There is no way I will EVER believe Dean Winchester was supposed to say, "and I you." There's no way they would've written the line that way even if it HAD been written. It's so grammatically awkward out of his mouth that it makes me laugh when I see it. I'm not against the ship, but the delusion about 15x18 is unending.
honestly...yeah. i have to agree with this. it's a strange and somewhat awkward line of dialogue anyway but it is a super strange line of dialogue to attempt to give, of all people, dean winchester.
listen, i am not anti d*stiel. i'm at the point where i have no strong feelings either way for the ship itself. it mostly just makes me feel a bit bored. i believe cas was definitely in love with dean. i believed that long before he said it out loud. it was pretty obvious. i think there are different ways to interpret dean's feelings - and yes, one of those ways is that he was in love with him too. it's very possible. ultimately i just don't care enough to put any real work or feelings into that ship in any way.
but dean would not have said that.
it is so stunningly out of character that i'm genuinely boggled as to how so many people are just like ''oh good. now we have confirmation. this sounds right. this is a fact now.''
if people want to believe dean reciprocates, i get that. of course people prefer their ship to be a mutual thing. i totally understand that. i have zero problem with that. but there's just. no way dean winchester would have said it in that specific way. unless he was very suddenly and momentarily possessed by the ghost of an old english gentleman.
which, to be fair, does sound like the kind of thing that would happen to him, but that would be a weird time for it to happen.
#i will say that the overall mood of just general acceptance that this line is a fact does validate my theory that the current spn fandom#has literally no grasp on dean winchester as a character#which is sad because they have tried really really hard to replace canon dean with watered down fanon dean (a dud if i ever saw one)#and unfortunately given how widespread this is.... that appears to be working#which means that the only dean who will be remembered is the dean they made up in their heads and that's unfortunate#because that dude is terribly dull#it's sort of like they took his corpse and embalmed him and preserved him real nice#and then propped him up at the back of a party so they could make him their puppet and talk for him#and are trying to con people into believing this was always who he was#which sounds like a great horror movie but i know that's not what they're going for#BUT ANYWAY#.....also there's a very real chance that this was just a translation error#and maybe the line was just something like ''i love you too'' but was translated into ''and i you''#and some portions of the fandom are just being too literal which.......i mean. yeah. i can see that#asks#anon#spn fandom discourse#spn discourse

hey, do you know of any BL-s similar to A boss and a Babe? I don't mean plot wise or setting but a bl with a similar uke (Cher). I feel like I haven't seen much or at all BL-s with an uke that's such a crackhead, so vital, positive, non dramatic, up for anything, vocal about feelings and love, the one who also kinda pursues when it's needed, that pushes boundaries etc etc
Huh, you mean like a GGG uke? (good giving game)
There are LOTS of crackheads... seek ye Japan. But that goes real fast into cringe, like Secret Crush On You.
The GGG part is where we fall down. This is a very new take on the archetype. Also non-dramatic, I mean it's a BL drama so dramatic is kinda the point.
I'll take a stab!
crackhead
vital & positive (sunshine)
pursues when it's needed (switchy)
non dramatic (good)
vocal about feelings and love (giving)
up for anything, pushes boundaries (game)
Fits all 6 criteria (but in their own countries' style):
All the Liquors (Korea)
Mr Heart (Korea)
Ocean Likes Me (Korea)
Be Loved In House I Do (Taiwan)
Love Sick (Thailand - bet you didn't see that one coming)
And now some that do their best satisfying 4 ore more of the above requirements.
Thailand
Everyone is just really dramatic in Thai BL.
Coffee Melody (sides 1,2,4,5,6)
Ghost Host, Ghost House (2,3,4,5,6)
Great Men Academy (if you count it 2,2,3,6)
Ingredients (2,3,4,5,6)
KinnPorsche (1,2,3,5,6)
Love By Chance 2 (1,2,5,6)
Love In the Air (PayuRain 1,2,5,6)
Love in Translation (2,3,5,6)
Make A Wish (1,2,3,5,6)

My Tee (1,2,3,5,6)
Secret Crush On You (1,2,3,5,6)
Why R U? (2nd couple 1,2,3,5,6)
Taiwan
Seme/uke is always weak, queerness is more authentic so roles less prescribed and campy
DNA Says Love You (sides 1,2,3,6)
Kiseki Dear to Me (sides 1,2,3,6)
Stay By My Side (1,2,35,6)
Korea
Seme/uke is pretty weak, little to no crackhead, and everything will be more reserved and muted.
Some More (2,3,4,5,6)
The Eighth Sense (2,3,4,5,6)
Behind Cut (2,4,6)
Jun & Jun (2,4,5,6)
Long Time No See (2,3,4,5,6) but also LIES
Our Boarding House (2,3,4,6)
Oh My Assistant (1,2,3,6)
Tasty Florida (2,3,4,5,6)
The Lover (2,3,4,6)
Tinted With You (2,3,4,6)
Unintentional Love Story (2,3,4,5,6)
Why R U? (2nd couple 1,2,5,6)
Japan
But the ones it does have it REALLY leans into.
Seven Days (2,3,4,5)
If It's With You (2,3,4,5,6)
Restart After Come Back Home (2,4,5,6)
Silhouette of Your Voice (1,2,4,6)
Takara & Amagi (1,2,3,5)
My Memory is shot but???
Like Love from China might work.
Most stuff from the Philippines first some if not all.
Vietnam's My Lascivious Boss and You Are My Boy satisfy soem criteria.
Might also be worth reading
List dated Mid Dec 2023, ongoing BLs not included. If it aired after that date you should add it to the comments or something.

