Absolutely (Not) the Same Man
Regeneration and Identity
I really l like way Christmas Invasion presents regeneration and how Rose and Ten in-universe seem to understand.
Harriet Jones says that Ten is “absolutely the same man”. Rose does not agree despite being in the scene.
She agrees that 10 is the Doctor, but…not the same. She still loves him and sees the fundamental values being retained but she sees them as different.
She unequivocally says “you’re so different”. She’s beaming when she says it, clearly not missing Nine but rather mystified by Ten. It’s so subtle, (and a lot comes from Billie’s delivery) but even after accepting it, there is something alien about the process lingering.
It’s why I don’t fault her for being upset by the potential regeneration in Journey’s End, it’s the same reason we all are sad to see a Doctor go.
Because the fundamental character traits that we love will be there (you know…hopefully) but everything else will change. Their personalities and the ways they interact with the universe and the way they see themselves all changes. All the quirks and eccentricities that make up the characterization specific to one incarnation of the Doctor as a character, which are what we latch onto change.
We may like who gets tagged, whoever is now ‘it’. But there’s still a friend we’ll miss.
This Doctor wears pinstripes and trainers, instead of leather and combat boots. He willingly wears a paper crown.
He is domestic in a way Nine would never be. He doesn’t tempt Rose from a family dinner, he joins her at one of his own volition, then relishes in it while wearing a paper crown.
I do think this works particularly well here, because it feels like a character arc. It helps Ten feel like an actual extension of Nine. I think this why that it works for them to have the same TARDIS and first companion. It makes the change easier.
Nine was reminded of the beauty of living through Rose and humanity, and reminded ordinary humans that there was no such thing. I love the moment he has with the couple in Father’s Day for this reason.
Ten, in concept and practice, takes this love for humanity and runs with it. (Sometimes way too far depending on the writer. But that’s another meta). He’s more open with his feelings while still being deeply, deeply repressed.
Arguably, I think there’s a moment he tries to learn from his mistakes with Rose. He tries to relay the happy memory of Christmas dinner to Donna before it becomes something else he’s lost. All of her other attempts at connection are shut down.
Later, he’s able to find some respite with Donna in series 4. He’s able to live with his grief and heal for a bit. And he gives Donna a chance to realize that there’s no such thing as an ordinary human.
Then he has to take it all away. All of the edges Donna had softened out, the self-confidence she built up so she didn’t need to scream at the world to feel heard. Gone.
His best friend, just like the love of his life. Gone. And this time it’s like never happened at all.
It’s the last important arc before Time Lord Victorious for a reason.
(it’s honestly more thematically satisfying to go straight to Waters of Mars after series 4)
It’s why he comes to see regeneration as dying.
It’s how we get from “All I did was change” in Born Again, to “It’s like dying.” in the of End of Time
He just watched the identity of his best friend be ripped from her. Plus he feels emotions with more humanity than any incarnation. He feels the fear of identity loss like a human fears mortality.
(This was also before the Doctor had been given more regenerations, and post-war he was burning through them, and was over half through them, so there’s an added layer there)
I never for a second felt he was “throwing a tantrum” in Journey’s End.
I hate when people, including the in universe 11th doctor, say that Ten is vain.
I mean he is. Sometimes it’s done for laughs, but he is arrogant too. Usually it’s well-meaning. He does have more knowledge than anyone and wants to use that to help.
He might be a genius, but he doesn’t understand every intricate detail of human experience. And to be fair, 11 is talking about the metacrisis, but even before Donna’s fate, Ten has begun to project the human fear of death he’s adopted along with all the other emotions onto regeneration.
Journey’s End is the end of a vanity trip. He is stripped down and deeply, deeply scared. And he is allowed to be. And he can react in an intense, emotional way.
There is no hesitation between the knocks and the resignation falling across his face.
There is no doubt what he’s going to sacrifice for Wilf no matter how afraid he is.
Because as intensely as Ten feels fear, it is nothing to how much he loves.

Still thinking about my pokemas quotes dive. Mainly about Lorelei. Wanna make hcs for her sooo bad but I can't figure out where to start. Here's what I do know.
Used to be a sickly and lonely child. Was pretty much stuck in her room by herself with just her stuffed pokemon. Hence her love for cute things.
Traveled a lot sometimes in her past. Dreamed of finding an Aurora.
Four island is ,I think, the furthest away from all the islands, and requires a special pass to get to. It's pretty isolated, even for a standard island .
Has a deep connection to pokemon; values their thoughts and feelings, and seems to have a disdain for those who mistreat them.
Oh, and she canonically caught her Lapras in the ice caves.
So just from all of that, I kinda have some....ideas? For one, I think Lorelei is a tiny bit aloof, mostly due to her upbringing and isolation of four islands. While she handles herself with grace, I can imagine her early years as a trainer were....awkward. Being from the islands, being so aloof, and definitely not being used to interacting with more than a handful of people was a recipe for pre conceived notions and ice cold glares. Not to say that the ice hold glares stopped, but she's far more eloquent than how she used to be.
We don't know much about Lorelei's parents or grandparents or any other relatives she could have. But the fact that she distinctly remembers that she was very lonely with only her stuffed pokemon for company is telling me. My take is that her parents were pretty absent in her life, even when they took her to four island for her health. Even when she got better, they still weren't around. Four island isn't the smallest island, I believe, at least population wise, but again, those years just cooper up in her room definitely hindered her ability to connect with any children her age.....hence why I think she spent most of her time in icefall cave, despite it's danger.
Her catching Lapras was. Risky. I think. From my knowledge it seems to be the first pokemon she ever caught? So either she bonded with it for a while before catching it or Lorelei fought for her life to prove her worth. Or both. I think it caused a bit of an uproar really. Varying reactions, some in awe, some in shock. Some in fear. But it was fine because she had a new friend in Lapras.
To skip going full biography here: Being an elite 4 wasn't something she ever really considered. Her main goal when she was younger was traveling around in a way she wasn't allowed to when she was younger. But I think her reputation as " the little girl that caught that Lapras" and " the coldest trainer of all sevii islands" caught some attention from the league. I think she denied at first, again prioritizing traveling, but overtime her desire to be stronger , to protect pokemon, grew. So eventually, she ends up taking up that offer and started training to become an elite ( who trained her? Probably Agatha or Pryce).
Aaaand yeah. That's all I have so far lol.

40 to 60
awwwwww yiSSSSSSS
40. What is the wildest thing your OC has done?
Not exactly one for being super wild, but they have a habit of underestimating energy drinks and drink quite a few of them, or when they get a particularly good haul they sometimes spend it on cool shiny rocks. They can be quite careless like that, but r o c k s.
41. What is your OCs motto about life?
They don’t tend to have a lot of mottos about life, just trying to take it easy, understand things and see the sights. They try not to worry about the future, life has been out of control enough. They tend to cross bridges when they come to them whilst also being prepared; it’s the past they have problems with. They try and remember what their mother taught them, especially when it comes to using violence. They’re not of the strongest disposition but they’ll only fight when they have to. Life shouldn’t have to be about struggle and suffering, you shouldn’t have to put up unnecessary fights in order to learn and grow. You just gotta take care of yourself.
Of course, when Ego reveals a very horrible truth, violence is pretty much the key, alongside the assertion of human connection and individuality. The latter part is just as important.
42. Does your OC drink coffee or tea?
Coffee, but their eyes usually get caught by energy drinks and interesting sodas. Which certainly gives them an interesting buzz and they really like collecting the cans or bottles. Makes them think of the differences compared back to Earth, which can make them terribly nostalgic.
43. Who is your OCs biggest hero?
Their mother. They have the biggest connection to them and admire them a lot; her values have stayed with them despite everything. They often despair at what happened to her and how things could’ve been, feeling very much cheated but still wanting to carry around her memory and values because she was the most stable figure in their life that meant a great deal. Like anybody would, it becomes absolutely soul destroying that you’re now stuck on a planet alone with a father that killed your mother, where they find even more of a reason to keep her memory and that connection alive, in more ways than one.
44. What colour eyes does your OC have?
They take a lot after their mother and have predominantly hazel-green eyes. I feel it made a lot of sense because they started off as a self insert, and they’re very close to their mother. It very much represents nature and growth as opposed to Ego’s destruction of everything to remake it in his image and it’s very clear that they’re not whatsoever like their father at all, in the end. I thought this would be suitable symbolism where we get to see a real growth in their abilities and more of an understanding of a connection with their mother.
45. Does your OC like reading?
Since they’re usually cruising space in their own ship, it’s one thing they like to do. Apart from listen to their music, they manage to have one book from Earth that was in their bag when they were abducted and that’s the War of the Worlds (in a clearly more battered condition) which their mother bought for them after they got interested in the musical version. It takes their mind off of things, which browsing libraries on different planets also happens to do. Especially Xandar, which they found to be the most peaceful and easy to reside in.
46. Is your OC loyal?
Well...they have enough trust issues and they’re more of a loner, so it’d take a lot for them to be convinced before loyalty comes into it. They’re already cynical enough by the time when they meet Ego, especially since they have a sense they aren’t aware of them not feeling great when someone of a particularly evil nature is nearby (which they always chalked up to allergies or eating the wrong thing - it’s not so bad in general but since Ego is on such a terrible level of evil they don’t suspect any connection until it’s too late). It probably helps that they’re only half Celestial but get more from their mother (which is symbolic in of itself that they were the ones that inherited the gene and somehow still get a good deal from their mother, that clearly meant something).
So, frankly, they’d rather avoid the company of others in general, and a whole lot of repressed feelings and trust issues just kinda explode out by the time they’re with Ego. There’s a lot of trauma they’ve had to deal with, and that’s hard enough when you’re travelling around the universe learning to survive and get on with things.
47. Does your OC tolerate violence?
Answered in this post.
48. What social class is your OC from?
I don’t know how our distinction between classes on Earth applies to outer space or different planets for that instance, but they’d be the equivalent of working class. A lot of the time they find space junk and get some of the profit in selling it; it’s just a case of making enough to get by and frankly they’re fine with that. There’s a lot they’d rather be doing but they need the money like anybody else. It doesn’t help the kind of rough environment they entered when they got abducted.
