Shows I Watched in 2024: Ranked!

Third year now that I'm ranking all the shows I watched in 2024 for fun and as a personal rec list :) This year, I watched 21 shows in 2024.

Like past years, each show is scored out of 5 in three categories: Blorboness (how blorbable the characters are, how much they rotate in my mind), Quality (execution, narrative elements), and Enjoyability (including and especially rewatchability). The three scores are then totaled for a final score out of 15.

1. Black Sails (2014-2017) (rewatch) - 15 pts

Comment: Usually I don't include rewatches on my list because they're obviously shows I know I like and thus tend to score/rank higher automatically, but I'm making an exception for rewatches of shows that I haven't seen in years. Therefore, top spot MUST go to the KING 💪💪 greatest show of all time istg 😩😩🤌🤌

6. Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023-) - 14.5 pts

Comment: I try not to give half points in my rankings but people were way too mean about the Percy Jackson series. I feel like something both Tumblr audiences and the show writers often forgot is that the show is targeted toward a middle school age audience, which means for PJO fans online who grew up, it's not going to be a deep, perfectly-crafted psychological analysis of childhood trauma, and for the show writers, I feel like the main or only drop in quality was that they assumed that monsters were obvious and so the characters all seemed to immediately know what all the monsters were without leaving enough of the exciting mystery and suspense for middle school watchers. Besides that, though, the show was genuinely one of the best and most fun I've seen in years; I would almost give it a 15/15 anyway. (Also had like half the entire Black Sails cast/production team working on the PJO series??? I love it 😭😭😍😍)

Comment: This one snuck up on me, I wasn't expecting this one to resonate so much at this point in my life 🥲

Comment: Lost a point for quality because it still feels a bit like they don't know what to do with sexism and homophobia. They want to be progressive with racial equality without deconstructing the other highly oppressive institutions of sexism (the marriage mart, primogeniture/the baby race???) and homophobia (so is same-sex sexuality (such as with Francesca and Benedict) going to be accepted or what? Is it that they can accept interracial marriage but a same-sex one is too far? This is intrinsically tied to the institutional sexism). I'm assuming they'll answer these questions in Benedict's and Francesca's seasons so I await to see how they'll handle it.

Comment: My quality score may be controversial but Fox shooting themselves in the foot with Buddie queerbaiting and lack of follow-through in early seasons just annihilated a lot of the narrative quality not even from a shipper perspective 💀💀 Also Bucktommy breakup was so stupid I miss them 🪦🪦

Comment: Amazing how you can have an all Asian/indigenous cast while the OG had mostly white voice actors and yet NATLA was by far more whitewashed than the original because of a lack of cultural competence or cultural awareness in the writing. I love the actors and they did great under the circumstances but the writing and directing was dogshit.

☘️ summary: When on her 4th comeback's backstage Y/N is unwillingly reunited with her brother, suddenly 8 boys are swept into her and her group mates' lifes. A tall boy in particular has taken a liking to Y/N and apparently, maybe... she feels the same? 

❀ lucyd:

JYPE's new girl group. They debuted on January 31st of 2018 and have been active since then. A group that focuses mostly on its lore, their music is creative and innovative, but usually on the 'calm' side. lucyd's fandom is called "wytness". The group's members include Liu Daiyu, Jung Y/N, Yun Aili, Junyi Noa, Sugawara Moriko (aka Marte) and Choi Chinseon.

❀ Jung Y/N:

lucyd's lead vocalist and centre. She is a chaotic ball of energy around friends and when in public and with strangers, closed off and introverted. Her personality resembles Wooyoung's, but after all it makes sense, since she is his older sister. Left her home and family, cutting all ties, to pursue the idol career against her parent's wishes. Has never forgiven herself for leaving Wooyoung behind. Was saved from poverty after leaving her home thanks to her best friend, Lee Minho. Owns two cats, Latte and Orion.

❀ Moriko Sugawara (aka Marte):

lucyd's lead rapper and one of the three producers of the group. Her father is japanese but her mother is italian, so she also adopted an italian name, "Marte", using it as her stage name. Loud but introverted, she loves anime over anything else. Daiyu is her best friend. Incredibly savage and sassy, tends to be oblivious and unintentionally uncommunicative. Dresses like an emo girl.

