Hello there! For the mini event may you please do gintama with the au avatar the last airbender, thank you!
Hello there, my lovely anon! I definitely can do that - I really couldn't come up with solid ideas, so I admit to taking the lazy way out, so have a pretty comprehensive list on what type of Benders everyone would be in this AU! And guys, there are so many characters in Gintama so I swear it wasn't as easy and lazy as it looks! Thanks for sending in a request and I hope you'll enjoy!
Okay, so we're going into this AU with there being the four major bending types - Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Each bending type is as it is portrayed in Avatar: The Last Airbender, with people possessing different degrees of bending and different skills being present within each bending type.
So, when considering which type of Bender each character would be, I kind of broke it down into personality types and traits and qualities to look for, based on what I figure the 'stereotypical' Bender is for each of the four.
Earth Benders are a little rough around the edges, slow to anger, slow to decide on things, but stubborn once their mind is made up. They can be sensitive and they are often very patient.
Air Benders are gentle souls, respectful and adaptable, changeable. They're fast, both in their movements and in their thoughts.
Water Benders are typically calm and easy-going, flexible enough to adapt to their companions or situations. They're often quite easy to talk to and rather content with their lives.
Fire Benders are often prideful and confident individuals who are loyal, determined and ambitious. They can be very playful and fun but they often also have very short fuses on their tempers, which can be very volatile and explosive.
Keeping that in mind, this is what I figure the characters would be for Benders.

After a rather long time I finally managed to get a full piece of all of my main OCs done. They’re all part of the same big story Ive been working on, and still am, for like years and I am really happy to actually have all of them together like this.
There are also some side-characters I drew like this as well, but I though 8 drawings in one post is probably enough XD I’ll post more of em sometimes, they are my babies and I love em very dearly

HAYASHI KENJI ( kentaro sakaguchi ) is looking for their MAHOUTOKORO FRIENDS who resembles HENRY GOLDING, JUSTIN H. MIN, ALEX LANDI, PARK CHANYEOL, ROSS BUTLER, REMY HII, LEE JONG SUK, BEN LEVIN, GEMMA CHAN, CONSTANCE WU, PHILIPPA SOO, MING XI, ADRIANNE HO, SHAY MITCHELL, UTP and should be 28-35. applicants do not have to contact MAEVE to talk over the details before applying.   (   i’m using the mahoutokoro fandom page as a source for all things mahoutokoro. i have several visions for how these connections could go - it’s open to multiple people. the first and most simple being they were friends during their time at school and they stayed friends or perhaps they drifted apart over the years and now they’ve had a chance to reconnect. or maybe, they weren’t that close at school but now that they’re both in the u.k. they’ve become friends. really i’m not picky !! i just like the idea of having some connections from his past !! and who knows, maybe there’s potential for some previous romantic connections ~    )
HAYASHI KENJI ( kentaro sakaguchi ) is looking for their OLLIVANDER RELATIVES who resembles HIRAI MOMO, ISHIHARA SATOMI, NAOMI WATANABE, NOMURA SHUHEI, SAYO YOSHIDA, SONOYA MIZUNO, CONAN GRAY, HAMABE MINAMI, JESSICA LU, JOLENE PURDY, KIMIKO GLENN, KUTSUNA SHIORI, LUKE ISHIKAWA, MACHIDA KEITA, MASAKI OKADA, MINATOZAKI SANA, MURASE SAE, MYOUI MINA, NAKAMOTO YUTA, NANA KOMATSU, RINA SAWAYAMA, SEN MITSUJI, SHOTA MATSUDA, UCHIDA RIO, WATANABE KEISUKE, RYAN POTTER, REINA HARDESTY, KAYLEE BRYANT, ASAMI ZDRENKA, UTP (SHOULD BE AT LEAST ¼ JAPANESE) and should be ANY AGE. applicants do not have to contact MAEVE to talk over the details before applying.   (   we all know the ollivanders, so i’m not going to weigh you down with tons of detail. i just think it would be fun to see more of them around! you could even bring garrick himself! my character kenji is related through their mother who is a great niece of garrick, though he was raised in japan.  )
