Burning of the silmai is an annual tradition found in some western slomen groups. While not all these groups burn the same symbolic beings or do it for the same reasons, the tradition is very recognizable.

In some places, it's simply burning cloth/dry plant figures and singing, others have it more interactive. One variety dedicates this event to a yearly "regret cleansing".

Tokens are made as a preparation for the event. Slomen either make their own or get community-made ones to symbolize a deed or aspect of themselves they want to burn away for the new year. This variety often uses edible materials to build its "simlais" (demon sin suckers, possessors of witches) like hard wet roots covered in heat-resistant coating).

When the fire is over or the fire masters decide, the simlais are taken down and brave men try eating it to show resistance and their ability to carry the burdens of the community (they only eat it if there's anything left).

It's really, really funny how the OUAT writers clearly have noooo idea what to do with Hook when he's fully on the redemption train. Our man goes from interesting bad boy love interest to Wife Guy Number 3 in six seconds flat. Switching to a normal leather jacket does not help this.

It's especially funny because the writers pretty clearly killed off Neal to make way for Hook/Emma, but Neal himself would never have had this problem, because he has bonds and desires outside of Emma to keep him interesting—Henry and Rumple particularly, and even Hook himself. Also Neal just seems more capable of making friends than Hook, like in his mini-adventure with Belle.

They just really shot themselves in the foot here. Even if you want to stick with Captain Swan, keeping Neal alive only helps you, because it gives Hook another emotional connection. Poor Neal. You deserved better.

I feel so bad for Henry. His mother is his other mother’s step grandma which makes his biological mother his step niece and makes him his own uncle. It also makes his grandma his step sister and his adopted mother his step great grand mother. His uncle is a newborn and his other uncle is his step father. His step father’s ex wife is his biological grandmother. His step niece and step great grandmother have sexual tension. His biological grandfather had sex with his step great great grandmother and made out with his step great grandmother aka his mother. He has a step sister from a previously evil clone of his stepfather. This poor boy.

Hey here's a weird (fun?) question: does Christianity exist in the Enchanted Forest? Because Lancelot mentions God that one time. And the Arthurian romances are very heavily entwined with Christianity. But more importantly, I'm pretty sure Hook is wearing a cross necklace? So like. What's going on.

Does he know what that is? Does he just think it looks neat? Do lost objects wash up around Neverland from all the realms and he found it and now he just wears it around with absolutely no clue what it is? Does anyone tell him?

Second question. Does the Disney corporation exist in Once Upon a Time? Because if not, what movie about Mulan was Neal talking about that one time? I assumed the movies were not around, because otherwise Emma (or, even funnier, Neal) would hear Belle's name, put the pieces together in. 02 seconds, and die laughing.

day 2, new OC: Neal!

a failed prototype, Neal was thrown away by his creator, and now lives with two roommates in the city (a normal human and a sort of ghost thing). he goes out of his way to avoid his many, many evil siblings. he likes to learn new things and gain new skills. he’s also pretty good at playing the keyboard, for a one-year-old!

No, he came for Henry. Because Henry is Baelfire’s son, Milah’s grandson. Because when Emma said Neal died Killian just stood there unable to believe it. and he got on his ship to sail away but was unable to because he remembered that boy, Milah’s boy, the one he knew she wished and wished she could’ve seen again. He went back for her, for them, so they could live on in this one piece of them that still existed. In Henry, who had their eyes and penchant for stories and were all that was left.
