Salad Bar Theory of Popular Culture
This is going to be a long post. It will discuss "The Salad Bar Theory of Popular Culture," and why Tumblr dot com is the ideal, overgrown petri dish on the web for this phenomenon.
It's a bit of lark, but I do hope you'll laugh at least once if you read to the end.
Imagine you're dining at an all-you-can-eat restaurant. The restaurant is massive. The self-serve food bar has every kind of dish imaginable, and what's more, there is a construction crew adding more space, and new chefs are constantly adding new entrees, remaking old favorites, and sometimes they even invent new cuisines altogether. All of your friends and acquaintances are there. Sometimes you eat together, sometimes you talk about what you ate, sometimes someone excitedly comes to your table raving and telling you to try something new or an old favorite. There is more than you could ever possibly eat in several lifetimes, and it only keeps growing.
Tumblr media
This metaphor is the current state of entertainment in the 21st century for all forms of media: music, movies, books, TV shows, ebooks, audiobooks, podcasts, talk radio, art, comics, graphic novels, manga, webcomics, cartoons, anime, newspapers, infotainment, online journalism, live-streaming, plays/dramas, console gaming, PC gaming, smartphone gaming and more. Thanks to the internet, streaming, global-shipping, viral-meme-culture, commodification-of-the-invidivual-via-the-social-media-grind, (and let's be honest, piracy and archival culture), people have access to and are exposed to more entertainment than they could ever hope to consume in several lifetimes.
So, where does leave the typical diner at this restaurant? Well, as the next paragraphs will show, there is no such thing as a "typical diner." There are no gourmets, no gourmands. There is just the Cornucopia and groups of people wandering the endless salad bar. You can be first in line and pay a premium to experience the brand new dish. You can go back to the same section and reload your plate with the same thing as many times as you want, and people will ask if you don't ever get tired of the same thing. You can be a vegetarian. You can eat only meat. You can eat a bit of everything. You can brave the sneers and jeers of the gatekeepers as you sample something--with tastebuds aglow--for the first time and rave about it to all your friends.
Tumblr media
So what kind of dining experiences are there in this cultural canteen, this pop-culture pizzeria, this taverna theatre? What do you see there?
Popularity is the Objective Word Here
When something is popular, it spreads like wildfire. This has always been true of popular culture even before the internet. Humans are social, they tell stories and they share. This may seem obvious, but it's also bedrock for the other observations.
Tumblr media
Originality is Dead: Long Live Reboots and Remixes.
Tumblr media
Show of hands to three questions:
How many people recognize the reference of a gorilla carrying a woman, climbing the Empire State Building while bi-planes shoot at it?
King Kong right? A cultural icon for many years.
How many people have actually seen the original King Kong (1933) starring Fay Wray and directed by Cooper and Schoedsack?
Not as many right? Maybe you only saw one of the many remakes in 2021, 2017, 2005, 1986, 1976, 1967 or 1962.
How many people are alive today that saw King Kong (1933) in the cinema?
Not many I'll bet.
I'd wager the number of hands goes down with each question. And yet the staying power of the original story remains burned into film history and memory. The point is this. Humans retell stories. This is not a bug. It's a feature. "Tell me the story again of…" There is joy (and profit) in the retelling.
Derivative Reference is Often the Primary Way of Experiencing Pop Culture
OK, so people are sharing things left and right. They're retelling, remixing, rebooting, writing fan-fics, etc. All of this creative effort means that your first-time encountering something new may be a reference, rather than experiencing the original. People rarely experience the true original firsthand anymore. They're going to experience things second-hand.
Tumblr media
This is especially true with older media. A first experience with something will often be a derivative reference. An example: Back in the day, in school, we watched Planet of the Apes in class. (I don't know, probably the teacher was hung over.) Want to know how I figured out before the big reveal that the Planet of the Apes was really Earth?
Troy McClure spoiled it for me. In Season 7 Episode 9 of the Simpsons, "A Fish Called Selma," McClure takes an acting gig in a musical adaptation of Planet of the Apes, and he sings the following lines:
Oh my God, I was wrong It was earth all along Yes you finally made a monkey out of me.
So there I am, watching Planet of the Apes for the first time, and Troy McClure's big number starts playing in my head. I sit there in disbelief, remembering the Simpsons, and then practically crying into my desk with laughter.
Probably the teacher thought that "kids these days" don't appreciate cinema, but it was just so absurd to have the movie spoiled by a bit in the Simpsons.
Want to know something else? In doing research for this essay, I discovered that Planet of the Apes film isn't even the original. The original story was a French language novel "La Planète des Singes" by Pierre Boulle. So again, people love retelling, often in different forms of media.
Point is, the longer something has been out, the more it tends to be referenced in other forms. TV talk shows will make jokes referencing the new popular thing. Popular phrases quickly become part of the everyday lexicon. People talk at the water cooler. A tech mogul names their new software after one iconic word in Heinlein's 1961 sci-fi novel.
Any piece of popular culture could be "spoiled" for you at any moment, which brings us to....
Spoilers are Everywhere but Do They Just Act as Adverts?
King Kong dies in the end. Dumbledore Dies. Both of these are spoiler memes (and I'm not sorry), but consider the amount of time passed between the original release of both. How long is the statute of limitations on spoilers? How long before a popular piece of media saturates public awareness so much that it becomes unavoidable? Is this ultimately unavoidable because of the viral nature of advertising, marketing and sharing?
Tumblr media
In the modern day, it's increasingly hard to avoid spoilers. I've heard of people going off social media for weeks before a major film release so it doesn't get spoiled for them.
People seem divided on the topic of spoilers, but it's a very good question: Would you still enjoy a story if it was spoiled for you? Shakespeare spoils Romeo & Juliet in the first 14 lines:
Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life; Whose misadventured piteous overthrows Do with their death bury their parents' strife. The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love, And the continuance of their parents' rage, Which, but their children's end, nought could remove, Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage; The which if you with patient ears attend, What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.
Do you still want to see the rest of the play? What if it had Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo, Claire Danes as Juliet and Harold Perrineau as Mercutio? There is something to be said for knowing where the story goes, yet still enjoying the teling of the tale.
I'll go on record and say I don't really care about spoilers. They've become adverts to me, hooks of interest into things I might not have discovered otherwise. I have to encounter new media somehow, and I try to take a positive outlook on it, saying, "I was meant to discover this." If I like something, I'm going to like it unabashedly and still find a way to enjoy it.
Delayed Gratification
Tumblr media
If you are PC gamer, let me ask a question: How many unplayed games do you have in your Steam library? Games you haven't even downloaded and opened for the first time. What about unfinished games? Played-once-and-dropped-it games? Now ask yourself: Did you buy this game when it first came out? Did you pay for early access? Would you have still enjoyed it, even if you had to wait a while? Consider the Reddit community r/PatientGamers. They don't care to line up and pay a premium for a brand new release. They know it will still be the same game (often less buggy), and they will even be able to get it on sale. They know the salad bar is vast. There's lots of content, and there's no hurry. They let it come to them when the time is right.