HAYASHI KENJI ( kentaro sakaguchi ) is looking for their HAYASHI RELATIVES who resemble HIRAI MOMO, ISHIHARA SATOMI, NAOMI WATANABE, NOMURA SHUHEI, SAYO YOSHIDA, SONOYA MIZUNO, CONAN GRAY, HAMABE MINAMI, JESSICA LU, JOLENE PURDY, KIMIKO GLENN, KUTSUNA SHIORI, LUKE ISHIKAWA, MACHIDA KEITA, MASAKI OKADA, MINATOZAKI SANA, MURASE SAE, MYOUI MINA, NAKAMOTO YUTA, NANA KOMATSU, RINA SAWAYAMA, SEN MITSUJI, SHOTA MATSUDA, UCHIDA RIO, WATANABE KEISUKE, RYAN POTTER, REINA HARDESTY, KAYLEE BRYANT, ASAMI ZDRENKA, UTP  (SHOULD BE AT LEAST ¼ JAPANESE) and should be ANY AGE. applicants do not have to contact MAEVE to talk over the details before applying.   (  due to the lack of any really concrete information about the japanese wizarding community, i’ve taken some creative liberties. members of the hayashi family have been making wands for as long as anyone can remember, basically making them the japanese equivalent of the ollivander family. they mainly sell wands to mahotokoro students, but they’ve never turned away a wizard seeking one of their wands. over the years, they have opened multiple locations throughout japan, each run by a member of the hayashi family. it also goes without saying, that any child born into the family is expected to go into the family business though i’m sure more than a few have gone down different paths!  as for relations to kenji, they can be as close as first cousins, aunts and uncles or distantly related!  )
HAYASHI KENJI ( kentaro sakaguchi ) is looking for their SIBLING who resembles LYRICA OKANA, HIRAI MOMO, MAESKI OKADA, MINATOZAKI SANA, MYOURI MINA, NAKAMOTO YUTA, NANA KOMATSU, YAMAZAKI KENTO, TAKADA KENTA, TERADA TAKUYA, MATSUI JURINA, MURASE SAE, NANA KOMATSU, UTP (ANYONE FULLY JAPANESE) and should be UNDER 30. applicants do have to contact MAEVE to talk over the details before applying.   ( the hayashi siblings are related to two of the world’s most well known wand making families the ollivanders of england and the hayashis of japan.  their mother being the great-niece of garrick. at some point they met, fell in love and eventually opened up a store out of the family home in sendai, miyagi prefecture, japan.  it went without saying that they were expected to become wand makers when they got older, something that kenji openly embraced. whether the sibling chose to follow on the path their parents laid out or took a different approach is up to you. i am somewhat attached to the idea of the siblings being close regardless of any differences that they may have, but i wouldn’t say no to a falling out, etc. after all kenji is not great with communication ! their parents will be NPCs for now as i don’t see any reason for them to have left japan. it wouldn’t hurt to check out my wcs for their hayashi and ollivander relatives  )

Welcome to Korishi Sector: PROLOGUE Pt. 3
Tumblr media
The ship pulls up to the single dock on the island, where the onboard crew quickly work to secure it to the cleats and lower the ramp. With a surprising amount of speed, everyone is offloaded from the ship with their luggage and led to the main gate entrance just past the dock.
Looking on either side of you, you can see a lush golden beach extending to either side, up until large concrete walls cut the beach off and indicate the beginnings of the developed parts of the island.
Turning your head towards the inner island, you can see into the complex through the decorative gate-- fresh gray concrete, brutalist architecture, and converging pockets of greenery fill your vision. Raised towers and buildings are just visible over the tall outer wall, and as you step through the gate you find yourself standing in a large, open area with a clear view of the sky overhead. Some space in front of you, there is a large section where the floor is lowered, with sets of stairs leading to a large and well-equipped recreational courtyard. You spot a couple of closed-in buildings just on the other side of it, seeming to be for maintenance or utility. A look to either side of you reveals large concrete buildings, one labeled as the cafeteria and one marked as a convenience store or ‘commissary.’ These larger buildings are marked by pockets of greenery hanging from windows and corners, as if they had always been a part of them.
Just in front of the gate, you spot a large tower with an attached, plain-looking elevator. The tower itself looks something like a lighthouse, with a large room set atop it and thick windows surrounding it on all sides.
