This is something my friend and I were discussing, but since neither of us watched the show and we just watched Ruth's clips because we love her 😅 I figured I would ask you.

How does Night Nurse's employment work in this universe? Is she a slave to Tamlyn Tomita's character? If she, at the end, said she didn't want to stay with the boys on Earth, would she get to make that choice?

As always this answer turned out longer that I expected🤦🏻😅 so TLDR; it's not clear how the employment works but the Night Nurse has to follow her superior's orders. Whether she can make her own choices depends on her origins and how Afterlife works but we don't have a definitive answer for either one of these questions yet. And I haven't read the comics so what I wrote are mostly speculations based on The Sandman and dbd TV shows.

Here's the long answer:

It is not clear how exactly Afterlife works. I would have said it's under Death of the Endless' supervision but the whole strict, bureaucratic theme of the office doesn't really match her vibes. It's clear that the people there, despite their power, do not have the freedom to do what they want. For example to get permission to go to Earth the Night Nurse had to have a specific location of the ghosts she wanted to retrieve. But does she have free will to disobey her orders? To answer this I have to make a detour first.

The Night Nurse works in the Lost and Found Department and her superior-Tamlyn Tomita's character-who is said to be very busy and has the number "002" on her office's door is in fact Niko. Niko was infected by dandelion sprites and was saved by dead boy detectives. As a result of her near death experience she could see the ghosts and became the dbd's friend. She had died just a few days ago protecting them.

So this powerful entity who according to her, could do anything she wanted was human once. The curious thing is that she didn't remember the boys, not until she saw her human name on their wall as one of the closed cases. So we can assume that all the other people in that department were also human once. A pair of twins that are mentioned as one of the closed cases can be further proof of that. The twins work under the Night Nurse could possibly be the same twins.

But why are these people working there? The Night Nurse mentions that death isn't an option available to her and technically she can live for eons. Maybe it is a place for the ones who can't actually find their afterlife? We see Niko dies but we never see her meeting Death or the blue light that comes with her. Instead we see Niko with the dandelion sprites in an igloo. This is probably the result of the polar bear lucky charm she had with her when she died but what that lucky charm did and why the sprites were there and how she aged or why she didn't remember the boys at first are all questions that we don't know the answer to.

All of this though can give of us some clues. Like wherever Niko went, time doesn't work the same and she could age. She somehow existed before she was born and died on Earth. So can the Night Nurse be one of the future cases the boys haven't helped yet? She has the ability to see people's traumas and when Crystal tries to see inside her head she sees a skeleton with lots baby hands inside her that terrifies her. I wouldn't be surprised if her human life is tied to sth traumatic involving children.

It is also interesting that one of her main interactions is with Kashi, someone in a terrible situation with no trauma, someone kind with no alterior motive that helps her sees and considers different ways to what is always been done. Free will and doing what one's like to do are also topics that are mentioned in relation to her character. So if there's a second season those are some of the themes that can be explored with her character.

But I think it also matters who the number one is Afterlife is. Dream of the Endless decided to give free will to his subjects. Whoever the number one is in Afterlife, is probably the one who has the last say in this.

Other than spending a good chunk of time using him to find the cure for the Metal virus, I have been having quite the amount of fun with a certain hedgehog- Sonic was a… tough shell to crack, I'll give him that. But it’s nothing that time can’t handle. Or electronically simulated time. That poor hedgehog thinks he has lived what- six or seven lives? Or, excuse me, SHE thinks she has. The joys of technology. To get years of manipulation in, yet only taking a matter of minutes. Of course, it takes an unfortunate amount of power to run. Quite a joy cutting and using the hedgehog’s own quills for her downfall. I should get a trim done though… If she’s going to be walking around in the open, then she needs to at least look presentable. And an outfit, I’ll think of something. She can’t be recognizable to the others. I mean, she can who cares at this point. Over half of them are entirely under my control, and the rest don’t stand a chance. Back to Oizys. Just to make things clear- Sonic no longer exists.

