Scaramouche snorts out a puff of air, not quite laughing but not exactly bitter either. It is not exactly funny, but he almost feels bad for the Eleventh Harbinger--  young, doe-eyed and ignorant. It was no secret that he was the Tsaritsa’s lap dog, pledging his loyalty to her over his own interests and desires. The old Scaramouche found it pathetic. Absolutely weak and unfortunate. Well, it was still unfortunate but for other reasons. Spending time in Sumeru, learning about the people, culture, and emotions, Scaramouche realized many things about himself, the Tsaritsa, and the world overall. He had plenty of time to think about his personal goals and decide what he wanted for himself while he was recovering from his his injury. While he once gave his allegiance to the Tsaritsa, the cryo archon, he no longer wished to serve her, aid in her vision in collecting the visions by sowing unrest. 

Though she was the archon of love, he wondered when the last time she actually loved someone. The Tsaritsa lured Harbingers in to get what she wanted, not to truly create a home for them. Scaramouche didn’t exactly call Buer family, but she’d made him see things more clear and put himself first. He didn’t intend to be a mindless minion doing the bidding of a woman who has long since cursed the world behind a wall of ice. 

“I am no longer the Balladeer. I abandoned that title,” he said, cautious not to make the other erupt with any intense emotion that would call for combat. Scaramouche was not exactly scared of it, but he was still recovering from his injury and had yet to fully master the limits of the vision bestowed upon him by the anemo archon. He was aware of his limits and did not want to deal with another Harbinger when not in his best condition.  

“Look, my decision was made long ago-- I haven’t exactly been with the Fatui because of my allegiance to the Tsaritsa,” he explained, surprising even himself with his outburst. He did not owe the other his words, but he was working out his own thoughts by speaking them aloud. He did have a tendency of oversharing-- though that usually extended to his rude remarks and side comments-- times when he was consumed by emotion. Of course, he wasn’t upset with Childe, but rejecting his title was a step out of his comfort zone-- the false comfort he sought in Snezhnaya. What folly. Maybe the real ignorant one had been him all along.

“I am turning over a new leaf. It’s not personal,” he shrugged, trying to go for casual and unbothered. “I just no longer wish to be your beloved archon’s puppet. Y’know, we all have brains for a reason. I hope during your hunt that you actually practiced using yours. Or did you treat this whole search like a vacation? How irresponsible,” he added, bickering with Childe out of habit. It was almost comforting arguing with his colleagues, no matter how annoying he thought they were. He had known them for years and unfortunately change was never easy even when you have lived for a long time.

“Is this good enough for you?” he asked, not seeking permission but making sure that the younger would leave him be without much conflict. It was unnerving that the other seemed bothered by his choice rather than thrilled at the prospect of battle.

i actually just realized something today: ngl i was starting to lose hope with all the rina foreshadowing but then i thought if rina was gonna be endgame and portwell were to break up wouldn’t gina and e.j. have their duet earlier in the season? i mean ig it’s possible that it could be a breakup song but given the possible covers and the way hsm 2&3 and camp rock 2 turned out for the main couples i’m not totally hopeless yet when it comes to portwell🤞

These two asks are addressing the same thing, so I'm putting them together. I'm a little confused about what the placement of Portwell's duet in S3 would have to do with the Gina/Ricky foreshadowing, but I'm glad you still have hope! Lol. In all honesty, I really don't care what song EJ and Gina sing, as long as Matt and Sofia finally get their long awaited duet. All the other ships got their musical moment:

I believe Matt and Jason described Portwell's duet this season as 'adorable' and 'fun' in previous interviews, so it's definitely not "gotta go my own way" Lol. Given a line in 3.03, I'm fairly certain PW will sing "love is an open door," which, when taken out of context, is an objectively adorable/fun song. Of course, as you watch the musical progress, we learn that Hans is being deceptive when he sings that song to Anna. But EJ is not playing Hans in the musical, nor is he the Hans-like figure in Gina's life. When you take the lyrics out of the context of Frozen, I would make the argument that it fits PW quite well. I've seen some people upset about Gina and EJ possibly singing this song as their duet, but again, I feel like Corbin will probably throw EJ into it because Jet is missing rehearsals, and they need to film something. I can totally picture EJ and Gina having a realization as they're singing the lyrics because it does fit their story quite well (and I mean the story that the show has been telling with them. Not in the context of the musical). It honestly just sounds like more foreshadowing of Portwell falling in love someday (which the show already did via song, twice- "if I can't love her" and "something there"). Besides, regardless of what they sing, I cannot wait to hear Matt and Sofia finally get their own duet. "Second Chances" gave us a taste of that, so I can't wait to have a song that's just them.

Kingdom hearts 2 is heartbreaking because sora is so excited to possibly see santa and also to play pirate and then you remember and youre like "oh this child just wanted to have an escapade on a raft and got wrapped up in a worlds saving journey" and he's like decidedly a baby and it is so very sad

HONESTLY like i feel like people forget sometimes that he's just a lil kid who's been forced into all this like who can fucking blame him for his year long naps between games. kingdom hearts 2 has so many moments that fuck me up like besides those lil reminders of sora just wanting to be a kid and not have the weight of the universe on his tiny lil shoulders, there's just everything about roxas, especially those scenes with him and axel in the rain that it's impossible to watch without "gotta go my own way" from hsm playing in the back of my head (speaking of, hsm world when 🤔), there's axels entire death (even if they took it back it still hurt to watch), there's the implication that no one has ever hugged sora before tron which is especially upsetting because there were 2 entire games before this full of his so called friends 😤, there's just so much and im always thinking about it 🥺

as you all know. gabriella is new to east high. as a new student, she’s going to adjust to a whole new school system again but that’s a habit she has gotten used to. but that doesn’t mean she likes it.

