While Krone doesn’t reveal to the children the extensive self-defense training she went through at HQ that’s further elaborated on in the second light novel, Isabella proves how capable she is when she easily throws off Ray’s and Emma’s respective attempts to subdue her before making a calculated, clean break of Emma’s leg, so by then any plans to attack her directly without impeding her senses or mental capabilities are out.
(Chapter 16)
But even before then, they know Isabella disappears every day around the same time to report to Grace Field headquarters. If she doesn’t, HQ will know something is up, so that narrows the time frame for when they could neutralize her with other means without alerting them. This is without getting into how Isabella is almost constantly attending to the nearly thirty other children in her charge who aren’t in on the plan, nine of whom are under three years old, so they wouldn’t want to attempt anything in front of those siblings either. They probably wouldn't react well to it, and they don't want to traumatize them further than they already will be upon learning the reality of the house.
(Chapter 24)
Finally, Ray won’t go along with any plan that attempts to permanently incapacitate Isabella. He wants Emma and Norman to remain at the house until his twelfth birthday because he's banking on his shipment being the next one after Conny. He’s still fully convinced at this point escape is only possible for four kids at most, and he’s not willing to jeopardize Emma and Norman’s future on anything so uncertain. All factions in this conflict have incentives to maintain an air of normalcy for as long as possible to keep HQ from stepping in.
If Ray and Norman couldn't kill Isabella because the alarm would go off when her heart stopped, why didn't they take her eyes off with a knife ? Or Krone. Maybe Krone and Isabella had been trained in this, but that gave them time to tie the two together. I really ask honestly. Maybe they think it isn't worth
#the meta reason is them staying pure/“white” per Shirai in the exhibition interview#that's why Ray doesn't shoot Andrew and why Peter kills himself instead of any of the kids shooting him#(shoutout to salsae's fic 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳‚ where Emma does shoot him to stop him from killing Chris)#them gouging eyes out would be hardcore shit tho#Emma cuts her ear off yeah but it's offscreen and it's easier to hide/“forget” about#both in how she can cover it up with her hair and how any hearing impediments that result from it never come up in canon#you could argue they would do this offscreen too but that's still pretty brutal person-on-person violence for kids to be initiating#as opposed to Emma's self-inflicted injury#Long Post#FSS Chatter#Introduction Arc#Escape Arc#TPN S1#TPN 009#TPN 016#TPN 024#Isabella#Norman#Ray#Emma#Full Score Trio#questiontocertaintyofreality

I recently found out that the entire English dub of the 2001 Cyborg 009 series (INCLUDING the one with the goofy subs) got taken down from YouTube by Ishinomori Pro due to copyright. They've decided, "Alright that's enough cyborgs for everyone" and took them down even after like... 3-4 years I think? Impressive.
Not all is lost (Well... Except the badly subbed 009, unsure if anyone saved that...), as the entire series can also be watched on the Internet Archive (And yes, several 🏴☠️ sites as well, the obvious). These are ripped from the Blu-Ray, and contains BOTH Japanese and English audio. (I'm not exactly a fan of the interlacing, but... Better than nothing, right?)
You can watch here :>
Rest in peace to one of my all-time favourite caps that became an inside joke between friends.
(I DID save the entire YT playlist for the English dub before the takedown and still have it, but idk if I wanna reupload as that's risky. Did not save the bad subbed one, sadly.)
EDIT: If you're ethical and prefer to watch legally, RetroCrush still has the dub and subbed version available.

@naehja late but according to the timeline in the mystic code book, Legravalima doesn't kill her father until 200 years after the promise:
I also think it's possible there were other children as intelligent as Norman, either in the same or different ways, but in the past they might not have had the means necessary to measure and qualify it, potentially serving as further commentary on how arbitrary and limiting the system is for only assessing a part of a child's capabilities and not their full worth as a human being, like how Emma treasures all the kids as her family.
Emma receiving a music box and Ray receiving a pocket watch was mentioned in the first chapter of the book:
(Questionnaire Translation Source)
I like to believe Norman and Ray put the music box back together for her so she could enjoy it for a bit longer while she was at Grace Field.
For the queen who killed her father, it's in one of her flash back
but you were right, it wasn't the king who was with Julius, but it's not clear of "when" it happened.
I thougth that it was just after the promise because she doesn't seems to be the kind of demon who make compromises (even her brother Leuvis is more easy to talk with and it's already a lot)
I'm actually surprised that she waited 1000 years to try to take a genious kid from The One. I don't think that Norman was the only one genious in 1000 years \_(:/)_/ I know that genious are kinda rares but in 1000 years, there had s had a lot of children, some must have been very smart. maybe because now they were more equiped to detect kids like Norman?
