thinking about a whumpee on a forced march through rough terrain
hands tied in front of them, on foot while their captors are mounted, sleeping out in the open, forced to beg for adequate food and water
maybe they're barefoot, a captured royal in silken robes
maybe they're in a torn suit or soldier's uniform
maybe they were stripped at the start, increasing the exposure to the elements, the humiliation
are they a terrified mess from the beginning, or do they try to endure with dignity? how long before they're stumbling, barely putting one foot in front of the other? how long before they fall?
#im particularly thinking about a notorious captain or other commanding officer tbh#his enemies have faced defeat after defeat at his hands and now that they have him they want to make him suffer#they need to travel through the mountains to reach their capitol and -of course- they make him walk the whole way#but then someone suggests taking his boots and someone else suggests stripping him naked#they can't let him -die- before he can be paraded through the streets but they'll get him as close as they can#whump#whump prompt#captive#taken prisoner#forced nudity#nonsexual nudity#military whump#fantasy whump#this also randomly made me think of one of my ye olde whump scenarios#where a small regiment ends up surrounded by the enemy and thwir captain is doing his damndest to keep his men alive#and work out a strategy to retreat#but then the enemy soldiers offer to let the rest go if they turn over their leader and they do without a second thought#so not only is he captured he's also been betrayed and is just trying to keep it together emotionally#to do list#this would also be fun with sahota or any of the crew

It’s my first Nevada Day living in Nevada; I had to draw *something* epic! (As if I don’t also draw Nevada for the other 360-odd days a year 😂)
I’ve had this idea for awhile but finally got around to it. Sunglasses reflecting the duality of the state: the darkest of skies and endless miles of remote desert wilderness…vs. Las Vegas, bright lights, crowds, the chaos of the city…
Nevada is the definition of:
Song lyrics are from this song:
The song itself doesn’t (literally) scream “Nevada” like some of their other songs so, but that part specifically really sums up the state to me:
And if I pave my streets with good times, will the mountain keep on giving?
This is actually a great summary of Nevada’s history (in this essay I will—): The mountain (mining industry) gives and takes, in an endless cycle of boom and bust. But “paving the streets with good times,” a.k.a. legalizing gambling, prostitution, etc, etc, ensures that the prosperity doesn’t end.
#wttt#welcome to the table#mur art#welcome to the statehouse#wttt Nevada#the table#wttsh#wttt fanart#wttsh fanart#my only gripe about this one is that I made him *too* pretty#he’s supposed to be a lil rugged and scrappy okay#silver Nevada bolo toe dedicated to the dude who led my tour of the state capitol the other day#he rocked that shit#Spotify

Yes, President Snow tried to make the people of Panem focus on Katniss and Peeta's love story to keep them from focusing on the rebellion. But that doesn't mean the love story doesn't matter. The irony at the heart of the Hunger Games trilogy is that the Capitol thought the love story was pointless, but it was actually the entire point all along.
President Snow tried to frame Katniss and Peeta's act of love--trying to die for each other--as something irrational. No sensible person would do anything so stupid and rebellious! They only did it because love puts you out of your right mind! Emotions make you irrational and unpredictable, a danger to yourself and others! Falling in love turns you into a fool--only following the rational ideas of the Capitol will keep you and your families safe from the irrational effects of love.
Unfortunately for him, the audience begins to see that the foolishness of love is wiser than the Capitol's wisdom. A society where emotions can flourish, where people can act selflessly, where children are cared for, enemies are honored (or at least treated as people), and other people are worth dying for, might require more trust, might require you to risk yourself, but it makes for a much more beautiful world than the rational oppression of life under the Capitol's rule.
Snow thought that a love story would prove to the people how important their society was. He thought it could distract from revolution, because he couldn't see the deeper truth.
In a society built upon the principle of kill-or-be-killed, love is the revolution.
#the hunger games#suzanne collins#another post making a slightly different variation of the same point that's been made a thousand times#but i've just seen a few dozen too many takes like#'the capitol tried to distract people with the love story'#'and now people focus on thg's love story instead of the revolution part so we're just like the capitol!'#i get that they're criticizing shallow surface reads of the story#that care about the aesthetic and emotions above any deeper message#it doesn't mean that their phrasing isn't annoying and wrong

