WoW dev allegedly fired by Blizzard for making jokes about capitalism

Eric Covington, a writer for World of Warcraft, claimed that they were sacked by Blizzard because "lampooning corporate greed" gags they had written were found in the MMORPG. The former World of Warcraft developer claims that they wrote many lines for a loot goblin character that discussed "profit sharing," "hazard pay," and purchasing a yacht. They also claim that they are "no longer at Blizzard" as a result of "their embarrassment." Covington claims that they “wrote jokes lampooning generic corporate greed for a Venture Company loot goblin.” These jokes were added to WoW, but allegedly discovered by Blizzard “leadership.” “Leadership walked face first into the joke after string lock while my focus was getting the patch done,” Covington claims. “Because of their embarrassment, I’m no longer at Blizzard.” Lines from the loot goblin allegedly written by Covington include “another record quarter for revenue,” “let’s call this a cost-of-living adjustment,” “no profit sharing,” and “looks like another yacht for me.” Covington alleges that “no consideration” was offered with regards to the intention or target of the jokes. “No consideration or trust extended to at least ask me what my intentions were for the character,” Covington writes. “Was it targeted at anyone? Nope.” The developer also claims there was “no polite request to let me handle it and hotfix some lines because of circumstances. I would have willingly and understandably helped.” Covington also claims that they were fired from Blizzard soon after the jokes were discovered. “Nine years of service up in smoke without question because someone looked at an innocuous joke and saw a reflection,” the developer says. “They made sure to hustle and get me out before the end of the month in full knowledge that benefits would expire the next day.” PCGamesN has contacted Activision Blizzard for comment and will update this story with any further information.           perhaps it was UNUSUAL but celestia was almost excited that komaeda was staying here over break as well. at least it meant that there was SOMEONE here she vaguely related to. not that she was planning on being around here a whole lot -- but it was still good. such is why she lets out a little HUM as she spots him sitting in one of the common room areas. normally she would linger in her room, but for now she walks closer only to settle upon one of the plush seats with that perfect posture. a SMILE graces her features as she looks at him.

“You have too many clothes,” he said, sitting in a pile of fabric that had been pulled from hangers, and picking at a particularly sparkly piece. “You don’t actually *wear* all of these, do you?” (From Juuzou~)

Jolted from the midst of contemplation concerning a pair of slacks, Potya’s blue eyes shifted to where Juuzou was seated nearby. “Too many clothes isn’t a thing.” Making the snap decision that the piece in hand belonged on the other end of the closet, he set about situating it just so. “You don’t know when you’ll want to wear different things, or when you might figure out a way to use them with new outfits.” It hardly seemed worth discussing. If it wasn’t a widely accepted fact, then it should be. “I don’t wear them all equally, but I wear them.” Some far less than he might prefer to admit to, given the vein of the conversation, yet nothing in his wardrobe had been unworn, at the very least.

“Why? D’you want me to model them for you?” A playful grin slowly overtook Potya’s visage. Perhaps he was more invested in the craftsmanship aspect of fashion, but he was well aware of how to ensure his clothes looked good ( and that he looked good in them ). However, a new idea rushed to the forefront of his mind, causing him to turn on his heel and assess Juuzou for a brief moment. “It might be more fun to dress you.” As Potya crouched in front of Juuzou, his gaze was tinged with an eager spark. “Let me. You’ll get what I mean about clothes once you know it’s like to feel powerful wearing them.”

That might not be enough of a draw all on its own. “There could be candy involved, potentially, y’know. Some could’ve gotten left in the pockets.” Entirely implausible, as he would never leave food where it could mar the fabric; still, he could slip something in and allow Juuzou to find it, if it would make their experiment more enjoyable. “Betcha you’ll like it more than you think.”

THE SCHOOL

Just outside of New York City, there is a private college-level school that is only open to those that can afford it (or those that have earned it through a rare scholarship.) The school offers a college education to ages 18+, luxurious dorm rooms, a spa, fitness center, pool, lounge, game room, library, plenty of parking space and of course free wifi.

While it may seem like it’s all fun and games, they take their school (and their privacy) very seriously. The gate around the entire school grounds requires a School ID card to unlock, as well as the dorms, each amenity, the cafeteria, and the school itself.

They don’t typically have a problem with sharing photos, and social media, as long as it’s done with discretion. Since they take in some high-profile students, they try to keep any embarrassing or troublesome material from being leaked, but that doesn’t mean things don’t slip through the cracks now and again.

Hyun Ryu, also known by the stage name of Zen, is twenty-five years old and teaches drama at Covington Academy. He helps out with the music and drama clubs, offering aid and input when needed.

Growing up, Zen’s family was quite conservative, his parents being teachers and his older brother working as a lawyer. During his younger years, he was harassed by strangers as they followed him to touch him or take pictures of him. He would often be treated poorly by his parents, specifically his mother, who questioned who he got his looks from and frequently called him ugly. She would forcibly cut his hair short, as well as other forms of physical and emotional abuse, causing a rift to form between the two. Zen would often confide in his older brother, who would explain that his mother was only saying those things to ‘protect him’ from being used by others due to his handsome appearance. She also wanted him to think that he wasn’t handsome, as she feared he would follow the steps of her nephew and other handsome men in becoming unscrupulous and damaging the family name.