I Don't Want to Hear It
Tumblr media
Similar to r/PatientGamers, there is also the phenomona when it seems like everyone is raving about something, to the point where you begin to actively block it out. It doesn't seem to matter what it is; even if it's something good that you would ultimately enjoy. Something about the repetition or the messaging rubs you wrong, and you innoculate yourself against it. You avoid that part of the salad bar at all costs, even if you might like it.
Interpreting the Rules: Remixing as Fan Behavior.
Tumblr media
How dooes your social circle play the game Uno? Fandom has a tendency to take what's been created and modify it, remix it according to their own rules, according to fanon's own internal logic. Sometimes it's seen as an act of repair, sometimes a love letter to canon. Sometimes it's shipping characters. Sometimes it is a what-if. What if all these different characters from different properties got together in a story?
Dismay at Media Conglomerate Strip Mining
Tumblr media
Has one of the five mega media conglomerates "ruined your childhood" by making a live-adaptation of your favorite childhood cartoon? Well, buckle up, because they aren't going to stop. The big five are hungry for content, and they are actively strip-mining your childhood favorites. It doesn't matter if it's a live action remake of Avatar the Last Airbender or CATS the musical, eventually some studio exec is going to see dollar signs, and your favorite thing is going to get a bad remake. It's best to just accept this.
Further Dismay at AI Strip Mining
If you don't like what the big five are doing, you will hate what AI is doing, and if you're an artist you probably already know you are getting robbed by AI companies. Large language models (also known as Plausible Sentence Generators) and text-to-artwork tools like Stable Diffusion and Midjourney are getting more sophisticated.
They're still scraping the web, and more sites seem to be selling user-generated content to these places, prompting artists to use Glaze and Nightshade to protect their work and poison AI data-models.
People are selling their likeness for permanent use in perpetuity for use in crowds. Lord of the Rings used AI-enabled CGI units in some of the battles, and that was over 20 years ago. How long before they don't hire extras for movies anymore?
The year is 2100. You put on a vid. It is the usual cast, starring: Tu-Pac Shakur's avatar, Hatsune Miku, the latest Disney princess avatar, and the disembodied voice of James Earl Jones. All of the original flesh and blood actors are long dead, but their AI avatars and copyright ramain. Some were never were alive in the first place. It's all necrotainment. You turn off the TV.
Back to the present year, James Earl Jones's voice is now in an AI model, so Disney can give us the same Darth Vader forever. The year 2100 seems not so far away.
On the plus side, there seems to be a growing backlack against AI-generated content. People consider it cheap, shoddily-made and flimsy, and the quickest way to associate a brand as cheap garbage. At the Glasgow Willy Wonka's Chocolate experience event, the organizer used AI generated visuals for the marketing, and people arrived disappointed at the "dirty old warehouse." According to Paul Connell, the actor who played Wonka, the script was "15 pages of AI-generated gibberish."
"I never knew I would have liked this"
OK this is getting a bit grim, so here's something fun: People are getting exposed to other cultures' entertainment, and they like it! Netflix reports that 60% of their users have watched a Korean drama, and they plan to invest USD $2.5 billion in future Korean drama for the platform. Like anime booming outside of Japan in the 80s and 90s, or the British Invasion in the 1960s, people try out other parts of the salad bar, and discover they quite like it.
Archival Behavior
Tumblr media
Abraham Lincoln once said, "You can't believe everything you read on the Internet." This is why screencapping and archiving things has become more important. Tweets get deleted, accounts get banned, and users deactivate. Capturing and archiving things here at least preserves some of the conversation.
In the Art of War, Sun Tzu wrote, "If you know yourself and you know your enemy -- and let's be clear the enemy are techbros, who are fundamentally lazy and want to cut corners for the sake of a quick buck and flashy, fake-innovation. Even their own mothers don't love them. They stole this content from Tumblr username whatmathgodwrought, original posting date 2024/03/03, and this should be used as evidence in the lawsuit against the responsible parties -- you need not fear the result of a hundred battles."
If the internet is just 4 websites containing screenshots of the other ones, many are doing the good work of archiving for posterity.
Tumblr media
Wasn't this Post also about Tumblr?
Yeah, yeah, we're taking the scenic route. (If you actually read this far, thank you. Send whatmathgodwrought a message and I'll read your blog, maybe reblog some of your stuff, maybe even follow you.)
Let's recap: pop culture spreads like wildfire. It gets retold/remixed/rebooted. Reference and spoilers are everywhere. You can delay and still enjoy a thing anytime, or you can resolutely choose to avoid a thing completely. You can remix, recreate, and fan-theorize canon ideas to their natural conclusion. The big five entertainment corps and AIs are strip-mining the heck out of it. People loves to try out things they never would have had access to before. So, after having some of these kind of experiences, you can post your fandom thoughts on Tumblr, add tags and watch it blow up (or not) or don't add tags (and watch it somehow blow up anyway?). Posts with "10k note energy" have slept for years before someone fired a reblog chain heard round the world. So what makes this environment the Galapagos Island or Cambrian period of websites for this Salad Bar idea?
Repeat and Resurgence
Tumblr media
So the thing about a recurring joke is that it keep recurring. People will often write: "I will always reblog this." There are also seasonal examples. King Taejong falls from his horse, Feb 8, 1404. Julius Casear's assassaination on the Ides of March. Voyager's "Threshold" season-2, episode 15, Jan 29th. The clay tablet to Ea-nāṣir complaining about inferior quality copper. People like retelling, and reblogging with scheduling or queue contributes to the seasonal nature of repeat themes.
Tag You're It
Tumblr media
Tags kind of help with the spreads-like-wildfire aspect. I've always liked tags as a general concept, because they're a flat, non-hierarchical, multi-category way of organizing information. In the Dewey Decimal system, your number is the category, and that's it; no nuance, no second-guessing, no argument. With tags, you add as many as you want, and then off it goes--haphazardly careening about the Tumblr ecosystem. Tagging is also broken, but whatever.
Goncharov
Tumblr media
my favourite thing about the goncharov nonsense is that it relies on the tumblr culture of watching ur mutual posting about something but not really paying attention to it. the reason it slips so easily under the radar is we’re all used to seeing people’s random sudden fixations on our dashes and then just letting them do their thing - you don’t unfollow, you often don’t even filter it out, you just think ‘hey, glad they’re having fun’ and scroll past. i went like two days before realising it was a mass joke because i assumed one of my mutuals was just Really Into some old mafia film from the 70s all of a sudden. because why wouldn’t they be
User @watchmakermori hits the nail on the head. Tumblr's ecosystem exposes the user to random fandoms, which they might like, might look at later, or might actively avoid. It is within that space of ambiguity that the Goncharov phenomena thrived.
Trending By Organic Pollination
Tumblr media
On this hellsite, it's possible to completely overwhelm the tags and get something trending, but at least this is mostly driven by human interest. In this case, Tumblr's lack of an algorithm is actually a feature. When a mutual reblogs something, at least I know that a human did it, unlike algorithm-based, auto-served content. We've seen what algorithms have done to Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and even Google search. Algorithms drive "engagement", endless scrolling, and are likely contributing to Dead Internet Theory. At least Tumblr users are continuously blocking bots, trying to inoculate against AI-generated content, and are reblogging human content.