Also for Ray's watch, i think i read it in a interview where people asked if Isabella had given gifts to the other children, like she did for Conny, and the answer were yes and that Ray had had a pocket watch and Emma a music box. But sorry i can't find again the link of the interview =(
Ah, you're completely right. Looking back, that's from ch152 and something I clearly had no memory of until now.. oops. It's that flashback of Julius from ch142 that threw me off since he mentions making the deal with the queen, so I thought the demon he faced in those panels was just a younger version of Legravalima, not her father.
Pfftt, Legravalima is definitely the most selfish out of that entire family. Emma was brave enough to try and reason with Leuvis back at Goldy Pond, can you imagine if she had the chance to talk-no-jutsu the queen? It would be the shortest conversation ever. Leuvis entertained Emma's ideas because she brought back some excitement into his life and wanted a thrilling hunt; the queen would straight up just eat her with no questions asked.
It is kinda hard to believe that during all those 1,000 years that no other child managed to reach the level of intelligence that Norman had. I would think that maybe the royals weren't aware of such premium quality meat since they're always offered up to the demon god instead, but there are so many children born each year in order to keep up with the hungry demands of the demon society and Norman is the highest grade ever? Crazy. (Isabella raised him well.)
Ohh, I vaguely remember hearing about Emma getting a music box too.. kinda bummed we never saw it in the manga/anime. It's alright that you can't find the interview! Isabella giving gifts to her children is believable enough.
#assuming it was small enough‚ I like playing around with the headcanon that she took it with her in the escape#same for everyone else if their sixth birthday gift was of a similar size#also I'm a fake fan but I'm blanking if we ever see Ray with his watch post-escape#since it didn't show it as one of the items he used to make the deactivator in Ch28#wish alongside all the kids data like their favorite foods in the mystic code book it listed the gifts the GF kids received from Isabella#we know whatever Norman's was it burned up in the house since all he took in his suitcase were the cups </3#Long Post#FSS Chatter#Mystic Code Book#TPN Timeline#Pre-Canon#Introduction Arc#TPN 009#Escape Arc#TPN 029#TPN 142#TPN 152#Legravalima#Isabella#Emma#Ray#Norman#Full Score Trio#Leuvis#the promised queueland

Fallout: 009
So, I've had this CRAZY idea knocking around in my head for years to make a crossover/AU of Fallout (in particular, 4) and because this anime has been my eternal brainrot since the early 2000's, Cyborg 009. I mean hey, if the Institute can have functional teleportation then I can throw in superpowered cyborg soldiers for funsies. This draws inspiration from multiple incarnations of the series with more emphasis placed on the 2001 “Cyborg Soldier” anime, so this is more of a retelling of that using the location and lore of FO4's Commonwealth. Also, I might have cranked up the “tragic backstory” for some of them up to 11. Things.. snowballed a little. okay maybe a lot actually, I'm so sorry to 001 in particular They are flawed, but they are still human, and they're attempting to make the best of an incredibly shit situation.
I meant for this to be an askblog-type thing that never went anywhere because I couldn't find the inspiration for art, but at this point I feel I have a metric ton of written material (the main profile document for the 00-Cyborgs, Dr. Gilmore, and the Dolphin is 25 pages long and technically still unfinished). I'm going to continue to spiff up and infodump to this sideblog, but if any y'all have a question about something you're more than welcome to ask it!
(special thanks to @gghoulishh for helping me hash out so many details! I should have started posting this years ago tbh)
Mini-profiles for the main cast below the cut:
001 Ivan Wisky
Son of pre-war Black Ghost cyberneticist Dr. Gamo Wisky, 001 is a telepathic and telekinetic psyker, the stressful process of becoming a cyborg having “unlocked” Ivan’s brain and these new abilities. Super-intelligence was the original goal, but Black Ghost was extremely pleased with this unforeseen outcome. Dr. Wisky had offered his own newborn son as a test subject but didn’t do it out of any particular love for the dying child; the only reason was because Dr. Wisky was being blamed for multiple failures on the Cyborg Soldier project and would have likely been killed for it. Despite appearances, he is a tactician on par with 008.