Each of you is then handed a marked key, labeled A-Q, and shown to your rooms. Some of the rooms required a brief hike up some concrete stairs, while others remain on the ground floor. In any case, each room still has the pleasure of facing the main gate, so no matter where you rest, you will always open your door to see a bit of ocean and greenery.
The room assignments are as follows:
A: Adrian De Fiore
B: Amami Nisha
C: Ash Marlowe
D: Chizuru Madaraki
E: Desmond Altair Brandt
F: Iyasa
G: Kimiko Kanamori
H: Laurence Edwards
I: Masami ‘☆MASA☆’ Kurokawa
J: Michael Anshinbu
K: Miyu Inaba
L: Mutsumi Morishibe
M: Nana Matsubara
N: Rurira Tsuru
O: Sumiko ‘SU_1047′ Kusumoto
P: Tsutomu Hayashi
Q: Yoyoko Fukako
With key in hand, and following a brief tour, you are given some time to unpack and settle in. With smiles on their faces, Dororou and Monomi address the class before they are left to their own devices.
After going over some standard rules and stuff, such as not sharing dorm rooms, proper school trip behavior, evacuation protocol, and other such necessities, Dororou suddenly bolted up in realization, “Oh! Also! You probably saw a couple puddles here. Yeah, we had a storm pass through last night and the power to the Recreation Area went out. Some of our guys are going to fix it, so it should be up and running in the next day or so, from what they tell me. Try not to get too amped up by it, Nyuff, Nyuff, Nyuff.”
Monomi jumped in and added, “Dowowo and me, and the secuwity guys wiww be staying own the ship, so if uwu need us, we wiww be own the beach ow in the boat. Wemembew awnd down't evew wevew fowget: have fun, we wove uwu!”

The genius poet and con man
Ishikawa Takuboku (CV: Asanuma Shintaro)
A genius poet. Attended the same middle school as Kindaichi Kyosuke. Somewhat loose with money and women, but his good looks make him hard to hate.
[Comment from Ishikawa Takuboku voice actor Asanuma Shintaro]
It isn't often you get the opportunity to play the role of a famous historical figure from your hometown, no matter how many years you've been in the business. I’m truly grateful for this blessing, and I intend to have as much fun as I can with it. "The words I failed to say so long ago still remain within my heart..."
The partner who supported Ishikawa Takuboku for all his life
Kindaichi Kyosuke (CV: Sakurai Takahiro)
A part-time university lecturer. He loves Ishikawa Takuboku’s talent. Mild-mannered and easily pushed around by Takuboku.
[Comment from Kindaichi Kyosuke voice actor Sakurai Takahiro]
I’m Sakurai Takahiro, and I’ll be providing the voice of Kindaichi Kyosuke in Woodpecker Detective’s Office. This is a fun series packed with many elements, such as literature, mystery, human relationships, and entertainment. Please be sure to watch.
    The empathetic big brother type
Nomura Kodo (CV: Tsuda Kenjiro)
A student at Tokyo Imperial University. Was in the same middle school class as Kyosuke, making him Takuboku’s senpai. The empathetic type, good at looking after others. Like an older brother to the literary duo.
[Comment from Nomura Kodo voice actor Tsuda Kenjiro]
I’m having fun playing Nomura Kodo, one of the literary men who frequent the milk bar. I hope everyone will enjoy the historical setting and atmosphere shared among these literary men.
A young literary man striving to be a novelist
Hirai Taro (CV: Ono Kensho)
A young man of literature with insatiable curiosity. He’s deeply interested in the cases Takuboku handles. His eagle eye gives him powers of deduction that put adults to shame. Later known as Edogawa Ranpo.
[Comment from Hirai Taro voice actor Ono Kensho]
I’m Ono Kensho, and I play the role of Hirai Taro. Hirai Taro is someone who likes to butt in on interesting cases, and he later becomes known as Edogawa Ranpo. I’ll do my best to express his sharp wit and behavior in a way that will give viewers a glimpse of him!
The poet and count of many loves
Yoshii Isamu (CV: Saito Soma)
Well-bred and a bit pretentious. Sees Ishikawa Takuboku as a rival. Later became famous for writing the lyrics to the popular song Gondola no Uta.