Parallel Play
Tumblr media
Tumblr users' tendency to engage in parallel play also contributes to the remix factor as users reblog, retag and recontextulize. A shitpost becomes educational. Two isolated fandoms collide accidentally because of a poll. Someone makes a spelling error and it goes viral. Users play with JPEGs like dolls. Everyone is just out there doing their own thing in the big sandbox, and emergent behaviors result.
In Conclusion?
Tumblr media
This post ended up more Tumblr-positive than I intended, even though that wasn't the original idea. The idea was to be more dispassionate, more objective, a casual observer. But like any participant-observer, I've gotten a bit caught up in the phenomenon.
So let's call this a Love Letter (academically aggravated) to Tumblr. Suffice it to say, I hope y'all keep blocking bots, reblogging humans, spiting the great AI content harvest, and keep enjoying the Salad Bar.

Hii for the fandom ask game I'm shooting two of your questions right back at you because when you asked me them they made me immediately wonder about your answers, 23 and 25! Also: 1, 8, and 16!
omg thank you for so many asks!
23. The fandom you're curious about because of a mutual:
@stvlti posting on my dash about the new Scott Pilgrim anime got me curious enough to start watching it recently! I read those comics back in college and thought they were pretty great, as was the Edgar Wright movie. And the anime seems like a very good adaptation of it so far. Can't explain how funny it is as a Canadian to see Canada as the setting for an anime, either... I just feel like we have such a bland normie country to set things in, hahaha
I'm also getting very curious about a ton of different manga thanks to the recs I've received on my blog recently! (X)
25. A piece of advice for taking care of yourself in fandom spaces:
HMMM.
I think the main thing I get people asking me about here sometimes is how to make more friends in the fandom, especially when you're new and don't know anybody. I think the main bits of advice I have on that front is:
(1) I SWEAR YOU AREN'T BEING SNUBBED/INTENTIONALLY IGNORED, YOU'RE PROBABLY JUST NOT ON OTHER PEOPLE'S RADARS AT ALL
So follow a bunch of other bloggers in that fandom and interact with their blogs first! Like their posts, send them polite/friendly asks looking for their takes (this is especially easy to do when people reblog ask memes), and be brave enough not to go on anon when you do it so they can see your lovely face and actually potentially make a connection with you! Most people LOVE getting asks and are flattered when somebody else asks for their thoughts. If you're genuine with your interest it shouldn't take long for other people to start taking interest in you back.
Which leads to my second point of:
(2) MAKE SURE YOU ACTUALLY ARE POSTING THINGS ON YOUR BLOG ON A SEMI-REGULAR BASIS! People will probably click on your blog once you start interacting with them, and they will most likely only follow you back if you actually have stuff on your blog that shows your interests/personality/the kinds of things they can expect you to be posting on their dash! You can easily stock up a bunch of posts into a queue if you're worried about spamming the dash or don't want to be online 24/7 too, so it will keep your blog active without you actually having to be there all the time.
ALSO DO NOT HAVE TOO MUCH SHAME TO LITERALLY ASK YOUR FOLLOWERS TO SEND YOU ASKS. Reblog fandom ask memes, it's a great way to give people a template of questions to bug you nicely with, and answering one ask often leads to receiving another ask!
(3) DO YOUR OWN THING WHETHER OR NOT ANYBODY IS CONSTANTLY PATTING YOU ON THE BACK. First and foremost I'm usually making myself laugh here on my blog and hoarding all of these posts for myself, so even when I'm not getting constant feedback from others I'm still having a good time and posting on the regular! I'm SUPER glad that other people get something out of it too, but I think when it comes to blogging you should treat your blog like your own personal little kingdom where you are making the rules, and other people can follow or unfollow as they please.
And finally:
(4) YOU WILL EVENTUALLY LOSE A FOLLOWER OR TWO, BUT SO DO I AND SO DOES EVERYBODY ELSE. Try not to obsessively check your follower count or to take it as a huge calamity if your count goes down instead of up once in a while! It WILL eventually go back up again, and you genuinely have no idea why it dropped most of the time (it probably wasn't anything majorly personal - maybe somebody just is no longer in your fandom, maybe Tumblr is clearing out some porn bots, maybe a follower is deactivating their blog - or maybe you DID post something that somebody didn't like, but that's ok, it's probably better if they aren't following you anymore anyways!) And you should ALSO block/unfollow people freely if they're really making your blogging experience uncomfortable - at the end of the day you don't really know them and they don't really know you, and you will both probably move on and forget about it not too far down the road.
1. List 3 positive things about your current fandom(s):
(1) Genuinely extremely chill and cozy, and almost always has been in my experience!
(2) People have the best sense of humour here. IDK I think I took it for granted that all fandoms were like that but anytime I venture into other ones I find myself being a bit disappointed that people just aren't as funny in general a lot of the time
(3) OMG thank you everybody for all the delicious fanfic and fanart, and for continuing to still make it steadily even in 2023
8. You hope more people will come to appreciate ___ (a ship, a trope, an episode, etc.):
I'm gonna advocate for a ship I don't even have a ton of personal investment in and say meronia! God, stop sleeping on this pairing already and/or acting like it's way more problematic than it actually is, you silly ancient fandom you (no, they are not basically related, they simply went to the same school in their childhood for a bit). These two definitely deserve to have their relationship a bit better explored!
16. A tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate:
Watari had an entire-ass family of his own, apparently!
Tumblr media
Isn't that weird to think about? There is actually SO MUCH unanswered stuff about how his relationship with L actually was set up, especially if you are just going by the original manga serial and aren't using the one-shots or the anime or LABB novel to flesh out L's backstory or any Wammy's lore. And sometimes I think it might be neat to see people exploring it in totally different ways that would still be 100% plausible based on what little we know!

It's been so long , star trek my beloved I'm back.
Another note that I'm making from later on after I started making this post, is that apparently I miss numbered one of my posts a while ago and I'm on episode ahead of where I thought I was so my last post says 01X23-01X24 but should be 01X24-01X25 , sorry I didn't catch that it was the wrong numbers before now.
Series I'm currently on : The original series
Episodes watched: 01X26 - 01X27
Episode names:
The Devil in the Dark
Errand of Mercy
Thoughts:
The devil in the Dark
A bunch of men walking around searching for a monster to dramatic music that almost deafened me because my tablets volume was all the way up and I didn't realize.
They left a singular person alone while they investigate some more I wonder what's going to happen /j
He got eaten all he wanted to do was see the enterprise, also these guys have to go how could this happen even though they left him alone knowing that something was killing everyone
Conveniently walks into a room right as your needed for part of the conversation
I love these neon colored jump suits
These monsters are a mafia bosses wet dream a walking version of a barrel of battery acid that destroys and dissolves absolutely everything it touches.
