UNPROMPTED ASKS / anon / ALWAYS ACCEPTING ! We know Tails has had your back for the big stuff, but what about the small everyday stuff? Can you share a time Tails looked out for you that didn't involve world-ending stakes?

            ❝   AW  WHAT?  DUDE!  YOU  definitely  asked  the  right  hedgehog.  there’s  so  much  to  say!  man  ,  where   would  i  even  start?  ❞  he  was  beaming  ,  a  smile  bright  as  the  sun  on  a  cloudless  day.  already  his  mind  was  spinning  ,  circling  through  their  adventures  together  ,  big  and  small.  there  was  so  much  he  COULD  say  ;   memories  that  spanned  an  entire  lifetime.

      he  tapped  his  foot  on   the  ground   ,  parsing   through  it  all.  tails  had  his  back  EVERY  day.  always  had.  sure  ,  he  was   young  ,  but  he  was  one  of  the  most  reliable  people  sonic  knew.  (  and he  would  only  get  better!  )   tails  was  the  one  who’d  sold  little  inventions  and  gadgets  when  the  two  were  young  ,  and  sonic  was  barely  scraping  by.  they’d   bandaged   each  other  up  ,   kept  each   other  warm  and  dry   when    it  was  DARK  and   RAINY  throughout  the  night.

         more  than  that  ,  the fox  had  been  one  of  sonic’s  primary  driving  forces  to  PLAY  IT  SAFE  on  the  road  ,   or  on  any  kind  of  hair-raising  adventure.  tails  was  someone  who  RELIED   on  him   ,  day  in  and  day   out.  so  he  learned  early  on  to  be  ESPECIALLY  careful.  his  brother  was  his   ANCHOR  POINT.  the closest  thing  to  home  sonic  wanted  to   have.  someone  to  MAKE  ABSOLUTELY  SURE  he’d  come   back  to  ,  even  when  the  whole  world  turned  its  back.   (  in  that  sense  ,  maybe  they  saved  EACH  OTHER  every   day.  just  ...  by  being  around.  )

            he  snapped   his  fingers  as  a  memory  sharpened  into  pristine  clarity.  ❝   aha!  got  one.  ONE  TIME  ,  me  and  tails  were  roughin’  it  —   like  we  always  did  ,  back then.  anyways  ,  one  time  our  shelter  got  flooded  through  from  one   nasty  rainstorm.  tails  was  th’one  to  bail   me  out  ,   and  the  lil’   dude  was  half  asleep!  ❞  

          it  had  been  thundering.  the  rain  had  been  icy  and  cold   ,  shocking  the  hoglet’s   legs  through.  he’d  been   FROZEN  in  place  ,  heart  racing  as   the   mouth  of the  cave  flooded  with  water  that  rose  well  above  his  knees.  his   chest.  head  pounding.  ears  ringing.  mouth  dry  and  throat  painfully  sore  as  a   scream  lodged  like  a  rock   there.   and  somewhere  amidst  the  panic  all  he could  think  was   —  ‘TAILS!’   —   where   was he?  was  he  safe?   was he  -  no.  he  couldn’t  think  about  that.  

          but  the   storm  continued  and  his   legs  were  freezing  and  his  muscles  were  shot   and  numb  and  painfully  sore   but  the  water  was  rising  —  above  his  chest.  and  tails  was  still  MISSING  and  the  water   -  the  WATER.

          everything  past  that  was  mostly  a  blur.  he   remembered  reaching  out   his  hand  towards   the  mouth  of  the   cave.  he  remembered  glimpses  of  the  stalactites  that  stabbed  downward.  even  now  they  looked  like  teeth.  he’d  never  known  before  that  a  cave  could  be  so  frightening.            but  he   remembered  warmth  and  a  pressure  against  his  palm.  he  remembered  hearing  his  name.  a  whirl  of  gold  and  white  ,  and  cold  air   as  sonic  was  lifted  from  the water  just  as  it  reached  his  chin  ,  his  nose  ,  his  ears  -  and  then  being  plunged  downward  when  LIGHTNING  FLASHED  and  THUNDER  STRUCK  ,  and  they  were  falling.  landing  in  a  tangled  mess   of  limbs  and  dirt  ,  mud  and  sopping  wet  grass.

          it’d  been  a  thunderstorm.                but  he’d  been  brave  enough  to  save  him anyways.

         ❝  but  really  ,  tails  is  the  one  who  fixes  the  HEATER  whenever  it  gets  busted  ,  and  that  DEFINITELY  saves  my  hide  from  gettin’  too  much  hibernation  drag.  ❞
