I think the vibes between prosecutors vs defense attorneys in Ace Attorney is incredibly funny. Most defense attorneys are pretty normal but then you get to the prosecutors:
Edgeworth is obsessed with the Steel Samurai, looks like a fucking zombie if you kill one of his arguments, left a note saying "Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death" not expecting people to take it as a suicide note then finding it weird when people get mad it him for leaving what FEELS like a suicide note when he goes to Europe, has staring contests WITH HIMSELF in reflective surfaces, and has a chess table set up to where it's just a bunch of Edgeworths surrounding a Phoenix, among other things.
MVK killed a man over a win record, reveals his ATM PIN in court, and suggests cross-examining a parrot and doesn't expect the defense to actually do it (despite having known Phoenix for more than a day AND PREPARING FOR IT). There might be more in Turnabout Goodbyes that I'm not remembering or more in Investigations that I don't know about because I haven't played Investigations.
Franziska became a prosecutor at the age of 13, has a perfect win record which means she won against ADULT DEFENSE ATTORNEYS in Germany for 5 years, carries a whip with her everywhere she goes, and gets upset when a 9 year old gets mad at her for prosecuting her cousin.
Godot allows himself SEVENTEEN CUPS OF COFFEE A TRIAL (how is he still alive, how has he not died from a caffeine overdose), was woken from a coma by the scent of coffee, usually reserves the pet name "kitten" for pretty women but calls a male defendant kitten multiple times, FLIRTS with the aforementioned defendant, assaults Phoenix with coffee multiple times, speaks in cryptic coffee metaphors all the time, and has such bad trust issues that he didn't tell Phoenix about a plan he made with Misty and Iris (and telling Phoenix about this plan could've cut down on the amount of bullshit that happened in Bridge to the Turnabout).
Klavier is a rockstar who acts like he's more focused on his music than being a prosecutor but actually isn't, is a perfectionist to the level that he got pissed about Daryan missing a cue and is so gay for Apollo that Apollo shows up and he lights up IMMEDIATELY, assumed Apollo set his guitar on fire, uses two massive speakers as desks in his office, has a floor to ceiling filing cabinet for some reason, and is somehow the more normal of the Gavin bros.
Barok is all but stated to be a vampire, HE HAS BATS IN HIS OFFICE, he's so particular about how his office is organized that he won't let anyone touch his chalices, wine bottles, or wine casks, he throws wine bottles into the gallery behind him, slams the prosecutor’s bench WITH HIS LEG if you upset him enough, accuses Ryunosuke of being the reason he smashes his crystal chalices, and does not seem to care about Ryunosuke taking a 10 year old to investigate a murder with him, among other things.
The Paynes (including Taketsuchi Auchi). Just everything about them all but especially the fact that they have some variant of "this man is the most incompetent prosecutor I've ever fucking met" in their court record profiles
I haven't met Blackquill or Nahyuta yet but based purely on vibes and what I DO know about them I'm assuming they fit into the "prosecutors are really fucking weird" trope Ace Attorney loves so much.
In comparison the defense attorneys are incredibly normal (although still not really normal) and it's hilarious

trick or treat (again!!!!)
send me a trick-or-treat and I'll write you a mini fic!
--
Edgeworth studies the mug. "It's very nice," he manages after a moment. "The handle is comfortable."
"But of course," Klavier purrs. "I was assured by the lady in the shop that it would be most suited for a man of your age and stature, da?"
"Indeed." He taps his fingers along the side of the mug, enjoying the sound of keratin against porcelain. "And the... word on the side?"
"No idea. English is not my first language. But you would understand it, I was promised." He grins, a million watt record-breaking smile. "Have a good day, boss!"
Edgeworth waits until the other prosecutor is down the hall before he gets up, locking his office behind him, and heads towards Phoenix Wrights. Of anyone in the building, this is the only man he can ask and trust to tell him the truth... and is also the only one remotely in his same age bracket.
"Wright," he calls, knocking on the open door frame to signal his arrival. "A question for you."
The defense attorney looks up from his desk, as well as his two office mates. "Yeah? What's up?"
Edgeworth clears his throat. "Do you think I am a... dee-eye-el-eff?"
Phoenix Wright goes as red as Edgeworth's favorite jackets, as Apollo makes a noise akin to a car engine trying to start when the exhaust pipe has been packed with peanut butter.
"A... DILF?" Wright wheezes.
"Apparently. I assumed you would know, being one yourself." He turns to Apollo and Athena who are in various stages of hysteria. "What?"
"I have to leave," Athena says, smothering cackles behind her hand, the other hand clutching her phone. "I'm calling 911, I can't handle this, I have to leave."
Suspicion sinks in, and Edgeworth frowns. "I see. I shall look up the definition myself, then--"
"No, no, no, don't do that, not on your work computer." This finally gets Wright to act, standing up from his desk as Apollo stumbles after Athena, gasping for air between splutters. "Jesus Christ. Okay. Give me the context, and I'll help you sort it out."

i love your klapollo ice skating au with all my heart!! do you have a particular story that goes with it?
ahhh thank you, I'm happy you like it!! And yes, I do! I actually have 3 different ideas and I havent fully decided which I prefer, so I'm just gonna talk about them all, but the beginning of each of them is the comic I made where Daryan made Apollo trip over his foot and ended up getting punched in the face So Apollo is a pretty skilled ice skater whos mentor is none other than Phoenix Wright of course lol Apollo hasnt entered any competitions yet, hes just doing this because its fun but everyone around him, especially phoenix, are trying to get him to enter a competition already but Apollo is like, nah, due to stage fright. So Klavier is a very popular ice skater who has won multiple competitions and also has some world records and he also was very impressed with Apollos skating when he saw him skating as seen in the comic only to then find out he isnt actually in any competitions?! Smh. Klaviers mentor was/is Edgeworth. So this is where the different ideas for how the story could go start. Idea 1: Klavier is ice skater for pair skating, but his partner he skated with got seriously hurt and is now unable to continue skating competitively. So Edgeworth and Phoenix both have the idea to pair these two up. So on one day Phoenix and Apollo are at the rink, Apollo practicing a new choreography and Edgeworth is there too, waiting for Klavier so they can introduce the two. And Klavier is then shocked to learn that oh wait. I have seen this guy before. And Apollo also recognizes Klavier and hes very much not amused because he just associates him with Daryan who he very much does not like. So yadda yadda, it takes a lot to convince Apollo to give it a try but in the end he gives in so Klavier and him start practicing and it does not go well at first because Apollo is very >:( about Klavier and Klavier is growing more and more frustrated too so theres. Some arguments. And a lot of bickering. But at some point they start spending more time together, realizing that they actually get along well which also reflects on their performance for their pair skating and when they manage to do the whole choreography successfully for the first time they naturally get very excited. And I guess later they enter competitions and they win with the power of homosexuality and they kiss and all. Okay I will try to keep it short for idea 2 and 3 because they are similar, in idea 2 Apollo and Klavier arent making a pair, they are rivals who enter single skating competitions and at the very end Apollo breaks Klaviers record plus snatches first place and for idea 3 Klavier ends up being Apollos mentor similar to yuri on ice. I really love the idea of Apollo beating Klavier in a competition but I also just love the idea of them skating as a pair and growing closer and closer to each other :")

The Edgeworths-Prosecutors office

Description: Edgeworth and his kids

“Mr. Edgeworth!” Kay screamed as she tackled him in a hug.
“Oof! It is good to see you again Kay. How have you been?” He smiled, awkwardly returning the hug.
“Good! Good! Is Sebby here? I haven’t seen him in forever!” Kay let him go and began scanning the room.
“Prosecutor Debeste is currently in the middle of a trial, however you can stay at the prosecutor’s office until he returns. I have some people I think you would enjoy meeting.” He turned around and waved at her to follow him.
Kay had spent the last few months abroad, helping Franziska and interpol. With the recent end to an investigation, Franziska and her had returned to LA. Franziska would be leaving again in a few days, she only had to retrieve a few files, but Kay was planning on picking up an investigation here. She really did miss LA and it’s prosecutors.
“So, who am I meeting? Is it “that man”?” She asked, doing a terrible Edgeworth impression. He rolled his eyes.
“No. We’ve acquired two new prosecutors I’d like you to meet.”
They climbed the rest of the stairs, with Kay telling him all about her time with Franziska. Apparently Franziska had been done with Kay’s antics after day two. So, she’d told Kay to just investigate on her own, that explained the call he’d gotten. Not long after the two had left, Franziska had called him to tell him he was insane, and nothing else.
“Now, they are a little strange to say the least,” Edgeworth said, as they approached an office. “I’ll introduce you to prosecutor Gavin first, he’s the more… calm of the two.” He muttered something else that she missed. “Prosecutor Gavin,” he said, as he pushed open the door. They were met with yelling so intense, she was surprised they hadn’t heard it outside.
“Herr Samurai while you have a point-”
“Gavin-dono your refusal is futi-”
“Oh my god! You’re Klavier Gavin!” Both men stopped yelling at each other and turned to the door.
Kay stood jaw dropped, pointing at Klavier, and Edgeworth just sighed. She ignored him and ran up to Klavier.
“I love your music! Can I get an autograph? Or better yet,” she fished around in her bag and pulled out a Gavineers CD, “Can you sign this?”
Klavier shook off his shock, and glared at Simon who had started snickering. He turned back to Kay and smiled, “Of course Fraulein.” Kay let out an almost deafening squeal. “And who am I signing it to?”
“Kay, Kay Faraday. I thought Sebby was lying when he said he worked with THE Klavier Gavin… I guess I owe him an apology,” she grumbled the last part. The two prosecutors were shocked when Edgeworth gave Kay a fond smile.
“Now,” he said, turning back to the two prosecutors, “What on earth were you two fighting about?”
“Gavin-dono and I were merely having a heated debate on whether Justice-dono would accept the proposal of a date with him,” Simon smirked, watching as Klavier’s face turned pink.
Edgeworth nodded, “Please keep these debates civil, or do not have them at all. But for the record, I’m sure Mr. Justice would absolutely accept the proposal of a date.” He smiled, before turning around to leave. “Do not cause too much chaos Kay, Prosecutor Debeste should be returning soon.”
“Yes sir!”

do you ever go into hyperfocus and come out having written a whole ass essay about how one of your favorite characters got fucked over by the narrative of the thing they’re in
anyways there’s a 728 word essay about why klavier is underappreciated below the cut
Throughout the narrative of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, the rival character Klavier Gavin is explicitly stated to be a prodigy. This statement is further reinforced by his behavior and dialogue within the game; his arguments are coherent and understandable, and despite his quirks he is a skilled orator. Despite this, Klavier and his potential development are routinely underestimated and dismissed, both within the game, by certain groups of fans, and by Capcom itself. This dismissal is a disservice to the complexities that could be explored within his character and backstory, especially considering that Klavier is a first for the series — he is the first prosecutor who starts off valuing the truth above perfection, and also the first prosecutor who never shows animosity towards the defense attorneys.
In order to understand why Klavier is so commonly dismissed by the narrative, one must first understand how his character is minimized and why this is important. During Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, which will be abbreviated as AA4 for the purpose of this essay, the titular character correctly implicates his boss, defense attorney Kristoph Gavin, for a series of crimes. Kristoph is Klavier’s older brother, and AA4 details how Kristoph used and manipulated Klavier to both cover up his own crimes and get Phoenix Wright, another defense attorney, wrongly disbarred. In addition, another person close to Klavier is exposed for a separate crime during the course of AA4. The events within the game are consistently and deeply traumatic for Klavier’s character, and yet they are not addressed at all within the rest of the series.
This lack of follow-up to or consequences for character trauma is not an uncommon occurrence in media, and would not normally be surprising. However, Ace Attorney as a series tends to address the trauma its characters experience, and especially when it comes to the characters in the “prosecutor rival” role. Miles Edgeworth’s trauma from the first game and subsequent development are important parts of the second and third game. The main prosecutor of the second game, Franziska von Karma, is afforded similar treatment and development. Even Godot, the third game’s main prosecutor, is given the kind of backstory that many culprits in the series are not.
And yet, the consequences of Klavier’s trauma, as well as his role in the disbarment of Phoenix Wright, are never addressed. In fact, he only makes one more major appearance after his role in AA4. However, his backstory and character have the potential for a lot of interesting conflict and development. The question becomes, then: why is Klavier’s character so ignored?
The first potential reason for this is the way Klavier is presented as a character. He manages two careers, one as a prosecutor and the other as a musician. Thus, he keeps up a rockstar persona, and his quirks and mannerisms makes it easy for him to not be taken seriously. Beyond his easygoing nature, Klavier is less visibly impressive than the other “prodigy” characters in the game. His dedication to the truth means that he lacks the perfect record of characters like Miles Edgeworth and Franziska von Karma. Additionally, although he became a prosecutor at seventeen, most of his appearances are of him as an adult, which makes him less traditionally prodigal than the other characters in this same category.
The second reason comes not from anything within the game, but instead from the behind-the-scenes development of the game. The writer and creator for the original trilogy, Shu Takumi, felt that the series was properly wrapped up after the first three games. However, Capcom wanted the series to continue, as it was extremely popular. Reluctantly, Shu Takumi wrote and developed both AA4 and the character of Apollo Justice. After this game, however, the development of the main games was transferred to a different writing team. This would explain why Klavier’s character doesn’t make many appearances after AA4 and why his backstory and trauma are never resolved.
Whatever the reason may be, it is unfortunate that Klavier’s character is not resolved within the series. He had the potential to be an interesting narrative foil for several characters introduced in later games, as well as continue to be a valuable supporting character in terms of his relationships to Apollo Justice and Phoenix Wright. And considering the fact that his brother is one of the best villains in the series, it’s especially disappointing that he never quite gets to reach his full developmental potential.