49. What country was your OC born in?
The south of England. Their mother was originally from the US and met Ego the first couple of times but had to leave with her family to the UK (she was in her early 20s and she was having problems finding work) and it was there she found out she was expecting and ended up having them there. She did see him the next couple of times when he came over after they were born but he said he eventually had to leave, even making the (broken) promise to come over and they’d go back together.
50. Does your OC cry easily?
Usually, but they had to learn to hide it when they got abducted, so they ended up managing to do much of it in their sleep. It was tolerated to an extent but they ended up keeping a lot to themselves because it made more sense that way. On their own ship they do end up crying a whole lot when interacting with much of their mother’s stuff they still held onto and a whole lot of it really comes out when they find out the truth about Ego. They do cry beforehand, out of anger, wistfulness and wanting to understand, but that all gets thrown out of the window and all the pain gets directed at him in the end. So frankly, though they’ve had to hide it a lot, it never went away and they are certainly a very emotional person.
51. What is your OCs favourite genre of music?
They don’t have a specific genre but they are partial to acoustic and rock, usually heavy, sometimes classic but especially pop rock.
52. How does your OC feel about insects?
They’re alright but they can be annoying. Especially when you’re travelling around in space, the breeds can get quite...interesting, so they’d rather stay far away from them. They weren’t the biggest fan of them on Earth but left them alone to do their own thing, although they did make an exception for butterflies.
53. What is your OCs sexual orientation?
Asexual. They’ve never really felt that spark with someone and is frankly kinda repulsed at the idea of sex, so they find other things to do. They prefer listening to music, reading and spending time at libraries at different planets, preferably Xandar. Which also takes their mind off of things. Though that doesn’t eveh take into account their own loner status and trust issues; they’ve just not felt that connection with anybody and would preferably not get involved anyway.
54. Does your OC smoke?
Never. Their mother was the first they learnt not to do it from and no matter what from that point on they never felt the need to. They had more than enough to deal with without taking up smoking.
55. What gender is your OC?
Nonbinary but leans towards a more masculine presentation. It took them a while to figure it out but frankly they were really in over their head with a lot of things, so they didn’t figure it out properly until they were more or less out of the environment they were abducted into. They were still pretty much dressing more gender neutral/masculine before then, but they eventually found a safer space to understand themselves.
Of course, this still really leaves them open to misgendering; they prefer they/them pronouns but don’t mind he/him; unfortunately they have been mistaken for female and been referred to with she/her pronouns which can be grating at the very least. Ego is the worst culprit as per usual, as even if he only becomes slightly aware, he can be kinda patronising about it and when the truth is revealed and hell breaks loose, he’s way more malicious about it.
56. What kind of clothes does your OC wear?
Always keen on them jeans and trainers, but often swaps out t-shirts and jumpers depending on how they feel. Leather jackets are a go to but they’re just as keen on wearing hoodies. They also find it really nice to wear fingerless gloves and when we find them when they see Ego, they’re wearing what looks like the equivalent of a bandana to keep the hair out of their eyes - it’s only later when they realise how sick they are of everything and let out a lot of repressed emotion that they just fucking---cut it off. But that’s their usual stuff - casual as hell, but we see a particular change in appearance when things really take a turn for the absolute WORST.
57. Would you call your OC adventurous?
Probably. They do like planet hopping and cruising around, even if they prefer to stick to some more favoured places like Xandar and their own ship. They just wanna be left alone and do their own thing. They just want to have that freedom away from things and find their own peace.
58. Is your OC introverted or extroverted?
Introverted. They predominantly find energy more or less by themselves and feel restless in social situations. Not that they mind it, but they prefer getting on with things by themselves just fine. Besides, they’re wary enough of things without getting involved in deep conversations and suchlike, generally. It takes a lot.
59. What is the first thing someone would notice about your OC?
They’re generally shorter and keep to themselves as they walk around, carrying headphones around their neck.
60. Does your OC enjoy nature?
Generally. When they were back on Earth, they used to go for a lot of walks in the country with their mother, especially since they were right near a whole lot of countryside. They haven’t managed to find the same feeling since, especially since they’re wary about the species on different alien planets. It was a whole different feeling on Ego’s planet though, which really took their fancy before...everything happened.

(Author sips coffee and sighs…)
February so far appears to be going pretty well.
Life is coming together very nicely – and with the possible exception of employment still being AWOL I have to say I’ve rarely been happier. This is more than mildly surprising because it’s fair to say that there was a time when I felt I’d never truly be accepted by the world or fit into it.
The truth is that I now feel a part of my surroundings and community in a way that I honestly never have before.
It’s never completely plain sailing mind you.
I guess it’s a feature of life (if it goes on long enough) that just when you think you’re sorted, on an even keel and have dealt with all of your demons that you find more of them popping out of the closet completely unannounced.
Amazingly – as painful (and deeply personal) as some of these can be to face up to – this time there is a significant difference. Now I’m not only, fitter, stronger, and more resilient – but I’m no longer dealing with them alone.
With a new relationship has come a gradual realisation that I no longer have to be the sole guardian of my self worth and belief – and that (in the same way as I hope I am in return) someone else now has a spare set of keys to my emotional vault.
That doesn’t mean they’re controlling of that element of me – it means that they are demonstrating again and again that they’re capable of not only enhancing but supporting me too.
Already I’m acutely aware that this is regularly making me think in ways that otherwise I would not have if I’d been left in splendid isolation.
It’s a pleasure (although sometimes also challenging) to see parts of myself that have been dormant for so long slowly whir back into life as I explore what it’s like to become ‘us’ rather than just ‘me’. Furthermore it’s great to have someone with many of the same – but also a continually surprising and divergent range of interests.
Again and again though I’m confronted with a pleasingly similar set of likes and dislikes.
I’d always thought in the back of my head that my taste in clothes (which is developing into a more colourful and flamboyant one all the time) would be a tough sell for a person that liked a more ‘buttoned down’ mode of dress.
All the designs I covet in shops however seem to not only meet with approval – but are greeted with enthusiasm – which is something I’m completely unused to.
Furthermore I’ve been introduced to a new set of clothing passions – which are (in some cases) things that I would never have previously considered – but now I find that I’m an ardent fan of as well.
Whilst I’ve never been particularly keen on high heels (the potential damage they can do to feet has always scared the living heck out of me) if they’re worn occasionally and they’re both unique and beautiful I find that I am inexplicably drawn to them.
At the weekend I was introduced to ‘Irregular Choice‘.
Oddly a regular twalking buddy had mentioned the online version of this shop before – but until I’d walked through the physical door of its premises in Brighton I’d not connected the dots and realised that it was the same place.
As regular readers will know I’m a seriously thrifty person.
My charity shopping habits are a matter of public record and I don’t like paying high street prices. Something has to either be heavily discounted in a sale or ‘pre-loved’ for me to consider buying it.
This has enabled a lot of experimentation – and I’m still going through a ‘developmental’ period in this respect.
However – there are some things that are so individual and beautiful that their cost is offset in my mind.
Sure – very little has changed in the ‘can Davey afford this kind of thing’ stakes (the answer is I cannot) but honestly there are some items that with the benefit of a regular income I’d definitely consider worthwhile.
Although I can wear nothing in this store it represents taste choices that I’ve never really considered – but that I suddenly love to bits. These shoes are the kinds of truly wonderful little pieces of art that I’d happily mount on my living room wall and admire from afar – yet they’re not much different in price from a pair of Clarkes or a mass produced pair of brand name trainers.
It blows my mind that I not only think this way – but that my opinions are shared. Not only is my experimental side okay but it’s suddenly something that’s being embraced with gusto.
Furthermore the nerdy geek in me (which represents a HUGE part of my personality) no longer feels the need to lurk in the background – which if I’m honest has not always been the case in the past.
Now when I linger peering excitedly into cabinets such as this there’s a murmer of approval nearby – and it’s nice to not feel like there’s any element of my personality that appears to need muting or modifying. The newly collaborative element in my life is also compatible when it comes other things too too – and thats great because something that I cannot do without is twalking.
This is so fundamental to who I am that without it I immediately feel like things are sliding in my life – or that I’m somehow heading for failure. It’s been so instrumental in my recent success that it’s forever going to dominate who I am as a person – and to know that I don’t have to hammer someone else’s square peg into my round hole is a joy that’s next to impossible to explain in words.
To know that when I’m navigating through a rainswept, muddy, miserable landscape framed by a grey sky with someone by my side that really doesn’t care what the weather is like as long as they’re outdoors is fantastic.
It’s much better though when the weather is just right and you can enjoy a cloudless blue sky while you sit down to look at the view whilst you sip your respective flasks of coffee and tea.
This weekend I’ve been exploring Birling Gap and the Seven sisters a little more.
However on Sunday I started at the other end of their span (last time I began my walk in Seaford – link) and I’ve decided that not only is it a really pretty little part of the world, but that I’m rather falling in love with it.
Despite my amorous inclinations though it’s also rapidly becoming the place in the world that I’m most likely to fall on my ass.
Although I never mentioned it in my previous posts this is the second time when I’ve unceremoniously felt my legs slip out from under me in the chalky mud around these parts. This glue like covering on the cliffs and in the nearby estuary has the habit of gumming up the tread on your boots and making it much harder to maintain a reliable grip.
When it’s combined with ice (as it was in the shaded parts of the seven sisters on Sunday) then it can result in a sore posterior and wrists – both of which invariably take the brunt of any sudden downward trajectory.
Thankfully it seems that another major benefit of me being a lot smaller these days is that my arms and ass remain unbroken when this occurs. All that gets damaged is my pride or the material in the rear of my trousers.
I don’t care though.
Muddy pants and boots are badges of pride – and I actually find it quite amusing that recently I’m slipping and sliding more than usual. As I headed home with the sun slowly going down over Cuckmere Haven the event barely even registered in my memory of the day.
My train of thought only moved on from the wonderful light and reflections when I started to think about what I was going to cook for dinner – which in this case was going to be for two.
This is a really positive new element in my life – because when I am preparing meals for someone other than just myself I eat noticeably less than I normally would when I’m on my own.
Not only am I more likely to keep to plan when I’m in company but during such evenings I typically spend much less time trying to modify or deal with the inevitable impact of solitary ‘boredom eating‘ – which if I’m honest has always been a big problem for me. It’s something that’s never really changed in all the time I’ve been attending Slimming World – or since I reached target.
