Thousands of law enforcement officials and people applying to be police officers in India have had their personal information leaked online—including fingerprints, facial scan images, signatures, and details of tattoos and scars on their bodies. If that wasn’t alarming enough, at around the same time, cybercriminals have started to advertise the sale of similar biometric police data from India on messaging app Telegram.
Last month, security researcher Jeremiah Fowler spotted the sensitive files on an exposed web server linked to ThoughtGreen Technologies, an IT development and outsourcing firm with offices in India, Australia, and the US. Within a total of almost 500 gigabytes of data spanning 1.6 million documents, dated from 2021 until when Fowler discovered them in early April, was a mine of sensitive personal information about teachers, railway workers, and law enforcement officials. Birth certificates, diplomas, education certificates, and job applications were all included.
Fowler, who shared his findings exclusively with WIRED, says within the heaps of information, the most concerning were those that appeared to be verification documents linked to Indian law enforcement or military personnel. While the misconfigured server has now been closed off, the incident highlights the risks of companies collecting and storing biometric data, such as fingerprints and facial images, and how they could be misused if the data is accidentally leaked.
“You can change your name, you can change your bank information, but you can't change your actual biometrics,” Fowler says. The researcher, who also published the findings on behalf of Website Planet, says this kind of data could be used by cybercriminals or fraudsters to target people in the future, a risk that’s increased for sensitive law enforcement positions.
Within the database Fowler examined were several mobile applications and installation files. One was titled “facial software installation,” and a separate folder contained 8 GB of facial data. Photographs of people’s faces included computer-generated rectangles that are often used for measuring the distance between points of the face in face recognition systems.
There were 284,535 documents labeled as Physical Efficiency Tests that related to police staff, Fowler says. Other files included job application forms for law enforcement officials, profile photos, and identification documents with details such as “mole at nose” and “cut on chin.” At least one image shows a person holding a document with a corresponding photo of them included on it. “The first thing I saw was thousands and thousands of fingerprints,” Fowler says.
Prateek Waghre, executive director of Indian digital rights organization Internet Freedom Foundation, says there is “vast” biometric data collection happening across India, but there are added security risks for people involved in law enforcement. “A lot of times, the verification that government employees or officers use also relies on biometric systems,” Waghre says. “If you have that potentially compromised, you are in a position for someone to be able to misuse and then gain access to information that they shouldn’t.”
It appears that some biometric information about law enforcement officials may already be shared online. Fowler says after the exposed database was closed down he also discovered a Telegram channel, containing a few hundred members, which was claiming to sell Indian police data, including of specific individuals. “The structure, the screenshots, and a couple of the folder names matched what I saw,” says Fowler, who for ethical reasons did not purchase the data being sold by the criminals so could not fully verify it was exactly the same data.
“We take data security very seriously, have taken immediate steps to secure the exposed data,” a member of ThoughtGreen Technologies wrote in an email to WIRED. “Due to the sensitivity of data, we cannot comment on specifics in an email. However, we can assure you that we are investigating this matter thoroughly to ensure such an incident does not occur again.”
In follow-up messages, the staff member said the company had “raised a complaint” with law enforcement in India about the incident, but did not specify which organization they had contacted. When shown a screenshot of the Telegram post claiming to sell Indian police biometric data, the ThoughtGreen Technologies staff member said it is “not our data.” Telegram did not respond to a request for comment.
Shivangi Narayan, an independent researcher in India, says the country’s data protection law needs to be made more robust, and companies and organizations need to take greater care with how they handle people’s data. “A lot of data is collected in India, but nobody's really bothered about how to store it properly,” Narayan says. Data breaches are happening so regularly that people have “lost that surprise shock factor,” Narayan says. In early May, one cybersecurity company said it had seen a face-recognition data breach connected to one Indian police force, including police and suspect information.
The issues are wider, though. As governments, companies, and other organizations around the world increasingly rely on collecting people’s biometric data for proving their identity or as part of surveillance technologies, there’s an increased risk of the information leaking online and being abused. In Australia, for instance, a recent face recognition leak impacting up to a million people led to a person being charged with blackmail.
“So many other countries are looking at biometric verification for identities, and all of that information has to be stored somewhere,” Fowler says. “If you farm it out to a third-party company, or a private company, you lose control of that data. When a data breach happens, you’re in deep shit, for lack of a better term.”

Hello India, please feel free to answer this in public. I wanted to ask you something about this post in particular the cleanliness clause: https://www.tumblr.com/indiaalphawhiskey/701448319966248960/if-you-dont-mind-can-you-please-explain-what-a?source=share
I was genuinely terrfied when I read that something like that exists. I mean I think this is legitimate proof that Larry were closeted against their will contractually, what do you think?
