"Well usually it isn't an issue." Charlie generally picked at food through the work day, and gave her free meals to her brother's. There wasn't much use for fresh anything in their household, the fridge housing little more than beer and frozen microwavable snacks. In fact, most of their cupboards were studied with quick grab and go things as well. With Charlie usually at the diner, their little apartment kitchen saw surprisingly few meals cooked in it despite Charlie's predilection towards cooking.

The influx of cacophony with his opening of the for almost had her pulse cooking her completely, cheeks filling with embarrassed color even as the rest of her face paled. Two blocks. It sounded so close, so ridiculous to be scared to go such a short distance. Ridiculous, and yet here she was, choked with abject terror.

"I-.... I don't know if I can." Code strained she loved at him with shameful apology written all over her face. It'd been at least five years since she stepped foot outside of The Wexleys doors without Jeremiah. "I want to... I just..."

Having just moved here a month ago, Ashton himself was still getting used to the hustle and bustle of the city, oftentimes being way too loud for him. Neither did he know many people yet, with the college term starting in another month to go. He had mostly spent the breathing time between leaving the marines and starting his PhD just by well... living. His mom told him it'll be good to settle in, take a break, make friends, rest and relax. Well, he does not feel relaxed, nor is he going to go around randomly making friends. Charlie and Jeremiah so far were the only people he's properly gotten acquainted with so far. Nice people, floor neighbors. Don't pry too much. Seemed like a good start to his residency at the Wexley.

He had been working out his schedule in preparation to study full time, something he hasn't done before so he's been meticulous about it, fixing his grocery trip bi-weekly. But this time, he found himself heading out on his trip with Charlie after a chat with her older brother. "So much, you don't even know," he simply replied as they walked through the lobby, "how would you guys even have enough for dinner from just the convenient store?" He initially walked ahead with fast, rigid strides, unaware for just how hesitant Charlie was being until he paused by the front door, looking back to her behind him. "You alright?"

Glancing back out at the busy streets, Ashton had forced himself to desensitize to the noise of New York over the month, not wanting to have the same episode happen again, not like he'd had a Jeremiah saving his ass every time he's out there. But Charlie seemed more terrified than ever, despite having been in New York all her life. Strange. "The grocery store is just two blocks away, it won't be too far, c'mon," Ashton pulled open the door, and the cool air rushed in and noise polluted the quiet lobby, he waited for her patiently, deciding to extend a hand to her.

i love u hockey nepotism <3

i just think hockey connections are neat and the hughes have a lot. so here's a noncomphrehensive review of their connections (as it relates to their teams) through their dad jim. and this also kinda doubles as a background about him.

so jim hughes grew up on long island and has many ties to the area, hence the “comin home” comment from luke during jack’s draft and jack’s walk up song being “i’m coming home”. 

currently jim is a director of player development at CAA hockey (2016-) and previously was the director of player development for the leafs (2009-15). he also has 20 years of coaching experience which has brought him to new jersey, orlando, boston, new hampshire, and toronto. but before all this, he played hockey at providence college (1985-89) which is where he overlapped with tom fitzgerald, current president of hockey operations and gm of the devils, for two years. if you were ever curious why jim and ellen were seated next to the gm of jack and luke’s team at brady tkachuk’s wedding, now you know.

in fact, jim was a huge factor in why fitzgerald attended providence as jim hosted him for his recruiting trip. during jim’s time at providence, he was represented by ray shero who was the gm for the devils from 2015-20.

while jim was an assistant coach with the orlando sun bears (1999-2001), he became acquainted with head coach peter horachek who was a scout for the devils in 2019 and is currently an assistant coach for them.

after orlando jim had been named as an assistant coach for the bruins (2001-03) and that’s where he met, then head coach, robbie ftorek, who became a close family friend. following his tenure with boston he went to new hampshire where he was assistant coach for the manchester monarchs (2003-05) under previous canucks’ head coach bruce boudreau. when jim became head coach (2005-06), his assistant coach was derek clancy who is currently an assistant gm for the leafs and previously was one for the canucks.

then settled in toronto as an assistant coach for the marlies, then as director of player development for the leafs. here jim and the boys got to know leafs legend willy nylander.

