I have been asking my brother to exchange my CO2 canisters for the sodastream for probably 3.5 weeks now. The why of it is a separate issue and he and I have got to talk, but I suspect he did not Forget; he decided he did not want to do it and so he did not do it.
The day after I was Out of CO2 for real, I decided that what I really needed to do was buy 2 more new canisters to give myself more wiggle room.
After a WEEK, because Sodastream is only there m-f and because of the holiday, I finally got my new CO2 canisters.
THEY’RE THE WRONG GODDAMN ONES.
They only have two, non-interchangable, color-coded types of tanks with different connector schemes. I bought the right ones and they sent me the wrong ones, which are NOT compatible with my machine.

ALSO FREE PALESTINE
I don’t care about how you might want to argue with me about this, I don’t support genocide and I just want to make my stance on that clear. (Unfollow me if you want, you won’t be missed.)
Once I gather all my links together I’ll be putting resources and information on Israel’s occupation of Palestine and ways to help right here.
To learn about Palestine and the ongoing conflict there: thepalestineacademy.com
USCPR’s toolkit for calls (what you do - in the US - to call for a ceasefire & the end of the US’s support of Israel)
Make sure to state your name and address (& at the very least your zip code when calling) so that your call/voicemail/email is recorded by your local representative.
Here’s global protest information to look into if you are able to physically attend a rally.
Boycott! Boycott! Boycott! Boycott! (We have spending power let’s put it to good use.)
Siemens, Puma, Garrefour, Ahava, Sodastream, HP, and AXA (a multinational insurance company based in France that provides its services throughout the West) all support Israel. x x
This post gives a lot of info.
Also, protest tips to keep yourself safe out there because the right to free speech in America is a joke. If you can, look into faraday bags (or alternatively tinfoil) to combat the police tracking your cell (but, really, just try not to bring your phone at all). Look into temporary burner phones (that you can discard), and in order to better combat facial recognition wear goggles as well as a mask.