Minor advisor note: Katana Advisor was in episode S7EP15, for a brief still among the Villains captured...except they got his colors wrongs XD You still know its him from his head shape and neckbrace armor/but they still messed up his color scheme.
So I finally had the free time to go dig this episode up! I had to watch most of the episode to find the shot you were referring to, and then ducked back to the previous episode as well, as I’d always intended to at least watch Scarecrow’s big speech moment. Unsurprisingly, I have some thoughts.
Firstly, regarding Katana Advisor, I can only laugh and shake my head. Great job, Bones—add in a brand new shot of people getting captured, but the only established character whose capture might possibly be relevant has the wrong colors, so you can’t even conclusively say that it’s him. Impeccable work: Net Zero changes to the material.
(I agree that it’s obviously supposed to be him—that neck brace is very distinct—but I elect to ignore the implication because I will take any crumbs I can find that any given distinct MLA character is still in the wind at the end of the series. Not that I consider myself beholden to the anime’s garbage take on the MLA anyway, but still.)
That aside, hit the jump for the rest! There’s one particularly big one—a translation error in one of Scarecrow’s lines that in turn drew my attention to an issue with Viz’s translation of the same line in the manga—that I’ve saved for last.
O I enjoy that the anime makes it even more clear that Spinner did not run over any-damn-body. Like, that assumption was so omnipresent when people were talking about that chapter in the manga, but it never stood up to a close read of the actual details of the art. Does it make Pig Nose Guy’s crisis of conscience even more obviously dumb and contrived? Oh hell yes. But the hospital plot was that anyway, so I appreciate anything that makes it easier to explain why.
O Speaking of the human chain, chatting about the moment with Nal made me realize a particularly egregious thing about the set-up with the hospital. So like, the medical staff are willing to risk their lives for their patients, right? To the point that they’ll do a real damn stupid human chain instead of, say, trying to use all the chairs and benches and desks you’d find in a hospital to put together a fucking barricade, all for the sake of making a point?[1] But you know who very pointedly is not behind that human chain? You know who we never see a single person inside the hospital trying to defend? Kurogiri, that’s who. I guess the doctors just didn’t count him as a patient who needs to be protected, huh? Honestly, where is the brave whistle-blower hospital admin who’s going to give a bombshell interview about how Central Hospital begged the Heroes and the police to move Kurogiri somewhere else only to be refused, because one of the Heroes is personally attached to Kurogiri, and also because Hawks and Tsukauchi knew that Villains attacking a hospital would do irreparable damage to their cred, and that would be important for legal proceedings in the aftermath of all this? 1: Not at all how this would go in real life, especially given the conceit that the only patients left in the hospital are those whose condition is so delicate that they can’t be moved. But I guess Horikoshi was too busy asking his EMT contact about open-heart surgery on the battlefield to think to ask about hospital procedures in the event of an active terror threat. Also putting together a barricade inside the hospital would imply that the staff believe there’s any chance the defense force, who are outnumbered 75 to 1, could fail, and we all know from BNHA’s endgame that being proactive in the face of danger voids the Hero Protection Warrantee. Only those who are patient and wait for help to come actually deserve help; trying to help themselves makes them Villains.
O Scarecrow’s first appearance in the scene is so, so funny. He just floats downward into the frame. He’s not rappelling downwards using webbing, he’s not climbing down with his spider legs, he doesn’t have insect wings; he just drifts down like he has some kind of flight quirk. You know, the dude who will be defeated by knocking him off the roof of a tall building.
Why did you think it would help to knock this guy off a roof, Koda? He can clearly just hover right back up there. Perhaps his flight operates under similar principles as hot air balloons? Did attacking him with birds deprive him of most of his gas?
O WHERE IS HIS GODDAMN SALUTE.
THIS IS NOT THE LIBERATION SALUTE.
O I notice the anime kept the scene with the handgun—including actual bullet sounds!—despite the fact that that plot element goes absolutely nowhere, and in fact they also see fit to add police-issue lightning rifles. (Which, wow, that sure is a choice. Love to just make police look worse by electrocuting unarmed civilians. What, they couldn’t get a good supply of teargas ready in time?)
O It is so, so funny to me that the anime has finally, seven seasons in, started to care about dramatic lighting, but they’re stuck with the fact that the hospital attack happens in broad fucking daylight, before the other battles really start mucking with the weather. They do their best with a bunch of lit fires, using the orange light and smoke to suggest sunset lighting and distant stars, but that doesn’t change the fact that The BNHA Anime Cloudscape is lurking just beyond the haze.
This becomes extremely clear when the smoke instantly evaporates the red hot second the mob finally stops for good. Check the before and after here:
Hysterical. I guess all these people had to do for the light to shine on them was to stop rioting! Being good civilians who meekly endure their mistreatment and wait for salvation to be handed to them from outside can literally make the sun come out! Who needs One For All punches to change the weather? Apparently enough civilians can replicate the effect just by feeling bad enough about themselves.
O I was being fairly annoyed about the BGM scoring Spinner’s internal monologue right before he makes the last push through to Kurogiri. Like, it was so plainly ominous and scary, emotionally keying the viewer to view Spinner’s reflections as foreboding a horrible change of the tides. As someone who was mostly grieving for Spinner in that moment, it rubbed me the wrong way pretty badly.
...And then that music just kept on playing as the POV of the scene switched to Present Mic and I remembered that Spinner’s last push doesn’t actually come until after the incredible bit where Yamada Hizashi confirms that Spinner has been incapacitated and then apparently decides he needs to kill Shirakumo Oboro anyway, just so his existence can no longer trouble their mutual friend. And that, dear readers, made me way more forgiving of the ominous BGM!
O I would like to give Shimono Hiro, Dabi’s voice actor, a fucking medal for his line deliveries immediately before and after he goes through Kurogiri’s warp. The laugh when he realizes he’s going to get teleported to his dad is breathy, pervy, a perfect encapsulation into a single two-syllable sound of his deranged anticipation for tormenting Endeavor some more. Then his, “Otou-san!” as he appears before Endeavor is even better: high-pitched, off-balance, questioning and eager like he can’t believe his good luck. Truly, Shimono-san understood the fazacon assignment and he delivered.
O The closing sequence is…really strange. It’s like it’s pretending that it has a visual theme of reaching out to others, hands extended to those in need, and then the viewpoint cuts to a wider angle and you realize all the characters who were reaching out are actually just sinking down through clear water, their arms floating a little above their torsos. The last shot, of Deku settling to the sea floor and smiling serenely with his eyes closed, is especially bonkers. Like, what’s the message here? That no one involved has any agency in what they’re doing, but are just going with the flow established by other people? Deku reaches rock bottom, at peace with the knowledge that he doesn’t have to try to do hard stuff like “save Shigaraki” anymore because the grown-ups have sorted it all out for him?
I mentioned this in my chat group and Nal pointed me to the lyrics of the song, which use the word rokutousei, “sixth-magnitude star.” While a bit of research suggests this is actually a not uncommon bit of metaphor in Japanese songs—I found at least five different ones that used it in lyrics, title or both!—personally, I was immediately reminded of Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans’ third intro, Rage of Dust, which uses the same term but with a wholly different emotional tenor, and one that I dearly wish the Heroes could have emulated the energy of.
The difference is that BNHA’s closer, itself titled Rokutousei, is about the sixth-magnitude star (or rather, the singer who is comparing themselves to it) searching for someone else, with an overarching tone of wistfulness, while IBO’s Rage of Dust is about said star screaming defiance and vowing not to flicker out and die quietly, shouting its existence and will in the face of a system that would as soon grind it into dust without even noticing. Rather than dust, become stardust, proclaims the song, carrying on the dreams of others. And that defiance, that refusal to let themselves be exploited by the more powerful figures around them, fits perfectly with the struggles of IBO’s main characters.
And like, okay, sure, Rokutousei having a tone of, “I’ll do it, I guess, I hope, I mean, at least I’ll try, even though there’s such a lot against me, so much so that I’m already feeling wistful about how likely I am to succeed, but at least trying is beautiful and meaningful, right?” is certainly on-brand for BNHA’s endgame and Deku’s failures in particular, but good lord is it ever an odd tone to intentionally strike.
The essential difference between these two sequences: Deku letting himself drift aimlessly, eyes closed, arms lax at his sides vs. Mikazuki stubbornly dragging himself through the dirt with his one good arm, gaze fixed and hand grasping for the giant robot that allows him to fight for his future.
O While I think he performs it perfectly well—indeed, my biased heart found his Yamero, yamero! pretty wrenching!—I still don’t like that Scarecrow is clearly being interpreted by the anime as an older man. There’s nothing about him that looks especially old, insomuch as we can tell from his physical appearance, and neither is there anything I recognize in his word choice that suggests he’s a crotchety old man, either. It's a taste call, mainly, but man, I just like it better when he and Spinner and Shouji are all young men with diverging views on their oppression.
O Finally, the sub I watched had a whopper of a different translation of one of Scarecrow’s lines. @codenamesazanka turned up the raws for me, and we found that while the anime very obviously got it wrong, the Viz translation, too, was pretty eyebrow-raising. It’s one of those localization moments that leaves with the, “Oh, Caleb Cook, I want to shake your fucking hand….with a joybuzzer,” feeling I periodically had to wrestle with back when I was still doing chapter posts.
The line in question is this one:
Note how blatantly horrible this is, so nakedly manipulative that it stops even being very effective manipulation because no one could possibly say, “Don’t stop to think!” in good faith? Well, that’s probably because the line wasn’t originally that bald-faced. Even Translator Sis, who normally more or less agrees with C.Cook’s choices (certainly compared to the fan scanlations!), had a real :grimace_emoji: moment and said it was the kind of translation that could only come from a place of bias against the character.
The Japanese line here is, “Yamero yamero reisei ni naru na!” which would more literally translate to, “Stop, stop! Don’t calm down!” The first bit is straightforward: a simple repetition of one word that (particularly as delivered quite well by Scarecrow’s voice actor!) really gets across his desperation and panic that the highly important mission he was spearheading is falling apart in front of him. It’s much more openly emotional and unchecked than Viz’s, “Enough nonsense!”
The bigger issues is the second part. Reisei ni naru is basically a verb construction about cooling off, calming down, collecting or recovering oneself when emotions are threatening to cloud one’s judgement—Scarecrow’s line is telling the mob to not do that. I can certainly see where Caleb was coming from—it’s still a very Bad Guy thing to say!—but there is a clear difference between telling people to not let their passion evaporate and telling them outright not to think.
It feels a bit like a response to a tone policing argument, Shouji begging the crowd to be calm and think rationally because this sort of display of anger isn’t helping. And Scarecrow frantically tells them not to collect themselves and be rational because what has that rationality ever offered them? What is it offering them now? It’s just a prelude to telling them to go back home and endure their pain some more.
In much the same way as the idea of light/shadow/illumination is being argued between Scarecrow and Shouji, similar ideas of emotional temperature are implicit in the kanji used in the characters’ word choices. Netsu, 熱, literally meaning “heat,” is the word Scarecrow uses for the emotions of the crowd, their fevered zeal and passion—Spinner uses the same word later in the chapter when reflecting about how he was swept up by passion and followed Shigaraki. Reisei, conversely, contains the kanji for “cold,” 冷.[2] It's not about thinking or not thinking; it's about ferver vs. composure, passion vs. presence of mind.
2: The same 冷 is the kanji used for Rei's name, incidentally.
Notably, the idea of thinking does come up in the chapter also, and it's very much not Scarecrow telling the crowd not to think. Rather, he exorts them/Pig Nose Guy to think of the mistreatment they've suffered, to think only of that; Pig Nose Guy uses the same verb (考える, kangaeru, meaning to think about, to contemplate, to reflect on) when he replies that he is thinking about it.
Caleb correctly communicates the idea of thinking in that exchange, so it actually reads a bit weird to have Scarecrow, over the course of two pages, go from telling PNG to think to telling him not to. It comes off as Scarecrow's rhetoric failing him so him just desperately flailing for whatever words he can find, even if they blatantly contradict what he literally just said. That instant, hypocritical contradiction is not there in Japanese because he's talking about two different things!
I'm happy to know this—“Don’t stop to think!” is one of the very worst lines in that whole stretch of chapters to me!—but I do wish I'd known it much sooner. I was so cynical about Horikoshi's writing of the erstwhile MLA by that point that it never even occured to me to check the Japanese! So thanks for that, I guess, wild mistranslation by the anime subbers! XD
And thanks as always @shockersalvage for the ask! Who knows when I would have realized, if ever, if you hadn't given me the anime update to go check!

1-8, let’s not be late!
This is the last chapter in volume 1! I know it doesn't mean much to people reading the digital scan online, but... I like the visual of progress! Here is a photo of volume 1 irl:
it really is tiny. That explains why all the lines in the scan are blurry.
Ah… I get it. jinsei (人生)= life (person + life). I learned a new word… it’s N3 so I don’t feel that bad for not already knowing it, despite it being an incredibly basic one… Saiki, you really are a nerd, comparing life to rpg video games.
I like Saiki’s phrasing “it sounded like fun.” Life sounded like fun?
I wonder what the Japanese belief about souls before birth is. There’s not really much of one in Christianity. Hinduism and Buddhism both propose a life before birth as part of reincarnation. What is it here in the Saikiverse?
Personally, I kind of like the idea that a soul could have some fundamental interests and wants; more than that, curiosity. If souls exist. But I think they would have to be abstract things, like God and angels; things outside of our understanding while we are alive. I think this is the kind of thing that Toritsuka would know a lot about… maybe.
Okay that got off on a tangent.
Oh shit it’s this chapter! I totally forgot that this was in volume 1.
LMAO
Asou sensei… I am not sure how to feel about suicide being made funny. I guess: good? If you get a choice between laughing or crying, choose laughing… Nendou is such a pure soul, assuming that no one would want to end their own life on purpose.
Saiki won’t let him die <3 I am taking this as something sweet.
So… can Saiki hear people’s memories in these flashbacks? Or are they supposed to be fourth wall breaks? Both? I’m going with both. Rather than being like a movie, Saiki experiences flashbacks as though he were observing the person in the past (in other words, like he was really there.) That’s my take.
Also, Saiki has a ton of empathy. He just doesn’t show it. Like, this random guy (who ostensibly doesn’t have much going for him) tries to kill himself, and Saiki’s reaction is to compare his struggles in a way that makes sense to him; in video game terms. And he wants to save him and to help him. And he does.
Very mature of this random man, who a few hours ago was trying to fling himself off of a building, and a few minutes ago was talking about how he was too good for street performance. Had Nendou not intervened, I honestly don’t think he would have had the guts to do it…
Wow, I don’t know why this chapter is provoking my annoyance so bad. Hm. Well, maybe I do, but my Saiki k fan blog is no place for that.
In any case, it’s nice that Asou sensei gave this character a good ending (helped along by Saiki, of course.) Everyone deserves a chance to live a good life and do something that they enjoy. And being bad at something isn’t a crime. It’s just not a good idea to rely on income for something if you’re not that good at it (and not willing and/or able to work to get better.) Life lessons, I guess? Except it’s kind of undermined by Saiki. Which is a lesson in it of itself; sometimes fate intervenes and success comes regardless, I guess. Yeah, that’s an alright note to end on.
Another life lesson which is really profound— sometimes, all you need is one person to tell you that your work connected with them. Sometimes, that really is enough.
The only difficulty?? Saiki, you’re forgetting someone, aren’t you? A certain blue spiky haired, chihuahua sized someone who has a bold fake personality and a timid real one?
Aaaaand Saiki had turned this guy into Taylor Swift. fabulous.
Uh?? Translator error? He has 10 thousand copies, not ten million, right? Wait, why the hell am I wondering about this. I have the volume now and I can read Japanese numbers. let me check. Ok, it reads ハ… ハイ一万枚ありますから!(ha… hai ichi manmai arimasu kara!)
一万枚 (ichi manmai) = ten thousand.
ten million would be 千万 (sen man)
so yes, translation error. Translator probably got confused because 10 million yen is the amount of debt he has.
Honest to god this is one of the most fascinating tidbits about his powers and also an absolute crime that they left this out. I mean, I know why they did. But they should have stuck this detail about him projecting what’s stuck in his head somewhere in the anime, but they didn’t. It implies that to some degree Saiki’s telepathy isn’t always voluntary. And also that he doesn’t necessarily pick one person and beam thoughts into their heads. Hm. much to think about…
they were already discussing goods by the end of volume 1?! Well… Saiki k certainly did get merch in the end. I just wonder how much of it Asou sensei actually got money from, considering he didn’t get anything from the anime.
Alright, that concludes my review of the final chapter in this volume. Ja mata ne. end of 1-8💫

