I think something that happens too often is that someone will end up being the aggressor/instigator in a situation because they believe they are defending themself. But what they are retaliating for is only a perceived attack that never actually happened.

And then what usually happens when you try to explain to them that they have misunderstood the situation and no, you didn’t actually mean to look at them funny or have a “weird tone” in your voice or whatever, is they just accuse you of gaslighting them.

It’s frustrating.
