyes. He grabbed a soda for himself and lay down on his stomach next to Mickey. The storm outside grew louder. The wind howled, and snow pelted the van. “Pretty bad out there,” Ian murmured. “No shit.” Mickey chewed slowly. “Could be worse.” Ian glanced over at him but stayed quiet. Mickey caught Ian looking. In the dim light, Ian could see the bruises on Mickey’s face, just starting to bloom. “You need ice for that?” Mickey shook his head and stared back at the ceiling. They didn’t say anything else. The storm raged outside, but inside it was quiet.

Fic Writers Year-End Wrap-Up

@suzy-queued tagged me on this a few days ago, but I was waiting to do it because I literally posted the ending chapter of a fic on the last day of the year.

1. How many words have you written this year? Hard to say because I posted things I had already been working on, plus I've written things I haven't posted yet, but roughly about 23k.

2. How many works did you publish this year? 62, though some were only chapters of on-going WIPs, and others are still unfinished.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? I'm proud of multiple of them, mostly because I managed to finish some WIPs, wrote a lot of drabbles, and overall wrote more than I thought I would.

4. What work of yours has the most hits? words written down (they are falling now), but I'm not sure if those were all from this year. Second place was Surprise?, also a Young Royals fic.

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected? Probably Surprise?, which was mostly a crack fic. Oh, and Fly Guy! This one was definitely a crack fic written in ten 100-word chapters, but people seemed to enjoy it!

6. Favorite title you used. It's a toss between my Gallavich Masquerade fic, which I of course can't reveal yet, and Pride, Prejudice & Video Games, (one of) my current YR WIP.

7. If you use song lyrics, which artist's songs did you pull from the most? Usually I just use songs for the titles, if anything, but occasionally I use lyrics in the fic. I don't think there were any repeats though, I only did it about 4 or 5 times.

8. Pairing you wrote the most for this year? Wilmon, for sure, 17 times. Gallavich and Madirosh came second, with only 2 fics each.

9. Favorite pairing you wrote for this year? You know what? Madirosh, actually. I need to write more of them.

10. What work was the quickest to write? All of the drabbles, especially the ones for the YR drabble challenge. I wrote several on the spot.

11. What work took you the longest to write? Come Jingle My Bells. I finally finished it after three years!

12. How many WIPs do you have in your docs for next year? 13, including 4 that I've already started posting and that are priority. The others are in various stages of writing.

13. What's your longest work of the year? words written down (they are falling now) (18,873 in total, but most of it had been posted before). Come jingle my bells is the longest one-shot (7,232).

14. What's your shortest work of the year? I literally wrote 48 drabbles lol

15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you? The four that I had already started posting and that are priority are two YR ones, Pride, Prejudice & Video Games and I think I dreamed you into life, one DRUK2 one that I've been writing for years and I hope to finish it because I actually enjoy writing it (it's very chaotic!), That's what you get (when you let your heart win), and one Galalvich fic I pretty much abandoned because I don't know how to continue it, even though I had planned it, but that I really hope to be able to conclude, even if not very well, this year, The One that Got Away

16. What's your most common "Additional Tags" tag? "Drabble", lol. Second place is "fluff".

17. Your favorite character to write this year? Wille

18. The character who gave you the most trouble writing this year? I struggled with some drabbles because I decided to write for fandoms I had never written for before. I think Charlie, from Heartstopper, is the one I agonized the most about, because I don't think I got his "voice" quite right, even if it was just a drabble.

19. What's one pairing you want to explore next year? Madirosh! They're not in my WIPs, but I'll make some room for them.

20. Which work of yours have you reread the most? I never re-read my stuff except to continue it, so probably Come jingle my bells.

21. How many kudos in total did you get this year? AO3 says 1,849, but I don't know if this counts the ones on the fics I started posting before and finished this year.

22. Which work has the most comments? words written down (they are falling now) by a landslide (67 threads)

23. Did you do any collaborative works this year? Sadly, no. It's one of the few things in fanfiction I've never done, actually! If anyone wants to collab in a Madirosh fic, let me know. Actually, Wilmon will also do, because I have a couple of AUs I have mostly just the vibes for, so I'd be totally ok with sharing it!

24. Did you write any gifts this year? Yes, "Come jingle my bells", "I think I dreamed you..." and "words written down" were both late gifts. My Heartstopper drabble was also a bit of a gift to a friend who gave me the idea for it.

25. Did you receive any gifts this year? Yes, a couple of drabbles during the YR drabble challenge.

26. What's your most common category/trope? Fluff? Also, soulmates AU, somehow. And meet-cute, apparently.

27. What do you listen to while writing? Absolutely nothing, I can't. I do sometimes listen to songs that inspire me, then I stoppe listening to them and start writing, not at teh same time.

28. Favorite work you wrote this year? Probably Surprise?, it was fun! I also really liked my Masquerade story, hihi.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year? Bold of you to assume I remember what I wrote lol. I'll go with the Ellie/A'Whora talk in "Come jingle" because I thought it was really sweet.