spare me a little (of your love)
summary: Klavier always liked to express his love with flowers, so sending a beautiful bouquet to his boyfriend every now and then seemed like the obvious thing to do. However, there’s just one little problem - Apollo is very, very allergic to pollen.
word count: 5.3k | read on ao3
a/n: For @klapollo-week, day two of seven (prompt: "flowers"). All seven of my fics take place in the same continuity! However, each can be read as a stand-alone, with the exception of day seven being a sequel to day five.
This fic takes place at some distant point in time after Spirit of Justice where Apollo and Trucy have learned that they’re siblings, but doesn’t reference any specific plotlines otherwise. My source for flower meanings can be found here. Fic title is from the song Spare Me a Little of Your Love by Fleetwood Mac.
“The language of...flowers?”
“Oui, oui, mon ami!” Athena chirped, nodding eagerly. “That’s just one of the many languages I speak, y’know.”
Apollo eyed her skeptically over the top of his laptop screen. “...right. Elaborate, please.”
“Well, you know how people usually give roses to express their love?” Athena said, leaning across the gap between their desks. She didn’t even blink when she accidentally knocked over Apollo’s calendar and pen holder in one fell swoop. Apollo, on the other hand, shot her an affronted glance that she deftly ignored. “Well, each flower actually has its own specific meaning. It even varies from color to color! Par exemple, white roses symbolize innocence, while yellow roses symbolize friendship.”
“That seems unnecessarily complicated,” Apollo remarked. “Don’t most flowers come with a card? Why can’t people just write their messages instead?”
They turned at the sound of a disappointed groan coming from the middle of the room. “You’re so unromantic, Polly,” Trucy complained, peeking at them from over the back of the couch. “I almost feel bad for Mr. Gavin!”
“Hey,” Apollo protested. “I can be - I-I’m romantic!”
“If you say so,” Athena giggled, poking him in the shoulder. Huffing, Apollo prodded her back. Athena reached for a rubber band, fully intending to escalate things. She lowered her projectile dejectedly when Apollo raised his hands in surrender; he had no interest in losing an eye today.
“Sunflowers and tulips are supposed to symbolize happiness, right?” Phoenix asked. “Those are pretty much the only flowers I really know, so.”
There was a long, uncomfortably drawn-out silence. “...Daddy, your ex-girlfriend’s name was Dahlia. Her real name was - is - Iris.”
“Oh...right,” Phoenix chuckled, only mildly embarrassed. “Speaking of, do you know what dahlias and irises mean, Athena?”
Athena’s eyes were practically sparkling now. “Oui! Dahlias symbolize elegance and dignity.” Phoenix made a face. “...but, they also symbolize dishonesty and betrayal.”
“That’s more like it,” Phoenix muttered under his breath. “And irises?”
“Faith, wisdom, that kinda thing,” Athena shrugged. She then paused. “Y’know, if you want some ideas on the kinds of flowers Mr. Edgeworth would like, I can make some - ”
“Nope, nope, I-I’m good,” Phoenix interrupted swiftly, his face reddening. He had a vase of daffodils sitting on his desk, which Edgeworth had sent to the office a few days ago. None of them believed Phoenix when he claimed they were purely intended for decoration. “So why the sudden interest in flowers, Apollo? Is this, er...is this about Gavin?”
“If you’re not talking about your prosecutor, sir, I’m not talking about mine,” Apollo said firmly, turning back to his laptop.
“Sure, except I think your prosecutor’s fair game when he picks you up from work most days,” Phoenix teased. His tone was eerily similar to Trucy’s. If Phoenix wasn’t both his boss and his sort-of stepfather, Apollo would’ve picked up a rubber band himself.
A few hours later, Apollo was locking up the office for the evening when he heard the roar of a familiar-sounding motorcycle coming up the street. He turned, biting back a smile as Klavier pulled up beside the sidewalk and turned off his engine. “Your bike really is as obnoxious as you are.”
Klavier removed his helmet, pouting. “Achtung, is that any way to greet your boyfriend?”
“It is for me,” Apollo replied, kissing him briefly. “Hi.”
“Hallo,” Klavier murmured against Apollo’s lips, grinning as he pulled away. “Dinner?”
“Yes, please,” Apollo said, reaching for Klavier’s spare helmet. “I’m feeling...pizza and all the cheesy garlic breadsticks. Or maybe we can just get cheesy garlic breadsticks.”
“As nice as that sounds, you need more vegetables than the little bits you get in your cup noodles, baby,” Klavier said, patting Apollo’s hip affectionately. “Pizza, breadsticks, and a side salad, ja?”
“Fine, fine,” Apollo grumbled, settling in behind Klavier. “Turn me into a rabbit, why don’t you? Buy me a bag of carrot sticks the next time we go to the grocery store. Stuff my mattress with straw and newspaper - ”
“And people think I’m the dramatic one,” Klavier lamented, shaking his head in amusement.
It wasn’t long before the two of them were sitting on the floor of Klavier’s living room, pleasantly stuffed with pizza and breadsticks and a mediocre amount of Greek salad (“I’m not a fan of olives, you know.” “Not surprising, since the color doesn’t work with your complexion.” “Klavier, I swear to - ”). A random made-for-TV movie was playing in the background on mute, though neither of them were particularly interested in watching it.
“How was work?” Apollo asked, taking a much-needed gulp of cold water. He wasn’t sure if he was ever going to get the taste of garlic out of his mouth.
“Boring, unfortunately,” Klavier said with a grimace. “Herr Edgeworth didn’t have anything but paperwork to offer me. No trials, no investigations, nichts. You?”
“Same,” Apollo replied. “Mr. Wright’s mostly working with Athena this month, so they’re taking the big clients while I get stuck with the smaller cases. Not that I’m complaining, I mean - it’s a nice change from Khura’in. I don’t want every trial to feel like I’m going under, you know?”
“Nein, that would be terrible,” Klavier agreed. “Exciting, sure, but the stress wouldn’t be worth it. I already found a gray hair the other day, ach.”
Apollo snorted. “Just one? You should see mine - I’m gonna be completely gray by thirty-five at this rate.” He shuffled closer so he could snuggle up against Klavier’s side, letting his head drop to Klavier’s shoulder. “So...turns out, Athena knows all about the flower language thing. Figured she might.”
“Flower...language...thing?” Klavier echoed, confused. He then brightened. “Ah! From our video call with my mama the other day, ja? I didn’t know you were actually interested.”
“I wasn’t, not at first,” Apollo admitted, squeezing Klavier’s arm. “But...I want your parents to like me, and since she said she was taking an interest, I thought, y’know, why not look into it? And it sounds kinda...contrived, not gonna lie. But I guess it’s kinda sweet, too. Like a secret language between just two people.”
Klavier’s face softened. “Ja, exactly. My parents used to write love letters to each other when they were in school, so I think this is Mama’s way of starting a new tradition - buying Papa flowers so he can plant them in his garden. You should see our family estate in the summer, it’s absolutely stunning.”
“Sounds like it,” Apollo said, smiling. “Your parents’ lives sound so...peaceful. Baking, gardening, travelling...I know it’s a little early to start thinking about retirement, but still, they’re living the dream.”
“They’re not retired yet,” Klavier chuckled. “And stop making me feel like I’m dating an old man, bitte. You complaining about your back makes me feel like I have to start complaining about my back.”
Apollo hummed, tracing random patterns along Klavier’s forearm with his finger. He was pleasantly sleepy from a number of things - his long, if uneventful day of work, the amount of cheese and carbs he’d just consumed, and the warmth of Klavier’s skin against his. “Sorry we can’t all afford chiropractors and massage therapists, sheesh,” he teased, unable to hold back a yawn.
“Maybe we can get a massage together someday,” Klavier suggested, stretching luxuriously. “Ah, before I forget - since we were talking about my parents just now, they asked me the other day if it would be alright to text you and send you things, little gifts and whatnot.”
“Huh? They would do that?” Apollo exclaimed. “I only just met them, like, a week ago!”
“They’re a bit...much,” Klavier said carefully. “Even when I was in high school, every friend I brought home was a potential lover to them, you know? They wanted to know everything about them, to shower them with gifts and affection. Even when I started working, I would ask Papa if I could have some flowers from his garden - you know, an arrangement to thank Herr Edgeworth for giving me a raise, a bouquet for my manager when we got our first record deal - and it was always the same story. Achtung, it’s embarrassing, but they mean well. You don’t have to say ja if you don’t want to, I just thought I’d ask.”
“No, I - it’s okay, I’d love to get to know your parents more, I’m just surprised,” Apollo admitted. The thought of them liking him this easily made him both relieved and unnerved at the same time. “Should I, uh, get them something in return?”
“Nein, nein, let them spoil you.” Klavier cupped Apollo’s face in his hands, kissing him softly. “Just like I do.”
“Sap,” Apollo murmured, kissing him back.
_____
It was a sort of gradual thing, for the most part. Barely a day had gone by when Apollo found himself in a group text with Klavier’s parents; he quickly discovered how witty and sweet and whip-smart they both were. Klavier’s father sent gorgeous photos of his garden - and calling it a garden seemed almost too modest when it seemed to be the size of a soccer field - while Klavier’s mother sent book recommendations, even the occasional movie recommendation.
“I never thought I’d be at that point in my life where my boyfriend’s mother sends me three long paragraphs about how she ‘discovered’ the Legally Blonde musical, but here we are,” Apollo had mused to the other agency members.
“Did you tell her that Klavier reminds everyone of that song, the one that goes - ”
“No, Athena, I did not. I want her to like me, remember?”
Soon after that, gifts started to arrive. Apollo had requested they send them to the agency, given how little he trusted his apartment building’s security after they nearly let his cat escape not too long ago. Unfortunately, it was too late before he realized that sometimes, he trusted his co-workers - or more specifically, his sister - even less.
“Trucy, do you know who ate the last piece of pie? Y’know, the one I was saving for today, to celebrate the end of my trial?”
“...huh. No idea, sorry, Polly!”
“Wait - th-there’s graham crumbs on Mr. Hat, what the hell - ”
His sister’s betrayal aside, Apollo felt good about things, almost unusually good. He soon started texting Klavier’s parents just as frequently as he did his own mother, thanking them for their generosity whenever they sent the occasional box of pastries or discounted event tickets. They also exchanged anecdotes about Klavier, along with stories about their own lives. He even received celebratory emojis whenever he told them about his victories in court - over their son, no less.
“I’m starting to think they like you more than they like me,” Klavier had lamented, though he seemed pleased all the same.
Then, a month into their budding familial relationship, a problem arrived on Apollo’s desk in the form of a bouquet the size of his head.
“Ah-choo!”
Trucy and Athena, who had been standing by the latter’s desk, both startled at the sound. “Ay Dios mío!” Athena exclaimed, clutching her heart in shock. Are you okay, Apollo? That was some sneeze. I thought we were having another earthquake!”
“Har, har,” Apollo said dryly, reaching for a tissue. “It’s just the - achoo - flowers, that’s all.”
“They’re beautiful - very classic,” Athena added, dropping into Apollo’s desk chair so she could get a closer look. “Red roses and white lilies, claro. Ooh, I see some red carnations and white chrysanthemums, too!”
“Well, I see a card,” Trucy said, plucking a small white notecard from between the leaves. “Let’s see what it says!”
“That’s for - achoo - me, thank you very much.” Apollo snatched the card out of her hands, then squinted through his watery eyes to read it. “I...oh. Klavier says his mom helped him make the arrangement, with flowers from his dad’s garden.”
“How sweet!” Trucy gushed, taking a moment to sniff them, inhaling deeply as her eyes drifted closed. “Ooh, and they smell amazing. Mr. Gavin is such a good - ”
“Ah-choo!” Apollo sniffled, wiping his nose carefully. “...dammit.”
“I didn’t know you were allergic to pollen, Apollo,” Phoenix commented; he was on the other side of the room, pouring himself a cup of tea. “You never had any problems with the flowers Edgeworth sent to m - I mean, to the office.”
“Maybe it’s a freshly-cut thing?” Athena guessed, ignoring Phoenix’s awkward laugh. “Or, y’know, some flowers are worse for allergies than others. Dahlias, for example, are the worst.” Phoenix made another face before turning back to what he was doing.
“You should tell him you’re allergic,” Trucy said, patting Apollo’s free hand in sympathy. “I’m sure he’d understand.”
“But…” Apollo hesitated. The others braced themselves, anticipating another sneeze. “...this is from Klavier and his parents, you know? I can put up with a sneeze or two if it makes them happy. He loves sending flowers, and his dad’s really into gardening, so...if I tell them, they’ll stop doing it, and they’ll be too understanding, and I - I can’t deal with that. The, uh, the niceness, I mean.”
“Poor you, having the sweetest in-laws in the world,” Athena teased, pouting exaggeratedly. Oh, the humanity, Widget added. Apollo would have glared at them both, had he not started sneezing again. “Como tú quieras, I guess.”
Hours later, when Klavier met Apollo at the agency, the sight of his face brightening when he saw the bouquet confirmed Apollo’s fears. “Ah, how wunderschön,” Klavier declared, beaming. “I was worried they wouldn’t hold up during delivery. Do you like them, liebe?”
“They’re beautiful,” Apollo said, as honest as he could be. “Thanks, Klavier. I, uh, I hope it didn’t take you too long to put together.”
“You know how picky I can be,” Klavier hummed, carefully drawing a carnation out of the vase between two practiced fingers and bringing it up to his nose to smell. “I don’t settle for anything less than perfekt.” He turned, smirking. “That’s why I’m dating you, after all.”
“Gross,” Apollo said, wrinkling his nose; the effect was ruined by his affectionate laughter. “Hey, is it okay if I press them after they’ve wilted? I was thinking I could keep ‘em in my journal as a nice little reminder.”
Klavier chuckled, reaching over to squeeze Apollo’s hand. “Of course, Forehead. They’re all yours, you don’t have to ask for my permission. And I’m sure Mama and Papa would be delighted to hear you’re planning to give Papa’s flowers a second life. We’ll have to send you more in the future, ja?”
“...ja,” Apollo said weakly, his heart sinking.
_____
The next bouquet arrived two weeks later, bigger and bolder than before. According to Athena, it consisted of pink and orange roses, pink lilies, and yellow alstroemeria. However, it seemed to be the handful of sunflowers that topped everything off that left Apollo’s nose running all day.
“I think the only sunflower I can stand to be around is my attorney’s badge,” Apollo had bemoaned.
After that came an arrangement of white daisies, red gerbera, and white limonium (or, as Trucy liked to call it - she liked practicing tongue twisters when she was bored - “linoleum”). Then green hydrangeas and Queen Anne’s lace, which admittedly wasn't so bad, followed by purple daisies and pink gerbera, which was very, very bad. Apollo did not like the fact that he was getting used to the taste of Benadryl. He did manage to get some reprieve when Klavier sent him a simple vase of pink peonies.
