I’ve been seeing more Star Wars discourse again because it’s that time of year and while my general opinion is ‘don’t make me go there again’, I will very briefly go there again and say that whatever your personal opinion on any of the three sequel trilogy films, it remains absurd to me that people will seriously argue TLJ is the worst in terms of craft and craft alone, more than two bloody years after the thing came out. that thing that’s going around with the ‘good/bad as in well-constructed’ vs ‘good/bad as in I like/hate it’? genuinely an attitude fandom could use. and a part of me is all ‘why do you care’ and I don’t really, who cares about objective quality anyway, I know it’s my favourite Star Wars thing and I don’t actually want to be a ‘real’ Star Wars fan you gatekeeping fucks because it mostly seems to be a pretty miserable experience, but every few days on twitter I’ll see someone get mocked/piled-on en masse for saying TLJ is their favourite SW film (usually from far-right fandom menace types though occasionally you’ll get some tumblr-style antis joining in because why not), which should be a very middle-of-the-road attitude given that it is a perfectly solid piece of filmmaking - especially when compared to TROS, which regardless of your personal opinion has some... how do you say... minor problems
and life’s too short for star wars discourse but, well, it does annoy me that fandom has an incredibly capacity towards circlejerking its way to completely distorted views of the media it purports to be responding to and it just irritates me in this instance because I believe that I am right and anyone who disagrees is wrong, but also I don’t care if anyone disagrees with me as long as they don’t show up at my (or other pro-tlj fans) doorstep to do so in a very shouty manner (TWO YEARS ON). and sadly fans’ reaction to tlj probably did matter, if certain decisions by tros are anything to go by, which makes it even more irritating (though to be clear, even if tlj had been literally the worst film ever made it still wouldn’t have excused the backlash, especially towards kmt, and shouldn’t have been responded to the way it was by lucasfilm, especially in sidelining rose. that still remains inexcusable). and while I have some incredibly uncharitable opinions about how fandom reacts to corporate media in general, I’m not going to get into them here, I’m not in fandom to bitch around mostly... but
but. it’s that time of year again so this is my one star wars opinion of the year: If you think TLJ is a terrible film, you are wrong.
Check in next year for another Star Wars opinion!
#do not talk to me about the star war#txt#see i want to tag this in a way that allows people who don't want to see this shit avoid it but like... oh man#star wars discourse#also if we're going there - I saw someone today call reylos 'delusional' and... I'm sorry but they kissed on screen#this was a dumb argument in the first place because it misunderstands how ~shipping~ works but also it's over now#of course I ship stoki because I know that chris evans is gonna show up in the loki tv show and passionately make out with loki#*presents thirty page dossier*#but occasionally I have been known to ship things that are less than canonical#which doesn't include the ship where the two parts of it did a smooch; they smashed faces#their lips met each other in what one might consider an amorous moment#we cannot quite be sure as to the extent to which tongues were involved but it is a distinct possibility#bitchy dove: do not eat#this one's a banger

(aaron taylor johnson, he/him, spirit warrior) to BISHOP PENDRAGON, the whole world looks like an open page. with a leap of faith, their ability of SOUL MANIPULATION grows a little stronger. they’re pledged to the HOUSE OF BELTRAN to defend the enchanted lands of cagliostro with their SOUL-BOUND BRASS KNUCKLES / GAUNTLETS. for THIRTY-FIVE years, they have survived a world of magic with both their PERCEPTIVENESS and EGOCENTRICITY. they work as a OWNER OF SOULFUL BOO-TIQUE, but if they could change their fate, they’d want to REPENT LIKE THE IDIOT HE IS BECAUSE HIS STUPID RUSE GOT-GOT.
DOSSIER .
Born into the well renown Pendragon family, it was expected of Bishop to follow his ancestor’s footsteps throughout life. Yet with the presentation of magic outside of the Fraser vein instilled slight unease among the community. To have sway over the very core of the living wasn’t exactly natural. But he proved to be rather proficient with his skills, and was nothing but devoted to strengthen his powers for the good and righteous. Thus many were keen to overlook the descent into expanding — so long as no harm would come to the denizens.
