April: opposing plies!

Ok so chaos gremlin that I am, I have started spinning despite not having committed to a single plan. I have 3 plans on an index card: 1) basic s & z singles plied s for knitting, 2) s z z plied s for stretchy hard wearing sock yarn, 3) s s z plied s to find out why only energizing one of the singles is the "rule". What fucked up yarn will I create and will 3 be twice as stretchy and hard wearing as 2 or will it just be a nightmare to work with?

Notes for first singles, already have a good start on my bobbin: s, flyer 2 (middle whorl on flyer), drive biggest (biggest whorl on drive wheel), accel 2 (middle whorl on accelerator wheel) (it's a spinolution queen bee). This ratio is FAST, I am spinning pretty fine :D

“Ew no he is not sunburnt ” said Paul as he leant up against Marko’s bike “oh come on that doesn’t change anything about the blood, about the good bit” Marko replied. “It’s the sunblock that makes it taste different” Paul adds The two continued to talk and make their choices for food. After a few moments they heard the other three motorcycles pull out a little bit away then a few seconds after Paul had been tackled to the ground.

“Ah! What was that for, boo” he yelled as he started to rough house with them in the sand “DAVID GAVE ME COTTON CADY” you yelled in reply “ the big cotton candy” adds Dwyane in a less than impressed.you keep tussling and rolling around on the sandbank with Paul. “Just cotton candy?” Paul says “ AND A SNOW CONE” you reply. After a few More moments of laughter and roughhousing you two are pulled apart by Dwayne “that’s enough little one” he said with a smile. You The smaller vampire was still buzzing as you sat down on the sand looking around like a Meerkat “ I can taste colour” you say looking up at David who was standing behind you looking down “oh really now” he replied “yeah” you say as lean back on his legs “you done being a little critter yet” he asked before he could get an answer you were gone. you had scaled up a tree and started to swing back and forth on a branch “wooooow I can see the whole of Santa Carla from up here” you say like a child at an amusement park for the first time. “Come on Meerkat get down we all need to feed” calls out David from under the tree “right right Proper food” you let go of the branch and land on your feet in the sand “come on then ya lazy bums” you say as you run past the boys into the camp of surfnazis the boys following suit.

After your delicious bloodbath the five of you washed off in the ocean. The boys ended up floating around for a while in the meantime you had decided to go and climb some cliffs. Still running on your sugar high you quickly found a clif you were willing to challenge and started climbing. Grabbing rock after rock as you scale the rocky wall. “Woah look at them go” yelled out Marko and pointed you out to the others. By the time they had turned around to look at you where at the top waving down at them the biggest smile plastered across your face.

After your little climbing expedition was over you all made your way back to the bikes.Unbeknown to the boys you had found a few sticks of sherbet in Marko's bike bag and downed them all at once. “Marko Marko Marko Marko” you yapped as you jumped around him in a small circle “what what what what” he yaps back his eyes following you around. “ Was that sugar or cocaine in those sticks” you ask “sugar” he Answered “ok” you say before jumping into your bike. “We are gonna be in for a long night” says Dwyane to David “yeah,but they are having fun so who cares” David replies

The drive home was faster than usual due to your sugar boost. Now usually the boys don't care about speed limits. That was more of a you thing as you were human more recently than them and knew what a nasty high speed crash could do someone.but on this particular night you had completely thrown those fears out the window. Where you gonna go at 150 over that old rusty bridge absolutely and did you love absolutely.

Once back at the cave the boys expect you to keep going. Too jump about the cave from rock ledge to rock ledge but alas they were wrong. Once you all got home they watched as you slowly and lethargically walked up to the small bedroom that they had made for you when you turned six years ago. Once inside you tuned to your records and record player picking out a vinyl that Paul had given you for your new birthday day that being the day that made your First kill and completed the process to becoming a vampire.

“What are you doing boo” asked paul as he joined you laying down in the nest bed that had been made a few months ago. “Energy low” you say as you cuddle up to his chest fiddling with the fishnet shirt he was wearing .As the sound of Bon Jovi started to softly fill the room the boys started to file in joining you in the nest eventually you fell asleep. You are in the middle David and Dwyane to your right and the two blonde bombshells to your left.

“And they crashed” said Marko as he cuddles up beside you “sugar crash” added Paul “I bet you their teeth are gonna hurt tomorrow night” said David who was laying half on the bed half on Dwyane.”Good thing I brought more toothpaste today then” slurred Dwyane as he was half asleep. One by one they all started to slip into sleep.As the soft sound of Bon Jovi’s “living on a prayer” filled the room.

