Usually babysitting 3 kids wouldn't be easy for the average baby sitter but luckily that wasn't the case..Y/N had been babysitting 3 kids for over 3 years after her employer took to a babysitting blog asking for assistance since he would be going on the road sometimes or needed someone willing to travel with him when the kids were able to go on the road. First appearance in the top 10 I think for my fave NYC band. An improvement in production from their 2022 full length and the inclusion of some live favorites. Post-punk with humor and fantastic live. If they're in your town go see.

7. Cartoon Darkness - Amyl and the Sniffers
This could have been higher any other year but came out later in the year so haven't listened to it as much. It is wonderful though and notches Amyl up a level, everything is better than previous albums, riffs are bigger, lyrics are funnier, Amy's delivery is sharper and more acerbic than ever. They've cemented themselves as one of the best bands around at the moment with this.

6. TANGK - Idles
One of my faves continue to push out of their punk rock roots into more experimental beats and sounds. Its an evolution from Crawler and feels like the album they wanted that one to be. Live the new stuff makes them a more well rounded tour de force.

5. Romance - Fontaines DC
Band of the year? Possibly. The ambition on this one is huge, they clearly wanted to make a mainstream rock album and did so still maintaining the credibility they'd earned from their earlier stuff. Fontaines DC are stepping into festival headline slots with this one.

4. NONAME - Jack White
If the band of the year are only in 5th we must be in to big hitters now. In my generation you dont get much bigger than the ex White Stripes frontman. Everything was perfect on this album, the surprise release, the tracks, the guerrilla club tour that followed. Its his best album since the White Stripes.

3. brat - Charli XCX
I've been a Charli stan for years, so I was so happy to see her achieve mega pop stardom this year and with her best set of tracks yet. It's rare for a pop album to have this many hits and be so cohesive from start to finish. Whenever I wanted to get ready for a night out in this past year I would put on brat.

2. Songs of a Lost World - The Cure
Band of the year, Generational Rock God, Pop Mega Star.... I suppose we have to go to actual legends next then. For a band to make this album 40 years into their career is special. It's a beautiful record and has been stuck on rotation since its release.

1. It's Sorted - Cheekface
History will judge me for this after the escalating greatness of the previous bands, but fuck it. This is an awesome album and I have played it all year non stop and never got bored of it, it introduced me to this amazing DIY, fully independent band and I just love everything about them. It's got everything I want in my bands, smart, funny lyrics, catchy melodies and they're doing it all on their own terms. Go make Cheekface your new favorite band, if they're not already.

I learned about SEO through my first business, a Singaporean dating advice site that I later wanted to take international. This is in the coaching niche. Service professionals and providers in Singapore can take away key lessons from this case study. In hindsight, it taught me lessons that go beyond SEO—it showed me that traffic isn't as important as product-market fit. However, for this SEO case study, I'll mainly focus on how I achieved SEO organic growth locally, then on an international scale.

I obsessed over the keywords "dating coach" and "dating coach Singapore" in Singapore's local search results. Eventually, I achieved page one, rank one for those keywords. The SEO traffic led to interviews on national TV and a couple of articles written for Channel News Asia. However, these keywords only added up to 20-30 searches a month. (inspite of this, I generated more than 100k of revenue in this business). In hindsight, it was quite a feat.

Using the Ahrefs free keyword generator tool I focused on a lot of dubious local SEO methods up till the pandemic came and the local market dried up. I then had the idea of making it into an international blog using SEO. Once the local market dried up,

I understood the importance of link building and hired a link building agency on Upwork that specialized in the Skyscraper method. Yes, links were coming in, but they weren’t very targeted. If I remembered correctly, I paid around 2.5k USD for two - three months of link building efforts. Yes, and $500 for a setup fee.

That’s around 10 links per month for September 2019 and October 2019, totalling 20 links. However, the links came from sites that weren’t very niche-relevant. I decided to stop working with the agency after a couple of months, as there was no noticeable improvement. In hindsight, my site might have just been in the sandbox phase.