so anyway when anyone holds the belief that the career kids were evil and were natural born killers you are equally dehumanizing them like the systems of training they were put in. you are adultifying children who were brainwashed and forced to learn the ways of slaughter for sake of glory. we could talk about their parallels to war also, but the main thing here are these are children taught that in order to appease their district they must kill ruthlessly and without second regard for anyone else in th equation. their win and their path of success only, even if in the end they're still cannon fodder like all other victors. like how many time does it have to be said that the careers are VICTIMS. not villains like they're portrayed as by the narrative.
#like think of the adult careers. those were children forced to grow up too fast because they needed to learn how to survive#so they could fight for their district and come home to bring pride#and then they learn that it wasn't what everyone made things out to be#the amount of people i see saying that cato clove marvel and glimmer were simply killing machines and nothing more.#buddy let me TELL YOU something#they were just as human and just as scared as anyone else in that arena#the careers not being perfect victims to most doesn't mean they aren't victims of their circumstances#wealth and level of status doesn't matter when these children were abused to fuel the entertainment of the hunger games#crazy thing is that they're NOT even supposed to be training but it's the standard. it's what makes their home proud#and the capitol satisfied.#anyway this is for my one mutual because i wanted to share my thoughts...#the hunger games#thg#the careers#enobaria#brutus#cashmere#gloss#finnick odair#mags flanagan#annie cresta#glimmer#marvel#cato#clove

The majority of sejanus analysis I see falls into this trap of simply critizing characters for not being completely rational actors which happens a lot with media analysis. Think "they both could have fit on the door!" brand of almost cinema sins-esq story analysis.
Which I could get into how I absolutely hate that style of media critique because it so often boils to asking "why is this story happening at all!?"
"Why does gothel keep Rapunzel so close to her kingdom why not run away to a different country" because then this story wouldn't be happening at all, man. I don't know what to tell you.
But to keep this focused on Sejanus and how so much criticism is just "he's too irrational" I think miss completely miss the mark. Obviously I think there's a lot of misinterpretation of characters (their motivations, emotions, intent and so on) due to Coriolanus beings an incredibly unreliable narrator, and people tend to just skim over how young and vulnerable Sejanus is. (He is 17-18 and actively suicidal to say the least.)
But Sejanus isn't irrational, or well, he is, but no more than anyone else in the story. I often see "he should have changed the system from within" as a critique for his character, and sure you can absolutely think that. But the issue wasn't he wasn't thinking ahead or that he was just too emotional and irrational to see the merit in that. Thinking he couldn't understand the value of playing along fundamentally misses what asking to play the long con is asking Sejanus to do.
He would have to stomach going along with the games, staying silent, working in a city with slaves, and watching every year as children get massacred. Asking him to wait it out until he has enough power is asking him to not just stomach capitol cruelty but actively participate within it. Sejanus doesn't make choices out of just pure emotion but a sense of right and wrong. He is a character completely guided by his morals, and one that is constantly punished because of it. People say "He should have used his money to change things" He tried to, in the story, explicitly. And Coriolanus killed him for it.
Yes, using only his morals as a guiding light resulted in his death. Yes, if he played along he might have been able to change things for the better. But what it really comes down to is this, Sejanus refused to play the capitol's game, refused to let them make him something he's not. And he died for it. Kind of reminds you of another character in the franchise huh.
#:v#sejanus plinth#tbosas#SEJANUS WAS AN INNOCENT!#and here's the thing you can think he's stupid for that!! But think he's stupid for what he actually did#and this isn't really getting into the just absolute mind numbing horror of the situation sejanus is in#like he's forced to become a cop.#he's literally forced to brutalize the people he desperately wants to help.#he's also actively suicidal! which I touch on but it really is a huge aspect of his character#he is desperate and cornered and can't let himself play along#even for a moment#and sure maybe he's stupid for that#but he died as himself and not something the capitol made him into and there's something righteous in that I think#nothing you can take from me and all that