[Comment from Yoshii Isamu voice actor Saito Soma]
I love both literature and mysteries, so I’m thrilled to have a part in this project! Aside from the mystery-solving at its core, it’s packed with depictions of the daily lives and humor of some very unique young men of literature! I really hope you’ll all enjoy it!
A shy, pure poet who can’t speak well
Hagiwara Sakutaro (CV: Umehara Yuichiro)
Shy, reclusive, and sensitive by nature, but also deeply cares for his friends. Would later be known as the father of modern poetry.
[Comment from Hagiwara Sakutaro voice actor Umehara Yuichiro]
My character, Sakutaro, is a sentimental guy with a pure heart. I’ll do my best to make sure he isn’t buried by the unique personalities of the other characters. The series gives very satisfying depictions of the interactions between all these literary masters, so I hope everyone will watch it.
A poet who loves traveling, booze, and taking life at his own pace
Wakayama Bokusui (CV: Furukawa Makoto)
A Waseda University student who’s active as a poet. Loves to drink. A free-spirited man who likes to travel and takes life at his own pace. A boundlessly cheerful mood-maker.
[Comment from Wakayama Bokusui voice actor Furukawa Makoto]
Among the many poets featured in the series, Bokusui is depicted as a cheerful, big-hearted guy. I’ve enjoyed reading poems while feeling immersed in the historical setting of the series, so I hope everyone will have fun watching it. Be sure to check it out.
A proud, aloof high school prodigy
Akutagawa Ryunosuke (CV: Hayashi Yukiya)
A student at First High School. Cool and collected, with a brilliant mind. Often says things that make people’s hearts skip a beat. Deeply admires Natsume Soseki.
[Comment from Akutagawa Ryunosuke voice actor Hayashi Yukiya]
Woodpecker Detective’s Office will be my anime debut. I’ve been trying my hardest to keep up with the amazing, experienced voice actors and staff on this series. As for what kind of person my character, Akutagawa Ryunosuke, is... I hope you’ll all watch and find out!

Sunflowers for a Broken heart
A short girl hummed softly, holding a bouquet of sunflowers. She walked beside her friend, Noah. She had a small smile on her face. She holds Noah’s hand tightly. When they entered the graveyard, she continued to smile. She stood out of her place with her colors.
Noah stared at the girl with a soft smile, “Do what you got to do, Kimiko.” He let go of her hand. He ruffled her hair before walking off. His footsteps signaled that he had only stopped at the entrance.
Kimiko nodded her head, quickly rushing over to each grave. She left a sunflower on each of them. She hummed a soft tune to herself. Her smile becomes sadder in each second.
I never had that many friends growing up,
Kimiko stopped at one grave, her smile disappearing. The graveyard was a mix between humans and pokemons. She crouched down as she placed a sunflower on the grave. She let out a soft sigh, remembering something. She continued humming the same tune. This grave was the last one.
So I learned to be okay with just me, just me, just me, just me.
Kimiko ran to the entrance with an empty holder. She looked at Noah and tugged his sleeve. “Can we go home now...?” she asked quietly, her voice shaking. She was quick to grab onto his hand.
And I’ll be fine on the outside.
Noah let out a soft chuckle and responded, “Of course we can. Your mom and dad must be waiting.” He ruffled her hair with his free hand. He soon started walking further away from the graveyard. Kimiko followed him, staying close to his back. She didn’t want to lose him.
I like to eat at school by myself anyway.
As their silhouettes faded away, five figures approached the graveyard. There was a Decidueyes, Alolan Raichu, Gardevoir, Banette, and Absol surrounding one grave. They seem to surround the last one. They laid close to the grave. They were waiting for someone to return. Only silence filled the area. They soon fell asleep while waiting.
So I’ll just stay right here, right here, right here, right here
The old champion was a young girl. She stopped being the champion at the age of 34 years old. She had lived a life of care with her caring for pokemons and the elderly. She grew old and had met her time. She had released her pokemons before her death. The champion’s name was Kimiko Hayashi.
And I’ll be fine on the outside.