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year? That I managed to write this much! And that writing drabbles, as I already suspected, is a lot easier. Oh, and that I can totally write on my phone if it's in short bursts, and it's actually easier because my brain computes it as "not serious", so I can get a few hundred words out that way and use the laptop for longer spurts, for editing and posting.

12. What's their lock screen(s)?

I honestly feel like Mickey might just have the default lockscreen for whatever phone he has. I love the headcanons where Mickey is a little technology clueless or just doesn't care enough to be good with technology. It also just gives him a silly little excuse to get Ian to help him. If he has changed his lockscreen, I feel like it's something that he finds edgy, maybe something he drew? Like a little sketch of a skull or knife. I do think that his homescreen is probably a picture of Ian or them on their wedding day, and I think it's in black and white!

Ian definitely changes his lockscreen frequently, maybe even has one that changes pictures every time you activate the lockscreen. I feel like they're definitely all of him and Mickey or just Mickey. If they ended up adopting a cat/dog, they're definitely in the mix too.

18. Did Mickey give bubble baths another chance?

I think so! I think it took some coaxing on Ian's part, maybe getting them a hotel room with a tub that's bigger than the one they have at their apartment or at the Gallagher house. Maybe Ian makes a big spectacle about it because he really wants Mickey to enjoy it and take sometime to relax with him - getting a fancy bubble bath bar from LUSH or maybe even a bath bomb, setting out some ice cold beers for the two of them, playing some indie playlist on their small Bluetooth speaker, maybe giving him a bath handjob to sweeten the deal. I think Mickey def ends up liking baths with Ian, even in the tiny tub of their apartment and even without all of the extras. It's time for just him and his husband to relax together after a long day of work.

41. What's their biggest regret?

I feel like Ian really regrets not seeing Mickey in prison more, even though it's not something he could really change. He wasn't well at the time, but it still makes him feel awful that he didn't go see Mickey more often. I'm sure he probably regrets not going to Mexico, too? But I think that decision would have been really difficult for Ian. He'd miss his family SO much.

Mickey regrets not getting Ian help sooner, not listening to Ian's family when they told him that he needed to go to a clinic when he was having a downswing the first time. I think he really wishes that he was there through Ian finding the right meds to manage his bipolar.

I think as a couple they just wish they had more time together when they were growing up? I feel like they both know that it couldn't have been much different with Terry around, but there's a part of me that feels like Mickey and Ian both wish that they could have been more out in the public with each other when they were younger, going on dates and all.

1. How did you get into writing fanfiction?

I’ve always been an avid reader and as a kid I wanted to be a writer so that was the start. I’ve been reading fanfic since i was in highschool, and I’ve had many different barely started fanfics started over the years but last year was the first time I was able to actually finish anything/taken it seriously. I think it just came down to college teaching me the last bit of discipline in my creative practice

2. How many fandoms have you written in?

Just Gallavich, but I’m very confident I will write destiel in my lifetime

3. How many years have you been writing fanfiction?

I published my first fic in September of last year!

4. Do you read or write more fanfiction?

it goes back and forth, when i enter a fandom i read fanfic voraciously but now i think i write a little more, its a balance between you can write the fanfic you want to read and you can read other peoples work to experience ideas you would never think of or just a different take on a familiar topic - both are good. I’m currently slowly going through and re-reading my old fics to get them ready to print and bind and its been a super fun process

5. What is one way you’ve improved as a writer?

I hope i’ve improved a lot overall lol the main thing i always want to do well is portray the environment the way i envision it bc the worlds of my fanfics are rich and beautiful in my head so i just want to get better and better at pulling people into that

6. What’s the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

Not a ton of weird research, a lot of google maps-ing to get a better understanding of the layout of Chicago and understanding how far away states/cities are from one another (i’m american, just a weird bicoastal one)

7. What’s your favorite type of comment to receive on your work?

literally any comment, all of them are amazing and i can’t believe people read what i write and actually like it ?!? beautiful and very novel

8. What’s the most fringe trope/topic you write about?

um - i guess ABO, i was originally going to publish mine all mine anonymously bc it was very cringe inducing and still kind of is but tbh when i read it back i was like- wait this is good, even if it’s weird.

psychopomp is also a weird story, the way i thought/felt about it while writing was deeply weird and all the the themes of death and decay and devotion and consummation as an allegory for love were intended to be dark and just- weird

9. What is the hardest type of story for you to write?

Emotionally introspective fics that also really study the characters are really hard and i dont know why I keep fucking writing them - after finishing the fic im writing now i have to shift to something more plot focused

its really hard for obvious reasons but i also feel like i am an extremely logic driven person with a very particular worldview and all these characters are more emotionally driven than me. so i have to work very hard to not write behaviors from my pov and my decision making but from a studied understanding of the characters - which might be a good thing idk

um also idk if it needs to be said but brevity is not my strong suit, i should probably work on that

10. What is the easiest type?

Fluff, just cuddling and pillow talk baby i love that shit, also idk if i write smut well but it def goes the quickest for me

11. Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?