Introverted Feeling (Fi): Gabriella is constantly examining what she wants for herself. Will I feel more fulfilled taking advantage of college opportunities or by staying close to the people that are important to me? In contrast to Troy (dominant Fe user), whose main concern about auditioning for a musical is how his friends will react, her main concern is how it will affect her as an individual. She tends to be shy and private about her feelings and prefers not to be in the spotlight. Her main tool for making decisions seems to revolve around what she wants for herself independently, (“I’ve got to move on and be who I am”, “I’ve got to let it go, start protecting my heart and soul”).

in hsm1, who was the first person that actually made her feel she could be herself? troy. he literally made her feel like she belonged there and told her he struggles the same problem of being stereotyped with the status quo the school has given him. troy isn’t used to standing up to people about gabriella because he just knew her. so he said all those lies to his team about gabriella not being important to him and that the musical was just time passing activity without knowing gabriella heard all of it. of course, you’d be hurt if you heard the first person who made you feel like yourself just admitted to everyone that you meant nothing to him. so gabi painfully told him she wouldn’t do the callbacks as well. implying that if he doesn’t wanna do it, she doesn’t wanna do it if he’s just gonna fake it. deep down she’s hurt and scared at what troy did. hence why she told taylor that even if they set troy and her up, no one told troy to said all those things. so everything that troy said in that video was all on him. no script. listen to when there was me and you. each lyric implies how deeply hurt she was. that she hoped troy was this person that could give her happiness that she seeks for so long but ends up hurting instead.

in hsm 2, gabi and troy promised each other that no matter what happens they’ll spend the summer together. gabi admitted to troy that after moving around all the time, all gabi wants more is to spend one summer with her friends. that she’ll remember that summer deep in her heart. at first, she didn’t mind troy being with sharpay because troy admitted in the later part of the film that she knows he’s only doing it to work on the scholarship thing. also it was tradition for lava springs workers to perform in the talent show. she grabs that opportunity so that her friends could relax and do something fun together. but then troy ends up focusing too much on the scholarship thing he didn’t realize he’s becoming someone he’s not: being a jerk to his friends, canceling on his friends the last minute, forgetting his dates with gabi. she lets troy be because she knows it’s important to him. but sharpay crossed the line by banning all junior staff workers to perform and work instead that night. she stood to sharpay. for the first time she stood up for herself and her friends. she tells sharpay off, saying she does not give a fuck about her activities with troy. implying its between her and him. that its not her place to meddle in. but sharpay meddled with her friends. the friends that did nothing but followed the rules and minding their business by practicing for the show. remember gabi first told sharpay don’t give a fuck about us but you really had the nerve to do that to your own brother? how ryan worked so hard on the performance? remember gabi was the one who picked ryan up when sharpay tossed him away once she thought she’s secure with troy. she ends sharpay by telling her that she does not want to play her game because she’ll always have the upper hand but she better watch her actions and its consequences because there will always be someone who will end up injured by it. after that, troy confronts her about hearing her quitting her lifeguard job. think about it. she’s gonna quit because she can’t work another second if troy’s gonna act that way because it pains her to see it. she tells him that working together seemed like a fun idea but after everything, she couldn’t handle it. but she painfully urges him to continue with the scholarship thing. continue with his new job post. but troy quickly defends himself that he’s acting this way because of the scholarship thing. what did gabi reply? she implied that what’s the point on working on this thing he’ll end up losing himself? that he’ll end up losing the real people that will support and love him? i also wanna imply that gabi wouldn’t have broken up with troy if she didn’t confronted sharpay. that stunt pulled a trigger on gabi. meaning if sharpay didn’t fucked up, gabi would’ve stayed with troy. she would’ve ended up being in a toxic relationship with him. yes toxic because she’ll always be in the receiving end of troy’s constant abandonment behavior. she’ll let him pass. not putting herself first. even taylor said that despite troy being the caring boyfriend he is, he’ll bound to fuck up and that gabi shouldn’t let it pass. but gabi puts herself first. in gotta go my own way, the lyrics said that she knows that her and troy are meant to be but right now, she needs to put herself first.

in hsm 3, the only problem was the honors program. lets clear this up. in the deleted scene, she stated that she wants to hold off the program. saying that she was thinking of taking courses in U of A before going to stanford. of course the reason behind this is her not ready to leave yet. leave troy. leave her friends. and especially leave albuquerque. the one place that felt home for a long time. she wasn’t ready to tell troy because she knows that he’ll tell her to attend the program. the reason why gabi doesn’t wanna leave is because if she leaves, she knows that she’ll have to leave everything behind. the same way she has been doing since moving around the country. her phone call with troy was her saying that she couldn’t do the long distance thing no matter how much her and troy talked about it. it’ll always bring her pain to go back to albuquerque for her to leave again. if she went back for prom and graduation, her pain would double. she tells troy that she loves him but she couldn’t leave stanford because it has become her priority now.

How would you improve the episode AYA?

...wait...you’re asking me?

I...I didn’t expect this...

The thing is is that I don’t think I could possibly come up with ideas for this better than, say, @authenticcadence18 or @springsfordays because their ideas are just too good (seriously, check them out, they have the literal best ideas for a rewrite of AYA, holy crap).

But if I were to rewrite it...hm...let’s make a checklist for stuff about AYA that just miffed me:

1. Plot B is fine. Plot B was probably the best part of AYA - Doof’s dilemma made sense for his character (and is hilarious), tied in with the name of the episode, and involved fun little shenanigans. My only gripe is that they didn’t go MONDO insane with it at the end, and said ending felt really abrupt.

(I also wish that, somehow, even Doof was involved with that “everyone knew” bit, but we’re gonna be scrapping that joke for this story - that joke is FUNNY, but it’s also degrading to Phineas, and is sorta a nice way of saying “yeah, you’re stupid for not noticing her feelings even though she’s not entitled to them - you’re the problem. It’s not like the episode is trying to hint at you two having switched roles, no, you’re the only one who was being oblivious and stupid.”)