It fucked up the reactor that controls everything on the planet like life support and this has happened so many times that I question why they have no back up systems on these colonies
Scotty throwing shade at how old the reactor is
" we asked for your help and for you to take us off of this planet but now that you're here we don't want your help. And by we I mean I don't want your help but I'm going to make this decision for thousands of people because of my pride as the person in charge "
I love how Spock went " what if it is this theoretical cryptid being" and Kirk immediately went yes absolutely I am 100% behind you
Oop they just sent a bunch of red shirts in the tunnels to look for the creature you know what that means
Red shirt #1 has died , he also has the most 70s christian youth pastor hair cut I have ever seen
That is not how the monster was described as looking earlier on at all
This creature is made out of corrosive materials that have dissolved people alive and your just gonna bare hand pick up part of it that fell off when you shot it with your phaser not 5 minutes before ?
A crime against science ?
" I'm sorry if it makes you sad Spock but we're gonna have to kill the creature even if it is a crime against science"
More red shirts being sent into the tunnels to split up
Nah you can't tell me this isn't flirting like kirk's pulling that face again the one he only ever does with Spock you know
Spock being forced to squat to fit in the tunnel in his high heel channel uniform boots
Spock was about to go full Vulcan strength when he thought jim was hurt
These ball thing are eggs aren't they? I bet this is the trope of accidentally stealing an egg of a unknown creature and then they hunt you down because they want the egg back
Look at this thing :
Tumblr media
Does this look sparkly and glowy like it was described ?
Spock was all for making sure that the creature stayed alive but now that Jim is in danger he's going " kill that bitch , no hesitation just shoot it you have to stay alive"
Jim is like that cat bug meme of " we're friends now we're having soft tacos later"
Spock's gonna mind meld with the creature
It's calls itself the hort
" nonsense Spock, McCoy is a doctor he can heal anything "
No wonder he's always so done with kirk's shit
Oh my God the colonists just murdered the red shirts
They were the hort's eggs and she was killing them because they smashed her eggs and killed her babies
No one is acknowledging that they killed the red shirts
McCoy healed the hort !
What was left of the babies hatched
Mama hort had the hots for Spock
Errand of Mercy
They are mentioning the Klingon , ay !
Now they are being attacked
Sulu is in charge now
" we have no people in charge but we have a council that makes all of the decisions , you may speak with them "
So you do in fact have people in charge
There is no war in ba sing se
Spock and Kirk are now stranded because they made Sulu leave
Also the council members have the ability to see premonitions
Early Klingons look so weird
Tumblr media
This particular Klingon ( the one pictures above ) is almost obsessed with Kirk and it's so funny
Cause like all that Kirk has done is be silent and sassy
Spock has been arrested for being Vulcan
Now he is free after they probed his mind
Kirk and Spock are talking mighty loud in front of the Klingons for two people putting together a secret rebellion plan
I like how literally all of the people on this planet are fine with being taken over but Kirk is just sitting there yelling at them going " fight back, come on , care about this man. I know what's good for you and you don't ."
Kirk has been betrayed by the council
The Klingon dude is still obsessed with Kirk
I like how Kirk and Spock's clothes look like their uniforms
The council betrays the Klingon to help Kirk and Spock
Klingon phasers sound like magic tricks in cartoons
" if you don't let me stop violence then I will harm you "
These actors are so dramatic when there only job is to walk around and pretend to pass out or die , they really had to make sure they were gonna get that money huh ?
Klingons really came a long way development wise from this episode
So the council are alot more powerful than they let on and made everything extremely hot and shut off all of the ships and are trying to end the war
Now Kirk and the Klingon general are arguing like kids that got into a fist fight in elementary school
Is this a planet of Qs ?
Now everything is back to normal

Rules And Requests
There aren't very many, but I figured since I get asked a lot I'll make a short little list. This is also getting reblogged and linked on my other account, so if you see it there as well that's why. I might add to it as time goes on depending on how things go in the future and such. It's uncommon for me to turn away a request so honestly I'd say if you want something in your smut or imagine, just shoot me a message through dms, it's easier that way because I can explain better and work things out with you so I can still give you the best writing possible. I'm not going to judge you or make fun of you if you ask me a question. About anything. No matter how obvious it may be. I tried to write these out in the most explanation I could without writing huge paragraphs, but I like talking so I apologize-
Requests
There isn't a limit to how much you can request. I had someone ask me this and I'd never really thought about it, but I didn't really need to. You can send in however many you want whenever you want. Even if you don't put the anon, and your name is displayed, you can send in like 15 requests in one day and it won't bother me. I'm not gonna dm you and yell at you or anything so long as it's not a repeated request and as long as you're not being an asshole about it.
On that note, when you send an ask, it doesn't have to be a writing. I'll answer anything whether it's headcanons or memes or if you just want to have like a debate or discussion I'm totally down. The only things I would ignore would be hate comments really, which I've never gotten before, so that's cleared. If you want to talk to me, go ahead, I'd love to chat with you over asks or dms, both work.
If you like a writing and want a part 2, request it. Some writers I know don't do that, and I could understand why, but personally I don't mind. I'll keep writing for that specific storyline until I'm either satisfied with the ending, you stop requesting, or I literally just get burnt out and cannot physically think of anything else for the storyline. Whether it goes to just 2 parts, 5 parts, or 16 parts, if you want it, then tell me and I'll see what I can do for you.
Writing
I totally do not mind writing smut (obviously) though do be warned that it's not something I'm super fond of writing. I get burnt out easier with these requests and since I don't really do much sexual things myself in my personal life and they tend to be repetitive, it's a little difficult to write. That being said, don't be afraid to send the request in. I will write practically whatever you want me to, I just ask for your patience and understanding when it comes to that sort of content.
Scat/Vomit I won't write, I will write piss kinks because they don't really faze me but anything with feces or vomit, doesn't necessarily gross me out, but it's just uncomfortable to write in a sexual context for me personally.
I also don't write things having to do with animals. Mythical creatures or folklore or even cryptids are a little different since I can work around those, though smut again is an iffy. Anything whether it's dogs, cats, or insects/bugs in general, that grosses me out. I won't think you're weird, because I don't really care what kinks anyone has, that's their business not mine, but I will not write anything pertaining towards any bestialities.
If you're reading something I've written and noticed I missed a tag or a warning, tell me. Immediately. I've said it before and I'll say it however many times I have to. This is a safe space and I'd hate for someone to read something and end up upset because it included non con or blood or something of the sort that they're sensitive to. I don't always reread my writing before I send them out, I try to but sometimes I just get excited and want to put it out. Please don't be hesitant to tell me if I missed something.
Myself/Others
Be respectful to each other. You'd think it'd be a given, but sometimes it isn't. My biggest thing and I've already listed it probably twice is that this is a safe space here. Anything regarding hate, racism, sexism, homophobia, anything against any religions, etc. I'm deleting those comments and likely reporting that person. I don't take kindly to acts of hate on my page whether it's to myself, my friends, or to other people around me.
This kind of goes with the top one but simply be patient with me. I talk openly about things as they happen and how my mental and physical health are pacing with everyone so we're all on the same page and know what's going on. My mental health isn't always the greatest (recently been re-diagnosed with bpd) and I might not be up to write something every single day. Don't fret. I see your request, I've likely started it. All I ask for is your patience with me.