“They’re hypoallergenic,” Athena had informed him. “But...mein Gott, Apollo, just tell him already!”
“But if I do, i-it’s…” Apollo had gestured wildly, unable to find the right words. Athena and Trucy had exchanged glances, then shook their heads in eerily synchronized disappointment.
Pink carnations and pink alstroemeria, purple irises and white aster, yellow daisies and orange roses; Apollo was starting to think the Gavin family garden was endless. And while his journal had never looked prettier, every page decorated with carefully pressed petals, every other page detailed with a date and a description courtesy of Athena’s expertise, his nose had never looked worse, his skin pink and dry and irritated. He was getting too used to the smell of CeraVe as well.
Finally, a bouquet of red roses - thankfully, also hypoallergenic - arrived with Klavier himself. He seemed delighted to be at the agency while everyone else was present for once, chatting happily with Athena and marvelling at Trucy’s card tricks. He and Phoenix seemed awkward around each other, though Apollo supposed that was to be expected. Even now, they hesitated whenever Apollo brought the other one up.
“So what’re you doing here, Mr. Gavin?” Trucy asked after she’d successfully duped him three times in a row. Apollo had to stop her before she started charging him for it. “Is it date night?”
“Not exactly,” Klavier said, turning to Apollo. “I came here to ask you something in person, liebe.”
Apollo raised an eyebrow. “Well, that’s not suspicious at all. What’s up?”
“I think it’s about time you meet my parents in person.” Klavier took both of Apollo’s hands in his, smiling hopefully. “So, if you’re ready...are you free this weekend? We could go to my family estate, spend the day - Mama would love to teach you how to make those puff pastries you like, and Papa wants to show you around the garden so you can see where all your wunderschön flowers came from.”
“I...oh.” Apollo’s face fell for a split second before he quickly regained his composure. “Sorry, Klav, that sounds incredible, but I-I was gonna stay with Mom this weekend. Maybe another time?”
“Natürlich,” Klavier replied, still smiling. While his smiles usually made Apollo feel warm and fuzzy, now all he was feeling was gnawing guilt. “Let me know when you have a free weekend, ja?”
“For sure,” Apollo promised, pecking him briefly on the cheek. “And thanks for the roses, even though I, uh, kinda ruined the occasion.”
“Ruined?” Klavier repeated, chuckling. “Ach, it’s no big deal, you’re busy. We have time, don’t we?”
“Of course!” Apollo exclaimed, far too loudly. Klavier didn’t seem to mind, though; he leaned down to kiss Apollo properly, humming all the while.
“Anyway, I should get going before Herr Edgeworth notices I’m not in my office,” Klavier said, reluctantly pulling away. The look on Phoenix's face suggested he knew that Edgeworth had figured it out long ago. “Auf Wiedersehen, süßer!”
The second Klavier left, Apollo let out the breath he’d been holding. He didn’t even need to look up to know the others were staring at him very judgmentally. “...I don’t wanna hear it.”
“You really shouldn’t lie to your boyfriend, Apollo,” Phoenix said gently; his voice had taken on the sort of “dad” tone that made Apollo feel even guiltier. “Er, that is, you shouldn’t lie to anyone, but you know what I mean. Are you really protecting his feelings by doing this?”
Sighing, Apollo collapsed into his desk chair, dropping his forehead to his desk with an audible thunk. “I know, I know. It was stupid from the start, but...I-I honestly wasn’t expecting him to send this many! I thought it’d be, y’know, for special occasions only, like every few months or whatever. Then I could deal with it, and he would never have to know. Not, like, just ‘cos he felt like it. Though I guess I really should’ve seen it coming, knowing him.”
“You really gotta tell him,” Trucy insisted. “Next time you see him, okay? Or else you’re never gonna say anything!”
“I will, I swear,” Apollo insisted, combing his fingers through his hair. He could feel more grays coming in by the second. “I have no interest in being the worst boyfriend ever, believe me.”
_____
It didn’t take long for Apollo to realize that while he was perfectly fine - or, at least, reasonably fine - with confrontation in the courtroom, he was very much not fine with confrontation in his personal life. The flower arrangements came less frequently now, and when they did, they seemed to be exclusively hypoallergenic. Klavier’s invitations, on the other hand, seemed more persistent.
“I don’t mean to push,” Klavier would say. “It’s just that exam week is coming up and, being professors and all, they’re going to be very busy soon. I was hoping we’d be able to spend some time with them before then.”
“Yeah, o-of course,” Apollo would reply, his stomach twisting every time, knowing full well he was about to turn him down again.
Another weekend went by, then another. There always seemed to be something, whether it was Apollo’s sudden frequent visits to Thalassa’s, Trucy’s sudden need for a magic show assistant, or that Apollo was just too tired to be good company. Eventually, Klavier seemed to simply stop asking. In fact, he seemed to stop asking him about anything at all.
“Do you wanna grab lunch?” Apollo had once asked Klavier while they were both packing up after the end of a lengthy trial.
“I don’t know.” Klavier had sounded tired, subdued; he refused to look Apollo in the eyes. “I think I’m just going to head back to the office and catch up on my emails. Take care, Herr Forehead.” He’d quickly swept out of the courtroom before Apollo could even say goodbye.
Apollo’s group text with his parents seemed to slow down, too, especially when it came to Klavier’s papa’s photos of his garden. Klavier’s mama, on the other hand, sent him short, stilted messages, now seemingly out of obligation instead of affection. Their near-radio silence, Apollo had to admit, was well-deserved. He knew he had to do something before it was too late, if it wasn’t already too late.
“I was surprised you wanted me to join you today,” Klavier said one morning as the two of them were taking a leisurely stroll around People Park, hand-in-hand. “Lately, I feel like I’ve been dating a ghost, achtung. We only ever see each other in court. Maybe at crime scenes, too, if we’re lucky.”
“And I’m surprised you agreed to come,” Apollo admitted. “I missed you, Klavier. Only...I, uh, I know that’s really my fault, not yours.”
“You do, do you?” Klavier sounded bitter. His grip on Apollo’s hand was looser than usual, like he was ready to pull away at any second, like he wanted to run. The thought made Apollo’s chest ache. “And here, I thought you were as oblivious as ever.”
“Hey,” Apollo protested, frowning. Then, he sighed. “No, you - you’re right. This is on me. Will you - I - listen, I have something for you, back at the office. Can we go get it before you head to work?”
Klavier nodded shortly. While his eyes had softened, his smile was still strained. “Ja, let’s go.”
Thankfully, the agency was empty when they got there, save for a certain something sitting patiently on Apollo’s desk. He set his bag down, then turned on all the lights, his heart pounding rapidly against his ribcage. “So these aren’t as nice as your dad’s, but, uh. This is for you...and your parents.”
“What do you - ah!” Klavier approached Apollo’s desk with wide, disbelieving eyes, his gaze fixated on the beautiful arrangement of white lilies, yellow tulips, and white orchids wrapped in white decorative tissue paper. “Apollo, these are...they’re lovely! Did you pick these out yourself?”
“Athena helped,” Apollo said, hovering nervously. “She said white lilies are for humility, yellow tulips can mean forgiveness, and white orchids symbolize strength. Fitting, since I wanted to...apologize. For being a horrible boyfriend.”
“I don’t know about ‘horrible’,” Klavier said, gently running a finger down the length of one of the orchids. “...but you have been distant. If you’re not actually interested in meeting my parents, or if you...if you want to end things, just say so, will you?” His voice cracked. “I might like a bit of drama every now and then, but not in my own life. Not in my own relationship.”
“What?! No, no, I-I don’t wanna end things at all!” Apollo exclaimed, his voice filling the room. He took a few deep, even breaths to calm himself. “Just...will you hear me out? Please?” Klavier nodded, though he refused to look at him. “I’m...I’m sorry for avoiding you and your parents. And before you ask...yes. I was doing it on purpose. It’s nothing that - none of you did anything wrong, okay? It’s me, i-it’s - it - I - ah - ”
Klavier turned on his heel, worried. “Apollo? Are you - ”
“Ah-choo!”
Klavier jumped. “Ach - Apollo?”
“I forgot there were asters in there,” Apollo grumbled, reaching for a tissue. He wasn’t sure which was redder now, his nose or his cheeks. “It’s - I - achoo - ”
“Apollo,” Klavier said slowly; if Apollo didn’t know any better, he would've thought he was trying not to laugh. “Are you, by chance...allergic to pollen?”
Apollo sniffed sharply. “...yes, dammit, yes! That’s literally what I’ve been trying to say - achoo - just now, until - achoo - my sinuses decided to - achoo - speak for me!” He was half-doubled over at this point, clenching a fistful of tissues in both hands.
“Baby, have you been rejecting my invitation to meet my parents because you’re allergic to all the flowers we’ve been sending you for the last several weeks?” Klavier sounded more incredulous than angry.
“...yes. Yes, I have, yes, I’m an idiot and an asshole and - achoo - I’m so sorry, Klavier, I - achoo - ”
“Bitte, say it, don’t spray it.” Klavier held up Apollo’s tissue box for him, keeping it - and Apollo himself - at a good distance. “Mein Gott, Apollo, I thought you wanted to break up with me! Why didn’t you say anything earlier?!”
It took another minute or so before Apollo finally stopped sneezing long enough to get a full sentence out. He sniffled again, wiping his nose completely clean. “...have you ever told, like, the tiniest lie to make someone happy, only for it to turn into a big...thing? And then you know you have to come clean, that it’s what you’re s’posed to do, but the thought of doing it makes you anxious, even if not doing it also makes you anxious, and then...it just...it, uh, it stays with you.” He swallowed thickly, shaking his head. “Not that that’s an excuse, it’s just - that’s just what happened. I’m sorry, Klavier, I really am. I really do want to meet your parents, they’re so sweet and friendly a-and funny, I’m just...I’m bad at this. Really, really bad at this.”
Klavier sighed. Apollo held his breath, anticipating the worst. Then, Klavier wrapped him in his arms, letting out another sigh of relief. “I understand, liebe, and...I forgive you. Danke for explaining yourself.” He kissed the top of Apollo’s head. “Maybe we should’ve stuck to sending you pies, ja?”
Apollo laughed wetly. “I don’t know how you’re joking right now. That’s usually my job.” He lifted his head from Klavier’s chest to look up at him with a grateful smile. “I really did love the flowers, you know. When they weren’t attacking my respiratory system, that is.”
“Still, let’s not push it any further,” Klavier said wryly. “Now - two things, if you don’t mind. First, let me give you some moisturizer for your poor, poor nose. I’m not kissing you until I’m sure your skin won’t flake off in the process.”
“Ew, thanks for the gross visual,” Apollo grimaced. “And the second thing?”
Klavier smiled. “If you're alright with it, I’d like you to tell my parents what happened...in person.”
_____
The garden was just as beautiful as Apollo imagined it to be, given the dozens and dozens of photos he’d gotten from Klavier’s papa. It was full and lush and vibrant, with towering trees that provided ample shade, a beautiful gazebo with a built-in fireplace, a gorgeous two-tiered fish pond, and of course, a plethora of flowers, as far as they could see. Everything was especially beautiful, in Apollo’s opinion, from the relative safety of the conservatory.
“We’re not throwing you to the wolves, darling,” Klavier’s mama insisted, as if she were talking about actual wild animals and not her husband’s hobby. “We’ll stay in here for high tea so you can admire the garden at a safe distance, yes?”
“Yes, th-thank you,” Apollo stammered, relieved. “High tea?”
“Today’s menu is German chocolate scones and mini-sandwiches. With the crusts cut off for my fussy baby boy, of course,” she added, pinching Klavier’s cheek with a devious grin.
“Mama,” Klavier protested, embarrassed. His papa chuckled, settling into the chair across from his son; he still had a smudge of dirt on his nose. “I’m a grown man, achtung. I have my own health insurance and everything!”
“I really am sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Gavin,” Apollo said sincerely. Despite their kindness and generosity, he was still somewhat intimidated by them, by how tall and beautiful and well-spoken they were. As much as he didn’t want to think about his former boss, Apollo could see where he and Klavier got their good looks and charm from. “I wanted to make a good impression, but I, uh, I didn’t go about it the right way. I’ve been wanting to meet you for a while now, but...I kept it from happening for a dumb reason, and it led to me hurting your feelings and Klavier’s feelings. I’m sorry.”
“All is forgiven,” Klavier’s papa insisted, waving a hand. “Just promise you’ll stop by every now and then, alright? Our doors are open to you, Apollo. Consider us your parents, too, if you’d like.”
Apollo smiled softly. “I would, sir.”
“It’ll be a good, allergy-free time, I promise,” he continued with a teasing wink. “We’ll bake some bread, watch some home movies...are you interested in seeing - ach, what do the kids call it - Klavier’s ‘goth phase’?”
Apollo’s mouth dropped open. “...his what.”
“Papa, nein,” Klavier whined; he really did sound like a child now. “Maybe it was a mistake to bring you here, liebling.”
“Oh, I disagree,” Apollo said, his grin widening. “I would love to see Klavier’s goth phase. Did he dye his hair?”
“Oh, did he,” Klavier’s mama said slyly with the exasperated sigh of a parent who had dealt with too much. “It’s a miracle he managed to get back to blond at all.” She then got to her feet, smoothing out the front of her apron. “Anyway, Papa and I should go check on the scones now. You two sit tight, okay?” Before Apollo could blink, she’d dropped kisses on both his and Klavier’s foreheads, then disappeared down the hallway and into the kitchen, her husband in tow. He turned to look at Klavier, who was watching him nervously.
“I love them,” Apollo admitted. “They’re so sweet, Klav, they - stop looking at me like that, will you?”
“You can’t blame me for worrying,” Klavier said, kissing him briefly. “But I’m glad to hear it. Ich liebe dich, schatz.”
“Love you too, dork,” Apollo murmured against Klavier’s lips. “...so. Did you have a lip ring, or snake bites, or - ”
“Get out of my house,” Klavier huffed, pinching Apollo’s arm with an exaggerated pout.
“Hey! This isn’t your house, it’s your parents’ house, and they said their doors were open,” Apollo teased, laughing. Rolling his eyes, Klavier pulled Apollo into his arms, the two of them snuggled up on the loveseat. In the distance, they could see birds and butterflies fluttering among the flowers, a stray squirrel or two sniffing curiously at the edge of the fish pond. It was peaceful, serene. If it wasn't for the pollen, Apollo could see himself staying outside for hours at a time. “...but seriously, I’m looking forward to the video evidence.”
“I’m sure you are,” Klavier sighed, giving Apollo one last kiss before his parents returned with a large tray of sandwiches, scones, tea, and a vase with a single red rose for decoration - hypoallergenic, of course.