2. We cut out Plot C entirely. Everyone trying to get Phineas and Isabella together was just...ugh. Why? And they had the audacity to compare what they were doing to all the AMAZING things they did when they were younger, like, guys - you set up some tables, decorations, and cooked them what I can assume to be a run-of-the-mill restaurant dinner - that has NOTHING on a rollercoaster through downtown. And their applause at that sweet but ultimately lackluster confession? Hurt. So much. Now that I think about it, it felt condescending, it unintentionally emphasized HOW uninspired this confession (as much as I love it) was, and it felt like they were taking credit for something they didn’t do.

And if we’re NOT gonna cut out Plot C...have Plot C be about FERB? Leaving for COLLEGE? Out of COUNTRY? Cuz I have a hard time believing that Phineas and Ferb are just OKAY with separating at such a long distance - heck, in “Candace Gets Busted”, FERB is the one who assumes that one day he and his brother are gonna own their own place together. It should at least be BROUGHT UP, don’t you think? (I’m conflicted on whether or not I’d keep Montessa in the ring or at least SHOW US how Ferbnessa happened, because I think what’s weirding people out is that they’re assuming that Vanessa literally waited for Ferb to turn 18 to start dating him - when I think it’s more likely that they kinda JUST started dating during the beginning of Summer? But I think stuff like that really SHOULD be explained because even though I don’t think it’s that weird, I understand why OTHER PEOPLE wouldn’t like the idea)

3. I kinda feel like this should have had more songs? I dunno why, I feel like this all could have been improved if we got a fullblown musical out of this (and...this may be me wanting a “What Might Have Been” reprise, lol) - like, make fun of HSM or something, you can’t tell me you wouldn’t have.

4. I kinda wanted to see more of the “where are they now”. Like, Jeremy, Stacey, Little Suzie Johnson, even that one couple with the lady who’s always like “what did you think, an anniversary dinner was just going to fall from the sky?” - I like stuff like that, it’s so much fun to think about. Also...I legit have so much anxiety over Perry never interacting with him owners ONCE in that episode, and even more anxiety over Pinky never making an appearance at all. Heck, if there was a good time to show us what the HECK happened to Django, now would be a great time.

5. I would have given the episode a unique intro, ala “Night of the Living Pharmacists” and “Last Day of Summer” - like, AYA is as much of a status quo shifter as those two episodes, why was it given the “Phineas and Ferb Get Busted” treatment?

6. Here’s a brilliant thought - NO ONE tells Phineas about Isabella’s crush? How about instead Phineas goes and wants to check in on her, because he really misses her and doesn’t understand why they don’t talk anymore (and he’s tried before, and they’ve nearly had conversations, but Isabella’s just too busy) - did he do something wrong? Is Isabella just too busy now? He needs to know. That should have been his priority, none of this “FrIeNd ZoNe” nonsense.

7. I would have made this into a near movie-length special. With all the topics that this episode brought up, particularly the whole “manipulating the situation” thing, I feel like a longer episode would have given them more time to talk about how stuff like that is...not okay.

[READ THE ACTUAL REWRITE OF THE EPISODE (well, my take at least) UNDER THE CUT!]

Okay, with those out of the way, how I would have written Phinabella the Movie...I mean...Act Your Age (I warn you, it’s not gonna be as good as @authenticcadence18′s or @springsfordays‘s ideas, so if you want quality stuff and not just mushy fanfiction fodder I’d check their stuff out):

I would have sorta made this entire thing take place during the “What Might Have Been” song - what that means is that it’s a collage of memories. How Isabella and Phineas met, how Isabella first got her “crush” (if you can really call it that, girl was full out in love lol), them building stuff with the gang during their canon ages, them going into highschool, Isabella ultimately choosing to give up her crush to maintain her friendship with Phineas (because her choosing to not be as close to Phineas because of a crush isn’t an option), Isabella’s first boyfriend (which probably’s gonna hurt a lot of fans, cuz I envision that to NOT be Phineas; but it’s Phinabella endgame, so relax); the episode just centers on the gang (mainly Isabella since it’s from her perspective) growing up.

Like, yes, all of the memories are gonna be Phinabella centered, but we gotta have SOME side-stories and junk, like maybe how Baljeet gets together with Ginger (and...how they break up...please don’t kill me), what ultimately leads Ferb to want to go back to England for studies (maybe it’s him wanting to be his own person and not wanting people to think he and his brother are just “a pair”), Buford...uh...something with Buford definitely, because I love him and he deserves it. Heck, maybe even the Fireside Girls can have their own arc with a graduation ceremony for their ranks (...what? I’m not linking stuff to the best fanfic ever, noooooo...why would-why would I do that?).

And maybe in this case Plot B SHOULD be different - maybe it should focus on how Doofenshmirtz first got to America, how he first met Charlene, what exactly led him to being evil in the first place, all that good stuff. Though, ultimately, that might be a little angsty - maybe there’s a reason why we don’t see exactly HOW Doof and Charlene divorced, because that could very well be the saddest scene ever, and it’s hard to put that kinda comedic spin on something so tragic (I mean, obviously there are comedies CENTERED on divorce, but like...they always SKIP the divorce part from what I’ve seen). Not to mention that this is a kid’s show, so...I doubt they’d actually show HOW it happened. This is just my thoughts. X’D

Back to the Phinabella.

Phineas and Isabella would have their confession during THIS part of the special rather than the very end (so, like...they’re still in highschool, and Isabella’s already broken up with that other dude in the story, and maybe Phineas had a girlfriend he just wasn’t happy with) - Phineas tries to do something big for Isabella, but it ultimately falls through because of Perry’s current nemesis (we never see who that is, lol), so he settles for something simple (at first he’s scared about it not “being enough” for someone like Isabella, but Ferb’s able to slap that nonsense out of him pretty quickly). He and Isabella spend the ENTIRE DAY together alone, leading to Phineas eventually singing a song he wrote for her to her, and the two have a cute little duet as a result (that has the opposite energy of “What Might Have Been”, so it’s important that somewhere in this episode that “What Might Have Been” is still a thing, it just doesn’t involve Phineas being aware of Isabella’s feelings, and it doesn’t involve Isabella trying to leave somewhere without saying goodbye, this would be more about Isabella, after trying to get over her crush, realizing that she still LIKES Phineas that way). They almost kiss, but they’re ultimately interrupted by Buford being Buford or something, but it implies that Phineas and Isabella are now a couple onwards from here.