Our Own Internal Link Building Efforts
I then took it upon myself to learn link building and studied more from SEO experts and thought leaders. I signed up for online SEO courses and started managing everything myself, from research to outreach. I hired virtual assistants on Upwork to help, and focused on building links from sites that were more relevant to my niche. For example, if my site was about dating advice, I aimed for links from dating, relationship, or men’s self-improvement websites. From December 2019 to June 2020, I focused on building links aggressively. Traffic skyrocketed, and in early 2022, the site even crashed from the surge in visitors.

As of writing this article, I have lost most of my tracking data. However, I have done my best to recover what I could and managed to retrieve these records. Traffic Growth on Google Analytics
The site generated up to 20k readers a month (and more). On Google Analytics, it showed that the site only started gaining traffic in July 2020. This meant that SEO takes more than six months to "kick in".

Our link-building efforts began as early as September 2019, but the site only started gaining significant traffic in July 2020. This is only after solid 6 to 9 months of consistent work. On the content's end, I also streamlined blog articles, combining them and making articles more solid. I also targeted lower-competition, long-tail keywords for each article. These combined strategies played a key role in driving a steady increase in traffic.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my SEO process has been one of trial, error, and persistence. Starting with a niche local site and transitioning to an international blog taught me that success in SEO is hugely reliant on high quality link building.   Read the full article

I write a lot about the things that I'm blessed to experience. and I'd love to share for whoever might relate or love it themselves.
I spoke to my about this last week. I used to get insecure when speaking up about my opinion sometimes, like I wouldn't say the right things or hurt the wrong feelings. She told me that sometimes--people forget that we're all going through the same shit. some are more scared than others, but only because the others were once just as scared too. we all move past it someday. So as it turns out, all those ppl were actually right when they said comparison is the thief of joy. we've all got things to say and do, whether independently or with ppl alongside. if it's in words, it's in the world. Why tuck it away in your own world, when nothing's as it seems even in the real world? We learn best when put into practice. So fuck it.

her and I were besties for like all of high school. but our second breakup, end of senior year, was the realest. everything and everyone was embarrassing. especially me. Lowkey depressing. Conversation hijacking up 70% - 1 in 10 email-based attacks are now business email compromise

Barracuda Networks, Inc., a trusted partner and leading provider of cloud-first security solutions, has this week published Email Threats and Trends, Vol. 1, which shows that over the last 12 months business email compromise attacks have increased to account for 10.6% of email-based social engineering. Conversation hijacking has risen by 70% since 2022, despite being a resource-intensive approach for attackers. Barracuda researchers analyzed 69 million attacks across 4.5 million mailboxes over a year. The results reveal how cybercriminals are adapting their tactics and taking advantage of the ways generative AI can help them scale their attacks, bypass traditional security measures, and target and trick potential victims. The findings show that: - Business email compromise (BEC) attacks made up more than 1 in 10 of all social engineering attacks in 2023, and the numbers show a steady increase over time. BEC attacks accounted for 8% in 2022 and 9% in 2021. - Conversation hijacking made up 0.5% of the social engineering attacks in the past year, an increase of almost 70% compared to 0.3% in 2022. Conversation hijacking attacks require a lot of effort to execute, but the payouts can be significant. - Around 1 in 20 mailboxes were targeted with QR code attacks in the last quarter of 2023. QR code attacks are difficult to detect using traditional email filtering methods. They also take victims away from corporate machines and force them to use a personal device, such as a phone or iPad, which isn't protected by corporate security software. - Gmail was the most popular free webmail service used for social engineering. In 2023, Gmail accounted for 22% of the domains used for social engineering attacks, according to Barracuda's data. Just over half the detected Gmail attacks were used for BEC attacks. - bit.ly was used in nearly 40% of social engineering attacks that include a shortened URL. URL shorteners condense the link, so the actual link of the site becomes obscured with random letters or numbers. Using this tactic can disguise the true nature and destination of the link. hello everyone! with the death of picloadr and now apparently tampermoneky too i’m very happy to say that i’ve found an alternative for both that can be used to keep a promo queue running! i hope i’ve explained everything clearly enough bellow the cut but if you have any questions for need anymore information then i’m only a dm away! PLEASE REBLOG THIS IF IT HELPS, I’M WANTING TO HELP AS MANY FOLK AS POSSIBLE WITH THIS (LASt UPDATED 3rd JAN 2022)