I hate the assumption that AMC made Armand a muslim as diversity points and also are going to turn him into a mustache twirling caricature when Assad Zaman was raised muslim himself (https://href.li/?https://lovelondonloveculture.com/2019/03/06/interview-with-assad-zaman/). Do people genuinely believe that A) the change of religion had literally nothing to do with the background of the actor portraying Armand and that B) Assad as a brown muslim man is going to sign on to this show and be so enthusiastic about it while thinking nothing about how religion impacts the character's story/how they will be perceived by the audience and is perfectly content with playing into a stereotype? Why are people approaching this assuming that it's going to be a complete fuck up and add nothing when an actor is portraying a character that holds their own marginalized identity?

I firmly believe that Rolin chose Assad very consciously and ... wisely. He not only brings the background for this change from the books, but also the personal experience and... lets call it stance, to do it properly? And I, personally, love this change. And I think they will be able to put a very interesting spin on things with it.

The later books have very intimate... relations to the divine. Freeing the narrative of the shackles of catholic faith (only) can, if done properly, only enhance it all, and there are a few interesting ways to juxtapose things, too.

The change will add a lot - it already has added a lot, I'd argue.

I haven't seen much of the negative takes on this tbh, but I for one welcome it and am very much looking forward to what they'll do with it.

Ended up a touch Aeryn-heavy this year, though Generic WoL, various NPCs, the other OCs, forays in the FC's AUs, and some supporting family cast members make appearances. There's even a callback to a previous FFXIV Write entry. Lots of Endwalker and Dawntrail due to recency bias, but it manages to span the spectrum from backstories through various expansions.

I only did 1 Free Day, due to having 2 solid ideas I ended up writing for that prompt. It was right at the end of my annual birthday vacation week, so I was pretty rested (may also be why they're among the longer entries!). Unusually, the rest of that week's works are not any longer than the others.

I'm also still working on some original writing, though, so that did cut into fanfiction time.

Total: 20,382 words. Not my shortest but far from my longest. Comparing with the previous years, I can see a clear improvement in my grasp of both NPC and OC voices, and more confidence in general.

Even so, "Butte", "Sally", "Bar", and "Zip" were the hardest for me this year, and I may need to warm up to them. I love "Halcyon" for a lot of reasons, and am also fond of the lighter offerings in "Duel" and "On Cloud Nine." I like a lot of the others, particularly when trying to get into NPC heads (even if they're really weird places to be ffs, Zenos).

Not too many shippy entries this year, one of them for one of the AUs, one mostly talking about it rather than seeing it, but I like "Hackneyed" a lot as it's been awhile since I've written about Aeryn & Thancred's literary tastes (and opposite ways of treating their books).

These will eventually be revised and added to Ao3, and then we await next year!

–Lily hasn't had many relationships, but she is quite experienced with both girls and guys! She had many affairs, but little true love.

🧊–MINATOZAKI SANA¡! ✥

—Lily's first serious addiction, literally her first love, they started dating in 2013, when Lily was still in SM ENTERTAINMENT and God, she was only 14, and Sana was 17. Their relationship lasted three years, Lily grew up with Sana, she so grateful! they are very good and close friends now. They broke up because they both grew out of this relationship, but they are on excellent terms!

Relationship with Sana now: Very close friends, they are seen together at awards and any shows, they record TikTok videos together and broadcast!

🧊– CHOI SEUNGCHEOL¡! ✥

–They met on the set of an advertisement, then Seungcheol himself came up to meet Lily, they were very nice to each other! they talked for a very long time before starting a relationship, it was so comfortable and good. Seungcheol always supported Lily, when SKZ debuted, he tried to help with promotion. Lily is very grateful to him. We broke up due to misunderstandings and several major quarrels.

Relationship with Seungcheol now: Now they don’t communicate, but at awards or events they quietly glance at each other, which only they notice and know. Lily does not want to restore their communication, because she thinks that she does not need it.

🧊–KIM NAMJOON¡! ✥

–He took Lily when she was sick, it was a healing relationship for her, not that she loved deeply, but she definitely did! They were introduced by Tenshi back in 2015, but their relationship began only at the end of 2019. It was a very calm relationship, where Namjoon held the main position. They broke up due to difficulties in the perception of both sides.

Relationship with Namjoon now: They communicate! perhaps not so often, but it’s very good that when Lily and Tenshi eat together, Jungkook and Namjoon will definitely join them. Quite easy and good communication. When Tenshi and Lily went to see off BTS to the army, Lily and Namjoon said goodbye very warmly.