Writing Notes: Using Descriptors

A common pitfall of writing is the overuse of descriptors.

When adjectives and adverbs are used too liberally, it slows down the pace of the narrative.

Example

The young, male soldier nonchalantly stood with his back against the ornately carved wooden fence and angled his head upwards towards the sky, smoking and staring distractedly at the cotton-ball like white clouds that moved westward above the city. From her place at the window two stories above, Melanie vigilantly watched him as he slowly and repeatedly brought his cigarette calmly to his lips, expelling plumes of grey smoke with each measured exhalation. She wasn’t sure why, with so many thousands of private gardens in the city, this strange, unknown, soldier had chosen her garden—with its walls of knotty rhododendrons and the rows of rose bushes, only now coming into beautiful, red bloom, that her mother had planted the year before in an attempt to bring some color into their lives—to smoke in. Her uncertainty made her scared, and she began to feel a cold fear spread throughout her body, from her terrified heart, all the way to her extremities

Compare it to this version

The soldier stood with his back against the fence, smoking and staring distractedly at the clouds that moved westward above the city. From her place at the window, Melanie watched him as he repeatedly brought his cigarette to his lips, expelling plumes of smoke with each exhalation. She wasn’t sure why this soldier had chosen her garden—one of thousands in the city—to smoke in; and, if she was being honest with herself, she was scared.

The second version is easier to read.

The idea of the paragraph is simple, but when you add an abundance of adjectives and adverbs, the result is clumsy and harder to understand.

This is how descriptors slow down the pace of the narrative.

Writing Tip

The ideal paragraph lies somewhere between these two versions.

It’s not as streamlined as the second, but not as over described as the first.

Adjectives and adverbs serve an important function, but you should be skeptical of them.

When you see them in your own writing, ask yourself whether they’re necessary.

Another Example (Written by Jack Kerouac)

Anybody who’s been to Seattle and missed Alaskan Way, the old water front, has missed the point. Here the totem-pole stores, the waters of Puget Sound washing under old piers, the dark gloomy look of ancient warehouses and pier sheds, and the most antique locomotives in America switching boxcars up and down the water front, give a hint, under the pure cloud-mopped, sparking skies of the North-west, of great country to come.

There's an abundance of adjectives, but it seems to work.

This is partly because of the periodic sentence.

The sentence can be collapsed into “Here the totem-pole stores give a hint of great country to come.”

Every other clause is subordinate (or dependent), which naturally speeds up the pace at which it's read.

This is why, in this example, adjectives don’t slow down the pace too much.

Instead, they slow you down just enough to lend a contemplative sense to the vast scene unfolding before Kerouac.

As you see, adjectives and adverbs aren’t necessarily evil words that should be avoided at all costs.

They should, however, be used judiciously.

As you edit your writing, continue to ask yourself whether each sentence really needs its descriptors.

In Summary: Be skeptical of your descriptors, and the pace of your narrative will benefit.

Going to the fair with Jack...

If there was one thing you and Jack could agree on it was the summer was the best time of year. While you loved everything about summer, the colder drinks, the warmer weather, the more relaxed Jack was at the lake house. The one thing you missed was going to the local fair.

In order to go to the fair with Jack, it would have to do with a lot of begging at first, purely because he didn't want to risk running into fans. But once you pouted ever so slightly and widened your eyes, both of you hell even Luke knew you both were going to the fair that night.

Going to the fair with Jack would include, a night time visit because with the hope of running into less kids Jack would say. It would include bumper car rides where it became a competetion between the two of you for who could bump the other more. Of course, you won but Jack would make a comment about how he let you win.

A night at the fair would be riding all the sketchy rides twice, stolen ferris wheel kisses and starring at the pretty lights. A night at the fair would include eating all the classic 'fair food' from cotton candy, to funnel cakes, to ice cream, to BBQ and more. Jack would definitely be complaining about how bad he cheated on his diet. But you would choose to ignore him until his complaining became unbearable where you would joke that next year you will just bring Luke. Your small comment causing you Jack to literally chase you around the fair for even daring to say you would bring his little brother over him "your boyfriend of almost a year."

A night at the fair would definitely include Jack spending way too much money at some random stand trying to win you the stuffed animal that happened to be your favorite animal. Finally after winning you the stuffy after what seemed like forever and $100 dollars later. Jack and you would spend even more time at the dart stand trying to pop as many balloons as you both could. Both taking turns chirping each other and laughing at how terrible you both apparently were at something that seemed so simple.