a/n: Welcome to my second entry for Klapollo Week 2021! Continuity-wise, this is the fourth of seven fics, but again, there is no need to read the others to follow each fic on its own. Today, I have projected my allergies and anxiety onto Apollo, because that's what fanfiction is for, right? I hope y'all like my version of the Gavins; I've written them as cold and distant a couple of times, but I usually prefer to write them as warm and witty so that Klavier has a good support system in his life.
Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed! Likes and reblogs would be much appreciated. Hoping you're all safe and healthy and doing well ❤️

DadWorth AU: Part 2 (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney)
More DadWorth AU! And here we finally get into the details of the games, so the parts that remain the same will be briefly touched upon. This is gonna be longer than the last post, so here we go!
< Part 1 | Part 3 >
Turnabout Sisters
Things actually start a bit before the game does, and its with Kay at age fourteen and ready to start high school. (to me her birthday is in December, so she would be fourteen by the time the school year begins). And she has a certain one in mind.
I’ve mentioned before that Kay ends up idolizing Mia and follows her cases. Being surrounded by law for the past couple of years and wanting to help people (because Kay has yet to learn about the true Yatagarasu), Kay decides that she wants to be a defense attorney like Mia as opposed to a prosecutor like her dad and Miles (I am one of few people that I think subscribe to the idea of Defense Attorney!Kay... but that’s where we’re going here.)
Miles hestiates when he learns that Kay “wants to be a lawyer”, but after pressure from both Franziska and Gumshoe, he agrees to the idea. After studying and working hard, Kay ends up getting accepted to Themis Legal Academy in the defense attorney course -- something she hides from Edgeworth because she’s afraid that he’ll disapprove. But this is something that she really wants to do. i have an idea, shhh--
So, Kay’s first day of school just happens to fall on September 6. If anyone recognizes this date, it means Edgeworth is going to be home late, as he almost always is when he’s working on a new case. Because this is where we hit Turnabout Sisters.
Kay’s first day of school goes pretty well. It’s all getting to know you stuff, so it’s gonna be easy. Everyone tries to keep Kay from finding out about the details of Edgeworth’s newest case throughout the course of the day, but this fails because Miles doesn’t know that Kay looks up to Mia. So he gets very much confused when she gets upset upon learning Mia Fey had been murdered when he goes about their usual conversation about his latest case the next morning.
So, she’s upset and Miles has no idea why. On his side, he finds out the defense attorney for this case is Phoenix Wright. So he’s not doing so well because the past is coming back to bite him in the butt, and Kay goes to school feeling like crap. And things only start to get worse from there when two students in the prosecutors’ course decide its a good idea to mess with one of the students in the defense attorney course.
Enter Sebastian Debeste and Klavier Gavin. (i know klavier’s a good guy, but he still needs the character development to happen) They are not the nicest of people when Kay first encounters them. She’s down, and they decide its a good time to kick her while she’s down.
She confides in this to Ema, who gets super mad about this. She knows that she needs to tell an adult about it, so she somehow manages to tell Gumshoe about this (how they know each other, i’m not sure, probably happened after she met Kay.) And then Gumshoe goes to Miles while they’re investigating the next day and tells him that Kay’s been having a tough time adjusting (Ema had left out the bullying bit, since Kay had made her promise not to tell, thinking it would make things worse.)
Miles takes things into consideration a little bit (he’s too focused on his case), and promises to pick Kay up from school the next day if Gumshoe drops her off (an idea that came up from Gumshoe mentioning it would be a good idea to have someone she trusts there after a bad day.)
The date is September 9, Gumshoe drops Kay off at school as planned while Edgeworth goes to trial. And everything for both of them goes downhill from there. Edgeworth gets his ass handed to him by Phoenix and gets his first loss. Kay’s bullying continues. Too absorbed in his loss and the repercussions of it, Miles forgets about Kay entirely. Kay’s left outside of Themis, heartbroken and her trust in Miles barely even remains. After about an hour or so, she calls Badd to come and get her since she knows he’ll always be there if she needs him.
Miles hears Kay come home, and gets confused when she runs past him and up to her room. Badd explains everything and how Miles is an idiot.
So, Badd’s pissed at Edgeworth. Gumshoe gets mad at Miles when he finds out about what happened with Kay. von Karma is pissed at Edgeworth for losing at case to a rookie of all things. Kay’s upset with him because of what happened. Franziska’s mad at him on both fronts. The media is having a field day with his record being broken. It’s the second worst day of his life.
Turnabout Samurai
So, time goes on since the horrible, no-good very bad day. Miles is trying to deal with everything and everyone being mad at him. He’s becoming emotionally unavailable and Kay’s not helping at all since she’s pulled away from him. Since he forgot about her, she thinks he doesn’t care about her anymore. She just stays out of his way.
Miles is emotionally out of the window and does just what he needs to do to keep Kay happy or so he thinks. He’s too absorbed in his work and stressed out from his previous loss to try and reverse the damage caused to his reputation. Meanwhile, Kay’s bullying at Klavier’s and Sebastian’s hands continues. She doesn’t know what to do about it (even though Ema continually tells her to tell someone, Kay doesn’t want to make things worse.)
Things come to a head for her right around the same time that Edgeworth gets assigned the Steel Samurai case against Phoenix Wright. Kay’s absolutely done with Sebastian’s and Klavier’s treatment of her and remembering Ema’s words, she acts.
Kay ends up punching Klavier in the face when he pushes her over the edge, much to everyone’s surprise. They both get dragged down to the office by a teacher after the fight escalates a little (if it even can be called that, only physical blows traded was Kay’s punch.)
They’re in trouble, they start arguing over who started it, etc. The teacher (who I should note is Courte) puts an end to it, believing that they are both to blame for what happened -- Kay for retaliating the way she did and Klavier for antagonizing her in the first place. With the principal’s agreement, both of them are sent home for the day after their guardians are called.
For Kay, she immediately gets called back by Edgeworth while waiting. Edgeworth is in the middle of the Steel Samurai case, so he can’t do anything. He actually grows irritated over what Kay did, not listening to her explanation over what happened and only saying that they’ll talk about it when he gets home. Kay tries to find someone else who
Meanwhile, Courte takes Klavier aside and tries to find out what happened to cause the whole mess in the first place. Something got into his head that this was how it was supposed to be with defense attorneys and prosecutors (what this is or who that was that planted it is up for debate). He’s told that he’s wrong. They’re both on the same sides of the law, and they’re both there to find the truth -- not to fight about it until there’s a victor. They are allies. Not enemies.
And then Klavier comes back and overhears Kay’s conversation with Edgeworth with Courte’s words echoing in the back of his mind. Klavier’s just like... “okay, she may be a defense attorney, but i don’t think she’s that different from me at all”. Kristoph is a terrible guardian, but the only one that can take care of Klavier, and he understands a bit of what Kay is going through right now because of that.
And immediately feels like shit for how he treated her prior. So when Kay goes to apologize to him from ya know... punching him, it’s him that starts apologizing. And after a very, very long conversation, they decide to start over and Klavier invites Kay to eat lunch with him and Sebastian the next day and even offers to see if he can get her a ride home. Kay reluctantly agrees.
And so their friendship starts there.
It takes Sebastian a bit longer to warm up to Kay like Klavier has, but eventually takes to her when she doesn’t hesitate to point out the mistakes he makes. She corrects him without missing a beat. Kay’s not hesitant to call him out on bullshit when needed. As a result, Sebastian’s a bit smarter than compared to canon.
So, the chaotic duo of Ema and Kay grows to include Klavier and Sebastian. (ema has no reason to hate klavier yet, that’s not until phoenix is disbarred if my theory is right, but his attitude does tick her off sometimes).
Things are starting to get better for Kay, that’s for sure. Miles, on the other hand... not so much.
We all know what happens with him. Unnecessary feelings, questioning just about everything that you know and who you are, etc. This doesn’t go unnoticed by Kay, who wants to try and do something to help. What that is, though, she doesn’t know yet.
Turnabout Goodbyes
Winter break is coming up, and it’s pretty clear at this point that Sebastian and Klavier (the latter moreso than the former) are in tight with Kay and Ema. Kay wants to do something to fix her relationship with Edgeworth, leading to a suggestion of being honest with him about how she feels. If he listens (unlike their guardians), then that means things could turn around.
Kay declines this idea as the first thing they decide Kay should do is tell Edgeworth that she’s in the defense course. She’s still wary about what he might say or do if he finds out she’s going to be a defense attorney rather than the prosecutor he thinks. She does, eventually, agree to talk to him about how she feels. Confessing to being in defense does still linger in the back of her mind.
Christmas starts to draw nearer and nearer, and the two usually spend it together (a tradition born from the first one they had. As bad as that time of year is for Miles, he tries to not let it show for Kay’s sake. Kay doesn’t know about DL-6 and he wants to keep her as far away from it as possible.) So Kay is confused when he heads out Christmas Eve.
Kay has no idea who to turn to... except for one person. So, Christmas morning, while Gumshoe does his best when it comes to figuring out the truth with the investigation, Kay runs all the way down to Wright & Co. Law Offices. (Edgeworth had talked about Wright before in conversations that Kay overheard. That, and it was talked about that he was the only one who managed to take down Edgeworth at school.)
This is the first time that Kay meets Phoenix face-to-face, so he’s pretty confused about as to why a teenager is banging down his door on Christmas asking for help. But, he’s not someone whose going to say no, so he and Maya head down to the detention center with Kay.
Imagine their shock when they learn that the person Kay was talking about is Miles Edgeworth. Who immediately turns around and refuses their help. At all. Because he wants them as far away from this as possible.
Phoenix and Maya leave with Kay, and two out of three are not about to give up so easily. So, yeah. Kay’s finally part of the main storyline.
She helps Phoenix and Maya on their investigation and in the process does learn about DL-6. And her heart just breaks when she learns that her guardian went through all of this. Which is why Kay is relieved when Miles finally
In the meantime, Phoenix and Maya are trying to figure out what Kay’s connection to Edgeworth is since neither of them explained. And all they can get Gumshoe to say is that Kay is someone that knows Miles rather well. (something that’s supported with Kay knowing about Edgeworth’s fear of earthquakes.)
Kay’s in the audience during this case, primarily because Miles expresses that he doesn’t want her anywhere near von Karma (especially for something that would technically be her first trial). But she’s also not going to leave, so she just watches. Kay gets excited when Phoenix starts tearing von Karma’s case apart. (at this point, Kay only vaguely knows von Karma from Reminiscence. She knows that he’s Miles’s mentor and nothing more than that.)
She helps with the DL-6 investigation. The one thing I should note surprises her the most about it is the date which it takes place. Added angst for this whole case (primarily comes from my headcanon birthday for Kay) -- It’s revealed that Miles was careful on December 28th to not let Kay know what was going on with him since it was also her birthday.
Kay has only known Larry for two days, and he’s already giving her a headache (and making her question how Miles and Phoenix are friends with him a little bit). But she’s super excited that he was able to help in the end. She also finds the story about the class trial super sweet, remarking how it reminds her about how Edgeworth used to be like when they first met.
She ultimately is incredibly worried about Miles as the case goes on. Especially with how he thinks that he killed his father. The man Kay knows would never do that -- even on accident. She wants to help as much as possible, even if she can’t stand with the defense. She also wants to stick it to von Karma after everything he’s done. Especially after the confrontation in the evidence room, where Kay lets loose more information than she should, so von Karma (along with Maya and Phoenix) end up finding out about Kay’s relation to Miles.
Phoenix asks her about this later, and Kay explains everything. She begs him to get Miles a Not Guilty verdict since she doesn’t want to lose yet another father of hers. He promises her that he’ll try.
So we get to the final trial day. Kay thinks that Phoenix calling the parrot as a witness is one of the most hilarious things ever later on, but in the moment, she thinks he’s gone crazy, but it works. Miles is declared innocent and she couldn’t be happier... until he flips the switch and confesses to DL-6 after von Karma brings up
Kay gets so mad and upset about this. She corners him in the defendant’s lobby, which is not a pleasant conversation. She knows that Miles is innocent. They’ve been fighting this whole time and he’s just willing to give up that easily? Kay feels like she’s being left behind all over again. She doesn’t understand why Miles won’t “believe in me, who believe in you”. And she storms out. So there’s a bit more guilt on Miles’s shoulders, and a small bit of incentive for him to actually get a not guilty.
So, it cuts to Kay in the hallway making her way back to the gallery. She’s relaying to what’s going on to her friends over a text conversation (understandably, they’re all pissed) when she bumps into someone on her way back.
Yeah... Kay runs into von Karma again. And knowing what she does about him, Kay’s just fucking pissed. There’s a confrontation between the two where Kay comes to understand why Miles is so afraid of this man. He puts an immense amount of fear into her. She just wants to get away.
Kay hits his shoulder by accident in the process and notices the amount of pain it causes him after she runs off. So, long story short, Kay manages to figure out where the second bullet is before Phoenix does, and the trial concludes similar to how it does in canon, but with Kay’s intervention. She’s beyond relieved that Miles is free and von Karma is arrested.
She also feels horrible about yelling, and decides to take her friends’ advice to heart. She almost lost Miles once, and if that ever happens again, she wants him to know the whole truth.
The first thing Kay does after Miles is declared innocent is confess everything to Miles. She’s stammering and nervous and is barely through it when Miles cuts her off because he already knows Kay’s studying to be a defense attorney. She’s not as slick as she thinks, Gumshoe had mentioned multiple times that Phoenix could be someone Kay could learn a lot from, etc. That, and he is Kay’s guardian. He keeps in contact with the school.
He’s not disappointed in her either, which is the one fear that Kay had. He understands not following in your father’s footsteps. If it makes her happy, then that’s fine with him. He is surprised that she finally told him the truth, though. Kay promises not to keep anymore secrets from him. She wants to trust him again.
Things end well between them... as well as they could be after that whole mess, but their relationship is steadily on the mend and all is right with the world.
...until February.
Rise From the Ashes
IF YOU ALL REMEMBER SOMETHING THAT I MENTIONED IN PART 1, THEN YOU KNOW THAT THIS CASE IS GOING TO GET WORSE FOR ONE MILES EDGEWORTH THAN IT ALREADY IS.
Kay gets dragged into this one by Ema when she comes by in tears over Lana getting arrested. Kay mentions what happened back in December and says that Phoenix might be able to help, so Ema drags her down there. Phoenix is responsible for two teenagers rather than one. Again.
let’s just pretend that they don’t have school for whatever reason
Not much changes other than Kay’s involvement in SL-9. People keep bringing up the fact that Ema was not alone. And Kay’s thief skills starting to show up a little bit. Again, she won’t discover the truth about the Yatagarasu until later down the line.
She also wants to kick Gant in the shin more and more as the case progresses.
When it gets to the point where they find out that Miles is going to resign,
It’s only during the last day of the trial that Phoenix (and by extension, everyone else but Maya) finds out about Miles’s connection to Kay when he brings up the fact that there was another witness present when Ema was attacked. And Miles isn’t able to hide who it is any longer.
So, Kay has to testify. And it’s not fun. It all ends with her asking them to leave Edgeworth alone, since he didn’t do anything wrong (or he didn’t know that he was doing anything wrong -- something that is later provable.) So, this case is full of family feels, and Phoenix feels like shit for having to do this.
But in the end, Kay’s memory is a bit more clearer than Ema’s, which leads to Gant’s arrest being a bit easier. Ema still leaves the country to study forensics in Europe, and there’s a tearful goodbye and promises to stay in touch between her and her friends. But the impact that the case leaves on Edgeworth does not change. He feels like he isn’t fit anymore -- as a prosecutor or as a guardian for Kay since he couldn’t protect her.
So, the night of February 25, Kay’s woken up in the middle of the night by Miles. She’s half-asleep, and really doesn’t understand what he’s saying at the moment. He’s saying that he has to leave for a while, and tells her that he cares about her. She’s just like “okay” and ends up falling back asleep.
The next morning, Kay wakes up and the house is just about empty. She can’t find Miles anywhere. She just thinks that he’s busy with a new case that needed him in the office early, or they needed him to help clear up what happened yesterday or something, so she doesn’t think much of it.
That is until Gumshoe picks her up from school early. He never does this. No one really does this without warning, like if its a doctor’s or dentist appointment or something.
Her entire world falls apart when he tells her about the note that they found on Edgeworth’s desk that morning.
Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth Chooses Death.
And that ends Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Kay doesn’t interact with the story all that much, but we already have Egdeworth’s perspective on the game for the most part. A lot of this takes place from Kay’s POV... including Justice for All. Which I have some... interesting things in mind for.

