in germany it is ice cream but in poland pasta with strawberries (and sometimes with heavy cream) is a real deal

part of me REALLY wants to try it, just because... wow. i have to know now. but the other part of me is like -- don't do this to yourself because you saw it on tumblr dot com. please, please don't do this. pasta and stawberries are perfectly good separately, let's not ruin them...

'Numb little bug'

As guards started hearing the news about the death of Aeloz Smith, the prison became eerily quiet, unsettling Mageil. The residential areas were often quiet especially at night, but nobody dared to speak a word after Aeloz's own son killed him in the middle of the cafeteria during lunch rush.

It had come as a shock even to the one person who'd known Tyru best, the chief warden Jake, who was now locked away in his office with the rest of the wardens and their superiors as they discussed how to handle this.

Before leaving, Jake had said, "I won't let them imrpison him. They won't want to anyway. I just need to negotiate on his punishment."

His face had been sullen, disappointed.

Mageil remembered how delicately Jake explained Tyru's situation to him; cursed to live a life of immortality, given when he was barely a teenager, born to serve the prison under a blood bound contract with their god Keypi. It had been in place for 2000 years, he'd said with a soft, sympathetic voice, and the only way to die was to pass it onto their child.

Since Mageil had stepped foot into the prison officially sworn in as an apprentice, he'd been trying to befriend all of those who would soon be his coworkers. But Tyru rarely spoke to him, and if he did, he'd tell Mageil to fuck off back to his prissy little mansion where his family lived in Province 12. Mageil kept trying, and trying, to do anything that could break that hard shell of his, but truth of the matter was that Tyru did not trust people. He spent his meals alone, his training alone, did all his lessons alone or silently in the back of class.

He didn't even learn Tyru was a host until he'd snapped, and that was the same moment everyone else found out.

And then he disappeared. It had been three days now. Nobody else tried, or even bothered, to find him, and he never showed up.

Mageil had a bad feeling about it though. His symbiont, a three headed dragon, whispered to him that maybe Tyru had finally found a way to do. The head he'd dubbed anxiety, who exuded worry and fear, suggested that he went off to find someone else to kill. He didn't like that disgusting feeling it gave him, anxiety for no reason, and he scoffed.

"That's stupid," he said out loud, ignoring the looks from passersby. "You were a war general, don't play these baby games with me. Besides, he'd never killed anyone before this. I asked Jake."

'That you know of.' All three heads laughed in his mind, rattling his skull.

"Shut the fuck up. I'm going to go find him."

He slammed his meal tray down and left the table.

Most of the guards, upon seeing Mageil's enormous and terrifying dragon form sprinting down the hall, jumped out of the way.

He maneuvered through the maze of hallways in the dorms, glancing in every open room he could. Most were vacant. Even Tyru's assigned room was empty, which he expected, but had hoped to be wrong.

It was unlikely he left the prison at all, so Mageil kept his eyes and ears open. And though it hurt his head, he was able to sort of see through the eyes of all three dragon heads, and commanded that ability at will. His dragon complained about it, but with careful listening the head situated to the far left just barely picked up the sound of sniffling.

His hands trembled.

He stood in a pool of his own blood. The blood never stopped flowing from gashes on his arms.

He could not die.

He could not hear the voice of his symbiont. The poor sweet creature who he blocked out with a sedative he'd stolen from his father would have retreated to the farthest corner of his mind.

Domestic dragons watched him from the storage shelves. Some hung in the rafters the chefs used to hang garlic and dried meats. They gave him curious trills, none willing to approach the grizzly scene.

Tyru could only replay the terrible memories in his mind-- Aeloz giving him the cold shoulder since before he could recall. Food being withheld for threatening to report him. The arguments. Brutal trainings that lasted hours with little to no break. Getting called weak. Being backhanded and cursed out for talking out of turn, or at all, really.

The dozens of ways Aeloz found to blame Tyru for his mother's death.

How Tyru's hand wrapped around Aeloz's neck as he pulled out the knife he'd been stashing away for that very moment. Aeloz's eyes were full of fear and then relief- as if he'd been waiting to die this entire time.

Aeloz never fought back.

He dropped to his knees, gripping the handle of his knife tight.

Aeloz was gone, whisked away by an undertaker. He'd planned this for months. He felt no relief though.

What was going to happen to him?

He couldn't die.

He was forced to serve the prison because of his ancestor's mistake.

The first Aeloz. The first host to ever exist and cause the barrier to the soul pool to break.

Aeloz, a cursed name.

Tyru's breaths came short and shallow. Tears rolled down his face. But still he bared his fangs in anger and fear.

He stabbed right through his midsection, gasping in pain. His body shook and his vision swam but no matter how hard he tried to die it wouldn't work.

Death would be better than any punishment the prison and government could possibly think up for him.

/But he could not die./

Yanking the knife back out, Tyru leaned forward, pressing his forehead against the cool storage room floor. It was coated in blood from three days of this... /breakdown/.

What kind of prison warden would he be if he freaked out at the first death be ever caused?

He stabbed his middle again, for good measure he guessed, leaving the knife sticking out of himself as he curled up further.

The dragons frills stiffened and they prepped their wings for flight. Tyru's eyes snapped open; turning too fast to see who was at the door made his vision fuzzier and his stomach lurched.

He kneeled back over, propping himself up with his hand.

"The fuck do you want, /prince/." His words slurred as he became weaker. He wouldn't die, but he still felt the blood loss, especially when he yanked the knife out with dreadfully shaky hands.

Mageil stood in the doorway, a wide, shocked expression on his face.

"Why are you doing this?" he asked.

Tyru didn't have an answer. He got to his feet, wobbly, and tried to throw the knife at Mageil, who merely stepped to the side to avoid it.

The dragons above them trilled louder, some even jumping down to stand intimidatingly next to Tyru. They were a few feet taller than him, with more fangs and sharper claws than he could ever dream of, and in a split second decision he told them to stand down. They were the closest to friends he'd ever had in this god forsaken prison but this wasn't their issue to fight.

Mageil, stupid sickly little prince Mageil, didn't move, his glowing yellow eyes staring straight through Tyru.

Tyru gripped his midsection as more blood seeped into his shirt. His knee gave out, and if it wasn't for the dragon that hurriedly caught him, he thought he'd be face down on the ground.

"Tell me why you're doing this," Mageil said again, "if you can't even die."

"You're not supposed to fucking know that!"

Mageil took a step toward him. A dragon raised its wings. "I want to be friends with everyone I'm supposed to work with. I was concerned about you so I asked why you're like that."

"Like /what/."

"You don't talk to people, you sit alone all the time, nobody even knew you were a host until three days ago."

"Cause that's not their business," Tyru spat.

His bloody nails tried to find a grip on the smooth scales of the dragon to no avail. His other leg started to give out, his vision blurry, and he bit his tongue so as to not vocalize the whine in his throat.

For some reason, the dragons didn't move as Mageil approached. He reached down to roughly grab Tyru by his wrists and yank him up, lifting him a good foot off the ground due to their height difference. Tyru cried out as the gashes on his arms got scraped and agitated by Mageil's claws.

Tyru started kicking Mageil but that stupid man was built like a brick wall. His kicks bounced off of him like a ball of paper. The two foot height difference and build didn't help.

"Just fucking let me go!"

"Answer my gods damned question."

Tyru started twisting his body despite the pain in his arms. He tried to twist enough to slap Mageil in the face with his wing. "Like you'd ever understand wanting to just die! Let me go!"

"You think I don't /know/?" Mageil asked, unbelievable laughter slipping into his voice. "Maybe you'd know if you bothered talking to people!"