And perhaps things would’ve stayed that way if the chance of fate hadn’t twisted decades later.
The birth of Rook was nothing but a joyous occasion. He, for two ( grandma Pendragon was and will forever be the first ), adored his little brother to the end of earth and back. Any of the faults he blundered through was passed along as tokens of wisdom. Any shadowy nightmares feared was pummeled right through ( as was the start to understanding how soul-bound weapons worked ).
All in all, he was there for his brother come hell or high water.
Even when he was to be married to his arranged betrothed and moved away. Even when he found an impossible quest that would surely secure his intended position as head of Beltran and trained day in, day out. Even when whispers of how scarce survival is for anyone that dared to undertake such a feat spread across the lands like wildfire.
Even then, he promised to come to Rook’s aid when needed.
Except what came back wasn’t exactly him.
See, Bishop knew that his chances of survival was slim to none. All of the spectral participants were masters of the event. He, on the other hand, only had his set skills and wits. So in order to help even out the field, he did the unthinkable. Something that would’ve perhaps made their parents proud. A deal with the dimension witch was struck. Double the extent of his powers and get him the right connection to enter the hunt for a sliver of his very own soul; a part of him that would never be returned.
Damning as it was... it worked.
Where Bishop had failed prior, he managed to summon the right spirit to communicate with. Said spirit happened to be none other than a barghest that had been born into the grand hunt. They struck up a deal that very night. The barghest would let him participate in the upcoming hunt as a test, but he would have to be the victim. Being hunted throughout the night felt like an eternity, but he managed to stay alive until the brink of dawn. True to his word, Bishop was able to participate in the future hunts. Yet the rest of the hunters still wanted to test his capability.
When the next hunt rolled around, Bishop helped the hunters and hounds on their quest to to kill the unfortunate victim. This time the hunt ended in bloodshed, but it was a celebratory cause for them. One of the riders came forth and offered him a leg of the slain human. Unbeknownst to most, said leg is always cursed. Fortunately, he had been wiser than most, and tricked the rider by asking for salt. Unable to give such a thing along with the leg, the rider was forced to keep the prize. Thus, saving him from being slain in turn.
With the impossible feat completed, he strode back home with the arrogance of the mighty. Because that’s what he was then — mighty. Mighty enough to have bested the hunt twice and outwit the spectral masterminds, but not enough to garner the one thing he so desperately wished to obtain.
To be head of Beltran was passed along right before his greed soaked eyes.
Right into the hands of his dear little brother. Devastated and enraged, Bishop let the hatred fester in silence. He was no fool — it wouldn’t do him any good to trample around and raze a path straight through. It was his brother, after all — part of his own shared flesh and blood. And yet, the pull of such knowledge had lessened with the soul willingly given in trade for power. So he plots and schemes in private as the need to grow in strength continues to blind guide him.
MISC. INFO .
Another attempt at the hunt took place right after Rook was decreed as the Beltran head. Instead of boasting about a flawless execution, Bishop had been cursed by a fallen victim’s lover shortly after. Said curse forced him to shift into the wolf like beasts he rode with whenever he was set out to kill. Devastated by how horrific of a being he turned into, he left behind the hunt and went out to find a way to break the curse. It took a handful of years, but Bishop managed to get some help through the various connections he formed. The two of them had tried just about every single trick in the book until they were left with one choice. Kill the being that cast the curse in the first place. It should have resulted in a complete break of the curse, but Bishop was still left with some attributes of a bloodthirsty beast.
He’s a mega bitch and is pointedly pleasant at best.
Still loves his grandmother and brother to some amount. It’s just... really twisted now :^)
If Bishop needs to find the soul for a particular deceased then that’s where Luther comes in. As a barghest, Luther is able to guide and/or hunt wandering souls. So, as long as another entity didn’t eat, or take, the wanted soul then Luther is able to retrieve it for him.
UPDATE .