Also you said that if they did anything unsavory, their contract would be declared null and void, right? But why is that a bad thing, to me it seems really positive? If their contract would be declared null and void, wouldn't they be free of that awful contract (and have the potential to be a couple in public) and maybe sign to a new and better label?
Hi!
So first off, as I’ve said before, I’m not a lawyer and I have no experience in the music industry, so everything I say is inference based on: i) my general knowledge of the objectives of contracts in general, ii) contractual obligations I’ve seen exercised in my own industry, and iii) observations we’ve made about the inner workings of the entertainment industry over my years in fandom.
TL;DR - take what I say with a grain of salt, please.
So, yes, cleanliness clauses are a thing, and they’re actually pretty standard. They take many forms (from simple brand guidelines to the more extreme version Harry alluded to in BH&G), but at their most benign, they’re usually just a way for brands/organizations/corporations to pragmatically ensure their collaborators align with their image as a brand and don’t do anything to besmirch their name (see: Adidas’ very delayed dropping of Kanye West).
Is that solid, undeniable proof that Harry and Louis were forcibly closeted in One Direction?
Nothing ever really is.
But yes, in the sense that people who know enough about the inner workings of the entertainment industry clearly know what “unsavory” pertains to (considering the image of Harry that was pushed at the time didn’t discourage drinking, drugs, or sex with women by any means, so clearly it wasn’t about making him look like a church boy).
No, in that, as usual, the wording Harry (and most likely, the contract) uses is vague enough not to allude to anything that might, say, break certain anti-Discrimination laws and leave very powerful labels and management vulnerable to legal action.
Which leads me to your next point. I think what people often forget about contracts is that literally 99.9999999% are written with the objective of protecting the company, not the individual. And given what we know about the way the entertainment industry works (you know, the same industry that literally refused to release Ke$ha from her record contract with her assailant), it’s easy to deduce that “null and void” isn’t as straightforward as the wording made it sound.
Rather, what it probably means is that the record label’s obligation to support, promote, and also protect their commodity (the artist) is “null and void”, and now that the artist is no longer seen as a lucrative asset, the label will also no longer see the point in investing in them. But, like I said, contracts are designed to protect the label, and protect their previous investment and any output of that investment in perpetua, which probably means:
I) MINIMUM: a long-standing non-compete clause (so any of the boys who broke their contracts probably would not be able to sign with anyone else or make/own/perform any old/new music for at least enough time for their fanbase and appetite for them as artists to fade),
Or
II) MAXIMUM (and frankly, most common): since contracts are usually based on number of albums produced, being blackballed and shelved by their own label so the artist can’t fulfill their contractual obligations and are bound to their original contract forever.
There are obviously many other details and permutations of the kind of consequences breaking a cleanliness clause could entail, but basically, given how high profile One Direction was and how much money they were making, it’s highly, highly unlikely (read: fucking impossible) that Simon or anyone else from Syco would have willingly let them continue to make music for anyone else, let alone let them negotiate better contracts with any of their competitors.

Ferment Brewing announces their first-ever lineup of year-around releases, including 12° Pils and India Pale Ale.
Press Release
May 23, 2023 — Today Ferment Brewing announces its first-ever lineup of year round beers in cans — a selection of five fan favorite beers. The two newest-to-can offerings, 12° Pils and India Pale Ale, are also the first recipes Brewmaster Dan Peterson wrote for Ferment and remain his favorites. Joining them are three well-loved beers previously available as rotating seasonals — Hana Pils, Lost in Fragaria, and Nitro Dry Stout.
Each can in the year-round lineup is digitally printed, as Ferment has officially made the switch from labeled cans in order to reduce the brewery’s environmental impact; printed labels can cause issues with the recyclability of aluminum cans.
“Each of these beers are special to me in their own way so this is a really exciting moment for me and our team,” said Dan Peterson. “Nitro Stout, 12° Pils and the India Pale Ale are beers that I opened the brewery with and the latter two are finally getting their time to shine in cans. Hana Pils and Lost in Fragaria were more experimental and I wasn’t sure how’d they do, but the recipes turned out fantastic and their popularity continues to grow. I’m really happy that now drinkers around the Pacific Northwest can grab these beers year round no matter where they live.”
12° Pils is a Czech-style lager with malted barley from Bohemia, harmonized with Saaz hops from Czechia, and naturally soft, pure spring water from the base of Mt. Hood. In addition to new 16oz can 4-packs, Ferment’s taproom is now serving the beer in Czech-style mugs from side pull tap for a smoother pour and foamier head.
