hi!! i recently reread “maybe i’ll dance with temptation after all” and i have to say that im literally every fic you write your characters are so in charecter (especially steph!!)

so i guess my question is do you have any tips or tricks for writing the essence of the blorbos so well!?

Ahh, first off thank you so much!! It makes me so happy that you enjoy my fics and think I got the characters right <3 <3 <3 Steph is definitely really special to me bc I relate to her in a lot of ways so it makes me happy that you like my take on her!

One big thing I really like to do is revisit the canon material before writing something new, especially if I haven’t recently and periodically throughout longer fics. If I don’t have the time or energy to watch the whole NMT episode or musical I just skip around to the parts with the relevant characters. For example, when I realized Zoey was going to be a bigger part of the corruption au than I originally thought I rewatched Honey Queen for the bits with her in them. Then I just obsess and overanalyze to try and get down their manner of speaking, interactions with other characters, motives etc.

A lot of it’s kind of intuitive honestly, sometimes I’ll just vomit a scene onto the page and be like “yeah, I can picture them saying/doing that.” On the flip side, sometimes I’m like “eh, not sure if they would” and then ponder the age old question: would he fucking say that? If the answer is no, I can always rework it and figure out what he’d say instead or what circumstances might push him to say that.

Ironically, I think the biggest thing for me is not stressing myself out too much about exactly what the characters would do in canon and getting them just how the Langs would write them. I also think about what makes sense within the context and vibes in my story, what’s happening to them and the relationships they’re forming. Just kind of taking your interpretation of them based on the source material, running with it and having fun with it! And just being willing to try and possibly get it “wrong” - a lot of writing fic for me has been sort of learning what works for me through trial and error and that’s part of the fun!

do you have renames for all of the duplicate names? at least, the ones that would be relevant, like the two ashfurs. and two frecklewishes, i guess… is -wish still a valid suffix in your rewrite? do you have any “invalid” prefix/suffixes or naming rules other than nixing duplicate names?

I update them as they pop up! At one point I was going to try and rename all conflicts in one fell swoop, but then I realized it wasn't fun to do it that way. It's a lot more fun to wait for the conflict to come along, and give individual attention to that particular name as I rework their suffix.

For example, Echosnout trained two cats- Cloudberry and Milkfur, both cats with naming conflicts. I had a eureka moment and decided it would be really cute to fix both by having Echosnout give BOTH of her apprentices the -belly suffix! Cloudbelly and Milkbelly!

Besides, with how I rework CotC, some stories are getting unrecognizably redone. There's no point in renaming Darkstar (CotC) because Darkstar (MV) is getting their story anyway! I just combined them into the same person.

Here's my list so far! It also has all of my rules for renamings. I don't rename unless one of these criteria pops up.

Valid and Invalid Names

-Wish is still absolutely valid. I would have come up with really elaborate naming conventions, but I am trying to stick close to canon.

Besides, I really like the cute suffixes like -wish and -frost and -bright! I did once share some of the renamings I WOULD do, though, when my buddy @nightly-ruse asked the question a while back.

The biggest changes I'd make would actually be eliminating adverb names. I just don't like them for some reason? So Runningnose would become Blotchface, Spottedleaf would be Blightleaf. I initially was going to call Runningwind 'Stripebreeze' but the more I thought about it, I would totally call him Blusterbreeze or Galewind.

But that aside? I want to strange Olivenose specifically and Olivenose alone.

WHERE THE HELL IS THERE AN OLIVE TREE IN ENGLISH WILDERNESS??? IN NORTHERN ENGLISH WILDERNESS, NO LESS??? This is the MISERABLE land mass that Roman soldiers used to DESPERATELY write home about and dread being stationed in because there was NO OLIVE OIL because THE CLIMATE HATES OLIVES im CRYING

i usually keep to myself about hobby stuff but i feel like talking about curent-ish writing-related things with me. I had hoped that finishing those prompt-based stories earlier in the month would give me new momentum towards doing more, and it only sorta did for like, a few days :P But anyway, wip thoughts:

1 . for a long time since a little bit after th17 released, ive wanted to do a single story with the point being to just quickly play with and dig into the dynamics of the wbawc realm crew. Though that 'point' probably made more sense when th17 was still the newest game.. and also a lot of little things in th19 i feel like makes the ideas i've had look distinctly 'outdated' if that makes any sense?! ...well i try not to let that stuff give me trouble, but since that 'point' has become kinda moot in my own perspective, i think i'll probably end up just posting smaller standalone bits featuring the relevant characters? That's not really how i've ever published fics before aside from a few occasions, but it might be nice to start.