I too would love a Haymitch POV, but you know what POV I'd love to see in sunrise? Haymitch's mentor.
Allegedly, at least according to the Capitol, there's no previous victor of district 12, so I'm assuming the mentor must be Capitol-assigned. However, other districts like 1 and 2 will have had countless of winners after 49 games, in fact I'm guessing most districts will have victors as mentors. But not district twelve, not yet.
I wonder how it would feel, as a Capitol citizen, to be so excited to be assigned a mentor position, to dress up all flashy for it and to then sit in a room filled with anxious, deeply traumatized people watching what you consider the Eurovision of your youth as they quietly despise every second of it and watch in horror as you laugh and clap. It must be so strange, so isolating and uncanny, so unlike everything you've ever known to hear these victors' snide comments towards the gamemakers, their ungratefulness for what they've gotten from their own victories and their unfiltered hatred that hides behind the famous, glorious personas you know them as. Every second in the training center with your two tributes, in the moments shared with your fellow mentors as they gear up to talk to sponsors as if they're readying for battle, it all leaves small cracks in the worldview you've gotten so comfortable with for all your life.
Yeah, I truly wonder how that mentor must feel.
#thg#the hunger games#sotr#sunrise on the reaping#also since this book is specifically about propaganda it just seems right to pick a capitol pov you know?#we've had snow and yeah he was prejudiced as hell#but he instilled this mindset into these people. he MADE the games a show.#I'd love to see it from a pov of someone who has known nothing else than to consider the games a spectacular game show#who looks at it the way we view the met gala (+ at a time when it's produced like the met gala too- that wasn't the case yet in ballad)#especially with the mix of a handful of mentors being capitol but most others being victors who lived through it#who could never see the games that way- as if it's just a spectacle. an annual show for the capitol and not the horrifying nightmare it is#to have a capitol person amidst victors as mentor seems like it would be such an interesting take#yeah that seems like a story worth telling to me

What if the "weird" district names in the Hunger Games only sound like actual things because the Capitol mispronounces them? So "Mizzen" is a part of a ship, sure, but the name Mizzen is actually pronounced in a different way than the word mizzen. Maybe the i is more of an ai or ie sound and the e is more of an a sound. Coral could have emphasis on "ral" with a longer sounding a or the Cor sounds more like cure and stuff like that. Bobbin and Wovey could have emphasis at the end of their names with a vaguely French tilt to the pronunctiation, whereas Velvereen could be pronounced more like Velvyrean? Facet could be ay instead of a maybe? And the one that started this all: Treech, pronounced with a rolling r and an ey sound. There are so many possibilities and I'm having so much fun.
#So for context: I was imagining the districts singing SugarDaddy from Roxy Dekker and my mental pronunctiation of Treech changed#And that got me thinking#Yes I have made this into a fix it AU#one of the mentors or some capitol weirdo makes fun of the strange names and they're like “well first of all at least it ain't pretentious”#And then they explain that yeah it's gonna sound weird when you mispronounce it like that#and then someone who likes languages gets interested and it becomes a whole discussion and then that bleeds over into a broader discussion#for the Capitol at least#the tributes aren't involved in that#Because how can the Capitol claim to be so much better than the districts when they don't even know basic stuff about them#Like- pronunctiation of words and names is a very basic everyday thing so if they don't even know THAT... how much else do they not know?#the ballad of songbirds and snakes#tbosas#the hunger games#10th hunger games#hunger games#coral thg#tbosas coral#coral tbosas#coral#tbosas mizzen#mizzen tbosas#treech#treech tbosas#tbosas treech#treech thg#fix it au#in the tags#facet#facet tbosas#velvereen tbosas

