I’m Love or Loveless, either name works! (You wouldn’t be incorrect if you called me Pixel though, as that was the name I used on my previous blog)

I really enjoy fiction, and especially fictional characters, and wanted to have a blog so I can throw out my silly little ideas.

I do fanart and fanfiction but we’ll see how much I end up posting that kinda thing, haha.

Say what you will about One Piece men, Franky is the most husband-coded character to me, and making him Reader's "one that got away" absolutely breaks my heart. But also I like to think Reader brags about having routinely been hitting that once his wanted posters start getting around.

Runs in the Family (Rosinante Donquixote x sister!reader)

This was deeply fucked-up and the thought of it was vexing me for weeks until I got it all down. I have a lot of headcanons about how incestual the Celestial Dragons and their descendants are, and I like to think Rosi was convinced he was above it all, had escaped the inevitable. But sometimes, you can only run so long before that which you tried to avoid catches up to you.

Between What Was and What Will Be (stepdad!Shanks x reader)

Oh boy, this was one that I just had a super-clear idea for in my head and it was driving me insane until I wrote it. I think I finished this in a weekend. The most important theme of this is that daddy kinks are passé, dad kinks are in. (I'm JOKING, it's about shared trauma and what defines family and breaking taboos.)

A Ride for a Ride (taxi driver!Zoro x reader) / Compliments to the Chef (linecook!Sanji x reader)

Pairing these together because they're both Slimeball AU works and also linked by the same Reader. I had such a fucking blast writing them both, feeling free from giving too much of a shit if Sanji or Zoro were in-character, because their Slimeball AU personalities were whatever I wanted them to be. (Yet, they still felt in-canon somehow, just a little to the left.) I love how just... down for whatever Reader really is in these lmao.

Secondhand Smoke (Spike Spiegel x reader)

I like writing pieces without dialogue sometimes as an exercise, since that's usually what I prefer to write first, and this was so very sexy of me to write imo. Writing about a character I've been in love with for 20+ years is always special to me, it's silly but I try to write Spike with such care and keep him in character as closely as I can because it's like, important to me to write him as I experienced him. If that makes any sense.

Can you explain your last post

There’s a tendency of other fans to equate gintoki with spike spiegel from cowboy bebop

And mugen from samurai champloo

Both of them are the main characters from shows directed by Shinichiro Watanabe.

And while the similarities between gintoki, spike and mugen are there (mavericks with heart of gold, gambler, devil-may-care attitude, traumatic past) some fans go to the extent of insisting on their headcanon that the preferences in life partners of these three characters are all one and the same

...that their type is a “woman that could kill them.”

(Yes this is a shipping thing too... eugh)

Iirc only Mugen explicitly said that his ideal woman was “one that could kill him.” That was from the money counterfeiting episode.

While it was true that he and that ninja had excellent banter and sexual tension, diehard samurai champloo fans will tell you that the true heroine (and potential love interest) was Fuu all along.

I am aware of this because I have followed the samurai champloo tag for almost 10 years now. This point had been repeated many times even in official pamphlets and interviews.

I did ship mugen and that kunoichi btw. However mugenfuu, jinfuu and mugenjin dynamics ran deeper than mugen x kunoichi ever could.

As for Spike, yeah he and Faye had chemistry but Spike had only one soulmate and that was Julia, who he had a really complicated thing going on with. (I wont even touch that with a stick. Spiegel truly loves Julia whether we like it or not.)

Edited: yeah spike did say to Elecktra “I love a woman that could kick my ass.” Does that change anything? Actually no, since Mugen/Spike were basically from the almost the same creators.

Gintoki meanwhile has one canon celebrity crush (and one clear love interest, like he genuinely wants to marry them and etc.): Ketsuno Ana, a gentle yet powerful soul (and also divorced but still very unavailable). He had never said that he was interested romantically/physically in people/women that could kill him/kick his ass. In fact his type seems to be the ones whose smiles and kindness can get him thru the day no matter the weather and the circumstance. (Diviner arc)

I mean... finding similarities across various pop culture is all enjoyable and good. That is fan behavior and it’s valid. However if people do it to the point where even canon is becoming more obscure and obsolete? When canon is starting to be forgotten? To the point of turning vastly different characters from different series into one type of dude? I think that’s the time we have to take a step back and really look into the source materials. Come on.. At least take the time to know what kind of info you are twisting for your fandom needs before making it your own or smth.