Actor Stefán Karl Stefánsson has just graduated from the Drama Academy. However, he is more experienced than many, as the theatrical bug took root in him in his early childhood. In the near future, two works in which he will play will be premiered. The Little Shop of Horrors in the Borgarleikhúsið, where he plays eight roles, and the solo play Thousand Island Sauce in Iðnó.
"My biggest dream was to become a fisherman. I hung down on the ridge all day long and day in and day out with the fishermen who sometimes allowed me to come out to sea with them, " says actor Stefán Karl Stefánsson when he is asked to think about his youth as he sits in the café down in Iðnó. "I even took a test (30 ton skipper's license) and spent a whole summer fishing with my friend Sigurður, who is now a shark fisherman in Australia. It was a great adventure. The sea has always attracted me too. I have long had the dream of being Robinson Crusoe for a short time, living on a tiny island out in the Baltic Sea with palm trees and screaming monkeys. “
Nuns in the snowball fight
Stefán Karl is a 24 year old from Hafnfjörður. He finds it wonderful to live in Hafnarfjörður and says he can not think of leaving, as Hafnarfjörður is his region.
For the first few years of his life, he lived in the old town but then moved to the suburbs where he had a view of the monastery. "We kids had a lot of contact with the nuns and often jumped over the wall to them, even though it was not allowed. We went and gave them chives and vegetables that we had grown in the schoolyards and instead gave us pictures of Jesus and rosaries. Then they sometimes played the guitar for us. "
Stefán says that the nuns were always happy. They went out in the yard on cold winter days and were in the snow like little girls. In the spring they played volleyball and football. He always thought it was so funny because it was not what people think of nuns in their free time. But when did he make the decision to be an actor?
"The decision was not made immediately but I was still always acting. I have pictures of myself at the age of four where I have stuffed myself with a pillow, have a ketchup bottle as a bottle of alcohol and I was playing a drunk. I was a very happy young child and sang and played for everyone who came to visit. At one point, I got into a conversation with my old elementary school teacher and said that I was naturally overactive as a child. "No, no, no," he said. "But you were very meticulous."
You're at the top of the world, you idiot!
"While my friends were learning to smoke, drink and ride, I took milk in a SodaStream bottle and buttered bread down to Hafnarijarður's theater to watch. I had tried to get into the theater company by showing different tricks to the chairman to show what I was capable of. It did not work because children were denied access. "
Stefán Karl says that he acted in all the school plays he came across. He played Nilsson the monkey, Arí (a little eight-year-old third child) and the ever-popular young doctor. When he was thirteen years old, a youth department was operated within the theater company for the first time. A play was staged called This is all nonsense, Snjólfur directed by Guðjón Sigvaldason. With that, the dream of joining the theater company became a reality.
"The following year, we worked with Davíð Þór Jónsson, who had made a breakthrough in the directing of Fúsi Froskagleypir a little earlier. Then we staged the play You are at the top of the world, you idiot!, where I played five teachers. That same year I played in Hrói Höttur in the older theater company and 'from that time I had no choice but to play, play and play. "Did you learn anything in this acting world?
"No, that's exactly the funny thing about it," says Stefán Karl and laughs. "I made many attempts to learn something general, but nothing worked. I did badly in the 10th grade and then went to the Vocational School. I left after one semester because there was so much to do in the theater company. I started in computer science, went to Flensburg, to the Vocational School in Hafnarfjörður but gave up everywhere for the same reason. " In 1994, Stefán Karl got a job on Television voicing for a puppet in Stundin okkar. Then in the autumn he got to play an extra in the Áramótaskaup, which was directed by Guðný Halldórsdóttir. With that, his fate was decided.
Played Sigurður G.Tómasson
"It was Skaupið where things went wrong," says Stefán Karl. "I even played in one episode that was completely banned." Why did everyone go crazy again?
"It was made fun of too many things. Ólafur G. Einarsson. It seemed like a long way off when President Vigdis was shown ordering a pizza and saying that we were mocking our head of state. But, of course, we were then sharing the pizza craze that was sweeping the country. I find this a shining example for the Icelandic nation; what we always think we're but we are so completely humorless often. "
Guðný then asked Stefán Karl to take on some speaking roles in Skaupið. He says that he was shaken by the bones over it, but found it indescribably wonderful to play against Bessi Bjarnason, Gísli Rúnar and Edda, Eggert Þorleifsson and other such actors. Along with all the actors he found funny, these people were idols of his. He got to play with the national team and he remembers his roles well.
"I played Sigurður G. Tómasson, Einar Thoroddsen wine taster and made an attempt to play Páll Óskar. Last but not least, I then played the man who could not sing the national anthem. Sang the Icelandic national anthem to the tune of When the Robbers Came to Cardamom Town. That scene was banned. I still have photographs of it at home and I would like to have it on tape, but it has probably been deleted from all films, "says Stefán Karl and coughs terribly. "This is smoking. It is naturally absurd to be an actor and a smoker as the voice is the actor's means of livelihood. As Gunnar Eyjólfsson said in his speech at our graduation, it should be a condition of admission to the Drama Academy not to smoke. Smoking should also be a reason for expulsion. Although I have become addicted, I agree with him in many ways. "
The best year of my life
The entrance exam for the Drama Academy was taken by Stefán Karl in 1995 and he got into the first attempt. It is a condition to be 19 years old and have a good command of the Icelandic language, in addition to which you should be able to read the material in two other languages. It stood at least in the application.
"I almost had no good knowledge of any language, but still managed to deal with it," says Stefán Karl. "I also think that if you have sincerity and acting ability, that's what matters." "These are the best years of my life," say many experienced actors today. "To be in an environment where you get time to think your way around and look at yourself. For me, it was great. I was also incredibly lucky with my class
We are 8 individuals who all aim to become actors and we become like a big family. Something comes up and people quarrel and are ashamed and embrace and love again. There is an exchange of good and bad as in all families, but usually it was just good with us. Now the graduation is over and it's hard to break away from this solid form. So much has changed. It's like a big brother leaving home. Nothing is the same. "
Is your group no less protected than previous year groups where you have acted so much outside of school? "Acting school students have always been able to get exemptions for acting outside of school. The reason we got into the discussion was that so many of us from one class did this. When we got up, it did us good. I am also in favor of people being allowed to play, as long as it does not come down to school. "
For everyone who has flown
Now Stefán Karl has graduated with his schoolmates. Their graduation project, Krákuhöllin, has received a lot of attention and Stefán says that there has not been a similar attendance at the Student Theater for decades. The graduating students are happy with the idea of being able to hold Lindarbær until the end of June so that they can continue to show the piece. "It is based on an agreement reached between the Minister of Finance, who directs Statistics Iceland, and the Minister of Education, who controls us. At the moment, the Ministry of Finance is doing its job, but the Ministry of Education is not doing it. This must all be stranded on some housekeeper who hires and has hired a contractor to start work on June 1st.
Stefán Karl is back in Iðnó, but last summer he played there in Waiter in the soup, a work that has also been well received. In the near future, there will be a premiere of a solo play that he used at the Drama Academy. "We are working on an individual project in the third year of my studies and I asked Hallgrím Helgason to write a work for me. We decided to let the work take place in an airplane and a Thousand island sauce was created. Hallgrímur then submitted the play to a play competition here in Iðnó and we came in second place. It will now be shown in the Hádegisleikhúsið under the direction of Magnús Geir Þórðarson. "
Getting in touch with the sadist
For now, Stefán says he hasn't started to think much about the future. The little shop of horrors will premiere in just a few days and there he will play 8 roles. Including the role of the sadistic dentist that Laddi played so memorably at Héma that year. Stefán doesn't use the same wig and palate that Laddi used, since his character creation is very different. He goes on to say that it is not difficult to get in touch with the sadist himself: “We are more or less sadistic. What is teasing, for example, other than low-level sadism? ”When Stefán Karl is asked about the future, he says he still lives with his parents, but this autumn he intends to move to his own home. The umbilical cord breaks late in his case, but now he is holding out in the cruel world.
"I also have a lot of dreams that I want to make come true. For example, I would like to create something with music and humor. Although new and new entertainers appear here in Iceland, they are all the same. Stand-up. The bands are also all about some variation of Greifabönd. I feel like something is missing and I want to do something about it. Not just falling into the ruts of the others but creating my own. "

