You gotta teach me how to use tone tags correctly 😭😭 I feel like I don’t know what half of them mean + use them incorrectly
There r so many and they can be so confusing…………. I went around using /gen as /gentle for like a year before I realised🥲🥲(it’s actually /genuine)
but tone tags tone tags forever I love tone tags!!!!! I wouldn’t be able to survive on the internet without tone tags. Here are the ones I use the most often:
Warning this ended up longer than I expected…….
/j: joking -
use when you’re making a joke, or saying something jokingly/playfully that could be misunderstood as serious
/hj: half joking -
use when you’re. Well. Half joking about something
/srs: serious -
Use when you’re serious about something/not joking
/lh: light hearted -
I’m honestly not sure how I should explain this…….. you use it when you’re. Being. Light hearted??? Idk I’m sorry it’s just muscle memory for me at this point
/ref: reference -
Use when you’re referencing something. A movie, game, meme, book - anything that you’re referencing
/lyr: song lyric -
Use when you’re quoting a song lyric
/q: quote-
use when you’re quoting something- book, movie, video game, meme, whatever
/nf: not forced -
Use when you suggest something, or ask something, or anything like that but want to clarify that you’re not forcing the person to do it
/nm: not mad -
FUN FACT I JUST GOOGLED THIS ONE TO MAKE SURE I GOT IT RIGHT AND I HADN’T. I USED TO THIBK THAT IT MEANT /NOT MEAN. WELL
but use when you’re talking to someone and want to clarify that you’re not mad with them, or making a joking comment that appears harsh/mean and could come across as you being mad
/p: platonic -
Use when you want to say that whatever statement you’re saying is in a platonic way, ex saying “I love you” to friends
/r: romantic -
Use when you want to say that whatever statement you’re saying is in a romantic way
I HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE!!!!!?? Those are just the ones I personally find the most useful, but there are loooaads others!!!! Here are some places w more information if you wanted it:
Uhm. Yeah. I use tone indicators with pretty much anyone who isn’t a close irl friend (ofc I use them w them too, but they usually know me well enough to know what I’m saying/mean at any point) because they make everything so much easier!!!!!!!!! Especially for me!!!!!!!! I don’t get online interaction etiquette, I’m constantly afraid of coming on too strong onto mutuals/afraid of people misunderstanding me, and I don’t really understand things over text. it’s annoying lmao,, tone tags saved my life!!!!!!!!!! Looooove stacking tone tags at the end of a sentence to make sure I’m not confusing 💞💖Hope this was helpful!!!!/gen
#UHHHMMM SORRY IF YOU WANTED A SHORTER EXPLANATION 😶😬 but yeah. Embarrassed that I only now realise I was using /nm incorrectly after#3 years on the Internet#ask#TONETAGS4LIFE

May i ask a kano x gender neutral reader who os Very clingy
Thank U aaa
(Defaulting to hcs bc you didn't specify/nm but if you'd like a scenario too just let me know luv/p)
Kano is already clingy as hell so he is in absolute bliss at you clinging to him!
In fact this would probably start before you even started dating just because he's clingy in general and especially once he started crushing on you he'd want to lay on and cling to you as much as physically possible.