"I. Wasn't. Allowed. To." Tyru bared his teeth and kicked again.

Mageil's face fell. "What?"

"You fucking heard me."

He could barely get the words out. His head rung, his arms going numb. He was starting to slip from Mageil's grasp from the blood coating his arms. Whatever strength he'd had left to hold his head up dissipated and his head fell forward.

Mageil lowered him gingerly onto the ground against the cool scales of a dragon. Tyru wasn't unconscious yet, but couldn't keep his eyes open, and could only feel that Mageil was moving his arms around, checking the gashes on his arms and stomach.

Not to mention the scratches he'd dug into his own face with his claws. Mageil's stupid soft fingers brushed over them, making him hiss.

"Just leave me alone," Tyru muttered, barely above a whisper. "I'm not gonna die. I'll just wake up when the skin heals and blood replenishes and move on."

"...you've done this before?"

Tyru stayed quiet. He just didn't have the energy to talk anymore.

He felt himself get jostled around, picked up behind his back and knees as if he weighed nothing. He whined.

"They're gonna put me in my family's own prison," he slurred.

"Jake's making sure they don't. He doesn't think they will so he's looking for alternatives to deal with it. Talk to me if you can."

Alternatives? His heart beat faster.

"Don't have anything to say..."

Mageil hummed. Tyru could feel Mageil's arms trembling.

A young man pampered and spoiled growing up. He wasn't used to seeing someone act like this, let alone blood probably, is all Tyru could think.

"All anyone knows of me is that I was the sick prince," Mageil says absentmindedly. Tyru groaned. "But they never saw that behind the scenes I never saw my parents. My father divorced my mother for giving him a sickly child and I didn't even meet my father until I was almost six. I was taken care of by a hired nanny. I was sick because they didn't know I was a poison host at first and the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong. When my father remarried, my step mother was cruel to me. My half brother was cruel to me. They only started talking to me when my rare symbiont manifested."

"Spare me the exposition."

"You won't talk so I will."

"Motherfucker just shut up."

"Mm...I don't think I will. You insist I don't know what it's like to want to die when I very much do."

"Shut up," Tyru whined.

He didn't get to hear anything else Mageil said. Exhaustion clawed at him and he drifted into unconsciousness.

"He'll be fine," the doctor, Azel, said as he walked out from a back room, having just spent the better part of an hour fixing up Tyru. He tossed his gloves into a trash nearby and sat down heavily at his desk, holding his head in one hand. He looked at the notes Mageil had written for him. "I can't discuss private information. All I can really say is that it will take a day or two for him to wake up, if you want to come visit him."

Mageil's face fell. "I don't think he'd want me to."

"Jake already gave the order that he's to be put on leave for an undisclosed amount of time." Azel sighed. His black jaguar ears flicked. "Once he's able to stand on his own and get the stitches removed, he won't he back for a long time."

"Can I visit him now?" Mageil asked.

Azel was quiet at first. "Do you really want to?"

"I mean what I said," Mageil insisted, already standing up.

He walked past the silent doctor and went into the back rooms without permission, where some large rooms were sectioned off for injured guards being tended to and others were fully private. One door was propped open, the inside illuminated by a dim, warm lamp.

Tyru, one of the smallest people Mageil had ever met, looked dwarfed in the hospital bed made for people much larger than him. Unlike other patients Mageil had passed, he only had a single IV with no other medical devices attached. Pain meds, he guessed, because Tyru was right-- he wasn't going to die. Better to use most of the resources elsewhere, right?

He stood next to the bed, stoney faced and silent. Tyru looked peaceful, more so than Mageil had ever seen him, almost cherub-like with his round face and small proportions. He was pale and cold though, like a living corpse, breathing slow and shallow.

It took almost a week for Tyru to wake up. Mageil visited every day after his lessons until he walked in, just as surprised to see Tyru awake as he was to see someone walk in the door.

The color had returned to his face and the pain meds were gone. His blue eyes were bright and vibrant as they stared each other down. Thick, fresh bandages covered his arms up past his elbows. Bandaids stuck to three spots on his cheeks.

"Oh fuck me," Tyru snapped. He dropped his food onto his tray in protest. "You're like a rat that just won't go away!"

Mageil only smiled. "We're coworkers. You'll have to work with me until we retire. Or I die."

"Fuck," Tyru said under his breath.

The Smith family had lived in a large manor for generations now, but as they started to despise the curse more, they had less and less children. Tyru wasn't able to visit his home often until now, greeted by dust, cobwebs, and hundreds of packed up boxes full of memorabilia from generations past.

He didn't know why his father or his grandmother boxed it all up, but it was just him now to do with them as he pleased.

The last direct descendent of Aeloz the first who worked in the prison, all alone at home.

There was no trial as he expected. It wasn't often a warden was killed by someone in the prison itself and usually if one died the apprentice took over. But because of the situation, one of the on call wardens stepped in to fill the job as Tyru was put under a leave of absence.

His superiors asked a lot of questions. Namely about how he was treated, but he kept it short and sweet. They didn't say much about it, but since he was still here and not locked up, he decided not to complain.

They gave him stipulations though.

They didn't want a future warden like him, but since he was born to serve the prison, they let the local psychiatrist decide what to do with him.

1) no sharp objects without supervision

2) no alcohol

3) no recreational drugs or symbiont sedatives

4) monitored medications

Tyru hated it. But how could he possibly say no?

Multiple guards had come with him and spent the better part of a day unboxing everything and confiscating whatever they considered a sharp object. Aeloz's old stash of cheap alcohol was trashed. By the time they left almost everything was unpacked and not put in their correct places. He opted to just go to bed.

He wondered if, had he been born into a normal province under normal circumstances, he would've been left alone. He felt infantilized, like he'd never had a life under his superiors anyway, merely patted on the head like a dog for being unable to die. A curse that they salivated over, because it meant they could use him for whatever they wanted with little to no bad PR.

A few weeks into leave, Tyru found himself sitting at the kitchen table across from Mageil and Samantha, one of their other apprentice coworkers. The dim lamp above them barely lit up the kitchen and he had some easy snacks tossed into the center of the table.

He never had anyone visit before. They stayed for a few hours despite the awkwardness, and Samantha had brought him new coffee and snacks he couldn't get in town or in Scarlet City. Since she couldn't fly, she ended up heading back home earlier than Mageil, and Tyru suddenly felt...exposed under his stern gaze.

Tyru coughed. "What."

"How are you feeling?" Mageil asked. His voice was surprisingly soft and genuine.

The question he was dreading. "I'm fine. I'm not going to try and kill myself again right now if that's what you're asking."

"Right now?" Mageil whined hopelessly.

Tyru held his hands up in surrender. "I swear right now I'm fine." He held out his arms with the gnarly healing gashes and lifted his shirt to show him the stab wounds. Mageil made a face. "I'll be healed soon. They...have me on a lot of medications. Antibiotics n...shit, I guess. You know."

"You don't have to tell me. It's okay."

They fell into an awkward silence. Tyru never really talked this much before, and let his mind drift off to talk with his symbiont as he waited to see what else Mageil might say.

Nothing came.

Tyru suddenly became interested in picking at the edges of the scabbing on his arms and between his scales. Mageil puffed out his cheeks, exhaling slowly. He tapped his hands on the table surface.

"Do you want me to visit more often?" Mageil asked hesitantly. "I mean- I'll visit anyway but I want to hear you say yes."

"Why are you so fuckin obsessed with me?"

"I thought we could be friends. It's not...fair that Aeloz did that to you. It doesn't have to stay like that."

"You're not my therapist."