Rosario Isabel Dawson (born May 9, 1979) is an American actress and singer. She made her feature film debut in the 1995 independent drama Kids. Her subsequent film roles include He Got Game (1998), Josie and the Pussycats (2001), Men in Black II (2002), Rent (2005), Sin City (2005), Clerks II (2006), Death Proof (2007), Unstoppable (2010), and Top Five (2014). Dawson has also provided voice-over work for Disney, Warner Bros., DC Comics, and ViacomCBS' Nickelodeon unit.
For her role in Rent, Dawson won the Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture; for her role in Top Five, she was nominated for the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Actress in a Comedy.
Dawson is also known for having several roles in comic book adaptations. These include Gail in Sin City (2005) and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014), providing the voices of Diana Prince / Wonder Woman in the DC Animated Movie Universe and Barbara Gordon / Batgirl in The Lego Batman Movie, as well as her portrayal of Claire Temple in five of the Marvel/Netflix series: Daredevil (2015–2016), Jessica Jones (2015), Luke Cage (2016–2018), Iron Fist and The Defenders (both 2017).
Early life
Dawson was born on May 9, 1979, in New York City. Her mother, Isabel Celeste, is of Cuban and Puerto Rican ancestry. Isabel was 16 years old when Rosario was born; she never married Rosario's biological father, Patrick C. Harris. When Rosario was a year old, her mother married Greg Dawson, a construction worker. Dawson has a half-brother, Clay, who is four years younger.
Isabel and Greg sublet their 199 Avenue A apartment to Paul de Rienzo and moved their family into a reclaimed building after being approved by the 544 East 13 Street residents on the Lower East Side of Manhattan as members of a affordable housing plan. During that time Rosario and Clay would also grow up in Texas. Dawson has cited this part of her history when explaining how she learned that, "If you wanted something better, you had to do it all yourself."
Career
As a child, Dawson made a brief appearance on Sesame Street. At the age of 15, she was subsequently discovered on her front-porch step by photographer Larry Clark and Harmony Korine, where Korine lauded her as being perfect for a part he had written in his screenplay that would become the controversial 1995 film Kids. She went on to star in varied roles, ranging from independent films to big budget blockbusters including Rent, He Got Game and Men in Black II.
In 1998, Dawson teamed up with Prince for the re-release of his 1980s hit "1999". The new remixed version featured the actress in an introductory voice over, offering commentary on the state of the world in the year before the new millennium. The following year, she appeared in The Chemical Brothers' video for the song "Out of Control" from the album Surrender. She is also featured on the track "She Lives In My Lap" from the second disc of the OutKast album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, in which she speaks the intro and a brief interlude towards the end.
In 2001, she appeared in the movie, Josie and the Pussycats as band member Valerie Brown.
Dawson starred as Naturelle Rivera, the love interest of a convicted drug dealer played by Edward Norton, in the 2002 Spike Lee film drama, 25th Hour. In the 2004 Oliver Stone film Alexander, she played the bride of Alexander the Great. In the autumn of 2005, Dawson appeared on stage as Julia in the Public Theater's "Shakespeare in the Park" revival of Two Gentlemen of Verona. It was her first appearance on stage.
In the film adaptation of the popular musical Rent in 2005, she played the exotic dancer Mimi Marquez, replacing Daphne Rubin-Vega, who was pregnant and unable to play the part. She also appeared in the adaptation of the graphic novel Sin City, co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, portraying Gail, a prostitute-dominatrix. Also in that year, she appeared in a graphically violent scene in the Rob Zombie film The Devil's Rejects. Though the scene was cut from the final film, it is available in the deleted scenes on the DVD release.
She starred as Becky in 2006's Clerks II, and mentioned in Back to the Well, the making-of documentary, that the donkey show sequence was what made her decide to take the role. In May of the same year, Dawson, an avid comic book fan, co-created and co-wrote the comic book miniseries Occult Crimes Taskforce. She was at the 2007 San Diego Comic-Con to promote the comic. She co-starred with former Rent alum Tracie Thoms in the Quentin Tarantino throwback movie Death Proof in 2007, part of the Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez double feature Grindhouse. She teamed up with friend Talia Lugacy, whom she met at the Lee Strasberg Academy, to produce and star in Descent. On July 7, 2007, Dawson presented at the American leg of Live Earth.
In 2008, Dawson starred with Will Smith in Seven Pounds and in Eagle Eye, produced by Steven Spielberg. Beginning in August, she starred in Gemini Division, an online science fiction series. In the computer animated series Afterworld, she voiced the character Officer Delondre Baines. On January 17, 2009, Dawson hosted Saturday Night Live. Later in the year, she voiced Artemis of Bana-Mighdall in the animated film Wonder Woman.
In 2009, Dawson performed in The People Speak, a documentary feature film that uses dramatic and musical performances of the letters, diaries, and speeches of everyday Americans, based on historian Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States. In 2009, Dawson also voiced the character of Velvet Von Black in Rob Zombie's animated feature, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto. For the Kasabian album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, she is featured singing on the track "West Ryder Silver Bullet".
In 2010, she starred in the movies Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, as Persephone, and Unstoppable, as railway yardmaster Connie. In 2013, she played Apple's mother in the independent film Gimme Shelter. The following year, she reprised her role as Gail in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. In 2015, she played Claire Temple in the Netflix web television series Daredevil, a role which she reprised in Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Dawson's likeness was also used in the Jessica Jones tie-in comic as her character on both shows. Dawson has continued this role in 2017 in Iron Fist and The Defenders. In 2018, she played the female lead role in the Netflix movie, Krystal. In 2020, she was cast as the Star Wars character Ahsoka Tano in the second season of The Mandalorian on Disney+.
Personal life

Finley had been employed as a handyman, living with the family and had known them for decades. The Dawson family has not publicly commented.
In February 2020, Dawson publicly came out as a member of the LGBT community.
Politics
Dawson was arrested in 2004, while protesting against president George W. Bush.
Dawson endorsed Barack Obama for re-election in 2012, and Bernie Sanders for the Democratic nomination in the 2016 Democratic Party primaries. On April 15, 2016, Dawson was among the protesters arrested during Democracy Spring in Washington, D.C.
In mid-2019, Dawson endorsed her boyfriend Cory Booker in the 2020 presidential election. Booker ended his campaign for president on January 13, 2020. Had she become First Lady of the United States, Dawson said she would have advocated for solutions to youth homelessness. On March 9, 2020, Dawson endorsed the presidential campaign of Bernie Sanders, whom she had also previously endorsed in his 2016 bid.
Philanthropy
Dawson is involved with the Lower East Side Girls Club and supports other charities such as environmental group Global Cool, One Campaign, Operation USA, Oxfam, Amnesty International, Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), the International Rescue Committee, Voto Latino, and Stay Close.org, a poster and public service ad campaign for PFLAG where she is featured with her uncle Frank Jump. In 2012, Dawson partnered with SodaStream International in launching the first annual Unbottle the World Day, a campaign conceived in an effort to raise awareness to the impact of cans and plastic bottles on the environment. Dawson also sits on the Board of Directors of Scenarios USA, which works to support a generation of reflective, outspoken, and confident youth through filmmaking and uses film to educate students through a variety of programs.