Australia 2024 qualifying analysis
I'm not going to waste time with an intro, let's get into what happened. Won't be covering everyone but will be going over the big things of note.
Max P1 Carlos P2 and Lando P3 are the top three in qualifying.
Charles: So what happened to Charles?
Charles is good at qualifying and he's been flying around this track, so for him not to be in the top 3 that is a sign something went wrong.
And yes conditions with the car and I suspect the track were not ideal for him during quali.
Rear wing - Ferrari went with a single bar rear wing for FP3 and quali, this changed the balance and thus some other set up elements needed to be changed to compensate. I suspect they did this change because they are trying to create less drag for the race. Possibly in anticipation of not getting a lot of DRS
Front wing shift: Change the balance if the rear you have to change the front. Charles apparently requested a very aggressive front(makes sense) but it seems that was an over correction and that led to the car being less predictable. A less aggressive approach would probably have been more suited to the quali conditions.
Track conditions: wind and temperature differences in addition to the tyre wear and the change in tyre pressure all are contributing factors for why he might have lost grip on certain corners. With low drag and low traction that easily could create the conditions Charles described as being both oversteer and understeer. Like once a slide happens the car can easily do this.
Driver error: also have to acknowledge that Charles isn't perfect and he didn't have time to do the best he was capable of yesterday. It happens.
All this being said, the Ferrari and Charles had the best race pace during free practice, and that rear wing change might pay off for the race.
Charles qualified P5 but will be starting P4 due to Sergio's grid penalty
Carlos: He put in some good laps. Lost a good chunk of time on turn 10 to Max. But I will say I am impressed with his performance given he is still recovering from surgery.
Sergio: Sergio qualified P3 but took a 3 place grid penalty for impeding Hulkenberg's flying lap during quali. It seems this was more a failure of his team to inform him that a car was coming up behind. He will be starting P6.
Lewis and Yuki: The big upset of quali was Yuki knocking Lewis out of Q3. Very exciting for Yuki, and damning for Mercedes. Because that is Lewis Hamilton in that car, the Mercedes has not had the setup this weekend, and they have been struggling for any real straight line pace all season.
Yuki really is proving he is the top driver at VCARB and that was an impressive lap from him.
I also don't think Mercedes thought they needed to worry and possibly didn't push too hard. That yes they were low but the chances of a mid field car knocking them out was not high. Well Yuki proved them wrong. Some of this comes from underestimating Yuki(never underestimate Yuki).
Esteban: Esteban really surprised us all getting that Alpine into Q2. Given how many problems with pace and weight the Alpine has had that is just some solid driving from him.
Alex: Alex did put in a good performance for qualifying being the only Williams on the field. He got the car pretty close to the points and was competitive with the rest of the midfield. Hopefully this translates to good results for the race. So far it looks like he is delivering for Williams this weekend.
Mercedes: Mercedes was shockingly bad. There is something fundamentally wrong not just with the setup but the entire design philosophy. They have two talented drivers who are simply not able to compete because the car does not have the straight line speed. It struggled a lot during free practice, so it isn't surprising that both Mercs are so low, but it is not a promising look for the car as a whole.
Zhou: Zhou had probably the hardest quali. He damaged his front wing on the curb of turn 10 and that really cost him any hope of having a good time. Stake also did not have a spare front wing for him, so he will have to start from the pitlane and run with a damaged front wing. Not only was his quali compromised his race will be as well.

Hello! I hope you are doing well :)
(I needed help from a translator to write this, I apologize for the errors that this text will probably have)
Firstly, I would like to express my admiration for you. I cultivated it through reading the criticisms so well placed by you about the universe of ACOTAR.
I, having had a very intense relationship with reading over the years, was starting to despair after reading the first three ACOTAR books because I felt very alone when I realized that apparently there were almost no real critical analyzes (that I had found) about this book saga. It was then that I found Tumblr and, along with it, some very interesting profiles that talked about what I wanted to talk about. Yours was one of them.
My experience with ACOTAR is quite complex. When I first heard about it (given its growing fame), I loved the plot, as I love reading fantasy. I cultivated expectations on my own, but I also place this on fame and people's enthusiasm (and hatred) for some characters that I will later mention. So I read it… and damn, I was so disappointed after the second book. I fell off the horse completely, as some would say here where I live. I couldn't believe how SJM started to fail so much with the entire initial proposal of the books and how she managed to fail in developing characters and plots with so much potential. Furthermore, the romanticization of abuses, retcons, plot holes, catchphrases to deceive readers, narratives conflicting with actions, failure to make clear the biased narrative... among many other things. But one of the things that shocked me the most was how, to this day, many people fail to see certain FACTS and the FAULTS in all of this, their only reactions when these are pointed out are irrational responses in defense of this created illusion. Rhysand is the most disappointing character I've ever read in my life, perhaps because I see the potential that could be used in him, Sarah's true protagonist (this is just one of the things that completely annoy me about the author and, consequently, the character).
I could cite MANY examples of the flaws I mentioned, as you mentioned throughout your posts, but one thing that really bothers me is the way the characters and the fandom itself treat Nesta, trapped in the blind illusion that everything that IC does is the right thing, since that's what they think and say. It's really disgusting. I don't know why in the world I deluded myself into thinking that Nesta being the protagonist of Silver Flames would improve anything by knowing her critical perspective on the IC and things in general, since she is not very influential and very observant. I honestly don't know why I did this to myself, knowing what SJM did with the previous books.
Tamlin and Nesta are sensitive points for me, being the main characters that led me to, in fact, have an increasingly critical view of these books (they were my critical awakening). I realized that one of the main common points that makes me upset is the way Rhysand deals with them, just like he deals with anyone: the way he wants, without reprimands (sometimes it's even encouraged). As if it were his right.
I understand that Rhysand's relationship with each of them has different complex layers, especially with Tamlin as it is a story that has been developing for much longer and is something personal to Rhysand AND Tamlin (in contrast to Nesta, who had never done anything for him), although there are very superficial mentions of it in proportion to how much Rhys gets involved and returns to it throughout the books (some would say that he simply needs to have Tamlin in his life constantly because of the way he always finds a way to mention it him or go see him, he can't let go). I have A LOT of things to say about this, but I'm summarizing.
About Nesta, someone very young in comparison and who was hated by Rhys before he even met her. He didn't even give her a chance to observe her a little or ask her anything. I would think he should be intelligent and more mature because of his age and how he likes to show that he knows how to handle things, but that's not what his actions show in most of the books.
Sometimes I think he picks on Nesta and Tamlin so much because they are the only ones who actually stand up to him, question him and throw his actions in his face. They don't accept his stance easily and they have the courage to respond accordingly. They are the big stones in his expensive and nocturne shoes.
I'm not going to start talking too much about Feyre per se, but I would like to point out that I hate with all my mental strength the daemati shipp feysand and I hope in a childish way that they fictionally read this in my mind. In my view, they have absolutely nothing good or remotely interesting to add and develop from each other. Rhysand calls them equals in every way, but he always knows things and chooses what to say to her as is convenient for him. He tells her she has a choice, but he is the only one who provides the options he wants her to choose. Feyre stopped questioning, she believes anything he says from the start. She even stopped analyzing her own actions. He gives her a false appearance of power and she pretends that she knows how to use it. On the first opportunity to introduce her to the CoN, he undermines any kind of respect they could develop for her, whether through fear (as stupid and lame as that may be) or what. Her personality was an ocean and since she started dating Rhys, the ocean had become a shallow puddle of mud. It seems that the trend is getting worse, seeing as how SJM has been showing us who her main character is. Feyre was a means to the end, nothing about her position in this saga was constructed in a decent way, unfortunately. Rhys does what he wants and doesn't have the limits he should have, bringing this to Feyre when in Summer he tells Tarquin that she does whatever she wants, without thinking about the consequences, just because she carries a title that Rhys gave to her. She can do what she wants because HE is saying so. It's not about Feyre, as the catchphrase makes it seem. This is not a moment taken to glorify her in front of others. At this moment Rhysand wants to show and prove his power to another male who should have the same authority as him, Tarquin. This guy's ego, seriously.
Anyway, amidst so many opinions about the things I'm curious to know, I'd like to ask what you think is the REAL reason for Rhys' growing dislike towards Nesta (and Tamlin too, if you want. I I don't buy the superficiality with which the whole thing about the murder of their families was told, but that's just me pondering). And the possibilities surrounding Nesta and Rhysand's complex relationship, expectations and even what you would have changed. If you want to respond, of course.
Today I found myself reflecting on this specifically and I'm still putting things together in my head, so I decided to share this question with you.
This “message” was much longer than I expected, I ended up getting carried away and had to stop myself from saying more. At this point, I don't even judge if you haven't read it, hehe. I appreciate it anyway if you read any part of this.
Anyway, thank you very much for sharing your analysis. I feel so represented with them! I will continue to follow you here, XD
Xx, Tess
Awwww I got teary reading this message! Thank you so much, Tess! And I agree with so much of what you’ve said here! This book series crumbles under the slightest bit of analysis, and I’m glad so many of us have started to realize that. I’m glad you feel represented here and ill definitely continue to be here :)