2 . since like, way early in the year, i had so many of these stray drafts regarding a story starring akyuu that's set in the human village. constant second guessing and flipflopping means i've thrown away a disgusting amount of typed words but. it's all progress! at least that's what im telling myself 🙃 One day... ideally before zun kills akyuu for real (or make her immortal, who knows)

3 to a 100 or so . so many other notepad summaries on my desktop that i think are fully formed ideas but i'm sure the second i ever start on any of them, i'm gonna rework all of them from the ground up :P include Another story about the eientei crew centering on reisen's apprenticeship under eirin, A longer story about the megumu's polycule having an adventure of sorts on youkai mountain, and a goofy idea i've had since like 2020 and abandoned half a dozen times which is about merry and renko meeting ran and then merry getting jealous?? It sounds even goofier when i say it aloud but maybe one day 😅

nop! certain groups of them have entirely different settings! 

 1. Fighting game: these used to be BNHA ocs that i repurposed. I really like them and their quirks, so to preserve them im creating a small fighting game with a small roster. The main plot is still very loose but as of now it centers about a tournament with a grand prize in cash and each member would like to win to use the money or the title of winner to achieve their individual goals. So far it includes Iro (iridescent haired girl), Gale (the big croc guy) and Suri (slime girl) + some background characters like other ocs that also were originally from bnha and are relevant to these main 3 (of my own and of my friends, hence why background characters) 

 2. the sk8erz: It shows the lives of a group of skater friends freshly out of high school and into college, focusing on their everyday life while they discover their place in the world as they transition into adulthood and explore their relationship and awful selves. It includes Ami (the black girl with red locs), Yugo (the guy that looks like every 90s boyband idol) and Yaro (the guy that wears a cap and looks terminally ill). 

 3. Monster ocs: Not really anything going on here. It's just an empty setting for my monster ocs. It includes Grecia (gorgon), Beatrice (mummy), Carlos (werewolf), and Levi (vampire). I dont draw them much, except for Grecia on occasions. 

 4. Starlight Watch: this one has a name bc i had to come up with something for university. I created the main 2 characters for a university design assignment. Originally they were intergalactic cop partners inspired by 80s sci-fi and cop action shows. I kept the designs, reworked and repurposed them as now royal guards of a clueless Alien Princess (a random design that i kept from when i was in middle school now repurposed and redesign). The story incudes: Teri (green guard alien), Bano (human cyborg), Navari (the grey alien princess) and Lyra Constella (pink pop idol alien) 

 5. Clowns: i just have one oc here and it is Kinga (the clown, duh). At first i wanted to make a circus but i knew it was not within my power so i only made Kinga and abandoned the idea. I really like her design, however, so i want to keep it around for when i find a purpose for her. 

 6. Magic: here we only have Omen Burroughs (a witch). It just focuses on how skilled but careless he is, abandoning the witch realm to go into the human realm to experience the frivolous, lustful life of a rockstar, even though he really isnt one. Also because he is obsessed with motorbikes and biker culture and is trying to build or at least customize his broom from scratch, but he cant find parts in the witch realm bc no one gives a damn about bikes over there. 

 7. Thieves: the main 2 were originally Soul Eater ocs. A friend and I made a weed joke about them and it went downhill from there. Their story deals with immigration, crime and corruption in the fictional american city of Vertwick. The characters so far are the ones in my header here! Nicky and Tobias (the main 2, both latino immigrants of very different upbringing), Lewis (a broke computer science student and hacker), and Diana (a promiscuous corrupt cop). 