My evenings have at times been a wasteland of cottage cheese pots, Aldi Benefit Bar wrappers and plum seeds or apple cores. I’m no different to anyone else with dietary demons in this respect.
It’s never really been a case of whether or not I will go off the rails – but how much I can limit the damage when I do.
Replacing this is a new push into making lovely meals that someone else can enjoy too – and thanks to many Slimming World food tasting sessions (and a willingness to experiment a little when they come around) I have a number of easy to make but delicious healthy meals in my cooking lexicon.
This ‘baked stuffed peppers’ example is something I first cooked (following guidance in a SW magazine) back in June 2016 (link) and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone that likes its ingredients.
I can confirm that it went down very well with its intended audience – and it’s so nice that this recipe is actually the reason that I started using 5% fat pork instead of beef mince in my chilli con carne.
It proved beyond a shadow of a doubt at the time that not only was it a significant upgrade from beef (I find that it’s far less chewy for one thing and almost identical in terms of calorie content) but the resulting taste was way better.
Furthermore its value (usually around £1 less than beef per 500g) seemed far more appealing because – since I cook a chilli every week without fail – this represented a saving of £52 per year – which for me is an entire week’s shopping in Aldi.
With all this good behaviour I’m well on track to being in target for my diamond member award – and last night when I attended one of Angie’s groups locally in Warwick I hit the weigh in nail squarely on the head.
After nearly a month out of group gallivanting around the country I managed a maintain – meaning I’m still smack bang on my target weight.
I’m still squarely in the middle of my target range – and this also means that the last entry in my book will hopefully be when I secure my diamond target member status.
I’m not sure I could have planned that if I’d tried – but when I do my Slimming World book will contain an entire and complete record of my journey from my first weigh in to this very significant milestone.
If you want to see the entire history of my losses (and occasional mis-steps) you can find them here (link) or have a look in my homepage menu.
If you’re on your own journey then I can’t overstate how important it is to keep a log of what you’ve done right (and wrong). If you’re following Slimming World I also urge you to take the time to update your progress online in the app or on their web page.
Their graphing tools have kept me on the straight and narrow throughout my time following the plan – and it never fails to fill me with a sense of pride when I see its variations slowly smoothing out into one long gentle curve downwards – followed by a (relatively) straight line.
Looking at a history of where you’ve come from and where you’ve ended up – as well as recognising that sometimes things will go a little topsy turvey and that if they do it’s totally normal is a real help in times when you really don’t feel like you can be strong or focused.
Anyway – my day is ebbing away internet and I need to get walking. I can’t sit here talking to you all day long, regardless of how nice it is to catch up.
Let’s do coffee again later in the week x
Davey
Shared flamboyance (Author sips coffee and sighs...) February so far appears to be going pretty well. Life is coming together very nicely - and with the possible exception of employment still being AWOL I have to say…

1. The silver lining..
For those who know me personally, you may be wondering why I’ve called this blog “such a wonderful life”? Well, “Wonderful Life” by Hurts is a song of significance to me. The lyrics start with:
“On a bridge across the Severn on a Saturday night, Susie meets the man of her dreams. He says that he got in trouble and if she doesn’t mind He doesn’t want the company But there’s something in the air They share a look in silence and everything is understood Susie grabs her man and puts a grip on his hand as the rain puts a tear in his eye. She says Don’t let go Never give up, it’s such a wonderful life Don’t let go Never give up, it’s such a wonderful life”
It’s about a man about to commit suicide, when he is stopped by a woman, she grabs his hand and assures him it will all be okay. The lyrics continue with her seeing his pain, they fall in love and he starts to believe her words. She saves him.
I used to listen to this song through my sickest and darkest days. This song still evokes strong emotion when I listen to it, I think because of the memory of how sick I was when I needed to hear these words the most. I remember countless nights in my early 20′s, feeling such immense loneliness and emotional suffering. It would be 2am or some ridiculous time, my insomnia in fine form and I’d just spent another day (like hundreds before that) home alone, too sick to watch tv, talk to anybody or do anything relatively normal. My level of pain and suffering was incomprehensible and honestly, I’m astonished I survived it. I used to meditate lying down, for hours on end just to try and alleviate some of my symptoms, then I’d lie on the couch listening to classical music as that’s all my body could cope with. If I wasn’t on the couch listening to music, I was in bed in complete silence and darkness, just breathing, hoping to fall asleep (but unable to) and waiting for another day to pass. So at 2-3-4am, when the magnitude of my isolation was felt the most, tears streaming down my face and all I could think about was falling asleep and hoping to never wake up, this song spoke to the deepest part of my soul. The part of me that knew life was worth fighting for and that I needed to try and hold on a little longer. You can listen to the song here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TB1x67Do5U
I have to tell you how glad I am that I did hold on. I survived years of suffering that I would not wish on my worst enemy. When you have no hope outside of that fire that burns within you, when doctors tell you you’re too sick to be treated and they don’t know how to help you, that you may never get better, the majority of your friends abandon you from lack of understanding and judgement and there is nothing in your day that brings you joy, distraction or relief. When you’re isolated beyond comprehension and left feeling like a worthless burden to those selfless enough to stick around and love and care for you regardless. I’m glad my multiple suicide attempts through those times were never successful. I’m glad the universe has kept me here. Now I have hope and the possibility of returning to a life where feeling joy, having the ability to participate in society and achieving my goals, will outweigh my level of suffering. I may even feel somewhat “normal”- now that’s a dream i’ve had for almost a decade.
In just over a month’s time, I will be travelling to the Hansa Center in Wichita Kansas for life-saving treatment for Late Stage Nuerological Lyme Disease and many other conditions this illness has graced me with. This trip has been a year in the making. Over 8 years of trialling endless treatments, a multitude of tests, dozens of doctors, anecdotal evidence from friends and fellow sufferers on their own journey and lastly a years research solely on this clinic and why this is my best shot at helping my body fight such a devastating disease. A disease that has robbed 12 years of my life, taken away my dreams and life plans, has control of all my organs (including my brain), nervous system and tissues, causes dozens (even hundreds) of debilitating symptoms and has actually made me grateful to be the person I am today.
I don’t want this blog to simply be about me harping on about how sick I am/was, treatments and other sad or challenging things. To me it’s about finding hope and positivity in whatever your circumstances and learning to be grateful for the lessons through things you cannot change or do not have control over. I want this blog to change the way you see the world, to inspire you to never give up, to fight for what you want and to face whatever it is that’s holding you back.
There is always something positive to come from any experience. A silver lining if you will. So here is mine: In my 2 years of “remission” (ages 18-20), though I didn’t know it was remission at the time, I was a very different person to who I am now. I was still kind-hearted, thoughtful, loving and a decent human being (in my opinion). But I was superficial and possibly too driven. I prided myself on how hard I could work and how much I could achieve. Rest or down-time was not something I cared for. I studied full-time and worked 2-3 jobs. Working less than 20 hours a week was not acceptable to me. I would head out with friends on weekends for big nights out, I was extroverted (still am) and very likeable. I found it easy to get along with anybody and make new friends. My looks were very important, as a personal trainer, exercise was my life and I loved being known as a “gym junkie.”
I valued myself on how I looked, men finding me attractive, my achievements and status of profession and how likeable I was to others. Basically, I sought value within myself through superficial and tangible parts of my life (as most of us do). So when I became ill, I lost everything that gave me a sense of purpose and made me who I was. A year into being diagnosed as chronically ill (age 21) and I became severely depressed, even suicidal, partly due to my ongoing isolation and grieving the loss of everything I once had. It took me a long time to learn how to re-build my self-worth from nothing. But I did it.
I slowly learnt the value of being grounded, the importance of genuine connection and meaningful relationships over going out and being liked by whomever I may meet. Now I’d rather have quality time with one good friend, than head out with 10 friends where the conversation is potentially shallow. I’ve learnt how to value myself despite my looks (I haven’t been able to exercise in 8 years and putting makeup on is only possible on really “well” days), despite being unable to work or whatever profession I may have in the future and despite being unable to contribute or participate in society like people expect. Those are the things society TELLS us are important, but if you take them all away, you’re left with nothing. Imagine losing all that shapes you as “you,” becoming a lifeless shell of your former self, how would you get through that and rebuild who you are?
So what’s important to me now above all else, is my integrity, morals and how I treat others. I’m a good person, I know this and that’s what matters. I also learnt how to say no. How to set boundaries and make sure that I take care of myself first and foremost and others second. I used to bend over backwards for people, but when I put people’s well-being before my own, it was usually for them to like me, to keep the peace, or out of fear they would abandon me if I didn’t help. So my intentions (although from a good place) were actually not genuine. I’ve learnt how to be true to myself and only say yes to things that serve me or things I am capable of doing whilst maintaining my own physical and emotional health. “You can’t pour from an empty cup,” remember that. I also learnt through counselling that you do yourself a disservice every time you step outside yourself and your core values, to simply please someone else. You become inauthentic and are essentially hurting yourself.
I’m still extroverted, but I’ve learnt how to be alone and embrace simply doing nothing. At 18 I couldn’t even sit through a yoga class, I thought it was “stupid” to waste time breathing deeply and relaxing. I used to get anxiety if it was a Saturday night and I wasn’t out doing something. I hated being on my own with nothing to do. However now, I actually enjoy time alone, doing nice things for myself like having a bath, cooking a healthy meal, going for a walk, sitting in a cafe drinking a coffee just watching people, spending a whole day on the couch binge-watching whatever show I am obsessed with at the time and more. It’s OK to do nothing and this took years for me to accept. But don’t get this confused with severe isolation when you are bedridden. That is when I wanted to die and being that sick, for that long with very limited social contact is beyond challenging and heart-breaking. I am very fortunate to not be THAT sick right now and to have the (although limited) freedom of making some choices on my better days.
Moreover, I learnt that my circumstances and life need no explanation. I don’t owe anybody anything. I used to justify and explain myself out of fear of judgement. The looks I get when I park in a disabled spot, or get pushed around the shops in a wheelchair, yet would hop out of it to look at something. Feeling unwell at an event and needing to go lie down or leave and not knowing how to tell someone, cancelling plans or suddenly becoming too unwell to speak, move or tolerate a normal sound or smell. It’s exhausting to feel the need to constantly justify your circumstances to people. So I don’t and I don’t care if people don’t “get it.” They’re not people I need in my life.
