kinda love how Nick and Taliesin are playing their characters and reminding us that Pelor is not just "Don't fucking look into the sun or you'll blind yourself" and droughts and stuff, he's also the thing that warms the earth and the thing that reminds people to keep going and daylight after a long moonless night

and Melora is not just the thing that saved Fjord and makes trees grow and is loving and kind, she's also the kind of ocean that breaks boats and she is quicksand and poison ivy and natural selection and she does not (usually) pick favorites because nature waits for no one

Rewatching some episodes of Avatar in my sick state...and man, that silent sequence with Zuko where he sneaks into the Northern Water tribe is still like, the coolest thing. I remember being so impressed with it as a kid because it really made you feel the struggle he was going through to not freeze to death and it was so rare for cartoons to have totally silent sequences like that (minus Zuko briefly yelling at animals) where you were just feeling nothing but the intensity of the life and death struggle. It also just gets across how relentless and tenacious he is, entirely visually.

There's kind of the anime influence there because kids cartoons at the time were all bangbang next piece of dialogue, whereas a Ghibli movie would trust itself to be engaging enough that you could just sit with what the animation was saying.

Plus it was just such a cool firebending effect with the breath of fire and his hands heating up and breaking through the ice...

It's such a small sequence, but it just kind of captures what made the show special, in a way, and I think that kind of sticks with me.

I think there’s not enough discussion abt how funny the song choices are in peaky blinders sometimes. tommy will say something like “im going to have to kill bobby shitman” and then some americana gothic band you’ve never heard of named chug fugmud and the lonely bugrugs comes in with a song miraculously not written for the show where the lyrics are “kiiiiiiillinnnnn bobby shitmaaaan gonna fuck your life uppp horse boyyy” as tommy shelby takes the biggest widest steps you’ve ever seen in your life in slow motion