No Driver’s License: Session 16
[adventure log- read from the beginning]
[session 15]
[session 15 omakes]
Last time on No Driver’s License, Sakura witched out, which led to them being kicked out of Reiko’s bunker. Just them, though, not the civilians- technically, Reiko hadn’t allowed them down there in the first place, so really they got off easy.
Unfortunately, though, there’s one more potential loved-one-the-villains-can-kidnap out there- Sakura’s friend Kazuya has a sister in the hospital, Hayashi Kazumi. Yukari sent them an ultimatum wrt/hostage taking and the fate of Yamauchi Yoshe, but who knows if they’ll take it seriously?
In the meantime, there’s nothing left to do but try and recover that one last potential hostage. This session, they (minus Ibara, because Farn had work problems) head to the hospital to pick up Kazumi.
Things don’t go as planned.
Tumblr media
(Pictured: things not going as planned)
The first thing they do is text Kazumi and ask if she’s all right. According to her- and they verify it’s her, by asking her details about the stories she heard from Kazuya about Magical Sakura- everything’s fine. She’s kind of confused by the “take her to safety” thing, though.
After, like, twenty minutes of the girls deciding what to wear for this mission, because that’s extremely important, they head to the hospital. I tell them that everything seems normal, and that they can just head upstairs and see her because it’s visiting hours. Why not just go straight up?
Well, the answer is...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their first plan is to just have Yukari teleport in, grab Kazumi, and get out. Yukari decides to use her Prophecy ability to get a warning from the GM about how well that’s likely to go.
Tumblr media
So something’s up. The team is suspicious, and I try to set their worries at ease.
Tumblr media
Sakura immediately uses Sense Magic on the butterflies.
...And it turns out...
Tumblr media
Which I was hoping would be a reveal, in a little bit, because why would they suspect the butterflies, but somehow this lucky stroke of paranoia paid off. There’s magical construct butterflies flitting about! Weird!
Spurred into action, the players decide to take the front door and just head up there. Except... Makoto, who has the ability to talk to animals, notices that butterflies are, technically, a kind of animal, and uses her power.
Tumblr media
Makoto asks if someone sent them.
Tumblr media
The butterflies don’t seem hostile, so the players continue into the hospital, taking the elevator up to Kazumi’s floor. A bunch of them follow Makoto inside, swarming around her. What’s the deal with these things?
The butterfly mystery is temporarily put on hold when they reach Kazumi’s room, and head inside. There, they find...
Tumblr media
The team’s instantly in battle mode, because that went so well last time. Kimiko insists that she’s not here to fight, and that this isn’t a hostage situation. She just came to visit her friend, Kazumi, in the hospital! Kazumi backs her up, confirming that Kimiko is her friend and isn’t there to hurt her.
Kimiko apparently saw the email about Yoshe that Yukari sent to Emiko- but this, she insists, is to protect Kazumi. From?
Tumblr media
Kazumi knows. And Kazumi’s taking Kimiko’s side anyway. Sakura does not take this well, taffying her as well as Kimiko. And... Sakura’s new upgrade to her taffy power adds damage, and not an amount to sneeze at. If someone tries and fails to escape, they take... 4 damage. Which is, coincidentally, enough Harm to kill a mortal in one hit. She barely gets a hold of herself in time to dispel it from Kazumi, and leave the room to calm down.
Kimiko then tries to get the players to back off, and not try to take another hostage. She says she doesn’t want Kazumi getting hurt.
Tumblr media
As they’re talking, they notice an increase in the number of butterflies in the room, winking into existence one by one.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Sakura’s outside the room, stewing on how unfair this situation is.
Tumblr media
As more butterflies pop in, they feel the need to resolve this quickly, before whoever’s summoning these butterflies shows up and makes trouble. Kimiko agrees to let Seina use her healing magic to try and heal Kazumi’s chronic illness, at least- not agreeing to let them take her, but she can’t object to the heal.
Seina rolls and gets a critical heal, and- while Kazumi is cured, her hair’s turned green for some reason.
Tumblr media
As the party gears up to try to take Kazumi away, Kimiko gets serious and uses her absurd 9 Fury stat to successfully break free of Sakura’s taffy bindings.
