I've been thinking lately about Resident Evil 6 a lot, and the relationship between Chris and Jake throughout the game, and the parallels with Chris and Albert from their past, and this morning it suddenly hit me.

I may be fuzzy on the recall but I'm pretty sure it's during the scene where Jake and Sherry crash the motorcycle and get surrounded by J'avo and the helicopter attacking them. After Chris and Piers help back them up, and the enemies are taken care of, Chris is standing on the scaffolding looking down at Jake. Jake, who is currently surrounded by fire staring up at Chris with this intense look. Jake asks Sherry in that moment if Chris knows Wesker was his father.

Which feels like the perfect timing for a nod back, considering this scene mirrors the one from Code Veronica where Chris is flying away with Claire, and Albert is standing below, surrounded by fire, looking up at Chris as he takes off.

(again, I might be a little hazy on the recall cause I woke up with this in my head)

In RE6, by this point, Chris still doesn't have his memories back yet and so he doesn't make the connection but clearly the look of Jake down below means something cause he's caught staring and can't take his eyes away. It seems to really bother him, like he can't put his finger on it. If it is Chris' brain trying to drag him back to the memory of Wesker from before.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share the idea with you. I love all your posts about the parallels between characters across the different RE media, and this thought made me want to share it with you to get your take and perspective on it.

Sorry for the late reply I had to go and look at the cutscene again x-x YOU'RE TOTALLY RIGHT......GOD............THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS, THIS IS A TOTALLY NEW PARALLEL FOR THEM.....*IS SHOOK* The familiarity (in Chris' POV) would have been felt, like deja vu (added RE5 because Chris is looking down on Wesker in the volcano, which is the last time he sees him) What gets me most is that although Chris knew there was something about Jake, even if a 'bad vibe' or having a negative feeling looking at Jake's face (which resembles Wesker's), he never showed any aggression, distrust, nervousness or hostility to Jake, despite how Piers was reacting to him. He was uncertain as if trying to remember but how he reacted/behaved towards Jake wasn't a negative one. When he did find out the truth, he wasn't angry or afraid or betrayed. If anything he felt more responsible for Jake than before. His apparent guilt/remorse for killing Wesker became known after he learned the truth and met Jake again, saying (to Jake) he has every right to shoot him and was prepared to die. He didn't even try to justify his actions, saying Wesker was a monster/needed to be stopped. He confessed and told Jake to shoot him as if he deserved it.

Steve bites back a sigh when he sees a hand waving just out of the corner of his eye, trying to grab his attention from where Steve's gazing pitifully at his drink. The club is loud, music blasting, and maybe it's a little pathetic for Steve to be at his place of work on his day off, but Robin's behind the bar and he gets free drinks. Unfortunately, the kind of guys who frequent his workplace are usually the opposite of Steve's type.

So, he's prepared, for when he looks up, to gently let down whatever club boy who's decided to shoot their shot with him tonight. They all start to look the same to him: bleached hair, glitter, crop tops and low riding pants. Men who are too much like Steve to be what Steve's looking for.

When he looks up, however, his eyes go a little wide and his lips part from around the straw against his tongue.

"Hi!" yells the guy, long hair, long legs, long fingers. He's wearing way too much leather and denim for this place, and he must be boiling under that jacket. "W-would you like to dance?"

Steve takes a longer moment to take him in: his shoulders hunched up around his ears, fingers twisting his hair nervously, eyes big and brown and beautiful.

Straightening from where he's been hiding against the wall, Steve steps up into the guy's space, watches his eyes go bigger and his face go pink. He's perfect.

"I'm Steve," he says, leaning in so he can be heard over the music. "And you don't look like the kind of guy who dances."

"Oh, I'm not," the guy says, eyes flicking around Steve's face, dropping to Steve's chest, to his thighs and back up again. "Um, sorry. I'm Eddie."

Steve grins. "Nice to meet you, Eddie."

Eddie's mouth quirks up, an giddy, boyish smile. "P-pleasure's mine," he says. "And I may be terrible at it, but I'd love to dance with you. If you'd like."

"I would like," Steve tells him. He holds out his hand, feels his heart flutter when Eddie takes it. "I'd like that very much."

I don’t like minimizing the importance and gravity of Laios and Toshiro’s fight into just being a childish squabble, even if to a degree it is framed that way, because to both of them it has a lot of personal significance and emotional weight and runs very deep to their characters… The fight isn’t nothing it’s a LOT, they made up but it’s not something easy to express and to get over for either of them which makes it all the more meaningful! I’m on both sides but there very much are sides, there’s no "they’re both having a ball, Toshiro and Laios hand in hand yay" side to the fight, that comes after

The fight with Toshiro WAS very scary to Laios, almost existentially so, but it’s moreso the "I thought I’d made a friend!!" bit and my god. My god actually

Like it’s not "just" about oh his friend liking him less than he thought, THAT IS SO MUCH. It’s a bond he thought he had being a lie it’s all the time and moments spent together either being a lie from his perspective or marred now looking back. It’s not only being upset at Toshiro for lying but upset at himself that he’s so easy to fool, it’s being upset that there’s something so wrong with you that you can’t even tell if your "close buddy" even actually likes you or not, it’s like. Holding my head. He can’t trust his own vision of events that happened do you see. There’s always this film of distrust that it could be a lie that should be there when he interacts with people there’s always this sense of cloak and dagger to expect backstabs out of nowhere because you CAN’T see it coming you CAN’T you CAN’T there’s something about you which makes it impossible so you CAN’T-

He’s so scared of not being able to read people. He knows it’s a weak spot he has, he’s always known. All of these bits are centered around social expectations and betrayals, the assumption that he doesn’t belong either in society or with other humans.

And Laios’ level of awareness is actually sort of complex to analyze, but it’s there, there’s how out of him and Falin he was the one sensitive to the ~aura of hatred~ he felt from the townspeople, there’s of course his nightmares whispering to him about the mocking looks, and how yeah actually he realizes that his gold stripper coworker was taking advantage of him. There’s of course the Winged Lion speech about his trauma and how he fundamentally mistrusts/dislikes humans to some deep seated degree, this distrust that he still keeps under control always. There’s how pre-canon he often wanted to suggest eating monsters but never worked up the courage to bring it up with the others. There’s how he gets across as stoic when he isn’t being enthusiastic…… We don’t know how aware and wary he is exactly in the moment but we do know he has some anxiety around social stuff, and looking back he does notice and aughh augh, the sense you have to hide yourself to not get hurt and be on your guard and shit and.

When you don’t know what to look out for and when to look out for it, the general ‘common sense’ of not always trusting people or noticing when someone’s messing with you becomes hypervigilance in social settings

"Man they really know what you hate huh." Being socially unaware literally plagues him, he knows, he knows it so well.

It’s so quick that it’s almost hard to digest how literal and blatant Laios summoning his monster to crush all the people who’ve hurt him is. His literal go-to coping mechanism for comfort in his literal monster-induced emotionally intense nightmares, saving him by taking away the upsetting element (the humans)

"Monsters are his coping fantasy, where they can whisk him away from humanity, all the hurt it’s caused him and its arbitrary rules" with the subtlety of a brick. Monsters are his comfort safe zone "because they kill humans" yes but no it’s because he pits them as the guardians against humans who to him are in the role of the agressors. To him they represent freedom from the shackles of what it means to be part of humanity, a fundamentally social species

The moment when only they exist and the rest of the world fades away because they are so lost in each other’s eyes. They are just so beautiful and so in love and season 3 graced us with so many gorgeous moments. This is one that is on top of that list for me
