◤‧₊˚🌈🐶˚₊‧⁺˖◢ dorothy finds herself momentarily and unintentionally distracted from her polite conversation with mr. ismay when she happens to walk by ——- anastasia, possessing the kind of beauty they write about in poems or in love sonnets. just the sight of her is enough to make the apples of her cheeks flush && give her that classic sensation of butterflies going absolutely wild in her tummy.
the farm girl is embarrassed to realize that bruce had said something to her but she has completely missed it. ❛❛ i’m so sorry, i got distracted by —- er that is to say i spaced out for a minute or two there. could you repeat the last few things you just said? oh do forgive me mr. ismay. ❜❜

aesthetic edit for dorothy’s titanic au.
dorothy is beside herself with excitement when a neighbor gifts her with a second class ticket for the rms titanic for her eighteenth birthday due to them not being able to go themselves. though her protective aunt is initially extremely hesitant to let her go on the voyage alone, she eventually gives in. the plan is for dorothy ( and toto ) to stay with a family friend in new york where the ship of dreams is scheduled to arrive. dorothy enjoys her time on the ship. her bunk mates are nice & interesting, the food is quite tasty, the ocean is beautiful of course, and she enjoys meeting and befriending people from all walks of life.
when the ship hits the ice berg at 11:40 pm just days after setting sail, dorothy and toto are snuggled up in bed sleeping soundly. soon she is hastily woken by her bunk mates who practically drag her still half asleep with Toto in her arms out of bed and up onto deck before she can comprehend what's happening. but soon the severity of the situation is apparent and though she is scared out of her mind she tries to help out as much as she can. however when toto is spooked by the commotion and runs away down below deck, Dorothy doesn’t hesitate to follow to rescue him but consequently misses one of too few life boats.
she and toto are among those that fall into icy waters but she is grateful to find a small piece of furniture for Toto to sit on and not be directly in the freezing water with her. just as the two friends are very close to leaving this world, they are rescued and are put on the rms carpathia with all the other survivors. both will make a full recovery. dorothy is haunted by the tragedy of course, often experiencing nightmares and grieving the loss of so much life.

◤‧₊˚🌈🐶˚₊‧⁺˖◢ dorothy approaches captain smith with a plain tin box with in her hands. ❛❛ pardon me? captain smith? i just wanted to apologize again for what my dog did this morning. it was terribly rude of him to steal your egg like that. so i filled this tin box with some of the treats me && my auntie em made just a day before this magnificent ship departed. please accept them as a token of my sincere apology on behalf of myself and Toto too. ❜❜
the young woman opens it to reveal a slice of banana nut bread, a chocolate brownie, a strawberry turnover, && an assortment of thumbprint cookies ranging in colors from yellow to dark red.❛❛ the cookies have homemade jam. the bright red ones are strawberry, the darker red is raspberry, and this yellow-orange sort of color is peach. my aunt’s peach jam in particular has won first place at the state fair two years in a row. so i put three of those in there for you. ❜❜ she explains.

◤‧₊˚🌈🐶˚₊‧⁺˖◢ ❛❛ oh i’m very glad to be her friend, && i hope the two of us may continue that friendship long after our voyage ends. ❜❜ dorothy says hopefully, grateful that the older gentleman is not cross with her for getting distracted. ❛❛ i’d love that so much mr. ismay, thank you. i’m actually traveling solo but i don’t think my aunt would mind me attending at all. —— is it much much more expensive than second class though? i’m just worried that my aunt and uncle will get a large bill later on so if it’s a lot of money i’ll make sure to eat something beforehand. ❜❜
❛❛ i’ve heard she’s a beautiful singer, i can’t wait to hear her. i quite enjoy the activity myself but i’m not a professional. are you musically inclined mr. ismay? ❜❜ she asks him.
◤‧₊🚢💸˚₊‧⁺˖◢ OBLIVIOUS THOUGH BRUCE may be regarding his OWN romantic prospects, the source of young Dorothy’s sudden distraction does not go undetected. Bruce’s lips tug upward into a small smile while AMUSEMENT dances in his gaze, and he waves his right hand in a gesture of simultaneous UNDERSTANDING and DISMISSAL.
❛❛ Not to worry, Miss Gale, not to worry at all. ❜❜ Bruce responds, bestowing his MERCY without hesitation upon the utterly infatuated young woman. ❛❛ I was merely observing that your friendship with Anastasia seems to have done her quite a bit of good — would you and your family perhaps be amenable to joining us for dinner this evening here in First Class? Anastasia is scheduled to sing with Mr. Hartley and his orchestra, and having you there would make her evening. ❜❜