"Come on, man!"

Tyru clicked his tongue. "Fine. Not like I'm fucking doing anything anyway."

"Do you want me to bring anything from Scarlet City? I can hit it on my days off."

"I don't want anything." He wasn't allowed to really want anything. He stared blankly at Mageil. "Surprise me. If you want. Or something."

Mageil pushed his chair back and stood up, clasping his hands together. "I'll see you next week then alright?'

"I guess. Get out before you make me sappy you asshole."

Pop Star Wars AU: Waking

Drabble set in this au which I wrote way back a few weeks ago.

Back then, I had only recently decided to look up my tumblr password for a third attempt at being an appreciative fandom community member instead of just trying to think really hard at internet strangers, and maybe shout into the void a little. (But there’s like, several people here now??? How did you even find me on the internet? )

Anyway I have since learned how to spell Anakin’s name and insert links. Also that if you resize your window while typing directly into tumblr everything disappears.

Self Indulgent Crack Pop Star Wars Time Travel Fixit (star wars au no 3):

After several years of exile in the Jundland Wastes, Ben Kenobi had not quite finished mentally unpacking the decades of mistakes, grief, and failure that had led him to the desert. It was the work of a lifetime, and some days were harder than others. But after several forays in and out of alcoholism, spice addiction, and every other form of geographically-accessible self-destruction, he could at least say that some days were easier. 

The process was no doubt made more difficult by the abject solitude. Unlike the chaotic years that constituted the fall of the Republic, he had all too much time to think, and no one around to share his thoughts with. He closed his eyes in the dark of his hut, thoughts drifting between past and future. 

The past was as ugly and lovely as ever. The larger future didn’t look much better, but he could find some joy in the thought of tomorrow and fresh bantha milk when the herd roamed near. Owen was always much less begrudging of his presence when he came with an offering, and Beru would likely invite him to stay for noon meal where he would share in fresh cheese as Luke rambled about his plans to fix-up a junked speeder bike.

The thought of Luke’s happiness at the treat allowed him enough peace of mind to meditate more deeply.

He carefully broke off a piece of unfair-bitterness from his larger loving-grief. The bitterness he released into the force. The grief he turned over and soothed until its edges dissolved. He accepted it, now smoother if not smaller, laying it to rest alongside his hard-earned wisdom and unfinished poetry.

Tired, but fractionally lighter, Ben Kenobi drifted to sleep.

He opened his eyes to the first rays of daylight peeking in his temple chambers.

The room was intimately familiar. For a few years they were Ashoka’s, on the rare occasion she found herself temple-side and in want of privacy but not complete solitude. For a solid decade before her, the chambers were Anakin’s, though he was quick enough to accept the common room couch when Ashoka entered their life. And before that...they were his. That was his model rocket on the shelf, and his astronomical mobile hanging from the ceiling, and his robes scattered on the floor, though they hadn’t been arranged as such in this room since his apprenticeship with Qui-Gon. He sat up. 

Glad he had put energy into meditation last night, he used the lingering clarity of mind to try and work through possible explanations. 

Vivid Dream? No a quick pinch to his inner elbow debunked that, as well as the fact that the morning taste in his mouth was more the minty tang of denti-cleaner, rather than the saltiness of dried meat which he had grown accustomed to.

Hallucinogenic mushroom flashback? Possible, though it still wouldn’t explain the detail of physical sensations he felt, running his hand from the temple-spun linens on his bed to the warm-carved wood of his bedside table. He stood and did a perfect forward flip in place. Shockingly his knees didn’t ache at impact, but a drug induced hallucination of this intensity would have some sort of impact on his equilibrium, and he felt perfectly balanced, at least physically.

Force vision seemed most likely. Sinking into cross-legged meditation, he gradually lowered his mental shields. There was no whisper of Vader or Palpatine anywhere near Hutt space at this time, so the risk of reaching out was both manageable and necessary. Rather than the pure energy he personally associated with intense visions, he felt gradients of light, echoing ripples of emotions, and the unique solidity of force-imbued stone walls.

Heart beginning to race as reality set in, Ben concluded that he was, indeed, in the Jedi temple on Courascant. Even if he had suffered a complete psychotic break, his force sense couldn’t lie with such crystal clear detail. Confused unreality mixed with images of the past and future, sure. But this was the temple. It just was. 

He couldn’t make sense of it. Even if he had somehow been found, drugged, and transported to the heart of the empire, the rooms as he sensed them didn’t exist anymore. The contents were lost or burnt, the stone walls destroyed and rebuilt into a wing of the Imperial Palace.

Obi-Wan sank deeper into the force and reached out further, searching for he answers. In general, the force felt light, the shroud of the darkside was a hazy irritation in the distance, not a smothering blanket. The manifold wounds in the force formed by senseless war and destruction were absent. Also gone were the tang of grief and loss that he had begun to associate with the temple’s signature even before- even before the purge.

The temple was also full to the brim with tens of thousands of lights in the living force. He reached out to them incredulously, nudging many just to feel a living, sentient response. The last time he remembered feeling so many Jedi all in the temple at the same time was...well, when he still lived in this room. The nearest living force sensitive presence was achingly familiar, though notably and unquestioningly living. He could feel the presence moving nearer and retreated, pulling himself fully back into his body.

The only explanation that fit was that he had suddenly, miraculously, inexplicably traveled back in time. 

He half ran to his closet, opening the door with a yank to reveal a full length mirror. A once-familiar, 25-year old padawan stared back with visible shock. Of course his knees didn’t hurt, this body hadn’t yet been broken and abused by knighthood, war, and Tatooine. His hands examined the smooth chin, the unwrinkled forehead, and even the terrible, terrible haircut.

Obi-wan startled at a knock at his door, freezing in place. 

“Padawan?” Came Qui-Gon Jinn’s voice softly, “I don’t intend to pull you out of meditation prematurely, but is there a particular reason you were sprawling over the temple this morning? You startled me somewhat. To be perfectly honest, I think you might have alarmed a few people around the temple, I’ve already received messages from council telling me to reign in my padawan before he hurts himself.” 

Qui-Gon sounded more amused than reprimanding, and he paused, clearly waiting for an answer. 

Obi-Wan’s jaw locked up. What could he say? How could he even to begin to explain what had happened? He sank to floor, head pressed to the ground and tears silent streaming down his face. All he could do was offer to the force were words, the feelings could come later Thank you. Thank youThankyouthankyouTHANKYOU. 

For whatever reason, the force had granted him a second chance. Regardless if it was intended as punishment, gift, or inexplicable chance, he would build a better future than the one he left behind. 

“Padawan?” Qui-Gon knocked again, sounding concerned, “Are you alright? If you don’t answer I’m going to have to come in there.”

And all at once he had flipped back to not enough time to think and too many people needing his attention.

Obi-Wan managed to open his mouth to call out some meaningless assurance, intent on gaining more time to process the fantastical situation. Much to his surprise, what came out was a strangled, keening sob. Qui-Gon burst through the door. 

Obi-Wan realized, with a little embarrassment, that he was curled up practically into a ball on the floor, tears streaming in a shocking waste of water. It was probably not the most dignified, nor the most reassuring position for Qui-Gon to walk in on. 

Qui-Gon rushed to his side, pulling him up by the shoulders to frantically look him over. “What happened?” he demanded, “Are you hurt? Did something go wrong while you were meditating and you were trying to reach out for help?”

Obi-Wan smiled at the barrage of questions. He had almost forgotten that on the rare occasions when Qui-Gon’s perfect Jedi serenity broke, he became somewhat counterproductively intense. 