At surface level, the deal made with the Dimension Witch is simple. The power Bishop sought in trade for a piece of his soul. If he was to ever return the power to the Dimension Witch, his portion of soul would be returned. Though he thought he’d been thorough, there was a condition overlooked. If the power is returned, all experience gained in magic and memory will be given to the Dimension Witch. Meaning, he would forget everything that happened subsequent the deal.
Seeing as Bishop recently returned the enhanced power, he has forgotten everything since the initial deal. He doesn’t remember the pain he’d inflicted on Rook or the lies he spread during his short reign over Beltran. All he remembers is the last quest he survived and is severely confused over the conditions in Selphia.
CONNECTIONS .
Best friend that made an oopsie ( 0/1 ) — aka the person that tried to help him break that beastly curse. Again, it should’ve worked, but here Bishop is.... still sharp fanged and wicked clawed whenever he gets intensely angry.
Clients of the Soulful Boo-tique — Anyone with a sense of fashion and high counts of DOLLAR PHILS comes by these doors. Soulful Boo-tique where the high-end selections of clothing are boundless and fashion comes from the soul. ( Yes this started as a front to convince people he’s totally normal and not scheming things, but he actually does really like fashion ).
Clients of the damned — Listen to the right people and a ticket to the resurrection of a lost one can be found at Bishop’s doorstep. He offers services for anyone to communicate with the dead so long as they offer adequate payment. Make no mistake, though. This is very much a monkey’s paw ordeal and he feels no remorse for those foolish enough to tamper with those that have passed. Any distortion of the body or soul isn’t his problem. And, no, he won’t help them get out of the mess.

[Suicide Squad Scrap] Princess pt. 13
self-indulgent batjokes-flavored SS/BvS/JL, snippet #13.
the piece as a whole is rated Mature for pervasive language, varying degrees of violence, use of controlled substances, sexual references, questionable ethics, and themes of mental illness. set from Flag’s POV, with references to Birds of Prey, but not compliant with The Suicide Squad.
***
Flag isn’t entirely sure what he’s looking at. It seems like a mission brief, but all it’s got in it is a dossier largely composed of black ink and blank space and a blurry photograph of two men standing together.
Kane, David. Alias “Black Manta.” Thirty-six. African-American, species Homo [Sapiens] Sapiens, no known metahuman traits.
“An…old acquaintance has reached out with some information,” Waller tells him. “David Kane, last seen swearing bloody vengeance against the heir of Atlantis, is currently being rehabilitated in a not-quite-secret lab in the south Pacific. Paramilitary, highly trained and of negotiable loyalty, just like we like ‘em.”
“Revenge is bad for business.”
She gives him a dry look. “You think we’ll actually have to worry about him ending up face-to-face with that vapid surfer-boy? If they happen to find themselves within arms’ reach of each other, I say let ‘em duke it out. Curry’s a loose cannon, anyway. The only promise better than one that costs nothing to keep is one you never have to keep. Our public image can easily survive the death of some overblown Greenpeace cover model. Meanwhile, Kane has access to useful intelligence and some very special technology, and ARGUS will take anything we can use to further secure the country, especially against a threat that can bring catastrophic force to bear on any coastline.”
Flag fidgets with the file. “Rehabilitated.”
“Getting in the way of someone else’s war can be dangerous; his last encounter with Curry left him badly injured. Normally, finding Dr. Shin’s lab would be quite hard, but a little magic can go a long way, as you well know.”
Flag feels a chill, but holds perfectly still. “Really.”
Waller hands him another page.
Zatara, Zatanna. Thirty-three. Italian-American, species Homo [Sapiens] Magi. Known associates: Giovanni Zatara (d. father); John Constantine (ex-husband); Bruce Wayne (ex-boyfriend); Hawkgirl (alias “Shayera Hol”? unconfirmed).
The rest of the page is as unhelpful as Kane’s profile.
“A magic user, ugh.” He makes a face. “I fuckin’ hate magic.”
“She presented me with the location of the lab, unprompted. No idea what she hopes to get out of it.”
Flag sighs. “Don’t suppose you got a dossier on this Dr. Shin?”