speaking of your turn to die i need your turn to die mutuals you don't understand it's a need
so here are some your turn to die opinions and if you agree with them i'd love to be your homie! i promise i have lots of headcanons and goofy jokes and badly constructed essays.
spoilers for your turn to die up to 3-1b!
my top favorite characters of all time are reko, nao, kai, and jou! honorable mentions are kanna, gin, q-taro, sara, and shin!
i'm honestly not a massive fan of any of the floor masters or dolls in 3-1 purely because i feel like i didn't get the chance to know them well. it's a real shame too because i think they're super cool! just not quite fleshed out enough to my liking. i'm hoping we at least learn more about the floor masters in the finale because they have the potential to be so interesting!
i don't really like shipping in your turn to die, i kinda think it's unnecessary (though i don't hate on people who do ship!), but if i had to pick a ship i like, it would be reko x nao! i think it could be cute, and they have a lot of sweet moments in the game!
my favorite part of your turn to die to play is hands down 2-1. those attractions are so much fun! and all the mystery is insane, the part with the fake mishima ai was INSANEE. i also really liked 3-1 because of the part where you use the lantern to uncover people's memories about hiyori and asu-naro. it was so cool to get a glimpse of people's pasts!
to be honest i'm kind of a noob so i can never get it straight which route is logic is which is emotion (even though it's probably really obvious), but my favorite route is the one where kanna and reko live! i watched a playthrough of a route where shin lives but i didn't really like it as much, even though it was interesting to see that side of it!
this isn't really an opinion, just a confession, but i'm really dumb and really bad at the logic stuff so i lowkey thought it was impossible to save reko for the first like three years of playing the game...i figured it out though!
i've never once used a walkthrough to figure out your turn to die, i've always just used my own brain to figure things out. maybe...uh...maybe in hindsight, that's why it took me so long to figure out how to save reko...
the only character in the entire franchise that i genuinely dislike is keiji. i just think he's kinda creepy and off-putting (though that might be in part due to translation errors)? also i'm lesbian so i don't really find him hot i think he just looks like a muscly piece of popcorn.
in terms of my opinion on who the "mastermind" is i actually have literally no idea? the only idea i kind of have is that it's either sara or keiji because they're the only two who we don't get to see how they signed the asu-naro vow. but i also don't really get how it would be either of them because keiji was a victim of hiyori's tricks too, and sara just seems totally clueless. it makes my brain hurt to think about so i kinda choose not to.
i think the "gin is the mastermind" theory is mind-bogglingly stupid. sorry LMAO-
i think the theory of jou being the son of mr. policeman is actually super cool! i don't really know why it exists but i've seen people talking about it and i think that would be a cool connection.
i've read a few things about the referendum theory and i think it's a cool theory! it kinda make sense, though there are a few holes that i can't logic my way through quite yet. it seems very plausible though, and it would make for an interesting plot!
i don't think shin is overrated at all. he's a super interesting character and i love how he contributes to the story, and all the twists about him are so unique and exciting! i do hate when people water him down to like a soggy little man who's super weak and innocent, though. the coolest thing about him is his fortitude!
in case it wasn't obvious, i am on team "q-taro is the goat", especially after 3-1b. even after accidentally getting the ending where q-taro abandoned all of us i was like "okay but that was lowkey cunty af of him..." i've always been on homie q-taro's side and i also think it's hilarious that he's like supposed to be an american stereotype.
anyway that's all i can think of! i hope some of y'all wanna be friends!!

I see blogs like this and I'm happy that you're able to reconcile being gay with Mormonism but how?
I am an ex-Protestant who used to be devoted. I think the Bible is very clear on homosexuality and it's not positive. Perhaps the 'boy shall not lay with man' verse was an error of translation—according to the argument that I've seen—but are you going to say that about the story of Sodom and Gomorrah + Paul's infamous verse, where he mentions homosexuals in the list of the wicked who will not inherit the Kingdom of God? The specific verse is 1 Corinthians 6:9.
Knowing what I know, I would feel very conflicted if I were gay (I'm bisexual) and seeking to be authentically religious. Now, if you're choosing to be celibate, then forget what I said.
But what about those who want to embrace their same-sex attraction and get into relationships/fornicate with the same sex? Wouldn't that create some cognitive dissonance somewhere? Jesus said that he will spit out the lukewarm, for they are neither hot nor cold and that he would prefer that they would be either.
That's why I chose to leave altogether. Without the religious blinders on, I can look at the text from a secular perspective and understand that the texts reflected their time period. That homosexuality was discouraged, not necessarily because it was objectively "evil" but because it would harm society or something to let it run rampant.
This was a whole ramble. It's just strange to see others just embracing themselves AND being religious, while I've had to battle with a lot of inner conflict because of this.
So, how do you do it without feeling 'fake'?
To say I've reconciled being gay and Christian is a bit too strong, I'd say it's a struggle.
One way I try to make it work is to really look at the clobber verses of the Bible that are used against gay people. I do not think they say what a lot of people assume they do. You're welcome to look at what I've posted about those verses. Here's one on the 'don't lie with man as with a woman.' You mentioned Sodom, a classic example of people reading it with the assumption they already know what it's about and missing the real point of the story. And then there's Paul, and people love to say he was against gay sex, but they fail to heed many of his other words such as that he wishes nobody had sex and if you can't hack that then get married.
I don't expect everyone to agree with those interpretations of the scriptures, but I do hope it provokes some thinking. Why do we accept the idea that being gay is a sin, but we disregard other things in the Bible that would crimp our modern lifestyle?
The Bible includes many things we reject today, such as slavery and women as property. Christians take Christ's teaching that the greatest commandments are to love God, and to love others as yourself, and use that to reinterpret what's in the Bible. Are things like slavery Biblical? Yes. Are they Christlike? No.
This is the community I was raised in. I know the goodness of the people, and I also know the cruelty that's been done in the name of their religious beliefs. I try to use the language of religion to counter the bigotry directed towards gay people and to show the overarching themes of the gospel are love, inclusion, doing good to others, looking out for each other, and so on. Homophobia and transphobia don't fit with those themes.
I'm glad you've had a chance to view the church's teachings and the Bible verses from a secular viewpoint and been able to remove that dissonance from your life. Most queer people leave Christianity. I think it's sad that when someone comes out as queer that people assume it's just a matter of time before they leave their church, because that says a lot about the church, there's a problem there and wish more Christians recognized it.
I can't fix my church or Christianity. But I can share my thoughts and story and in that way I hope builds some understanding.
I wish you peace and happiness

Alright I need to destress AND kickstart my memory of nnt so! Gonna do a rewatch and write out some thoughts (inspired by @spacehostilityy and their rewatch posts, go check 'em out! 💜)
Gonna be using the tag #amber rewatches nnt btw ^^
Also might talk about Eternal a bit idk yet but keep in mind the rewatch is also to help me write that 😅 also also doing each post by episode because I ramble far too much at every little thing.
Enjoy the rambles!
Masterpost
Episode 1
Honest to god forgot about those flying sting ray things, and especially forgot they're one of the first things we see in the show!
The art? For the opening sequence?? Is so cool????
Like those things that can shapeshift in the forest Diane hides in are in there? And MAYBE Gerheade? Idk about her but one of the fairies look a LOT like her/has a dress very similar to the one we see her wear AND she's bigger than the other fairies
And are there any demons with feathered wings besides the blue bird like things? Because if not there's an armored character with wings like the goddesses (who only have 1 pair of wings in the art) on the DEMON side. Probably just digging into this too deep, but it'd be REALLY cool if that was foreshadowing Estarossa/Mael
I really wish Elizabeth had muscles and wasn't CONSTANTLY portrayed as being physically pretty weak (at least that's how it comes across to me - in fights she's constantly told to run/is never given any chance TO fight physically). Because she literally can't be?
Like Elizabeth has been walking REAL FAR in that armor and it is DEFINITELY not light. Do you know the strength she'd have to have to move that? She also slumps in it and her footsteps are slow/small so it IS weighing her down but the fact that she can move in it as far as she has - and probably up and down hills too without falling - is impressive
Anyway reminder to myself to show Elizabeth being physically strong in my fics from now on. This is canon now and no one can fight me.
Also the shot of Elizabeth on the hill in the armor with the sun glaring through?? It's such a gorgeous shot??????
Meliodas may be a shit cook but damn is he a pretty good server
Like mans got the entire tavern full and he's serving it basically alone cause Hawk cleans the scraps doesn't serve people booze and every customer is pretty happy and having fun (until they have the food lol)
I FORGOT HAWKS TAG SAID STAR BOAR AAAAASJDJFJDHF
Wonder at which point in time the whole telling your children "if you keep misbehaving one of the seven deadly sins will come for you in armor that's rusty from blood" because it HAD to be in the past 10 years, right? Unless people were saying that while they were still respected holy knights in which case,,,, ooof
But I'd assume a little after Zaratras was first killed
But also I wouldn't put it past this dude maybe coming up with it to scare his children lol he seems like a tired dad type
And here comes all the parts I hate
The groping and sexualization
Elizabeth is like. Fucking 16. And Meliodas DEFINITELY knows that. And just. Ugh
I do like Elizabeth in this color tho- the dark blue really suits her! It's why her uniform post-Meliodas' death is my favorite of all her outfits
How many talking pigs are there in Britannia??? Because Hawk's from purgatory and I figured THAT was why he could talk
And many other people get super confused/shocked by Hawk talking so it can't be common
When Elizabeth said with the most dejected face "no" after he asked if her father got her a talking pig Meliodas looked momentarily like "that bitch."
Let's be real he would've totally gotten her a talking pig somehow
Then he instant switches the conversation to try making her feel better 💜💜💜💜
I'm sorry, the order of WHAT?
"the Order of the Beard of the Mountain Cat"
Is this a translation error? Because if not... I have found my new favorite order and I am no longer worried about naming things in my own stories with ridiculous things
(also btw I watch in Japanese with English subs)
Wonder how the Boar Hat got so popular in this town in a matter of days. Like the booze is good sure but how tf did people find that out and who was the first person courageous enough to go poking around
Yknow. I'm surprised they didn't believe Hawk was the rust knight. I mean, the people who reported it had to be drunk right? Who's to say they weren't so drunk they mistook a pig in armor as the rust knight?
Damn Elizabeth is pretty agile! She's running across roots and jumping over things pretty efficiently!
Like as clumsy as she is, she still got some skills that they NEVER UTILIZE!
Also YOU CAN SEE THE FRAME MELIODAS GRABS HER AND JUMPS WITH HER I- HOW DID I NEVER CATCH THAT???!!
THAT SONG IN THE BG UUGGHHGHGHG
THIS ONE. I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. MY HEART.
I forget if we go over how Hawk and Meliodas met/how far we go into their backstory
Like is he in on Meliodas being a Sin/previous Holy Knight or does he really just not know? (because there's no way Meliodas isn't at least a little wary of Holy Knights himself, hiding for 10 years no matter how in plain sight he is)
I mean. Elizabeth. Sweetheart. Your dad IS laid up in bed sick. It just so happens that the holy knights ALSO arrested the rest of your family and refuse to get your dad help (I think? Cause Merlin has to magically treat the king for his illness later and I assume the holy knights would be wary of letting a doctor treat him. Maybe Vivian was treating him?)
Unless Elizabeth didn't know her father was sick. In which case. Oooooooof. What a reunion later if that's true
Meliodas 🤝 Zuko : "That's rough buddy"
I forget what crime Merlin committed, because Elizabeth says the Sins are "composed of seven terrible criminals" unless she's not actually a criminal when they formed at least
Ahhh that's right, Elizabeth probably wouldn't remember the sins well because they had to leave when she was 6-
Although I wonder if Meliodas also tried to make himself scarce around her once she got to the age where she would retain memories better to avoid the curse activating somehow? Because I have a shit memory but most people do tend to remember things, even vaguely, from the ages 3-6 (my friends and I all have our earliest memory around 2-3)
Meliodas stiff as a board falling when Twigo attacked lmao-
It does make me happy to see some knights in Britannia, even if they're not Holy Knights, try to confront Holy Knights. Sure they backtrack but like, who wouldn't in the face of that power?
Twigo got awesome eyesight to see Elizabeth's earring from that far, nevermind it's DESIGN. Like damn I got 20/20 vision but I doubt I'd ever SPOT that
I was gonna say how tf did Allioni realize it was Meliodas/how would he see Meliodas' tattoo but going back his shirt was already ripped in that general area so! Continuity win!
He be shitting his pants too lol man was holding the most dangerous Sin up and yelling in his face, and he's SEEN what the sins can do
Wonder if he retired after this. I wouldn't blame him
PERFECT TIME KICKING IN WOOOOOOO
Also Twigo recognizes his face? And says "how can you look exactly the same as you did that day" Was he the old guard that showed Allioni the Sins' carnage? Or was he a Holy Knight that survived that attack?
I guess he also could've just been an apprentice Holy Knight too that recognized him but asking that question to me hints that Twigo tried fighting the Sins with everyone else
Netsujou no Spectrum is such a great song too. The NNT soundtrack is amazing
Is the tavern a recent development for Meliodas??? What was he up to before getting the tavern but after going into hiding?
This also brings up how I really don't remember what time in his backstory he meets Hawk. I just remember they met in jail
This town is in the boonies Twigo how long do you expect this trio to wait until you can not only get a message to the capital, but receive reinforcements??
Mama Hawk best murderer
Oh nvm she missed :/
"Was our meeting chance or Providence?" man I wish I could say for sure it was chance and she got damn lucky (it'd be cool imo to explore how things would've gone if she'd found one of the others first) but. With the curse and all... There's a VERY good chance it was Providence
"I hope it's a real one this time" - Gilthunder
Okay so... When does he get in contact with King then? I'm pretty sure we SEE them interact around Ban escaping Baste but like. Gilthunder would have to know that's where King was before that. When do the Holy Knights find and make a deal with King?
And that's my thoughts going through Episode One!
Don't know how often I'm gonna do these, maybe after Wednesday I'll do a lot more? Idk we'll see
If you made it this far, you're awesome! Lmk who your favorite character is and I'll do a quick drawing of them for you if you want 💜