❀ Liu Daiyu:

lucyd's leader and main dancer. Born and raised in China, she moved to Korea to achive her dream of becoming a dancer. Dancing became her passion after going through some rough patches on her life. Acts like a mother to all of the girls of the group although she herself can be childish too. Marte is her best friend. Loves hitting the gym. Believes in single girl supremacy.

❀ Junyi Noa:

lucyd's 'main' visual. Loves cats over everything else (except her girlfriend, Lee Chaeryeong, who she is madly in love with). 'Hates' all men, loves all women. Really tsundere and unresponsive with her friends (and everyone in general), flirty with girls she likes. Born and raised in China, moved to Korea as an exchange student. Her and Chinseon share the custody of a siamese cat called Kimbap. Her best friend is Shin Ryujin.

❀ Yun Aili:

lucyd's main vocalist, producer (2/3), Face of the group, and all rounder. Dedicated, hard working and a studio 'rat', never leaves the company and only works. Her mother is finnish, so her parents named her 'Aili', but her father is korean. She was born and raised in Korea and has been neighbors with Kim Seungmin since forever. They are also childhood friends because of this. Her best friend is Chinseon.

❀ Choi Chinseon:

lucyd's maknae, main rapper, 'secondary' visual, lead dancer and producer 3/3. She was born and raised in Korea. Her dream had always been songwriting. Really shy with everyone new (mostly boys), loud and annoying with friends. Nicknamed the clown of the group, she loves video games. Used to be an emo girl. Crushes on people too easily.

You mentioned that harry's confidence is sky high. Do you think he is arrogant? Because of all the praise and love I feel like he is is like that and he mentioned that about himself as well in songs.

Also, if harry gets everything he wants ( I totally agree) why can't he ask his label to help out OT4?

Finally, do you think Harry gets everything he wants because he wants fame for himself or because they want him to top the charts so they will have power over him and via him?

Something with Harry being the golden goose and just going with it and being okay with it (and getting everything he wants while pushing 1D away) doesn’t sit right with me....

I think Louis also mentioned in 2017 or 2018 that Harry wouldnt have trouble finding the best songwriters etc because he is Harry Styles.

I think he might be arrogant in his relationships with Louis, but as an artist no, i don't think he's arrogant. I think he knows he's good at what he does, but i don't think he's got an exaggerated sense of his own importance or abilities. He doesn’t think he's better than others. I think he's got some narcissistic tendencies, but he's well aware of them. He want's the attention on himself. He sees everyone, and often greets them and make them feel important. He knows he wouldn't be where he is without his crew, his managers, 1D and his fans. He's appreciative and greatful. So that's the difference for me. He can want the attention on himself and at the same time appriciate and be humble about all the help he's gotten along the way to get him the amount attention and success that he's getting.

Harry gets everything he wants if it can help him become more successful and earn the label money. Harry helping the others would be sabotaging himself in the eyes of the label. They're on different contracts and labels. They're also competitors since they have overlapping fanbases. For example; Harry wouldn't be allowed to tell Liam when the Sony artists are dropping their albums this year so Liam could avoid dropping his at the same time and have a better chance of charting or going number 1.

I think Harry is pretty well aware he is being given opportunities and stuff the other ones doesn’t have access too. Some he's worked for and some were handed to him on a silver platter. I think H deserves all the success, opportunities and acclaim he's getting as a music artist. I just don't like how Sony positioned him and favoured him in the band in a way that hurt the others chances of being successful later on. But Sony didn’t think the others would have a chance. Historically, there can only be one successful member of a boyband going solo. It is what it is i guess. We just have to be extra supportive of the other four and cheer them on, knowing they were in a disadvantage coming out of the band and had to play catch up.

Story time no one cares about

Back in 2018 i had the chance to watch toumyu live in paris. 5years later i am trying to go to tokyo see toumyu again and i'm bringing you with me on the quest to get tickets !

In order to avoid creating messes of taylor swift proportions or worse every stage that has more demand than tickets available for sure you have to enter a lottery to have the right to buy one or 2 tickets.

And then you remember you are not in japan.

Up until now, very understandable and quite clever but japan has to be japan. You have rules and prerequisites that keep foreigners out.

For every account creation , you will have to enter a japanese real adress :

-> you totally can use your tenso adress for that (it's a japanese PO box/shipping service)

You will have to fill a phone number. it needs to be japanese issued number starting 070, 080 or 090. In order to recieve the activation code via SMS you will need to have a real one.

