it wasn’t unusual for her to be starting the new school year in a completely different state than she was a week ago. this time, her mother and her job had brought their small family to new york. it was safe to say that she was more than a little excited to be living the in big apple. “hi, i’m misty,” she introduces, adjusting her backpack strap before holding her hand out to the boy that was going to be showing her around. “nice to meet you.”

“yeah, good luck trying not to get your gross flour hands all over the place,” misty replied, her scoff sounding more like a laugh. it had seemed like they had been baking cookies for hours but when you needed to sell something for valentines day in support for the quiz bowl team, it needed to be down. “especially…” misty trailed off as her hand dipped into the bag of flour. “after this!” she exclaimed before a cloud of white dust erupted into the air.

“i guess you could say that. sure!” misty was scared shitless, she just had a weird knack for holding it together. scared was one of the few emotions she could actually hold in but something in her thigh was twitching like crazy and she just wanted to get back to the main road, really. “so what are we doing out here again?”

“h-hi michelle,” she quietly greets, loud enough so the other girl could hear her over the lunch room. “i don’t mean to bother you but uh...” god this was embarrassing. as the new girl, misty always liked to keep a quiet rep. the person who got out of everybody’s way and was just there to learn, really, but now-- “someone, i think it was ned, asked me if i’ve gone on a date since i’ve moved to the city and i kinda freaked out and said your name and i’m really sorry?”

the fire had begun to die out only a little bit ago but the night summer breeze was beginning to pick itself up and misty, clad in a pair of denim shorts and a tank top, was beginning to shiver. she quickly noticed the boy sitting next to her was in the same situation. as a good host, she opted to run into her house, grabbing a few blankets before running outside again and distributing them to everyone. “you look a little chilly,” misty stated with a smile, standing in front of him before leaning down to drape the blanket over greyson. “warm up!”