002 Jet Link
Having been tricked into getting into a vehicle with Black Ghost agents inside, Jet was taken for the Cyborg Soldier project right off the streets of New York. He's one of the most shell-shocked out of the original generation of 00-Cyborgs; having the living, breathing city of New York fresh in his memory as if it was only just moments ago. He’s unable to believe his home, his country, has been reduced to an irradiated and dilapidated ruin. However, this new wastelander life still feels like being back in his old gang; fighting for survival every day with a group of united people, just with the ability to fly at high speeds with rocket legs.
003 Francois Arnoul
Extremely perceptive to others even before being remodeled, Francois now has the ability to detect life through walls and at great distances through audio cues and x-ray vision. Due to her sound-based abilities she is also an excellent mimic and ventriloquist, and can store then use any animal or creature roar she hears to incite fear and confusion. A pre-war French-Canadian citizen, her brother was the last person to see her during her kidnapping, though now she has no family but the Cyborgs. The dissonance of the present time to her memories of a simpler time causes her great distress, but Francois has become a master of bottling her emotions to not worry her team.
004 Albert Heinrich
More machine than man, some mistake Albert for a prototype android with his assortment of mechanical parts and very little actual flesh left. Legally blind due to how the sensor implants in his eyes didn't take too well, but he can still see with them. He was taken by Black Ghost agents after a routine flight home with his fiance went horribly awry, leaving her dead and Albert dying. Black Ghost agents found him in the wreckage and turned him into a walking arsenal. The knowledge that he shares more in common with a robobrain than his original humanity weighs heavily on him.
005 “Junior”
For those who don’t know him, many take Junior’s silence as a sign of your average Super Mutant’s below average intelligence. But somehow in the process of FEV mutation he kept his sanity, intelligence, and his humanity; unfortunately he does not remember anything about his past after the process was complete. Black Ghost, ever willing to push the envelope, modified an already strong being into an unstoppable force. Despite this, Junior is a literal gentle giant as many of the wasteland’s non-monstrous wildlife will approach him and even relax in his presence.
006 Chang Chanku
A short man, but one who could probably wrestle a potential meal into submission if he wasn’t already a walking flamethrower. Before Black Ghost took him, Chang was a Brahmin farmer and an excellent cook; he still is due to his newfound control over fire. Being a Chinese descendant of those interred in camps before the Great War, one would think that Chang needs to watch his back in the country that his ancestors once tried to invade. But the idea of “Chinese” and “American” burned in nuclear fire generations ago, and all but the most devoted to history have long since forgotten. Now, everyone is united under one banner: as survivors.
007 “Great Britain”
A pre-War actor gone ghoul, GB has seen the world gone to hell in a handbasket firsthand but that doesn't seem to have effected his cheerful demeanor. Or he just doesn't see the point in caring about it anymore. His love is still the theater life he made his career in before the Great War stole it away, particularly Shakespeare's works. His augmentation is a highly experimental, highly top secret one involving the use of nanomachine technology gained from a crashed alien mothership. This gives him active camouflage and allows him to morph his body into almost any desired shape and back using a button on his stomach that resembles a hernia. With 003 supplying sound effects they make a terrifyingly convincing combination.
008 Pyunma
The only one with real combat experience before becoming a cyborg soldier, Pyunma was once the leader of an infamous local raider group before being kidnapped by Black Ghost. As the field tactician of the group he knows how to fight, and the dirtiest ways to fight, though the team prefers to not come to that. His specialty is water combat and he is able to breathe underwater, though as the highly irradiated waters in and around Boston are a danger to what's left of his organics he has extremely high radiation resistance to compensate.
009 Joe Shimamura
The golden child and final member of the 00-Cyborg prototypes. Before Joe was taken by Black Ghost he was in the courier service, his natural speed and endurance doing him well in the dangerous expanse of the wastes. An orphan, Joe was raised by the owner of a courier service in his village and he was found to be a natural born runner. Now even that has been upgraded past the limits of the human body, which would make him one hell of a courier if Joe could go back to his old job. But his ties are with his new "family" now, having become a reluctant member of the rebel 00-Cyborgs who are now trying to right the wrongs of their creators as well as survive in an unforgiving wasteland.
Dr. Issac Gilmore
A high ranking cyberneticist of the Black Ghost organization, Gilmore defects with the rest of the cyborgs in a hoax hostage situation in order to escape Black Ghost's grasp and cope with his own guilt over what he's done. He advises the team from a distance during operations and handles all their maintenance himself. He has varying degrees of insight into the factions of the Commonwealth, such as how the Black Ghost, Institute, and even the Enclave and BoS operate. Dr. Gilmore’s knowledge is invaluable for dealing with these groups politically – and offensively if it ever has to come to that.