5 and 15 for the ask meme?
5. Favorite Head Canon I like to use:
Klavier and Franziska are distantly related and there is a Gavin / von Karma blood fued going on because the Gavins became defense attorneys to rival the von Karmas. Klavier is the first prosecutor in generations, further alienating him from his family while simultaneously earning him *some* respect with Franziska. Miles stays out of it.
Bonus: Apollo the Disney Adult and all my indulgent SoCal references
15. WIP snippet
Was debating between Fumbling, Strange Days and Heard Your Heart Beating but then I realized I don’t want to spoil the penultimate chapter of Fumbling, and The only thing I’ve written for SD are spicy scenes so I’ll keep those for another time. The scene from HYHB next chapter is actually pretty sad ( Apollo’s birthday + grieving over Clay) so I’m going to post a snippet from another chapter after that. Sorry that it’s rough- it’s an early draft.
————
“Are you free right now, Mr. Justice?” No matter how much time he’d spent with Miles outside of work at game nights and other informal functions with Miles Edgeworth, a part of Apollo still withered under the Chief Prosecutor’s gaze.
“Uh yes, I was just going to process these documents” he indicated the folder that was neatly organized in the brief case Mr. Wright and Mr. Edgeworth had gifted him for his birthday, “and then I was going to see if Mr, Wright was ready to go back the office-“
:read more:
“Good, come with me,” the other man practically commanded, turning towards the courtroom exit, “Wright will be meeting us upstairs.”
“Oh that’s good, that’s where I was going-“ Apollo said lamely as he shoved the rest of his court documents into the briefcase (hoping Edgeworth didn’t notice), and hurried to keep up with the other man.
Several flights of stairs later, Apollo thought his legs were going to give out- how could ride his bike through traffic but stairs could wind him? Mr. Edgeworth looked unphased, the man’s usual placid expression in place, as they climbed at the fast clip Mr. Edgeworth set for the.
Come to think of it, Mr. Edgeworth seemed to be in a hurry and the back of his shoulders were tense.
“So, where are we going?” Apollo attempted to ask as the door on the landing above them,as if on cue, slammed open to reveal his boss who was looking especially harried despite him winning his case.
“Oh good you got him, we got to hurry they office is going to close in fifteen, and there’s a lot more paperwork- I’ve been trying to get it all filled out for us.”
Apollo pushed himself up the final steps, “uh- where are we going? Is everything okay? you both look nervous”
Mr. Wright gave him a wide grin, “Nothing’s wrong”, and rubbed the back of his neck. Apollo knew that tick well enough- something was up.
“Nothing is wrong, Apollo; the officiant requires us to have a witness,” Edgeworth said primly pausing a moment to adjust his fiancé’s tie, before taking Mr. Wright by the hand and pulling him into the hallway at a brisk pace.
Apollo blinked, “Officiant?” As he scrambled after the pair, and then he realized where they actually were- the 7th floor.
The Office of the County Clerk Recorder. To be more specific.
“YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED??? NOW?!” Apollo yelled, “ On a Tuesday?!”
This wasn’t good. They had been doing so much prep; Apollo had finally planned the bachelors party (well, Klavier had done that. Apollo just had to convince Chief Gumshoe and Larry that they had contributed).
He did not just spend his Sunday evening convincing Wright and Edgeworth’s best friend from childhood, that booking VIP rooms at various strip clubs in North Hollywood, was not going to go over well with either groom, for the pair to just go and essentially elope before the end of the work day.
“Wedding planning is a terrible headache and we’re sick of it,” Mr. Edgeworth said hurriedly.
Phoenix gave Apollo a nervous smile, “His sister has completely taken over the planning- what was the final straw this time, babe?”
“ Apparently Franziska doesn’t approve that the cumberbunds don’t match some other inane item-“ the Chief Prosecutor snapped, “Apollo whenever you get married, tell your partner you want to elope. And do it immediately after you announce your engagement.”
Mr. Wright now looked more amused than sheepish, “Last month when we were on the Judge’s spring boat soirée , Miles almost had the captain marry us when Fran texted us about runner material. Apparently the one we picked makes distracting noises and looks ‘cheap’. Thank god Gumshoe was there to guikt him out of it; apparently he’s never been in a wedding aside his own and he really wants to be Miles’ best man”
Apollo felt his cheeks heat unexpectedly. This was all too much, “Wait. wait...but still..you can’t get married today- I mean the weddings only two months away-“ he was finding it difficult to not lag behind the taller men as their pace picked up.
“Why on earth did I allow us to get talked into June? Only five months to plan-foolish“ Edgeworth muttered.
The Clerk-Recorder’s office loomed in the distance. Apollo was frantically trying to come up with something to make them reconsider. Prosecutor von Karma and Maya would have his head if Wright and Edgeworth went through with this.
Guilt. Chief Gumshoe had done it...maybe Apollo could too:
“Are you seriously going to get married without Trucy being here?” Apollo blurted a little too loudly.
It had the intended effect though; Mr. Wright nearly slammed into his fiancé as Mr. Edgeworth suddenly stopped short.