Hey, so I know it's been a long time, but I suddenly felt inspired to make some Annie Cresta Picrews. So here you go & I hope you like her as much as I do.
Pre games
Parade outfit
1st Interview
Training
Games
Victory interview
District 13
Post war
#she looks paler in most of them because while I've started to like the headcannon that she could be of asian descent#i don't think the Capitol is above colourism & therefore could tottally see them doing something to Annie's skin to make it lighter#even though she's naturally tan from being out in sun a lot back in District 4#she's pale in District 13 as well but that's because after winning her games she didn't go out as much#& then obviously she was kidnapped & held hostage by the Capitol#she gets her tan back permanently after the war#also yes the cardigan is Finnick's & no i will not confirm weather she's just borrowing it or if it's her's now#god suzzane just let me live in a world where odesta are happy & safe where nothing hurts#i put all the picrews together because I'm still not sure how popular annie is (especially when not in connection to Finnick)#thg#the hunger games#picrew#annie cresta#annie cresta picrew#djarn picrew#the hunger games picrew#thg picrew#also i made her look for her victory interview lacklustre on purpose#as after her breakdown in her games i think pretty much everyone just wanted things to be over#so they could send her back to 4 as quick as possible so they could forget about her#lastly i made her face rounder to show that she is more healthy#& like she had a baby so even though i imagine she's still pretty fit due being an almost Olympic level swimmer#her body is bound to change after that#the turtle neck in the 'games' picrew is meant to be a swimsuit (similar to what the tributes wore in CF) but idk if that came across lol

i have finally read that sotr summary and see that suzanne is going to go for the most straightforward perspective, i.e. following haymitch from reaping -> post victory. i am readjusting my expectations.
rip plutarch pov 2024 - 2024. you were fun
#like. it would have been very interesting. readers from the western world are more in the capitol than the districts#and i saw ppl getting crazy with their predictions... e.g. th sotr was going to be from the pov of the district one girl......? um unlikely#so i thought plutarch was actually a middle-ground sensible theory#but like i said on the last post i made about this. thats what fanfiction is for#sunrise on the reaping#rip me#sotr#thg#the hunger games#meta

Asteria: Don't be ludicrous. Ludius, completely straight-faced: I'm not, I'm Ludius. Asteria, stunned: ...did he...did he just make a joke? Ludius actually smiling for once: heh.
#random thoughts about them#ocs: asteria ravinstill and ludius dovecote#ludius has a resting murder face and is a pretty serious/solemn kid and later adult...so his smiles are pretty rare#asteria is like weirdly possessive of his smiles because of that#like as kids‚ ludius once grinned after seeing someone trip#asteria got insanely jealous that someone made him grin. rip random cardew - it was on sight#ludius didn't question why she was suddenly beefing with a cardew - he was like okay‚ guess I'm beefing with him too#generation - capitol crypt

As a reminder, Wednesday the 19th we're starting our preview of Skyjoust– our sports anime inspired jousting competition series– on the Campaign feed. It will be two months of weekly episodes! As we get ready for that, let's meet some of the teams! (via twitter) The Burning Tails The Barmwhich Perrymen The Frog Princes The Jolly Ganders
I don't think the Campaign pod has been promoting Skyjoust on Tumblr yet, so I'm going to do it for them (hope thats ok lol)
y'all have no idea how hype I am about giant bird joust sports anime podcast!!! First episode previewing on the Campaign: Skyjacks podcast feed on the 19th!!
#skyjacks#skyjoust#each of those links is full team profiles about who the players are and why they Need To Win#the Burning Tails are the clear fan favorites in that two of the players are skyjacks: courier's call characters#they're the traditional sports anime protags; here for the love of the game#the barmwhich perrymen come from a small town that used to be a jousting capitol but has been GUTTED by capitalism#they have few resources and lots of attitude and they want to use that to make a name for themselves again and save their town#the Frog Princes are the reigning champions of the junior league owned by a main jousting club and a handful of wealthy sponsors#they were the favorite to win until they lost to the Jolly Ganders and barely made it into the quarter finals#and finally the Jolly Ganders are the clear heels of the show. the team name was recently bought out by a new sponsor#who completely rebuilt a team of ruthless competitors in order to bring more attention for the sponsor. and its working

on one hand, the met gala is an important fundraising event, and the money raised does go to the metropolitan museum of art’s costume institute. on the other hand, the met gala has become an show of wealth that feels completely divorced from reality, and it will probably continue going out of favour with the public unless it pivots to some sort of other format
#i love historical fashion and there is a purpose to the met gala#but also. seeing a bunch of celebrities in outrageously expensive outfits that are usually boring or ugly#feels like watching the capitol in the hunger games#i think it’d be cool if they made it more educational about historical fashion or just did. idek. something else with it#met gala