“No need. Garden variety obsessive crackpot scientist. Been telling the government about Atlantis and their little undersea wars for years, but nobody wanted to hear it.”
“How’s a guy like that get a ‘secret lab’?”
Waller smiles. “There’s the rub. But there exist in this world a lot of people with more money than sense, and a lot of those people pick strange hobbies. Lex Luthor is a shining example of the breed. In any case, I’m not picky about whether we hire Kane or coerce him—as I said, I do love a promise I don’t have to keep. Make solid contact, get us a reliable line. Don’t take him to Belle Reve, though—we still don’t understand enough about Atlantean tech. In fact, keep him outside our operations as much as possible. Take someone to watch your back, and someone else to gather intelligence.”
“Maybe Bloodsport or—”
“Not yet.”
After a long pause, Flag decides she’s not going to explain. “Okay. We’ll be in the middle of the ocean, so what about King Sh—”
“I have other things in mind for Nanaue. I recommend the Savant. And maybe…Daddy’s little Princess.”
“I don’t particularly trust either one of them to watch my back,” Flag points out.
“Seemed to me the clown’s getting pretty fond of you.”
“Yeah, but he still maims and betrays people he’s ‘pretty fond of.’”
“Oh, don’t be such a candy-ass. Fine. Take Croc and Savant.”
He turns to leave.
“But I’m telling you: nobody gets inside a head quite like the Joker.”
It feels like the proverbial pot calling the kettle black, but he just nods. “I’ll consider it.”
Mostly, he’s going to consider why Waller wants Joker inside that lab. He’s a gifted chemist, by all accounts, but Manta works with tech, not chemicals. Could it be the people? He reads people like books published in very large fonts. Harley used to say it was what made him such a superlative manipulator.
Or maybe…
Flag makes a brief stop with the Geeks—Waller’s classified-level logistics team—and wheedles and cajoles and pouts until they give him the Joker’s file. Fortunately, they’re almost all susceptible to the appropriate bribery from field agents, and Economos in particular seems to be a fan of Flag’s work.
“Remember, you didn’t get it from me.”
“Just like you didn’t get that double-guac Nachorito platter from me,” Flag agrees.
It’s another file with a lot of black stretches and cutoffs marked ‘REDACTED’ in big, unfriendly letters. There’s a page with blacked out pictures next to Arkham and Blackgate mugshots, there’s a verbal list of known tattoos including images of the ones most commonly on display. There’s a dental x-ray.
Back on the first page, in the general info, there’s the only truly useful shit in the file.
Joker (The). Alias “Jack White,” alias “Mister J” (alias “Jack Napier”? unconfirmed). Late forties (unconfirmed; active for twenty years). Mixed-European-American, species Homo [Sapiens] Sapiens, resistant to all known poisons, resistant to all known viral weapons, enhanced healing. Known associates: Harleen Quinzel (alias “Harley Quinn”, ex-girlfriend), John Consantine (ex-boyfriend? unconfirmed), Tino Maroni (Maroni crime family), Angelo Falcone (Falcone crime family), Harvey Dent (alias “Two-Face”), Arnold Wesker (alias “Scarface”), Edward Nygma (alias “The Riddler”), Jervis Tetch (alias “The Mad Hatter”), Waylon Jones (alias “Killer Croc”).
John goddamn Constantine.
Does that mean Joker knows Zatanna?
“I fuckin’ hate magic,” Flag says again, emphatically.
.End.

↪Fernando never knew a world where he wasn’t expected to inherit his father’s throne. He never questioned it. Even as a child that envied when his siblings were able to have more time to themselves as he endured another lesson from his tutors. But that was the way things were. No one questioned the late Fernando I, not even his own son. You didn’t doubt your king. So from an early age he listened to tutors, trained with his father’s knights, and tried to grasp every rule to the game he was expected to play. His father often stressed that spoiled king was a terrible king. Whenever his mother attempted to coddle Fernando, his father would scold her. He refused to have his son doted on, as it would only make him weak. If there was ever warmth in the late king’s eyes, Fernando was never witness to it. His early memories of his father are filled with the constant harsh expectation placed upon him. He was not praised until he excelled at something. Every time he sparred his father did not send for a healer if he left the ring bruised and bloodied. And while there was love between father and son it was not the love that most knew. It was distant, and filled with endless expectation.