Taking the "controversy" about the live action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop as an opportunity to analyzing the anime from Japanese perspective

For the bigots who whine about how the live action is “not white” when it’s much whiter than the anime:

There’s no “lack of accuracy” about Spike and Jet being “not white” when they have never been white (or white-coded), originally.

First, the duo in the live action are representing the two core element of the CB franchise itself, Watanabe's love for the two real people (famous Asian actors*), and black improvisational music.

* Bluece Lee, who conceived of Jeet Kune Do, and Matsuda Yusaku, a legendary actor well-known for his lanky figure and mop hair.

“Was not Spike Jewish?”

He's not canonically Jewish unless Watanabe (or any other staff who could make something canon) are informed enough, but it's not wrong if you assume, since it's a Japanese society's fault.

I’ve found the evidence that Watanabe didn’t know Spiegel is a Jewish surname, but let me explain more.

It's hard for me to say this but the ignorance of Jewish culture (actually it’s not only Jewish but every religious culture except for Buddhism, Shinto, and Christianity) in Japan is serious even in 2021.

Most people have never met any Jewish people before, also they’re uneducated, some of them are even anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim (since most Japanese views about the people live in western are based on the western media from old days, racist make people racist), if someone talks about they’re not going to celebrate Christmas because of their religion, the “average” people would laugh at them.

It seems acceptance of Jewish culture or characters has been trended in America since the 90s, but it’s mostly in comedy shows, so I think that’s good for people who can’t get enough representation in mature media (though satirical animations are actually aimed at a mature audience) have a cool character they can relate to.

Not only the fact he was a mobster of Chinese mafia, Spike has a lot of cultural connection to Chinese, though all of them are written by one person who wrote many episodes in anime and the novel Wild Man Blues, Yokote.

He agreed with the idea of eating Ein in Stray Dog Strut with the knowledge “brown furred dogs taste good”, eating dogs was common in China (it’d be a derogatory if you indicate someone’s taboo while you’re playing innocent, people in other countries also ate dogs in the past.)

He has a bottle of Dragon Balm (a parody of Tiger Balm) and makes the decoction of dried lizard in Toys In The Attic (weird crude drugs are a stereotype of Chinese medicine.)

He is nicknamed bào zhú (exploding bamboo) in childhood because of his short temper, he also smokes Zhongnanhai (Chinese cigarette brand) . He got hit on by a man who also hit on Faye (yes, the franchise has a canon bi character, he's not a good person though, but it doesn't matter when most people in the franchise are basically ass, in a good way) and it's hinted that he has a thing for Asians in the novel Wild Man Blues.

I think she headcanons him has genetic ancestry from China (largely at least) and grown up in the Chinese community.

Es ist perfekt!???! Ich liebe alles davon. Ich liebe v.a. auch die Steve und Wilma Freundschaft, die in den Büchern immer nur angedeutet ist, und ich hab das Gefühl, ich hab hier noch nicht genug drüber geredet. Ich meine, ich glaub es ist canon, dass Steve einen Crush auf Wilma hat (wenn auch sehr im Subtext versteckt) und auch, wenn Wilma diesen Crush nicht erwidert, sind sie sich definitiv sehr nah, und ich kann sie mir durchaus auch als Lebenspartnerinnen vorstellen, im platonischen Sinne. Das spielt alles in mein Headcanon von Wilmas religiöser Mutter rein, die will, dass Wilma sonntags in der Kirche ‘hübsche’, feminine Sachen trägt, und Wilma, die sich standhaft weigert. Dass die Klamotten, die Wilmas Mutter kauft, immer auf mysteriöse Weise verschwinden, und Wilma stattdessen in übergroßen Hemden und Hoodies auftaucht?? treibt Wilmas Mutter zur Weißglut, aber sie kann nichts dagegen tun. (Wilma, trotzig: “Was, willst du mir etwa verbieten, so in die Kirche zu gehen?! Dann bleib ich eben daheim!” Und naja, Schachmatt.)