India Pale Ale is carefully crafted and left unfiltered to fully express a medley of ingredients from England and the Pacific Northwest. Rahr malt, Simpson malt, and wheat form a base that is biscuity and lightly sweet. A dry hopping of Cascade, Crystal, and Mosaic hops come together with East Kent Golding and Fuggle hops to impart an herbaceous and complex aroma of peach, tangerine, and red cedar without being buried by bitterness.
Brewed with toasted rice for a slight nuttiness, Hana Pils is a Japanese-style rice lager with flavor layers of wildflower, fruit blossom, and melon. This crisp and clean lager clocks in at 4.8% ABV and is available in 12oz 6-pack cans.
Lost in Fragaria is a bright pink, full-bodied sour ale, bursting with 28 pounds of Oregon strawberries per barrel and a subtle dry-hop charge of Hull Melon hops. This deliciously refreshing beer is 5.6% and available in 12oz 6-pack cans.
Nitro Dry Stout, Dan Peterson’s favorite shift beer, is a 4.5% ABV easy sipper with a delicate roast quality, inspired by the midnight black ales of Dublin. Give the 16oz can a decent shake before pouring into a tall glass for a beautiful cascading nitro effect.
All five beers are available throughout Ferment’s distribution channels in Oregon and Washington.
About Ferment Brewing Co. Ferment Brewing Co. opened in 2018 as a 20-barrel brewery and tasting room overlooking the Columbia River in Hood River, Oregon. Financial modeling is a crucial skill for professionals in finance, investment banking, private equity, and corporate finance. It involves creating a representation of a company’s financial performance, which can be used for decision-making, forecasting, and valuation. To build effective and reliable financial models, it’s essential to follow certain best practices. In this article, we will explore the financial modeling best practices that can help ensure your models are robust, user-friendly, and adaptable to various scenarios, particularly for the Indian audience.
Here are the 9 Financial Modeling Best Practices
1. Define the Purpose of the Model
Before starting your financial model, clearly define its purpose. Are you creating a model for investment analysis, budgeting, or a merger and acquisition scenario? Understanding the objective helps in structuring the model effectively. For instance, if you’re building a model for a startup in India seeking funding, focus on revenue projections and cash flow analysis, which are critical for attracting investors. This clarity is one of the fundamental financial modeling best practices.
2. Maintain a Logical Structure
A well-structured model enhances usability and minimizes errors. Organize your model into distinct sections such as inputs, calculations, and outputs. Typically, the layout should follow these components:
Input Sheet: This includes all the assumptions and drivers (like growth rates, costs, etc.). Make sure to highlight these inputs clearly, as they are fundamental for any financial model.
Calculation Sheet: This section carries out all the necessary calculations. Use separate tabs for different calculations to avoid clutter.
Output Sheet: This displays the key outputs and metrics, such as financial statements (income statement, cash flow statement, and balance sheet), ratios, and charts.
Having a logical structure is one of the most crucial financial modeling best practices, especially for Indian professionals dealing with complex financial scenarios.
3. Use Consistent Formatting
https://businessviewpointmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/19.1-Use-Consistent-Formatting-Image-by-utah778-from-Getty-Images.jpg
Consistency in formatting enhances the readability of your financial model. Adopt a uniform style for headings, subheadings, fonts, and colors. For instance, you can use bold for headings, italics for input cells, and a distinct color for formulas. Additionally, using clear labels for rows and columns ensures users can navigate the model effortlessly.
In the Indian context, where multiple stakeholders may interact with the model, ensuring a clean and consistent format is paramount. This consistency aids in avoiding confusion and errors, thereby embodying another of the essential financial modeling best practices.
4. Implement Error Checks
Building error checks into your model can save time and enhance reliability. Use formulas that ensure inputs align with expectations. For example, if your revenue growth rate exceeds a certain percentage, include checks that flag these instances for review. This will help you catch any anomalies early in the modeling process.
Implementing these error checks is particularly vital in India, where businesses often deal with fluctuating market conditions and regulatory challenges. By embedding these checks, you adhere to the best practices of financial modeling, enhancing the model’s integrity.
5. Use Dynamic Formulas
Static formulas can lead to errors and make the model less flexible. Instead, opt for dynamic formulas that can adapt to changes in inputs. For instance, using functions like INDEX, MATCH, or OFFSET allows your model to respond to changes without requiring a complete overhaul.
In the Indian business environment, where economic factors can change rapidly, dynamic formulas enable financial models to remain relevant and useful over time. This adaptability is a key component of the financial modeling best practices.