Eventually it leads to a small party in the middle of Summer with the gang, with them playing some games and talking about how by the end of Summer, they won’t be seeing each other as much anymore because of college and stuff. They all remanence about the simple times - with Isabella eventually leaving (saying it’s because she needs to check on something, but really it’s because she’s sad that things are ending so quickly and she’s gonna miss everyone especially Phineas), and Phineas going after her to see if she’s alright (he’s oblivious, but he’s always been able to tell if she’s sad for the most part, save for maybe a few instances - but he’s older now, so he’s probably better at telling).

The two go for a stroll outside, and discuss the changes and stuff, how he and Isabella are ultimately going to have to work on a long-distance relationship and how Phineas is going to miss Ferb when he leaves the country, and how he’s gonna miss Isabella. And then they both realize that everything is gonna be okay, because they’ve literally dealt with worse situations and came out stronger for it - Isabella nor Phineas have any doubts in their minds that their relationship with each other or anyone else is going to sever just because of long distance.

Time moves onward, and there are a lot of changes (mainly talking about couples and other stuff - if it were me, there’d be endgame Buford/Gretchen and Ferb/Ginger of all people, and of course Candace and Jeremy would be married by this time). Phineas and Isabella are about to go into their last year of college, and decide to spend one more day together before they, once again, go their separate ways. The gang surprises Isabella by having made an ACTUALLY GOOD AND CREATIVE BACKYARD DINNER for the two per Phineas’ planning (the idea wasn’t bad, the execution was just lame imo), and long story short, Phineas proposes to Isabella. She obviously accepts, and everyone cheers for them as Isabella inner monologues about how change can be scary but it’s okay some mushy stuff about loved ones being there for you when you need them or something.

And finally, we cut to many years later, with Isabella as an adult now, looking out at the backyard of her current home, drinking some tea - this whole movie/special has taken place in this Isabella’s memories (if that makes sense), as she thinks on how she got there. The story ends with a child (we don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl) calling to her and calling her “mom”, and Isabella leaving to check on her kid.

And...that’s how I would have written “Act Your Age”. Again, I recommend this and this over my idea (because again, their takes on this episode are perfect, I don’t think anyone can top them), but if you like it then great. This was still fun to write out and stuff, and I hope you enjoyed it regardless. ^^;

Seijoh: best boys to do it with. Core 4 in all their chaos? Sign me up! Oikawa, Makki, Mattsun are all down 110%. Iwa is down by default to keep your messy asses in line (but he lowkey wanted to do it too). Everyone knows all the words to EVERY song.Y’all get into a heated debate about which high school musical had the most bangers. Makki and Mattsun are like “come on now how can you not say HSM 2” and someone else like you chimes in “because everyday is boring as shit. They act like their in a cult.” So y’all end up going through the HSM discography taking tallies. This concludes that HSM 2 had the best songs. As y’all just sit there listening, you cross off some songs automatically and Oikawa is like “Gabriella’s songs are boring as shit.” Anyways y’all force Iwa to do the dance to “We’re all in this together” and he leaves y’all shook because he has RHYTHM. oikawa on the other hand—. Iwa simp hours for a large part of it with all y’all being like “Be the Troy to my Gabriella” He hates u all :) At some point y’all are just drunk karaoking to HSM. Dancing on the coffee table and couches to What Time is It (which if y’all were sober yeah Iwa would murder u all). “Bro remember when people used to call u the king?” and that leads to you and oikawa tryna turn Fabulous into a duet. Both drunk on the 2 couches pretending you're at a pool making the others be the little servers. Makki and Mattsun decide to reenact Gotta go My own way. Very drunk and dramatic. Rubbing all over each other's faces. Pulling away then running back doing the most. Yall force drunk Iwa to do Bet on It. Hes seen it so many times and is too intoxicated to not do it so mans goes all out. Does troy dumbass jumping and yall are the best hypemen. Someone is recording but yall can barely hear him through the loud ass cheering and laughing. 

Nekoma: Another fun team to do this with. Yall do the unappreciated movies like STARSTRUCK. Kuroo is a sucker for those and yall both swear up and down the its one of the best and deserved more than it ever got. (He knows all the words to these songs). Yall do this while your on a roadtrip. One of those vans so its you, kuroo (in the driver/passenger), kenma, yaku, kai, lev, fukunaga. Up front yall are living your best lives “Something about the sunshine babyyyyyyyyyyy” acting like the main characters and shit. Someone brings up what if you all played Starstruck characters. “Lev looks the most like Christopher Wilde. Lanky, no rhythm. creepy eyes when he stares too long-” “Hey!” Back to the music. We all know you and kuroo know all the words, lev is pretty good and knows most so hes able to keep up. Yaku is like 50/50. Kai, babe only knows the main ones and only partially. Sits and smiles and laughs at his friends. Gets songs dedicated to him by all of you. Kenma? Don't care. Hes really only on this trip because you guys are his friends. This is one of his least fav disney movies so truly is in mental anguish trying to tune yall out. Fukunaga only knows Stubby’s verses so does the rapping. Lots of “AYEEEEE” going around. Very hype when those songs come on. Lev tries to sing What You Mean to Me to Kenma, but just gets told to shut up. Being very loud and obnoxious with all of them save for Kenma to Starstruck. If you stop at a red light the neighboring cars can probably hear yall’s screeching. Yaku is most likely to be recording the monstrosity on his snap chat, but will not catch himself slipping and entertaining yall. He has a reputation to upkeep. For songs only you and Kuroo know (like welcome to hollywood) he takes one hand off the wheel to hold at you like a microphone. Plays the acoustic and regular version of Hero back to back. Wants to pretend he’s in a music video for the acoustic. One of those sad montage types. 

