wandering into dangerous territory and revealing myself as a tiktok enjoyer but i've been seeing criticism of the girl dinner trend that has opened my eyes and made me feel like a dummy and i just thought i'd share w the squad.

the trend of "girl dinner" i saw was "haha when i am not with people i eat a large and wide variety of random things (like leftover wendy's, yogurt, pickles, half a tv dinner) instead of preparing a real meal, which i then refer to as girl dinner" which then eventually shifted to like "mom dinner" or "no-husband dinner" which was like "when my husband is not around i do not put effort into preparing a high nutrition and high effort meal and just make something easy the kids like such as chicken nuggets, which i then refer to as 'no husband dinner'"

so i thought the original trend was like "rather than acting typically feminine and adult and cooking, girl dinner is eating random crap (as compared to presumably woman dinner? or adult dinner? which is cooking nutritious meals)" and the problem was in the infantilization (and then the second trend's issue was in prioritizing husband over kids and acting as though you have to perform as a housewife to have love)

and i was confused! bc i thought the focus was like "women can take care of themselves!" and i was like "considering the whole sexism shtick about women cooking i can see how this one was not inherently negative" BUT APPARENTLY the girl dinner trend everybody else was seeing was about essentially being anorexic. got it. loves it. understanding the hate!!