6. Document Your Assumptions
https://businessviewpointmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/19.2-Document-Your-Assumptions-Image-by-utah778-from-Getty-Images.jpg
Transparency is crucial in financial modeling. Document your assumptions clearly within the model, preferably in a dedicated section or tab. This documentation should include justifications for each assumption, allowing users to understand the rationale behind your projections.
For Indian businesses, where stakeholders may vary widely in terms of financial literacy, this documentation becomes even more important. Providing a clear context for assumptions enhances the credibility of your model, which aligns with the core financial modeling best practices.
7. Stress Test Your Model
Conducting stress tests on your financial model can help identify vulnerabilities. Create scenarios where key variables change dramatically—such as economic downturns, changes in regulations, or shifts in consumer behavior—and analyze how these scenarios impact your financial forecasts.
For Indian companies, where market dynamics can fluctuate unexpectedly, this practice is particularly relevant. Stress testing ensures that your model is not only built for success under normal conditions but is also resilient against adverse situations, reinforcing the need for this best practice in financial modeling.
8. Keep It User-Friendly
A financial model should be intuitive and user-friendly. Avoid overly complex calculations that require extensive explanations. Use clear labels and provide instructions for navigating the model.

Top 5 Key Factors Driving Consumer Behavior in Profitable Restaurants: Premium Design and Build Strategies for Success
Before we start talking about the current trends in consumer behaviour, let us first understand the basics of the food and beverage industry. Well, the first thing you need to know is that it is massive. It encompasses everything at once, like- bars, cafes, restaurants, manufacturers and even food transportation. Did you know that the F&B industry serves the livelihoods of about 7.3 million people in India, according to ET Hospitality World, making it one of the most significant sectors in the country? It also acts as a catalyst for various other sectors, like- retail, agriculture and transportation.
When COVID-19 hit, all major outlets suffered a setback; restaurants, cafes, and all public spaces went silent. It affected every business. But perhaps the most affected industry was the food and beverage industry. Consumers went from hanging out at cafes to ordering in and even ordering groceries online. Fortunately, this wouldn’t last for long as the world recovers. We have witnessed the resurgence of in-person dining as a result of revenge dining, which is making the best of every situation when people lacked the chance to go out during COVID-19.
The design has been the central theme of every restaurant and cafe designers as it attracts consumers. Ambience plays an important role in this venture. The amalgamation of comfort and safety caters to new consumer preferences. From outdoor seating to flexible indoor layouts, the new outdoor dining experience has everything. Consumers are also placing more value on sustainable and eco-friendly products, showing a willingness to switch to different food and beverage brands to align with their new criteria. According to changing consumer behaviour, factors affecting them also evolve. Let us get into these factors at length.
1. Adding Value to Nutrition
We all know that when it comes to food, taste, flavour and smell are the catalysts that drive consumers to satisfy their cravings. What if we told you that these factors have become limited over time and have been replaced by nutritional weightage? A survey conducted by the International Food Information Council in 2020 found that approximately 54% of consumers consider the healthfulness of food when making purchase decisions. The percentage was more inclined towards the younger generation. Thanks to the information provided on social media, the population is now becoming increasingly aware of their health choices. The rise of new consumerism has, therefore, triggered reactions from restaurants and food brands that are currently making room for healthier menus, transparent lists of ingredients, and nutritional information. They have also emphasized the sustainable and organic ingredients that conform to this growing demand for clean eating.
These businesses stand to gain in the changing landscape of increasing healthful food options and straightforward, honest communication of information between companies and customers. This shift can lead to improvements not only in meeting consumer demand but also in promoting a generally healthier society.
2. Environmental Concerns
To minimize their carbon footprints, many environmentally-conscious consumers are now opting for a plant-based diet. Food that is sustainably sourced is now gaining traction and becoming increasingly popular. It is now becoming very common to have plant-based menus at cafes and restaurants.
Restaurants adopting these trends are not only catering to a growing demographic but also leading toward a more sustainable and ethically sourced food industry. Putting plant-based and responsibly sourced foods on their menus not only promotes better brand images but also broadens customer bases while making a positive mark on the planet.
3. Clean- Labelling practices
One more thing attributed to changing consumer behaviour is clean labelling practices. The simpler, the better, is their mantra. Do you ever see the ingredient lists, and it makes you more confused than ever? Well, clean labelling eliminates this practice. It focuses mainly on natural and minimally processed ingredients that customers can easily understand. Clean labels appeal to those looking to make educated decisions supporting their wellness objectives. Customers profit from this trend, pushing producers to use more sustainable and transparent production methods. Clean labelling goes beyond marketing to regulatory compliance, product quality, consumer trust, and ethical production practices. It is a space that, as the trend evolves, will likely shape significant parts of the future food industry into more sustainable and friendly practices for consumers globally.