002-MILES

That little fox, constantly asking me questions about his brother? It was driving me up the wall! Not to mention, it was hard to keep up the act of Shadow and Nine knowing about the Phantom Ruby Sonic while convincing Knuckles that Tails was hallucinating the hedgehog Much more effort than I needed to be giving. Of course, the answer had to fall into my lap. Sure, I had been working on him daily with Hypnotization, slowly replacing old memories with Sonic to memories with me. I managed to restore some of his memories from before he met Sonic and ooh the spice. But when Shadow brought him back saying he had passed out, and Tails admitting the only cure he had found? Do you know how easy it is to change the programming of one of those chips? I don’t even have to make him forget anything against his will. A little pain when he tries to access those memories, and the fox comes crying to me, trying to make it stop. Who am I to say no to my little MIles?

003-KNUCKLES

The echidna, however, there's no quick fix for. I’m afraid I might have to have as many “Lessons” with him as I did with Surge and Kitsunami. His mental strength may be strong, but once I get the second surgery done with, I plan on inserting something else after removing the rest. It couldn’t hurt to make it a little more potent against the echidna, could it not?

004-CHAOS-SONIC

Oh, he was simply too easy, that whole escapade that Robotnik caused? It was the perfect excuse for me to do a little editing of my own to Chaos Sonic’s code without his fox friend noticing. my thoughts: i feel like we don't really get a lot of yuri in this specific Type of horror (i.e. cute thing is secretly fucked up), at least not in the west. i think that's a crying shame, but i believe popstar has the potential to truly open the floodgates. unless i'm forgetting herstory - idk i feel like there's definitely some rpgmaker game out there that'll prove me wrong but you know what i mean. more mascot horror yuri NOW.

What makes me happy about them: i think it's super cute that they both kinda geek out whenever one of them asks the other for help, like they're being asked by this big huge celebrity and not, like. their literal next door neighbor lol. sally in particular - as bullheaded as she is, her insistence on trying to put poppy in the spotlight more often isn't because she thinks poppy is untalented and needs to train up, but because she genuinely thinks poppy is Just That Stunning And Talented And Beautiful, and doesn't want that to go to waste. nepotism has never looked so romantic <3

What makes me sad about them: sally seems to enlist poppy's help Way more than poppy does sally's, and while sally clearly Wants to take poppy seriously, she has a hard time not immediately brushing off other's concerns in general because She's An Auteur, Dammit, She Knows What She's Talking About. it does make me very worried for poppy! i think things between them are gonna get Way worse before they get better lol. not dysfunctional enough to be toxic yuri but certainly painful enough that it will Get Me when it happens.

when or if I started shipping it: i dunno! i don't remember ever being opposed to the ship, but there was definitely a period of time where my approach to it was more "hmmm i wonder what this ship being canon means for welcome home's Themes" and less "ough fuck they make me so sick," as opposed to the current day where it's a pretty even mix of both.

my thoughts: god what haven't i said about them. i think i peaked with this post. i don't think anything i say can summarize the appeal of their relationship to me more succinctly than that.

What makes me happy about them: when it comes to eddie, frank is like. frank is so fucking funny bc he seems to be under the impression that he's being subtle. yeah get mad whenever anyone who isn't you makes fun of that beautiful big breasted mailman to the point where you'll even defend his honor in the merch advertisements and also when you Do make fun of him be sure to be gentler than you would be with almost anyone else but also don't let up entirely bc then you won't get to see him be adorably flustered and also enforce a surname-only basis with him so people don't think you're getting too chummy but ALSO drop the surname-only basis whenever he seems genuinely upset to let him know that you're worried about him and want to help. and also do this in front of everyone at a holiday party. nobody will suspect a thing. and the best part is that IT WORKS ON EDDIE. Things done in fanfic that annoys me: when i click on the eddie dear/frank frankly tag. and i filter out all mentions of wally darling. i should not still be seeing wally darling. do u understand. get that little yellow cunt OUT of here!!!!!!!