22 Corporate April Fools' Day Pranks, Ranked from Best to Lamest
Tumblr media
Well, we survived another April Fools’ Day.  And, as it always goes, most brands unveiled some kind of mild, inoffensive prank for the holiday.
Here are 23 of the more notable April Fools’ Day pranks from yesterday, which we’ve subjectively ranked from best to lamest.
1.  Jagermeister went edgy with the “Jagerbong” . . . a gift box that helps you turn an old Jagermeister bottle into a bong.  It includes a pipe, a lighter, eye drops, and a hackey sack.

2.  The “L.A. Times”parodied the “New York Times” rep for writing about the rest of the U.S. like it’s a mysterious, cultural wasteland, quote, “No one associates New York, a city in the eastern United States, with good restaurants.  That’s beginning to change.”

3.  This got a lot of press coverage leading up to April Fools’ Day . . . but yes, Tinder’s new “height verification” feature is fake.
4.  Honda Canada announced a new “polite horn,” where instead of honking, your horn makes a passive aggressive coughing sound.

5.  McDonald’s Australia posted a picture of the McPickle . . . which is basically a Big Mac with a bunch of pickles replacing the meat.  But it may backfire . . . because someone tweeted instructions on how to actually order it.

15.  Google let you play the old school video game “Snake” on top of Google Maps.  That’s not exactly a prank, it’s more of an Easter egg they’d roll out any other day of the year.
16.  Hasbro played on the “millennials kill everything” cliché by announcing Mr. Potato Head has been replaced with Mr. Avocado Head.  But it’s not landing great, probably because millennial-avocado jokes are just so played out.

22.  And finally, Starbucks announced Pupbucks, a store for dogs.  The video they made for it isn’t close to as funny as they think it is . . . quote, “I have a whole grain beagle for a good boy.”  Nope.

Ways to make your kitchen more eco-friendly
The kitchen is a place where many things can be found: cleaning products, dishes, food, dish rags, the list goes on. What many average consumers do not know is the plethora of eco-friendly, or environmentally conscious, products that are easy to find and even easier to use in place of your current products.
Recycling
The majority of cities have recycling programs available, although some require an extra fee. Find this out through your waste provider’s or local government’s websites. Recycling is an easy way to make a big difference. In this way, single use items are given the chance to have a second life. This eliminates physical waste and energy waste when recycled materials are used instead of harvesting new materials.
Tumblr media
(1)
Composting
Compost is simply decaying organic matter. Sounds a little gross, but it can just be thought of as another way to recycle. Some cities collect compost, while others may choose to compost for their own personal gardens. What composting really does is minimize methane emissions. When food scraps go into your trash they end up in a landfill and emit methane, a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Compost is also used as a fertilizer, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers that are harsh on the earth. (2) Anything that cannot be recycled, composted, or reused in anyway can go in the trash. Swap your traditional trash bags for biodegradable ones, or even better don’t use trash bags at all!
So what can be composted?
Tumblr media
(3)
**Be aware that some composting does not allow any animal products such as fish, butter, yogurt, cheese, milk, animal fat, or your pet’s poop. This is because the risk of introducing disease to your compost. (2) Inform yourself either through your waste management’s company or a quick google on how to diy compost at home!
Natural Cleaning Products
There are some cleaning products out there that contain harsh chemicals that are harmful to the environment, yourself, and perhaps even what you are trying to clean. Try some eco-friendly brands such as Better Life, Green Works, Dr. Bronner’s, and Mrs. Meyer’s. There are a ton of other brands like this out there as well. Another option is to concoct your own cleaners, often with ingredients like baking soda and vinegar. If you’re a fan of more attractive looking soap bottles, keep your favorite and buy soap in bulk to refill the bottle. Buying in bulk is better for your wallet and the environment, as it reduces the amount of plastic needed for the amount of product.
Another way to be more eco-friendly while cleaning is using dish rags or cloth napkins in place of paper towels and napkins. If you use products like swiffer sweepers, you can find reusable cloth pads online, or even make them yourself! Pro-tip: Have old stained t-shirts? Cut them into nice little squares and use them as rags! Do you use any scrubbers? These are plastic products that cannot be recycled. Opt for bamboo ones instead, they have the same durability, are biodegradable, and more aesthetically pleasing.
Tumblr media
(4)
Dishwasher
Using a dishwasher is actually better for the environment vs hand washing in terms of water waste, who knew! Just make sure to always run your dishwasher when it’s full and to use an eco-friendly detergent.
Leftovers and Tupperware
Keep your leftovers! This gives you an effortless treat for later and reduces food waste. When storing really anything, opt to use Tupperware or reusable containers instead of ziplock bags, aluminum foil, or anything that is single use. (Single use meaning you use it once, then throw it away). Tupperware is great for lunches and storage in the kitchen/house too! Make sure to keep an eye out for expiration dates to avoid wasting your money and food.
Miscellaneous Purchases
SodaStream: If you enjoy any kind of carbonated drink invest in a SodaStream or any other brand of carbonating device. Basically you carbonate water and you can add in any flavors you choose, anything from lemon to a Pepsi type flavor. This eliminates the need to buy cans that require a ton of electricity and materials to produce, materials that are mined and in turn cause deforestation. (5)
Food Habits: Eating less red meat, or meat in general, is a great way to reduce your environmental footprint. Not only does eating an excess amount of meat cause harmful health issues, but livestock (cows, pigs, chickens, etc) generate as much greenhouse gases as the entire transportation sector! (6)
When you are at the supermarket, notice how many food items are unnecessarily wrapped in plastic and other packaging. Try to avoid these products. Another way to do this is opt for visiting your local farmer’s market instead, where there is little to no packaging.
Reusables: As discussed in all the topics above, there are so many reusable options you can switch in your kitchen. Another great one is using reusable bags when grocery shopping. These are sturdier, able to hold more items, and you guessed it, more eco-friendly! If you do have any plastic bags laying around, be sure to take them to stores such as Target or Kohl’s that have special bins you can place the bags in to be recycled.
Reusable water bottles versus plastic ones. Need I say more?
Reusable Keurig cups! Those plastic little cups you use every day are way too expensive and have no way to be responsibly disposed of. If you aren’t quite ready for the switch, opt for biodegradable cups which are specially marked on the product.
Tumblr media
(7)
Conclusion
Wow! That’s a lot for my first blog post. Although this series on how to be a more conscious consumer is for a university project, any comments from the general public would be awesome! I am always looking for new ways to be more eco-friendly and would love to answer any questions or general feedback.