4. Culture
Culture is a significant drive in determining what and how we eat—food choice, taste preference, and views on food. This is due to different cultural food traditions and beliefs. For instance, people will have more or less willingness to venture into trying new foods: it all depends on their cultural background, the policies of their country, or the prevailing social environment. In a connected world like today, food companies need to understand cultural differences to be able to cater to diverse tastes. In other words, people’s perception and acceptance of foods are culturally determined, which includes familiarity with the foods, the language under which food marketing is done, and the environment of the foods as part of their culture. From premium restaurants to street food vendors, everyone is now heavily influenced by ramen and Japanese cuisine, leading us to believe that cultural ties are strengthened through food.
5. The Ambience
The experience and ambience of a restaurant make the very first impression and foster an experience. This means that lighting, decor, and music all come into play, which controls the mood and the customer’s expectations; on the other hand, a unique ambience will usher in memorable moments that complement the culinary delights. Not only does such an ambience add to the taste of the meal, but it also provokes the diners to share the experience with others, making this restaurant more attractive for business. Furthermore, a restaurant space can reflect the identity and ethos of the restaurant, introducing layers of complexity to the dining experience. It also assures returning customers about the quality and experience they will get, building great loyalty and, hence, an excellent brand reputation.
Conclusion
The food and beverage sector is experiencing major changes due to new technologies and changing customer expectations. Consumers are increasingly demanding thorough information about sourcing, production processes, and ethical standards, therefore, transparency and sustainability have become critical. These developments do, however, carry some inherent dangers, which require strict quality controls, aggressive regulatory compliance, and strong risk management.
To remain competitive, firms must embrace a holistic strategy that integrates cutting-edge technologies, moral sourcing, and quick response to market shifts. Through the implementation of creative solutions and a focus on transparency, brands may establish consumer loyalty and trust, guaranteeing adherence to changing regulations and attaining steady expansion and a competitive edge in a constantly changing marketplace. Innovation and tradition, efficiency and sustainability—all need to be balanced for the food and beverage industry to grow and become a reliable, vibrant sector that caters to the demands and values of contemporary consumers.

In the fast-paced world of product packaging, innovation drives efficiency and sustainability. One such groundbreaking solution is in-mould labeling (IML). Designed to merge labels with products during the manufacturing process, IML offers unparalleled advantages in aesthetics, durability, and cost-effectiveness. Renowned in-mould labels manufacturers in India, particularly those in Kolkata, are at the forefront of providing cutting-edge solutions for businesses worldwide.
What Are In-Mould Labels (IML)?
In-mould labels are labels fused with containers or packaging during the molding process. Unlike traditional labels glued or stuck onto products, in-mould labelling integrates the label into the container itself, creating a seamless and durable finish.
How Does In-Mould Labelling Work?
IML involves placing pre-printed labels inside a mold before injecting molten plastic. As the plastic solidifies, the label becomes part of the product’s surface. This integration ensures a flawless appearance and increased resilience.
Advantages of In-Mould Labels (IML)
1. Enhanced Durability
Labels applied through in-mould labelling are highly resistant to wear and tear, scratches, and moisture. This makes them ideal for products that face rough handling or exposure to harsh environments.
2. Superior Aesthetics
In-mould labels offer high-quality prints and a seamless finish, elevating the overall appeal of products. Businesses can incorporate vibrant designs, detailed images, and intricate textures to make their packaging stand out.
3. Cost-Effective Solution
By eliminating the need for secondary labeling processes, IML reduces production costs. The streamlined manufacturing process also saves time, making it a cost-efficient solution for high-volume packaging.
4. Eco-Friendly
Since both the label and the container are made from the same material (usually plastic), in-mould labels facilitate easier recycling. This aligns with the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions.
5. Tamper-Resistant
Labels fused into the product are virtually impossible to remove, ensuring tamper-proof packaging. This is particularly beneficial for industries like food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
Applications of In-Mould Labels
1. Food and Beverage Industry
In-mould labels are widely used in food-grade containers, including yogurt tubs, butter packs, and juice bottles. Their durability and hygiene standards make them a preferred choice.
2. Household and Personal Care Products
Products such as detergent containers, shampoo bottles, and cleaning agents benefit from the aesthetic appeal and resilience of in-mould labels.

From lubricant containers to industrial product packaging, in-mould labelling solutions ensure durability and a professional appearance.