Tumblr media
She knocks frantically on the window and pleads telepathically to be let inside. After some confusion and debate, Makoto eventually takes charge and opens the window, to which the girl responds with a stare of disbelief before entering.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Makoto tries to console her, and asks her name.
Tumblr media
Let’s quickly review Tsutsui Makoto’s backstory: she was born into a cult of some kind, and raised and worshipped as the mortal avatar of their goddess, Ikebana-no-Uzume. As messed up as that was, it only got worse when she failed to manifest the goddess’s supernatural powers as she aged, and the elders decided she was a fraud. She was imprisoned for the crime of deceiving the goddess’s people, chained up in a cell. That’s when we meet her- chained up, when Tama-chan arrived to contract her.
And that’s when she made her wish- to completely destroy this place, end the cult that had abused her like this. Tama-chan was hesitant to grant the wish, since it involved killing hundreds of people, but Nishi-chan swooped in and took the choice out of Tama-chan’s hands. The whole place collapsed, and everyone there besides Makoto died.
Doesn’t that sound like the sort of thing no self-respecting GM could let happen and then not have it bite the player in the ass later?
Because... well, it wasn’t a completely self-sufficient cultist compound. Someone had to get groceries, and that person just happened to be out at the time. Imagine her reaction when she got back, to find all her friends and family dead!
That someone is now on the floor of the hospital room, begging her goddess for forgiveness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Makoto tries to tell the truth- that the elders imprisoned her, beat her, abused her, and she needed to break free. Cho, though, can’t believe that the elders would do that- they’d claimed that the goddess was just “resting in contemplation of her purpose”. Most of the cultists hadn’t known about what happened in that cell. Cho is horrified by Makoto’s account, and her faith in the late cult elders is shaken.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Makoto really doesn’t want to have this conversation- especially not in front of Kimiko. Speaking of which... Kazumi edges towards the door, planning on escape.
Tumblr media
Kazumi’s cornered, here, and she doesn’t like telling the truth- but she does. She’s always felt that Sakura was Kazuya’s friend, not hers- who would really want to be her friend?
Tumblr media
They try to pursue, but Kazumi’s off like a bullet, and there’s a bystander nurse between her and the party, now. Kimiko teleports, apparently giving chase.
The party, at this point, is less than inclined to try and take Kazumi to safety against her will. They let her go- and let Fumi-chan, who by the way has been hanging around here, facilitating telepathy, take care of the nurse’s memories. The team goes out the window.
(Cho attempts to help them get down safely by forming magic carpets of butterflies. They fail to hold their first passenger’s weight, and Yukari faceplants into the ground. She’s fine, because magical girls don’t take fall damage, but Cho’s extremely apologetic about her failure.)
They all make it out of the hospital- and now they don’t have any choice but to deal with Cho.
Oh, and Cho’s started staring at Seina, whose flower-themed outfit is uncannily reminiscent of Ikebana-no-Uzume. Hmmmmmmm...
Cho eventually repeats her question- what did the rest of the cultists do, to deserve Makoto’s wrath?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cho thinks that this is a test- that she’s being asked to guess why her family was secretly sinful all along, why all her friends were worthy of destruction. She starts throwing out guesses, in between tears.
Tumblr media
Makoto tries to explain that she’s fallible, that she really did make a mistake- and in fact, she explains that it was the elders’ fault for provoking her and lying to everyone. She explains, in detail, the judgment the elders pronounced about her- that she was a fraud, a liar, an agent of darkness sent to deceive.
Tumblr media
Cho’s wish was to meet the goddess, so that she could ask why she’d passed her judgment. And her magic- her butterflies- supposedly led her straight to the goddess, infallibly. But... if Makoto was a deceiver, then... well, her goddess had to be there. And if not Makoto, then...?
Makoto picks up on this train of thought, and tries to... work with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cho doesn’t take this at face value, though. She starts testing Seina, by asking her important religious questions. Makoto telepathically coaches her on the answers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cho stays on the offensive- questioning who’s still alive, who was responsible for raising Seina and teaching her what she needed to know. Since there are no surviving cultists they can introduce Cho to, they have to bullshit some excuses.
Then... Makoto asks who contracted Cho.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Makoto calls her out on her lie, and she admits that it was Tama-chan, not Nishi-chan.