I’m also more than happy to put people in their place who feel the need to comment on my circumstances to which they know nothing about. Such as the social injustice warriors fighting for the rights of the disabled and their parking spots. I acknowledge their comment by telling them to go look at the VALID sticker on the dashboard that is registered to me. Ignorance is bliss and good for them, but I certainly won’t be a sitting duck to morons who think their opinion actually matters. I know people sick like myself who would benefit greatly from a disabled sticker, yet are too scared to get one because they may get nasty comments from onlookers as they are not in a wheelchair, of prehistoric age or missing a limb. This may mean the difference between them able to go to the shops or leave their house, something many take for granted. A friend once said (towards people like that) “It must be nice to have such a privileged opinion on disability when you are in full health.”
My point is, my view of the world and what I thought was important was guided by what society was telling me. Working hard, always being busy, looking good, putting others first and caring what people think. Being so sick from Lyme Disease gave me the time and necessity to build myself back up from nothing and to be able to think for myself. I don’t buy into superficial connections, fakeness, striving for things that will help my social status, people liking me, or doing something because “it’s what you do” or “society says,” because life is too short. What an absolute waste of time and energy that is.
I’m am empath and I’ve been fortunate enough to find the ability to listen to what my soul really needs in order to be authentic. I have honestly found my true self through all my heartache and I may not ever have had the chance to do that, if I didn’t get sick. You’ll see that I am unapologetically honest about who I am, my life, my desires, interests and dreams. I own who I am and what I want because I am at my happiest when I am true to myself. I don’t believe in filtering my life to ease others discomfort. If you’re uncomfortable, that’s not my problem and I gravitate only towards those who “get me” and embrace all that I am. I can’t tell you how elating that feels. I’ve lost friends because of who I am and choices I’ve made, as they were judgemental and couldn’t see past their own social conditioning and bubble of reality. Don’t get me wrong, that hurts, but they don’t deserve me in their life if that’s their mindset towards someone simply being who they are. This is an outlook people in their 40′s or 50′s start to tap into, when they get tired of living their life how they think they’re supposed to and they just want to be happy. I found this in my 20′s and what a beautiful gift that is.
If you meet me or have met me, I hope you feel that my energy is genuine, that I have depth, an ability to listen with intent to understand and not simply reply and that I honestly care for people. I have an outlook of positivity, I’m a solutions person and I always find a silver lining.
How did I get there though? Through my chronic illness journey I have studied Buddhism, found the benefits of Reiki, healing crystals, meditation, detoxing, mindfulness techniques, sought counselling for deep-seeded emotional traumas, read many self help books and more. I got to a point where my physical suffering was so severe and I had nothing to alleviate it, that I decided I needn't suffer more with emotional or mental pain. If I could at least control my mind and learn how to be happy or at peace through my suffering, then maybe I would either get through it, or at least die with some peace. Your mind and the way you view things has such immense power. This kind of growth didn’t only help me “find myself”, but I learnt that it is paramount to long-term recovery. My recovery didn’t start until AFTER I tapped into all these things.
So I need to express to sufferers out there, that you will NEVER get better if you do not deal with your “shit”, work on yourself and learn how to find peace through your suffering. We all carry trauma and if you’re sick, then it is a part of your chronic illness story. Don’t try to simply fix the physical. I’ve heard this from multiple practitioners and health experts as well, so it’s not just my anecdotal evidence or personal belief. The Hansa Center focus on emotional healing and (from my understanding) adhere to this same belief.
Thanks for reading. Next I will discuss the journey that led me to choosing Hansa and why I did. Make sure you hit “follow” for future updates.
Love xx

Vehicle Sales - Valuable Data For Investing In A Vehicle
Vehicle sales education dedicated to providing an attention grabbing revenue speech that ends the purchase at an unconscious level.
Many car sales representatives hit the customer with feature following feature. How boring. Is the consumer planning to buy a vehicle because of a specialized feature? Just how many of one's buyer's can even recognize engine pieces, or value the complex features? They will buy that car from you when you have shown them what the automobile will do for them. You've presented the benefits of the vehicle, that match their wants, needs, and deep desires.
Car Sales Reading
You understand most of the functions of your cars. You intend to show off your good knowledge in order to build standing together with your customer. But when you lose their interest you won't get them to that miraculous buying state. To move your web visitors to a psychological position wherever they are ready to buy you have to know what they want, and provide it for them in ways that matches to their view of the world.
They do not need a car
They want what the automobile is going to do for them. For a few it is a gleaming style item to attract admirers, and a speakers that's more essential than the safety features. For the others the vehicle is an essential software, or perhaps a trusted means of transport. The client that cranks up the miles enjoying their discretion time will dsicover an automobile from a different point of view compared to the everyday commuter. The caring parent needs a secure means for the family to travel, and may benefit from in-car entertainment. As the rebelling scholar may possibly need a unique statement on wheels that says who they are.
How have you been planning to meet that multitude of needs, needs, and wishes, with complex features about a machine made of plastic and material? The solution is, you are not. The options that come with the automobile are only ways of indicating how the car provides the buyer the benefits. You have to connect those characteristics and display how they'll produce real the photographs and thoughts they have about the vehicle they are likely to buy.
Never believe to learn what they need
The aforementioned instances are merely possible buyer needs. Use your abilities as a sales person to understand your customer's actual needs. An important car revenue instruction place is, the buyer may not be aware of their real desires. May that middle era man actually acknowledge to herself why he wants the low rider? He will tell you it's because he always needed one, and only today may he manage it. The client that lets you know they are concerned about the environmental surroundings may actually become more focused on the cost of fuel. Just how many 4 X 4 down road homeowners ever travel around anything higher than a speed get a grip on difficulty? Despite technical evidence that the gas guzzling 4 X 4 is not a safer car to operate a vehicle, several consumers still give safety as reasons why they drive one.
Good automotive income education is approximately matching features of the car to the advantages the buyer really wants. The client wants to accomplish a psychological sensation from their purchase. To comprehend those feelings, and recognize how they will obtain them, the client makes central pictures and holds inner dialogue. You will find the surface wants, wants, and dreams of the buyer, at the pondering point of the revenue process. But you will find car income techniques that support you obtain the greater emotional sparks, and not many sales people become qualified at using them.
Get the customer's true desires
What the client informs you they need may be only what they're ready to inform you, and are not their true desires. Beneath the top connection is going to be deeper needs the client has. For instance, contemplate the company supervisor that needs a car which will project their large status with their staff. At first glance they might offer you several reasons why they need a particular type of car. Reliability, image to clients, in a position to afford it, and a number of other reasons certain to them. The greater factors, that they are consciously conscious, could be that they need the others to be jealous, or to promote their very own position. It may also be that they want to showcase their wealth. It is unlikely that they can tell you this whenever you ask them what they need from a new vehicle. At a straight greater level you will have emotional benefits the buyer wants that aren't fully within their aware awareness. You will see benefits they want, their inner dreams, that they don't want to acknowledge to themselves.
Back once again to the business supervisor that lets you know they need an automobile that's reliable, looks appropriate for visiting clients, and is of their budget. They're not telling you about how they would like to present their wealth and place to others at work. If we get even deeper within their wants wants and desires, we're able to find other benefits that will shut the automobile sale at a nearly unconscious level. What if you believed the business supervisor really was really vulnerable about their position. That the image they need the automobile to challenge was to build barriers using their staff. By asking about previous cars they've possessed you're feeling they attended from a much lower revenue background. You study from their verbal, and non-verbal, communication they have to be continually showing themselves to others. Presenting an image of the wealth and position to over come their insecurities.
Take a new look at your car income teaching
Now envision the sales speech you might give if you'd that kind of understanding of your customers. Have a new look at your vehicle revenue training. Yes, you need to have a professional information about the complex details of the vehicles you sell. But you also need to know what issues to ask your web visitors, and how to learn the greater degrees of indicating in their answers. Everything you are actually looking for is their view of the planet, their place of reality. Then you can certainly suggest to them how your vehicle will squeeze into that view.
Let me provide you with a beginning point. Why do you really drive the vehicle that you now have? Be honest with yourself. Try to find some deeper feelings and become more home aware. Then study household, friends and colleagues. Speak in their mind, try to find inconsistencies. You are a sales person, you are able to read people. What is it by what the car does for them that fires up their experience? View for the issues that keep them bored, or bring out the negative signs. This is a several simple paragraphs about persons, maybe not cars, and it could be the start of a whole new way of selling for you.

Kendra Sledzinski: The Sprudge Twenty Interview
Welcome to The Sprudge Twenty Interviews presented by Pacific Barista Series. For a complete list of 2020 Sprudge Twenty honorees please visit sprudge.com/twenty.
Nominated by Kayla Baird
“How do I put into words how Kendra has affected my life and countless others? We met at Joe Coffee in New York five years ago and hit it off right away. Who was this friendly person, I wanted to know! Soon I became aware of Kendra’s influence in the coffee community of Philadelphia. When I went to visit her, everywhere we went, she knew someone. Kendra constantly went above and beyond in Philly to encourage professional development and community with the Joe staff and baristas of Philly—doing palate development and cuppings that were never required, but she knew how to make baristas stay. She works hard for her community, and works hard to lift other people up—and she does so selflessly. Thank you Kendra!”
What issue in coffee do you care about most?
Equal access to education, resources, and professional development and opportunities. The industry is incredibly complex with lots of moving parts and many issues more critical than this, but I say it because it’s within my immediate reach. So many coffee professionals start as baristas. I think back to the days when I subscribed to some elitist coffee thought and language, and I cringe when I think of it.
These days, I want to use my experience as a trainer and educator to empower people with the knowledge they can grow with. This means promoting diversity and giving someone who is only working in coffee because it’s the job they have just as much attention as someone who wants it as a career. It also means listening. I stayed interested in coffee early on in my career because I was lucky to have managers and leaders who took me and my curiosity seriously and encouraged me to grow and learn. When I was training baristas, I would tell them that regardless of how long they occupy the role, knowing how to make coffee well is a valuable (and employable) life skill. I had the time of my life as a barista made easier by safe, healthy, and supportive work environments. Because of that, it’s important to me to help others have a positive experience working in coffee, too.
What cause or element in coffee drives you?
The humanity of the entire value/supply stream. Coffee isn’t possible without the labors of humans and that is a fact that has never eluded me.