For the last askbox meme - Congestion/Crying/“I’m sorry I’m so sick” (for Stucky, if you're inspired...)
Thank you for this prompt, @strange-capers! I’m sorry it took me forever to fill but I figured you were in definite need of some sick!steve
Winter weather is not Steve’s favorite, to say the very least. He really doesn’t mind the cold - well, he doesn’t mind it as long as he can be inside, underneath a blanket and cuddled up with Bucky and their cats in front of the fire.
He definitely minds the cold when he’s walking through it, he thinks, shoving his gloved hands further in his pockets. He gives a little shiver and scrunches his nose at the itch winding its way through his sinuses and behind his eyes. Steve tenses his shoulders to his ears and rubs his nose against the infinity scarf around his neck for half a second before stifling a volley of sneezes, each one more stuffy and hoarse than the last.
He had woken up every morning for the last few days, too stuffy to breathe, but after sniffling and blowing his nose for a couple of minutes, he was fine the rest of the day.
Now though, it seems that whatever head cold he’d had brewing the last five days had settled in and hit full force, leaving him congested and headachey with an awful sore throat, and too tired to function.
He figures that the major fluctuation in temperature is mostly to blame.  All of last week, the weather had been in the mid to high tens, and even though it had shot up to close to sixty degrees yesterday, it was down to nearly ten degrees today, and Steve has had enough.
All he really wants to do is be asleep in bed, or at least in bed with a cup of tea or hot chocolate (he’ll take either at this point - his throat is killing him, and even though it feels like he’s dressed in about a thousand layers, it’s doing nothing to warm him up, and it feels like ice is running through his veins).  His body aches - probably from how badly he’s been shivering, but maybe also from the possible fever he could be running.
Either way, it doesn’t matter. Being sick doesn’t change the fact that he needs to finish the research for his dissertation today, because he needs to start it as soon as possible, and he can’t if his research isn’t done.
His head is reeling by the time he reaches the coffee shop.  He’s feels awful, and anxious and panicky about how much he has to do…and Bucky is working today. Steve knows he’s going to be pissed when Steve steps through the doors, because he had given him strict instructions to stay in bed.
Steve steps into the coffee shop, sniffling as the congestion shifts in his head and brushes the snow off his shoulders, and only looks up when he hears a very exasperated (but not at all surprised), “Steven, what the hell are you doing here? It’s ten degrees outside, you moron.”
“I have to f-findish r-research for mby d-dissertationd,” he sniffles, rubbing at his nose.  Irritated tears prick at the corners of his eyes, and before he knows it, he’s muffling a trio of sneezes into the crook of his elbow.
“I know that, bless you.  Do you want to die? Are you trying to give yourself pneumonia, because that’s the only logical explanation I can come up with for you walking half a mile in the cold and snow. You could’ve done research from bed, you know that right?” Bucky scolds, rolling his eyes as he comes around from behind the counter.
He muffles a coughing fit into his scarf, groaning when it feels like it rips at his throat. His throat hurts so bad, like one of their cats has been using it as a scratching post, and every cough and sneeze makes it hurt a little bit more.
“I cand ndever get andythi’gg donde at hombe,” he murmurs, “ndot with the cats.”
“Then shut them out of the bedroom.”
Steve shoots Bucky the most betrayed look, “but they’ll cry. That would be mbeand.”
Bucky sighs, touching Steve’s lower back. “Go sit in a booth, I’ll bring you some tea for your throat.”
“You’re worki’gg. You have custombers, imb finde.”
He rolls his eyes and walks Steve over to the booth closest to the counter, “tea takes all of two seconds to make, you beautiful idiot. Your throat sounds awful, so just please let me take care of you. I’ll get you some tissues, too.”
*
Steve has been hunched over his laptop, cheek pressed against the keyboard, fast asleep for the last seven hours. Bucky had tried waking him a few times to get him into a more comfortable position, but the poor guy was so exhausted that he didn’t even stir. The only indication that he was, in fact, still breathing was his soft little snores from just how congested he was, and the few times he would half-wake up to cough or sneeze before falling back asleep.
Bucky had tried to sweet talk his boss into letting him leave early, but they were slammed and understaffed, and they couldn’t afford him leaving, so he was stuck working until his shift was finally over.
Which was right about now.
“Steve,” Bucky says gently, hand between his shoulder blades. “Wake up, it’s time to go.”
Steve opens his eyes and pushes himself into a sitting position, bleary confusion all over his face.
Bucky bites his lip to keep from laughing at how cute Steve looks - hair sticking up on one side and the imprint of the keyboard all along his cheek.
“What? What ti’be is it?” He rasps, a grimacing at just how awful he feels.
“Six.”
“What? It’s six? I just got here.”
Bucky winces; he sounds worlds worse than when he first got here, and his heart drops a little at just how sick Steve looks - all pale faced and pink nosed with dark bruises beneath his pink-rimmed, glassy eyes. He runs his fingers through Steve’s hair for a few moments, messing with it to try and tame how crazy his hair is.  He rests his hand on the back of his neck to feel for fever, and then presses the backs of his fingers against his temple and strokes his face gently.
At least he’s not that feverish, which is something
“Yeah, like seven hours ago.”
“Ndo, I…” he slumps forward, burying his face in his hands.  “It cand’t be six…I ndeeded to have mby research do’de today,  I’mb goi’gg to be so far behi’d. I’mb goi’gg to get kicked out a’d everyonde is goi’gg to laugh at mbe, a’d-”
“-Stevie,” Bucky says, putting his hands on Steve’s shoulders, and then his cheeks. “Relax. You’re already way ahead of everybody in your program.  Give yourself a break, you’ve earned it.”
He sniffles, “I guess.”
“I know. How’re you feelin’?”
His eyelids flutter shut, “do I have a fever? Feels like I have a fever.”
“You feel a little warm, I think? But we also have the heat on, so it’s probably just that…I’m still checking when we get home, just in case.”
“Everythi’gg hurts.”
“You’ve been sleeping on your laptop for the last seven hours,” Bucky frowns, brushing the hair off Steve’s forehead.  “It’s no wonder you ache so bad.”
“Oh.”
“What got you so sick? You’re never sick,” Bucky frowns.
It’s true - in the three years they’ve been together, Bucky can count on one hand the number of times he’s actually been sick enough to warrant taking a sick day (not that he ever took one, but that’s beside the point). He ate the healthiest of anyone Bucky knows, and the man goes on a run every morning without fail.  His diet and exercise regimen is enough to help his immune system ward off most things, but it looks like even Steve isn’t immune to the bug making its way through his PhD program.
“Cha’ge ind tembperature, I thi’gk…mbaybe?”
“That’ll do it…you look miserable, sweetheart,” Bucky frowns.  “Ready t’go?”
“Uh-huh,” he nods, coughing into his scarf.  “I really dond’t feel good, Buck…I wandt to go to bed.”
“I know,” Bucky coos softly, “I’ll get you feeling better soon, I promise.”
