I just have so many Thoughts about this latest chapter of Frankenstein

How the Creature went from being totally selfless (helping the DeLaceys with no expectation of recompense), then through his experiences coming to the conclusion that no one would ever accept him, that he's totally alone and can rely on no one else, so that he becomes instead so selfish that he demands a mate - someone who he is deliberately asking to be created like him, to go through the same misery, with no concern for how she will feel, just so he can be happy.

I also want to consider how he (like Victor) is probably an unreliable narrator, and how I think the death of William was his turning point. He says he had already sworn vengeance on humanity, but when he sees William his first instinct is to take him to raise as his own. William's death is accidental. But here the Creature says "I gazed on my victim, and my heart swelled with exultation and hellish triumph"

Which, I find unlikely that this was his first reaction. He's just killed for the first time. I doubt his immediate reaction was glee. Now, granted there's no textual evidence for this, but my speculation is that he took a while to reconcile himself to his action, especially as it was (at least, according to the narrative) accidental. Perhaps he convinced himself that this was ok, this was good even, this was the beggining of his sworn vengeance.

And finally note that he acts in a way directly opposite to Victor - instead of trying to dodge responsibility and claim that he was driven by some malignant impulse, he instead takes this accident and says, basically, "I meant to do that"