Inarizaki: what is even going on. You propose it. Kita just shrugs and is like “Ok” Yall listening to Hannah Montana. Twins ruin your singalong time with the debate of How could they not know Miley was Hannah. You dedicate If We Were a Movie to Aran bc dream boy. He sings along happily. Wouldn’t hesitate to hit Atsumu for trying to interrupt and you're like “This is a duet stfu.” Kita watched the show but probably couldn’t really recall many of the words but that's ok. You all do know Best of Both Worlds and even Suna sings along. Not with much energy, but whatever he still participates in. Twins and Suna all are embarrassed to say they know every word to He Could Be the One. Get Kita to threaten the twins and they’ll sing along to it. Another must sing song is Nobody’s Perfect. Grab Suna’s hand and make him sing and dance along, he does it lazily. Maybe a few bobs and sways. Him not screaming the lyrics is drowned out by the rest of yall. That's one of those songs that like you hear that intro you go running towards the dance floor because BANGER. Mid convo- you hear that intro yeah your soul leaves your body and is taken over by the spirit of miss Hannah. Twins try to act that out and do the soul leaving body meme because they share 1 brain cell. Atsumu is more aggressive with his singing along. Like damn calm tf down. When hes hype hes going so hard yall are like “dont hurt yourself lol” Once you start getting into them obscure songs Aran saves the day again by being the only one that knows them. At True Friend Atsumu asks if you think hes a true friend/ “(Y/N) i’m yer best friend right.” Damn yall hear something. Ignore him and keep singing while Osamu and Suna clown his ass. “Kita’s a true friend.” Kita just thanks you. Might return the compliment. “He doesn’t even know any of the songs” ok and???? Yall play another sadder song right after like “i’ll always remember you.” Atsumu lowkey starts tearing up and sniffling. Ha ha pussy. Sad hours when you then play wherever I go and yall all start getting sad. Kita not knowing the songs just looks at yall like ?????? Then he starts listening to yall sadly sing along and its like “damn” sad team hours then. Yall annoying and put your arms around each other and like start swaying because no brain cells are found. It ends up getting aggressive and u feel like your shoulder is gonna fall off so u stop.

JATP is like a 5-hour DCOM

As I’ve expressed previously, when I initially saw the gif-sets for this series I basically said “I’ll pass, thanks.” I don’t know what changed (probably the treachery that is the reality tv I’m currently watching), but I decided to go ahead and check it out, if only for some much needed levity.

And at first, I was not feeling this, like at all. The dialogue was cringey, the songs were *meh*, I couldn’t keep up with the show’s own internal logic.

By episode 5 however, the show was cooking with gas. We had stakes, drama (family drama! relationship drama! band drama!), villains, and yes, humor to round out the whole thing. And that’s when it hit me: this show is basically a 5-hour Disney Channel Original Movie. This shouldn’t have been so surprising, seeing as to how it’s the work of the legendary Kenny Ortega [among others].

Granted, I haven’t seen a new DCOM since 2013 apparently, so at the very least the show harkens back to the movies of yesteryear. Even so, I have to imagine movies [that I haven’t seen] like Descendants or Zombies have some of these tropes:

The Insecure Protagonist Who’s Just Gotta Find The Strength Inside Of Them - Like every single DCOM ever

And let’s not forget Pixel Perfect, the 2004 movie that’s about a guy who has to create a holographically projected character to help his band succeed. Sound familiar? 

--sn: I haven’t seen that movie in ~15 years, when I was kindergarten-aged. Still, I went to rewatch it last night and it’s amazing how you can hear a song from that long ago and go “Yea, I remember this!” Music is a wonderful thing.--

Ortega knows DCOM’s like the back of his hand. When The Cheetah Girls 2 (which Ortega choreographed and directed) premiered, it was the highest rated DCOM in history; High School Musical 2 topped that record a year later, and by the way, that record still hasn’t--nor will it ever be, I’d venture to say--topped.

He knows what makes us, the young, impressionable audience, tick and get invested with the worlds that he builds. He even understands that now, in 2020 and on Netflix, all of that gay subtext that we’ve been talking about in HSM for years can actually be a real thing. So yea, it’s no wonder that people took to this quickly.

We love tacky villains, we love good vs. evil, we love sappy love stories/love triangles, and we of course love an emotional attachment to our characters in a relatable way. 

None of that is really revolutionary tv. You can get all that stuff from any of the aformentioned movies. Where the show does push the boundary is translating that to a streaming platform. It has diversity which is always a plus. It also allows Ortega to thankfully be just as gay as he wants to be. Not just with the style, because some of these dance scenes were exceptionally campy, but with the characters.

Is there a ship name for Alex and Willie? I haven’t checked the tag, I have no idea. What I do know is that the entirety of Alex’s character and storyline is for the most part lighthearted and carefree. These are the stories and character dynamics that I wish any DCOM of my childhood would have broached, the stories Ortega has gone on the record for having wanted to do previously.

The show is not trying to make a statement with that relationship -- it just is. It’s two guys who find each other and discover they have chemistry, as was done with Julie/Luke and the countless other het-ships that we’ve seen on Disney before. The drama that eventually comes between them isn’t derived from their sexuality, but the plot itself. It makes you think, “With the way HSM/DCOM’s were ingrained into our minds, how beneficial to a generation would it have been to have a couple like that in those movies?”

Well we’ll never know the answer to that question, because it never happened (thanks homophobia!). All we had was subtext, because Cadet Kelly totally had a thing for Stone. That is, until now. It took a couple of decades and a totally separate platform from Disney, but the kids of today finally [sorta] have a DCOM that dares to have openly gay characters. Ortega even in 2020 is revolutionizing the genre. And that gives me a smidgen of hope.