 I might have missed certain settings but i certainly did leave out some characters i dont have nor a backstory nor a setting for yet. Theyre just designs that i made and like to keep around in case i find out where to place them.

let me summarize the plot for this decade old game

you wake up in the pokemon world and realize you have turned into a pokemon! meaning you were human before!? ur pokemon partner finds you on the beach, traumadumps on you, then you get assaulted, and your partner forces you to join a guild with them because they have social anxiety. then time travel gets involved and this grovyle dude starts stealing time gears and people think hes trying to stop time!! but no!! he's trying to prevent it!! and then this dusknoir guy who you thought was a good guy stops being good and is working under dialga who wants to stop time !! and then you, your partner, and grovyle gets sent to the future and everything's shit so you find shiny celebi to go back to the present and stop the world from paralyzing!!!! also you find out that when you were a human you were friends with grovyle and when you and grovyle went back to the present you lost ur memory and turned into a pokemon (cuz time stuff)

ok yeah, so to put this in a lupin context, lupin(zorua) and jigen(murkrow) are the protag and partner, who joined the guild purely cuz jigen had nothing going on in his life and lupin convinces him that the cool rock he found could lead to cool stuff if they join the wigglytuff guild and stuff

when the Shit Goes Down, they meet fujiko(vulpix) who is the grovyle of this au and they think she's the bad one due to zenigata's (who stays as dusknoir) manipulation.

and goemon is the shiny celebi, if you dont know celebi has a crush on grovyle and grovyle's also shipped a lot with dusknoir so its kinda like a cute goemon x fujiko x zeni couple hehe

if we wanna go in depth with my pkmon choices, i picked zorua for lupin because it is a pokemon capable of disguising as anything. jigen is a murkrow because of the hat and their tendency to follow. fujiko is a vulpix because it feels right for her to be a red fox. also ninetales just didn't feel right. goemon and zeni kept the og pokemon because i felt that it fits. also celebi's the only other pokemon aside from dialga that can time travel, so there wasn't much of an option to begin with.

in the drawing i have right here, lupin is a waddle dee because of their monkey-like appearance. but I've changed him to a key dee after that drawing because they unlock doors and are much more monkey-like than original waddle dees.

jigen is a waddle doo. there's no deep reason for this, he just really fits as a doo.

goemon is the same species as meta knight. they're both swordsmen so i decided to go with that. i tried keeping the knights notif for his design but with a more japanese feel, still partially hiding his face, and giving him gloves and shoes. i imagine before he became friends with lupin his body would look much more similar to the knight characters.

for the record my opinion on story mode splatoon 3 basically boils down for 'i had a TON of fun and the cutscenes/final battle were pretty spectacular and the music slapped, but lore-wise the missed potential is tangible and i agree it needs fixing with a sledgehammer'

like i LOVED it. the levels were fun, bosses were great and not at all what i was expecting, the final boss was visually super impressive, the new calamari inkantation still gives me chills to listen to, and im a sucker for Lore Juice Reward so uncovering the logs scratched a very specific itch of mine. it was pretty cool finding out how alterna played a role in inklings/octolings existing as they are now, and i feel like a lot of 'why's and 'how's from previous games were cleared up kinda nicely, even if it doesn't make a whole lot of sense in some cases (did alternas destroyed broken ass chromatophore-roof really just repair itself? why didn't the rocket fuck shit up again?). I don't feel like all the questions i was left with (and there were a lot) really ruined it for me at all, my experience was mostly very positive

that said dont get me wrong i had a lot of thoughts while playing and it had a lot of potential and there's a lot of stuff i would've loved to happen that just Didn't, and now it's been a few days since i finished and ive let my opinions settle a bit i'm still a little disappointed that not much of the stuff i thought was being set up actually came to light. i would've killed for more salmonid relevance, for one! i'd love to have a crack at reworking it for my personal canon ideas, to try and strike a balance between having it Make Sense and not changing too much beyond recognition, so maybe i'll try that later when i've got some free time to shake my brain out

lock all the doors is super interesting! its a song that's been with him for a very long time and one that, at least in its most recent iteration, he likes enough to at least put it on his best of comp.

