" hadley gave her friend a slight smile when she saw esme making her way into the bakery. it had been somewhat of a busy day and she was hard at work to make sure that she was getting the rest of her orders that she had to do quickly. luckily, with it being so busy the time had almost felt like it was going quicker than on the days when it was usually slower. " i have your order for you right here! hopefully, i got it right. i double checked it before packaging everything, but then again, you can never really be too sure. " she continued on. " we've been so busy today and i haven't even gotten the chance to catch a break yet. " she'd slide over the box of pasteries towards esme. " anyways! it's all yours. "

hadley was so into this conversation right now. it was fun and lighthearted and exactly what she need after an exhausting day at work from the bakery the day before. anytime she could take to just joke around was one she would jump onto. " oh you've got that right, friend. " she thought about it for a second as she glanced over at celeste. " now we're catfishing people? " she playfully joked before taking a sip of her drink once more. listen, they were here and the two deserved to have some fun while they were, right? " keeping up with this little charade, are we? okay, okay. " her eyes were now twinkling with some playful intent. " hmm.. you know what name is coming to me right now? luna, it's cute. and it reminds me of a pretty nightly sky for some reason! " she was very enthusiastic within her response. " now, give me mine! i'm very curious to know what you happen to be thinking of now. "

determination flashed across celeste's face, concocting the perfect stories for each of them already. "fuck yeah !" she raised her glass to the other, toasting and finishing the drink. "you know what would be really funny though ?" there was a pause for exaggeration, seeing as celeste lived for theatrics. "what if one of us ends up meeting someone actually decent and we can't do anything about it because we just catfished them in real life." sure, they could just come clean, but where was the fun in that ? she preferred committing to the bit, and wasn't exactly looking to take over a new identity any time soon. "let's start with names. you give me mine, and i'll give you yours ?"

alyssa was currently trying to make her way through the large crowds to get to someone that she had been meaning to speak to. but it was hard since there was so many people in the way. but she was making it through everyone. one by one. until she realized that she had bumped into somebody along the way. " oh, i'm sorry! i didn't see you there, clearly. " she took a step back for a moment. " i guess you could say that i really do have my clumsy moments. "

hadley had listened to the way that he had said that for a moment. taking a sip of her own drink while the two had continued to speak with each other. the two seemed to have been so much better off just being alone and not living together. that past situation wasn't that good for either one. so, it was nice to be able to talk civilly and not have to worry about arguing with each other. " i get that. i mean, at least you took your time. and you learned. that's always the most important thing, right? some of us just need that.. to grow. i get it and i don't fault you for that at all. it's nice to see that you're genuinely in a better place. " she gave julien a sympathetic smile. hadley raised her own glass into the air to cheers to him with that. " cheers to that, friend! i'm happy we're both here. that we're friends now. we're in this whole life thing together, you know? and thank you for that. that's really sweet! i'll be sure to keep it in mind. just one thing... don't ever move in again. " she would playfully joke with a nudge. was it too soon for that joke? oops.

 “ oh, ”  he breathes. it's not an 'oh' that's even remotely tired or disappointed. more so one that indicates a sense of clarity. julien takes another sip of his drink before speaking.  “  i don't blame you. if it's any consolation, i've learned a lot about myself. i know for one, i'm introverted. it was nice to see you after work. it was nice to be able to eat with someone else—coexist.  ”  pause.  “ but i think i had and still have things to work through. i kind of had to do it alone, you know?  ”  he raises his glass and adds,  “  but now that we're here, i'm happy you're my friend. and my home will always have a space for you. i'm learning so, so much.  ”

I've never had much trouble with sleep but lately I'm so exhausted that when I hit the bed I just toss and turn. I didn't know that was even possible. If you got any remedies, I'll take them. " the blonde questioned. a warm smile appearing on her features when she finally noticed the redhead throughout the huge crowds of people that were surrounding them at the party. it was always nice to be able to make a new friend. sometimes, it wasn't' always her strong suit. but she could tell that louis seemed to be quite kind. it wasn't always easy to have to deal with the pain of relationships. and when it came to alyssa, she could relate to him on that. the pain was horrible and sometimes so much more difficult when it came to the terms of having to figure out how to heal from something like that. it was evident to her that he was trying to work through his deep-seated pain. and she could admire that effort.

the blonde glanced over at louis with a warm and friendly smile appearing on her features. having some fun and doing things for yourself sometimes was the best thing. the fact that he was taking the initiative to enjoy the evening and engage in light-hearted conversation spoke volumes about his strength. " how about something fun and refreshing for right now? like maybe a berry spritz or some kind of a mocktail? " she asked with a shrug of her shoulders but the idea of either one sounded quite good to her. " what do you think? "

Louis smiled, feeling a warm sense of comfort in making new friends. It was a welcome change, especially after having to leave behind the people he once held dear in a town far from this one. The reason for his departure was still a sore spot in his heart—his boyfriend had married his cousin, Bella. The betrayal had left him more than just bitter; it had shaken him to his core. He knew deep down that he needed to move on, but the wounds were still fresh, and the bitterness lingered like a dark cloud over his thoughts.

He often told himself that the best way to get over someone was to get under someone new, and lately, his mind had been drifting back to the cute stranger who had accidentally hit him with a volleyball earlier. There was something about that playful encounter that made him think maybe, just maybe, he could start to let go of the past and find something new to hold onto.

But for now, his attention was on his new friend—a person who seemed eager to share a mocktail and some light-hearted conversation.
