So, brando sando decided to go for a more modern feeling of language throughout wat (not just "therapy*" and "slut**", there was also some looser phrasing throughout the book that I was picking up on!)

It happened to be an aesthetic choice I liked and some of you didn't, but... yaknow... the more formal, fantasy-height English in the previous books was also an active aesthetic choice. In his earlier Cosmere, I do feel to some extent that the characters are minorly stilted due to this formalized English. You know how fanworks often have characters using tons of filler words, trailing off their sentences, generally sounding like spoken English? Fantasy-height English doesn't really do that.

Mostly, this post is a buildup to WHAT ARE THE SWEAR WORDS IN ALETHI, BRANDON SANDERSON??? None of the characters say "fuck". "Shit" is used to describe poop, but not as a swear. "Drynets" is some curse that sailors use that Shallan misunderstands, but what does it mean?!??? I'm guessing if a character is having a Bad Fucking Time they're gonna pull out something bigger than "storms", right???? Right?????????????

*therapy isn't really used in the book as part of normal language. Hoid introduces it to Kaladin, who echoes it despite clearly not understanding wtf it means and then immediately moves on.

**slut is first used in a much earlier book as Wit plays on "insults" with "in-sluts" as one of his roasts.

This is a crossover between my two favorite archives!! The Magnus and stormlight archives respectively. Do we think Jonathan simms could actually become a knight radiant? Debatable. What’s not debatable is the fact that he would 100000% be a truthwatcher. I’ll die on this hill.

This piece took me like a full week to finish. I was thinking about making this a series (with Daisy as a dust bringer) but I if I use the Gaussian blur tool ever again I will involuntarily and immediately throw my stylus across the room. It’s also my first attempt at drawing armor. I have this vision of designing cool shardplate for various characters but wow armors complicated. I kinda started making this suit up as I went

Fun fact about the double eye, it is not in fact an eye with two pupils like I drew. I drew that before actually looking it up, it’s actually this thing:

Which while super cool showing the different radiant orders and their surge connections, does not look anything like an eye. The truthwatcher and bondsmith glyphs are supposed to be the double pupil. Anyways I included two of these, below the recorder and lighters.

I’m super happy with this piece and I hope y’all like it too!!

Top 10 Stormlight Archive Trans Headcanons:

1. transfem elhokar. ever since i first saw this one i knew it must be true. if elhokar had bonded design her first truth would be im a woman and then from there she would work on all the bigotry

2. transmasc lift. if this was a different series it would be canon. to me that weird little girl is very much actually a weird little boy

3. transmasc hoid. i love this one because despite no like textual reason its just fun

4. transfem kaladin. thank you self soulcasting. and also many other transfem kaladin fics. i love this one because kaladin is the quintessential “transition would absolutely not fix them but it would create unique new issues” character ever

5. transmasc or transfem jasnah. she could go either way and i like both interpretations. is she performing femininity hard because she’s scared of being caught not performing it enough? yes. you see my point

6. transmasc sadeas specifically transmed trans guy sadeas is basically canon to me. thank you wasp cup. because if sadeas was trans he would be an insecure asshole about it. but it also makes sense when you think about his whole i want a shardblade bad thing that he has going on

7. transfem leshwi. i love when people explore the relationship she would have with her different physical bodies as one of the Fused. i love when they infuse some transfemininity into leshwi

8. nonbinary eshonai. feel like i have seen this in a fic before but if i haven’t it’s a brilliant idea anyway. how would the world be different if eshonai got to meet the sibling

9. this is a space for general spren gender-isms. from design in yumi making herself a human woman body to syl’s antics in WaT to the Sibling being canonically nonbinary i just think spren conception of gender is fun and trans in a different, not exactly human way. as it SHOULD be because spren aren’t humans

10. you. the reader. congrats you’re trans now say your radiant oaths and get that spren hrt

Ooh I saw another post of someone's total list of Stormlight Archive trans headcanons so here's mine!

Trans woman Shallan. Shallan often struggles with trying to perform herself because she feels like she can't just be herself. Also, my friend who's like Shallan is trans.

Agender Kaladin. Kaladin has a certain apathy to gender roles in Vorin society that not many characters who aren't ardents share. (And I suspect that many trans Vorin Rosharans end up in ardentia, anyway.) Yes, Kaladin occasionally upholds these gender roles, but it often feels like a learned behavior that they will immediately fold on upon challenge. (See: Lyn.)

Nonbinary Adolin. While Adolin seems to enjoy aspects of his own masculinity, they're also willing and eager to explore pushing gender roles as soon as he realizes the option exists.

Genderfucked Leshwi. This one is pretty much canon; many malen Fused take femalen singer bodies and vice versa. I don't think I could apply a transfem or transmasc label to Leshwi, who's been through so many centuries and bodies that the idea of being trans in just one direction seems reductive, but she definitely has Something Going On.

Transfem Raboniel. On the other hand, Raboniel clearly had a single shift in identity from the Lady of Pains to the Lady of Wishes. I like the idea that she could be taking on a constructive rather than destructive identity to go along with a more whole sense of self.

And Cosmere:

Transfem Nikaro (Painter). This is mostly because it would be funny. I love Nikaro.

??Design??. Despite being a Cryptic, she decides she wants to perform extreme humanlike femininity. I'm not sure what gender this is but it's one of them. Go off, girl.

Nonbinary Elegy. No longer quite same woman she was.

Transmasc Vin. As much as Vin seems to occasionally enjoy dresses and balls, this always seems to be more connected to the idea of relaxing and getting to be frivolous than to Luthadel noble femininity. Even in the dresses, Vin prefers less skirts, less hair, less accessories. Vin would probably be even happier in a suit, provided it allowed enough movement.

I can and will accept more trans headcanons into my life, but for now I have run out of thoughts.

It’s rare that I make cosmere fan art with any type of analogue medium, but it‘s been a refreshing change of pace between commissions.

Step 1: sketch on tracing paper

Step 2: applied oxidised silver leaf on paper, then carved the sketch on top of it with the tracing paper from the first step

Step 3: applied more details by adding another color of oxidized silver leaf as well as burnt copper and gold leaf

Step 4: line art with waterproof ink

Step 5: the part in which you finally paint

Step 6: last layer; this time it’s silver leaf for the wisps of stormlight.

No more steps! It’s done. 🤲

Finished book 3, and still think the only reason they aren’t a poly is that no one told Kaladin what a poly is.

Kaladin tried to kick his horse faster. She kept clopping along at her one speed, walking around the circle here that was a kind of running track for horses. “Spray might have been fast during her youth,” Adolin said, nodding at Kaladin’s mount, “but that was fifteen years ago. I’m surprised she’s still around, honestly, but she seems perfectly suited for training children. And bridgemen.”