“I’m alright, Master,” he tried to say, but what came out was more of a croaking, “MNNrlerR.” 

This predictably, only increased Qui-Gon’s concern.

To Obi-Wan’s deep consternation, he was dragged by Qui-Gon to the healer’s wing. He remained quiet during the examination, not wanting to risk whatever was compromising his ability to speak. It could be readjusting to his younger body, or a manifestation of the admittedly great emotional shock he was still experiancing. Or simple lack of practice- it had been several weeks since he had last heard the sound of his own voice, from a certain point of view.

After finding no physical cause for concern, Master Vyr asked Qui-Gon to wait outside.

“Padawan Kenobi?” The Tortugan healer asked gently. “Your Master seems quite insistent that something is wrong. Would you like to discuss what the problem seems to be?”

Obi-Wan cleared his throat and was relieved when his voice came out smooth and under his control, “I’m alight, Master. I apologize for disruption. I experienced a... particularly strong vision when I woke up this morning, and temporarily lost control over myself. I’m already feeling more stable. I believe I simply need to meditate on what I’ve seen. My master unfortunately came in while I was dealing with some of the emotional aftermath.

“I see,” Vyr responded. “Did you experience this vision before or after your expansive foray into the force? I understand a surprising swath of the temple felt your presence press against them this morning.”

“I reached out after,” Obi-Wan admitted. “My vision was...particularly dark. I felt the need to ground myself with the presence of other Jedi. I’ll make certain to apologize to anyone I may have startled.”

Eventually he was cleared with the strict instruction to stick with shallow meditation for the next few days as well as a strong recommendation to seek out Master Yoda, Sifo-Dryfas, or one of the other Master known to experience visions. 

Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan walked back to their quarters together in a peaceful quiet. It wasn’t until the door clicked behind them that Qui-Gon rounded on his padawan.

It won’t come to pass. I might not know his every tool, but I do know Sideous’s biggest secret, and I WILL stop him.

“Will you not tell me what you saw?” Qui-Gon asked, sounding somewhat hurt.

Obi-Wan poured the hot water carefully, feeling torn. If he told Qui-Gon everything... would he believe him? Perhaps, eventually but...what would become of Anakin, still just a boy? And the moment he knew of Palpatine’s evil...he knew Qui-Gon. He would favor the direct approach, underestimating the sheer breadth of the trap the sith had laid (Obi-Wan himself lived through it and only began to understand long after it had closed).

“I saw...a great shadow fall over the republic.”

He sat at the table, relishing in the simple pleasure of pouring a cup for Qui-Gon and himself from a shared pot.

Qui-Gon cradled his mug in his hands. “I see. Nothing specific?”

“Your death. At the hands of a tool of darkness. You ran ahead...” Obi-Wan took a scorching sip to stop himself. “It was foolish. Unnecessary. And I was forced to fight alone without you.

Qui-Gon set the tea down to stroke his beard in thought. “Well. I have no great desire to die. While I make no promises, I will endeavor to avoid leaving you behind ‘unnecessarily.’”

“Thank you,” Obi-Wan replied, over sincere. 

They drank in peaceful silence. It was interrupted by a shrill noise from Qui-Gon’s comm.

“I’ve just received a personal request from the Chancellor to immediately assist in negotiations with a Trade Federation blockade around Naboo. Are you feeling up to it?”

“You know, I think I am”

Hello! If you don't mind me asking, are you planning on watching House of the Dragon? I'm personally unsure about it. I was cautiously optimistic about it since D&D are not involved, but the recent casting news have been ugh disappointing imo. What do you think?

Hey anon! Sorry to say I kind of mind you asking because my inbox is still closed (to everyone except my secret Santas, which is why the ask page is accessible at all), but then I realized it’s possible if you’re on the mobile app only, you haven’t seen said note in my askbox, or my FAQ, or anything of the sort. And with older metas of mine being reblogged recently, it’s possible you may be confused. (I hope you’re on mobile only and not just ignoring my requests.) So I wanted to inform you of that... but also, y’know, I kind of wanted to make a post about the HotD cast anyway? And this ask is as good a prompt as any... so, you’re lucky, but please don’t push your luck. ;)

So, straight up: I currently have no plans to watch House of the Dragon. HBO is not getting any of my goddamn money, I don’t trust like that. And hunting down illegal livestreaming sites is a pain in the ass and I regret ever doing it for GoT, as well as regretting getting drunk every weekend enough to dampen my senses to ever tolerate that show. Yeah it’s different showrunners and writers, I know. It’s still (mostly) the same executives at HBO and even if the pervert producer is gone (or is he?), you know they still just want to sell sex and violence and dragons to an audience that thinks fantasy is for geeks.

Also, considering that Fire & Blood’s story of Dance of the Dragons has very little actual narrative or dialogue, and the historical record is deliberately untrustworthy, that gives them pretty much full rein to do whatever they like with the story and characterization and words without even being slightly obliged to GRRM at all. Furthermore, since the story is wholly political with virtually none of the magical side of ASOIAF (excepting dragons), and honestly does not have much in the way of themes or depth that main ASOIAF or even D&E has, I think it will be very hard for an adaptation to show even those brief sparks of quality that used to make me wistful GoT couldn’t be that good all the time and eventually just made me frustrated and depressed. Note I do like the history and characters of the Dance despite myself, despite its many many many textual issues, but I don’t need to see an adaptation, I have a very visual imagination. I don’t watch a lot of television to begin with, I don’t see why I should start again with this.

However, I’m not going to avoid spoilers or discussion, and I’ll probably follow the show the tumblr way, through gifsets and video clips and people bitching on their blogs etc. If, somehow, by some miracle of good screenwriting and acting, the show manages to transcend its source material, I’m sure I will be informed. And then, if and only if then, I may try watching. (Without, of course, giving HBO any of my goddamn money.) We shall see.

(Though I certainly don’t know why anyone in Targ standom would ever watch a Dance adaptation considering almost every Targaryen and everyone else in the story is terrible except Helaena and the kids, and considering how the story ends, unless y’all are gluttons for punishment? (I do not comprehend hatewatching, sorry.) It’ll probably be fun at first to see the adventures of those “precious silver douchebags” (to borrow a friend’s tag), but eventually rocks fall, everyone dies, including the girlboss you know you’ll hope the story will be changed enough that she succeeds. Just letting you know now, she won’t.)

That said. I’ve been following the casting news and I think the hate/fear/wild screaming is entirely overblown. Yeah, I know, but wait, just listen. On Friday I officially welcomed @naomimakesart to the “favorite character is now played by an actor who looks nothing like most fanart and is mostly known for wildly different roles” club. I still remember that day in September 2009 when my brother texted me “yarp”... and that right there is the thing. Yeah. Rory McCann looks very little like most pre-GoT Sandor fanart... but many fans grew to love him anyway. (There are some who never did, of course. And yeah the character went off the rails by the end, but truly, who didn’t. Having seen his audition, having spoken to him and heard him wistfully talk about book scenes he loved, I’m convinced if Rory had only been given Sandor’s actual scenes and such, he would’ve killed it. Sigh. Deep, deep sigh.)

And Rory isn’t the only one. Neither of the actors for Jaime and Cersei were considered “beautiful” enough at first. I recall very clearly people bitching about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (about his nose particularly?) because they had wanted Tarzan-era Travis Fimmel to be Jaime. (Seeing people bitch because current-Fimmel isn’t playing Daemon made me laugh out loud for both BEYONCE?! meme -type “why would you ever cast him omg he doesn’t fit my headcanon Daemon at all”, and amazing amounts of fandom flashbacks.) Lena Headey was “too square-jawed”, “too mean-looking” (since at the beginning you should never be able to guess she’s evil), “too dark-complected”, “too mannish”, not at all attractive enough. (Tricia Helfer was the most common “but I wanted” for Cersei, btw.) And of course “they don’t remotely look like twins, ugh!” Note, there’s receipts for all of this, none of it is made up. (Unfortunately.) Those two actors are just the ones whose casting wank I recall most clearly, particularly because oh how the turn tables.