somethings that have come up in some of the issues i’ve helped resolve:
there sometimes can be a bit of a delay between the queue posting and the new queued post appearing, up to 10 minutes is the longest i’ve heard about so far
if the action isn’t working when first deployed try disconnecting and reconnecting a few times, if problems persist going in to edit the action and changing the trigger from any new post to new photo post can resolve the issue too
so first up! you’re going to want to be signed into tumblr on the account that has the promo blog you’re wanting to use, easy enough and i’m guessing if you’re reading this you know how to do that so no screenshot for this. you’re also going to want to post at least one and draft at least one promo on the blog to have as reference and also to trigger this whole process. once you’ve done that, that’s us done with tumblr for the moment!
now the site we’ll be using to reload our queue is called ifttt (if this then this) and it allows you to set up simple little automations for many sites and a few other things? i’m not too sure. we just need it to work with tumblr and it does!

so first things first you’re going to want to make an account, now you might be able to tell from the start for free button that there is a premium account available but luckily for us everything we want to do is achievable with a free account (unless you want to have more than 5 automations set up, but multiple accounts can do the same).

clicking on start for free brings you to this screen where you’re going to want to click at the text bellow the buttons to sign up with an email. best thing is, it works with the + trick for gmail emails.

that brings you to this screen and we’re just going to want to ignore all that and click up on the top right to skip right past it for now.

that’ll bring you to here! now it might prompt you with a popup about a trial of the premium version but you’re just going to want to dismiss that and then click up on the top right, create.

and now you click on the add button. which will bring up the screen that will let you connect ifttt to tumblr.

here, you could scroll for an age to find tumblr or just search for it. either way click on tumblr.

from the options on the screen above you’re going to want to click on this one.

which will then prompt you to connect with tumblr, now the process that follows will be very similar to anyone who used picloadr or any other tool that works with tumblr but i’ll still walk you through it.

yup! that’s all it is! just one popup where you’re going to want to allow ifitt these permissions.

okay, i lied. it wasn’t just one... but this ones easy! all you need to do is select your promo blog from the drop down menu and click update.

and that will bring you back to here! our first building block is in place, now for our then that and a process that is very similar to picloadr in a lot of ways.

which will bring you here. and now this is where we return to tumblr to get the image url of your promo graphic from the one you posted earlier.

you’re going to want to paste that url in as shown above, ie. with no curly brackets. and now back to tumblr! now we want to get the html of the post body of your promo.

again you’re going to want to ignore the curly brackets and just paste straight in overwriting everything.

now for the tags, this is pretty much explained on the page but just separate them out with commas and onto the last input

select add to queue from the drop down and then that’s us almost done setting things up!

click create action and it’ll bring you back to here.

here you can see it all set up! i’ve zoomed out to get it all on one screen but all you need to do now is click continue.

bringing you to this screen, you can keep the default title or type in your own: once you’re happy just click finish and that’s you finished on ifttt.

you’ll see this screen once it’s been published, the bit highlighted in yellow is how you can turn it off and on, once triggered you don’t need to do anything to keep it going. and up in the top right, highlighted in green is where you click to bring up the editor for the action.
and now back to tumblr, remember how i said to draft a promo post back at the start? now you’re wanting to post it! once its posted, if you’ve done all this right, you’ll spot a post in your queue! one ifttt just queued up for you!