He can and will whine/lh when you can't cling to him because you're doing something or if he has to do something that you can't cling to him during (RIP Kido or Seto trying to get him to do any housework while you're visiting </3)
While you're clingy a lot of the Mekakushi Dan is ALSO very clingy/p so you have to be down for the occasional cuddle pile with his siblings/friends too
Mary specifically will take any chance to simply lay on both of you like a cat and this is a plus because you now have a baby sister to cuddle both of you/p
"If you cling to each other while walking you're gonna fall over," skeptics say but depending on if one of you is small/light enough may I introduce you to the revolutionary concept of piggyback rides! Only cowards stop clinging when they're on the move/lh
If you're okay with PDA this will also lead to a lot of little kisses because he is a lovebug and also very sappy at all times
#kagepro#kagerou project#kano shuuya#mekakucity actors#shuuya kano#headcanons#(tone indicators explained: /nm = not mad /lh = light hearted /p = platonic)#kano learns to show physical affection both romantic and platonic and is like ok cool i will never stop doing this <3

Tone Indicators, a Masterlist
Tone indicators are shorthand for words used to convey tone, which the Cambridge Dictionary defines as "a quality in the voice that expresses the speaker's feelings or thoughts". Tone can do so much to change the meaning and implications of a sentence. The intended use of tone indicators is in text, and they are prevalent on social media where miscommunication is rife, and posts and messages are often misinterpreted. Tone can be especially difficult to parse for neurodivergent people. This is not to say that neurotypical people never misunderstand tone through text, or even face-to-face, because they do — but that neurodivergent people may experience and interpret tone differently. They are simply paralinguistic signifiers used at the ends of statements to help readers fill in the blanks. They can also be called written shorthand for the poster’s (OP's) intent and emotion.
It's entirely too easy to use them, simply use them after, or even before, the sentence that you wish to clarify. "Can you explain this for me? /gen"
I'm going to make a masterlist of all the tone indicators I've seen so far, adding some that aren't in popular usage, some I personally use with my friends, some that I believe should exist, under the cut. In some cases, I've seen multiple versions of the tone indicator, in which case I've put the more popular one first (at least by what I've seen).
Tone Indicators I've Seen Popularly Used
/j: joking "i'll have to deactivate my account now /j"
/hj: half-joking "we should definitely date /hj"
/s, /sarc, /sarcasm: sarcasm "i absolutely love being sad /s"
/srs: serious "i'm just so very tired /srs"
/nsrs: not serious "my leg's hurting a little bit but i'm okay /nsrs"
/g: genuine statement "i'm thankful that you're talking to me right now /g"
/lh: light-hearted "isn't is spelled 'unnecessary'? /lh"
/nm: not really mad or upset "i think you got that fact wrong /nm"
/pos, /pc: positive connotation "the movie's back on for tomorrow! /pos"
/neg, /nc: negative connotation "i have work tomorrow /neg"
/ly, /l: lyrics "she's a, she's a lady, and i am just a boy /ly"
/p: platonic "i just want to hug you /p"
/gen: genuine question "are you okay with me talking right now? /gen"
/t: teasing "it seems your sense of humour is horrible /t"
Tone Indicators I Haven't Seen Popularly, but I Have Seen, and Also Sometimes Use
/ref: reference "it's like none pizza with left beef /ref"
/nbh: nobody here, for vague mentioning "i'm just so angry at someone /nbh"
/r: romantic "i really want to cuddle with you right now /r"
/sx, /x: sexual intent (Used for sexual innuendos, or similar hinting)
/nsx, /nx: non-sexual intent (Used to clarify the lack of any such sexual intent in a statement)
/m: metaphorical "i was just swept away by a wave /m"
/li: literal "the fish was as big as my torso /li"
/ij: inside joke "it's a whale on dry land /ij"
/rh, /rt: rhetorical "who even cares? /rh"
/hyp: hyperbole (exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally) "i've told her ten thousand times to stop playing that song /hyp"
/c: copypasta (a block of text which is copied and pasted across the Internet by individuals through online forums and social networking websites)
/f: fake "i saw this post yesterday /f", which could be accompanied by an edited or modified post
/th: threat "i will get you to read that book /th"
/cb: clickbait "this website saved my life! /cb"
Tone Indicators I Use With My Friends, or Believe Should Be Mainstream
/a: affectionate "you're a bitch /a"
/q: quote "get up, get up, there are worlds to conquer /q"
/nf: not forced "do you want to go out with me today? /nf"
/pa: passive-aggressive "looks like someone has been talking to someone else behind my back /pa"
/npa: not passive-aggressive "i think someone has stolen my pen /npa"