Going to the fair with Jack would be the best night of the summer. A night filled with laughs, stolen kisses and both of you radiating pure happiness and a lifetime of memories. The night would definitely end with you both exhausted coming home where you attempted to join Luke and Quinn in a movie night but fell asleep cuddled together on the floor out of pure exhaustion. Somehow neither of the brothers waking you, just throwing a blanket over you both and calling it a night themselves.

Brace yourself, this AU is basically the perfect lovechild of Miraculous and Helluva Boss but with extra chaos, extra gay panic, and extra Blitzø being a little shit.

Of course, misunderstandings and secrets are going to make y'all mad from exasperation, but stay with me, it's going to be worth it I promise!

First things first: it wouldn't be a miraculous au without a good old and nervewracking—

Love Square™:

Blitzø (Civilian) → Stolas (Civilian): Blitzø sees Stolas as this insufferable, spoiled rich kid with too much money and not enough spine. He assumes Stolas awkward stammering is just snobbish arrogance (spoiler: it's not, he's just really bad at dealing with his massive crush)

Blitzø (Civilian) → Featherbug (Hero Stolas): Blitzø is OBSESSED with Featherbug. He thinks Featherbug is the epitome of grace, charm, and pure perfection. The fact that he's secretly Stolas? Yeah, Blitzø has no idea. He would have a heart attack.

Stolas (Civilian) → Blitzø (Civilian): Poor Stolas is head over heels for Blitzø. He's charmed by and envies his fiery personality and the way he seems to defy the world. But he can't figure out why Blitzø always gives him the cold shoulder. (Stolas, sweetie, the can incident didn't help.)

Stolas (Civilian) → Catastrophe (Hero Blitzø): Stolas finds Blitzø's hero form exciting and reckless, but it's bittersweet because no one could ever compare to his Blitzy. He's happy to have him as his Best Friend and partner tho, he never had a friend before! (Also, Blitzø as a hero is 100% a flirty mess, and Stolas cannot compute, he's getting tired of rejecting him)

The rest of the Chaos:

Aka all the lore I came up with for this AU.

There are probably going to be some changes, but at the moment this feels like a good enough base.

1) Marinette was the One that left the Miraculous in Stolas and Blitzø’s world through a multiversal portal. In her universe, the fearsome The Supreme was nearly defeated but managed to escape, too weakened to be an immediate threat. Fearing he might still be working in the shadows, Marinette temporarily hid the Miraculous in a faraway place, out of reach from anyone who could use them for evil. She instructed Tikki and Plagg to reveal themselves in case of necessity.

2) The Supreme followed the Miraculous into the new universe. Although he is too weak to wield them himself, he managed to slip into the shadows and manipulate Barbie, preying on her pain and her longing to have her mother back. This makes him a silent but constant threat, waiting for the right moment to seize the most important miraculous and make a wish himself.

3) Barbie is the one misusing the miraculous of the butterfly, akumatizing people to bring her mom back. She’s just as desperate and unhinged as Gabriel, but with chaotic edgy teen vibes. (Not so different from org Gabi)

But how did she acquire such a powerful artifact??

THE SUPREME. The supreme found her at her worst, after running away from home and pried on her grief and incapability of forgiving her twin.

4) Blitzø works with his family in the circus section of the city zoo, they try to scrape by day by day. They're new in town, a year and half after the accidental fire that killed his mom and disabled him.

Blitzø had bad days where he needs to use a cane to walk ( like Adrien in the first script). Considering he's now not capable of amazing tricks, he's forced to sell nuts and cotton candy all night.

5) Andrehalphus as Chloé: Andrehalphus is here to bring ALL the petty, privileged AND RACIST drama. And speaking of drama, must be fun being homophobic and having a crush on Stolas. Good luck 🤨

Stella is also Chloé.

6) Millie and Moxxie as Alya and Nino. Also I.M.P is a band.

7) Loona is an illegitimate daughter of Blitzø's father. Her mother just passed away and CPS left her at their "doorstep". Blitzø will start taking care of her as if she were his own daughter, Cash Buckzo is incapable of taking care of anyone outside himself.

8) The Gum Incident™ from the Origin episode is now called "The Can incident"™ : Canonically happens, canonically NEVER explained. Blitzø is salty about it forever.