Also. You know, there’s a post with Matt Smith and Mark Simonetti’s TWOIAF Daemon going around with shrieks of horror... and I’m finding it maddening in a “am I crazy? am I  the crazy one???” way, because Matt looks like the painting. Their features are not that dissimilar.

Same deepset eyes. Same cheekbones of doom. Same thin lips. Same protruding chin. Same high forehead. Same invsible eyebrows ffs. Matt has a squarer jaw, and a longer more rectangular face, and a wider nose, but considering that Daemon’s features are not described in the text, and this is the only official ASOIAF artwork that shows Daemon’s face straight on, I can for sure see why he was probably shortlisted to begin with. And that’s not even getting into to his role in The Crown, which I’ve heard is very well played with politics and palace intrigue... and if you doubt Smith can play seductive/roguish and/or evil (depending on how you LARP as a Westeros historian), or look good with long hair... well. I do not want to watch the movie, but this trailer is disturbingly enlightening.

And as for Rhaenyra... y’all know this show is starting at the beginning of the story, right? When she’s a teenager? Not a voluptuous MILF? Yeah, Emma D’Arcy doesn’t look like a Magali Villeneueve painting (though who does, good lord), but you know who she does look remarkably like? Harry Lloyd.

Same jawline. Same nose. Same thin lips. Same sharp cheekbones. Notably, same kind of sharp cheekbones and deep-set eyes as Matt Smith. HBO evidently has a concept of a “Targaryen look” that’s a little bit quirkier than supermodel-Greek statue-gods on earth, yeah, fine. But it’s consistent, and they look like family, and that-- that is good casting.

And yeah, in a few months to a year or so, you’ll see them in costume and wigs and makeup, you’ll see them in motion and speaking lines, and go Oh. That’s different. Never mind. And while people will make fanart of the show depictions of the characters and those will probalby get popular, they’ll also keep doing fanart of their pre-show headcanons, and those too will be popular. (God knows when I draw or visualize book!Sandor, Rory does not come to mind, lol.) Either way, there’s no reason to panic. We’ll live.

(Though will we live well? Got to wait on the writing and showrunning for that, alas.)

Thoughts on Episode 1

These musings regarding episode 1 of Twisted Wonderland is making the gears in my brain start working at 1am, so I decided to share my thoughts about the first chapter of the game to help me sleep. 😅

I’m on mobile right now so I can’t put the ‘read more’. Therefore, I will warn you right now that there will be spoilers ahead, so if you do not want to be spoiled, you may scroll past this.

Also, these thoughts are based on some translations I found on Tumblr for a select few chapters only, so do forgive me (and feel free to correct me) if I say the wrong thing about a certain part of the episode.

Okay, now that we have that settled, let me just applaud the game devs and Yana Toboso because it is only the first episode, yet it already told an amazing story that, despite the language barrier, had me invested.

I especially want to talk about Riddle’s character development throughout the story of episode 1 because the way that he changes for the better is done so well. It’s not forced, but rather, it was smooth, and it made so much sense.

Ever since they dropped the trailer for Twisted Wonderland and revealed the Heartslabyul dorm, I have viewed Riddle as a harsh, rather scary, dorm leader (and perhaps some of you have) who yells out the classic “Off with your head!” Queen of Hearts catchphrase and has an obsession with rules. And this impression somehow carries out in the first episode, when he punishes Ace for stealing a tart from the fridge, even citing a rule that states that no one should steal the tarts of the Queen of Hearts (he’s valid though, why the hell would you eat food that isn’t yours (well unless you share the family fridge), and what if someone so happened to eat your favorite treats without express permission?).

Riddle is feared throughout his dorm. It is clearly seen when that one student later on in the episode trembled in fear as Riddle scolded them. No one dares to question him because they’re scared of him.

That is, until a freshman named Ace Trappola, with his group of three other dumbasses consisting of another freshman who tries to be the sensible one but frankly shares the same braincell, a cat who views himself too highly, and MC who just wants to go home, enters the picture.

And Ace, much to Riddle’s anger, challenges his way of ruling during the encounters they have: the cafeteria and the tea party. He doesn’t fear Riddle, but rather, is angry at Riddle because he felt unjustly wronged for being collared and incapable of using a magic, a skill crucial in the classes at NRC just for eating a tart.

And he has a right to be angry. While I don’t entirely blame Riddle for being angry that someone ate his tarts, I do agree that disabling the offender’s use of magic is far too much.

What I find really interesting are these two things: the clips of Alice and the Queen of Hearts played at the beginning of some chapters and the names and titles of Riddle and Ace.

The clips of Alice and the Queen reflect the events of the story. The clip that plays in 1-22 is the one where Alice accuses the Queen for being ‘a selfish and nasty tyrant’ and was met with anger from the latter and a bunch of soldiers out to get her. This clip foreshadows the events following the duel between Ace & Deuce and Riddle, as Ace punches Riddle and yells at him for being obsessed with rules and perhaps not being a good leader (and probably other things that I don’t know).

As for the names and titles of Riddle and Ace, so we all know Riddle is the ‘Queen of Hearts’ in this school, and the Queen is the second highest card next to the King in a deck. Now Ace is the lowest ranking card in the deck. Where am I getting at here? Oh, not much to be frank, I just find it interesting that the one who is named after the lowest rank in a deck (and is also a freshman to boot!) is the one that challenges an authoritative figure.

But I’m digressing, so anyway~

Ace punches Riddle, Riddle goes crazy and angry, Overblot occurs, battle happens yowch

And the scene that proceeds after is a dream sequence. A dream about Riddle’s childhood, where we see that he was always forced to study and eat healthy foods by his mom. He was allowed one hour of self-study, in which he used it for playing with Trey and Chenya the Cheshire Cat and eating tarts. We see where his obsession with rules stem from and where his strictness originates from: his own mom and his restrictive childhood.

This is where we finally understand why he acts the way he does.

He really only had his mom to teach him, hence he doesn’t know any better that his way of ruling isn’t right.

We see why he gets so fired up when Ace gets angry at him. Because to Riddle, his mom was the ‘right’ one in the town, and therefore, by being the person his mom taught him to be, he thinks that he is the ‘right’ one and everyone else, especially Ace, is ‘wrong’.

So every time Ace challenges his way of ruling, it’s like a more extreme form of ‘my whole life is a lie? That can’t be’ because this was foreign to Riddle, and so his only response is to lash out at the unfamiliar and punish them. But deep down, it caused so much conflict for him, hence why he overblotted.

When Riddle cried (the baby!) after the battle, that was his cathartic moment. Years of restrictions that he could never express because he was taught to be strong and strict finally expressed themselves in the form of tears and apologies.

And yet despite this, Ace is still salty and demands an unbirthday party ‘as revenge’.

Ace’s insensitivity and hotheadedness has turned me off, especially in that moment, and I’ve seen that it has irked other people. Can’t the guy read the room? But let’s be real, if it weren’t for him, Riddle would have still continued his cold and strict way of ruling, and his dormmates would continue living in fear.

Also, may I just add a little appreciative note because I’m glad they made another character help change Riddle for the better and not the MC? Maybe I’m just not exposed to many other games, but it is refreshing that it’s not MC waltzing into the room and causing all these good changes, but rather, it’s another character who does it and MC is just somewhat on the sidelines.