Random thoughts on the episodes:

Flynn is not a character. Now for all I’ve been nostalgic about above, we can do part with the 2-D sidekick. One day we’ll talk about how HSM 3 is a terrible movie and how Taylor got *0* character content for 3 movies while being billed as a main character, likely for diversity purposes. Today is not that day I suppose.

It was so weird that they were going there with Julie/Luke, because the actors are clearly a few years apart. Usually to play 16 year olds, a given tv show will hire 16 year olds or they’ll hire 20 year olds. This show did...both, so it’s weird to watch the grown man playing Reggie going after these girls.

The exact moment I was like, “Alright this show is okay”, is when Nick got on the stage and introduced Julie just seconds after comforting her. Mans was WYLIN.

Nick supposedly did everything right. Sucks to suck. And now he’s possessed by Kilgrave. Tuff.

Julie’s whole family dynamic was cute.

Most of the songs were catchy, but by nature of this show they all kind of had the same structure. They were nice, but I won’t be downloading a soundtrack. 

So I liked it. Again, as I can’t fully keep up with the show’s logic: are the guys real humans now? That seems like one of the only plausible ways to keep the show going. But if so, should Caleb still be obsessed with them?

The million dollar question for this show as well: Where do we go from here?

HSMTMTS season 2 song predictions !!

Even though they are doing Beauty and the Beast as the spring musical, it has been said many times they are still doing things from the HSM universe! Im gonna assume it will be mostly from HSM 2 so here are my predictions for who would sing what songs or what songs would be most likely to make it in.

What Time Is It-  probably not going to be used unless it was at the end of the season, but i would love to see it!

Fabulous- Carlos!! he has 100% fabulous energy. I could also see this being a duet with Seb. I want to see more of their relationship this season!

Work this Out- well it seems the theatre department has kind of fallen apart (Ms. Jenn’s job in trouble, theatre burned down) so i can see them doing this song if they are forced to deal with a new director and things aren’t going well. 

You Are The Music In Me- Ricky and Nini. These 2 have the cheesy, music couple energy this song needs. They write songs for each other and they are in love. Its perfect. BUT maybe this song could be used to highlight all of the budding romances in the show (Red and Ashlyn, Carlos and Seb, Ricky and Nini) Maybe they all sing!

I Don’t Dance- CARLOS AND EJ. I am heavily passionate about this song and it being in season 2. I am very sure EJ will be cast as the Beast (he deserves to be even more redeemed and have good arc) and be forced to learn how to dance ballroom and he’s won’t want to step down from his high horse and listen to Carlos. Maybe they would replace the baseball words with Water Polo? Or maybe EJ also plays baseball! 

You Are The Music In Me: Sharpay Edition- I feel like this would have no place in season 2 but I feel like Kourtney would KILL this. I have no plot line it would be connected to tho so :(

Gotta Go My Own Way- If Ricky and Nini don’t perform this when she goes to YAC (because she will duh) i will be so shocked. It fits their storyline and their characters and it would be so heartbreaking but SOO GOOD.

Bet On It- okay so this might be controversial but I think this could be EJ’s song. He has a great voice and needs to show it off (a billion sorrys wasn’t it). I think he could get fed up with everyone trying to paint him as the villain when he is trying to change. This could also be Ricky and EJ duet!

Everyday- (i don’t really like this song that much) this is also controversial because this song makes so much sense for Ricky and Nini but I dont want them to have it? i know i’m surprised too. Okay don’t yell at me, but I kind of want Gina and EJ to sing this? IM SORRY I SHIP THEM SUE ME. this doesn’t fit either of their vocal parts very well tho. it sort of fits a possible storyline where they fall for each other and don’t want to back down and accept their feelings. they both have big egos and pride but i think they could soften each other. Gina doesn’t want to fall for a guy and have to move again (especially someone like EJ) and EJ doesnt want to date a sophomore and only have people know her for dating him because Gina is “so much more than that”. 

All for One- I would prefer them using this song at the end of the season instead of what time is it. I like the beat, but I don’t think its the type of song they would use from the og movies. I think they will end the series with something Beauty and the Beast. 

Other Notes:

In terms of OG music for the series, they NEED to focus on everyone this season. (i love Ricky and Nini but they don’t need to sing every song when the whole cast it talented) Give something to Kourtney about finding herself and deciding what she wants to do in terms of the musical! Give Ashlyn something about being in love for the first time and finding someone like Red! Give Seb and Carlos a duet about their love! Give Gina a song about feeling out of place and missing her mom and all her feelings! Give Miss Jenn a song about her life! GIVE EVERYONE SONGS.

High school musical: Tyrus au

Part 1: Start of something new

The Sky mountain ski resort was bursting with life for the new year.

Well for some people at least down in the lobby Cyrus Goodman sat on a couch invested in a book some hopeless love story only for his mom to come and interrupt.

"Cyrus it's new years eve enough reading" she said taking away his book

"But mom I'm almost done and-"

"There's a teen party I've laid out your best clothes now come get ready" she ordered

"Can I have my book back?" He pleaded only for his mom to give in handing it over.

"Thank you" he smiled

In another part of the resort noise could be heard from the indoor basketball court as T.J Kippen trained with his dad his sneakers squeaking as he swiftly moved around the court.

"Keep working left Teej" His dad coached "Gotta guard in the championship game we're expecting. You'll torch em"

"By going left?" The blonde asked

"Yeah they go to the middle you take it down town"

"What like this?"

T.J dribbled the ball sliding left and shooting through the hoop with ease. His dad grinned happily high fiving his son.

"That's what I'm talking about I wanna see that in the game"

"Boys"

Both head turned to see T.J's mother standing in the door way dressed up all fancy but with a stern look on her face.