What issue in coffee do you think is critically overlooked?
The value of that labor on all ends of the supply stream. Producers are not paid enough for their coffee and baristas are not paid enough to make it, either. I don’t think this is overlooked and certainly do not want to oversimplify it, but I do think it’s an ongoing challenge and conversation that should not stop. I hope we can find ways in our industry to make those challenges and conversations more tangible and accessible to our customers and guests without being polarizing.
It starts with our offerings and even how we encourage them to engage with the coffees they buy—encouraging them to buy what they like, not what we think is best or more righteous. I think the pandemic has put a bit of a lens on all supply streams and how consumers buy and interact with products and goods. Maybe we’ll see some positive impacts of this in the aftermath. Either way, working in coffee isn’t sustainable for so many people. How can we make it so we can all be prosperous? I don’t have an answer but I’ll spend my life’s work trying to make it so.
What is the quality you like best about coffee?
Coffee is an arbiter of human connection, culture, and social change. The industry is a global community and cafes are community spaces. We can diversify and educate our communities by making those community spaces welcoming and inclusive to all. I went to journalism school because I wanted to see and understand the world, but a career in coffee has given me that in a different, more enriching, and meaningful way.
Did you experience a life-changing moment of coffee revelation early in your career?
There have been so many moments that impacted my trajectory and kept me going and eager to learn that it’s hard to pinpoint just one. However, there is no doubt that many of those early moments were facilitated by Betty Ortiz at Spruce Street Espresso. Spruce Street closed a long time ago, but Philadelphia coffee wouldn’t be what it is today without its influence.
What is your idea of coffee happiness?
Usually I’d say I’m outside a coffee shop with some buddies and we’re sipping, sharing, and laughing in the sunshine. Because that world doesn’t exist right now, it’s my first cup in the morning. I’ve been using brewing my coffee as a way to practice some mindfulness at the start of my day. I brew my cup and sit in my window to drink it. I don’t look at my phone, I don’t read the news. I just sit, sip, and watch the day get brighter.
If you could have any job in the coffee industry, what would it be and why?
In some ways, I’ve already had the job I wanted for so long. I love sharing the joy of learning about coffee and flavor with others. My own ambitions are still malleable. In my fantasy world, I have the means and financial security to start a cooperative company with a bunch of badass coffee friends. We will be approachable, we will provide a great working environment and pay well. People will want to work with us and we’ll lead by example by having a diverse team, balanced power, and transparent, accountable leadership. This, of course, will be after I live out the other part of my fantasy world that involves me learning everything I can about coffee production by studying or doing research and living and working in a producing country for an extended period of time. I have never wanted to stop learning or growing my coffee skill set and I never will!
Who are your coffee heroes?
Many of them are also included on the Sprudge Twenty list. What a true honor it is to be here with them! I am also fiercely inspired by Coffee At Large and really any organized group of coffee workers. Taking risks and standing up for what you believe in isn’t easy and it takes a lot of courage. Folks farther ahead in their careers can learn a lot about workplace health, safety, and justice by taking some cues from these folks. I have so much hope for the future of coffee because of them.
And after this year’s Brewers Cup season, it would be remiss of me not to mention Beth Beall and the way she supports and encourages others. She’s a role model to so many, supports her own team’s growth and professional development in a way that makes me aspire to be able to do the same one day. Most of all, she does it with wisdom, kindness, and grace. We love you, Beth! Thank you for everything you do for the greater coffee community.
If you could drink coffee with anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
My late grandmother Elsie Flora Spencer Sledzinski, but she would be drinking tea because she was British and that’s all I ever knew her to drink. She passed in 2009, but I’d like to talk to her openly as a grown adult woman and hear her take on the state of the world. I know she would be disgusted by Trump, and I’d love to bond with her over that.
If you didn’t work in coffee what do you think you’d be doing instead?
Anytime someone asks me this I say, “lavender farmer.” Doesn’t that sound like a nice way to live?
Do you have any coffee mentors?
I wish! I always wanted one, which is why I think I try to be a mentor I never had to others. But I still have so much to learn, and it’s never too late to have one if anyone is feeling generous!
What do you wish someone would’ve told you when you were first starting out in coffee?
To not take myself so seriously! I started having a lot more fun when I quit worrying about being perfect or being right. There is absolutely no one way to brew or enjoy coffee.
Name three coffee apparatuses you couldn’t do without.
I feel stumped, especially after spending more time with brewing vessels during quarantine. Going to have to go with a Baratza grinder, a glass V60, and one of my favorite mugs.
Best song to brew coffee to at the moment.
Tell me you don’t want to get back behind the bar and crush a rush when you hear “Space Jam” by the Quad City DJs?
Where do you see yourself in 2040?
Hopefully happy, healthy, and living extra well because I am finally living out my dream of residing in a beautiful place next to a body of water.
What’s your favorite coffee at the moment?
*sips* Jen Apodaca is slaying it with Mugshots by Mother Tongue! I love a coffee that is easy to brew and tastes sweet and balanced.
How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and professionally?
I am one of the thousands of coffee workers laid off from a job I loved. I miss it and many of my colleagues dearly. In the first few weeks, I felt minor relief. Sure, it was a full-time job just navigating the unemployment portal, but with rapidly evolving news made it hard to focus on much of anything but that. Now that more time has passed, it’s hard not to feel discouraged or disheartened. How can I be laid off? I’ve given 13 years of my life to coffee. Am I not good enough? Are my contributions and ideas not valuable? These are some thoughts that have entered my brain despite trying so hard not to. How can any of us in this position not have these thoughts? There’s no manual or reference for how to get through this and it looks different for everyone. We all have different needs. I’ve accepted that some days are just going to be harder than others and truly take it one day—sometimes one hour—at a time. Yet, there is an extraordinary amount of comfort in knowing I am not alone in navigating this. I cannot say I’d be managing it as well if I weren’t connected to so many coffee friends and peers at this time. The shared experience, the empathy; it’s refreshing and it makes me feel immense gratitude for the life choices I made that led me to this work and the coffee community.
I know that one day I will reflect upon this time of cooking projects, 24/7 athleisure, Zoom hangs, movie marathons, and learning the choreography to all my favorite ’90s music videos because I have the time. I know I will ultimately be thankful to have spent it safely in my home with my love and our house plants. Until then, what a way to get better at being patient.
Is there any donation fund or resource in your community we can share with our readers?
I’ve been co-hosting Coffee Break Northeast with the imitable Tommy Gallagher! It’s a way to connect with others in a time of social distancing and we support virtual tip jars, employee fundraisers and coffee businesses in our region daily at 1 pm. We have quite the crew of “regulars” and the camaraderie of Coffee Break has been instrumental in getting me through this time! coffeebreak.group is the website and we do ours at 1 pm eastern. All are welcome!

Learn the reality regarding diet supplements, fat loss, and also supplements for fat loss. It will spare you cash as well as assist you with safe fat burning Houston.
The shocking fact concerning the best supplements for weight loss is actually, "they do not definitely operate". I'm certainly not persuaded any sort of supplement rates weight loss or improvements your rate of metabolism, or typically magically causes more weight loss.
I have certainly not been impressed by supplement research or by talking with folks who have actually used supplements. Supplements are actually usually useless for getting muscle mass and also shedding physical body fat United Kingdom.
I highly believe all fat loss tablets are actually useless, unless you require some coffee to keep awake. Why is it that I've never ever complied with a person who possesses had results along with a weight loss supplement? Everyone I've ever before spoken to has however to observe arise from these alleged "fat deposits heaters".
It doesn't matter if it consists of Green Tea (lately presented to be ineffective for fat burning), CLA (loaded with opposing study about its performance), or some other pietistic caffeine pill, your diet pill is actually perhaps certainly not assisting you along with weight loss.
What regarding detoxing supplements?
Certainly not going to result in lengthy term weight reduction. You require a basic 5-step nutrition plan, like my 5 easy policies for weight loss, as well as a swift fat burning exercise plan you may do in the convenience of your very own house United Kingdom.
What concerning the usually suggested supplements, like healthy protein, creatine, as well as post-workout trembles?
They aren't all they are actually stated to become either ...
Personally, I do not count on to possess an additional protein cocktail or healthy protein club ever before again. Like lots of people, I may conveniently eat all the protein I need from entire, health foods.
If you discover it inconceivable to acquire all your everyday protein intake coming from meat, beans, and also almonds, you might profit from a protein shake when trying to drop body weight as well as burn body fat. A protein grain is an optionally available supplement USA.
Alternatively, I discover post-workout beverages coming from supplement retail stores to be a misuse of cash. It goes without saying, these beverages are actually simply healthy protein as well as carbohydrate, which you can easily obtain from genuine food items Houston.
Creatine can easily help a muscle-gaining exercise strategy. But you simply require the simple creatine grain - none of these new elaborate creatines (that are unproven!).
While I'm versus supplements for fat loss, supplements can be of real value for wellness functions.
I use a fish oil supplement, a Greens Plus product, and also a multi-.
vitamin/mineral. And also the final two are actually possibly unnecessary offered my diet, due to the fact that I might make a strong insurance claim for "most broccoli eaten through a human getting on an everyday manner".
All-time low series: Most bodybuilding, detoxification supplements, diet plan pills, and fat burning supplements are unworthy the cash. Real meals is the vital to acquiring the physical body, and also wellness, you intend. If you have a difficult time eating a selection of fish or obtaining all your vegetables as well as rewards, you might benefit coming from wellness supplements USA.
Instead, conserve your money and know exactly how to consume for fat loss using entire natural foods, combined with a fast, residence physical fitness exercises for weight loss.

14 WAYS TO ACTUALLY MAKE MONEY FROM A WEBSITE!
When it comes to finding ways to monetize your website and making money online, the best thing I have found, is to use a variety of different techniques and to always be testing.
This blog makes money by selling our own online courses, software and other peoples products as an affiliate.
However, there are a lot more than two ways to make money online.
Every site needs to be treated differently.
It can take a while to work out how to best make money from a website. If something doesn’t work, try something else. Don’t just give up. The main reason people fail with blogging, isn’t because their idea or website is bad but because they give up too soon.
Here are the 14 ways you can monetize your website:
Best Ways To Make Money Online
1. Email Marketing
This is one of my favorite things to talk about because it’s just so powerful.