->The easiest service for forgeigners in japan is mobal but the sim card works only in japan. If you're like you will need a friend in japan to lend you their phone number and tell you the sms they recieve whitin the proper timeframe.

for a lawson account you have to fill in in order :

your name then name again in katakana

your postal code

your prefecture and adress

phone number

gender

date of birth

And Because you are here as a fan you will pay if you really want a chance at getting tickets. There are a bunch of lotteries, first for the different premium fanclubs and then whatever remains get to the general sale or lottery.

For toumyu we will have a maximum of 7 fanclub lotteries a premium lottery and the general sale

Fanclub Lottery list :

the first fanclub lottery and the only done over is the Official site Premium Fanclub lottery that accepted entries from 2/28 12:00 to 3/6 23:59

the next one will be the pre-order bonus for the Soundtrack album of Toumyu's Kosui. The cd will contain a code and a link to the lottery site for application.

As usual no fanclub is free, generally around 500yen a month it can be higher or require to get a yearly subcription in order to be able to enter.

most fanclubs accept foreign cards no problem.

the official rules prevent fans to get several accounts on every paying service to try to get tickets but there are a lot of multi account users out there

And then if you have the luck to get through this you have the paying problem !

but to pay on lawson tickets you will have only 2 options :

the Jp credit card that is very hard to obtain

or paying in the conbini.

i will do a complete conbini payment guide later but in summary you have to send someone, in japan, pay in the family mart within 3 to 5 days of selection !

What does the American Marten look like?

The American Marten, aka the American Pine Marten (Martes americana) can be described as long slender animals that display bilateral symmetry, and have sexual dimorphism where males tend to be larger than females (Ellis, 1999). The males measure to be around 510-680 mm (with tails included) and the females are slightly smaller with a body length between 455-600 mm (with tails included) (Nature Canada, 2018; Ellis, 1999). Males weigh between 470-1300g and females weigh between 280 and 850g (Nature Canada, 2018; Ellis, 1999). They can live up to 17 years in captivity and tend to live up to 9 years in the wild (Nature Canada, 2018). In the wild, they are particularly vulnerable to wolves or owls when they are at young age, but their agility and speed helps them against these predators (Nature Canada, 2018).

Their appearance can be described as having a long shiny fur coat with a grey head, dark brown/black legs and tail, a golden brown back coat with a cream patch on their chest (Nature Canada, 2018; Ellis, 1999). Their summer coat tends to be lighter in colour and has a faded appearance (Ontario Fur Managers Federation, 2023). New fur growth begins in early fall and is completed by October in order to prepare for the harsh cold weather of winter (Ontario Fur Managers Federation, 2023)!

The American Marten has large ears, shaped similar to a cat, with large black eyes (Nature Canada, 2018). Claws are sharp, curved and semi-retractable (Nature Canada, 2018; Ellis, 1999). The Pine Marten has a slender body with short limbs and a bushy tail (GBIF, 2022). Their dental formula is as follows: I 3/3, C 2/1, P 4/4, M ½ (GBIF, 2022; Kollias & Fernandez-Moran, 2016).

Killing of Border Patrol Agent Goes in a Very Strange and Unsettling Direction

Border Patrol Agent David Maland

was killed Monday during a traffic stop in Coventry, Vermont, about 20 miles from the Derby Line - Rock Island Border Crossing. Initial details were sparse but strange. According to reports, the traffic stop led to a shootout in which Maland and a "German national in the country on what the FBI called a current visa was killed, and an injured suspect was taken into custody and is being treated at a local hospital." The incident was a bit out of the ordinary. One doesn't think of rural Vermont as a place where shootouts occur with federal agents and on the risk spectrum of "aliens likely to be shooters," Germans are somewhere over to the far lefthand side.

The German was Felix Bauckholt.

Bauckholt's still live LinkedIn profile says he worked in the New York office of Tower Research Capital, the high frequency trading firm. Tower Research didn't respond to a request to comment on Bauckholt's recent employment status, but the alleged expiry of his visa suggests he may no longer have been working there.  Tower Research Capital is a high frequency market maker and prop trading firm that operates high speed trading strategies. US government data suggests that two people at Tower Research have had H1B visas renewed this year: a head of data on a base salary of $350k and a quant trader on a base salary of $165k. It has 1,200 employees in total.  Bauckholt's LinkedIn profile says he joined Tower in October 2021 after two years at Radix Trading. He also completed a Jane Street internship in 2018. Jane Street interns now earn around $20k a month. Bauckholt graduated from Canada's university of Waterloo with a bachelor's in mathematics. In 2014 and 2015 he appears to have won gold and bronze prizes respectively in the International Mathematics Olympiad. 