↪And while perfection was expected of him Fernando wasn’t without his faults. There were times when he and friends snuck of of the palace in drab clothes and drank in taverns until their legs gave out beneath them. Or instead of attending lessons he’d find himself in a brothel or hunting for sport. But every time he fell out of line his father was quick to punish him and remind the prince why he shouldn’t step out of line in the first place.
↪When Fernando’s father passed and it came time for him to take the crown he was hardly a man himself. Due to his father’s illness he quickly married his betrothed Juana of Castile. Just as Fernando has never known life without a crown, he has never known life without Juana. Their betrothal arranged when the two were infants. Upon gaining her own crown with the death of her brother and the bastardization of her niece, their marriage was what would unite the kingdoms of Aragon and Castile.
↪His upbringing already forced him to grow up fast, but his early marriage and coronation also played a role. Fernando’s thought process is often Aragon>Everything else. Even though his own interests are often what he feels is best for his country. This often causes tension with Juana as he’s tried to have Aragon benefit over Castile in the past. He’s wary of outsiders, and will rid himself of one alliance if he feels another is more beneficial. He’d even put most of his children behind his own interests with the crown, just as his father before him did.
↪Personality wise he can be somewhat of an enigma. Few people know who he really is. Sometimes Fernando himself doesn’t understand quite who he is. If he thinks you’re a waste of time he won’t give you the time of day. If he feels he can benefit from knowing you he’ll take advantage of that. For him most relationships are viewed from a political standpoint. There’s only the rare handful of people that he sees as more than that. His upbringing hardened him. He’s often very cold to people, even his own advisors. That carefree nature that struggled to reveal itself when he rebelled as a teen was pushed down to a place where it could no longer get away.
↪Fernando’s motto is often duty before all else. But only if the duty benefits his country and his interests.
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
I’m open to a lot of different plots. I should have my wc page up soon. But if you have anything in mind you want to do with your character and Fernando just send me a message and I’d love to plot it out.

Manifest - ‘Vanishing Point' Review
"Sometimes the things he draws, they've happened already but he couldn't have known... Other times, they haven't happened yet..."
What makes for a great episode? I would submit that one template for a great episode is an episode where the characters you know and love, faced with a critical situation, band together and take it on with everything they've got--and have two or three plot twists thrown at them for good measure.
Grace called the cops, like any parent would upon finding her kid missing, but Ben is concerned that The Major may have informants in the NYPD. Michaela enlists Jared to falsely report that Cal is with his grandfather, which ends the police investigation.
Ben takes a look at Cal's sketchbook, and they quickly realize that the pictures are clues to finding Cal, and that Autumn tore out one of the pages. Grace recognizes one of the pictures as the town square in Tannersville, in the Catskills--someplace she and Olive went the previous summer (with Danny, no doubt), but where Cal has never been before. While Michaela and Jared go to work giving Autumn a thorough and well-deserved grilling, Ben and Grace borrow Danny's big honking 4WD pickup truck--that must have been a really awkward conversation, but we didn't get to see it--and head for Tannersville.
For the rest of the episode, our main characters are hitting on all cylinders, and each of them contributes to the effort to locate Cal: Ben, Grace, Michaela, Jared, even Olive, who finds a key message in Cal's secret hiding place. It turns out that Cal wasn't taken by The Major or anyone else, he left on a calling of his own.
The drawing Autumn took from the sketchbook was of Autumn and the daughter she lost custody of when she went to prison--the source of The Major's leverage. On the back of that page is a drawing of a cabin near Tannersville, where Ben and Grace eventually find Cal. About two minutes later, a man bursts in and promptly collapses, suffering from hypothermia. Inside Cal's backpack there is a sleeping bag and first aid supplies, exactly what is needed to treat the injured man.