As he entered middle school, Zen gained a boost in confidence due to his looks, and he began finding his passion for acting and music, to which his mother strongly disagreed, believing that he should become a doctor or lawyer like his brother. During these years, he found out that his older brother had started siding with their mother for him to drop his silly hobby and diligently study to become successful like him. Due to this betrayal in conjunction with years of abuse, Zen dropped out of school and ran away from home, renting an apartment andbarely surviving with the rent while working small jobs here and there. Early on, he even resorted to actions he’s now deeply ashamed of to survive, including threatening people for money.

However, it was during his late teens and early twenties that everything finally began to pay off. Zen was discovered by a talent agency and signed to their management; he soon began to take on more roles and became known as a rising star in musical theatre. Amidst rave reviews for his performances, he continued to work diligently to disprove rumors that his success was mainly attributed to his looks. Through a charity organization Zen was a part of, he met his boyfriend, a ballet dancer with considerable abilities of his own. The two moved in together, and are in a strong, long-term relationship. When Zen was offered a position as a teacher at Covington Academy, he was hesitant to accept. However, did so after realizing that he could help and encourage other young people who struggled as he did.

On the surface, Zen is known for being very charming and flirtatious. He will often talk about his looks, praising and complimenting himself for how attractive he is, as well as how talented he is when it comes to singing and acting. Despite this, Zen is very loyal and empathetic, especially to those he cares about. In contrast, deep down Zen doubts himself, wondering if people only see him for his looks, rather than his talents. Much of his complimentary sentiments stem from his past. Never has he had anyone to support him; thus, he does it himself. Although prone to this habit, he also tends to dole out kind words to others regularly. His career is one of the most important parts of his life. Passionate and driven, Zen always strives for roles which cause him to grow his skills and applies the same to his teaching.

18 years old. Majoring in Art. Earned a Scholarship with a lot of help from School Guidance counselors tbh.

Growing up, Jack had a pretty normal childhood: the only son to two pretty successful business-people; neither too poor or too rich and not much at want for anything. It wasn’t until he entered his second year of High School however that everything changed—while on a business trip overseas, his parents got caught in a terrible accident while on board their flight and perished, leaving him orphaned. He had no other family living in the states and the only other living family he had that he knew lived in South Korea; which happen to be his Aunt and Uncle ( Zen’s parents ), so Jack was initially put into the Adoption/Foster Care system. It only took him a few months – and one temporary home that didn’t work out – before he left to try and make it on his own.

School was immediately put on the back burner, although he tried his best to still attend; if only because it would help him eat at least once a day. Before the accident, he was a decent student; but as one can imagine, his grades began to slip slightly as he was forced to take care of himself. College wasn’t even initially in his radar as he approached Senior year, but with the persistent prodding and encouragement from his guidance counselor and a teacher, he applied to a couple of schools. Originally, Covington Academy was more of a joke than a serious investment, but after gathering together a portfolio and filling out the application, he was shocked to find that he was accepted with a scholarship that covered his expenses; making it the only logically choice he had in terms of schools.

It’s extremely easy to feel out of place in a school like Covington, with students who seemed to have more money to their name than Jack ever had; but he’s trying to make it work. It feels a bit weird to try to consider this place home, but… well, living in an dorm with an actual bed while having easy access to the dining hall makes it the most comfortable place he’s been in for the last couple of years. So, he’ll make the best out of the situation.

celestia ludenberg was born as taeko yasuhiro in france. she lived alone with her mother until she was six. her mother wasn’t rich, but they lived happily and this part of taeko’s childhood was peaceful, filled with the music that her mother taught and the love that was sent her way. her childhood was good up until her mother passed away from sickness -- and taeko was sent to live with her father in japan and things quickly went south.

by day her father was a simple business man, but at night he delved deep into the gambling underworld. he had no desire to have a daughter so he dragged her down with him and began throwing her into games until he realized that she won every single one. he pushed her more and more and used her for her winnings and it warped taeko into an angry and bitter person until she was forced into realizing that these people got off on her anger. so she taught herself to hide everything and lie her way in and out of every day.

when she turned sixteen her father died in a fire that was ruled to be an accident, and she disappeared - never to be seen around there again. she took her winnings and fabricated a whole new identity for herself : celestia ludenberg. with a perfectly forged birth certificate which stated she was a relative to nobility she moved onto america as a calm and poised girl who still absolutely destroyed in the gambling dens. 

her eyes were fixated on covington academy when she finished high school -- distinctly because of it’s elite status. she did not need a further education with her gambling, but she decided to apply to the drama program with the skills she had earned through gambling all of these years. she’s there mostly for connections and finding dirt on people that she can use. but despite her cold demeanor and temper, more lingers beneath that she is reluctant to ever show. she does not involve herself in any clubs because she’s a bit of a lone wolf -- but she sometimes shows up to things that have to do with trivia or games.