Kudos to you if you made it here! I may have gotten some (or a lot of things) wrong, so feel free to correct me! Like I said, this was all based on translations... and a lot of connecting the dots with intuition!

Who always wins when they play Trivia Crack: Ah yes, everyone doing this ask meme will get this reference, totally... >___>; I had to look it up, myself and it’s a basic trivia with friends thing on a mobile app. Uh, so, I think Mey and Grelle would both be neck in neck with this in a modern au... Although I think history stuff is more Grelle’s than Mey’s and Mey would be a bit more better at Entertainment than anything else. But when it comes to stuff like that overall they both are very good and both very competitive! Who spoils the ending of books/movies: Well they both TRY their hardest not to, but we all know both ladies are big blabber mouths if even a tiny winy hint of an exciting thing comes their way. XD It’s very much torture if they are watching something, but one of them has seen it already! But they DO love seeing the other’s reaction to said thing in certain points they know about and have been anticipating their lover reaching!

Who always posts a picture of the other as their MCM or WCW: YRHEYDTFUYG 🙈 another thing I had to look up boy howdy 😂😂😂😂 Since it stands for “Man Crush Mondays” or “Women Crush Wednesdays”, the latter would be used in this case, and I mean... well... duh, probably both! Though I think Grelle is likely more vocal about how much she loves her Mey Mey on social media than Mey. uwu (Mey likely uses insta acc. for it’s original purpose, to take pretty pics! But doesn’t do twitter really..)

Who eats the last piece of cake in the fridge before the other can have it: htjftuygiu I can see Grelle being the sweets hog more than Mey, she likes sweets on occasion, especially holidays and stuff, but Grelle loves them more! A guilty pleasure I think of the red head! And really, Mey doesn’t mind TOO much, she just sasses her a little! >:3 (Which sometimes leads to some interesting scenarios involving convos like “Oh, I’ve been so naughty haven’t I~? Who keeps their partner up half the night talking about random stuff: Well, I think this only applies on rare occasions when one- usually Grelle I think - has dealt with a bad day, and can’t get to sleep, and thus Mey Mey doesn’t MIND staying up and listening to her, until she likely wears herself out. ;w; BUT also maybe, more in canon verse, Mey might stay up all night and need to talk and just cuddle too, because of her past as “Owl”, and thus the nightmares she sometimes still has on occasion, so she can’t get sleep. 😭

Who eats too much garlic and tries to kiss their partner anyway: jyfygiuhoij I can only see this weird idea happening if one of them is like drunk a bit and they’d had maybe a meal with garlic bread and they are all lovey dovey and maybe also wanna thank the other for the meal and date!! XD But I can’t choose, because they both are silly, cute drunks, probably. >w< (Mey just gets there FASTER ;3 )

Yoongi preferred the heat set to exactly eighty degrees Fahrenheit, which was utterly ridiculous. It caused you to toss and turn in a pool of unattractive, and possibly foul-smelling, sweat all throughout the night. Even more so, he trapped you with his own limbs, protecting you like that stupid dog from Tom and Jerry protected that awfully large and awfully raw steak. You’ve fallen in and out of consciousness because of it, surely waking up every thirty minutes while the man slept like a log.

But it was wonderful.

You open your eyes for the umpteenth time, assuring he’s still attached to the hip and planting a kiss on his forehead sleepily. What a dream it would be to stay like this forever, you think, tossing the idea away as quickly as it came. It was punishing as is and you dare not tie the noose around your own neck.

You scan the room, curtains drawn closed and tv silently flicking through commercials, casting a dim width of light onto the bed. It must still be pretty early in the morning, you assume, a bittersweet realization.

Enjoy the moment, you correct yourself, be happy that you were able to have this. So you peer down at him through foggy vision, his eyes closed and mean, twitching a bit enough that you suppose he’s dreaming of something himself. Nudging your face into his hair, which smelled faintly of smoke and peaches, you force yourself back into slumber.

For the first time tonight, you sleep deeply.

Wondering how the hell anyone was permitted admission after the venue breached occupancy threefold, you rub at the aching spot of your ribs that your neighbor unintentionally keeps jabbing. You attempt to peer over the sea of heads anyway, looking for that goddamned girl that dragged you here in the first place. Where was she? Why was she so short? Why did you wear heels to a concert?

Never did you suspect you would be pushed against barricade at 11PM on a Thursday, waiting for an artist you have never heard. The sweat that accumulates, quite frankly, everywhere was probably starting to stain your clothes at this point. The beauty of public outings.

“Y/N! Y/N! Right here!” screams the woman of your nightmares, waving maniacally more towards the middle of the crowd than you but nevertheless farther than you would like to travel in this density. You make your trek, apologizing profusely as full-grown adults glare at you for moving, oh help them all.

“I will have your head for this,” you yell into her ear, gripping the divider to ease the stinging pain stemming from your toes.

“Lighten up, you’re at a concert that you got into for free, for heaven’s sake,” Chungha pouts, bopping her head happily to whatever DJ was opening for her beloved. “I think you’ll like these guys, anyway. Really good rappers, up-and-coming and all that good stuff.”

“Yeah, if they even show up. This poor dude has been playing for over an hour. Do you suppose his fingers hurt from pressing all those buttons?” She rolls her eyes in a way that says, please stop already. You really just want to know.

If this DJ had any influence of what the main act would be, you would rather just leave, plain and simple. This wasn’t really your thing in the first place, Overwatch and Red Dead Redemption (not one, but TWO!) sounding much more appealing than listening to EDM’s Worst Hits. But Chungha was a sweetheart who you’d marry in an instant, and when she asked you to come and claimed she already got you a ticket because she knew you couldn’t possibly say no to her, well, you couldn’t possibly say no to her.

You even dressed up for the occasion, a mix of Instagram baddie and Tumblr aesthetic (a sum of words you’d never like to use again) smooshed into one oddly cute outfit, if you did say so yourself.

It wasn’t worth your time.

But then the music starts changing pace, lights changing colors and dimming and smoke machines going ham and you suppose it’s finally starting. Three men walk out, one with orange hair and a long but pretty nose, heart mouth showcasing the straightest teeth you’ve ever seen on a human being, the second slightly shorter, bleached hair styled messily and the hand holding his mic covered in rings, the final with a smirking dimple, leading them out and hyping up the crowd with a few welcoming words that you don’t quite make out.

“There’s three,” you state dumbly.

“Great job counting! Remind me to give you a cookie later,” Chungha retorts halfheartedly, much more intrigued by seeing these men in person, “The guy in front is RM, he’s their leader. Blonde is Suga. J-Hope is the sexy one—HOSEOK OPPA!” She screams as if she’s been struck with a spatula, eyes wide and focusing.

You like their style, you’ll give them that. RM starts the song strong, lyrics so quick and diction so clear that it sounds as if he’s rapping directly to you. They all bounce around the stage, people at barricade, including your friend, reaching out and bobbing along in synchronization. J-Hope follows suit, stage presence oddly intimidating and seductive concurrently, his body more fluid and powerful than any dancer you’ve seen before. You can see why he would be the ladies’ man, lying to yourself if you said your eyes haven’t focused on his hips more often than not.

And without warning, Suga bursts into his own lines, atmosphere changing almost immediately when he brings the mic to his mouth. It’s hypnotic, his words continuously stringing out without break, without a single beat missed. You watch in fear. As the crowd around you screams and attempts to chime in, Suga steps closer and closer to them, squatting down right in front of where you stand and finishing his part with a deep, breathy note. He sits there as both men and women (and Chunga) paw at him and for the smallest of moments, do you think, his eyes lock on you.