i think where u gotta start with this ✋🤨 is to look at the original demo from 1992 (or 93? ive seen people say both. either way very very early oasis.) that originally sat unused until 96 or 97 when noel took p much everything but the chorus, wrote the monstrosity that is my sister lover around it, and set that loose into the world. lock all the doors was the same situation but opposite parts and 20 years later. BUT if you ignore my sister lover existing for a second. ik it's hard but hear me out. i think the original lock all the doors was incredibly revealing just as it was. before he wrote the absolutely ham handed chorus that is "you're my lover, i'm your brother", the 2 parts meshed together really well in that original demo i think. they have a very similar vibe abt like. something secret! about not wanting to be discovered. "you never notice you are blind/the dream i have can never be" v similar vibe of not wanting to be seen/noticed, or having something that must be kept secret, and knowing it will only ever be this way, you can't ever have more. and then the lock all the doors chorus brings that theme of like. escapism and running from everyone's view to be alone together in hiding. i think they fit super well together.

but anyways this aint about the demo or my sister lover and i kno ppl have discussed those to death there's really nothing else to be said about my sister lover besides. god what an incredibly bizarre song. i want to force him to acknowledge it at least once and explain. it's like a personal fantasy. anyways

lock all the doors (2015 ☝️😐) is very inchersting cuz why would he be taking lyrics about that feeling of being with someone and having to hide it away or keep it secret and reworking them to release so many years after that time had passed? i know he'll still release a song if it's good even if it's about something that isnt really relevant anymore but this one is weird because he clearly wrote new and Liam Centric lyrics just for it, that many years afterward,

like OBVIOUSLY we all kno "she wore a star shaped tambourine/prettiest girl i'd ever seen", it haunts me every waking moment, rent free etc etc. noel taking a song he wrote the chorus for when liam actually had that tambourine, and then writing that version of liam into the song like 22 years later im SICK. i do not need to mention just how many times noel made jokes about liam being a girl, wishing liam was a girl, wishing he had a sister instead. not even gonna get into that cuz that is its entire own insanity deep dive. but 🤔 makes u think !

"i tried to catch her every night/dancing on the road in her candlelight/but i can't seem to reach her anymore" babeee ur longing and loneliness is showing! this paired with the opening line of the song, and ALSO knowing just how old this song is, really makes me feel like he's longing for a past version of liam or even how they used to be together. it's just filled with nostalgia to me. he's trying, or did try, to reach that past version of liam and how they used to be but it just wasn't the same and they couldn't connect the same way anymore and he's still longing for it.

thinking about noel writing this chorus when he did in the early 90's is so 🥺. it's such a desperate wish for something that you couldn't ever hope to have in any real sense. you just aren't allowed. but sometimes love doesn't work that way and it's so incredibly sad for that reason lol. every time he writes about that wish to escape the world's view with someone and just be with them, alone together, it kills me. it's so sad :(

i think either this chorus was simply just good enough for him to reuse all those years later or, i would imagine to some degree even after all that time you would still wish for a perfect world where you could escape and hide away together and never be found. since that's essentially what caused 80% of the problems in the first place. again i think it's brought back up by nostalgia and a wish for things to be how they used to be. even if they were hiding and only together in secret behind locked doors with the lights off, at least they were together.

also i think the side by side of growing up sharing a bedroom with your brother, falling in love with him probably in said bedroom, and then writing a song about locking doors and getting down on the floor is very inchersting. makes me wonder if their door had a lock 🤔

this is where it gets juicy! and yes i had to edit this bc genius had the wrong lyrics! or at least i think so bc i dont own the album and am pure pissed abt that because i was halfway out of bed to get it and look when i realized i dont even fucking own it! anyways!

this part is super wack to me bc instead of speaking About this person like he has been, he starts speaking directly To them. the "She" he mentions then becomes someone else entirely, i rlly dont wanna go there but you can make your own conclusions. no matter how toxic and terrible it is between them, i don't think anyone will ever understand either of them the way they understand eachother so i get why he wrote a line like that, "she never hears me when i speak/i gotta find out where that magic sleeps" it doesn't mean he's like pining for liam over his wife or something, i think he's just nostalgic for that level of understanding and being known that he really can't get anywhere else.

"and i can feel you underneath my skin" YESS you are entwined forever neither of you will ever escape the other ur constantly followed by the thought or memory of him and vice versa. pining and longing for somebody to the point where they live so rent free in your head that you can feel them under your skin.