Candle (Rosenali)
Here’s a “six sentence Sunday” even though it’s not six sentences. Thanks for supporting my decision to write stupid shit @sexynetra you’re the real MVP (also I keep forgetting to text you when I post things so I’m keeping myself out of trouble)
So here’s a silly little thing for you all. Happy Sunday, stay hydrated

Rosie,
I just found this brand and it’s amazing, you need to light it as soon as you get it! Can’t wait to hear what you think ;)
-D
The package comes as a surprise to Rosé after a very long day at school. The box holds a little candle with a simple, pastel blue label. She pops it open and is delighted by a blue wax heart melted into the top of it. And the smell? Even without lighting it she’s happy to have it. It smells like a sunset, like golden hues and the comfort of a home. Somehow, it’s exactly what she needed. There’s something about Denali knowing these things before she does that makes her cheeks flush, and she pulls out her phone to distract herself.
Just got your package, she types hurriedly. Lighting it right now. Just what I needed, thank you baby <3
The spring musical is fast approaching and while her cast is catching on quickly to the choreography, they’re not yet at par with the kids of years’ past. She’s been waiting for a long time to direct The Sound of Music, and while she’s excited to see the end result it feels like she’s having to go through a trial-and-error process of teaching in order to get some of the kids in line. She’d lost a lot of talent with graduation; there’s hope, sure, but there’s also a lot of hands-on work that needs to be done in order to shape this cast into her standard of work. Fun, chill teacher Rosé gets put on the back burner a bit during musical season. This is director Rosé’s time to shine.
Which brings her to working on things for choir and theory at home. Her planning periods have turned into musical planning; working through what the set will look like, taking phone calls to ensure the children she’d casted to fit into the younger Von Trapp roles will be okay with their slots of rehearsal time…she’s getting everything done, just in intervals of ten-to-thirteen-hour days instead of just eight.
Tonight is no different.
She stretches out on the couch just as the end credits of her current tv binge scroll along the screen. She’s not sure how long she drifted off for, only that the gorgeous, spiced vanilla scent has permeated the entire room, engulfing it in warmth and familiarity. Carding her fingers through her unruly curls, she sighs as she rises from the couch. The weight of the days has hit hard, and although she has a few ungraded papers on the coffee table and a plate left out from her lazy dinner of random leftovers, all Rosé wants to do is turn off the day. Tomorrow will be a new chance to get her cast in line, and maybe she can spend her planning period finding a reason not to cancel the entire show.
This time of night is particularly cathartic; she walks a lap around the apartment, shutting shades and folding blankets, leaving dishes in the sink for tomorrow (because honestly? It’s only a few weeks until tech week. She hears the Goatherd song in her head all day long. Saving the dishes for tomorrow is the only way to save her mental sanity). She bends over to blow out her new candle and suddenly, she’s very awake. The little blue heart has melted away, revealing a set of carefully placed friendship bracelet beads. She blinks, thinking that the message is an illusion caused by her lack of sleep. The letters don’t budge. And so, there’s a bunch of tiny glass beads around the wick asking ‘sit on my face.’
She feels the curve of a smirk at her cheeks and she’s shaking her head, pulling out her phone to take a photo.
Really? She texts Denali, hoping that her silly eye roll will translate through her typing. I thought that was your job.
Denali 10:30 pm
What if I wanted to try something new?
Rosé’s in the middle of a witty response when Denali’s text bubble pops up again.
Denali 10:31 pm
Also, they didn’t have one that said ‘I want to sit on your face.’ I’m pretty sure that’s too many letters for one candle.
Rosé 10:31 pm
And no manners.
Denali 10:33 pm
So specific.
Pain in my ass.
Okay, so even though it’s way too many letters I guess it should have said ‘please sit on my face.’
Rosé 10:34 pm
That’s what I thought.
You can come over if you want.
I want you to.
Rosé 10:36 pm
This candle smells like you.
She hits send before she can chicken out, tossing her phone face down on the couch. This is totally normal behavior for friends, right? Friends with benefits? But she’d never put Denali in that category; lately, the benefits have been movie nights and wine tastings and sleepovers that last multiple days. They’ve been sharing clothes, she’s been helping with Donut…she’s not sure how it happened, but she’s not able to stop herself from any of it. She can’t even bring herself to say no to the blonde even if she’d just been about to go to bed. Everyone’s teasing is absolutely right; she’s completely undeniably whipped.
Denali 10:37 pm
That’s the point, Rosita ;)
I’m glad you like it.
I’m on my way.
#Rosenali#the teacher au#sometimes you scroll through reels (bc I’m a millennial everyone chill) and something comes up you can not ignore#This is a REAL candle from a REAL company and the second i saw their ad i just knew#Alexa play Light My Candle from Rent#Also my iPad keyboard is slowly dying I can’t type an exclamation point or a one or a two it’s been real devastating to my writing career

Watching/Rewatching/Planning to Watch List
Thanks for the tag! @scarefox
So, currently watching:
Between Us: Swim team hunks hooking up & catching feelings with a ridiculous number or side dishes. I liked WinTeam in UWMA and was thrilled when they announced this. So far, it hasn't disappoined, even though I'm not crazy about all the side pairings.
My Tooth Your Love: The first and only dentist bl. It completely took me by surprise with its mature approach to queer relationships, great chemistry between the leads and honest potrayal of mental health issues, but that's Taiwan for you.
My Schoool President: A priviliged Scrabble-loving nerd pining for a clueless scrappy little terrier with a guitar. He then gets a chance to help hus crush to fulfill his musical dream but in true high school bl fashion decides to go about it in the most complicated way possible. I don't love all the singing tbh, but it has so much heart and charm that I'm willing to look past it.
I Will Knock You: A literal child leading a vintage-themed street gang full of adults is determined to win over a certain girl's heart. A nervous tutor who's booksmart but also painfully stupid when it comes to surviving in the real world manages to catch the attention of the wannabe-thug at the worst possible moment after bitter rejection. Fate then leads our fearful-yet-determined boy to become the baby-gangster's tutor. This show is weird in that 60% of the time one of the leads looks like the other one is pouring cold yoghurt down his back but somehow it still translates as chemistry. It's ridiculously campy yet impossibly charming. I do think it would benefit from shorter episodes, though, some scenes just drag on unnecessarily imo.
Happy Ending Romance: Honestly, I'm still on the fence with this one. A promising novelist ruffles the wrong feathers and gets shunned by the whole Korean publishing industry. His friend, also a writer, takes him in and they date?? I guess?? It's very vague on that front so far. Then a perpetually optimistic wannabe-publisher with a failing start-up approaches the blacklisted novelist wanting to publish his next book. The set-up is promising but the flow is kind of weird, and I have no idea which pairing to root for so far.
Planning to watch:
Reborn Rich
Never Let Me Go
Gap the Series
609 Bedtime Stories
Strangers from Hell
Alice in Borderland S2
Moonlight Chicken
What's that one bl coming next week... Candy Paradox something? I'm on my phone and I'm afraid if I switch apps to check, I have to write this all over again
The upcoming Utsukushii Kare sequel movie
Cherry Magic movie
I'm sure there are more but I can't remember atm
Recently rewatched/finished:
Semantic Error (movie cut)
My Beautiful Man
Choco Milk Shake
HIStory: Trapped
Light on Me
Beyond Evil
Big Dragon

The Future of Communication: English to Telugu Translation for a Globalized World
Visualize a world where there are no language hurdles and people from all over the world can easily communicate with each other. It’s not science fiction; it’s the future, and translation, especially English to Telugu Translation, is what makes it work. Let’s talk about how this technology is going to change the way people talk to each other and open up a world of new opportunities.
Breaking Down Walls, Building Bridges:
India has a huge number of different languages, and Telugu is the second most common one there. More than 75 million people speak it as their first language, making it a lively community with a rich culture history. In a world that is becoming more and more linked, Telugu has a lot of promise for connection. However, language hurdles often stand in the way of people getting knowledge, chances, and important relationships.
In this case, translation from English to Telugu is very helpful and acts as a strong link.
Business Boom: Imagine that correct versions make it easy for foreign companies to serve the Telugu market, building trust and love among millions of people.
Educational Equity: Imagine that students who speak Telugu could access a vast amount of information through translated school materials, giving them the tools they need to succeed on a global level.
Healthcare for All: Imagine that healthcare professionals could talk to patients in their own language, making sure that they get the right diagnosis, improving the result of their treatment, and encouraging cultural awareness.
Global Collaboration: Imagine artists, researchers, and pros working together across countries. Real-time translation tools would let their ideas flow easily, leading to ground-breaking new products and services.
These are just hints of what the future will be like, when people who know Telugu will be able to join the global conversation.
Technology’s Empowering Touch:
The progress made in translation technology is what makes this change possible. The formulas used for machine translation are changing quickly, making the texts more accurate and complex. Neural networks and other tools are learning the complexities of language by recording not only words but also cultural background and mood.
But tech by itself isn’t enough. Human knowledge is still very important. Professional translators make sure that the material that is translated speaks to the right people by learning both languages and their cultural details. This combination of technology and human knowledge is what will make conversation possible in the future.
Beyond Words: Embracing Nuances:
It’s not enough to just translate words; you need to get to the heart of the matter and understand how someone feels. Understanding regional differences is very important for English to Telugu translation to really work.
Regional Dialects: Telugu has many different regional languages. By adapting versions to different areas, cultural meaning is maintained and errors are avoided.
Honorifics and Respect: Telugu culture values respect and has its own set of honorifics. To keep up with social rules, translations must take these culture norms into account.
Idioms and Proverbs: When words are translated literally, they often sound strange or make no sense. Translators have to find words that are culturally fitting for the message they want to get across.
Looking Ahead: A World Connected
Multilingual contact is the way of the future, and English to Telugu Translation is an important part of that. We can make a world where language hurdles don’t stop people from learning or taking advantage of chances by improving technology and being more aware of other cultures. Imagine a world where people who know Telugu are involved in the global conversation, sharing their unique points of view and making life better for everyone. We can build this kind of future, one in which translation makes it possible for people to talk to each other across countries.