"Did we really fly out all this way just to play basketball"

"Yeah" they both answered

"It's new year's eve... the party?" She reminded

"The party" T.J's dad repeated

"T.J they have a kids party downstairs"

"Kids party?" T.J frowned

"Young adults now go shower up" His mom ushered him out the court.

T.J was right these 'young adults' looked like they were barley past the age of 14. He made his way across the room settling in a corner patiently waiting for midnight. Cyrus had also entered finding a space to sit and continue his book it may be loud but he was determined to finish.

The party had a karaoke stage as a boy and a girl finished their song they stepped off and a tall man jumped on stage with a microphone.

"Alright, alright" he projected into the microphone "who's next to come up here and rock the house for us?"

A spotlight wavered across the room to pick two people at random one landing on T.J who looked up startled another landing on Cyrus looking up from his book to be blinded by the sudden light hitting him. Cyrus was taken by the arms and put on stage looking like a deer in headlights as he crossed his arms and looked at his feet. T.J tried to protest as he was pushed towards the stage

"No guys I don't sing, wha- guys!"

Both boys stood in front of microphones looking at eachother but not directly in the eyes.

"Hey you know what some day you guys might thank me for this" the host said "Or not" he quickly added before leaving.

The music started unsure of what to do T.J started singing.

Living in my own world

Didn't understand

He cleared his throat

That anything can happen

When you take a chance

'This is hopeless' T.J thought to himself he turned to go off stage. But Cyrus had a sudden burst of courage seeing the other boy was just as nervous as him.

I never believed in What I couldn't see

T.J looked back having heard his voice the only thing he could was 'wow...'

I never opened my heart

(Oh)

T.J stood in front of his microphone again harmonizing with the other boy

To all the possibilities

Finally looking into each others eyes Cyrus felt his heart do a flip seeing how green they were. They both stood a little taller.

I know that something has changed

Never felt this way and right here tonight

T.J took off his blazer jacket as the crowd around them started to get excited clapping along with them as they sang.

T.J moved closer to Cyrus as they got lost in the music and each others eyes.

The room erupted into applause but the two boys could only focus on one another at how seeing each other felt like love at first sight.

"T.J" The blonde held out his hand

"Cyrus" The brunette responded as the held hands for longer than they should of.

As the crowd began to chat again T.J and Cyrus made their way outside to talk in a quiter place.

"Seriously you have an amazing voice you're a singer right?" He asked

"No only in choirs I tried a solo once and I fainted"

"Really how come?" T.J wondered

"I took one look at all the people staring at me and the next thing I knew I was staring at the ceiling" they both laughed

"Well from the way you sang tonight that story is hard to believe"

"I know it was so cool I've never done anything like that before"

"We sounded great" T.J bragged

"What about you? You sound like you've done a lot of singing." Cyrus continued

"Oh yes my shower head is very impressed with me" T.J joked

The kids inside began to site in excitedly as the count down began.

"10...9...8...7..."

T.J and Cyrus look each other in the eyes. T.J was captivated by the sparkle in Cyrus's eyes occasionally looking toward his lips.

"6...5...4...3...2...1...HAPPY NEW YEAR"

The yelling and fireworks going off made them tear their eyes away from eachother. There was silence until Cyrus spoke up.

"I should... probably go find my mom and wish her a happy New year" he yelled over the crowd

"Yeah me too... I mean not your mom my mom and dad" T.J quickly said Cyrus nodded "Um I'll call you, I'll call you tommorow put your number in"

Cyrus nodded in agreement T.J took out his phone and pointed it at Cyrus the boy smiled as he took a picture they swapped phones T.J took a picture of himself and punched in his number. They handed the phones back.

"Here you go" T.J smiled Cyrus nodded in response and walked away.

"Just so you know" T.J continued unaware of Cyrus leaving "Singing with you is the most fun I've had on this entire vacation. So um where do you live?"

When T.J turned around he was gone he looked back down at his phone to see his bright smile in the picture.

"Cyrus" he said to himself.

He wasn't sure what this meant but he knew it felt right.

This half hour comedy (which honestly should be longer because the episodes go by too fast and there are not enough of them in the seasons) follows Erin Quinn as she navigates high school during the 1990s in Northern Ireland. She attends an all girl Catholic school along with her cousin Orla, and friends Michelle, Clare and James. (That’s right James also attends the all girls school. He’s a Brit and it would be too dangerous for him to attend the boys school during this time of civil unrest.) As the girls experience trivial problems like how to get to a concert or how to avoid people eating pot brownies at a funeral, the historic problems play out in the background. During the pandemic we’re experiencing we can take away living in the moment like these girls from Derry and not overly stressing on big world problems.

Then look no further than the Netflix original Set it Up. 

Two assistants, Harper and Charlie, work in the same building and are experiencing a very “Devil wears Prada” relationship with each of their bosses. They meet one night at work after hours and believe they have the worse boss. A plan gets set in motion to set up their terrible bosses with each other. Then when they’re happy, the two assistants can have their lives back. You already see where this is probably going and who this love story is actually following: Harper and Charlie. I’ve been raving about this movie since 2018 when it first came out and it is still just as great as the first time I watched it. It honestly still gives hope for a great romantic comedy.

Give Cw’s Nancy Drew a try.

One of the Cw’s latest new shows this season, Nancy Drew, re-invents the classic stories we all know and love with a more darker and supernatural spin. If you like Riverdale and the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina then this might be right up your alley. However, as someone who doesn’t watch Riverdale and didn’t fall in love with Sabrina, I am still a big fan of this new adaptation of Nancy Drew. I feel like I’ve experienced a roller coaster of reviews with this one, from really liking it to not so much (because there was too much of the supernatural involved and I just wanted a good mystery) to now really liking it again. I think I just needed some time to understand the vibe of it all and now that I really know the characters I’m liking it a lot. I’m also excited it has been renewed for a second season.