Building an email list can make you a lot of money, help you build a solid brand and of course help readers come back to your site, time after time.
Email marketing can be seen to make you money in a few different ways, such as direct email promotions, to deliver free reports that are monetized and my favorite, to drive traffic back to your site where you make money from other methods.
Gone are the days of finding it hard to get people to subscribe to your website.
A few years ago, we added a lightbox popup to IncomeDiary. Over night, we went from getting 20+ subscribers a day to well over 100.
At the time, most websites hated the idea of using popups because of the negative association people have with them. But these popups are different. Instead of popping up in another browser window, they popup as part of the page you are on.
It was a lot less intrusive. Even better, it wasn’t to promote something spammy, but rather something of value to the reader.
After seeing the massive results, we decided to create our own software, so that other website owners can experience the same huge gains we have.
At the start, some big names in the industry spoke out, saying they didn’t like them and wouldn’t use them. That didn’t last long, once they saw how well they worked. Now it seems like every site uses popups and despite that fact, they still perform so well!
Love it or hate it but a big reason for the success of popup opt-ins is down to this site you are on right now.
Another list building technique you should be trying, is a squeeze page. A squeeze page is a dedicated page on your site to getting a visitor to sign up for your mailing list. You can see an example of a page like this by checking out our squeeze page for our Traffic Domination report! If you want to create amazing high converting squeeze pages (+ a lot more), check out Optimizepress.
Here is an example of a squeeze page we created with Optimizepress for our photography blog:
In order to start collecting emails, you need to sign up for Aweber, which hosts your emails, which you use to send messages, create follow up campaigns, split test etc.
Personally I would defintely recommend getting some popup software. We currently use OptiMonk which looks like the best option on the market. You could also use PopUp Domination, which is a lower price option.
Remember: 63.9% of our email subscribers come from our popup.
Benefits:
• Very direct way to market.
• One email can make you thousands.
• Anyone can do it.
• Considered by most to be the no1 way to make money online consistently.
• Can work on autopilot, if you setup a autoresponder series.
Drawbacks:
• If subscribers don’t like your emails, they will unsubscribe.
2. Promote Products as an Affiliate
Another hot topic here on IncomeDiary.
We earn around 30% of our income from promoting products as an affiliate. What this means is we receive a commission when you buy something.
Don’t be alarmed, we promote what works for us, not because we will earn a commission. Fortunately nearly all products that exist, have an affiliate program. If you can’t find an affiliate program for a particular product, type product name + affiliate into Google. For example: PopUp Domination Affiliate. This should bring up their affiliate page, if they have an affiliate program.
In my experience, affiliate marketing works best when paired up with email marketing. Top marketers consistently agree, year after year, that email marketing is their most important income source. Combine that with affiliate marketing and you have a winner.
There are so many ways to go about finding a product to promote, it often depends on your industry. For a fitness blog, you could go to Clickbank, find a product about six pack abs and grab an advertising banner from their resources area and put it up on my website.
You could also do a blog post such as, 7 Best Exercises To Get Six Pack Abs, then at the end, promote the product.
We have a photography blog. One of the ways we use affiliate marketing is to promote the cameras and accessories that we use. All of these are available on Amazon. So we signed up for Amazons Associate program and receive a commission every time a customer buys something through our link. We also get a commission on anything else in their shoppingcart which is kind of them.
One of the best tips I can give you for maximizing affiliate sales, is to make sure that the products you are promoting, are as targeted as possible to your content. Most websites have advertising space, it could be on the sidebar, above or below blog posts. The mistake most website owners make is, always showing the same advert, on all pages.
Using condition marketing, we display different adverts depending on the topic of the page. This is done by creating conditions for different tags, categories and authors. For example, any blog post with the tag make money online, will show an advert about making money online and any post with the tag drive traffic, will show an advert about the best ways to drive traffic to your site. This kind of targeting will significantly boost your conversions.
Benefits:
• Can earn you big bucks!
• Easy to setup and doesn’t require much support.
• Passive income.
Drawbacks:
• Earnings are not guaranteed, can earn $100 one month, $1000 the next.
• Great products can have low converting sales pages.
• High converting sales pages can have rubbish products.
3. Create & Sell Your Own Digital Product
Something I’m experimenting more and more with and I’m not sure if it’s just me.. but it seems like the world has gone crazy about making products, they are everywhere which has educated the market so they know they have to purchase content now. The simple version of creating a product is as followed, create a 30+ page word document about something, turn it into a PDF and sell it.
You can find out more about creating a product and selling it online by reading these posts.
Personally I think your first steps would be to ask your audience what they want to know more about, create a product around that and sell it!
When it comes to selling any product of your own, I recommend using SamCart for your checkout page, upsells and affiliate program. They have a free trial, so make sure to try it out.
Benefits:
• Affiliates send you traffic, build your business.
• Passive income because of affiliates promoting it.
• Great for building your brand and authority.
• Big Money Earner.
Drawbacks:
• Time consuming to setup.
4. Sell Advertising Space
The most popular way to make money from a website is by placing ads on it. We all know what ads look like, but did you know that they function in many different ways such as Pay Per Click, Pay Per 1000 Views or Pay Per Time Frame.
The biggest downside of website adverting, is that most people know what they look like and avoid clicking them.
When selling advertising, you typically have two choices:
1. Find and work with advertisers yourself.
or
2. Work with a middle man who takes a cut for bringing you advertisers.
It all depends on you. Is this a business for you or is this just an opportunity to make a bit more money?
I always lean towards finding advertisers myself. In my experience you get paid more, build better partnerships and can do a better job for them.
Advertising sales makes up only a small portion of my earnings but it’s nice to know that money is almost guaranteed to come in every month.
Be warned, Google does not like the practice of buying and selling text links. People buy text links because Google rank sites better based on quantity and quality of links. When you link to someone, you are telling search engines that you trust this site and you are giving them some of your authority. Google likes this to happen organically. So when you buy/sell links and get caught, Google will punish you by slapping your site down in the rankings.
Benefits:
• Often guaranteed income.
• Little effort to monetize.
• Saves you a lot of time.
• Great way to connect with others in your industry.
Drawbacks:
• Takes away from user experience.
• If you set a set price per month, you can’t make any more even if you double your traffic.
• Advertisers come and go, you have to spend time editing, adding, deleting and finding more advertisers.
5. Create a Job Board
This works like so:
People looking to hire someone will post a job on your board and readers will apply for the job. This is a great method of monetizing a website which I have seen done by a lot of authority websites.
On the other hand, I have seen smaller blogs try to do this and completely fail because it’s competitive and if you can’t send them anyone to apply, it’s pointless for them to post a job. Jobs can be anything from, writers to trainers.
As for what software to use, I recommend you check out Fiverr. They have a selection of freelancers who specialise in creating job board websites.
When it comes to marketing your job board, you will want to use some of your advertising space to promote the job board so that readers will see it and apply for jobs.
Charge a low price at the beginning so that you can attract a lot of customers and if they get applications they will be happy to return.
Benefits:
• Completely hands of, you don’t have to do anything.
• Adds to credibility
Drawbacks:
• Doesn’t work for small blogs
• Very competitive at times.

4 ways your inbound marketing strategy can make (or break) your business
They say the idea of marketing is to make selling unnecessary. Your sales team might take issue with that but they would certainly agree that marketing can make their jobs easier and more fruitful. A successful inbound marketing strategy will feed your sales team with warm, qualified leads, helping them hone in on demand and spend less time chasing lost causes.
As well as making sales more efficient, inbound marketing is also accountable. Properly-run inbound campaigns are transparent, measurable and easy to connect to a solid return on investment. When it’s done really well, inbound marketing can help you build a more creative and digitally-engaged business. It can have a positive impact not just on your sales, but also about how your people, your customers and your other stakeholders feel about your brand.
In this post we’re going to look at four examples. The first two examples show us how inbound marketing can make your business. These are the success stories that we all want to emulate. The second two examples didn’t go so well, but sometimes you can learn more from failure, even if it’s someone else’s.
2 ways to make it
“The most effective way to do it, is to do it.” Amelia Earhart.
So, let’s start with the success stores. We’ve picked two examples of brands that have leveraged content marketing, social media and brand building tactics to drive success in their respective businesses. While the brands involved likely have bigger budgets than you, regular marketers can still learn useful lessons from them. We’ve added our takeaways below each example.
1. HubSpot and the pillar and cluster blogging reboot
HubSpot is the biggest provider of marketing automation software by market share and really owns the inbound marketing space. It runs a leading inbound marketing event, which 24,000 people attended this year. The HubSpot Blog has 42,000 subscribers and features more than 22,000 posts. Google something related to inbound marketing and chances are at least one of those blogs will be on the first page.
But even with the power of a world class content marketing operation behind it, HubSpot has not had it all its own way. Last year, the company saw its blog traffic start to plateau. Competition and changes to the way Google and leading social media sites rank content meant that the steady growth HubSpot’s blog had experienced for years appeared to have come to an end.
The company’s pillar and cluster strategy was not the only thing it did to get its traffic graphs pointing back in the right direction. But it’s what we want to focus on because it’s an excellent model for anyone running a serious company blog.
Pillar and cluster is like hub and spoke. The idea is to organise blog content around particular topics. For each topic there is a single piece of “pillar” content that provides an overview. That then links to a whole series of posts targeting related long-tail keywords. These posts are the “cluster” content. Probably easier just to watch the video:
youtube
Pillar and cluster was intended to work better for two audiences: Google and HubSpot’s human readers.
Google’s algorithm isn’t as smart as the Silicon Valley super-bros would have you believe. But it has got a lot better at interrogating the meaning behind search queries and serving up content that matches those queries more closely.
What that means in English is that a blog post that used to rank for multiple long-tail keywords now ranks for far fewer. On some of those keywords it now gets out-ranked by a bunch of different posts that provide better matches.
Pillar and cluster makes HubSpot’s posts that provide those better matches easy for Google to find and index. Combine that with the resources to create specific posts for however many long-tail variations you want and you’re back to dominating search results and driving more traffic to your site.
For human beings it makes it easy to explore a topic in more depth. You get hooked in after Googling a question or looking for help with something inbound-marketing-related. Reading that post, you follow a link to another post digging deeper into a particular aspect of your original query. Before you know it, you’ve subscribed to HubSpot’s newsletter or you’ve downloaded one of its research papers.