@historyandqueershenanigans @sans--seraph @reallyintoscience all tagged me 💖💖💖 I love you all to pieces
Share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics, then tag ten people! If you’ve written less than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway.
So I definitely have more than ten fanfics to my name, but before I started writing sandman I had about a 5-6 year gap in writing so I don't know if that counts as recent whoops. I'll include them for the nostalgia factor I guess
A View to a Dream (Fandom: Sandman. Ship: Dreamling. 2023 WIP)
“009, you’re being redirected. A new mission has been assigned to you.” Q’s voice is quiet, but firm, allowing no room for arguments.
they say our love's just like Magic (Fandom: Sandman. Ship: Dreamling. 2023 Oneshot/Complete)
"Hurry up, Hob, we're going to be late!" Johanna's voice rings through Hob's entryway.
Wake Up & Smell The Flowers (Fandom: Sandman. Ship: Dreamling. 2023 Oneshot/Complete)
The shop has been barely open for fifteen minutes when Hob hears the bell ding. He smiles. He’s pretty sure he knows who has just walked in the door.
Midnight Pleasures (Fandom: Sandman. Ship: Dreamling. 2023 WIP)
He wakes to his hands and feet bound.
"Hob Gadling," a deep voice growls. "Did you truly think you could deceive me?"
and if I get burned, at least we were electrified (Fandom: Sandman. Ship: Hobrinthian/Hobrintheus. 2023 Complete)
Hob Gadling is not sure what drove him to take a smoke near the dilapidated White Horse tavern instead of just outside The New Inn, but he’s now wishing he'd stuck closer to civilization as he would’ve completely avoided the mess he’s currently in.
Descent (Fandom: Tiger & Bunny. Ship: one sided Mattia/Barnaby. 2022 Oneshot/Complete)
Mattia spends hours and hours relaying everything he knows to the Stern Bild police. He lets them probe about his research, fumbles when he admits he has no idea who his sponsor has been this entire time, and cries when he realizes that yes, all his colleagues are confirmed dead.
Lost and Found (Fandom: Legends of Tomorrow. Ship: Steelatom. 2017 Oneshot/Complete)
Nate is pretty sure his soulmate is the most forgetful person on the planet.
What's in a name? (Fandom: Legends of Tomorrow. Ship: Steelatom. 2017 Oneshot/Complete.)
It was no secret that Nate and Ray were head over heels, over the moon in love with one another.
A Life Not Lived (Fandom: Legends of Tomorrow. Ship: Steelatom. 2017 Oneshot/Complete)
Ray had been feeling off ever since they came back from 1967. He couldn't explain why, but he felt like there were things he should know, but didn't.
Vanilla Frosting (Fandom: Legends of Tomorrow. Ship: ColdAtomWave. 2016 Oneshot/Complete)
If you were to tell Ray Palmer that he would be nursing a broken heart by baking over six dozen cupcakes, he probably would have shrugged and agreed.
Oh god who to tag that hasn't already been tagged and done it uhhhhhhh: @yary-t @starklystar @quellawrites @bluesundaycake @wizardofgoodfortune and anyone else who wants to do it! <3
#tagged meme#seiya gets tagged#seiya writes#I love the drastic differences in my writing style#part of that is yes I got older and hopefully better at writing#but also legends was such a fucking wild and whimsical show#that there was zero way I was going to write anything but fluff and humor#...I am still prone to fluff and humor

This side note is kind of just for my followers because I love to observe webs of influence and I would like to point out that, at least without context and not knowing either this poet/writer or the show involved, it IS possible that the show writers were influenced somehow by the poet’s work (not the other way around obviously bc their writing came first). For example, it’s not a coincidence that Cyborg 009’s finale is titled “From Here to Eternity” or that the ending itself bears similarities to Ray Bradbury’s “Kaleidoscope”; the concept of the cyborgs themselves was lifted from a magazine article; hell, the art style almost looks like the creator’s mentor’s style (Osamu Tezuka). Not to mention the character with code name “007” being British, or an American character named Jet Link (a reference to Jet Rink) and being part of a gang in NYC’s West Side that just so happens to be depicted dancing like they’re on Broadway…
Of course, I think the user asking the question directed it to entirely the wrong person 💀 you really ought to ask the creator of the show, if you’re wondering about what influenced its creation. How is this guy supposed to know anything about it 😭 no wonder he was annoyed
also maybe the connection being drawn here was just really stupid, but again I never saw this show so I wouldn’t know. Just saying not to dismiss the notion that maybe they are connected somehow. You never know!