Tumblr media
They continue trying to console her, but Cho is, contrary to her claims, more suspicious than ever. They ask about her living situation, and she says she has somewhere to stay- and oh would you look at the time, she has to be getting back now, bye!!! Makoto offers to discuss things more later.
Tumblr media
Cho accepts the phone and flees.
...And then Makoto lets out her breath and collapses into the fetal position, shaking. That whole experience was way harder than she was letting on. She was used to putting on the act, since that was her whole childhood, but she was supposed to be done with that. Free!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yukari notices Makoto’s gem- pulsing with darkness, on the brink of witching out. She gets out the team’s one remaining old-style Grief Seed, and tries to get Makoto to take it. Makoto, who’s feeling overwhelmed by guilt, feeling like a burden, refuses it. Yukari tries to apply the Grief Seed by force, but... she botches her roll.
Tumblr media
Next time: Makoto’s second witch!

HEY RITA!!! AN INTERVIEW OF SAYO YAMAMOTO IS OUT!! PLEASE CHECK IT OUT IN FULL AND TELL US YOUR THOUHTS OR IF THERE'S ANYTHING DIFFERENT!!
I love your enthusiasm so much! :D Ok, this is long overdue, let’s get to it!
So this first part (x) was actually the first time I read a post-finale interview and didn’t feel sad, angry or frustrated. I would love more of this, please. Sayo is just way more professional than Kubo. She also didn’t mention any of that “Yuuri was going to lose from the start” stuff which pleases me, I would hate to have Sayo lie to me.
It’s nice to finally have Sayo herself talking about YOI though, you can really tell it’s her passion project.
I can think about the outline of a story by myself, but I wanted to create it with someone who would be able to add punchy and impressive dialogues that would actually make the characters come alive.
(...)
I first came up with an outline of the full series, and talking with Kubo-san about that we decided the details and she drew the manga storyboard for episodes 1-5. (...) Then we discussed the story more in detail and decided the elements and scenes we absolutely wanted to insert and the position of lines. Even so, when I translated this into the anime storyboard it was still too long, and editing required an exorbitant amount of time.
Confirmation that Sayo was heavily involved in the writing of the series and that Kubo was hired mainly for dialogue. I find the “making characters come alive” part interesting though, considering Kubo has admitted more than once that she doesn’t really understand the characters all that much. But really, what’s important here is that Sayo did as much of the writing as Kubo, if not more. And she did storyboard work as well. Good to have confirmation on that. That’s Sayo’s specialty, I always thought it weird that she wouldn’t do it for her dream project.
The voice actors always performed even better than we expected, so it happened that we changed the animation based on the acting. They were all subtle things, but that’s actually difficult. Anyone can easily be affected by a powerful line, so when a character says it you already get an impression of them, but a fine performance is what makes the difference and makes you feel that the character is really there, not just “a character inside an anime”.
This is really no unusual in animated productions (see how Disney animators incorporate voice actor’s mannerisms into the characters, for example). I find the emphasis on how she wanted YOI to feel “real” vey interesting.
What made me realize that this anime would become something amazing is Victor’s skating scene in episode 1. When we were editing this part, I was convinced that this would become an animation work no one has seen before.
Same Sayo, same. Stammi Vicino in episode 1 was the moment this series stole my heart and I was sure it would be amazing.
—The fireworks scene in the ED is also impressive.
That was Hayashi-san’s idea. The three of them weren’t actually together in Hasetsu in summer, so that scene is not something that happened at a certain time, it’s more like an imaginary world.
I kinda appreciate the confirmation that the fireworks scene never happened because...I kept waiting for the point in the series where the trio would reach a relationship level that would make it believable for the fireworks scene to happen but I never got it. Imaginary world where Yurio got character development and skating family is actually a thing outside of fanon :’)
—Could you tell us about the reading play that is going to be performed at the April 29 event?
Kubo-san and I conceived the basic ideas, and I was able to order the script from Kimiko Ueno-san, who among the people I know is the one who can write the craziest stories. I worked with Ueno-san in “Space Dandy” (2014) and I heard that she enjoyed “Yuri on Ice” until the end. I think it will be pretty crazy (LOL).
I’m so anxious over this whole event, it’s bad for my heart.