*
Steve spikes a fever around nine that night, and all it does is make him emotional and near-tears for hours.
“Honey, what can I do?” Bucky asks, alternating between playing with his hair and rubbing his face and back.
“Ndothi’gg…I’mb sorry I’mb so sick,” Steve whimpers, choking on a sob.
“No, I’m sorry you’re sick and feel so awful.”
“Just kill mbe…it’ll be easier.”
“Sorry, baby,” Bucky frowns.  “How about more medicine? That might help…or water? You want some water?”
Steve makes a face before shaking his head, “throat hurts too bad.”
“Want to watch something, then? Take your mind off how you feel? I can put on some boring documentary you can fall asleep to, how’s that sound?”
“Finde by mbe,” he sniffles.
“Okay,” Bucky says, leaning down to kiss the damp cloth he has on Steve’s forehead.
“I love you…tha’gk you, Jambes.”
“I love you too, Stevie,” Bucky murmurs, stroking his burning cheek.

Note
It's way too hot in your room, probably because it's August, but you're not one to judge. With an inexplicable groan, you open the window and lay on your side, listening to the sounds of whatever creature frequents your home. They're loud - these bugs - a raccoon scurrying through a pile of leaves - or another appropriate figure, obviously taunting you. You could be sleeping, but instead, you're here, 1:30 in the morning, hopelessly exhausted with no motivation to sleep. (1/2)
Hesitantly, you reach for whatever device is most convenient to you and log into your Tumblr account. Ah, the hellish website where you are free to discuss your outlandish interests to your hearts content. It’s as if David Karp is whispering in your ear, telling you that you’re home. For some reason you squint at the screen, feeling a certain disturbance. It isn’t hot at all. You’re actually fairly comfortable. If someone were writing about you, it’d be great for them to do some research.
Nevermind the Swerve level fourth wall break. You’re going to sleep, if it kills you, and if your mutual knows anything about you, it will. You hit yourself in the face, realizing that Red, on caffeine, though necessary and unavoidable is a bad idea whenever you need sleep. Breathing in and out, you finally close your eyes. Any normal person dreams of so-called sugar plum fairies dancing. You think of alien robots, picking you up in their servos, and embracing you. That’s the dream.
It’d be so nice if you could quench your thirst through means of something realistic, but Cybertron seems so far away. These characters, these figures, mean so much to you. Believe it or not you recognize more humanity in them than a lot of people in your life. That’s so pretentious but you honestly can’t shake the thought that all you want to do is frag someone 15 feet taller than you are, or cuddle, or just gaze longingly at and eventually get stepped on. You have no protective shell!
You’re frustrated. Your meme-filled brain can’t take anymore. You’re going to pull an all nighter, per the usual. Instead of feeling lonely for a fictional planet, you’ll put those frustrations to good use – maybe draw or write something better than this bullshit meta bomb spiel. Somehow, someway, you quietly manage to make a cup of very strong black coffee. You return to your bedroom, and collapse, laying on your stomach and yelling into a pillow that clearly didn’t deserve this.
Then it happens. You’re struck with the realization that if you were being written into a bullshit attempt at an x reader fanfiction, it would have to be re-written, after a proper question and answer session. Yeah, that’d be nice, and make more sense. Part of you wants to just sleep, so that this can end, and you can actually experience something that makes sense, but you feel footsteps, not normal, light ones, loud, booming footsteps. Could this be the moment things get interesting?
You glance out your window to find a disgruntled, blue cassette player-like figure who shoots you a deadpan expression. You can’t tell exactly, because of a fiendishly 80s design and a face-plate.
“Continue observation: human has been activated."
You press your face against the window, blinking. If this is a hallucination, at least it’s a neat one.
"I’m not a robot!” You shout, curiously rubbing your eyes. “I can’t be activated, or deactivated, though sometimes I wish I could be."
"Are you functional?” He asks, a certain gentleness in his Welker-esque, Cylon-like, robotic voice.
“That’s debatable,” you respond, rolling your eyes. “On one hand, I’m talking to a giant alien robot, who isn’t real. On the other, I feel like I’m in the midst of a bad fanfiction that was supposed to go one direction but has taken a turn for the worst, but isn’t that just life, Soundy?"
The question is rhetorical, as your friend reaches out a hand. "For you,” he offers, his voice quiet.
“You’re a man of a few words. I like that about you."
He gently lifts you up and places you on his shoulder. Then, morally ambiguous Soundwave begins to walk forward, either not caring, or disregarding the fact that alien robots are generally frowned upon. You feel a chill come over you, most likely because your room is always at the very comfortable temperature of 90 degrees under those blankets.
"Listen, I like this as much as the next guy, but you think you can fit me in that little compartment of yours? The one with all of the mini cassettes?"
"It is too crowded.” He responds simply. “Ravage does not like the company.”
"Isn’t he -“ You shiver once more, wrapping your arms around you. "I-it’s cold up here. I keep my room - err - hab suite really warm and I don’t mean to be high maintenance, mister soundwave, sir, but it’s cold as balls."
"Be patient, Red."
"Holy shit, you know my name."
"Of course I do."
"Right, I forgot about the whole ‘telepathy’ thing."
"It isn’t that simple. I will explain momentarily, but I need you to be patient."
"I think I liked you better when you were all one liners or telling Optimus Prime that you were superior in Prime. That was cool."
He lets out a sigh, and you take that as reason to be quiet. For some reason, you’re willing to trust the former outlier. He’s kind to you, and you know that there is a method to his so-called alien madness. He can tell. Soundwave eases up and continues.
"Close your eyes." He requests. You aren’t about to disobey, or risk being stepped upon. With that, he continues.
Finally, he stops. He holds you in front of him - AND OH GOD IS HE GOING TO KILL YOU, WHAT A WAY TO GO - and puts you in his lap. He shuffles and lays down. "Open."
You do as he asks and are welcomed to a sea of stars. He still has a pair of arms wrapped around you, and you glance up, smiling.
"I know I’m probably beating a dead Ravage by asking,” It doesn’t work, because he’s not a horse. “but why did you bring me here?"
"To prove something to you,” he assures, ignoring the horrendous commentary about his weird robo-cat.
“Listen, Soundwave, I’m totally for proving dumbasses like me wrong, but I’m missing the point here." You swear the windows error noise just played in your head.
Your Cybertronian friend groans, and you let out a sigh, relaxing against his chest plate.
"Fine, fine, I’ll be quiet."
"Do you see those stars?” He asks.
“Yeah, they’re a bunch'a neat lil explosions!"
"They have always served their purpose for your species. They have helped lead your ships’ captains in times of turmoil, and have created a permanent backdrop forcing you to think, to dream even."
"I love stars as much as the next guy, but I’m not following, here, Soundy."
"My point is, they have taught you that you are not alone."
You pause and glance up at his face plate curiously, as he points to the sky. "If there were a Cybertron in your universe, that is where it would be.”
“So?” You dare ask.
“Whenever you feel alone, remember that I am out there watching, that all of us are. I created a commune in hopes of creating a home for my fellow displaced Cybertronians, Decepticon, and Autobot. I taught Cosmos and so many others that they are not alone, and that’s what I aim to do for you."