The Best Soda Makers According to Pros (and Sparkling Water Fans)
Lisa Kaminski Updated: Aug. 15, 2022
--- Published by Taste of Home
Note:
We’re proud that the two soda makers below are both produced by us - Zhejiang Hongfeng Precision Co., Ltd
★ 2. Best Pro-Level Carbonator: Aarke Premium Carbonator
★ 3. Best Budget Soda Maker: Phillips Water GoZero
Tumblr media
No doubt about it: Fizzy drinks are more popular than ever. Whether you like flavorful soda pop or a classic club soda with lime (and maybe a splash of vodka), fizz is in. And while you can pick up your favorite bubbly bev at the supermarket, it can be a whole lot more convenient and healthier to make your own at home with a countertop carbonator.
But there are so many options out there! So what’s the best soda maker for creating your own sparkling water? See what Taste of Home had to find out!
Tumblr media
Trying 10 Different Soda Makers
There's only one way to find the best soda maker on the market: To try all the biggest names in the game! Peggy Woodward, senior food editor and sparkling water super-fan, took the lead on this test. With her guidance, their Test Kitchen put each at-home carbonator through its paces and made notes on the following:
· Carbonation: How well these machines work. Do they make perfectly fizzy drinks or do they fall flat? Can you customize the carbonation for extra bubbles?
· Extra features: Like any gadget, soda makers vary from simple to fancy. If any models have extra features, Taste of Home tested to make sure they’re worth the fuss.
· Size: Do not sacrifice too much counter space to the gadget that makes it. Make sure that the fizz is worth the footprint.
· Price: Make sure that budget and premium items perform well for their price point.
The Taste of Home team tried 10 models, and in the end, they were happy to pick five models to suit the needs of every sparkling water fanatic. Check out the best soda maker options—the ones they call Test Kitchen-Preferred.
1. Best Everyday Soda Maker: SodaStream One Touch
Tumblr media
One of the many reasons our pros call this a favorite soda maker is the ability to customize the carbonation. On the top of the machine, you’ll see three buttons for different levels of fizz. Just fit the bottle in place and press. In seconds you’ll have a bottle of bubbly water that suits you. From there, you can add all the extras you want to make an Italian soda, wine spritzer or even an old-fashioned ice cream soda.
If getting the flavors right yourself isn’t quite for you (or you just want something flavorful and fizzy quick), SodaStream makes so many syrups and flavorings. This impressive product array, plus the ready availability of the brand's accessories, are more reasons this model is a winner.
Pros
· Customizable carbonation levels
· Accessories like additional bottles, flavorings and carbonation canisters are easy to find
Cons
· Requires electricity, so this machine needs to be placed near an outlet
Specs
· Capacity: 33 ounces
· Price: $130
2. Best Pro-Level Carbonator: Aarke Premium Carbonator
Tumblr media
For a top-of-the-line look and experience, the Taste of Home Test Kitchen recommends the Aarke Premium Carbonator.
Unlike many other models, this Aarke carbonator is made of stainless steel (not plastic). It comes in eight different finishes, and Peggy has nothing but good things to say about the copper finish. “It resists fingerprints really well,” she explains. If it does get smudged, the folks at Aarke already included a microfiber cloth in the box.
When it comes to performance, this Aarke soda machine feels just as luxe as it looks. In the words of Peggy, “Wowza, this is fancy!” But don’t let the looks fool you: This machine is so simple to use. Screw the bottle into place and push the lever. That’s it! And if you want more bubbles, just push the lever again. The result is crisp, fizzy water perfect for your vodka soda.
The only drawback to this machine that the team could find was the price tag. If you enjoy fizzy beverages on the daily or love to show off your mixology skills, this machine will be well worth it to you. If you’re more of a casual bubbly imbiber, you may prefer one of the Test Kitchen’s other preferred models.
Pros
· Beautiful, sturdy construction
· Customizable carbonation levels
· Smudge-resistant finish
Cons
· Pricey
Specs
· Capacity: 33 ounces
· Price: $230
3. Best Budget Soda Maker: Phillips Water GoZero
You don’t need to spend a lot to get a great at-home soda machine. For the price of a few cases of LaCroix, you can get the Phillips Water GoZero (and never have to buy sparkling water again).
This compact carbonator takes up very little space on your countertop. Since it requires no electricity, it can be stashed and used just about anywhere. But this machine is so much more than a streamlined design.
The Phillips Water GoZero allows you to customize the carbonation level of your drinks. That means fizz fanatics can go over-the-top bubbly if they’d like! This is a major feature if you’re a sparkling water fan. It’s also a nice option if you plan on using this carbonator to make club soda for cocktails; you may want more bubbles to compensate for uncarbonated ingredients like juices and syrups.
Pros
· Affordable
· Small footprint
· Customizable carbonation levels
· Requires no electricity
Cons
· Fitting the CO2 cartridge inside the machine may take some practice
· Should only be used with water
Specs
· Capacity: 33 ounces
· Price: $70
4. Best Soda Maker for More Than Just Soda: Drinkmate Omni Fizz
If you check out the manuals for most at-home soda makers, they’ll encourage you to stick to water only. But with the Drinkmate Omni Fizz, you can carbonate any beverage you like.
For fans of bubbly beverages, this opens up a whole new world of possibilities! Carbonate water, yes, but also juice, sangria, cocktails—the possibilities are nearly limitless. Just slot the bottle of whatever beverage you like into place and fizz away. The manual includes suggested times for different liquids, but feel free to experiment!
Another benefit to the Drinkmate soda maker is that the bottle doesn’t need to be filled to a certain level to add carbonation. “This would be useful if you wanted to carbonate a small volume of something, like just one glass of wine or a single serving of soda,” says Peggy.
Pros
· Can carbonate any beverage
· Customizable carbonation levels
· Can carbonate any volume of beverage; other machines require the bottles to be filled to capacity
Cons
· Construction doesn’t feel as durable as other brands
· Bottles need to be hand washed and should be replaced more frequently
Specs
· Capacity: 29 ounces
· Price: $99
5. Best Old-Fashioned Soda Maker: iSi Classic Mesh Soda Siphon
Looking for a carbonator to add to your vintage-inspired cocktail setup? Add an iSi Classic Mesh Soda Siphon to the bar cart.
This compact soda siphon is exactly the sort of gadget your grandparents would have had to make Tom Collins after Tom Collins at their famous cocktails parties. That’s exactly why this carbonator is so beloved by our Test Kitchen; it’s perfectly retro, unfussy and super easy to use.
To make your club soda for your favorite cocktail (maybe a mojito?), just fill up the bottle and give it a few vigorous shakes. This will pressurize the canister and makes it ready to use. It creates seltzer that’s just bubbly enough for these mixed drinks.
Because this gadget is so simple, there is no room for customization. The canister makes a perfectly bubbly quart of soda but doesn’t allow for over-the-top fizz; you also can only carbonate water. For cocktail and occasional use, this is just fine, but it’s something to consider for serious bubbly fanatics.
Pros
· Super-fun retro style
· Space-saving footprint
· Easy to use and clean
Cons
· Cartridges only carbonate a quart of water; you’ll want backup cartridges on hand
· Cannot adjust the level of carbonation
Specs
· Capacity: 32 ounces
· Price: $68