It sets you on fire.

Yoongi always made it a point to study the faces of his fans out of appreciation. It would be foolish to say he’d be able to recognize each and every person he’s ever encountered, but he knows you were one to sketch into the archives of his mind. It doesn’t help that you are the only one, mouth slightly agape and teeth biting the inside of your cheek, completely still and studying. For the first time in a while, he feels intimidated; self-conscious even. More than a listener amongst the energetic mob, you look more like a critic.

It makes him shiver.

I would be his groupie in a heartbeat, you think, no doubt that he too is infamous around women wherever he goes. Whatever the matter, seeing this enigma of a man was worth your whole night’s experience.

I love, I love, I love myself! The audience screams, bass intensifying as the other two reach for water bottles propped on the stage. I love, I love, I love myself!

J-Hope throws in some ad-libs, sipping from his water before chucking the lid entirely, Namjoon putting a hand to his ear to egg everyone on and holding his own water above. You still stand in place, astonished how ethereal someone can look on stage and you instantaneously understand why people barricade. Suga catches you again, still squatted in the same position, possibly too lazy to get a water for himself but lets his brothers do what they must, and grins subtly.

You must look absolutely moronic gaping at this man, tongue-in-cheek impressed and hands barely gripped around the bars while everyone else around strains to be closer to the stars of the night.

I love, I love, I love myself! Y’all player hater, you should love yourself!

And that’s when you get—at least, half of a water bottle’s worth of water thrown at your direction. Right in front of the newfound man of your dreams. Everyone else screams madly, acting like these gods have blessed their parched souls with water after days on end, while you now look a little like a wet dog dressed in a hoochie skirt. You shrug, wiping at whatever was worth attempting to dry and thanking the gods that your makeup wasn’t running.

“Oh my god, your shirt is soaked!” Chungha lately notices, head whipping back and forth from the boys to you, back to the boys just in case she was missing something important.

“I would sell myself for that man,” you deadpan, not even blinking towards her.

“Suga? I bet he would accept if you managed to offer it to him.”

“I would easily give him all of the money in my savings right now.”

“You don’t have a savings. Pay attention.”

So you did.

You relished in every part Suga had, finally gathering up enough brain cells to at least rock with everyone else. Every song was like a lucid dream, the concert high really resonating with you. Either that, or you were literally high off of how much smoke there was. Gotta love rap concerts.

Perhaps it was the luck of the opening song, but Suga didn’t make eye contact with you again, a beaten disappointment gurgling in your stomach. But instead of behaving as a kicked puppy and moping about losing every possible chance that the blonde devil would bring you atop the stage and dedicate his serenade of sorts strictly to your face in front of hundreds of people--well, the chances were nearly zero. We're not all winners.

Suga continues on, trying not to focus on the girl with the sharp eyes that makes him clammy to the point where his throat threatens to constrict on him, which isn't optimal. He finishes song after song with his brothers, taking long enough breaks in between to catch his breath and focus on the bigger picture: that there was an entire crowd to please and not just you. Besides, there would always be a pretty or handsome face no matter where he went, he was Suga, goddammit, he wasn't a high school horndog ready to pounce on every intriguing entity he just casually glanced at. That role was a style more befitting for his brothers.

 Upon your cognizance that this group was downright brilliant, the concert ends much sooner than you would have liked it. And just like that, the three send their love and are ushered behind the stage. It takes a while for the swarm to dissipate, interlacing your fingers with Chungha's to insure you don't lose her again.

 "So, I take it you liked them," she giggles, forehead sheen with sweat because holy shit it's so fucking hot in here.

"They are really... talented. I award proper recognition when it's truly deserved." Tired of waiting, you practically shove your way past the bodies, dragging your poor friend behind you and bee-lining for the entrance.

"Wait! Do you want to get merch?" You twitch your nose, not entirely opposing the idea.

"Are you sure you don't want to just hop in? I'll pay for you!" Chungha cries, halfway into her Uber.

"Sis, I live down the street, I promise I'll be fine. I'll call you when I get home."

"That's so far!"

"I'm walking away now. Go home."

She harrumphs once for effect before waving goodbye, Prius soundlessly whooshing away while your best friend sticks her tongue out at you in the back window. You laugh at her foolishness before spinning on your heel and making your way.

It was just the right amount of chilly, breeze cooling you down a notch. You bet your ass you would remember this night forever, writing a mental note to check out the group on every social platform there was when you got home.

 You skirt down a corner of the building, aiming for the route of your apartment--or, at least, where you think it is? "Sense of direction" surely wasn't the best trait on your resume. Walking down the dim street, you notice a few trickling souls walking in and out of the building, probably help from the venue closing up. It's when you see Suga, attempting to light his cigarette and leaning against a black van that you stop like a deer in headlights.

"Suga!" you point and exclaim like a child.

"... Wanna say that any louder, toots?" He chuckles, though, seemingly pleased rather than offended. He scoffs at his empty lighter, tucking the thing in his pocket and leaving his cigarette unlit on his lips.

"S-Sorry. My bad. Do you, uh, need a light?" you offer apologetically, digging through your purse to grab your lucky lighter, an embarrassing bright pink thing with Betty Boop floating in the middle.

"Thanks," he smiles, grabbing the lighter from your hand and flicking it to life as he takes a drag. "Do you smoke?"

"Not cigarettes. Honestly, I already regret offering that to you. That's a bad habit to kick," you sigh, taking it back when he hands it to you.

"Don't I know it." He glances up at your face when he returns your lighter, showing a regretful smirk but studying your face in the process. Well, hell, if it wasn't for the barricade critic.

"I recognize you," he continues, "you were up front, right?"

"Oh, god, I can't believe you remember that."

His heart skips at the match, blowing smoke out the corner of his mouth and pushing himself off the van. "You, uh, looked unimpressed. Got me worried that I lost my game for a bit."

"No! I wasn't unimpressed at all. I'm just a new fan, I guess. My friend brought me. I think I was just in awe, if anything. I even got this hood--"

You quite literally bite your tongue, wishing you could slap your face at the outburst, realization running over you like a train.

"You got what?" he presses, a sly curiousness brimming.

"N-Nothing. You were good. That's all."

"'That's all'? Geez, you're really putting me down over here, toots." He throws the butt and stomps it out, "Those eyes of yours really made me nervous."

Your eyes? How smooth of him. "Oh, I doubt that. You seemed just fine to me."

He hesitates to respond; what exactly are you trying to get at here? Sweet and sour, he supposes. It's interesting to him compared to the countless amount of substance-less gals that suck up to him to simply suck him. New fans certainly were feisty, he supposes.

"Do you live around here?" he asks.

"Are you going to stalk me? Yes."

"Well, if I was, you probably shouldn't have said yes before I answered. But luckily, no." He sticks out his hand, clad with rings of, you're sure of, soaring prices beyond what you can imagine for jewelry, "I'm Min Yoongi. But I guess everyone kinda just calls me Suga now. You can call me Yoongi, if you'd like. Can I ask for your name?"

You take his hand softly, hoping he doesn't notice the way you shrink in it because heavens that near-zero chance of meeting Suga certainly did skyrocket. "It's Y/N."

"Mm, pretty," he comments surely. "Well, Y/N. We're actually going to be here for a while, just finished a few shows here and there and decided to take a break until we can figure out bigger plans," he's talking too much, "Anyway, would you want to hang out sometime?"

You shiver in astonishment, what was happening here? What kind of lucky star flew over your head for this? Your goosebumps had goosebumps.

