Depending on her mood, she’d ignore you/say things under her breath or be “fake nice” as a form of being the bigger person

Has a curly hair routine that she consistently follows (after struggling to find the right products to make them flourish) and gets annoyed with if her curls don’t turn out the way she knows they can, it’s always frustrating when things don’t turn out the way you want them to but isn’t afraid to at least try

Because I know folks who went into the field before an ALA-accredited MLIS was the prereq, I vaguely considered a library-related alt-ac career (along the lines of "this seems interesting, I like books?") fresh out college. LOL NO that plan is scuppered! I recently floated the fantasy of becoming a school librarian to my SO, who asked why not; I had to explain, well, I'm not going back to school for both an MEd AND an MLIS... You're right. That kind of debt, for that kind of pay? MAKES NO SENSE.

Like the only real saving grace is that if you're US-based and work for a public library, public school, or other government-funded institution, you can qualify for public service loan forgiveness? Maybe? After 10 years of payments... if you do it right. I've honestly just accepted the fact that I'm never really going to own a home or have money or any of that nonsense lmao

Also, I'm not sure about the regulations and standards everywhere, but for the US, most school librarian positions only require the MLIS and a teaching certificate which took most people in my program like one extra semester. I decided not to go for it because I was planning on doing the PhD (and also I likely would end up in a public library as a teen librarian if I left academia), but it didn't seem too bad if you were already going for the MLIS. Like, was my high school librarian one of my favorite people in the world? Yes. Are we still friends to this day? Yes. Do she and the teen librarian from my public library still fight over who gets to buy me lunch whenever we get together? Also yes. And she was amazing, and I'd love to be like her if I ever become a librarian (or like my teen librarian who is also one of my very good friends) but also like... if I stay in school forever, I can ignore my loans menacingly accruing interest and keep deferring my payments on them 😂