Richard Siken… Richard Fucking Siken. You asked RICHARD SIKEN if his poems were inspired by BUDDIE. Gay men do not exist in people’s heads except as props huh?
#other interesting influence fact#Thief and the Cobbler which is Dick William’s unfinished masterpiece was an influence on Disney’s Aladdin as it started development first#But it took so long to be completed (never actually bc it was seized and finished by another studio when funding ran out from investors)#So Aladdin came out first and it looked like it was the other way around#Alright back to work byeee

Seattle Mariners 2024 Season - Post 1 - Midseason Form
(Apologies for skipping these recaps last season. And approximately half of this season. As any writer or baseball fan or otherwise person knows, ruts are hard to dig yourself out of. Which perfectly segues to….)
This morning, there was an extra anxiousness rattling in my brain, bumping up against all the usual anxiousness.
I walked the blocks from the bus stop to work, anticipating the serving of breakfast baseball that would be served in 2 hours and the resulting upset stomach that there is no remedy for.
The Mariners would lose and their season would be over.
It’s not yet July and the Mariners are in first place in the AL West, thanks to slow starts by the Astros and Rangers. On top of that, the Mariners are 45-37, for a .549 winning percentage, a whole .009 above 54%. So why the doom and gloom?
Well, for one, the Mariners.
For two, recency bias. This morning’s game is the last game of a 9 game road trip, one through which the M’s have gone 2-6. At the same time, the Astros have gone 6-1. Before that stretch of 8 games for the M’s they held a 9 game lead over the Astros. This morning, that lead is 4.5. Possibly 3.5 by lunchtime. Most assuredly 3.5. I’m sick already.
This morning’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays starts off with 2 innings of scoreless baseball.
That is broken in the 3rd when Jose Caballero scores from 2nd on an infield single to the pitcher.
Unfortunately, Cabby is no longer on the Mariners. Traded to the Rays last offseason.
Rays up 1-0 when Cabby takes advantage of some bad Mariners luck. George Kirby fields the grounder from Yandy Diaz, but Kirby has to try to beat Diaz to first base as first baseman Ty France is positioned towards second base and not covering the bag. Diaz beats Kirby to first and Cabby takes advantage of the confusion and sprints home.
I don’t like being on the other side of Jose Caballero’s peskiness and speed. I don’t like it at all. To quote George Kirby, “Screw Cabby for going home on that play.”
At this point, the Mariners have had two baserunners. Cal Raleigh walked in the 2nd inning and J.P. Crawford doubled in the 3rd inning. The M’s take no advantage of either opportunity.
The M’s let the 4th and 5th inning go by, not by squandering baserunners, but by not having any.
There is a little solace in the bottom of the 5th when Jose Caballero is thrown out trying to steal 2nd base.
With 1 out in the Mariners half of the 6th inning, J.P. Crawford walks.
The Rays go to their bullpen, bringing Shawn Armstrong in to relieve Ryan Peppiot.
Josh Rojas grounds to second and the Rays get the force out of J.P. at second but the inning is still alive and Rojas is the tying run at first.
Julio Rodriguez keeps the inning alive with a walk.
Cal Raleigh keeps the M’s season alive with a monster home run to right field, putting the Mariners up 3-1.
George Kirby pitches a 1-2-3 inning to end the 6th.
In the 7th inning with 2 outs J.P. Crawford hits a fly ball single just out of reach of Jose Caballero that scores Mitch Garver and Dominic Canzone, adding 2 insurance runs for a 5-1 Mariners lead.
In the bottom of the 9th, Andres Munoz comes in to secure the win for the M’s. In the grand scheme of things, salvaging a road trip and not allowing the Astros the opportunity to close the gap in the standings definitely counts as high leverage. I get it. Andrez Munoz, likely still having lingering pain from a lower back strain stint on the IL earlier this month, didn’t have it.
He loads the bases with two walks a hit batter. I can already see the Rays walk off celebration and the Trop going crazy.
Trent Thonton comes in to relieve Munoz, salvage the win and the Mariners season.
Thornton gets Richie Palacios to hit a grounder to 2B Ryan Bliss, Bliss flips the ball to J.P. Crawford to get the force out at second base. Palacios reaches base safely and the Rays add a run, but now a double play would end the game with a win for the M’s.
The next batter, Ahmed Rosario, the hypothetical tying run, gives the Mariners just what they need.