More reviewing
It's been quite a long while (I lost my glasses for about a month when our luggage got lost in the airport, so that excuses it a bit), but I finally read the next book on my list of Disney's Twisted Tales series books to read. This time it was "So This is Love" by Elizabeth Lim (though for some reason the first pages of the Finnish copy I got from library claim it was written by Liz Braswell, can't remember if it was correct elsewhere in the book, I took a photo only of this one page).
Anyway, there's not much that would make me rant about this book, it was the most competent out of the ones (so, just 3) I've read so far. The only noticeable (or one that stuck out to me for a bit longer to remember it) translation error for me was how at one point Cinderella was talking about how her dog got the name Bruno because of his brown coat, but it was translated as one would "jacket", so it confused me for a bit like "Wait, who is she talking about now?/Why would a dog wear a jacket?" until I realized that she meant his fur.
The only real plot relevant thing that annoyed me was the fact that in this book Prince Charming was given the name Charles... Like, Prince Charles. Uuuggh, did you have to?
Of course, there was also this one small thing in the story I really liked about how one of the reasons why
SPOILER WARNING
magic is prohibited in the Kingdom was because people feared fairies as there was a chance that an evil one could come over and curse newborn royal or noble children, it felt like a little nod to Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent.
There was also this thing that felt to me like it was probably caused by translation but I'm not sure, as whenever someone was discussing fairies, they only referred to them as female (the Fairy Godmother refers the sex of the fairy in the "godmother" part, but in Finnish the Fairy Godmother is called Haltijatarkummi, in which the sex is referred in the the "fairy" part, and the book kept using the world "haltijatar" (haltija "fairy/elf" (though also "owner/possessor", if you want a word that means just the magical beings, it should be "haltia" without the "j") with the "-tar/-tär" suffix which is similar to "-ess" or "-ette")). I'm assuming that in the original English version of this book this was not the case, but it's not that big a deal, just something that I found strange.
Also of note is that while these books are written as "what if" stories in which some small detail derails the rest of the story to new rails, in this one it was more like it followed the rails of the world changing aspect that I've noticed in these books, which is to de-anthropomorphize the animals from the Disney sidekick "human level intelligence" to "possibly only slightly more clever/aware than a regular animal" (this was also present in "A Whole New World", not so much in "Conceal, Don't Feel", though that might be because in that book Sven was the only animal sidekick, and he had already way more reduced anthropomorphing going on in the movie to begin with). Cinderella wasn't able to get out of the attic and try on the glass slipper because the mice didn't bring her the key to open the door like they did in the original 2D animated movie. It's also pretty curious how this story of "What if" is placing the moment of converging at the same moment as Cinderella 3: a Twist in Time (a good movie, recommend watching), yet the plots are very different (Though there were a few moments/scenes that made me wonder if the author had been somewhat inspired by that sequel. So far these books seem to consider only the movie they are based on itself as canon and any complimentary material is disregarded for the most part, maybe given a nod at most if the author is aware of them (in "A Whole New World" Aladdin's father's name is Cassim like in the King of Thieves, but on the other hand there were things that were contradictory with the Animated TV show, and in the latest book I'm currently reading "What Once was Mine" based on Tangled, it seems like the "twist" in this book was heavily influenced by "Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure"))
Anyhow, looks like I had some ranting (well, more like musing I guess...) to write after all. Also it seems I was a bit off last time when I said these books are targeted to 5th graders, though when I checked what the age demographic for them was when I was writing up my review for the last book Google said 9-13 year olds, but when I just now did that again it now says 12+... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Oh well...

@pobopolybius Why hello there! Glad you asked! I actually did some research on the TERF claim in the meantime, since the last thing I want is to accidentally defend incels again.
First, disclaimer:
I support women's right, and by extension feminism
I do not support TERF movement or any radical ideas that distorts true goal of feminism
I support freedom of speech
I do not support misandry and hate as freedom of speech
I do not support firing employees on short notice because of mob pressure
And now, let's get to the gist. You can skip this part and shit talk me anyway if you think this is too bothersome or doesn't fit in with your worldview :)
"The artist is not a TERF the incels said they chose to call her one so that westerners would get angry"
You've probably read the tweets that are going aroud as 'proof' of her being a TERF. I tried to get to the source myself to see the real things, but unfortunately I had no choice but to stick with what I have. (wayback machine didn't work. If anyone knows how to get the source of the images please let me know) Here is the translated tweets from someone on reddit. it's machine translated, so some of the nuances are lost in translation.
Yes, most of the tweets does not have or has very little value as proof. (and I just discovered that they included pro-abortion tweet in there which I find it stupid. Just because some scumbag said one right thing in their life doesn't mean it magically changes into wrong thing. Abortion rights ftw) However, I can say it with confidence that three of these certainy carries the rhetorics of Megalia-WOMAD, which is indeed a TERF community. (Here are some non-incel articles with actual in-depth research as to why they are such a big deal, and how they have ruined Korean feminism movement and escalated nationwide gender conflict for good: [X] [X] [X])
I know that these are just retweets and none of them are Vellmori's actual words, so I still can't figure out what her real opinion on these was. However, I can say for certain that she indeed had multiple exposures to TERF propaganda from her twitter mutuals in her teenage years.
This retweet was made in 2018, about an year after Megalia was shut down after causing series of public incidents and infighting(2017). By this time, Megalia's infamy was so widespread across the internet so there is very little chance that Vellmori didn't know about this.
But then again, she was still a teenager so we can't be sure if she really knew what she was retweeting.
("are you counting kimchi?" part is translation error.)
At first glance, this may sound like harmless joke towards men and razors, although the overall tone is a bit unnecessarily hostile (I can only assume that they tried to mirror the nasty things incels say about tampons or something). The word "냄성" , which is missing in the translated version due to error, is unmistakably the iconic slur used in Korean radfem community. and on top of that "Are you Kimchi?" at the end implies "You are a self-important incel who strokes one's ego by wasting money on expensive junks".
Again, this is just a retweet so we don't know Vellmori's real opinion on this. But there is no way she was completely oblivious about the TERF ideas behind the words.
And… this. the supposed "opposing illegal filming" rally that Vellmori supported. This is where many 'westerners' were fed with misinformation. All I can say that illegal filming issue was just a dogwhistle to give them some semblence of moral ground. Also, this protested is considered as one of the cause that drove Korea's gender conflict issue into the hellpit of TERF vs INCEL shitshow with very little grey area. I'll just provide you with some sources that will give you ideas as to how did this event unfold [1] [2] [3].
While this is the most solid proof that she was exposed to TERF ideas, I must admit that this has the loosest connection to Vellmori because this isn't a retweet but rather something that was sent to her by someone.
Perhaps she really thought she was doing something right without knowing the true nature of this protest? I have no idea. but seeing that the poster says this is already the 6th one, I don't think she had been that oblivious.
Conclusion: I can't verify her as a TERF, but there's no mistake that she was at least influenced by their idologies. To what degree? I don't know. We don't know until Vellmori officially voices her opinion herself. You can spew out as many accusations on me as you like, but I stand my ground on this: the so-called 'feminist' ideas she was fed with was NOT a healthy variant at all.
They also accused her of being a shotacon because Sinclair is not wearing a shirt on his skin when he's a grown ass man. Are you gonna take their word for that too?
I have never heard of such accusations running about from the sources I know. Please give me some links to it, even better if it didn't come from twitter.
Also, If you thought I'd accuse someone of being a shotacon, then fuck off. I've seen too many lolicon scumbags who purposely draw women to look like underage girls, just so they can claim "its a grown ass woman so it's not lolicon". I know for a certain that such accusation is not to be taken lightly at all.
So yeah, here's my research, and my opinion that followed. Fuck INCELs, Fuck TERFs, Fuck extremists who doxxes people with false propaganda. Fuck Project Moon for ruining their game's reputation and digging their own grave by firing someone in such haste manner.
I hope you are satisfied. Have a nice day. please block me and move on with your life. I have my own to take care of, and I don't want to go through another ideology check like this.
Lesson learned:
I was a fucking clown for standing up for DC people 🤡
Peehaps I had become too insensitive to their casual misogyny over the times I've visited the website for information.
Hopefully I wouldn't make same mistake again in my life.