“Wright, you have to snap out of this!”
Phoenix chuckled, but it was no longer the jovial laugh that he once gave when little Pearl found what she thought was a clue, or the nervous burst that came when he was called out on his bluffing. It was a dark laugh, warped and twisted by the dark age of the law. “What do you mean, Edgeworth? Snap out of what?”
Edgeworth stammered for a bit, trying and failing to form words as he simultaneously tried to fight back tears. “This... persona of a dark bitter enigma. It’s not you!”
There it was again; that dark bitter chuckle. “Of course it’s me. Who else would I be?”
Phoenix felt a hand on his shoulder before Edgeworth dared to speak again. “No, this is not you. You are foolishly optimistic, naïve to a fault, yet also so, so intelligent. You’ve always been one of the brightest people in the world, in wits, personality and outlook...”
“That’s not me anymore!” Something snapped in Phoenix. He was no longer chuckling, being aloof and sarcastic about the situation. This was anger. “That was a foolish version of me that blocked out the world! Who thought that, if only everyone had someone on their side, then the world would be a better place! That the truth would always be revealed, and that justice would always be served.” Phoenix began to deflate, his words broken as he began to have to fight through tears to get them out.
“Wright, look at me.”
Phoenix turned toward Edgeworth. He hadn’t really looked at his best friend in years. He looked healthier than Phoenix last remembered him. He was no longer frail from Von Karma’s strict dietary expectations for his protégé. The color had returned to his cheeks, and his hair regained it’s shine and luster. There were a few hairs that appeared to be silvered from age rather than Edgeworth’s natural brownish-grey, but it fit him. Rather than seeming to show age, it was a sign of wisdom and growth. To most people, the glasses would appear to be a sign of age, but Phoenix knew that Miles had always needed glasses; he was just self-conscious about wearing them. Phoenix was so proud of how far his friend had come.
But this wasn’t about Edgeworth; this was about Phoenix, and Miles wasn’t going to let him off the hook that easily. “I know you’ve been hurt. Kristoph Gavin took what was most important to you, and it weighed on you. But the truth has been revealed. He’s been caught, thanks to you! We can move forward now.”
Phoenix tried to ominously chuckle again, but he’d lost his bite, and it came out more as a scoff. “Can we move forward? You say my disbarment started the dark age of the law, but it’s not the only part. There’s that young prosecutor who didn’t trust that the courts would find the truth so he took the blame for the murder of his mentor. Forged evidence is at an all-time high with a mindset of the ends justifying the means. And that’s just been these past seven years! These issues date back to SL-9 with Gant forging evidence, or even further. I mean, the reason Von Karma killed your dad was because he revealed how Von Karma had his ‘perfect record.’” The tears were pouring openly. “No, the world is a dark and cruel place, and the only way to survive is to be just as bitter and cynical. You were right.”
Edgeworth looked with such concern at his friend as Phoenix buried his face in his hands and let the tears flow. Edgeworth watched, uncertain of what to do. Doing so, he began to notice things about his friend that he hadn’t before. For one, he was so thin. It was clear that he’d skipped too many meals, embarrassed to admit he couldn’t buy food for both himself and Trucy. His skin had turned a dull grey, and the spikes of his hair didn’t stand out on their own. It was as though Phoenix had burned to ash.
Edgeworth mulled over Phoenix’s words before voicing his deduction. “We’ve switched places.” Phoenix lifted his head looking quizzically at Edgeworth. “Wright, when we reunited all those years ago, I didn’t know what you saw in me. I was cold and bitter; I felt I was beyond saving. But you, you saw the good in me. You convinced me that life was worth living, and that I deserved to take care of myself. I... I resisted it so much at first, but I wanted what you had. I wanted to see the good in the world. So I worked toward it. It was slow, and I had to take it one step at a time. There were even times I relapsed and reverted back into old habits. I still struggle with that.
But now you’re where I once was. You’ve shut out the world and all the good it has to offer. And now that I’m in your shoes, it hurts to see you in mine. I will do anything to light that fire in you again. I know it’s still there. I see it when you’re talking to Trucy or gushing about how proud you are of Apollo and Klavier.” Edgeworth took Phoenix’s hands in his and looked in his eyes. “Phoenix Wright, it is safe for you to love again.”
If Edgeworth had been in possession of Phoenix’s magatama, he would have sworn he saw a final psyche-lock break. While the tears were still falling, they were now tears of relief and joy as a smile spread across Phoenix’s face and he wrapped Edgeworth in a hug. They just stayed like that for a moment. No words needed to be said. The past was gone, and the future could wait. For now, they could just stay in the moment.
When the moment passed, Phoenix looked Edgeworth in the eyes. The determined fire was back in his eyes. “Alright. Where do we begin?”
Edgeworth chuckled. “First, we get that mane of yours under control. I don’t even want to know how long that beanie has been hiding that rat’s nest.” Phoenix laughed a genuine laugh as he rubbed the back of his neck and gave a sheepish grin. It was the most beautiful sight Edgeworth had seen in years, and he couldn’t help but laugh along. “Then, we work on getting you your badge back. Now that it’s been proven you had no idea the evidence was forged it should be easier, but because it’s been so long they will probably insist that you pass the bar exam again.”
“Oof, yikes. Going to be tough remembering what’s textbook procedure and what it’s actually like to be in a courtroom.”
“Don’t worry; I’ll help you study.” In that moment, Edgeworth realized somewhere along the way he’d placed his hand on top of Phoenix’s. He started to pull his hand away, but Phoenix grabbed on, so he stayed, even if he felt heat rising in his cheeks.
Phoenix looked away sheepishly. “You know, I spent seven years building these walls and forming this persona; it’s not just going to go away like flipping a switch. It’s going to take time for me to break habits and rebuild.”
Edgeworth gave a soft smile. “Of course I know. I spent fifteen years building my own walls and my own stoic persona. You were there for me every step of my journey; I will most certainly be here to support you through yours.”
Phoenix walked around to join Edgeworth on the couch. He rested his head on Edgeworth’s shoulder, and in turn Edgeworth rested his head on Phoenix’s. They just stayed there for a while, knowing that they’ve supported each other through thick and thin, and that support was only going to continue growing through time.

y'all ever think about how out of every prosecutor in the whole (main) ace attorney series Edgeworth is the only one that probably wouldn't get thrown out of a real courtroom like let's go over the facts
The most Edgeworth did wrong is manipulate testimony and whatnot, but according to rise from the ashes he never forged evidence on purpose.
Manfred Von Karma on the other hand has forged evidence and also more or less threatened the judge.
Franziska Von Karma just has a whole ass whip that she actually uses, goddamn.
Godot is just endlessly drinking coffee. I don't know if that's against the rules of court but evidenced by dialogue in his first appearance and even in ajaa when Ema and Apollo eat snackoos in court it's at least considered quite unprofessional to eat in the middle of a trial. I'd imagine at most lawyers are allowed a water bottle in a real court but that's it. But anyway besides the coffee drinking itself what would get Godot thrown out is that he throws his mug at Phoenix like that's literally assault who let this guy stay here
Klavier Gavin did nothing wrong technically but if I were a judge I wouldn't allow him within 20 miles of my courtroom wearing that ATROCIOUS affront to god suit
Where do we begin with Simon Blackquill. First of all he's an actual prison inmate I don't care about how good his psychology skills in court are that doesn't mean you put a fucking convicted felon on death row in court even if he does turn out to be innocent later. Besides that he has a whole ass pet bird that he sics on the defense, witnesses, and even judge. Not to mention his rude language with the judge. This guy would've been in a courtroom for maybe two minutes before he was taken away and executed on the spot.
Nahyuta Sahdmadhi at first seems innocent but then he attacks the defense with prayer beads and that's just Not Great.
Ga'ran Sigatar Khura'in is another instance of I wouldn't let her inside in the courtroom in the first place with that outfit she's wearing she only gets to stay cause she's royalty but if she didn't have that she'd be arrested for crimes against fashion
Bonus: the Payne brothers. They're both little bitches who don't deserve rights.
Since I haven't played any of the spinoff games besides about three cases in the first aai which I barely even remember I can't speak for prosecutors introduced in aai and dgs but with the track record of the main series I just don't think they'd be much better

Kristoph’s Relationship with Apollo and Klavier
So I’m going to start by saying that this is DARK. Huge trigger warning for mental and emotional abuse and manipulation. Kristoph is an absolute monster and he’s such a great villain that I utterly despise him sooo... yeah.
————
I like to think that Kristoph was an absolute master of emotional manipulation. Like. He really gaslighted people. Phoenix had Edgeworth to make sure he knew everything Kristoph was trying to make him believe was wrong, but Klav and Apollo? They didn’t have anyone.
Kristoph had his claws in Klavier from the beginning. I like to think that the Gavin parents were distant- not in an abusive way- but they were distant. Kristoph was always fine with this but Klavier needs reassurance. Kristoph realized this and instantly recognized the potential this had.
Kristoph was the one who reassured Klavier every time he thought he was doing something wrong. Kristoph was the one to comfort Klavier when he had nightmares. Kristoph was the one who was there. It didn’t take long for Klavier to trust his brother so much that he’d do anything Kristoph asked without question
Kristoph used this “power” sparingly at first but the older Klavier got, the more Kristoph manipulated him. He convinced Klavier to go into law (which turned out to actually be a good thing because Klav genuinely loves law) and he convinced Klavier that he should pursue music because he thought Klav would break under the pressure of both (with also turned out to be good for Klavier)
And then the Gramarye case happened. From the get go, Klavier was suspicious that Phoenix hadn’t ordered the false evidence, but Kristoph just kept telling him that he did the right thing and that Phoenix was guilty and Klavier should just continue law and music. Klavier tried pushing back against law but Kristoph was pretty much pushing him back into law, hence the break he took.
And that’s when the gaslighting started. Kristoph knew that Klavier trusted him without question and used that to his advantage. Every phone call had something about the Gramarye case. First it was mention that Trucy was adopted by Phoenix, but it devolved into Kristoph basically explaining how terrible so many people’s lives were because of that trial. Then, it was the win record. By the time Kristoph was arrested, he’d convinced Klavier that the Gramarye trial all his fault and that he was a total failure because his brother had a perfect win record and he had one unfinished trial. He managed to hide it because of his acting abilities but when he met Apollo, his self esteem was so intensely tied to being perfect that the only reason he was so helpful to Apollo is because he genuinely fell in love with him on sight.
Then there’s Kristoph and Apollo’s relationship. Apollo, being abandoned by Dhurke in a foreign country and really only having Clay who probably lost his dad sometime around the end of high school, had pretty much no money. In fact, he didn’t really have enough spare money to even buy a suit and because of that, he got rejected from a lot of internships (it didn’t help that his background seemed pretty sketchy. No record of him in an orphanage and no record of a family references, an ever changing place of birth, etc). Kristoph however saw this as an opportunity. Not only did he hire Apollo, but he even gave Apollo money for a suit and just over all quickly established himself as someone Apollo could trust.
It didn’t take long for Apollo to not only trust him, but for Apollo to start acting somewhat like him. He was pretty much a dog. Kristoph would give him an order and he’d follow it no questions asked. And man did Kristoph take advantage of that. He basically got Apollo so addicted to being given orders that Apollo literally could not do anything law related without asking Kristoph, and after a bit, it started bleeding into his every day life. Clay managed to curb it to an extent, but once Apollo started doing things by himself, Kristoph found something wrong with it every time. Sure he’d point out the mistake with a smile and a hand wave and a simple ‘don’t worry about it- it’s just a small mistake”, but with Apollo having some pretty bad self confidence due to him being abandoned, his confidence was stripped away pretty quickly.
Once Kristoph got arrested for Zak’s murder, which was mostly Phoenix giving Apollo suggestions and pointing him towards the right direction (which makes me think Kristoph did this), Klavier and Apollo had pretty different, yet similar reactions. Both thought it was a fluke. That Kristoph wouldn’t murder someone for no reason. Apollo just kind of retreated into himself for a while, with Clay slowly helping him learn to actually trust himself to make decisions on his own without someone guiding him. All the while he tried getting another law job, but due to his horrific self confidence and the fact that he got his former boss convicted of murder he couldn’t get a job. It wasn’t until he went back to the WAA and he got Trucy who helped suggest to him what to do that he actually started to be able to make his own decision
Klavier on the other hand was pissed because despite all the shit his brother had put him through, he still trusted and loved his brother so much. He wanted to go and humiliate Apollo tbh. That’s the whole reason he stopped his tour. But then he saw Apollo and fell in love with him and started to pretty much fake confidence because he was trying to show off for Apollo. The nicknames, the flirting, it was an act to impress Apollo. And the whole reason Klavier was so upset about something small going wrong during Turnabout Serenade was because of Kristoph’s influence tbh.
Once the Jurist trial ended however, both Klavier and Apollo realized just how abusive Kristoph was to the other (due to the fact that both kind of froze up whenever Kristoph looked at them) but they refused to go to a therapist because they are both really of the opinion that they can get over it. They do however start meeting up and drinking and slowly explaining what Kristoph did to them and trying to figure out why they still looked up to Kristoph.
They manage to find a lot of comfort in each other (and eventually Apollo realizes he’s fallen for Klav and after a lot of awkward dancing around it they get together) and with Trucy doing everything in her power to make both of them feel like they can do anything, by the time DD comes around they’ve gotten pretty good at handling themselves in public but eventually after DD Athena and Simon realize something is up and basically convince the two of them to go to therapists because they really were quite understandably messed up from everything that happened.
By the end SOJ, they are finally confident in their skin.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk about how horrible I think Kristoph is.

