man changing main xiv job classes after 9 years is actually giving me some insane identity crisis???
anyway don't read the rest of this. it's depressing. instead can you guys share your favorite xiv job as of Dawntrail and why you like it
losing my main job to the simplification is actually so frustrating. i really enjoyed the complexity and challenge of old smn, even if its job identity was kinda bad. don't get me wrong, the rework looks cool and everything ties together really well now. but i don't find it fun anymore. i don't find it engaging and i don't find it rewarding. maybe also because my identity used to be tied to being The smn in my friend groups (just coincidentally no one mained it) but it feels really weird rn.
and now i'm trying to look for something to fit the void. i've levelled drk/nin/vpr. and nin comes pretty close but i still have reservations i don't wanna get into.
i also need to let go and work through some stuff internally bc i can't bring myself to play healer anymore bc of so many negative experiences in other games (abuse+misogyny for playing healer and being perceived as an "easy" class despite it *not* being one, ever).
i always feel the need to prove myself to some hypothetical entity that i'm not playing easy classes because i don't want to be thought of as "less than".
i know that's sweaty behavior and i should just make peace with it and have fun with the game for real. it's not like i think any less of other people for playing certain roles or classes. but i can't seem to extend any patience or kindness to myself lmfao.
and now that i don't know what to really play, it's really messing with my head. obviously i don't really actually know melee very well and being forced to do positionals and being in melee range is still relatively new to me, but it's tanking my performance so hard. the insane standard i have set for myself is not being met
i put too much stock in my value being tied to my job utility and respectability even tho it doesn't fucking matter. it's really bumming me out.

Airy's a BRD because i actually really enjoy playing it. as a result, it's his main and canon job. i worked it into his lore so it makes sense, and he's never budging from it as his no.1 job unless BRD becomes boring.
Tsuki is VPR/RPR because i wanted her to be a melee, but wasn't enjoying DRG. she is still technically a DRG because she uses long arms, (scythes, halberds, spears, twin swords, etc.), but as of DT, she has swapped from RPR to VPR.

Why is your wol(oc)'s main job what it is?

Canon:
WHM - Anzu's first job, and what I kinda consider her main/canon job. She's an expert WHM, maybe only outdone by the Padjals themselves.
DRG - Anzu's second job, which she picked up because she wanted to learn to better defend herself. She became good enough at it to become the second Azure Dragoon and gain Estinien's respect, but she personally believes he's just as skilled as her, if not more.
AST - Anzu's specialty is healing, so she's a very good AST. This is what I consider her Warrior of Darkness job (it's like a nighttime healer!) so she used it though much of ShB. She and Urianger compare notes on proper AST technique.
SGE - Anzu picked up this job a little before Alphinaud did story-wise, so I like to think she helped him learn the ropes. It's not her best healing job since it's the most recent, but she's still very proficient.
SAM - Picked up partway through StB because she was inspired by Gosetsu. She's quite good, but DPS isn't really her specialty so there's still plenty of room for improvement.
BRD - Anzu's known the basics of how to use a bow since she was young, but didn't get serious about it until partway through her adventuring career. She's pretty okay at it and likes that it lets her fight while still supporting her comrades. After G'raha joins the Scions, he's delighted to see that they share proficiency in the bow now and they have some friendly archery competitions in the time between patches.
DNC - Anzu picked this up after EW because it seemed like a fun way to spend her downtime after saving the universe. She's always loved dancing, and finds it a fun challenge to incorporate it into a battle style. As with BRD, she likes being able to support her friends in battle. She's still kind of learning the ropes but enjoys herself nonetheless.
Nebulously/semi-canon:
SCH - I only played this for a few weeks and couldn't get into it. But I really enjoyed the story, so I might headcanon that Anzu also dabbled in SCH.
DRK - The story itself is fascinating and I can see it having an impact on Anzu's thought processes further down the line, but the actual job isn't one I can see her doing. I'm still undecided on this one.
PLD - The closest I can see to being a tank Anzu might actually play, but she's just not really a tank person? Love my PLD glam tho
RDM - I love this job but it's hard for it to feel canon for some reason. But I love X'rhun too much to say Anzu never met him, so idk
PCT - Enjoying it so far, but I'll see how I feel about it being canon as time goes on.
Not canon:
VPR - I picked this up entirely so Anzu could cosplay Lloyd Irving
BLU - LOL
SMN - Technically this ought to be about as canon as SCH, but I dropped it after lvl 80 because I got bored with it. IDK why but I have a hard time seeing Anzu as a spellcaster that's not a healer...
How many jobs has your wol canonically picked up and in the case of multiple jobs how proficient are they in them?
