You know the can opener bridge? I once saw an image of the old barrier from before they raised it next to the new one and the old one was deeply fucked up. I want to see it, can anyone help. Pretty sure it was in a yt video.

From the channel description:
The 11foo8 bridge is a railroad trestle over Gregson St in Durham, North Carolina and it has earned a reputation for for its rigorous enforcement of the laws of physics. No truck taller than 11 feet and 8 inches will pass under this stubborn piece of infrastructure. Period. On this channel we document the various attempts of hapless drivers trying to get past this bridge. Some try to be sneaky, some try to be quick, some try to argue, but the bridge always wins. There is a reason why the locals call it the "canopener!"
So if you're driving a truck, please let these videos be a warning not to argue with low bridges. They have the law (of physics) on their side. Just heed the warnings and drive a different route. Be safe, y'all.
(Then it links to their Patreon)
was reminded of that youtube channel that records footage of that bridge that scalps trucks today. one of the fascinating developments that's happened since i last heard about it is that, in one of their many attempts to stop the trucks from being can-opened, they installed a traffic light that detects when a vehicle that's over the allowed height is coming and turns red so the driver can stop and hopefully notice the signage all around that's screaming "YOUR VEHICLE IS OVERHEIGHT TURN AROUND" and avoid an accident. However as a result sometimes drivers see the light turning yellow and IMMEDIATELY start flooring it to avoid having to stop, ensuring that the roof of their truck just gets fucking annihilated instantly. Really beautiful stuff you should check it out
#it is pretty incredible to watch though#apparently they raised the bridge another 8 inches#which is not quite enough to save everyone#now it's the 11foot8 plus 8 bridge

The TranSource! the source of all trans.
Good to see they're shipping it out around the country. Too bad they crashed into that bridge.

I love how in Durham the 11foot8 bridge caused so much havoc over the years that eventually the city was able to raise the rail bridge by 8 inches.
Much to the delight of the people running the 11foot8 YouTube channel, it made no difference.
Truck drivers in Michigan have for years smashed into an undersized bridge called The Big Penny. Normal warning signs have not deterred drivers from wedging dozens of trucks into its hungry maw.
So they put eyes and teeth on the bridge, in part as a further deterrent.
It has not worked…

On May 11, a courier truck came cruising down Gregson St. to beat the light and ended up getting a perfect, clean roof removal from the canopener bridge. This was crash #167 since 2008.

I appreciated this video about the [in]famous low-clearance bridge, which interviewed someone from the DoT, showed changes made to reduce accidents, et cetera. It's in the documentary style, but not at the documentary length.
(If you consistently don't like videos, this is IMO not worth overriding your aversion to watch, I just quite liked it.)

I love the confidence that some of the drivers who hit the 11foot8 bridge have. did these truck drivers see a red light and a low bridge, with a sign, and think not only "I can get under that bridge" (spoiler alert: they can not) but also "I could drive through this red light at a high speed to get under that bridge"? Yes yes they did

here’s a compilation of different people driving box trucks into a low bridge over and over
#i love 11foot8+8#they could not possibly have more warning flashes and signs as an overheight truck approaches#and yet...#love how this latest person sees the warning but apparently thinks if they go really slowly they'll somehow shrink enough to pass?#humans gonna human#11foot8 bridge#Youtube

my latest new reason for living is the youtube channel 11foot8(+8), featuring videos of an 11ft 8in bridge (eventually raised 8 more inches) in north carolina that repeatedly eats the trucks of drivers dumb enough to ignore the warning signs (167 crashes since 2008, to date), while whoever runs the channel gleefully narrates the carnage. the comments are always like stupid funny:
it’s such harmless fun bc like there are warning signs. nobody ever gets hurt. their trucks just get shaved. and the more videos you watch the more absurd it gets that nobody EVER turns dlgjhdklfjgh