He was accompanied by a 21-year-old woman named Teresa Youngblut. She was wounded in the shootout and was charged on Friday with complicity in the killing.

The FBI arrest affidavit is where it starts to get weird.

On Tuesday, January 14, an employee of a hotel in Lyndonville, Vermont, contacted law enforcement when Bauckholt and Youngblut checked in. What drew attention was that they acted strange, and "they appeared to be dressed in all-black tactical style clothing with protective equipment, with the woman, later identified as Youngblut, carrying an apparent firearm in an exposed-carry holster."

Based on that encounter, Vermont State Police and Homeland Security Investigations personnel tried to initiate a “consensual conversation,” but neither wanted to go along with that ploy. They told the police they were in the area looking for land to buy.

The encounter was sufficiently out of the ordinary to draw surveillance because on Sunday, January 19, they were spotted walking in Newport, VT, and Youngblut was packing.

The document said law enforcement personnel had earlier been surveilling the pair between 11:30 a.m. and 2:35 pm at a Walmart in Newport, Vt. “They observed Baukholt enter the Wal-Mart at approximately 1 :00 pm and came out with what was later confirmed by Wal-Mart employees to be two packages of aluminum foil,” the affidavit said. The document said Youngblut stayed in the Prius in the driver’s seat while Baukholt entered the store, and that when “Baukholt returned to the vehicle, he was seen removing sheets of foil and wrapping unidentifiable objects while seated in the passenger seat,” and he was also seen making at least one phone call.

This is how the shootout unfolded.

"On January 20, 2025, at approximately 3:00 pm, an on-duty, uniformed United States Border Patrol (USBP) Agent initiated a stop of a blue 2015 Toyota Prius Hatchback with [a] North Carolina license plate... to conduct an immigration inspection as it was driving southbound on Interstate 91 in Coventry, Vermont," read an FBI criminal complaint obtained by Fox News.  "The registered owner of the vehicle, Felix Baukholt, a citizen of Germany, appeared to have an expired visa in a Department of Homeland Security database. Youngblut was driving the Prius, and Baukholt was the lone passenger in the Prius," it continued.   "Between approximately 3:00 pm and 3:15 pm, agents reported gunshots at the scene," the affidavit said. "Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Cameron Thompson was notified of the incident and responded to the scene of the stop, arriving at approximately 3:35 pm. He spoke with two of the Border Patrol Agents involved in the incident. They described that both Baukholt and Youngblut possessed firearms and that Youngblut drew and fired a handgun toward at least one of the uniformed Border Patrol Agents without warning when outside the driver's side of the Prius."  "Baukholt then attempted to draw a firearm. At least one Border Patrol Agent fired at Youngblut and Baukholt with his service weapon," the affidavit also said. "The exchange of gunfire resulted in Border Patrol Agent Maland, Youngblut, and Baukholt all sustaining gunshot wounds. Baukholt was declared deceased at the scene as a result of his injuries."  Maland also died after being taken to a local hospital for emergency care, while Youngblut is currently receiving care at a facility in New Hampshire, according to the affidavit. 

The "immigration stop" took place while the vehicle was headed away from the Canadian border, so it is starting to look like a pretext as several Border Patrol agents were involved. 

According to the affidavit, agents had secured a .40-caliber Glock 23 “on or near” Youngblut after the shootout, while a .380-caliber M&P Shield firearm was secured “on or near Baukholt after the incident.” The affidavit said the evidence is “consistent with Youngblut having fired the .40-caliber Glock 23 at least twice from the driver’s side of the Prius, one or more Border Patrol Agents returning fire with at least seven 9-millimeter shots, and then agents clearing the Glock 23 40-caliber and M&P Shield .380-caliber pistols, resulting in the described casings and cartridges being on the ground.”

The inventory from the affidavit indicates that Youngblut fired at least two times, but there is no evidence that Baulkholt fired.