EARLIER LIFE

not much is to say about his upbringing, it was too normal to really put a punch in him and too boring for him to ever bring up. but this would be a lie to hide the trauma he would rather just forget. an orphan moved around from family to family raised in the slums of manhattan learning quick to become a thug, a thief, and finally a criminal after joining the red dragon

a smart guy and extremely well, adaptive he got caught up in the wrong crowd and didn’t know it but crime was just something he knew and was good at. then during a mission for the red dragon he got in an accident that led to him losing his right eye all around the time of fallig in love with a girl named julia. his love for her was so great he wanted to give up crime so a plan to fake his death and run off with her was set only when they were supposed to meet she never showed and left him alone. he still faked his death and ended up running into jet; later becoming his best friend and bounty hunter partner.  never thinking or talking much about his past or julia.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM INBETWEEN THE SEVEN YEARS ?

he has come across riverdale after he decided a break was needed from bounty hunting. the town though, he never figured is full of criminals but unlike most seem to be running the police. with no bounties means no money and soon spike will have to do something if he wants to eat anything more than bell peppers and beef. the joke...he’s too poor to afford the beef.

HEADCANONS:

despises the smell of cooking bell peppers; when he and jet would really be scraping for nickles on a week to week basis between bounty hunts it’s the only thing jet would make. ironically he called it broke beef and peppers. spike never found this funny

he has a welsh corgi named Ein, short for Einstein; despite the fact that he hates pets

just before faking his death and running from the red dragon he was supposed to be their successor next to vicious, a notoriously heartless and feared person who if found out that spike was still alive would surely come for him.

he’s completely addicted to tv, being a couch potato, and cigarettes. there is rarely a time when he isn’t smoking.

one eye is lighter than the other.

people think spike is abnormally lucky, he always seems to win in gambles but this doesn’t mean he even enjoys it.

How are people head-canoning (is that a word?) that Spike is gay? I mean bi-sexual I would understand but like...the whole show revolves around his love affair with Julia who is very much a woman.

Like I may not like Julia but every plot-specific (so any episode that actually moved the plot along and had Vicious and/or Julia in them) episode is about the love they shared and how it ruined their lives...so Spike Spiegel is definitely straight, maybe bi, but he doesn’t prefer men.

I have some.- Spike definitely has German roots (Spiegel, yeah, I can’t disagree with @d2071 on that).

- Spike is smarter than he usually shows himself to be, but he hardly ever went to college. On the whole his education was quite fragmentary.

- He is a total lunkhead when it comes to deep human relationships (ok, it’s canon).

- He had lots of mates (actually fans), when he was part of the Red Dragon Syndicate, but his only friend was Vicious.

- Spike is an ancester of Dandy (who is a dandy guy in space).

Oh snap! Maybe I should of included this on the actual commission post but the story behind this request/picture was their first kiss.

Like, I always headcanoned Techmo as being bisexual and experienced with dating both men and women whereas Skips has only been with Mona (and no one else). And even though it’s been awhile since I’ve seen “Skips’ Story” I’m pretty sure that the most Skips and Mona ever did was hold hands and kiss (that one time) so with that being said I kind of just assumed that Skips has basically little-to-no experience when it comes to physical intimacy. 

Which is why I’m totally in love with the expression the artist did on Skips’ face. It just....fits so perfectly~!!!! Seriously tho- you should defo commission Groscar- their art is so beautiful~!!! ♥♥♥

And while I guess I’m talking about head-canons I also think that dating men is something that Techmo does very discretely. I mean, since he never really got fully fleshed out in terms of character development I always based a lot of his personality off of Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop (for a few reasons actually *haha); e.g. while Techmo does have a charming and playful side to his personality I also think that he would probably be incredibly protective of his own privacy and private life (again, for multiple reasons *haha)

Sooooo, maybe there is a bit of a story/fanfic behind that picture/commission but I don’t know if I’ll ever get to writing it anytime soon. But still- /hhhh////

Oh god, I keep forgetting that the women are SO much younger than the men when it comes to LIs...in fact, the BH LIs and the BHs in general just make me uncomfortable. AND I LIKE AGE GAPS. It’s the only class where the age dispairity is so noticable.

But it’s how they COME ACROSS. Male BH tries to sound like Spike Spiegell, so he sounds like he’s in his mid to late 30s ffs and Mako is 19? She looks and sounds like it too!! *shudders*

She’s not like Sakura who grew into an amazing character from the age of 15 to 30 (ignoring the obvious Boruta crap. Uchiha Sakura who?), so me shipping her with her former sensei, who is 14 years her senior, doesn’t squick me. She’s fully fleshe dout amazing young woman who gained her former sensei’s respect.

(sorry for the naruto comparison and i know it’s a little...unfair cause games liek this don’t always show the character growth, but still. using it as an example)

But Mako? She’s SO YOUNG through out the whole of the BH storyline, I just can’t do it. Most of the time I just want to keep her on the ship to protect her, you know?