okay. well today was pretty good. I had no reason to get up at any specific time, so I just slept for a while and eventually woke up at like 12:36, and then kinda laid in bed and pet NICKZANO for a while before actually getting up. I spent a bit of time on my computer getting some stuff done while also messaging this guy from this silly dating app I’m on who wanted to go out tonight and I was like okay sure, so we made plans to meet up at 5 at this restaurant that’s like a bar and pizza place, with like, individual pizzas, not slices. After I got some stuff done I got dressed and stuck my old sodastream in my cart to go to the UPS store. I think I neglected to tell you the story of what happened yesterday. Basically about two weeks ago, my sodastream somehow lost the ability to hold the bottle up like it’s supposed to do, so I called their support and they said well it’s probably defective so we’ll send you a new one, just send the old one back when you get it. Okay fine, the new one got here yesterday and I’m setting it up and go to stick the bottle in....and I have the same problem....so it’s the bottle that’s the problem, not the machine. At this point I remembered that when we were at the ren faire two weekends ago we had left our water bottles in the car and they got super hot, and I remarked afterwards that it felt like the plastic at the top of the bottle had been warped in some way when I was putting the cap on. So I tried the new machine with a different bottle and it worked, and I tried the old machine with a different bottle, and it also worked. WELL FUCK. I still had to return one of them to them, with a slip of paper saying it was defective, so I’m hoping they’re not going to like, follow up to make sure it was defective in the exact way I told them it was, and to be fair I called their support and described the problem and this is the answer they gave me, so it’s not really my fault. Just another example of my complete lack of common sense to figure really obvious things out. Sigh. But anyway, I stuck the old one in my cart and went down to the UPS store. I didn’t have a box that could fit it and they didn’t want you to use the one they just sent you the new one in because it’s all marked up from being in the mail system already. So I got there and told them what was going on, they weighed it and got a box, and I gave them the shipping label, then just paid for the box and we were good to go, so I’m glad that’s done. I came back home and chilled for a bit watching 30 Rock before getting ready for tonight around 3:30. I did fairly basic make up, and caught the bus around 4 so I’d have plenty of time to get there, which was a good choice because that bus route goes directly through Wrigleyville and the Cubs had a game tonight, meaning it was swamped with traffic and people, so it took forever to get through there. I eventually got there at like 5:15, but he wasn’t there yet either so I didn’t feel bad about it. He showed up a few minutes later and we got a table, one of the high ones with chairs that have no backs which is like, my two least favorite set up at a restaurant, but I don’t really care that much. We get drinks, he gets a beer after I assure him I couldn’t care less if people drink in my presence despite me not being able to have alcohol. we decide to order a mozzarella breadstick appetizer, which I originally just expected to be normal mozzarella sticks (yay for reading comprehension, right?) but was actually just breadsticks topped with cheese, which is also a good option so I didn’t really care. They somehow turned out to be like, super filling, to the point where I was like I don’t even wanna get a pizza at this point lol. Conversation was going pretty well, we talked about a bunch of different stuff as these things tend to go, we touched on politics and what a shitshow it is, a bit about our families (he’s from India and the rest of his family is still there), and then some commentary about the college football playing on the giant tv screens on the wall in front of us, and how we both prefer soccer to football lol. The work I want to do did come up and I described my current job predicament, and ended up getting into a mini-rant about the issues in the foster care system, but I kept it pretty limited as far as these things go lol, I could’ve gone on a lot longer. But yeah, I enjoyed talking to him, it was nice. We ended up just ordering dessert, which was a funnel cake, which we only ended up eating like half of because we were both full lol. He paid, I didn’t protest, just said thank you. Once we left he wanted to walk me back to the bus stop I was taking home, even though his place was a few blocks back. I’m gonna be out of town next weekend, but since it’s a long weekend I said I’d let him know if I ended up being free on Monday, but that I may end up having plans. When we were saying goodbye he asked if he could kiss me and I was like ah what the hell so I said yes, so we shared a brief kiss. I have a lot of feelings I’m trying to work through with all this (and other shit I’m not sharing on here for certain reasons) and I’m just trying to figure shit out with all of this, so I had kinda mixed feelings about the night overall. I got on the bus, which took me pretty close to home, unfortunately about 5 minutes before my stop it started downpouring, which makes this the second time in the past week where I’ve had to walk home in the downpouring rain, so that’s always fun. I had my umbrella thankfully, but that doesn’t do too much good with the water gathered at the sides of the roads are like, 4 inches deep and it’s took big to get around it, you’re just going to end up getting soaked up to your ankles. Thankfully I was wearing sandals, which are much less annoying than having to do so in like, socks and sneakers. I made it home without getting too drenched, just had to dry off my legs and feet a bit. Once I did that I went through a few packages I got today, one of which being a certain shirt I found online for a certain cosplay for HVFF NJ next weekend which I’m currently keeping a secret because y’all are gonna lose your shit when you see how great it is, lol. So that was cool. I then went to the couch and watched a few episodes of 30 Rock before starting to get ready for bed and here we are. It’s a bit past midnight and I do have to get up for church in the morning, so I think I’ll end this here. Goodnight my friends. Hope you had an awesome Saturday and will have an even better Sunday.