J.P. Crawford fields the ground ball, throws to second base for one, on to first for the double play.
A much needed win!
Keeps my doom and gloom away for a least 2 days, with tomorrow being a travel day for the Mariners.
Friday has them begin a homestand with 3 against the Minnesota Twins, who last month were poor hosts and took 3 out of 4 against the Mariners.
Let’s hope the M’s can return the favor.

How Technology Is Changing How We Treat 009BET
She was a little bit country. He was a little bit rock and roll. Together, they were a whole lot of ridiculous. And somehow, through the magic of over-the-top musical numbers, phenomenal guest stars, and painfully kitschy acting skills, Donny and Marie Osmond captured the attention and hearts of the entire nation. While The Donny and Marie Show of the late seventies only lasted a handful of seasons, their outrageous prime-time antics have made a lasting impression on TV viewers of any generation.
The Donny & Marie Show was created by SId and Marty Krofft, the famed creators of other such offbeat television programs as H.R. Pufnstuf and Land of the Lost. It aired from January 1976 to May 1979 as a weekly on ABC and featured such famous guest stars as Redd Fox, Lucile Ball, Betty White, Jerry Lewis, and Milton Berle. The format usually consisted of an elaborate opening act followed by a series of comedy sketches and an even more elaborate closing musical number. But for all the campy scripts and synchronized dance routines, the real stars of the Donny & Marie Show were, without a doubt, the costumes.
The 1977 Christmas special episode is a great example of Donny and Marie’s ability to balance cutesy-poo costumes on that thin line between adorable and nauseating. Donny kept it simple; dressing in a matching white knit sweater and slacks combo with a red, white and green striped scarf, he wasn’t afraid to say to the world, “Hi! I’m Donny Osmond! I taste like spearmint!” Marie made bolder choices in her winter finest with what looks to be a one-piece body suit but, upon closer inspection, turns out to be a sweater and stretch pants that are just slightly different shades of green. What makes this episode so memorable costume-wise is the fact that the entire Osmond family was featured –Mother, Father, the small army of twenty-eight that is the rest of their immediate family– and they all match. I’m not sure who was in charge of coordinating outfits for that episode, but my hat 009 game certainly is off.
Another interesting costume extravaganza was the episode in which Marie celebrated her 18th birthday. In this episode, Marie and Donny sing their familiar weekly number, “I’m A Little BIt Country, I’m A Little Bit Rock-and-Roll”, but this time — gasp! — they switch lyrics! That’s right! And what kind of dramatic turn events would it be without ridiculous costumes. Both Donny and Marie sport matching silver outfits. Donny has a faux-western theme going on, while Marie looks like she just got back from touring with David Bowie. Marie also has an enormous new hairdo or, as Donny refers to it, a “hair don’t.”
Donny and Marie didn’t stop at matching scarves and silver jumpsuits, though. In one episode, Donny portrays a superhero character known as Captain Purple, wearing an oversized purple muscle suit and wig and, as his mild-mannered alter-ego, a flannel suit. Not to be outdone, Marie suits up herself as Gnidder Neleh (Helen Redding spelled backward) in an equally campy red-orange mini-skirt and wig.
Star Wars being the cultural phenomenon that it was, it only made sense that Donny and Marie would have to do a parody of it. Donny plays Luke and Marie plays Leia with such guest stars as Redd Fox, Kris Kristofferson, Paul Lynde, and a few of the Osmond brothers. The costumes were polished, Osmond-style variations of the originals; unfortunately, C-3PO ends up stealing the show.
The best costumes of the entire series, however, belong to the famous Wizard of Oz episode. Marie plays Dorothy in a red checkered dress and pigtails, Donny is a Willy Wonka-esque Wizard in a yellow-green, curly wig and sparkling fez hat, and Paul Lynde is a downright terrifying Wicked Witch of the West in full green face paint, black gown and gruesome fingernails. Additional victims…err, guests…of this episode include Lucille Ball as the Tin Man, Paul Williams as the Cowardly Lion and Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow. The entire production is technicolor bizarre; the epitome of classic Donny and Marie.
While the show did indeed host a laundry list of Hollywood greats, the real stars weren’t the people on the stage but the clothes on the people. From platform shoes and bellbottoms to capes and ice skates, Donny and Marie weren’t afraid to let their clothes pick up where their own talent left off. And while some may find The Donny & Marie Show silly and outdated, one thing is for sure; there hasn’t been anything like it on television since. Wardrobe-wise, that is.