And Torian comes across the same way to me, though not as bad since he’s a Mandalorian (not to mention the romance is boring to me). He’s a cutie and I ALWAYS push him towards Mako, who has a canon thing for him, because my BH, who I’ve always headcanoned is in her early/mid 30s, just...doesn’t...feel right.

Also, both BHs already have a career as a bounty hunter, it’s why Braden chose you in the first place. It may be a small career, but it’s enough. So unless you headcanon your BH as a prodigy, they’re gonne at least be in their mid/late 20s.

I won’t go into a rant about the others. We’d be here all day.

SWTOR Ages

You know, I always figure that the 8 classes are fairly young, since they’re only just beginning their careers (especially the force users, since that tends to get started pretty early). The exceptions I have being Aefre and Andswaru, which is hilarious for reasons I’ll get into.

And then I look at the ages for the guys you can romance…  Quinn was (apparently*) born in 3680 BBY/27 BTC which makes him 37 years old when the game starts. Andronikos was born 3678 BBY/25 BTC, making him 35. Most of my characters aren’t over 25 when they begin, it’s like BioWare is actively encouraging my age disparity kink :’’’’’D (help me).

Let’s see how many I can find the rest for!

 Aric Jorgan was born 3673 BBY/20 BTC, making him 30, same as Felix Iresso. Vector Hyllus was born 3669 BBY/16 BTC, so is 26. Doc was born 3670 BBY/17 BTC, making him 27 (seems about right… old enough to be a doctor, young enough to still be a hotshot horndog lmao).

And here comes the hilarious part: Corso Riggs and Torian Cadera, the youngest of the male romantic interests, the ones who are best suited (in a realistic sense) for the young toons… and in my main canon, they both get my two oldest toons. Corso was born in 3665 BBY/12 BTC, so he’s 22, and Torian was born in 3660 BBY/7 BTC, making him 17 (don’t worry, you meet him in 11 ATC, making him 18).

Aefre it’s not TOO bad, she’s 27 years old, so it’s only a five year difference. Andswaru, however, is 32 (33 in 11 ATC). That’s… that’s not… ideal… Like, it’s not exactly ideal for the dudes that are older than my female toons, but that has the benefit of those women being in a position of power over those guys so it’s not like they’re getting manipulated by older dudes plus the previously state age disparity kink (let’s just…casually ignore the unfortunate implications going the other way…). But Andswaru is both the older woman AND in a position of power over Torian.

HELP I AM TRAPPED IN A PROBLEM OF MY OWN MAKING. ;A;

I guess to complete the ages of the romanceable dudes: Theron was born in 3666 BBY/13 BTC making him 23 at the start of the game, 28 when you actually get to meet him. Arcann and Koth both got created way later so they don’t have any ages that I can find so IDK you can head canon WHATEVER MAKES YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE I GUESS.

“Hey Sol can you do the chicks, too?” ……………… oh fine then. Remember, all ages are as of 10 ATC (game start), not necessarily when you run into them.

Kira: 3663 BBY/10 BTC, 20 years old.

Nadia: 3664 BBY/11 BTC, 21 years old (… I honestly would have pegged her as younger than Kira. Huh).

Vette: 3664 BBY/11 BTC, 21 years old.

Jaesa: 3664 BBY/11 BTC, 21 years old.

Risha: 3664 BBY/11 BTC, 21 years old (is anyone else sensing a pattern here?).

Akaavi: 3670 BBY/17 BTC, 27 years old (c-c-c-c-combo breaker!).

Elara: 3669 BBY/16  BTC, 26 years old.

Kaliyo: 3672 BBY/19 BTC, 29 years old (I am so glad not everyone is super young you have no idea).

Raina: 3666 BBY/13 BTC, 23 years old.

Mako: 3662 BBY/9 BTC, 19 years old (honestly not surprised).

Ashara: 3662 BBY/9 BTC, 19 years old (again, not surprised).

Lana: Like Koth and Arcann, she’s a mystery~~ (according to a short story, she completed her final trial as an acolyte “at an unspecified point of time” before 3641BBY/12 ATC, so she’s probably younger than she comes across!).

*(All according to the SWTOR Encyclopedia, which is admittedly a bit sketchy since it was completed before everything was set in stone… like, it says Talos Drellik was born in 3669 BBY/16 BTC ffs, making him the same age as Vector, which is SOME BULLSHIT LET ME TELL YOU).
