Thea - Break and Future

break: What would cause your OC to break down completely? What do they look like when that happens? Has anyone ever seen them at their lowest?

The collapse of House Bastien. Losing Della (either due to her dying or emotionally, if she were to go all in with Sylvestri + Rowan). Jules (her brother) being killed. Her mental state feels very precarious right now I won't lie, especially given the moral gymnastics she's been having to reckon with. I'm not sure what this version of Thea looks like fully broken in spirit but the old Thea? That was bad. Tino and Hamelin bore witness to some of that and I think it was very much a dead woman walking - very checked out with periods of lucidity and feralness - before she was able to rebuild herself.

future: What's the worst possible future for your OC? Are they taking steps to avoid that outcome? Are they even aware it's a possibility?

Aside from the one that appears to be rushing towards the coterie lol. but seriously, the machinations of the conspiracy to make the Lord the religious figurehead of the city, with the conspirators in the top seats of power given who these men are as people? that is the nightmare scenario and there is no telling just how far reaching the consequences of that would be. thea feels *excruciatingly* aware of this possibility and just close it might be to coming to pass and is trying her damnedest to stop it.

haii !! don't really have a pattern for this because i free handed + it was my first time trying to crochet a plushie (vv ambitious of me 😭)

general stuff that would hopefully help (?) with crocheting this for yourselves under the cut -

i forgot the hook size (prolly a 3.5 or 4.0 mm hook ?) but the red and sky blue yarn are 5 ply while the yellow yarn is 4 ply

the eyes were made out of black polymer clay; i made rectangles, poked holes into them that fit my needles, then baked them to harden so it's accurate with grian's more rectangular ish eyes in the design. if y'all try this, be careful to make the holes fit your needles with yarn + make the clay slabs slightly thicker so they won't break when you try stitching them on (mine broke the first time lmao -)

the entire thing only used UK single crochet stitches

i,,, don't know how to do a magic ring (is that what it's called when making these plushies?) so i did a circle with 6 chain stitches then 6 UK single stitches, then increase from there

closing both the head and body was a bunch of decreases, then i cut a longer piece of leftover thread to poke it into the parts so it's hidden

both the shape for the head and body were crocheted with crocheted pouches in mind? because both parts are circular, and pouches have a similar shape so i adjusted accrodingly by increasing & decreasing stitches based on grian's design (sorry for the REALLY pixelated pic i don't have editing apps readily accsessible rn 😭)

the feathers (?) on grian's bum + head are 3 to 4 chain stitches with 2 rows of UK single stitches

wasn't able to make the beak because,, i didn't know how to do it HDHDHD didn't bother making the legs too lmao -

ngl some of the shaping also came from me fluffing the plush a bit + stuffing

attaching the head to the body, once again, was VERY scuffed (my og post hides it 😭)

Thea - wound and secret

(From the not-so-nice OC questions)

wound: How does your OC handle being wounded? Are their wounds mostly physical? Mental? Emotional? What's the worst wound your OC has ever experienced?

*ugly sad laughter* So, the thing about someone nearly successfully killing you and going through a spiritual resurrection/rebirth of sorts following that event and the abusive relationship that proceeded it has left Thea with some...baggage. As a forged in the dark character, one of her XP triggers is addressing a challenge through recklessness and she is upsettingly willing to put her personal safety on the line.

Arguably she has dealt with worse wounds since the attempted murder (she is significantly stronger now - party tank is gonna tank) but that is still her most significant wound - especially given the psychological weight it carries. The scar around her neck and the one on her cheek are the markers of her old life and the one that was taken from her, and the person she might have been.

She's very much a 'walk it off until you can't' type, I picked up the triage move for her let lets her effectively reduce the severity of a wound until a job is over and then it has to be dealt with. Her body is something to be used (it's no real surprise that she has been a sex worker before moving into this more violent ine of work, as much as she doesn't relish in hurting other people) and her physicality is something that often catches people by surprise (short round woman in her mid-30s, will kick anyone and everyone's ass who tries their luck)

secret: What's one secret your OC never wants anyone to know about them?

This one is harder to answer - I'm not sure if she really has any secrets that aren't known by at least one person, much to her frustration. I'm definitely gonna think on this one some more though because it feels like she should lol.

the tradwife movement is the same as it has always been - back in the kitchen, back to breeding - it just has better branding.

when i was younger, i hated pink. i was not like other girls. this is now something i'm embarrassed of - this was not me being a "girl's girl."

but it was expressing something many of us felt at the time: i literally wasn't what girlhood was supposed to be. this is a hard thing to explain, but you know when you're not performing girlhood correctly. it isn't as easy as "i liked x when girls liked y" - because there were other girls that liked x, too - but i never figured out exactly the correct way to like x, or to be interested in y.

now there is the divine feminine. this is the same rhetoric it has always been: women are biologically driven to like pink and ribbons and submitting to our husbands.

the problem is that the patriarchy found a better PR team. because yes, actually, i want every woman to have the choice to be a homemaker. i also want her taken seriously for her legitimate home-making labor. i want her to be recognized as also having a job, just unpaid. i want men to have this opportunity, too.

but it is no longer "i made this choice and I love it." instead it is a sixteen-paragraph rant about how selfish it is that my generation isn't having kids. instead it's long videos about how if you feed your children processed foods, you're going to kill them. instead it is "this is what womanhood is supposed to be. i feel bad for any other choices you're making."

the shame spiral is just prettier. it is large houses devoid of personality. it is the implication: if you don't have this, you aren't happy. the solid, everlasting assurance: women are actually supposed to be submitting. this is the default. this is the natural state of things. all other attempts inflict suffering.

but you can no longer say i'm not like other girls. you can no longer reject this image completely. you cannot find it revolting, even if you know that the underbelly is toxic and festering. sure, it is the same repackaged patriarchy. but the internet does not have shades of grey. you should support and reward other women! your disgust is actually internalized misogyny. not because you are seeing a vision of yourself the way they're trying to train you to be. not because you feel her ghost pass within an inch of your earlobe. not because your father will eventually ask you - why can't you be like her?

because they figured out how to make it beautiful: women will sell other women on this idea, and we will find the singular loophole in feminism. sure, she's shaming you in most of her videos. sure, she implies that a different life is obscene. but she just wants you to be happy! you'd be happier if you were listening!

and the whole time you're sitting there thinking: i'd actually just be happier if i had that kind of money.