Takeaways
Blogging is competitive. Social media sites favour native content over your link shares. Google is serving up closer matches to queries, which means your content won’t rank for as many long-tail keywords as before;
HubSpot’s solution is pillar and cluster, which means building big overview pages on key topics (pillar content) and linking out to more specific posts targeting different long-tail keywords (cluster content);
The result has been a return to steady month-on-month growth both in organic traffic and the number of keywords HubSpot’s blog ranks for
2. Nike and the $6 billion Colin Kaepernick gamble
Earlier this year we wrote about Nike’s Colin Kaepernick-fronted marketing campaign. Marking the 30th anniversary of the very first “Just Do It” ad, “Dream Crazy” was one of the biggest marketing stories of 2018.
Kaepernick is a controversial and somewhat divisive figure. For his critics, he is a pampered, overrated troublemaker who has disrespected the American flag and the US military. For his supporters, he is an icon, who has given up the trappings of a successful NFL career to take a stand (or a knee) for something he believes in.
Nike’s decision to align itself with Kaepernick’s progressive politics was a measured risk. The young people it wants wearing its trainers and connecting with its brand values are much more likely to approve of or at least not be offended by Kaepernick’s activism. But there was a real chance that the Kaepernick die-hards would resent a multi-billion-dollar apparel brand latching itself on to one of their heroes. As we’ll see in the next section not all attempts to ride on the coat-tails of pop culture trends pay off.
In Nike’s case it did. As this lovely chart from CBS News shows, Nike’s share price hit a record high in the post-Kaepernick period. Now, share price is not the only way to measure a company’s success. And there are more variables than just the latest marketing campaign that influence share price. But, it’s a fact that Nike’s market capitalisation increased by USD $6 billion in the three weeks after the campaign was launched.
Nike had reportedly considered dropping Kaepernick altogether in 2017. But the decision to not only retain him but have him front “Dream Crazy” now looks like one of the best marketing calls of the year. It’s worth noting here that the record high of USD $85.55 per share on September 21st hasn’t been sustained since. Nike shares closed out November at USD 75.12. That’s still 25 per cent up on a year ago.
Takeaways
Marketing campaigns built around controversial figures and political causes carry a lot of risk for brands, but also big potential pay-offs
You can use inbound marketing, content creation and social media to associate your brand with the values of your target audience, but you need to be consistent, authentic and sensitive
2 ways to break it
“Failure is unimportant. It takes courage to make a fool of yourself”. Charlie Chaplin.
We’ll say this section is about the valuable lessons we can all take from marketing campaigns gone wrong. But let’s be honest, schadenfreude is just human nature. Don’t fight it.
1. Burger King and the World Cup baby boom
Even if you actively tried to avoid it, you will have noticed that 2018 was a World Cup year. And when it comes to marketing opportunities in sport it doesn’t get any bigger than the football World Cup.
In 2014, the World Cup final attracted a television audience 20 times bigger than the Superbowl. The four-year cycle that culminated with that tournament brought in USD 1.63 billion in sponsorship revenue for Fifa, the much-maligned organising body. That was more than three times the revenue for the 2003-2006 period, according to the Nielsen World Football Report.
Sponsorship revenue dipped for the first time in the 2015-2018 cycle, which included this summer’s tournament in Russia. But when you consider that Fifa had been doing its very best to alienate sponsors during that period, USD 1.45 billion isn’t at all bad.
Fifa had 16 official partners this summer. Its list of benefactors included representatives from a range of industries including automotive, dairy produce, white goods, financial services, soft drinks and, of course, burgers.
But not Burger King.
McDonald’s has been a Fifa sponsor since the 1994 World Cup. And despite rumours ahead of this year’s tournament that Fifa’s ethical transgressions had put that long-standing relationship at risk, McDonald’s remains a top tier sponsor.
youtube
Being a Fifa sponsor isn’t cheap and part of what you get for your money is a guarantee that you won’t be sharing any World Cup infographics with your competitors. In fact, Fifa takes a tough line with brands that try to piggyback on its showpiece event by creating football-themed content for their summer marketing campaigns when they’re not an official sponsor. Here’s 32 pages of brand protection guidelines to prove it.
For the 2018 tournament Burger King was one of the many non-sponsor brands looking for a way to get in on the action without falling foul of Fifa’s rules. What it came up with in Russia backfired spectacularly.
The company took to VK, Russia’s leading social media site to offer women a cash prize and free whoppers for life if they got pregnant by a World Cup player. There was something in there about wanting strong football genes to ensure Russia’s success in future tournaments but Burger King’s Russian arm was quickly deleting its posts and apologising.
The negative reaction in Russia was amplified to the rest of the world, with newspapers in the west digging up previous marketing blunders from other parts of Burger King’s global franchise network. The fact that Burger King wasn’t an official sponsor made the whole thing look especially clumsy and desperate.
Takeaways
Guerilla marketing around big sporting events carries two big risks. Firstly that the organising body will sue you. Secondly that your attempts to be cheeky and controversial will backfire
An event like the World Cup amplifies the potential reach of related marketing campaigns, but that works for fails as well as wins
2. Adidas and the Boston Marathon email fail
At this year’s Boston Marathon Adidas won plaudits for its creative use of user-generated content. Its “Here to Create Legend” campaign provided 30,000 participants in one of the world’s biggest road races with personalised videos. These videos combined footage from cameras along the course with data from RFID chips and were available to runners within minutes of them crossing the finishing line.
youtube
Adidas has sponsored the Boston Marathon for 30 years but not every one of its marketing campaigns inspired by the event has been so well received. In 2017, Adidas sent out a marketing email after the race congratulating participants for “surviving”. Now, with any other marathon that might seem like a perfectly normal thing to say. It’s a gruelling event that takes months of preparation and a huge physical toll even on accomplished runners.
But the Boston Marathon is very different. In 2013, three people were killed and 264 were injured when two bombs exploded at the finish line. To Bostonians, “surviving” means something very different to finishing a race.
Adidas apologised.
pic.twitter.com/cdBKixwSqT
— adidas (@adidasUS) April 18, 2017
It could have been worse for Adidas. Marketing fails really hurt brands when they gatecrash a trending story or big social issue they don’t understand or have any real connection with. Tone deaf attempts to be funny or controversial for the first time have real consequences.
For Adidas, it had three decades of supporting the Boston Marathon behind it. Receiving a marketing email from the official sponsor of the event won’t have offended anyone who took part, even if the choice of words in the subject line did.
That said, if you Google “Adidas Boston Marathon” you’ll see the story about last year’s email error outranking the official Adidas Boston Marathon apparel range and the 2018 “Here to Create Legend” campaign.
Takeaways
Email is an essential tool for inbound marketing but mistakes can have big consequences. You can’t unsend an email and stories about failures tend to remain in the public consciousness (and Google’s search results)
Even when you’re the official sponsor, poorly-worded marketing can lead to a backlash on social media. It’s much worse if your brand has no connection with the event or story in question

5 Lessons for Becoming Wealthy and Successful as an Outsider
You don’t need to be born into money to succeed as an entrepreneur.
You don’t need a four-year degree or a laundry list of qualifications, either. You can even be a broke foreigner who didn’t grow up speaking English.
That was me—the broke foreigner who had all the odds against him. But I pushed through. I learned, I grew, and eventually I built an 8-figure empire stretching across multiple industries.
This is how I made that success possible…
Turn your weakness into strength
When I was only six years old, my family arrived in America after spending every last penny we had to escape Soviet Communism. I didn’t speak any English, and we were so poor that we had to spend the first few years fishing food out of dumpsters.
To add to our struggles, I didn’t really mesh well with the kids at school. I was the fat kid because I had a steady diet of government cheese and white bread. For a few years, the best shirt I had was an old t-shirt with Herman Munster on the front. Whenever I wore that shirt (which was a lot), other kids would point to me and say “Herman” so I just started answering to “Herman” like it was my name.
That’s how much of an outsider I was.
Fortunately, though, high school gave me my first major breakthrough in life. I was so tired of being invisible to girls that I asked my friend on the football team to train me in the gym. I ended up losing a ton of weight and gaining a whole new level of confidence. I knew from that point on I wanted to spread the gift of health and fitness—and confidence—to others.
That’s my first lesson to any outsider: You can turn your weaknesses into incredible strengths. You just have to a reason to fight for it.
Fight harder than the insiders
Despite my success at the gym, I was NOT “naturally athletic.” I was, as I mentioned before, naturally fat and awkward. But I had motivation to get in shape, so I obsessively hit the gym (and still do) to force my body to get fit and strong. Eventually, I would learn to apply this same idea to my finances. Because I didn’t have money, I fought like hell to make money and became obsessed with keeping my money and growing it.
Bedros Keuilian and his family
Here’s the dirty little secret of most “insiders”: They don’t value what they have because they didn’t have to fight for it. Most of them eventually get lazy or entitled, and when they do, you can soar ahead because of your superior focus and work ethic.
Lesson #2: “I don’t have the money” can either be an excuse that holds you back, or it can be the fuel that makes you become more resourceful and fight for what you deserve. It all comes down to how you frame your situation.
But as you head down the path of wealth-building, be warned: Not all advice is created equal.
Don’t listen to the experts; listen to the market
Fast-forward from high school to when I decided to start my fitness boot camp franchise, Fit Body Boot Camp. In preparation for launch, I met with franchising “experts” to ask for advice on my business model. I told them I wanted to charge a fair, flat royalty fee for my franchisees instead of scaling their royalties to match their revenues. I figured this way, my franchisees could actually reap the rewards for doing better work, which would make the franchise as a whole grow faster and deliver faster results to clients.
At that point, these “experts” would literally scream at me, telling me I was an idiot and that my idea would never work. Ouch.
But instead of caving to their “conventional wisdom,” I implemented my idea. Today, Fit Body Boot Camp has over 600 locations worldwide and has placed twice on the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest growing companies in the U.S. We’ve gained a reputation as the “Anti-Franchise Franchise” because we give our franchisees’ fanatical support and coaching. For that reason, we’ve convinced many of the best and brightest in the fitness industry to come and open multi-location empires with us.
Big lesson #3: Listen to the market instead of listening to experts. At the end of the day, experts can only teach you what worked for them in the past. If that’s the only perspective you listen to, it’s going to stifle innovation. Instead, listen to the market and meet the needs that are out there. These new customers and clients will give you the money you need to build your empire.