Pages app on my icloud - I write after work some days, on my lunch break and on the train ride home. Every so often ill wake up early on a weekend and be in the mood to put on my noise canceling headphones and write for hours, but thats not super often

12. What is something you’ve been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?

uhh - we’ll see. my true crime au is def one i want to write but all my ideas for the plot are just too dark rn, so well see if i can get it to lighten up a bit

He opens it to their family group chat—aptly named Gallaghers even if it included some strays—and scrolls back to yesterday before handing it to Ian.

1. How did you get into writing fanfiction?

Fell into it accidentally after finding the fandom on ao3 and reading as much as I could consume before I had to write something down. Shameless for all it's glory has so many gaps in the Gallavich story that there's a lot of room for creativity.

3. How many years have you been writing fanfiction?

One whole year as of March 24

4. Do you read or write more fanfiction?

I read a lot.

5. What is one way you’ve improved as a writer?

So so so many ways. I'm better at describing a scene and letting characters sit in angst and moments. I figured out you don't have to rush your writing to add urgency to a scene. Dialogue. All the ways 😂.

6. What’s the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

Good lord so many. ABO stuff? How to become an Airline pilot? So many Google maps things. Information on guns.

7. What’s your favorite type of comment to receive on your work?

All. of. them. Seriously there is no better feeling than getting a comment. But def when someone reacts to something - that's so fun to read even if its just an emoji or incoherent yelling. And the ones who quote lines back to me basically make my entire life.

8. What’s the most fringe trope/topic you write about?

ABO - felt weird to put it out there.

9. What is the hardest type of story for you to write?

Deep angst. Any story that I'm not implicitly feeling - I struggle to conjure creativity.

10. What is the easiest type?

Fun fast paced stories with a lot of ups and downs.

11. Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?

Bear app. Mostly when I'm out walking or running.

12. What is something you’ve been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?

A magical story - you have to create a whole universe. I'll do it one day - already putting it together in my head.

13. What made you choose your username?

It's part of my name and the ooc which stands for 'out of character' which is what I felt I was when I started to write fanfic - only to discover how in character it actually was 😂

1. How many words have you written this year? About 135,000

2. How many works did you publish this year? 6, not counting Out of Nowhere which was complete in January. (That's a 2023 story)

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? Workhouse Rock, my multi-chap prison/work camp story.

4. What work of yours has the most hits? From 2024? Workhouse Rock.

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected? A Song Only You Can Hear. I figured this AUgust series would get a few eyes on it (I know it's hard as a reader to stick with 31 days of consecutive installments). But a lot of people read it!

6. Favorite title you used. No Sleep 'Til Nashville

7. If you use song lyrics, which artist's songs did you pull from the most? I usually use song lyrics, but I got away from that in 2024. So I guess Beastie Boys is the winner.

8. Pairing you wrote the most for this year? Ian and Mickey, although I did branch out and do some Stede/Ed art from Our Flag Means Death.

9. Favorite pairing you wrote for this year? Ian and Mickey.

10. What work was the quickest to write? Coming Attraction, for the Gallavich Gift Exchange.

11. What work took you the longest to write? Workhouse Rock. It's still in progress.

18. The character who gave you the most trouble writing this year? Maybe Marco from Workhouse Rock, because I wanted to take care to write him just right. OCs are hard to make three-dimensional and interesting.

20. Which work of yours have you reread the most? From this year? Probably A Song Only You Can Hear, because I re-read the entire story every day for the whole month.

25. Did you receive any gifts this year? I received Heat of the moment from @sickness-health-all-that-shit as part of the Gallavich Gift Exchange. I also got the story fruit by GrandSelfMythology, which was a gift for @deathclassic, but I am claiming it, too.

27. What do you listen to while writing? Either nothing or classical music.

28. Favorite work you wrote this year? Workhouse Rock, but I'm also really excited about my Masquerade story.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year? The most recent lines in WR: "Please accept my care. My rebellion. My body. These are the only gifts I can offer you in here. They have to be enough. Please let them be enough."

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year? How much fun it is to write shorter works. I still love the multi-chap format, but smaller works have their place, too. I want to do more of each.

4. season 12 of shameless is suddenly happen and youve been put in charge! what plot point(s) are you gonna make happen? ok, so first, Liam living with Ian and Mickey because it makes way more sense. Obviously more of the soft and happy side of Gallavich that we all love. Lip and Tami are separated and trying to juggle co-parenting their kids, and the return of Brad.

1. How many words have you written this year? I got about 33,385 words written this year, mostly with Lost Boys and Gallavich fics, but one Communtiy Trobed work.

2. How many works did you publish this year? Four- which is much more than I posted last year lol

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)

Definitely Choose Your Last Words, I wrote the more chapters for that fic than any other work, and it was so much fun! It was a very light and easy write for the most part because I didn't have to worry as much about a heavy plot or keeping in line with canon.

4. What work of yours has the most hits?

This year, and of all time, it's Don't Forget Me, with 3,952 hits. Hmmmm, maybe I should continue working on that one...

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected? 

Weirdly enough The Best Kept Secret of Carl Gallagher- I think of it as like an average piece of writing but 32 people have bookmarked it so 🤷‍♀️