—What about the future of the anime?
I’m being told “let’s continue as soon as possible” (LOL). I’ve already decided what to do next. I came up with it while doing the video editing for episode 10, but what I’m thinking is something grand, and I’m wondering, what will happen if I really do all of that…? At this moment, my intention is to continue “Yuri on Ice” as long as I can.
Look, a season 2 was obvious since the finale. I don’t believe for one second that they aren’t actively working on it right now. They probably have been for a while.
Though really, coming up with a sequel around the time of editing episode 10 just gives more weight to my fav conspiracy theory of the finale being changed to accommodate a season 2.
Something grand better mean olympic champion Yuuri and on-screen Victuuri wedding.
It’s possible that the relationships between the characters too might look different in some instances. Therefore, if you are unsure about buying the volumes, I would recommend that you do.
This is so intriguing and ideally, IDEALLY, it’s talking about fixing the mess that was Victuuri in episode 12 but let’s be real. At this point, it’s probably Yurio related T-T
Now for this part (x)
....I’m concerned.
—Please let us know more in detail about how it was created.
First of all, before drawing the storyboard for Yurio’s EX, I thought about how it was created. It’s a story I came up with thinking about Yurio’s feelings when he was going to skate the EX after winning the GPF.
Oh Sayo why do you have to go and lie to me after I said I was glad you didn’t? Ok listen. Welcome to the Madness doesn’t make sense in a universe where Yurio won the GPF. It just doesn’t. So this whole thing about coming up with the concept for it based on Yurio winning the GPF...is pretty much bullshit, sorry.
And he comes up with the idea of creating a new program the night before the EX.—Is it possible, in real life, to create a program for the EX the day before?
You might think it’s not, but actually it has happened. The athlete Misha Ge from Uzbekistan has done that before. (...) I saw and heard about it, so I know it’s rather normal.
I’m...gonna stop your right there Sayo. Don’t, please. Just don’t. I’m just going to link @vctryr‘s post here (x)
How do you keep pushing for realism and then add this? Everything about this ordeal in unbelievable.
Also...so Yurio can choreograph now. In a matter of hours too. I thought he couldn’t get more Victor 2.0 but here we are. Yurio is perfect, he has peaked.
—Who is the other key person beside Yurio?
I thought that even though we created a “DJ” setting for Otabek we couldn’t really show it in the anime…
This whole DJ thing with Otabek is weird. I’m not opposed to it, but it’s very clearly a recent addition to his character I think. All secondary characters have extra bits to them that we don’t get to see in the anime. Like how JJ does a lot of charity work, or how Emil loves to do extreme sports in the off-season, or how Seung-Gil has no fashion sense. Except all of these things have been part of their official character profiles form the start. DJ Otabek came out of nowhere. This, combined with how Sayo says he uses the SNS a lot, even though one of the first things we learned about Otabek was that he hated SNS, leads me to believe that he got some recent changes done to his character. Probably a result of his popularity.
Yurio has become friends with Otabek, so of course he thinks he would take him with him. However, since he’s still 15 and cannot enter clubs, Otabek turns him down. Yurio tails him to a place where he sees him coolly doing the DJ, and thinks “I could have him choose my song”…
Bless Otabek for being super aware of Yurio’s age and being responsible. Yurio though...
—So basically, in the GPF Victor joins Yuuri Katsuki’s EX and Otabek joins Yuri Plisetsky’s!?
Otabek doesn’t skate with him. I believe the way he appears is something no one would have imagined.
So is he gonna DJ on the ice or...Thank god he doesn’t skate with him though!
Some subtle parts have been fixed too, therefore it’s possible that the relationships between the characters might look different in some instances. There was a small change in the scene before Yurio goes to perform his FS, I’d like you to pay attention to that.
YEP IT’S ALL ABOUT YURIO. This is probably about the Victor scene, since so many people saw it as manipulative.
I don’t know guys...I’m still just super conflicted. I’ll reserve judgement until the final DVD comes out but it’s still really upsetting for me that Yurio is getting all this love and attention while Yuuri and Victor get...narrative and character derailment. Also half a poorly animated duet with credits on top.
Why Sayo? Why don’t you love them anymore?
*sigh*