Girl why does my mom think I’m absolutely dumb as rocks??? Like, I’m only buying things for the apartment that I need, and I know how to shop around to save money. I need curtain rods, but I’m not dumb enough to pay more than $4 for them. I need a water filter because tap water in a 100+ year old building is...sus, but I’m legit buying the cheapest one that still has good reviews. I need rugs and storage things because the bathroom has nowhere to put anything but the windowsill but I’m legit shopping at Walmart which I hate, but I’m also not splashing out on needlessly expensive crap. The only things I splurged on were a Kate Spade kettle, because I’ve been eyeing it for over a year, and a sodastream, because I love seltzer but I don’t have the room or the inclination to buy a dozen liter-bottles every two weeks. I got the cheapest sets of sheer curtains because my doors are glass, and my windows face the street, and I like not having my neighbors being able to look in from their kitchens. I’m fairly aggressive about saving and yeah I buy dinner out and TS merch when I’m at home because I don’t have actual expenses and I don’t want to cook every single night. But it’s not so much that it’s an issue.

My New Favorite Gadget: Sodastream Soda Maker Machine
Hi, I want to tell you about my family’s newest favorite gadget, our Sodastream soda maker machine. A friend of mine bought one recently and showed it to us. We were amazed and knew we had to have one. He said it was the “coffee machine of soda”. He was right. It is about the size of a coffee machine and it only takes seconds to make fresh sparkling seltzer water and soda.
Here is how easy it is:
1. Fill the reusable soda bottle with water. 2. Insert the bottle into the machine and press the button to carbonate. 3. Add flavoring or enjoy the crisp, clean sparkling water.
It is remarkably simple to operate. It doesn’t use any electricity. There are no batteries and there are no power cords. There is only one button. You simply press the button to carbonate the water. You’ll hear a funny noise when the charge is complete. Press the button a few more times to fully carbonate the water. Usually three times is enough.
Tumblr media
My three year old son is particularly fond of the charging noise. He loves to press the button and then falls on the floor laughing every time after he hears the noise. We have to store the machine on top of the refrigerator to keep it away from him.
My wife and I love to unwind in the evenings with a glass of sparkling soda with a splash of lime or other juice. We get to enjoy a fizzy drink without concern for chemicals or calories. We have found, on occasion, that the sparkling water makes an excellent club soda for cocktails. Our guests love to watch us use the soda maker machine to make club soda on the spot.
I also enjoy a good soda, and so do my kids. But, like many people these days, I have become increasingly concerned about both the over use of high-fructose corn syrup in our food and drinks as well as the waste from so many empties used plastic bottles.
Sodastream’s flavors do not use high-fructose corn syrup. Their diet flavors use Splenda as a sweeter.
Tumblr media
I enjoy the savings as well. According to the website, you can make the equivalent of a can of soda for about 25 cents. That is water plus flavoring. If you are a sparkling water or seltzer drinker, you can make an entire liter without flavoring for about the same amount.
My father loves sparkling water. He used to buy crates of sparkling water from the super market. When I showed him our machine and how much he could save, he was hooked.
For us, the soda maker machine also gives us control over what we eat. I like to create my own flavoring for the sodas. Sometimes adding a little juice or a few tea bags. But Sodastream also makes some wonderful flavor syrups. I counted over 25 different options. They are available in both regular or diet versions.  You’ll find all your favorites, cola, root beer, lemon lime, ginger ale, and a large variety of fruit flavors. I’m particularly fond of the Zero Cola flavor (comparable to a well-known brand). They also have an energy drink mix, but I haven’t tried that one yet.
Here is a wonderful short demo of the Sodastream soda maker machine on YouTube.
I recommend buying a soda maker machine as part of a kit. You will get the base unit, a CO2 charging canister (good for 60 liters), a reusable plastic bottle, and an assortment of flavor syrups. It is all you need for several months of soda or sparkling water. For slightly more, you can buy a kit that includes three CO2 charging canisters. This one makes the most sense to me because you can always keep one as a spare while you send two back for a refill.
youtube
The soda maker machine uses refillable CO2 canisters to carbonate your water. They are available in two different sizes, one is good for approximately 60 liters of water. The other is good for about 110 liters. The larger size only works in certain models. So, check which one as this feature before your make your purchase. As of this writing, the Fountain Jet model and Edition1 support the larger canisters.
I like the reusable canisters. Again, there is no waste or inconvenience. When it is time to order a refill, you simply exchange it for a new one. How you exchange it depends on where you live.  First you order the refills. Then you either leave it on your doorstep for a replacement, or you will receive replacements in the mail along with postage paid return boxes. We use the postage paid return boxes in my area and have had no problem. We simply call UPS for a pickup when we are ready.