"and if we take our love inside" back to being hidden inside/behind closed doors with someone, because at least you have them at all! i think it's inchersting how noel's common view of his solo career being his ultimate freedom and happiness is contrasted here by a line like "cause i don't wanna sail on the ocean wide/cause we might never live to meet again" which sounds more like loneliness and the fear of him never getting this thing back that he's clearly missing. he obviously knows that they don't have forever if he does plan on fixing that at all. maybe being trapped inside, behind locked doors is better than being all by yourself and alone because at least you're locked in there with the person you love.

i don't think this song, or him bringing it back and releasing it this way, is a real true wish for that at all. more like a fantasy. when you're in a relationship like that for so long i can imagine it becomes a comfort and anything else might seem lonely/overwhelming or make you long for it, even if in hindsight it was much worse. it's just kind of all you know.

anyways yea in conclusion lock all the doors and thinking abt why it was originally written makes me very very sad let there be love etc etc

notes of a kh au of both evil plans successfully getting a sora puppet!!

some context, this is a canon divergence idea inspired by this thing I drew a while ago.

ok im absolutely thriving with this fic idea but first, there was a painful hurdle in thinking about how to rework the Chain of Memories plot for Naminé to go along with Marluxia’s plan completely, and that naturally would change a lot of things. Especially regarding Riku’s story plus Axel’s role and a bunch of other characters. It’s actually so intimidating with all these characters and their conspiracies clashing with each other, scooping all that up to transform that into a (hopefully) coherent sequence of events;; in comparison, Days was pretty simple to deal with the change. 

Anyway what I have so far is this:

Roughly decided that Marluxia, Namine, Sora, and Xion are the main characters. Riku and Roxas are in comatose states but still influence the story. Xemnas is the main antagonist naturally. Aqua and Ven become key players towards the end. Saix, Axel, Zexion, and Xigbar are also important. Larxene will be a surprise element. Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and DiZ are there for the most part too.

The original event that pushed Naminé to tell Sora the whole truth was Axel letting her go meet Sora. So for this plot divergence to work, someone has to intervene here. I mulled it over and decided Larxene should be the one to to do it, resulting in her attacking Axel. They argue in the midst of the fray on who’s the real “traitor.” Sora arrives and defeats them both. Larxene learns of Saix’s plot before she fades. Axel then tells Sora to trust his instincts and to fight off Marluxia’s schemes, before cryptically telling him to not forget their appointment on the clocktower for ice cream. Axel then “fades” away.

Namine becomes more convinced with going through the deception (though not completely) due to interacting with the Angelic looking Specter. She encounters this figure and is given some revelation into some of Marluxia’s motives. i’ll have to think a lot about Namine and how her desire to end her loneliness comes into conflict with her integrity, in addition to how she is manipulated. She consistently guides so many characters through the series with her insight, so that’s a trait i want her to grow into. I think she’ll be the one pulling the strings in the end..

One of the biggest changes is Riku’s reverse/rebirth story. Originally, Riku doesn’t fall into Zexion’s trap due to Namine’s influence and advice dealing with darkness. However, in this AU, Naminé is going ahead with tricking Sora, being absent for Riku. So Riku would lose to Zexion, who’s desperate to use him as a counter to Marluxia’s command of Sora. Though it won’t work out for Zexion in the end because Ansem would finally be able to possess Riku fully...

Which has got me thinking there would be a clash between Ansem and Marluxia in the castle. I think it would be interesting for two of these characters who have a guardian behind them to fight!? Somehow Marluxia wins, adding to his arrogance when it comes to Xemnas.

DiZ is now stumbling over what to do and the mouse would get sad at these turn of events; both heroes of the keyblade now compromised...which leads to Mickey thinking, wait there’s someone in the realm of darkness!!! this is now a secret mickey redemption story

That will lead to Aqua returning to Castle Oblivion to do pest control and finds Axel and Zexion scrambling about trying to find the Chamber of Waking. She promptly decides that Ven is no longer safe there and gets him out. She finds Riku replica and recruits him (might change this detail, forgot to say that Marluxia told Naminé to power him down prior. Aqua finding a replica could be interesting, lest Axel or Zexion gets to him first,,)

Also forgot to mention that Riku is now the one placed in the pod for him to sleep and not turn back into Ansem. (role reversal with sora woo!!)