"You don’t have to worry about me.” You laugh, brushing it off.
“You don’t know the impact you make on others, Red, how many lives you have changed."
"With all due respect…I’m a senior in high school. I don’t need this kind of wisdom. I’m literally nothing."
"And that’s where you’re wrong. My reasoning behind pointing out Cybertron and Sanctuary Station is we’re all -” He pauses, attempting to find the right word, “rooting for you. As long as we are real to you, we will never be far away. We’re here to help you recognize your own talents. You’re an artist. No matter what it is, it’s beautiful, and it blows us away. Your writing is well-spoken, intricate. Everything you do is beautiful, and reminds us, even us, of our own self worth, of our own importance. It’s time you start seeing all that we see in you."
You swear you can hear his own spark pulsate or convulse, whatever the appropriate word is, and it’s as beautiful, as beautiful as his own words. You don’t know if you’re ready to believe him, but you swear he’s being honest. The former Decepticon is known for his loyalty and intellect, he isn’t deceitful like a certain seeker is made out to be.
"Do you really mean that?” You ask hesitantly. “-that I’m important to even Cybertron?"
"Of course I do. I don’t have to have telepathic abilities or be an Outlier to understand your importance. Keep focusing on your craft, and know, that someday soon, you will recognize these things in yourself and that you will be wonderful. Never forget who’s watching over you, and who’s rooting for you."
You yawn and drift into sleep in the mech’s arms, your eyes closing to the feeling of his chestplate expanding and retracting.
The next morning, you awake, knowing that someone who believes in you is looking out for you. You are wonderfully talented in every way shape and form. Never forget this as you finish your senior year of high school. You are going to change the world, I promise.
the only words i have are:holy shit i am literally crying

Rainbow Six: Siege and why I love it.
History of Siege:
Rainbow Six: Siege is a tactical FPS game developed and published by Ubisoft (more specifically Ubisoft Montreal) during December 1st. The game is currently approaching the end of its third year and has reached around 35,000,000 (35 million) players, but it didn't start this way.
Siege's official gameplay trailer was shown at E3 is vastly different to the game upon release. The game trailer shows tactical and long rounds requiring large amounts of communication with little room for error, stunning graphics and interactive animation between the hostage and other players. No operators were shown indicating that originaly everyone would be the games current operator "Recruit" but with their own special loadout and no abilities with customisation likely being very limited.
The trailer ends with a standoff between a defender and an attacker firing shots with no answer to who won the round (probably to show that both sides are infact balanced and have equal chance of winning). You could even take a helicopter landing onto the roof which is badass (And probably would've saved us from the spawn peak craze, but more on that later) but alas the game changed vastly at some point during production.
youtube
(I can't really talk about the beta as not only do I think it's not really important to understanding the history of siege as it played almost identically to day one release but I also have never played the beta version of Siege, However I will link a video to a closed Alpha gameplay video)
youtube
1st of December 2015: Rainbow Six: Siege is released to the world with 20 operators (and everyone's favourite: Recruit of course) these included: SAS: Thatcher, Sledge, Smoke, Mute. FBI: Ash, Thermite, Castle, Pulse. GIGN: Montange, Twitch, Rook, Doc Spetsnaz: Fuze, Glaz, Tachanka, Kapkan GSG9: IQ, Blitz, Jager, Bandit
Giving two from each to the attacks and defenders. (Attackers left, Defenders right) Your starting team depended on your colour. Orange was Defence and Blue was attack with the teams rotating roles each round while maintaining their colour.
But the operators were locked behind walls of money called Renown. Luckily however this didn't effect the game too hard as within literally one match you had your first operator in that division. But the prices rose if you wanted to buy an operator in the same grouping. So if I bought SAS Thatcher all SAS ops would be more expensive (Unless using R6 credits the in game paid currency). My first operator was GIGN Montange a shield operator and my last was GIGN Rook who ironically became my most played defender so I just wish I'd bought him earlier. Each operator has a unique ability which changes the playstyle with limited resources that cannot be reloaded even in the terrorist hunt game mode which gives you ammo boxes.
Here's a link to a video containing all operator guns, and abilities:
youtube
A season pass system was also announced by Ubisoft the first being Operator Black ice giving us two Canadian operators: Frost and Buck and this is what I think makes Siege so unique from other tactical FPS. These operations unlocked cosmetic items, new weapon skins (Most noted is the black ice renowned for being the best skin in the game) here's a list by Ubisoft of all rewards for the pass.
The JTF-2 operators, Frost and Buck, the Navy SEALs operators, Valkyrie and Blackbeard, the BOPE operators, Caveira and Capitão, and the SAT operators, Echo and Hibana. 600 R6 credits, R6 icon charm, premium pass until December 1st 2016. However these operators were available to everybody if they purchased them with free renown they got from playing matches (Around 150 if you lose and around 300 if you win) these operators cost a large amount but its not impossible as I did it myself to unlock Capitao.
Tumblr media
In July 2017 Alpha packs were introduced. These unlocked through a sort of roulette wheel at the end of a winning game. The pack (if landed on a white bar you built up by playing games) contained cosmetic headgear and weapon skins until this season where Jager received a legendary uniform in Legendary Alpha packs. These packs are blind luck and you never know what they contain until you open them. If you have the season pass the pack percentage gets a 0.30% boost and when losing it goes up by 1.5% and when winning 3%. (Of course not including the additional bonus for season passes) these can be bought for varying amounts if Renown
Tumblr media
These season passes continue until this day with free content such as maps, cosmetics and operators being released. (8 a year) As of writing this Grim Skies (Year 3 Season 3) is ongoing and the game is definitely had a few bumps this season with the introduction of Clash who's nerf patch hasn't been released at the time of writing.
And now the siege history lesson ends and my opinion begins. I LOVE Siege. I play it basically every day and never seem to tire of this. But I don't think that's just because of me being some addicted fan boy. I think that the reason Siege has become so popular and developed such a massive community is because the huge comeback it had. It was originally a huge failure with players leaving in mass. Thousands of videos on youtube pointed out its massive flaws until instead of abandoning it... Ubi started work. Bug fixes, anti cheat, graphics improvement. You name it, if the community asked Ubi delivered and they still do to this day. Even refusing to change Tachanka despite his huge meme status as being terrible simply because fans love him that way even releasing a cosmetic bundle called "Lord Tachanka" a huge fucking meme amoungst the community that the devs love too which just shows how tight knit we are as a game. While they did take a while to do it during the big Hack period they fixed that for fans and announced they would do so even before the big Youtubers jumped in on it.
Tumblr media
Ubi revived Siege. And I can never really express just how thankful I am for that in words. I love this game and I can't wait for the next season or the next game.