His name is Zeke, and he relates that he was on an extended camping trip when he got caught in an intense blizzard. (There is no snow on the ground outside the cabin. This is not a plot hole or a continuity error, as you'll see in a few sentences.) He holed up in a cave and tried to stay warm by starting a fire, using the December issue of Celebrity Dossier Magazines for kindling. The cover story of this issue ("Four Years Later, and Still No Answers") was about the people lost on Flight 828. The last page had a picture of Michaela, and when he saw it Zeke felt a compulsion to go out in the snow, repeating to himself, "Find her." (That's right, Michaela's (and Cal's) snowstorm vision was from Zeke's perspective.) For his part, Zeke has never heard that Flight 828 returned. As the cover date on the magazine reveals, Zeke's camping trip, and the blizzard he got caught up in, took place, not in the show's "present day" of 2018, but in December of 2017.
"828" Watch
Blink-and-you'll-miss-it sightings of the arc number on the pages of Celebrity Dossier Magazines.
Also on the manifest....
The scene at the end of the first act, where it cuts from Cal's sketchbook drawing of his parents and his aunt to closeups of his parents and aunt looking at the sketchbook, to the final shot of the three of them standing in the exact same composition as the drawing, was probably the coolest thirty seconds of the series so far.
Over the course of the episode, Grace and Ben have the conversation they should have had eight or nine episodes ago. Grace finally comprehends just how mysterious and ominous the callings are, and how hard Ben has been working to protect his family. Ben finally realizes that his OCD tendencies got the best of him and he should have read Grace in on the full story concerning the callings, the missing passengers, and The Major, much sooner. It seems they are on the way to patching things up.
Speak of the devil, we finally get to meet The Major. She's seen taking a call from her underling while standing on the balcony of a really high end New York apartment she's thinking of buying or renting. She's played by Elizabeth Marvel, an alumna of Person of Interest.
Given that foster care and adoption records are not open to the general public--in many states, even an adoptee has to jump through bureaucratic hoops to get access--it's pretty impressive that Michaela tracked Autumn's long-lost daughter down in just a few hours, with no court orders.
Tannersville is a town of 539 people, according to the last census, and bills itself as "the painted village in the sky."
Now playing in-universe at the Lafayette Theater in downtown Tannersville: What Lies Beneath.
The page of Celebrity Dossier Magazines with Michaela's picture on it has quotes about her from Olive, the precinct captain, and the rector of Michaela's church.
Quotes
Michaela to Autumn: "You know, for a con artist, your poker face sucks hard." Ouch.
Olive: "I can feel him, just like last time. I think he's in danger, and he's terrified, and it's like he's trying to send me, like--oh my God."
Grace: "Sweetie, how did you get here?" Cal: "I took a bus to Tannersville, got a ride from Max at the gas station, then I walked up from the road." Grace: "I don't understand. Why? Why did you do this?" Cal: "This is where I'm supposed to be."
Grace: "You were trying to take care of us, all of us, all this time. I didn't see it." Ben: "I didn't let you see it."
The Major: "If I've learned anything running point for 22 years, there's no need to chase the enigma when it lives right in our backyard." What does that mean, and what enigma did she start "running point" on back in 1996?
Conclusion
The best episode of the series yet. Tense, exciting, well written and acted. Four out of four borrowed pickup trucks.
Baby M prefers small, agile sports cars to big 4WD pickup trucks.

«Ride Home»
Purple Ranunculus, meaning “You are radiant”.
A gift for @dork-sen for the Sheith Flower Exchange ( @sheithbouquet ) based of the song "Ride Home"by Ben&Ben.
I really hope you like it!! ;;;;
Read on AO3 or under the cut
Prosthetic fingers drummed on the leather cover of the wheel with no rhythm in particular. A familiar song on the radio filled the car with a pleasant harmony, but Shiro’s ears were deaf to anything but his own thoughts, the mechanized movement of reaching for the gearshift barely processed by the Japanese man. Ahead of him, miles of deserted highway expanded into sandy canyons and red dunes; this was a trip he had done before, countless times, but gravity seemed to be weighing harder on him, twisting his belly into the complex pattern of boating knots.