Sora goes happily along with Naminé but despite all the memory rearranging is still wary of Marluxia in charge (thanks Axel). Something that’s interesting in CoM was how Marluxia told Naminé to destroy Sora’s heart, finding this last resort a shame and rather having preferred him unmarred. So this AU is just that, the plan with Sora’s uninjured heart (but perhaps...breaking his heart could be point reached...in regards to Ven’s heart hidden in there..)

Mar’s character is actually one of the harder things to address. So I need to think more but I want this story to touch upon his hidden memories as so many things will remind him of the old plight of losing a loved one. Mainly observing the interactions between Naminé and Sora, Aqua and Ven, and maybe Xion??? I want Saix’s search for Subject X aka Skuld to be relevant to this too. there’s!!! so!!! many!! examples!?!?!

As he remembers more, the specter haunting him becomes more smaller and human-like. The specter will talk to Namine more for the most part. This will influence Naminé to turn the tables against Marluxia; so you could say she will manipulate and influence him with her memory powers along with her insight.

Will he gain a sibling-esque affection for Sora and Naminé? Yes. Vaguely... I think Sora’s going to lose against Xion... so Marluxia’s going to have to take up the protective role much to his displeasure. Being around Sora’s and Namine’s hearts for an extended amount of time will be a factor in his memory returning and regaining a heart.

Much of his story is taking control back of his destiny vs finding what his true purpose is and what method he choses. I feel like his time as a union leader could contribute to him feeling qualified taking over the organization. Plus him having a strong feeling that Xemnas’s plan is b.s. which is of course, spot on. Does Marluxia become a good guy in the end? im not sure yet, but I want to say no for the most part. (oh the appeal of tragic villain protagonists) who’s to say he wouldn’t sacrifice or destroy anything to recover what he’s lost?

in regards to Xion, I think she’ll be the one in most pain oh boy. Roxas was asleep through the Castle Oblivion events and Xion left seashells at his bedside during that time. The discarded Sora memories, as a result of Naminé’s interference, will pour directly into her mostly.  Xemnas sees this plan working and once Roxas wakes, forces him and Xion to clash resulting in Xion successfully absorbing Roxas and becoming the perfect sora puppet. sorta 

Xion is at this point, still in confusion on who she is. Everything in her tells her she’s Sora, but the dearest memories of her own life so far is of Roxas taking her up on the clocktower for ice cream, and she holds on to that. Xion also has the discarded C.O. memories including Axel’s last remarks to Sora. I want Xion and Repliku to meet in this story.

Xemnas discovering comatose Ven will be a main thing eventually. Which led me to this image of Xion!Sora thinking Ven is Roxas ;-;

Up to this point, I still need to address how real Sora and Xion!Sora clash. It’ll probably be in the throne room, not unlike what happens at the climax in ddd. the moment I’m most excited for is Marluxia’s humiliation at these turn of events LOL that’s why i drew that joke comic for the most part! someone commented on the post with ‘GET OFF THE STAGE MARLUXIA’ and i was GONE LMAO

there’s more stuff (from my 10 pages of notes i made yesterday. it’s a small square sketchbook so it’s probably more like 5 pages) but i think this summarizes the majority of my ideas. Idk if I’ll get this off the ground promptly since the scope is so big 😵 but it’s a start!

Rob was sweet, as always, and very sad to hear we won’t be doing any more of these. He said he’s enjoyed reading them, but he understands not being able to keep churning them out. Even though we can’t do more, I’m proud of us!!

Let’s show Rob and the band some love by letting their songs inspire us!

I’m looking for BOTH writers and artists for this! Every project so far, we’ve had art/aesthetics/edits for every story and I’d love to do the same this year. Whether you’re drawing or making aesthetics or doing something else, WE WANT YOU. All art and stories will be put together, printed, put in a snazzy binder, and presented to the band at #SPNDC in November! (Anything related to The Station Breaks will also be included in the project given to Jason Manns.)