Bells and Sculpted Angels
It's Ace Attorney,,,, but with magic.
(Yes I named this AU after a lyric from "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" because my friends made me watch the Phantom of the Opera movie so)
(The AU has nothing to do with the song or the show, it's just a cool lyric)
---
Witches
The most common kind of magic user, witches have control over certain powers. Powers develop based on the person, and usually by adulthood a witch has three distinct powers. Powers can be anything, from the common elements to subtle illusions or party tricks. Unlike other magic users, witches' tattoos usually detail in some fashion the powers they will develop, but it is usually vague and cannot be fully interpreted. They are also very distinct and often colorful. While most often tattoos manifest as a solid color, it's not uncommon to have a tattoo with multiple colors.
Witches can be anyone. There is no gender or sex restriction. Most often witch powers are inherited, but there have been cases in which non-witches have given birth to witch children and vice versa.
Witches can perform magic until they run out of energy but they get more powerful if they bind their source of magic to a talisman of some sort. Any item can be used as a talisman. If the witch loses their talisman, they lose their power.
---
Mediums
Mediums are a special kind of magic user, and while their existence is common knowledge, they are not nearly as common.
The Fey Clan is the most well-known and most powerful family of mediums.
All mediums need a talisman of some sort through which to channel power. They also have tattoos that share the color of the talisman they wear.
They have the highest power level, meaning it is more difficult for them to overuse their powers. This benefit is a necessity when channeling already takes much power and training.
As recorded in manuscripts, it is possible to channel the living, but only one person has had the ability to do so, Ami Fey, the founder of the Fey Clan.
Mediums are always female.
---
Ancient Beasts
There is a miscellaneous group of magic users that take the form of beasts or creatures from myths and legends. They have two forms, one a human form and one a beast form. These magic users are very rare and some believe they don't exist.
Their tattoos allow them to pass as witches or normal beasts, but there are subtle differences between witch and beast tattoos and ancient beast tattoos.
Despite the description of their specific type of magic use, they are very much human, but some people do not see it that way.
---
Beasts
Similar to ancient beasts in most respects, beasts are not mythical in any way. They have the same shapeshifting ability as the ancient beasts, but often take on attributes of their beast form even in human form.
Their tattoos are usually the color of the beast they channel, and unfortunately are also discriminated against because other users and humans see them as lesser. They have a completely human mind, the same way the ancient beasts do.
---
Wizards
Using a staff and a spellbook, wizards are not exactly born with magic, but are born with the ability to perform it with the help of a catalyst, usually a staff.
Wizards have tattoos, but they are always gray, only changing color to correspond with the spell being performed.
Wizards only exist through bloodlines, or in other words, wizards cannot be born to non-wizards.
---
Tattoos
Tattoos have certain qualities, no matter what magic user they are on. They are attuned most to emotions, and similarly to emotions, if magic is suppressed or utilized for too long, the tattoos will fade to gray until the powers are no longer being suppressed or the user regains their energy.
Tattoos are on arms of magic users and usually are not found anywhere else. They also have different designs for each person, and almost seem to reflect the user's personality in an abstract way.
---

helsa week 2020 day - modern
Objection! Hold it! Wait, what?
Or
I was going to write a nice story about Elsa bumping into her sister’s asshole ex at Disney World but he’s carting around a bunch of kids (his nieces and nephews) and is clearly exhausted and terrible at this so she ends up tagging along just to make sure one of the kids doesn’t end up falling over a railing or something when he’s not paying attention and they end up bonding…how the heck did I end up writing an ACE ATTORNEY AU?!?!
(still might write the theme park au at some point, but not today apparently)
(warning: this will probably make zero sense if you aren’t familiar with the plot of the first Ace Attorney game.)
---
Lobby 2, before the trial of Olaf Oaken
Prosecutor: Elsa Arendelle. Defending Attorney: Anna Arendelle.
“Quite melodramatic, isn’t it? Avoiding your little sister for years, only to end up facing off with her in court?”
“Are you doubting my abilities, Prosecutor Westergard? Sister or not, I can assure you it will not make a difference to me. I shall get the criminal declared guilty, as always.”
“Just checking. Wouldn’t want my big brother’s favorite protégé getting distracted and making a mistake.”
The blonde woman turned to glare at the smirking red-head next to her.
“Ah, yes. There’s the famous ice queen-glare that makes witnesses shake in their boots!”
“Would that it worked on fellow irritating prosecutors as well.”
The door to the lobby slammed open as a large mousey-blond man fell through followed by a large brown dog barking excitedly, interrupting the two. “Oof – I have the reports you wanted, ma’am!” He motioned excitedly as he looked up, then stopped as he saw the other man. “Ugh, what’s he doing here?”
“Detective Kristoff, you’re late.” She said. Then “Hello, Sven” as she turned to greet the dog warmly. “Hans was just leaving.”
Hans sighed. “Fine, I guess I am. Good luck out there, Elsa.”
“That’s Prosceutor Arendelle to you-“
“Yeah, yeah.” he waved, already out the door.
---
Lobby 1, after the trial
“Anna…I hadn’t expected to see you again after all these years…in retrospect, it would have been better that we not have met.”
---
Police Department, a few cases later, the day before Elsa Arendelle’s trial…
“You’re really taking Elsa’s case?”
“Of course I am! I know she didn’t kill that guy! And why are you prosecuting her, aren’t you guys supposed to be buddies or something?”
“Buddies? Hah! Just because Mister Westergard’s big brother is her mentor doesn’t mean they’re buddies! Guy doesn’t even have buddies, he’s just a big jerk-“
“That’s Prosecutor Westergard to you, Detective Kristoff. And although we are…acquaintances, I have been assigned to prosecute Miss. Arendelle’s case, and that is what I intend to do. If you truly believe her to still be innocent after hearing all the facts tomorrow in court, then I expect you to prove it.”
“…You think I’m foolish for believing in her, don’t you?”
“I think you’re so desperate to believe that the sister you remember still exists somewhere inside her that you would defend her from anything, even if she stabbed you through the heart herself.”
“Well, you’re wrong, mister! Anna’s gonna kick your butt in court tomorrow, and then you’ll be sorry, you big meanie…meanie!”
“It’s okay, Olaf. Prosecutor Westergard…I am going to finish my investigation. I will see you tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow then, Miss Anna.”
---
Detention Center, Visitor’s Room, Two days later…
“…What are you doing here, Westergard?”
“Prosecutor…no, Elsa. Did you do it?”
“…Does it matter to you what my answer is? You’re still going to try to get me declared guilty tomorrow; I’m sure your brother is already upset that Anna’s been able to drag out the trial for this long.”
“Elsa…”
“…Don’t look at me like that. Like you’re having second thoughts.”
“What if I am?”
“You’re not. I know you too well. You love lulling people into a false sense of security and then betraying their trust and turning everything against them.”
“…Well, I wouldn’t say I love it…”
“…”
“…Alright, maybe I do enjoy it a teeny bit too much. But only when I’m actually sure they’re guilty.”
“You’re always sure everyone you prosecute is guilty. You have no reason to believe any differently of me.”
“…Just…just please. Answer me, and I’ll leave you alone.”
“…No.”
“No?”
“I didn’t kill him.”
“…Okay…Goodnight, Elsa.”
---
Next day, in court, just before the verdict is declared…
“That time in the elevator, seven years ago…I still have nightmares…your honor, that man did not kill my parents! …I did.”
“Elsa, no!”
---
Lobby 2, a few minutes later…
“Ha! Finally, a chance to redeem yourself, little brother! Let us see that foolish girl try to defend her sister from this!”
“…”
“…Why so glum, Hans? This is your chance. Haven’t you been waiting for an opportunity to finally defeat Elsa Arendelle and take her title as King of Prosecutors?”
“Yes, but…not like this. And isn’t she your protégé as well? Why are you so eager to have her declared guilty?”
“Are you…questioning me, little brother?”
“I…no. Of course not. I’ll…go start preparing my case.”
---
An hour later, Lobby 1
“Wooo! Did you see that! You verbally kicked his butt, Anna!”
“Yeah, pal! That was great!”
“Thanks Olaf, Detective Kristoff! At this rate we - …Elsa? What’s wrong?”
“It’s Hans. Why…would he be trying to make himself look this bad?”
“…You think he’s doing it on purpose?”
“Anna, I’ve known him for years. Even when he first started taking cases, Hans was never this clumsy and unprepared.”
“Maybe…is it possible he’s…trying to help you, somehow? I mean, I know it sounds ridiculous, it’s Hans after all, but…Kristoff?”
“…The bailiff just told me…apparently Prosecutor Westergard isn’t feeling well. Chief Prosecutor Westergard will be taking over for him.”
“His big brother? The guy who was Elsa’s mentor? But why…Elsa, do you know?”
“…Hans…he got himself kicked out on purpose. He acted so incompetent that the Chief Prosecutor had no choice but to step in. Anna…he was there that day, wasn’t he? Maybe…maybe Hans thinks he know something we don’t, and this was the only way to get him into court.”
“…Right. Well, we’ve gotten this far. Let’s do this.”
“Be careful, Anna. If Hans is ten times more ruthless than I am, his brother is ten time more ruthless than that…”
“It’s okay, Elsa. I’ve got you. I won’t let you down!”
---
The next day
Headlines: CHIEF PROSECUTOR WESTERGARD FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER
The Chief Prosecutor, known for being undefeated, has been found guilty of the murders of the late defense attorney Iduna Arendelle and Detective Agnarr Arendelle. It was said to be a crime of passion, revenge against them for tarnishing his almost-perfect record in court. It seems he tried to frame their eldest daughter Elsa, who was trapped in the elevator with them at the time, for the crime; but their younger daughter and Elsa’s sister was able to reveal the truth about his heinous schemes…
-----
So yeah. Basically Anna = Phoenix, Elsa = Edgeworth, Kristoff = Gumshoe, Hans = like a weird mix of Franziska and Klavier, Olaf = Maya (and Larry?(I mean as in person Anna and Elsa both knew when they were kids)), Sven = Missile the police dog
I was going to do Elsa as the defense attorney and Hans as the rival prosecutor at first, because if you’ve ever played an Ace Attorney game you know of the…”tension” between these characters, but “believing in a person so much even though you haven’t seen them in years that you defend them on blind faith against all odds” is just so Anna that I had to do it this way.
Maybe after Elsa gets her name cleared she ends up becoming a defense attorney and redeems Hans in the same way? Who knows. Also, I seem to have a running theme of “Hans’ asshole big brother is the real big bad” going here.
...Maybe the quarantine has got me a bit loopy, and that’s why I keep coming up with all these ridiculous au’s this year lol.