Before, he would travel to the Arizona desert to pick up Keith, or to stay over at his boyfriend’s house for the weekend. This time , he thought, looking over his shoulder to the back seat, where a gym bag filled with clothing items and a backpack with personal possessions had been tossed, he was going home.
~*~
“Hey there, buddy! Looking to get inked?”
Shiro glanced up from his sketchbook to salute the boy who had entered his tattoo parlor, apparently started by the bell attached to the door. Under the purple neon sign that read “ Black Lion Ink ,” a young man with the full bad boy™ attire crossed his arms over his chest, onyx-colored hair styled in a mullet and indigo eyes piercing through Shiro with the intensity of a whole galaxy. His nose was rather perky, sprinkled with nearly missable freckles, the angle of his jaw sharp, peachy lips that suffered from obsessive-compulsive biting pressed into a thin line. He wasn’t very tall and seemed rather thin under a red leather jacket and skinny black jeans with decorative silver chains, but his attitude suggested he had a foot heavy enough to kick any condescending bastard to the opposite corner of the room.
Small but angry. Cute .
“Yeah, I guess,” was the response, as the potential canvas walked to the counter, eyes darting to the several frames of artwork signed by the Japanese man, exposed on the walls of the studio. He whistled and Shiro smiled. “You’re Shiro...? I uh… I’m Keith. I heard about your work from a friend.”
“Yep, that’d be me.” Absentmindedly, the tattoo artist ran his fingers through his bleached white forelock, pushing it back to blend in with the black strands before it stubbornly flopped back to his forehead. It wasn’t uncommon for former clients or fellow colleagues to put in a good word for Shiro’s work, be it vocally or via social media; he specialized in Japanese traditional, though he could pull off mostly any style with flawless technique and extreme precision. He wasn’t cocky, but he was confident in a healthy measure, and proud of his hard-won reputation. “What were you looking to get?”
“Don’t know, really. Can I see that?” He pointed at the portfolio that had been left open on a random page by the last curious customer; and the eldest noted the fingerless carbon fiber biker gloves Keith wore; stylish.
“Go on ahead.”
The dossier was promptly presented to the boy, who flipped through the processes of old, new, discarded, and formerly executed tattoo designs. Those that had been inked already were accompanied by photographs of the final result upon the skin and written reviews of their bearers regarding Shiro’s performance and care.
While Keith took his time to look over Shiro’s work, the latter seized the chance to examine him from a closer distance this time. He had very beautiful skin, dreamy, the perfect white canvas for any artist’s masterpiece. Clearly, this boy was no ink virgin, as the bursts of American traditional bright red and bold lines peeked through the collar of his shirt suggested. He must have more tattoos somewhere too; guessing from experience, those who got chest pieces had begun elsewhere, in less painful areas. Maybe the arms? The thought of asking his client to remove his jacket and T-shirt was suddenly charged with an erotic connotation that was better left away from his work hours, so he refrained.
“This one is neat,” he heard him say, after a silent while. “Can I get this?”
The artist chuckled fondly at the memory of the drawing he had specially made at the request of Allura’s dad. His first big project with over thirty redesigns and chronic back pain, resumed in hours of blood, sweat and tears, and a goddamned stunning backpiece. It could’ve been a disaster, but Alfor trusted him, from the beginning to the end of it. That red lion held a very dear meaning and the way he saw it, no one else would be fitting for that design but the sweet man who had welcomed Shiro into his small family as a son, even after him and Allura broke up back in senior year of college.
“Why that one?” he questioned, platinum colored eyes locking with the client’s.
“No reason. I like it.” a shrug. To that, Shiro held back and eyeroll and a sigh. Oh. One of these . What a disappointment.
“It goes against my policy to tattoo designs that are meaningless to the canvas.” he explained, with the utmost seriousness and professionalism of a lawyer. Keith didn’t seem too pleased, eyebrow raising in bitter assumption.