long story, long problem.
I have always had this zeal of aesthetic study, real study, but after joining tumblr recently it has turned to fire. your blog is my favorite of all studyblrs here and i SO want to study like this. Please guide me where to start? These annotations, notes, texts and everything. As my new study year is just starting, so it would be the best time to start. Please?
hey! firstly, thank you, that's very kind! I'll do my best -
the mindset is so much of the battle that I reckon you're a long way there just by having the fire for it. I also don't know what stage of education you're at, and it's fair to say that some of my habits were built over an absolute lifetime of figuring out how my brain works best and how to sustain my energy and interest for a subject for as long as possible, so I think there's definitely a bit of trial and error to all of this - but it's nice to be able to embrace that, and try all sorts of different systems of note taking/different environments to work in/different working patterns before you figure yourself out completely.
I'll start with 'stuff', quote unquote. I strongly believe in the idea that you don't need any of the specialist equipment to get going, but I do have a few essentials that I absolutely couldn't do it without (again, cultivated over years of practise). after I finish my dissertation I'm thinking of making a bit of a 'shopping list' of the things I really love, but until then, I will say that I am a huge fan of:
a laptop stand/external keyboard/external mouse setup (the mouse is absolutely non-negotiable for me these days!) - altogether I reckon you could get these for less than £30 and they're just so good for posture, for your wrists, and, in the case of a laptop stand, for creating a little more space on your desk. if I was rich I would be a desktop person, I think.
a book stand to keep my texts open - again, borderline essential for a literature degree, because flipping between pages to try and copy out a quote is a nightmare
a set of great pencils (and a sharpener!) - I don't have the link for mine off the top of my head, but I have definitely linked them on my blog a couple of times. all my favourite stationery is from a site called Present and Correct
your perfect weekly/daily planner. I've said it a million times, for me it's the moleskine weekly planner in XL, soft cover, black - it's the perfect setup for dates/appointments/deadlines and notes/reading lists. I think I'm now on my 5th one.
I also own a clipboard, in case I need to annotate something and don't have a great surface to do it on, which has been surprisingly helpful in the past
and in the old exam days I used to keep a stack of A3 paper for mindmaps and posters, gives more space to stretch out on the page
for motivation, I recommend the following
a great classical music playlist - the older I get, the more I really believe that you can't concentrate properly with lyrics or words. This is mine, named for the latin poet that I used to find it hardest to translate - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45dPd6VqZIKUeb3mMOXDFo?si=57f20604516e4ceb
white noise!!! if I don't feel like I'm on an airplane, I'm not gonna get anything done. this is my favourite (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co7KgV2edvI&t=4616s) but I also like brown noise and celestial noise. I play this, and my playlist, at the same time through my big headphones, and then there's no chance I'm gonna hear anything to be distracted by (but be a little careful about this, I've got no proof that it hasn't damaged my hearing...)
figure out your working rhythm. somewhere down the line I learnt that I concentrate best at 6am - it's a bummer, but I'll get two or three times as much done between 6 and 10, and that just is what it is. For you it might be after lunch, or early evening, or even not until 9pm, but when you really have to work on something, try and do it at the time when your brain is all fired up
and the obvious - a ton of cups of tea, stay hydrated. I like to keep a bar of dark chocolate nearby for a little boost when I'm flagging in the middle of the afternoon
get distance from long projects - either by putting them aside for an entire day when you need to step back and get perspective on them - or by having a nap, if your time is limited! works wonders
in the exam days, I swore by quizlet
for the 'aesthetic'
I almost never make handwritten notes anymore (for environmental reasons, for decluttering (space and mind) reasons, and because you can 'ctrl-f' a word document and you can't do that to a notebook), but when I did I had a colour scheme (I think loosely it was yellow for essential information and quotes, green for definitions, red for working things out (and for annotating the grammar in a latin text), blue for notes to self/cross referencing information). I kept it relatively minimal, and I made it stick - I did all of my latin translations in green for the whole of university because it was the colour I used to understand things
in the same vein, I used to have a look through the studyblr/study notes tag on here and see what other people were doing with their notes. I think you can overdo it and get bogged down with drawings and washi tape, but I do think that a clear set of titles and subheadings can actually really help instead of get in the way (also! put the date on all of your work! keep your learning in chronological order, it's crazy helpful for revision)
obvious - but invest in a hole punch if you use ring binder folders
a few final points, maybe specific to english/classics/humanities -
I always buy my primary texts wherever I can, which is a big privilege (always happy to get them second hand though), but basically if I can't annotate the page I am really going to struggle to process the information, and it's the one instance where I find that word processing really slows down my train of thought
read around! read widely! chase up allusions! make notes on every single read - make your own paratext out of developing your understanding. write down all of your thoughts. you never know where your train of thought is going to take you
embrace all of it. don't write something off because it's too hard - or too easy - to understand, because it references something you've never read, because it's not normally your kind of thing. all of your initial thoughts and reactions to a text are just as valuable as the ones you go on to have, and if something is trying to be inaccessible to you, then there is great value in understanding why it doesn't want to be easy to understand. you always know enough to start thinking about something, chipping away at its layers slowly - and then you learn everything else you need along the way.
there's a lot going on here - I hope some of it is helpful! when my diss is over I will consolidate some of these thoughts into more helpful posts, but until then, good luck with the beginning of the academic year - and let me know how it goes! xxx