Things I look for in fanfic: pre-established relationship hurt/comfort or angst. i realize i may be alone in my interpretation of franklydear as not being Together together yet, but i am stubborn.

when or if I started shipping it: an old friend of mine made a joke about it once in 2022, waaaay before there was any like, huge fandom presence outside of a few scant discord servers. i thought about it too hard and now i'm here.

my thoughts: romantically or not, THEY ARE SOOOOO DOOMED, DUDE. THEY ARE SO FUCKING DOOMED. and i don't mean, like, "yeah they have some stuff that makes their current relationship less than ideal but i'm sure they can work things out ^-^" no i mean DOOMED. there's only one way this relationship can end and it is in BLOOD and TEARS. and i will be there with a tissue box and a big ol' bucket of popcorn. i've written about them so much on this blog already but by god i will write more.

What makes me happy about them: the obsessive aspect to their relationship, like. it feels very mutual. it would be so easy to make home coldly imposing 24/7 and/or just have them be taking advantage of wally's love for them, but. no. they seem just as attached to their inhabitant as he is to them, for better or worse. i get a lot more mileage out of a relationship where both parties Love each other and desperately want to be all-encompassing for one another in All aspects of relationships, but live in a reality where that simply cannot be, and their relationship is wildly unhealthy as a result. home is a monument to a past that either never existed or cannot be revived without Severe consequences. but wally doesn't care about that. all wally cares about is that he is his home. see also: this post.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: most wally/home fic is either pure crackfic or fic in which home gets hit hard with the ron the death eater treatment. like jesus, he's already pretty morally ambiguous in canon by just Standing There, you don't need to make him an actual rapist to establish that his and wally's relationship isn't exactly ideal.

Things I look for in fanfic: i don't look for it because i've pretty much given up on it being there at all, but i hope more folks write some actual character study-adjacent stuff about them some day!

My kinks: i do have actual answers to this but no way am i stating them here. again, i have a separate blog for that.

I was just checking the posts on this blog when I came across a message from someone asking about my Pest HC being a homeless boy in his teens, and of course, I'm here to answer the question!

While the area was infested with the "bugtans", a group of scientists collected DNA from some captured specimens; their idea was to create a strong variant that could protect and defend civilization from any evil.

A small egg that was found outside was added to one of the incubators; from there "Guest 1314" was born, he was separated from the group due to being a smaller and "weaker" larva.

He doesn't remember much of his childhood, except for a few moments where it was about the tests they did on him, or people just writing things down and asking him questions.

On the other hand, he remembers the bad times and treatment he received from these people, because unlike the other larvae, Pest is a test subject: the experiments were used to benefit the other beetles, while they harmed him.

He escaped from there when he was 12, just a few weeks after his metamorphosis was interrupted.

Going outside for the first time was a wonderfully terrifying experience; he had never felt the earth, seen the sky, felt the air, he was finally free, but he was also prey to new problems that would seek him out…

He learned to survive by stealing, a stealthy thief who acted at night, since its the time when businesses were about to close, and with the absence of people on the street they were easy targets.

But now, how did a homeless teenager end up being adopted by Cream Scooper?

Re-read my previous post, context of Pest and Crem's first interaction

Since that night there was no trace of the Beetleboy, and there were very few occasions where they met again.

Crem took advantage of those moments to talk to him, gave him food, sometimes clothes to keep him warm. However, Pest was not used to this kind of acts, he was always "something", not "someone", no matter how much help they gave him, he rejected it.

He even tried to act rude to get Crem away. He's a scared boy, because who could assure him that he was safe? How long would his comfort last? He didn't even want to try.

Despite everything, the ice cream creature was always there for him, even when he got into trouble, coming to the rescue to prevent anything from happening to the boy.

There was never any “thank you” from Pest. Maybe because he's too proud to admit it, but deep down, he was grateful to know that at least there was someone who cared about him. Never calls them "dad", he considers them his guardian...

They lost contact when he was finally taken to jail. Crem never found out about it, they spent a long time thinking that he finally escaped, although deep down they feared that his life was taken away.

In the Domestic AU the situation changes a lot (not so much, since Pest is still a problematic teenager) Instead, instead of the little one being sent to those laboratories, he appeared one day alone in the ice cream shop.

Crem of course went out to check if the mother was not present, even looking for reports of missing children. And nothing, there was no one looking for him...

Without further ado, the ice cream creature decided to adopt him. Yes, Pest's last name would be Scooper.

