INSIDE JULIETTE KING'S MODERN, TWO BEDROOM, TWO & A HALF BATHROOM, GOTHAM PENTHOUSE.

note: juliette's apartment is very modern, & sits on the 35th floor of her building. the elevator does not lead directly into her apartment due to safety issues her mother had concerns about when they were looking for a place for juliette to live. that is a great part of the reason why they chose this one.

FIRST FLOOR:

living room: juliette's living room has a wall of windows in the back left corner. above the sitting area is a modern chandelier. she has two couches, & two sitting chairs. in the corner of the windows is a modern sculpture. she has a piano as she took piano lessons growing up, she rarely plays anymore, although she does have a decent skill.

kitchen / dining area: juliette's apartment is an open floor plan. when you walk in the front door & turn to the right you will see her kitchen. most of her furniture is black / sleek / modern. juliette is not much of a chef at all, however she can cook homemade pasta ( her one go to recipe ). in her kitchen she has an espresso machine & takes her coffee as an iced americano with honey & oat milk. her dining area is directly next to the kitchen & seats six people ( plus the three barstools ).

office area: the stairs to the second floor are near the kitchen / dining area. behind the stairs sits the office area. juliette has a long desk ( wasn't one long enough in the sims so ignore the two desks pushed together ). juliette has two computers & a bookshelf in the office area. she has a desktop & a laptop. her desk is fairly disorganized, with her materials spread throughout the desk as she stays up into late nights either doing law school work ( past tense ) or working on research. in the corner of the office she has a pile of files, most of which tie back to her father. these get locked away in a hidden safe in her desk when people come over ( the code is completely randomized, & she resets it every month ).

guest bedroom: the door next to the office leads into a simple guest bedroom. it keeps the black & gold themed guest bedroom. the bathroom contains a shower / bath combo. juliette rarely has guests stay over, when she does it's usually members of the batfam, or influencer / socialite friends of hers if they are too tipsy for juliette to feel comfortable sending them home.

( the bottom floor also has a half bathroom, the door is also near the office ).

SECOND FLOOR:

landing: the landing looks down into the living room & kitchen. you cannot see the office, or dining room from the landing.

lounge area: juliette is not a big fan of television but finds herself sometimes wanting to rest & watch comfort movies. ( i got lazy here, so it's not decorated ).

juliette's bedroom: juliette's bedroom is very much white & black with small silver accents. her bed is in the center of the room & she has a few black & white art pieces throughout. on her dresser is a pack of cigarettes as well as muscle relaxants that she has a slight dependency on. she also has more documents in regards to her father, her mother, the court of owls, & so on. in the corner of the room is a file box she keeps. she keeps her bedroom locked whenever she leaves, as well as the front door ( obviously ). her room has a mixture of industrial & modern feeling to it.

juliette's bedroom, con't: juliette has a walk in closet with a head to toe length mirror. it is filled with close ( not seen here ) both custom & store bought clothing / shoes. she also has a bathroom with a few plants / art pieces.

Hi I'm wondering if the reason why Contessa, Baby Monty Claudio, and Olivia were killed off and why Viola was deleted was that Maxis throught there were too many premade Sims in Veronaville. Veronaville is the most populated Sims 2 hood with about 25 Sims but with those Sims intact the number would be 29. Maybe Maxis didn't think that players would want to play in a neighbourhood that big? Another I think would be to create more drama for the player to be invested in. What do you think?

Hi! I can't say for sure why the devs chose to kill off or delete all of those sims, but I do have a few theories.

My best guess would be that it's related to the fire during development. In this case, I think it's possible that some of the data was lost, and the devs decided to cut their losses as opposed to piecing everything back together.

Another guess would be that some sims, like Viola, were deleted to save space. I'm not a whiz with this kind of stuff, but I would assume that blank character files take up far less space on a computer than character files with bundles of information. While this doesn't serve to explain why Contessa, Claudio, and Olivia were killed off, it might offer an explanation as to why Viola was part of the mass deletion, as well as why a lot of ancestors are nowhere to be found in the neighborhood. This could also explain why Claudio and Olivia's third child isn't programmed into the finished game, as Olivia's pregnancy is strictly cosmetic in an unmodded game.

In terms of saving space, I have a couple of theories as to why Tessie, Dio, and Livia were the ones to get the axe, though they're admittedly shaky. With Claudio and Olivia, it could have been so Romeo's living situation better mirrored Juliette's. As for Contessa, one of the matriarchs in Romeo and Juliet dies during the play, so her fate could be a reference to that (despite the fact that Lady Montague is the one who dies offstage, rather than Lady Capulet). At the same time, Contessa dying might be a reference to King Lear, who dies after Cordelia in the original Shakespeare play.

I definitely think it would have been interesting to see how the dynamics would have played out had those sims, and others, been present in Veronaville. While I'm perfectly fine with what we got, a part of me can't help but wonder who the mystery guests at Claudio and Olivia's wedding were, or how Viola's presence would have altered the narrative as we know it, or why Olivia's next birth might have pushed her over the edge.