This also applies to choosing the right customer demographic. For Fit Body Boot Camp, I deliberately chose to target stay-at-home moms, knowing that nobody else was delivering the real weight-loss results they needed.
Even worse, nobody knew how to market to them. Gyms were trying to market to stay-at-home moms the same way they would market to men—with a lot of macho, competition-focused messaging. But these women often find the traditional gym environment intimidating. They’re more motivated by collaboration than competition.
Keeping all of this in mind, I designed everything in Fit Body Boot Camp to focus on positive community and personal motivation. This includes our wide-open floor design, warm colors, and a clear message of “family welcome” among clients and owners alike.
Bedros speaking at the 2018 Fitness Business Summit
If someone closes a door, build your own
Before I even founded Fit Body Boot Camp, I had a chain of five successful personal training studios. Part of the key to my success was that I had a marketing system that allowed me to completely dominate the San Diego area. Because I love the fitness industry and wanted to help my fellow fitness entrepreneurs, I started teaching my fitness marketing techniques to anyone who wasn’t a direct competitor.
I got so deep into fitness business coaching, in fact, that I approached all of the big fitness industry educators like IDEA and NASM and asked if I could speak on their stages and teach my marketing systems. They all said no.
At that point, I got frustrated. I knew from personal experience that a lot of personal trainers were going to struggle and fail if they didn’t learn how to run a business—on top of learning the right workouts and diet regimens.
So, I started my own event, Fitness Business Summit. The first event some 10 years ago was only about 100 people crammed into a tiny hotel, but a decade later, in 2018, we had just over 1,000 people attend.
Lesson #4: You need to be the one who builds your own door, just like I did. It’s not your fault that the experts are closed-minded and stuck in the past. In fact, it’s your opportunity to fill a vacuum in the market. Oftentimes, the fastest growing and most innovative businesses begin with someone trying to innovate after everyone else tells them “no.”
Get started now
Lesson #5: Now is the absolute best time for any outsider entrepreneur to build a business and get started.
The barrier to entry is lower than ever before; all you need is an Internet connection. You can use YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and WordPress—all for free—to put out how-to content to build authority in your market. Then, you can put together an e-book or other info product using free office software, save it as a .PDF, and sell it online via services like Amazon Kindle. You can even collect payments online using a free PayPal account.
Fair warning, though: This may not last forever. As major companies like Facebook, Google, and Amazon make their services more restrictive for business owners, the barrier to entry could very well creep back up over the next few years.
That’s why my advice is to get started now. Create your business and take control of your destiny now before the window closes. Remember: You don’t need to have advantages; you don’t need to be an insider; you don’t need to have piles of cash. You just need to see your adversities as opportunities to grow and become stronger—then stop at nothing to achieve your biggest goals.
The path to success—as an insider or outsider—demands the structure of a daily routine. Start with a fine-tuned morning…

Fitness Logo Design: How To Create A Great One
Have you tried designing a fitness logo lately? In this article, you’ll find some tips on how to design fitness logos well.
Both professional players and their passionate supporters rely on sports logos to be recognized.
Gyms are no exception to this rule, with numerous coaches and trainees looking to create the best gym logos and stand out of the crowd.
To help them out, we collected a list of useful tips and fitness logo ideas that will certainly keep their teams on the map.
Fitness logo design tips
Less is more
A gym logo should be simple and unobtrusive, and yet convey all important information. To create the perfect piece, you have to think of where that logo is going to appear, including gear, memorabilia, and the compulsory jerseys and uniforms. To ensure the best continuity across all promotional materials, avoid overly detailed sketches.
Make it unique
How do great sports and fitness logos look like? To attract attention, you should first identify the main goals of your marketing strategy, and think of designs your audience would be impressed by. Bold colours, striking contrasts, and strong fonts will help you make this happen.
Make the sport recognizable at first sight
The icon on your logo has one and only purpose – to show people which your sport is. Be it that you’re creating a football logo, basketball logo, golf logo, or a fitness logo, you need to create a piece that will represent your tram and your activities, instead of making viewers wonder who you are.
Choose the appropriate colours
Choosing a colour for your sports logo will be easy, as all popular disciplines are commonly connected to a particular hue. Swimmers’ logos, for instance, often feature a blue theme.
When creating a gym logo, however, you need to consider several important factors. In such cases, branding is not explicitly related to a colour, and you need to research the market to come up with the ideal branding strategy. Keep in mind that this logo will be the official face of your brand, and help prospective customers identify with your ideas and values.
Familiarize with your target audience
Before you start sketching your fitness logo, identify your prospective visitors and think of ways to attract them to your venue. In order to succeed, a logo has to be directed towards the target audience, which means you should make it specific and memorable. Be it that you’re targeting professional body builders or women aged between 20 and 30, make that visible on your logo.
Convey the right message
Your logo will be the icon of your brand that showcases the values of your business, and shares your message without further explanations.
This is why sports logos are simple and make use of limited visual elements instead of textual explanations. Nike is a great example – they have one of the simplest logos used so far, but yet encourage and inspire users to challenge themselves and to succeed.
Bring inspiration along the way
While designing a logo, choose inspirational emoticons that will enable viewers to identify with your brand.
The questions you should ask yourself are: How is your target audience supposed to feel about coming to your gym? How will you create that feeling? Most of the time, people expect a gym logo to inspire them to start exercising.
Different logo colours inspire different emotions. In the fitness logo case, the best way to go is to pick hues that motivate your trainees, and create a sense of belonging to your community.
Keep an eye on your competitors
In order to get the full picture of how your brand will fit on the market, do some research on competitors. This will help you craft a better brand positioning strategy in the competitive fitness industry, as you will communicate clearly what makes you different than other gyms and fitness clubs. A good idea is to use text slogans with distinctive fonts and colours that may motivate people to choose you over other providers.
Make the fitness logo simple, but don’t exclude essential elements
Think of all the iconic logos you know – the thing they all have in common is simplicity, and the fact people recognize them within seconds. In the fitness industry, however, logos should not be deprived of leading indicators that communicate your offer. For instance, these elements help users understand whether you’re dealing with weightlifting or cross-fit, and build up their exact expectations.
Create a result-oriented gym logo
Why do people go to the gym? For most of them, this is a way to make an important change in their lives, be that enhanced appearance, improved health and fitness, or a response to a dangerous disease like diabetes and obesity.
Despite of the multiple benefits, jumping on the gym bandwagon is a difficult experience for most beginners, and many of them quit before they’ve experienced actual results.
Exercising can be particularly daunting for people trying to lose weight, and they are usually the ones that have the most trouble getting used to the gym.
This is why training and fitness logos need to be just as motivational as appealing, and make people believe that they will genuinely experience the change they’re after.
If possible, make a logo that promotes and advertises what customers are looking for, ideally the results they wish to achieve.
It could be a thinner body layout in an energetic colour, or even a silhouette drawn inside a larger body. On the safe side, you can always get an image of a barbell-lifting client or high-fiving to the trainer to invoke a sense of community.
Use welcoming colours on a fitness logo
Most of the newcomers you’re targeting have little to no fitness expertise, and will feel intimidated or even embarrassed upon their first encounter with a personal trainer.
As strange as it sounds, this is the main reason why gyms struggle to attract their first clients.
This is why we’re repeatedly advising designers on creating a motivational logo, in particular one whose colours invoke a pleasant, non-judgemental vibe. We recommend pinks, greens, blues, oranges, and other energetic and festive tones.
Do you research before designing
Personal trainers may all have the same tasks and goals, but that doesn’t mean that their modus operandi will be the same. Therefore, the distinct style of a trainer is another important element that should be reflected on the logo. When teaching bare fitness, for example, an image of kickboxing won’t make much sense.
Same applies to your individual methods of training – you can always go for a logo where you are cheering up a sweating client, or helping him hold a barbell, and count on the fact that future customers will be ready to rely on you.
What are the most common fonts used on gym logos?
Branding matters the world to a new fitness studio or even a simple, YouTube-featured training program, as it helps clients wrap up an opinion before they’ve even used your services.
Being completely frank, there won’t be anything more important than the logo to reaffirm the success of your brand.
This is why designers work side-by-side with fitness professionals to come up with the perfect image and name, but not that many of them give fonts the attention they deserve.
Truth is, typography is a critical element of branding, and you should be extremely careful when making your decision.
Here are the most commonly used fonts:
Modesto
Is your plan to capture the attention of clients even when they’re hundreds of feet away? Will your gym be advertised on signs and billboards? If so, you should look at 2000 Modesto to cater to your exact needs.
Modesto is large and imperative, but manages to attract attention without making viewers feel overwhelmed. It works perfectly with many different colours, and help convey a helpful and friendly message to clients with all types of fitness goals.
Helvetica
Helvetica is a classic font, and its use in fitness logos is self-explanatory. It will be ideal for gyms conveying a message of intensive strength training, including weightlifting and kick-boxing. The best way to use it is in black and white combinations.
Rockwell
For a gym logo that will remind of rugged Americana Olympic logos, Rockwell is the way to go. The bold font is easy to notice and even easier to read, and you can resize it for all types of marketing materials without affecting its impeccable appearance. It will look great with pops of intense red and blue.
Bobber
Bobber is just cut for creative and out-of-the-box gyms, and the preferred font of the ‘hipster’ clientele in large communities’ millennial markets. Online, you can find some perfect examples of it injecting a personal vibe on the logos of personalized cycling studios, dancing clubs, and similar venues.
Custom Typography
If you can afford to do so, the best option will always be to have a one-of-a-kind type crafted in the service of your brand.
This way, the logo will be unique and protected from plagiarism, and customers will know you’re ready to do whatever it takes to be there for them.
Having a font designed exclusively for your brand won’t be a cheap process, but the investment will certainly pay off once you create a product clients will remember. This matters in particular to gyms preparing for online campaigns, as they’re facing an even more competitive market.
Ending thoughts on fitness logo design
A good gym logo requires a good deal of work, and several hours spent on solid research. Before you hit off with the design proves, evaluate your audience and competitors, and think of combinations that convey your message in a welcoming way.
The fitness industry is a sea of unused opportunities, but still competitive enough to make customers’ emotions the only criteria for success. The secret, however, is simple – make a logo people will trust, and let them know they’re welcomed in your community.