After the shootout, agents recovered a bewildering array of stuff.

After the fatal shooting, authorities seized a number of items from the Prius, including a ballistic helmet; a night-vision-goggle monocular device; a tactical belt with holster; a magazine loaded with cartridges; two full-face respirators; 48 rounds of .380-caliber jacketed, hollow-point ammunition; a package of shooting range targets, some already used; two handheld two-way radios; about a dozen electronic devices and multiple electronic storage devices; documents containing identification, utility, lease, travel, and lodging information related to several states; and “an apparent journal” found with Youngblut’s identification papers, the affidavit said.

What does it all mean? 

It seems that Youngblut was the leader of the two. She had the real gun, and she initiated the firefight. I'm sure her being from Washington is not related, but when you hear "all-black tactical style clothing with protective equipment" in connection with that state, it is hard not to think of Antifa. How did Baulkholt get sucked into the plot? The guy was a math genius earning a boatload of money until it seems he got fired and his visa was suspended. 

If one were looking for a plausible scenario, it would be that the pair planned some sort of one-way mission against the Border Patrol station to make an anti-Trump statement, but your guess is as good as mine.

YEMLİHA GÖKTAŞ KİMDİR?

19 Mayıs 1995 yılında Kahramanmaraş’ın Çağlayancerit İlçesi’nde doğdu. İlk ve Ortaokul öğrenimini Çağlayancerit’te tamamlayan Göktaş, Lise öğrenimini ise Osmaniye Düziçi Anadolu Öğretmen Lisesi’nde tamamladı. 2017 yılında İstanbul Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi’nden mezun olduktan sonra İstanbul Barosu’nda avukatlık stajına başladı.

2018 yılının Kasım ayında avukatlık stajını tamamladı. 1 yıl boyunca İstanbul Barosuna kayıtlı serbest avukat olarak çalıştıktan sonra 2019 yılı Kasım ayından itibaren Kahramanmaraş’ta serbest avukat olarak çalışmaya başladı. Orta seviyede İngilizce bilmektedir. Evli ve iki çocuk babasıdır.

Söz konusu plan değişiklikleri, Şehir Plancıları ve Mimarlar Odası İzmir Şubesi tarafından yapılan itirazların reddedilmesi sonrası tekrar tartışma konusu oldu. Komisyonlar, yapılan değişikliklerin uygun olduğunu belirtti ve oybirliği ile Şehir Plancıları Odası’nın talebini uygun bulmadı. 2025 Yılındaki Toplantının Önemi 13 Ocak 2025’te gerçekleşecek meclis toplantısı, bu tartışmalı plan değişikliklerinin ve bölgede uygulanacak projelerin geleceğini şekillendirecek. Özellikle bölgenin konut alanı olarak geliştirilmesine yönelik belediyenin aldığı kararların ve odaların yaptığı eleştirilerin masaya yatırılması bekleniyor. Kamuoyu ve Hukuki Süreç Şehir Plancıları ve Mimarlar Odası, daha önceki süreçlerde olduğu gibi, bu plan değişikliğini de yargıya taşıma sinyali verdi. Yeni bir iptal kararı çıkıp çıkmayacağı belirsizliğini korurken, bölge sakinleri ve ilgili meslek örgütleri, kamu yararını gözeten bir kararın alınması gerektiğini vurguluyor. Bu tür plan değişiklikleri, yalnızca imar alanındaki teknik tartışmalardan ibaret değil, aynı zamanda sosyal, çevresel ve ekonomik etkileri de göz önünde bulundurularak değerlendirilmelidir. Cuando estamos consientes -seamos cristianos o no- muchas veces no entendemos pero ni el español, nos dicen " haz esto" y pareciera que no oímos ni entendimos, otras veces nos dicen " no vayas a hacer aquello" y parece que nos pagan para hacerlo, nuestra mente es muy complicada, por eso Pablo nos aconseja y nos dice "renueva tu mente!", pero entendamos o no Dios en su inmensa sabiduría y misericordia nos entiende perfectamente tanto como una madre entiende el lenguaje de su recien nacido cuando pide o necesita algo, no te preocupes como pedir porque en tus momentos más angustiosos Dios entenderá el lenguaje de tu espíritu y te concederá los anhelos de tu corazón, que tengas un gran martes y que Dios bendiga tu vida y tu casa...