Jeanne Jacquemin, c 1893

Jeanne Jacquemin (Marie-Jeanne Coffineau)  was born in Paris in 1863 to Marie Emélie Boyer and was adopted by Lord Juliette Boyer and Louise Coffineau in 1874. However, details of her upbringing are sketchy and conflicting, and it isn’t known what formal training she may have had in drawing, painting or print making.

In 1881 she married a naturalist illustrator (who was also an alcoholic), Edouard Jacquemin.  After they separated Jeanne lived with engraver Auguste-Marie Lauzet in Sévres on the outskirts of Paris, from about 1893. Through both Jacquemin and Lauzet she met a number of artists (including Puvis de Chavannes) and poets and developed an interest in Symbolism and the occult.

She first became known as a writer, when from June 1890 onwards she wrote commentaries on a number of writers and painters of the time for Art et Critique – she was particularly interested in Symbolist and Decadent literature. Many of the themes and images that she referenced in her writing appeared later in her own pastels.  (Approximately 40 of the works that she exhibited during her lifetime were pastels, and unfortunately few remain.)

Like many other Symbolists, Jacquemin saw a close correlation between literature, music and the visual arts. She responded to the poetic and mystic delights of the texts in her commentaries, saying that “her ear keeps the music of poems long after the reading“. She also wrote that “I see images [from the poems] mount before my eyes” and that she wanted to “try to fix some of her visions“.

From 1892,  with other Symbolists and Post Impressionists, she participated in a series of Peintres Impressionnistes et Symbolistes exhibitions, which were held between 1891 and 1897.

The catalogues of these exhibitions show that Jacquemin was both well represented and well received by some of the most significant critics of the time. Rémy de Gourmont from the Mercure de France wrote that her “overall effect produces something that is full of the new” with traces of “dreaminess” in blue-green luminosities” and impressions of “androgynous figures left to float like the unhealthy, yet adorable haze of desire around those heads so infinitely tired of living“.

Gourmet compares the dreaminess in her work to fellow Symbolists Gustave Moreau and Odilon Redon, and her work is similar in style to  Puvis de Chavannes. There is also an echo of Paul Gauguin in some of her works.

Most of her paintings can be easily identified by the sad figures – usually waif-like or gaunt women in anguished or dreamlike states – which appear to haunt her paintings. She mostly used subdued tones in her pastels which adds to their subtlety .

Daydream (or Reverie), above left,  appears to be typical of her work, with a solitary, somewhat melancholic or pensive, figure set in front of a landscape. Blues and purples feature in the background, as do the  strawberry blonde hair and blue-green eyes, which are thought to be similar to the artist’s own features. Does the use of the garland of flowers suggest a Christ like quality? It was not unusual for her male Symbolist counterparts to explore the theme of the self as Christ, and Jacquemin may have also chosen to do so. The second image above ( La Douloureuse et Glorieuse Couronne) is certainly suggestive of this motif, with the crown of thorns and eyes raised to the heavens.

  One critic, writer and poet Jean Lorrain, was particularly taken by Jacquemin’s art, that he felt might be used to mirror his own interests, which also included the occult. As a result, they collaborated on a short story, Conte de Noel. Written by Lorrain and accompanied by five lithographs by Jacquemin, it was published in 1894. Lorrain’s support for her during the 1890s may assisted in her public recognition. For example, in 1893, she was invited to represent France in the tenth Les XX exhibition in Brussels, where she showed five works. Unfortunately, the close relationship between the two deteriorated and her reputation suffered as a result.

As well as her paintings, Jacquemin also produced a number of charcoal drawings and prints (lithographs) which were not as widely exhibited.

Perhaps the best known is a colour lithograph, Saint Georges, c 1898, which appeared in L’Estampe Modern that year. The description of print in the magazine read,

“This print represents the young and valiant knight of Cappadocia, sweet as a virgin but strong as a lion, who is described in the Golden Legend as fighting and killing the dragon who was preparing to devour the daughter of the King of Libya. Thus, this heroic character inspired the traditions of many peoples, and since the time of the Crusades he has been known as the patron saint of the armies”.

  It has been said that many of her works are self portraits, and there is certainly a similarity in the facial structure in a several of the paintings and prints shown on this page. Even the Saint Georges lithograph appears, if not female, at least androgynous.

Not a great deal is known about Jeanne Jacquemin or her work from the late 1890’s onwards. After nursing Lauzet until his death in 1898, she married Lucien Pautrier, and perhaps she chose to no longer exhibit, or it may have been the acrimony between herself and Lorrain (including a very public law suit) and the death of Lauzet which resulted in her being hospitalised for a short time that led to her being less interested in art. She divorced Pautrier in 1921, and married occultist Paul Sédir later in the same year, suggesting that she maintained her interest in the occult throughout her life time.

Jacquemin is thought to have died in 1938.