Gameplay:
Now it's time to talk about the gameplay Holy shit is this fun. When something goes well and your team just clicks you forget you're playing a game. You're a squad of 5 elite special forces soldiers who's training has lead to an unstoppable wall of fire as your tear through your enemy and it only gets better when the enemy does so too. The rush you feel when a 1v1 comes after a long gun fight is tense and nerve-wracking as you feel your whole team watching you or calling info on cams or drones (More on that later) winning is satisfying and losing is crushing but you still don't want to give up. Because you know that with the right team and the right strats you can wipe the floor with even the best of players.
Games tend to last around 15 minutes in casual with three rounds won being the win and up to 30+ in Ranked. Each round has a drone phase where little black RC drones race around the map looking for the objective while defenders quickly reinforce the room with defences such as metal wall reinforcments, barbed wire, deployable shields, nitro cells (C4 explosive) and your defenders personal gadget. You then have 4 minutes to either complete the objective as Attackers or wipe the enemy team and vice versa as defenders.
Tumblr media
There are currently 18 maps in Siege such as, House, Oregan and Presidential Plane with another map planned next season. My personal favourite is Clubhouse.
Tumblr media
On your gun you can add various attachments such as scopes, grips and compensators. But it's hard for me to talk about that since it's mainly personal preference I almost always use Reflex but most like the Acog scope. Here's a list of what attachments you should put on guns according to Varsity Gaming who you should check out for tips and info on actual mechanics such as damage drop off on guns.
Tumblr media
This brings us nicely to spawn peaking. Since defenders spawn 45 seconds prior to Attackers and there's fixed spawns Defenders began opening windows to shoot people as they exited a spawn area most prominently Jager and Bandit. This resulted in their Acog scopes being removed and eventually all Acog scopes from all 2 speed and 3 speed defenders giving a large advantage on the Attackers side as in long range encounters the 2.5x zoom of an ACOG will help massively. Here's another link to a video which marks all things removed or nerfed to the current date. It's still a sensitive topic today as spawn peaking still exists but you're much more likely to miss someone or get killed yourself when you do it.
youtube
10 years of content has been announced but people do still doubt it but personally I think it can be done. Considering we're about to enter year 4 and the game is only growing in popularity I see no reason why it's going to stop any time soon. Especially now its practically one of the biggest Esports perhaps only being outdone by League and Dota with Overwatch declining it its recent years.
Tumblr media
Not to mention the huge profit they overturn in cosmetics Ubi made pro league and elite skins, the later of which unlocks special MVP animations when equipped and winning as the largest point scorer.

How to Play the game
Now let's discus the gamemodes. You have Casual and Ranked with Custom matches and Terrorist hunt being less of a central focus and an offline Situations mode for beginners to practice.
Casual matches assign random spawns, random defence points and has a cap limit of 5 rounds with a winner being declared after someone reaches 3 otherwise resulting in a draw which effects nothing and gives bad rewards considering you just both basically won.
Ranked gives you a choice of spawns, defence points and caps at 9 rounds with a winner either being declared at 4-2> or having to go to a 5 after it reaches 4-3. After winning a defence location defenders who won may no longer use that defence point until it reaches the overtime tie breaker rounds of 4-3 onwards where everything resets basically. Drone and round times are the same however for both casual and Ranked if an objective is being complete such as Hostage being extracted, Defuser is being/ is planted or Securing objective/contesting then like casual the timer will never end until someone either leaves the room or dies. If a user leaves a ranked match their space is never filled nd they receive a ranked match ban for 15 minutes which increases each time and leave penalty
All game modes feature a DBNO (Down but not out stage) where you will be knocked to the floor and a large + icon surrounded by a white circle slowly being ticked away by a red line creeping across will appear. Your vision will be impaired and movement reduced to a crawl. You will produce a blood trail leading the enemy to you if you crawl away. You can press and hold to stop movement but hold the blood in giving you more time to wait for a teamate to come help you up. Any damage you take will probably kill you and all revives (except Docs stim pistol and Finkas adredinal surge) will get you back up on 50 health and must be done when right next you the only exception to these rules is Zofia and Doc who can get themselves up if Doc has a stim left and Zofia needs no help at all and after a brief 5 second animation can get up on 1 health and continue to fight.
Gamemodes in Ranked and Casual are:
Hostage: Hostage must be extracted from defence point and taken outside to a red flare where you will extract him/her and win you can as with teammates kill the hostage instead of the minus 100 points and ban (and an additional -100) for killing two teammates like you may expect you're hit with an instant -500 points and an almost certain ban if you're not careful. And since Renown is given based off of points this will likely screw you out of any renown if you lose the match and don't receive the +2000 points for winning.
Tumblr media
In Secure area you must enter the room with the container automatically beginning to secure it simply by being in the room however. A loud siren goes off wherever an enemy enters with a large "Contested objective" appearing above the icon that goes through walls for both teams if a defender is inside and a "Securing..." if not.
On Bomb there are two sites near eachother [A] and [B] with Attackers having to enter the room and plant a single defuser given to one member at the start of the round taking 7ish seconds to plant and 40ish seconds to defuse the bomb entirely however the bomb defuser can be destroyed by the defence team by approaching it and holding the button to defuse with the same 7ish seconds needed to defuse however during this time the defuser still continues to tick down and can pass the threshold of defusing the bomb while a defender defuses resulting in an attacking victory.
All of these gamemodes are 5vs5
Terrorist Hunt:
Terrorist Hunt features a range of difficulties: Normal, Hard and Fucking impossible (Realistic). These missions can either be done alone or with a team. Depending on difficulty team friendly damage is reduced so I'd recommend Team play if you want a lot of renown for not very much work at all.
Situations:
These missions have fixed objectives and must be done alone in single player. After completing all situations that teach you how to play you may take part in Article 15. A difficult mission in a realistic difficulty where you and 4 others must defuse 2 bombs inside the map Bartlett University with heavily obscured vision in yellow clouds filling the map obscuring enemies and the bodies that liter the ground.
Custom Games:
These allow modifiers for a 5vs5 with friends or less even allowing you to explore the map alone. You can change health, timers such as increasing defuse time, drone time, match time and the amount of rounds. You can even turn on pro league settings to have a tournament with your friends.
Shop:
Siege has an in game shop where you can purchase the previously mentioned elite skins and various other items such as weapon skins, Pro league sets and weapon skins, charms and even the glorious Lord Tachanka sets.
Final thoughts and review:
Siege is in my opinion one of the greatest FPS games of all time. It has incredible fans, Gameplay is smooth and fun and most importantly tense. If I could play just one game with all of you then you'd know how big a difference one person can make each match, how much communication changes the game and how often friends tk each other for cheesy spiderman jokes.
I highly recommend you purchase it. Or play a free weekend. With a starter edition being so cheap right now especially when a sale comes on the only real reason to avoid the game would be the toxic team killers we have. But since the new tk ban changes I've been teamkilled only 12 times. 2 by friends, 7 accident and three being toxic players. That's not however saying it doesn't happen. But trust me. Your teammates will straight up slam the fucker who does it. I don't think I've ever been killed in a ranked match except by Mira mains who want their walls or accidents especially at the higher ranks. I hope this helped you either get a look into my perspective on Siege. Or perhaps convinced you to give it a chance or reinstall. Trust me. Give it a chance like I did and you'll never regret it.
