Day 2 of the 100 Days Drabble Challenge I am doing. Everything will be posted here and on my Archive Of Our Own account. I would love to receive some kudos, comments or notes.
Fandom: Star Trek TOS
Pairing: Spock / Male OC
Reminder: Please keep in mind that all stories are kind of an AU, where the Vulcans are reacting more "human" than in canon Star Trek.
Days 2 Prompt: Tears
One of the consequences of their first kiss in the park was that school had become more bearable for Spock and Sirok. Of course, nobody knew about their relationship and their classmates still tormented them just as much as they had always done—but their secret love acted like a warm and soft bubble, in which nothing could harm them. One tender glance gave them enough strength to deal with any offence or humiliation that was thrown at them, at least during the school day.
In the afternoons, they would often cuddle for hours while they locked themselves up in Spock’s room to work on their homework. Even though they were only fourteen and had been together for just a month, Spock was already certain beyond any doubt that he would stay with his partner forever. He also knew that this feeling was mutual.
Nothing, literally nothing, could have lessened their happiness— or at least not until the day the biannual reports were issued. “Spock,” their teacher told them, “Academically, you have shown an outstanding performance over the past months. I have to say that I was surprised since your genetic disadvantage must be considered.
However, I must ask you to inform your father that he is required to see me about your behavior. It does not do for a Vulcan to be provoked so easily.” Spock knew better than to let his emotions show and kept his face as stony as possible.
The teacher handed out a few more reports, before she stopped in front of Sirok, “I am not going to waste a lot of words on you, Sirok. If your performance does not improve, I will not be able to keep you in my class. I remember teaching your father when he was your age and I know that he must be ashamed of his son. Maybe you should ask the half-blood to give you some extra lessons. Oh, and stop crying. You are a Vulcan boy, not a human girl.”
There were indeed a few tears rolling down Sirok’s cheek. Spock was bursting with anger. He wanted nothing more than to defend his boyfriend, who was already being verbally and physically abused at home and by their classmates, from the teacher—but he sadly knew better. He would, however, gladly give Sirok all the extra lessons he needed, so they could stay together.
That day the couple was glad when they were finally able to get out of school and away from everyone. They walked slowly and even dared to hold hands in public because both needed the comfort of their touches. Spock was not afraid of what Sarek might have to say to his report, but it terrified him to think what Sikon might do to Sirok.
“It is true what the teacher is saying,” Sirok said after a while, “I am really too much like a girl.”
Spock looked at his boyfriend very seriously and shook his head, “No, you are not. Do not even think that. You are an extremely sweet boy, but definitely a boy. You are just more vulnerable than our classmates and that is Sikon’s fault. Your father has hurt you too often and too deep.” Although Sirok listened to what Spock had to say, he stared at the ground thoughtfully, wondering if what his boyfriend said was true.
Sirok, who was smaller than Spock by about a head albeit being of the same age, stretched himself and whispered in Spock’s ear, “I love you”. It was the first time either of them had said these words out loud and it meant the world to Spock.
They eventually reached the house where Sirok lived with his father Sikon. Sirok did not have a mother anymore. T’Pera had died while giving birth to her son and Sikon had always blamed Sirok for this, even though this was entirely illogical. The boy had never experienced any love at home.
Spock followed Sirok inside the house—he would never leave his boyfriend in times like these. They found Sikon in the kitchen, where he was taking a solitary meal, “You are late,” he snapped at his son, “There is no food left. Now you can go to bed hungry.” Sirok bowed his head. This did not feel like a good start.
Spock forced himself to remain quiet for the moment, but of course, Sirok could always come over for dinner at their place. His mother loved to have guests around.
“Father, we got our biannual reports today,” Sirok eventually dared to say, while he was still not daring to take his gaze off the floor.
“Hand it over!” Sikon demanded brusquely. When Sirok followed the order, his father read through the file. The expression on the man’s face got darker with every word he read. “That,” he spat in the end, “is an embarrassment. No son of mine would ever dare to come home with such a report. I expect that even this filthy half-blood here got a better report than you. You are a disgrace, Sirok and I refuse to acknowledge you as my child any longer. But of course, you will have to be punished for your failure.” Sikon’s expression was now positively sadistic.
Tears streamed down Sirok’s face again, much worse than when the teacher had reprimanded him in school. Spock noticed that his boyfriend was trembling from fear. He moved to stand between father and son, “You will have to hit me first, then, Sikon. But if you do, remember that my father is your superior at the embassy—and he will definitely hear about this.” He did not know where he was taking his courage from, but he knew that he was not going to let this happen. He would not let anyone hurt the one he loved.
To Spock’s surprise, Sikon hesitated and then said, “You seem to be in luck today, Sirok. It would be illogical to risk my career over scum like you. Now get out of here, both of you, and get out of my sight.” The boys did not need to be told twice.
Sirok pulled himself together—they were already out of the house and back in Spock’s room before he broke down crying. It took a lot of kisses and cuddles from Spock to calm him down again. That night, for the first time in his life, Spock fell asleep holding the boy he loved in his arms.