ADVICE ON HOW TO START A BLOG(WRITING).

it was asked by someone but i accidentally sent it through private answer ㅠㅠ so i'll be listing out the points again (more detailed) in this post plus additional points for anyone who might need it! (for a writing blog) find more tips here in my NAVI. if anyone has any other point, please feel free to add we're all here to help!

( 001. ) first step is to decide what kind of content you want your blog to be centered around. drabbles? oneshots? reactions? texts? smaus? series? of course you don't have to stick to one, you can write all, but the point is which one do you want to start your blog with and which one you want to build your blog with?

for me personally i chose to build my blog through reactions and then when i felt i had built a good enough base and an audience, i started branching out into the other types. this might not be the way everyone wants to follow but trust me it helps build a name well. they would recognize you for the kind of content you write and then your audience (people who like what you are writing) will find you!

for requests, i would suggest not to ask for them until a certain time. wait until you are settled into your blog and are comfortable with things and have at least a couple of works posted so that people know what they should be expecting when they ask for something.

it is also COMPLETELY FINE not to take requests like ever because it is your blog and you are providing content for free so no one has the right to tell you what to do. do not ever feel guilty for not giving in to people's demands if it's not what you want. if anyone and i mean anyone tells you otherwise, demands or harasses you regarding posting more or posting something they want or posting less or literally anything that they do not contribute to, block them. they do not deserve to have access to your free content with such entitlement.

( 002. ) pick out a username you want to be known by, and make a navigation post with all the links: your about me, rules, masterlist and so on.

in the about me page, let people know your age (you can write adult/minor as well) your alias (the name you want to be known by- it's different from username like for example my username is 'wonryllis' and my alias is 'yeonie' ) and anything you'd want people to know about you.

in the rules page, let people know what you are and are not comfortable with. what kind of people are not allowed to interact with your content including age restrictions (for eg mine is -15/30+), what kind of content you are open to writing and what kind of content you will absolutely not write, any rules you have regarding sending requests and asks, whether your requests are currently open, what would one have to do to be in your permanent/specific fic taglist and so on. you can look through the rules page of other blogs and find what you want to include.

for a masterlist, my advice will be to make one as soon as you have at least three works posted. when you have all your works in one place people find it easier to look through your blog and hence support you.

if you join any networks (i do recommend joining some as they help spread your work) you may also make a networks page where you list the networks you are in. similarly any individual page you wish to post and want any newcomer to be able to see, link it in the navigation.

( 003. ) for mutuals, my best advice is to wait. wait until you have made a decent name for yourself through your writings, because honestly as much as there are a lot of nice people here, there are bad too. so you must have a somewhat strong base before you befriend anyone.

mutuals doesn't always have to mean that you talk daily or you read each of their works or you show up in their inbox at every chance, sometimes you just silently follow each other because you like their work, sometimes you just become friends because you like their vibe, sometimes you just occasionally text each other about some mutual likes and dislikes. there is no set criteria, just you do you.

though i must warn you that if the case is such that you ask to be their mutual and then not interact with them at all then that is wrong because you explicitly asked them to follow you to become mutuals and then you ghost- that's basically clout. don't do that to anyone ò⁠_⁠ó⁠ˇ⁠)

( 004. ) be kind, be nice, be humane. like i always say a little kindness goes a long way (this applies to real life especially) you never know what someone is going through in their life or how bad their day might have been or that they are on this site to feel a bit better so it's always good to respond and spread positivity and happiness.

your words may not seem like a lot to you but perhaps to someone it might mean everything. don't be shy to tell someone if you like something about their work or their blog or just about anything it might make their day. never hurts to compliment people now does it? there's so much negativity in the world already, why add to it?

( 005. ) lastly have patience, keep trying and don't give up! some blogs grow big in a month and some in a year. if you don't try you will never know your potential, always strive to improve and always strive to be happy with your work, any amount of validation and compliments will only ever work for a split moment before you go back to feeling miserable if you don't love your work and your effort.

it is very much possible that some works may not do well as others or some works may hit luck and garner a lot of attention or some works may just go unnoticed to a saddening extent, but it's all a part of writing. something you may expect to blow up, might not and something you have no hope in doing good may become your most popular work. it's all luck.

overall my point is, it'll not happen in one day but one day it will surely happen! 🤞🏻