Here’s the schedule:

6/22/19 5:00PM EDT - I will post the rules and regs and open the projects up so you guys can start claiming songs. Only one song request at a time (though you can list a backup song or two if your first request is already taken). Once you have finished and posted your first request, then you may make a second request. (Note: Due to a mistake on my part last year, the fic for She Waits has already been written, so this song is not available this year.)

9/2/19 Midnight EDT - Deadline for writers. This gives writers 10 weeks, plus the US Labor Day holiday.

9/29/19 Midnight EDT - Deadline for artists. This give artists 4 extra weeks after the writing is done.

This schedule then gives me about three weeks to put everything together and prep for the con.

Here are the rules (below the cut):

Deadlines are final. NO LATE ENTRIES! If you find you need more time, let me know and we can try to work something out. I’m not going to make a deadline to sign up, but if you sign up the week before the end, you will only have a week to complete your part. If you want to do two, you must finish your first before you will be allowed to reserve a second song.

Artists: - You will be expected to work with writers so the art reflects the story. Whether you pick a song you like and get together with the writer, or pick a writer you like and get together on a song, it doesn’t matter to me. - If you’d like me to pair you with a writer, let me know, and I will match you up with someone. Most times, I have more writers than artists. If you are willing to work for multiple writers, I would be most grateful!!! In the past, I’ve had a pool of artists, and I tried to divvy up assignments as fairly as possible so no one artist gets all the work. - SEND ME AN ASK or an IM or whatever and let me know what you want to do. Whether you’re working with a writer on one, or willing to be part of a pool that works on multiple, just let me know! - When you’re making your art, keep in mind that it will be pasted into a Word document, printed on letter-sized paper, and put into a sheet protector in a binder. You might want to print out what you make to see how it looks on the page.  - You can post your art in your own post and tag me and #2019 Louden Swain FanFic FanArt Project or submit it to me through my blog or send it to me via carrier pigeon (please don’t send it via carrier pigeon, I have cats) or drop me a line and I’ll give you an email address to send it to. - I would love some original cover art! If you have an idea for cover art, let me know, and we can talk!

Writers: - Can be any pairing or ship, reader-insert or OC, or even no pairing, whatever floats your boat. Please no RPF. - Please no smut. Anything else is up for grabs. Or maybe just a headcanon kind of thing. - Pick a song and SEND ME AN ASK with the song you have picked to sign up. I will update this post with the songs taken. Songs will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. - You can’t write for the same song you wrote about last year. This is to ensure variety in the stories from year to year. In honor of their album, Splitting the Seams, if you would like to rework an old story, or write a new story based on a song you have previously written for, go for it! These stories will be in a separate section of the book, and the introduction to each one will reference your previous story.  - Tag me in your fic, plus use the tag #2019 Louden Swain FanFic FanArt Project. You can also submit your fic to me through my blog, or send me a message and we can discuss the pigeon and email options. (Really prefer no pigeons.) - You must use a Keep Reading feature if your fic is posted to Tumblr and over 500 words. - Your fic can either be a story based on the song or just have it somehow highlight the song. Since Rob will get to read these, I’d rather the fics be more relevant than just a song playing on the radio in the background, but do what you can. - Your fic can also be a part of another challenge, BUT make your fic relevant to the song you choose, please! (Basically, please do more for this challenge than having a Louden Swain song playing in the background.) - If I haven’t liked or reblogged your post within a couple days, let me know I missed it! - I will give your work a basic grammar/spelling proofreading before adding it to the project. If you would like, I can beta read your story for you before you post it, too. Just let me know!

Everyone: - If you would like to include a short summary of why you like the song you picked, especially if the song has some special meaning to you, I will add that to your submission in the final project. If you look at the last three (links are at the top of this post), you can see the kind of thing I’m talking about at the top of some of the stories. Please keep these brief, though.

And now, for something completely different: If you are interested in doing something completely different than a Supernatural-related story or art/edit, talk to me about it, and I’ll figure out a way to include it. Letters to the band or stories that are not SPN-related can be printed out and presented separately, and a list of links to posted audio or video submissions can be added.