Thanks to Netflix’s new trending list I decided to check out Locke and Key and I am so happy I did. It was fantastic and I can’t wait for season two. Based on the graphic novel by the same name, the series follows the Locke siblings who have just witnessed their father’s murder before traveling cross-country with their mother to his ancestral home, Key house. The house is filled with these magical keys that all have different properties from getting into your mind and looking at your deepest thoughts and desires, a key that opens any door and can take you anywhere, or one that opens a music box that lets you control people. The kids get drawn to the keys and unlock a deeper mystery of the keys and how their dad was involved in it all. Plus, there’s a sinister presence that is after the keys and will stop at nothing to get what they want. Definitely worth checking out!

This show gets better and better each episode. After a freak accident, Zoey gets the ability to hear people’s innermost feelings through song and dance. She’s the only who can hear it, which means she needs to help the person get through the problem in their life. Each episode has a good amount of musical numbers from popular songs to classics and even musicals. Great cast. There is not one character I don’t like. If you are a fan of Glee I would highly suggest checking it out. It’s the show that often gets compared to it, but you don’t have to be a fan of Glee to enjoy it. I wasn’t a die-heart fan and I’m loving Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. It’s a feel good watch that is just what we need at a difficult time like this.

This show has been promoted since Disney Plus was released back in November. There was a lot of hype over it, which made me unsure if it would be worth it, but I gotta say that I really enjoyed it overall. A cross between Glee and the Office, HSMTMTS follows students who attend the school the Disney Original Movie Series was filmed. When the new drama teacher comes to “East High” she is shocked that the drama department has never put on the musical for themselves. There’s a love triangle(s), a large cast of talented singers, drama and mystery. Great new songs that will get stuck in your head and the promise for a second season with a brand new musical to perform. (I’m just bummed it’s Beauty and the Beast and not HSM 2). The episodes are only about 25 minutes and you’ll find yourself finished with the 10 episode season in a matter of hours.

Feeling a telenovela musical?

Then Violetta is for you!

Drama, laughs, love, and music (with more catchy songs you won’t be able to get out of your head), this Disney original from Buenos Aires has it all. You will get sucked into the episodes just like I did and be shocked how far into the series you are in such a short amount of time. I watched all 80 episodes (that are about 40 minutes a piece) in a matter of 2 months. (And now I’m upset that Disney Plus hasn’t released season 2!!) The show follows Violetta Castillo who has just returned home after traveling the globe with her father for years. She wants to be like a regular kid and attend school rather than having a tutor, but her father forbids it. He’s over protective because her mother was a famous singer who then tragically died. He ties it back to the music and forbids Violetta from performing as well. Throughout the first season, she is exposed to a music school where she makes new friends, enemies, and becomes a part of a love triangle (naturally). In the process she rises to be one of the most talented performers, but constantly is worried her dad will find out the truth and make them move again.

Needing a Sci-Fi fix?

Tune into the Cw’s Pandora.

The show aired on the Cw this summer and needs more love and recognition. I was surprised over how much I enjoyed it. When each episode aired I wanted to watch it right away, which then made me upset because I had to wait a week, but you won’t have that problem! The show takes place in the future in the year 2199. Our main character Jax witnesses her family getting tragically killed and is forced back to Earth to live with her uncle who runs a training academy. Jax enrolls in the school and makes several friends a long the way (there are so many ships on this show that I often had trouble deciding who I liked with who). While at the academy she starts to piece together that her family’s death might not have been an accident and that more lies behind it as well as her own past. There were times when I was confused by how much time had passed from the last episode because characters would be very close or references would get made and I’d be like: Did I miss something? But despite all of that I really enjoyed it and am happy there will be a season 2. It feels very Cw in the best way possible, so if you already watch a lot of shows on the network then you should give this one a try.

This Netflix original had been on my list for a while and once the Corona virus was getting more and more serious I felt I needed something to take my mind off of it and also to have a good laugh. Daybreak is doing just that. (I am currently still watching the series so I don’t have a full review just yet.) This show takes place during the aftermath of a nuclear attack. In this apocalypse adults have turned into “zombie-like figures” who are muttering the last thought they had (often a very funny one). The kids are now in charge and each clique in high school has a territory. We follow social-outcast/new kid at school. Josh who is on the search for the love of his life, Sam, that he lost during the night of the explosion. Along the way he finds allies and they form their own tribe. This show is constantly breaking the fourth wall, having characters directly talk and look at us. I thought I would hate it, but I actually really like that feature and am kind of upset now that Josh has not narrated an episode in a while.

Add Kelsey’s 100 Baby Challenge to your Watch Later

Throughout last year, Buzzfeed multiplayer’s Kelsey Immpicciche took up the 100 baby challenge in the Sims 4. What she thought would be a fun challenge and a couple videos blew up into a full series spanning 50 episodes, multiple spin-off series and even a line of clothing (which I am happy to say I own a sweatshirt). Who would have thought watching someone play the Sims and try to have 100 babies with all different parents would be so much fun? Kelsey has made me want to play the Sims and have my very own 100 baby challenge. This challenge is hilarious and fun. I loved all of Kelsey’s commentary as she plays as well as reading the comment section where everyone tries to give her tips. It’s so exciting to see how so many people got involved in this challenge. I hope she continues for season 2 soon!

Need a change in location?

Venture back in time and to Prince Edward Island with Anne with an E.

L.M. Montgomery’s beloved series is adapted with a fresh new take on her classic characters and setting. Across Anne with an E’s three seasons we watch Anne Shirley come to Green Gables and form a family with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. We watch her shake up school and form life long friends. Something that I love about this series is that it is able to incorporate so many of the issues our society is facing today. While not always 100% accurate to the original novels, the show takes liberties with the source material and expands upon it to create something audiences can see as an echo of our conflicts. While this has been a problem for some, I think, once you realize this, you can enjoy the series even more. I know of so many people who have turned to the book after watching and falling in love with this series. Now, during this time, it is the perfect form of escapism. With each season spanning about 10 episodes you will be done and wanting more just like I am. I’m still upset the series has not been renewed.