Speak To My Heart
Rowaelin Month, Day 15: A bad day
Word count: 3422
Warnings: language, bit of depression, fighting. In short, there is angst in this fic. Hope the ending makes up for the rest.
Linguistics and foreign languages are two of my personal passions, so please bear with the bits of language talk that I couldn’t resist including. Brief word of clarification: a lot of expressions we use in English either translate into something extremely rude or don’t make sense in other languages. Translation companies have been trying for quite some time to make sure they don’t accidentally send a client a translated instruction manual that reads “fuck your mother” instead of “for questions, contact your local energy department.” All right I’ll get off my soapbox. :)
The phrases in foreign languages, marked with *, are translated into English at the end. Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rowan’s day had been shit. The second he walked through the door, he’d been bombarded with an endless slew of crash reports, malfunctioning equipment, faulty passwords, and best of all, having to rewrite half the security firewalls because one of the rash young idiots in his department couldn’t be bothered to check his work for errors before sending it to management. And management thought it was the department boss’s job to fix all of his employees’ fuckups.
He hated IT.
Even more so since being promoted to department chair.
All he wanted to do was the fun stuff--program design and development, fixing the flaws in his own designs, and of course making those who tried to break into his company’s systems regret their pitiful existence. But Cadre Tech’s bitch of a CEO refused to let the best software engineer on her staff actually do his job.
Most days, he could cope with the pile of useless shit she directed to his desk. Most days. Today was not one of those days. Probably because on top of all the meaningless tasks he’d had to field, he was also forced to sit through one of Maeve’s bullshit “department head strategy sessions,” where every department chair had to pretend they gave a single shit about any word coming from their CEO’s garishly red, pinched mouth.
As if she knew anything her staff actually did.
Thanks to the compulsory meeting, Rowan was stuck in his office at nearly ten o’clock, painstakingly combing through the final draft of the update to CT’s translation program. This program had shot the company to fame and fortune, or at least insane stock value. “A Google Translate that actually translates,” their marketing department called it, and by the gods, that stupid slogan worked. And made sense. Rowan knew the program was just as good as it claimed to be.
He’d put in the hours, alongside a team of linguists, software engineers, designers, and people fluent in at least one other language. Frequent were the sessions where the project whiteboard turned into a jumble of words in twenty or more languages, Spanish alongside Arabic next to a column of simplified Japanese characters spilling over into a row of Cyrillic lettering. Rowan himself spoke German and some Spanish, but even he was lost amid the cacophony of eighteen different people switching from language to language, trying to figure out how idiomatic expressions translated from one language to another and what words should never, ever be placed together.
It took the team well over a year of bickering, or as they called it, friendly linguistic disagreements, to make it from loosely mapped concept to functioning program. By the time it hit the market three years ago, the software had been so well promoted that companies all over the world snapped up their chance to finally communicate properly with the client they’d offended years ago with a bad translation.
At launch, of course, Maeve stood in front of a sea of shouting reporters brandishing microphones, smiling her serpentine smile, and proceeded to thank the creative team for all their “contributions” before taking all the credit herself.
Said creative team went to the bar that had become their usual gathering spot that night to get drunk and shit-talk their horrible boss, not necessarily in that order.
His favorite memory of that night was hearing the chief linguist, an outside contract with multiple advanced degrees who spoke eight separate languages besides English fluently, refer to Maeve as “quella puttana rugosa che non riusciva a convincere un cazzo a venire a dieci metri da lei se si vestiva da figa.*” The Italian speakers on the team were crying with laughter, and so was everyone else, once she translated it.
And then she downed another shot of vodka and hissed something that sounded like “sukya bliyad, no puedo mich betrinken con esta ordures.**” When everyone blinked in confusion, she sighed and relayed the sentiment in English.
Nobody had laughed as hard as Rowan. Aelin Galathynius just had that effect on him.
She brightened his darkest days.
But she couldn’t ease the strain of today.
And it was all his fault.
~
Aelin glanced up at the clock on her wall and cursed in three different languages when she saw that it was nearly eleven. Without meaning to, she’d spent all afternoon and evening writing lesson notes on idiomatic expressions. She really couldn’t help herself once she got into the topic; it was her pet project.
And the subject of one of her dissertations. Yes, she had multiple.
She’d worked her ass off for years to get through college, then through graduate and doctoral work while teaching at universities to offset costs, then earned a full-time teaching position at one of the top-ranked universities in the world. She got to teach linguistics, her lifetime love, and give guest lectures at other universities and at conferences, teaching people all over the world about the complexities and interrelatedness of language. Hell, she spoke ten; she’d be qualified to speak on linguistic relationships by virtue of that alone.
Gods, she was the chief linguist behind the most successful translation software ever produced. Even if the bitch who owned the rights to said software had literally threatened to sue over ownership rights if any of the people who’d poured their figurative blood and sweat and literal tears into building the program tried to claim a small piece of the credit each of them so richly deserved.
That software and her role in its creation--even though Maeve Ond had claimed the public credit, the creative team spoke at interviews and made news features for their work in Cadre Tech’s massive success--had solidified her credentials as a professor of linguistics, had boosted her into her lecturer spot.
Last year, her university granted her tenure.
She should have been overjoyed, and she was, but not as much as earning tenure deserved.
Because there was nobody to share her joy.
Three years ago, in the wake of CT’s overnight jump to worldwide fame, Aelin fled a love she did not and never would deserve.
She told herself she would never look back. But she did. Almost every day, she looked back at the life she’d shared with Rowan and tried to convince herself that she did the right thing.
Try as she might, she could never silence the whisper that echoed always in her mind.
“You broke both of your hearts”
Someday, she told herself, someday she would be back in Doranelle. Someday, she would have a chance to apologize. Someday, maybe she could fix the Rowan-shaped chasm that gaped wide in her heart.
Yet here she was, sitting in a very nicely appointed hotel room in the university district of Doranelle, typing furiously away as if burying herself in notes and prep for tomorrow’s lecture could make the urge to contact Rowan disappear.
~
Three years earlier. Doranelle.
“Knock, knock.”
Rowan’s head jerked up from where it had most definitely not been slumped on his desk. “Wha--Oh. Hi, Aelin.”
“You’re falling asleep, buzzard, let’s go home.” He heard laughter in her soft voice.
“As if you won’t just get home and start cross-checking every single one of the phrases on your ‘potential problem’ list.”
She chuckled, walking over to him. “Fine. We’re both perfectionist work whores. Doesn’t mean we don’t need sleep.”
“I know you too well to believe you’re actually going to sleep.”
“All right, you win. Come home now, I’ll make some food, and you can put me to bed.” She winked saucily at him, leaving very little doubt what putting her to bed would entail, and he was up out of his chair in seconds.
“Hand over your computer, Fireheart,” he grinned as they walked into the small house they shared on the outskirts of the city.
“What?”
“Your computer, love. I’m leaving both of our work bags on the shelf by the front door so we can actually catch some rest tonight.” He pressed a finger to her mouth to silence her protests. “Uh-uh, Ae, we have interviews tomorrow and I won’t let the genius behind this program’s flawless word-to-word be anything but well-rested.”
She sighed, but he saw the love in her eyes. “Here, then, my dear brilliant software engineer. Leave your notebook, too, because I know if it’s anywhere near you, you’ll be up at three in the morning scribbling blocks of gibberish and picking apart your faultless code until you go insane.”
Both of their work satisfactorily put aside, Aelin made good on her promise to cook Rowan dinner.
And then he made very good on his promise to put her to bed.
The next morning, they were both awake with the sunrise, content to lay curled in each other’s arms as the morning light spread across their room.
Rowan drifted back into sleep, waking for good when he caught a whiff of coffee from the kitchen’s direction.
“Morning, you sleepy buzzard,” Aelin grinned, sipping from her mug.
Rowan dropped a kiss on her head as he reached for his mug. He took a long drink, sighing as the milky, sweetened caffeine hit his mouth.
“I will never understand how you drink your coffee black, Fireheart.”
“Not all of us need to sweeten the hell out of coffee to drink it, Ro. Maybe if you can’t handle the real thing, you should go back to your pretty little cups of crappy cafe tea.”
“Mention my pretty little teacups again, Ae…”
She giggled. “You be quiet and drink your coffee-flavored milk, my love. We both know you’re impossibly grumpy until you have caffeine in your veins.”
He grumbled something unintelligible as he drank his coffee.
They were nearly late to work that morning, even having planned an extra half hour to arrive, thanks to Aelin wearing what Rowan dubbed her “sexy professor suit.” She fixed the pins in her French twist in the car, making herself once again a portrait of professionalism, and slipped Rowan’s hand from her leg.
“Two hands on the wheel, Whitethorn.”
He pouted. “But I’m a safe driver and I want to hold your hand.”
“My hands are over here, love, not down by my skirt.”
When he pulled into his spot, Aelin closed her eyes and took a deep, slow breath.
“You good, Fireheart?”
Gods, she loved hearing him call her that. “Yeah. I just…needed a moment to settle myself. To tell myself the cameras aren’t here to tear apart what I say.”
Rowan wrapped his hands around hers. “Dr. Aelin Ashryver Galathynius, the bland reporters are here to stand in awe of your expertise. Not a single word you say will come across as anything but brilliant and beautifully said.”
She squeezed his hands, her usual confidence returning. “I love you, buzzard.”
“I love you too, Fireheart. Let’s go talk about our amazing achievement.”
The day sped by in a blur of reporters, interviewers, teleprompters, practiced speeches, lights, cameras, and crew. When the last bleached-blonde anchor of the last interview of the day cut her crew’s cameras, Aelin flopped against her second-in-linguistic-command, Dr. Nehemia Ytger, the expert on ethnic African languages.
“If I never see a news crew again, it’ll be too soon,” she sighed. “I’m beat.”
Nehemia snickered. “But we’re done talking about how proud we are that Maeve and her marvelous company have done such a grand service to the world.”
Aelin snorted softly. “Right. And now we servicepeople want to go home and take off our heels.”
“Amen to that.”
As the team filed out of the studio, Rowan made his way over to Aelin. “Holding up?”
“Not anymore,” she said, leaning casually into his side. “My heels are killing me, there’s a hairpin stabbing into my scalp, and I really, really need to pee.”
Rowan laughed, deep and husky. “Let’s get you home, then.”
“I’m stopping in the bathroom first.”
Just before she left the ladies’ room, Aelin heard voices in the break area. Familiar voices--Rowan’s, Maeve’s, and the snippy, borderline whiny tones of Remelle Frelau, who worked in the marketing department and had a hell of a boner for Rowan.
“--looking at revenue over--” Maeve’s voice cut out, but from the gasps of the other two, the revenue was through the roof.
“And it’s all thanks to this genius here,” drawled Remelle, who if Aelin had her guess was probably clinging onto Rowan like a platinum-blonde leech.
“Ms. Frelau, this was the product of a team. No single person could possibly have made it happen alone.”
“Oh, call me Remelle, or even better Remy. And you’re the team leader, so you practically did create it by yourself.”
Aelin snickered to herself. Vapid bitch had no idea what she was saying.
“That’s not how teams work, Ms. Frelau. We wouldn’t be here without Dr. Galathynius and Dr. Ytger’s language expertise, not to mention the creative genius of the engineers, graphic designers, linguists, and programmers.”
“Ms. Frelau, though her judgment is clearly biased, has a point, Mr. Whitethorn,” Mave said. “You demonstrated remarkable collaborative leadership qualities throughout this project, and I fully expect that you will continue to do so.” Maeve’s heels clicked away. Rowan’s voice followed her.
“Thank you, Ms. Ond, but I have to credit Dr. Galathynius--”
“Will you stop kissing that woman’s ass?” snorted Remelle. “Gods, she’s not worth your time or your praise; all she does is translate words into different languages and you idiots drool over that like it means anything.”
Aelin jerked like she’d been slapped. She knew Remelle was a self-centered, shallow, spiteful bitch, but she hadn’t known she would do this.
“--did more for this project than you and your useless whiteboard of catchphrases,” growled Rowan.
“I don’t care what she ‘did for the project,’ Rowan, she’s never going to be good enough for you.”
“Thank you for caring about my welfare, Frelau, now please kindly fuck off.”
Aelin chose that moment to saunter out of the bathroom and head straight for Rowan, her face showing no hint of having heard that conversation. She did note with satisfaction Remelle’s vain attempt to march out of the room with some semblance of dignity. Too bad her heel caught on the seam of the hallway carpet and the break room’s tile flooring and she had to grab the doorframe to keep from collapsing.
“You’re awfully quiet, Aelin.”
“Just thinking. Processing, really. It’s been a hell of a day.”
Rowan nodded. “I bet.”
“And hearing fucking Remelle rip into me for being useless…didn’t make it better.”
“Shit, you heard that?”
“Yeah. I heard that.” Her voice was hollow.
Rowan pulled into their driveway and shut off the engine. Reaching across the console, he cupped Aelin’s face in his hands. “Aelin. You are brilliant. You are terrifyingly smart. You are a force of nature. Nothing, nothing you will ever do is useless. Don’t let that jealous bitch make you think you are less than the perfect woman.”
She smiled tentatively at him. “She…she told me before that last interview that I could never be enough for you. Because you--because of Lyria.”
Rowan raked a hand through his hair. “Ae, can we talk about this inside?”
That night, he told her about his former fiancé, Lyria. He told her about their whirlwind romance, their youthful dreams. He told her about the horrific crash that stole away Lyria’s life. A drunk trucker, a narrow pass in the mountains. He showed her the box in which he kept all the memories of that life. He cried. Aelin cried. He curled against her, let her comfort him.
“Sometimes, I wish she was still here. She’d understand everything. She always did.”
Aelin had no response. She let Rowan fall asleep, his weight shifting off her and into his bed, and looked through the box. Everything she saw served as another reminder that this was the first woman he loved, the woman who understood everything.
She was worthy of him.
But was Aelin?
The more she looked at Rowan and Lyria’s happiness, the more the answer solidified.
No.
When Rowan woke up the next morning, Lyria’s box sat on Aelin’s side of the bed, a side that had not held Aelin.
He glanced out the window.
Her car was gone.
He got up and frantically paced through the house.
Everything she’d brought into his home was gone.
As was she.
Present day.
Rowan opened his front door mechanically, pulled off his shoes, dropped his work backpack on its shelf, and was halfway to his bedroom before he realized he’d just opened his front door. His front door that was always locked.
Someone was in his house.
Someone who either had a duplicate key or insanely good lockpicking skills.
Exactly one person owned a duplicate key to his house.
Aelin.
That’s impossible, she lives in Orynth, she can’t be here, he told the traitorous part of his brain that leapt with joy at seeing Aelin’s face again.
He turned around and made his way through the kitchen--nobody there--to the living room. He flicked on a lamp, casting a soft light around the room.
And nearly had a heart attack.
Aelin Galathynius sat on his couch.
For a moment, he just gawked at her. She looked so…different. Older. Gone was the infectious smile that had captured his heart. Dark shadows smeared under her eyes, testament both to the long hours she devoted to her work and to recent sleepless nights. She was twisting a ring on her right hand, a familiar sign of her nerves. From his angle, Rowan could see a hint of dark script on her wrist. A tattoo. The Aelin he knew didn’t have tattoos.
“I’m not a ghost.” Her voice, weary and hollow, broke the tense silence.
Rowan crossed the room, propped an arm on the fireplace. “Why?”
“Why am I here? Why did I leave? Why did I cut you out of my life?”
“Everything.” He couldn’t keep the waver from his voice, but his eyes burned into hers.
She took a steadying breath. “I’m here to apologize, first of all. I’m here to face what I ruined and to try and start mending it. I’m here to come to terms with everything I broke when I left three years ago.”
Whatever he’d expected her to say, it certainly wasn’t that.
“I’m sorry, Rowan. I’m sorry I left like that. I was…I was scared.”
“You can’t just run away from your fears, Aelin!” He couldn’t keep the frustration from his tone. “You can’t just abandon someone when you have a bad day!”
“I’m sorry! I know I shouldn’t have left! I know I can’t run from my fears; I’ve spent the last three years trying and fucking failing to do that! But I don’t know what else to do.”
“Saying something about it would have been a good first step.”
“I’m bad at emotions, Rowan. I tried. It wasn’t enough.”
“That’s not a good enough excuse.”
Aelin flicked a tear from her face. “I know.” Her shoulders slumped. “I’m so sorry, Rowan. I should never have left. I let some stupid comment root into my head and make me doubt myself. I made myself believe I would never be good enough for you. I left you. I loved you, and I still left you. I still love you, even though I’ve tried to suppress it. I can never make up for that. I…I just wanted to tell you how much I’ve regretted that horrible decision all these years. I want you to be happy, Rowan, I--”
“How am I supposed to be happy without a source?” He’d dropped onto the couch, close enough to touch her but still keeping his distance.
“What?”
“You didn’t just take yourself away, Aelin. You were my happiness. I’ve spent three fucking years trying to make myself believe I’m better without you in my life, and I can’t.”
She was unabashedly crying by that point. “What do you want me to do? How can I make up for abandoning you?”
“Stay.”
Her gaze locked onto his, both of their eyes pooling with tears.
“Stay with me, Fireheart.”
“But--”
“I never stopped loving you either.”
A choked sob ripped out of Aelin. Rowan couldn’t hold himself in check any longer; he reached out and tugged her gently into his arms. To his shock, she didn’t resist, burying her face into his chest as sobs shook her shoulders. When she calmed, he tilted her chin up.
“Will you stay, Aelin?”
“Yes. Even though I will never deserve your forgiveness, yes.”
Translations:
* = “that pinched old whore who couldn’t convince a dick to come within ten metres of her if she dressed up provocatively” (Italian)
** = loosely translated as “Fucking hell, I can’t get drunk off this garbage.” (in order, Russian (badly phonetically spelled out because Rowan POV), Spanish, German, Spanish again, French) (the Russian doesn’t directly translate, so it could mean several different variations of expletive)
Might there be a second part? Perhaps......