“You don’t know me.”
“But I will, once I figure what to tattoo on you.”
“I can just go elsewhere to get this done.” Keith snapped, open palms upon the marble of the counter as he measured the other with his eyes. “You’re pretty full of yourself, you kn--”
“You can leave, and you’re within your right to, but I don’t see you walking away.” Shiro smirked at his own remark, taking some sweet satisfaction in how the young boy glared at him with a pursed pout, boot tapping on the linoleum floor of the studio with childish impudence. After dragging the silence for long enough to savour what was already his victory, Shiro proceeded, “Look, Keith, I would love to tattoo you; I just want to make sure you won’t look at my work five, ten years from now and regret having it on your body. We can figure out a design for you, perhaps over coffee? I’m taking a break soon.”
There were long moments of ponderation, Keith’s face twisting as he mentally evaluated the possible outcomes of this situation (either that or he was remembering the first time he licked a lemon), and finally settled for an answer.
“... Fair enough,” that corner smile might have caused Shiro’s heart to skip a beat. “But you’re paying.”
~*~
Shiro parked next to a motorbike that had definitely seen better days, despite being loved enough that the owner refused to give up on the rusty pipes or poorly executed paint job. After turning the key in the ignition to cease the roaring of the powerful engine of his car, Shiro exited the vehicle to be greeted by the lean form of Keith Kogane leaning against the doorframe, up on the porch.
“Took you long enough.”
“Sorry, I was thrilled by the ever shifting landscape of the desert. I’m almost sure the single cactus near the road moved an inch to the left since last time I passed by, I swear.” there was heatless sarcasm in Shiro’s reply, but a smile on his face, as he picked up the luggage from the backseat. He walked to the entrance of the house, the wooden steps creaking under his boot, stopping mere inches in front of the smaller man in silent expectation, the bags dropped to his feet. He was about a head taller than Keith and had to look down at him, head tilting to the side. “Missed me much, is that it?”
“Hm. You know it,” Keith moved to cup Shiro’s jaw. The Japanese man couldn’t help but to smile at the tattoos that covered both of those hands, the first pieces that he had had the privilege to tattoo on this man two years ago: large twin purple ranunculus flowers, blooming on each dorsum. Keith’s nails carded across the identical designs that Shiro had recently gotten on both shaved sides of his head, pulling them closer to lean foreheads.
Ranunculus. Too gorgeous to be real, often present in wedding bouquets in their majestic, exquisite rose-like blossoms, layer upon layer of radiant beauty. That was Keith for Shiro, and Shiro for Keith. Their lips met halfway, in the stamen of their passion, arms engulfing them in the eternal petals of commitment.
Shiro was home.

Two weeks before the Inauguration, intelligence officers briefed both Obama and Trump about a dossier of unverified allegations compiled by Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer. The thirty-five-page dossier, which included claims about Trump’s behavior during a 2013 trip to Moscow, had been shopped around to various media outlets by researchers opposed to Trump’s candidacy. The dossier concluded that Russia had personal and financial material on Trump that could be used as blackmail. It said that the Russians had been “cultivating, supporting, and assisting” Trump for years. According to current and former government officials, prurient details in the dossier generated skepticism among some members of the intelligence community, who, as one put it, regarded it as a “nutty” product to present to a President. But, in the weeks that followed, they confirmed some of its less explosive claims, relating to conversations with foreign nationals. “They are continuing to chase down stuff from the dossier, and, at its core, a lot of it is bearing out,” an intelligence official said. Some officials believe that one reason the Russians compiled information on Trump during his 2013 trip was that he was meeting with Russian oligarchs who might be stashing money abroad—a sign of disloyalty, in Putin’s eyes. Trump denounced the dossier as a fake. Putin’s spokesman called it “pulp fiction.” But, before the dossier became public, Senator John McCain passed it along to the F.B.I.; later, some of his colleagues said that it should be part of an investigation of Trump. Richard Burr, a Republican from North Carolina and the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, vowed to investigate “everywhere the intelligence tells us to go.”