Sunday 6th September 2020
We went to Rockies Bar, Playa Flamenca to meet a friend....
Well, a funny old week. Last weekend we were awake a lot of Saturday night, I couldn’t sleep because the neighbours were playing salsa music (very quietly) until all hours. They had been playing it loudly for a couple of hours early evening and it got both of us completely wound up. By the time we went to bed it was quieter but I had got myself in a state, everything was bad! We were thinking of moving, soundproofing the bedroom, you name it and we thought of it. So on Sunday we were pretty tired and washed out. We lounged around, looking at Rightmove, looking at noisy neighbour forums etc etc. We had a film matinee afternoon, with wine, watched two excellent films: ‘Whatever happened to Baby Jane’ and ‘Where Eagles Dare’.
Monday I fired off an email to our builders about soundproofing the bedroom, they’re coming next week for other jobs so will have a look. I also sent emails to Rascals, Jill, Crazy Ladies and Maria saying we were both resigning from Rascals and would not be coming any more. Cue loads of emails from people we like there saying how sad they were etc. Jill tried to make out it was nothing to,do with her and Dave phoned, quite upset hoping it wasn’t anything him and Pat had said (it wasn’t). I just felt relieved that I no longer had to do it all on my own and no longer had to put up with Jill being negative and mean. I phoned up Pink Ladies, a cancer group who refer you for a mammogram and smear test, and arranged to call in and see them, I don’t have any problems but it’s two years since I had them done.
Tuesday Alan went to Iceland and we both went to Spa, nicely stocked up for a week or two. We tried to change HSBC address online but failed miserably, ended up sending them an email. RBS I had to write a letter to, in this day and age, how outdated is that? Then we had to walk down to the post office to send it off. I WhatsApped Liz to let her know she shouldn’t be getting any more mail for us, we’ve been a nuisance for long enough, she always seems to be so busy with family etc.
Wednesday Alan had a brief chat with our neighbour over the fence, just exchanging names and pleasantries, part of our plan to get to know them a bit better and then mention the noise if it happens again. I emailed Studio 32 to ask about joining them, they meet in San Luis for rehearsals and they have quite a lot of ex Rascal members, in fact they were started by ex Rascals who fell out with Jill.
Thursday we got a taxi to Pink Ladies office at Playa Flamenca where I had to fill out lots of forms for my test referral. They were very pleasant, English ladies, and told me the clinic is in Torrevieja behind Habaneras (so only a bus ride) and the staff all speak English. While there we bought four books, two each as they have a charity shop attached. After that we walked a short way to Rockys Bar and met one of the Rascals, Mo, for a drink. We had a nice chat and I mentioned to her that if Jill retires (as she is suggesting) I would be happy to take over....I’m sure Mo will pass this information along. We had an Amazon delivery of more flavour sachets for the Sodastream, they are yummy just in still water so I am making up bottles of them to keep in the fridge.
Friday we had a bottle of wine and a film night, watched a brilliant Agatha Christie film, ‘The Witness for the Prosecution’ we both rated it highly. I contacted a U3A lady who runs a group doing Intermediate Spanish but she does it by Zoom and we want to socialise and learn, so not for us. We had a message from Dawn and Ernie to say they think they’ll be here from mid September for two or three months. It will be good to see them, I feel a bit like Suzi no mates at the moment.
Saturday was cleaning and mopping day, nothing very exciting happened. Appointments came through for my tests, 21st September and 27th October which is OK. Also an email from U3A, they have a different venue for their meeting, Torrevieja council are not opening the CMA building yet so it will be held at Hi-Life which is at Punta Prima, we’ve been there before to quiz nights.
Sunday we had a lazy morning, reading the news online, catching up with social media ad and reading our books. After lunch we shared a bottle of wine and watched two films, this is definitely becoming a (good) habit. Today it was The Illusionist and Gloria Bell....both very good films, we both really liked them.
All week we have been sticking to our diet, still losing weight successfully and without too much pain. Still doing Mr M twice a day, although we missed it Thursday morning when we went to Playa Flamenca. Alan has been writing every afternoon, he is working on refining short story number three. He sent off his poem to Writers Digest. I have been reading, knitting four rows a day, keeping social media going, answering emails, WhatsApping people and playing a card game. Yesterday I started on the tie project and am feeling quite enthusiastic about it.

unusually tired this morning. i dont think i have work this week until the weekend again but i’m gonna have to check in with teacher and stuff because this is the last week of class for the calendar year, and im gonna be stupid busy the days leading up to christmas eve and all that so if i disappear for a good chunk of the 20th to the 23rd then you know why lmao
still, im gonne be getting paid this week and i still need to think about what i gotta get for mom and terry, because i know terry likes both star wars and star trek but i’m not sure what i should get/make for him
mom is harder because she’s been kinda weird about what she wants for christmas and i’m like hey what do you want (mostly thinking about getting her new things for the kitchen to replace old hardware) and shes like “you dont need to use money to get me what i want for christmas” and im ok
im still thinking of getting a sodastream for the house because we keep buying big flats of soda water and i think getting something like a soda stream would help us save money
but i am wondering if they sell like 16 or 18 oz bottles instead of the liter bottles that come with a soda stream