The rest of the week had been rather uneventful for everyone. Aside from the mini heart attacks Franziska had whenever Maya stopped by for coffee, the only other thing of interest was Klavier’s announcement of a Gavineer’s concert. Athena had gone to school one other day that week, Thursday, and had gone to the cafe after school with everyone else. It had become a daily occurrence to see Sky enter, followed by a group of high schoolers.
Saturday came quickly, and while Trucy was more than excited for her first “ real” sleepover (no, the times her and Pearl slept over at whoever’s didn’t count, they were practically cousins), the astronomy club’s fair came first.
“Wow!” Trucy said, as they entered the gym.
It was set up a lot like a science fair, each table had a model or poster board. But there was a scale model of the solar system, hanging from the ceiling, and the lights were out. There was glow in the dark tape, marking the path, and everyone got a glow stick wristband. Each station was lit up in it’s own fun way so you could see it clearly.
“So, where do you two wanna start?” Apollo asked. Pearl and Trucy were holding both his hands, so they wouldn’t get lost.
“Clay’s station!”
“Okay,” he looked down at the map, and just like everything else, it glowed in the dark. “It should be this way.” He pulled the girls off to the right.
“So, what is his on?” Pearl asked.
“It says he did an interview.” Once they were in view of Clay, Apollo let the girls run off towards him. He already had a small crowd around him, but once they arrived he started.
“Hello ladies and gentlemen, fellow space nerds. My name is Clay Terran, and I’m the vice-president of the astronomy club. For my presentation, I did something a bit different than everyone else, I went and got an interview with an astronaut.” There were a few murmurs from the crowd, but it quickly fell quiet again. “I was lucky enough to get an interview with astronaut Solomon Starbuck, who will be going into space on the HAT-1 mission this october. But I’m sure you don’t want to listen to me read his answers, so I recorded the interview. I was also able to ask some of the other employees questions. So, please enjoy it.”
*Beep*
”Hello, I’m Clay Terran, vice-president of Watson highschool’s Astronomy club, and I’m here today with astronaut Solomon Starbuck, Psychologist Metis Cykes, and robotist Aura Blackquill.”
“Hello, I’m Solomon Starbuck, and I’ll be one of the astronauts on the HAT-1 mission.”
“Hello, I’m Metis Cykes, and I’m a psychologist collaborating with the space center on a robotics project.”
“Hello, I’m Aura Blackquill, and I’m a robotist working with Dr. Cykes on a robotics project for the space center.”
“Alright, so the first question is for Mr. Starbuck…”
Throughout the interview, they discussed astronaut training, the psychological impact going to space has on astronauts, and some of the technical behind the scenes stuff. Clay even had a few pictures to share, and his own space center jacket. It was obvious to everyone watching that Clay had enjoyed his work.
By the time they had thoroughly explored the stations, and taken part in some silly space themed activities and trivia, it was six thirty. While the event had started around eleven thirty, they had arrived near the end so they didn’t have to wait around for Clay.
“That was so cool!” Pearl exclaimed when Clay met them outside the school.
“It looked like you had a lot of fun,” Apollo smiled. He didn’t think he’d ever seen Clay this excited.
“Thank you Pearly, and I did. It was a nice break from exam prep.”
“Polly’s been studying wayyy too much! Daddy has to keep reminding him to sleep, and that he still has a week,” Trucy laughed, as they made their way back to the Wright’s apartment.
“I just want to be sure I remember everything,” Apollo huffed.
“Working yourself into the ground won’t help that,” Clay laughed, as he slung an arm around Apollo’s shoulders. “I got an idea! Some of the club members were talking about an upcoming Gavineer’s concert, you and I are going.”
“Gavineer’s? Isn’t that that weird law band?” Clay turned to him with a look of offence.
“How dare you call the Gavineer’s weird! But yes, they are the band that sings about law. Besides, just think of it like my early birthday present.”
“First, what they sing about doesn't count as law, it’s at best, thinly veiled innuendos. Secondly, your birthday isn’t for almost three months.”
“He said early present though,” Pearl said.
“Ya Polly, weren’t you listening,” Trucy giggled, sticking her tongue out.
“Three months is too early for an early birthday present!”
---
“Hi papa,” Sky sighed, as she closed the door and buckled herself in.
“Hello, how was dance?” Miles looked up at her through the rear view mirror. She let out a long groan.
“My body wants to die!”
He chuckled before saying, “Well, cheer up. You have your sleepover tonight don’t forget, and aunt Kath gave me a cupcake recipe for you girls to make.” Her eyes lit up immediately. “They should get there a bit after us. So when we get home, go change.”
“Yay!”
---
“Athena!” Sky yelled, as she got out of her car. She ran at the girl, and tackled her in a hug. “Hi Junnie!”
“Hi Sky, how have you been?”
“Good! What about you? I didn’t see you all week,” Sky said, hugging her. Both Athena and Juniper were slightly taller than her.
“Where were you?” Athena asked. “And what’s with your hair, it’s never up.”
“Oh, I had dance. Come on, let’s head in. Papa said he got a cupcake recipe we can make once the others get here.”
Athena and Juniper sat downstairs, while Sky went to put her pajamas on. While she was gone, Pearl and Trucy arrived.
“Hi, I’m Phoenix Wright. You must be Mr. Edgeworth,” Phoenix said, and shook Miles’s hand, while Trucy and Pearl went to sit with Athena and Juniper.
“Yes, it’s a pleasure to meet you. My daughter is a big fan of yours, I was quite surprised when I found out you were Trucy’s father.”
“Ya, well. We try to keep that on the down low so her and Apollo can have a normal time at school.”
“Understandable. Would you like to have a cup of coffee, or do you need to be getting back?”
“Uh, I would love to, but I need t-”
“Eeee!” Came a squeal, before Sky clamped her hands around her mouth and apologized to Athena with a quick, “Sorry.” But she wasn't down for long as she ran up to Phoenix with a beaming smile. “You’re Phoenix Wright. Phoenix Wright is in our cafe. Papa, Phoenix Wright is in our cafe!” She turned to her father who was trying hard not to laugh.
“Yes, he is. But you need to keep it down, and apologize to Athena properly.” Her smile dropped, and she ran over to her friend.
“I’m sorry Thena,” she mumbled, giving her a big hug. “I just got really excited.”
“It’s okay, it wasn’t too bad.” Athena smiled, even though it had caused her quite a bit of pain. “But, why did you two come with Phoenix Wright?” Athena asked, turning to Pearl and Trucy.
Trucy tilted her head and frowned slightly, before saying, “He’s my daddy.” The room fell silent, as Athena, Sky, and Juniper stared in shock.
“Well, I need to be getting back. Maya’s picking you guys up tomorrow. Bye Mr. Edgeworth, it was nice meeting you!” The bell chimed as the door closed, then the room fell back into silence.
“Well then,” Miles said, clasping his hands, “who wants to make cupcakes.”

Pawn
(( dunno what to say it’s like midnight & im out here posting fics i made of my own aus bc yes ))
“Prosecutor Gavin?”
Klavier jumped, barely avoiding dropping all of his files with the movement. Still, he managed to turn and flash Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth an easy-going smile. “I didn’t hear you come up. What can I help you with, Herr Chief?”
Edgeworth frowned. “Would you mind coming to my office?” Klavier felt a bead of cold sweat roll down his back, but the smile did not falter as he nodded.
“Of course, just let me set these files down first, ja?”
---
For having the entire back wall be windows, the Chief Prosecutor’s office managed to be incredibly oppressive. The rich, dark wood and subdued magenta tones of the furniture devoured the midday sun. He spotted a chessboard across the room and seeing the way those magenta pieces surrounded the blue one, paired with the pawn statue nearby, made him feel hunted, trapped.
Despite his discomfort, his eyes lingered on that blue piece. It had a spikey quality to it and reminded him of….
“Please take a seat, Prosecutor Gavin.”
Klavier flashed a smile, mentally keeping hold of the spikey pawn for later, and sat down. “How may I help you, Herr Chief?”
Edgeworth sighed and took a seat of his own. The sense of being cornered grew; this felt like the interrogation room and Klavier wasn’t terribly keen about being the one getting interrogated.
“Have you been feeling well?”
A melodious laugh cut through the tense air as Klavier waved the concern off with a gentle flick of his wrist. “Of course!” His brow furrowed with innocent concern despite the knot taking root in his stomach. “Do I not seem alright? Have I made a mistake somewhere?”
Edgeworth shook his head. “No, but I talked with Wright the other day.” As Wright’s name left Edgeworth’s lips, so too did the blood drain from Klavier’s face. He saw Edgeworth take note of the change with a slight, decisive nod. “He mentioned the scene you made in the courthouse and I have noticed that you’ve been stressed and on edge ever since.”
Something in Edgeworth’s eyes grew sharper, not fully accusatory, but probing all the same. “Additionally, you have been accessing many of the files on Wright’s old cases. I am, let’s say, curious about this string of odd behavior.”
Klavier swallowed, mind whirring to think of a suitable lie. “I…” He pointedly cut his gaze away. “Hearing that Herr Wright was moving to get his badge back and seeing him in a new suit just….” His stomach twisted and he had to fight down bile as he remembered that impostor standing beside Herr Forehead like he belonged there.
“It brought back memories of both the Gramarye and Misham trials. I was reminded of how badly I screwed up and… And I guess I wanted to finally learn about the man whose life I ruined. Finally do the due diligence I should have done when Kris had first come to me speaking on Herr Wright’s character, ja?”
He finally looked back toward Edgeworth, halfway bracing to be called out on his lie. Instead, his boss’s face had softened the slightest bit.
“It’s not your fault what happened to Wright. I know it’s easier said than done, but you cannot torture yourself over what you think you should’ve done or agonize over what hindsight shows clearly now.” Klavier couldn’t help but recall his conversation with Lana Skye and found himself wondering if he could make Edgeworth hate him as quickly as he had made her.
No. Edgeworth might already secretly resent him, but there was no reason to give him an excuse to be more blatant or even fire him. He needed the access to official records that this job provided. He needed the way it instantly opened doors, gave him ample reason to be just about anywhere he wanted to be.
So, he sighed, sheepishly smiling. “I just… it’s hard not to fixate on, to worry about, ja? But I’ll keep your advice in mind, of course.”
Edgeworth nodded, the corners of his mouth crooking upwards. But then they fell, and his expression grew somber again. Klavier felt the oppression of the room grow even stronger.
“But there was one thing that is concerning me. I decided to speak with Mr. Justice on the matter as you two are somewhat close and he said that you kept going on about Wright being, well, not actually Wright.” There was no question posed; Klavier got the sneaking suspicion that Edgeworth wasn’t sure what question to ask.
On the other hand, Klavier wasn’t sure how he was supposed to respond to that. It wasn’t as if he could deny it, not with Herr Forehead’s words against his own. How was he supposed to rationalize his reaction when there was nothing rational about the situation that they were all in?
They both became shrouded in a damning silence.
Eventually, though, Edgeworth sighed. “This is not an order, Prosecutor Gavin, I want to tell you that first. However, I would recommend seeing a professional. I know you had been put on leave following Vera Misham’s trial, but you immediately went back into the deep end of work once you were cleared to return to the office and haven’t taken a vacation since. Perhaps you ought to take some time off, see if you can find someone to help manage your stress and how you feel about the events surrounding the Misham trial.”
Klavier smiled, though he knew he would not be heeding that advice and the way Edgeworth bit back another sigh suggested that he knew as much too.
“Well, I won’t keep you any longer. Please just keep what I’ve said in mind, alright?”
Klavier nodded and stood, making his way to the door. As he did, he spared one last glance at the chessboard. “That’s an interesting chess set, Herr Chief.”
Edgeworth chuckled, pink dusting his cheeks. “It is a custom set; a bit garish now that I think on it; it’s a bit arrogant to represent yourself in your own chess pieces.”
“Nothing wrong with having items to match your aesthetic, ja?” Klavier assured, lightly flicking his thumb on his chain belt. “But you don’t seem very blue or spikey; do those pieces represent someone else?”
The pink got a little bit deeper. “Ah, just an old friend.”
Klavier paused; it had to be Wright. Who else had hair like that with a blue palette? Better play along with this worldwide lie for now, though, lest he end up with mandatory psychological leave and therapy sessions. “Ach, I was hoping for gossip, but I don’t know any spikey-haired people in blue.”
An odd expression passed over Edgeworth’s face at that, but as soon as it was there, it vanished. He shooed Klavier off with a put-upon sigh. “You’re dismissed, Prosecutor Gavin. Take care of yourself.”
Klavier nodded and walked out, feeling the slightest bit more grounded in his pursuit.