"That... Yeah, that would be great! Do you... Do you want my number?"

"Would love it," he declares, taking his phone out and setting up your contact without delay.

"Do you do this much? Snag a girl's number after a show?" you joke as you type in your number. Yoongi snorts.

"Girls don't necessarily talk to me in a well-respected manner, let alone offer me a light."

"Well, don't expect that last bit anymore. Smoking really is a pet-peeve of mine," you warn. Who were you to warn him of something you didn't like? Idiot!

"Yes, ma'am. I'll shoot you a text sometime. Was nice meeting you," he says, watching you nod and smile and wave goodbye as you continue on home, Suga's name printed enormously on the back of the new sweatshirt you bought from the merch stand. He bites back a snicker, picking at the hair on his neck before walking back inside.

ok so for once i’m gonna ramble about skullgirls in the tag where people might actually care so here we go

one of the first things that’s rightfully praised about skullgirls is how much personality there is in its character animations, but even the old concept sheets are worth a hell of a lot of commentary and carry a pretty impressive amount of insight to those that went unused [and largely overlooked], so i’m gonna have some fun and see how much extrapolation i can do for a few of them.  [all images taken from the official skullgirls and/or alex ahad’s tumblr]

first up: feng! feng had a relatively high amount of concepts done so she was fun to look at

feng’s movments are, in a word, fluid, and focus on carrying  several distinct strikes through one burst of momentum. 

  once she begins a motion, she’s always ready to follow up with another or two without needing to to give herself a new start point, but in the same token she can also land and balance at any moment during these movements. any successive points she launches herself from continues from/adds to the momentum of the previous, but it seems she never lets the inertia hit a point she can't instantly recover from or change the angle of the momentum with ease.  

a side thing that's pretty neat about feng is she almost always has those darn birds balanced somewhere on her, which means more often than not she has two horizontal and relatively stationary points throughout her movements and idles. there's not anything particularly telling about this, but it does lend itself to a lot of neat poses :b i guess it would imply she’s been preforming with them for quite awhile though...

as an acrobat, feng’s focus is on grace much moreso than power.  she's not a fighter by profession, but she certainly knows how to put her skills to use in combat [and will readily do so!] i wouldn't guess she's used to fighting a specific kind of opponent to have adapted to, or really even had much deliberate fight training, but some of her concepts seem to have a bit of traditional martial arts moments thrown in, so her fighting prowess may be self-taught, perhaps to accentuate movements in her performance. i'm not knowledgeable enough to know which style, exactly, but it's very reminiscent of air [rotational movements, ease of directional momentum shift] and firebending[dynamic kicks and stance changes] movements in atla.

now i don’t actually know anything about fighter meta or how to build a solid character, but were she in the game, she’d definitely be one of those characters that does shit for damage, but can combo to hell and back. she’s maneuverable and you’re toast if she gets to you, but she might also be easier to punish and have few options when it comes to ranged attacks.

next up, black dhalia

dhalia is really interesting because her sketches seem to to focus on snapping from one extreme to another

a mysteriously concealed stance to a swift sudden burst, dhalia’s posture is solid but poised; she’s always ready to spring to action and strike in any direction at a moment’s notice, and when she does she has TON of flair in it. black dhalia knows she’s good at what she does, and she knows she looks damn good doing it.

she also seems to have a knack for following up an initial action/hit with something bizarre out of nowhere that requires no further exertion from her than to hold whatever pose she just struck. she doesn’t usually put too much into any one hit; to get the job done she leans more into her ability to produce something damaging from pretty much any angle or stance. not one to be easily cornered or duped.

as an seasoned assassin, i imagine she's used to taking down targets with a great deal of variety in their strengths and weaknesses.[the medici certainly have many enemies and grudges, so those on their hitlist likely fall all over the place in terms of uh... competence]. she’s ready for anything. if given advantage, she waits to assess an opponent;concealed so as to not betray her plans to the target, and then delivers a precise, decisive blow. if ambushed or outnumbered, she looks to keep opponents at bay with her variety of gun...weaponry. dhalia seems most lethal at close range, but she has the tools and stamina to win a ranged game too.

In practice it looks like she'd thrive on unpredictability, plenty of moves that come out from the same pose super quickly, with slightly above-average power. not the fastest in movement or cooldown, but plenty of versatility to compensate.

on the third hand, we have annie, who is is…amusingly straightforward in all her attacks. 

annie’s pretty much the polar opposite of feng. she uses huge sweeps, fully exerting herself into singular concentrated strikes that are all about getting as much power as possible behind one motion. there is no stopping this girl’s momentum.

like dhalia, annie has a solid stance--but hers is for sturdiness, not surprise; for bracing and anchoring moves that have a lot of kick to them.

it’s hard to say exactly how much involvement sagan would have in her full spectrum moves, but in these examples whenever she uses him, it’s always a... fairly detached thing? like, when annie attacks, it’s either with the cleaver, or with sagan, and there’s not much overlap or synergy between the types of moves.  not that there’s any reason there should be; she utilizes both perfectly well on their own. the cleaver is also interesting because while she can, and often does wield it one-handed, it’s still got enough weight behind it to merit two-handed swings, though she seems to do dual-handed more if there’s some kind of effect along  the swing, like in Crescent Cut and North Sword.                                     

as a self-made skullgirl killer, annie’s targets have probably mostly been very durable and very powerful, but not incredibly mobile. to counter them, she looks to end battles as quickly as possible with defense-shattering strikes or blasts, while using her own mobility to stay out of harm’s way. float like a butterfly, hit like a truck i guess. 

despite also being an actor, annie has practically no deliberate visual flair to her movements [luckily for her, her sparkliness is part of the attack’s functionality so it doesn’t matter much if she’s actually trying to look cool and flashy, it happens regardless :b]. she has a lot of fights under her belt and takes this whole thing pretty seriously.

In practice I can see her being an agile hard-hitter, but slower to start and end moves than average, with relatively low combo potential. pretty balanced with options in terms of ranged/close combat

lastly, umbrella. she lacks a distinct fighting style so i have less to say about that, but honestly the sheer wildness of her concepts merits bringing her up.

her “stance” and lack of cohesion in attacks are at least indicative of one thing though: it’s clear she’s pretty much just a normal carefree little kid who hasn’t yet gotten any real fighting experience or training.

but even if she doesn't know much about combat, she does know about hungern, and how to utilize its, uh... odd capabilities [even if it’s... not always a very dignified use of them.]

like, i feel like these aren’t things a kid would immediately think a weird umbrella would be capable of doing, let alone pick up on how to do them. she’s had to have done some experimentation with it over the years to find out this kind of stuff. had someone taught her, i’m sure she would know a more skillful way to make hungern do its thing than literally just flopping down on top of it [but hey maybe it’s just fun :b] we know krieg is a renoir heirloom, so it might not be a stretch to say hungern was too, and if so it’s safe to say umbrella’s probably had it as long as she can remember, and she seems to have it with her basically at all times. she does seem to enjoy having and using it, though i’d guess she doesn’t  get much opportunity to really ‘unleash’ hungern like this, being sheltered and all.

anyway all that said, i think really the only thing preventing umbrella from being a true force to be reckoned with in-universe is some disciplne. not in the sense that sh’s a bad kid [though she certainly isn’t...exemplar either]; she’s got the willingness to learn and a good bit of know-how, she just need some structure behind it and practice applying what she knows to real situations.

in terms of gameplay...man. i dunno. lotta weird moves, looks like a lot of huge hitboxes that would make her a pain to get to without risk to yourself, though aside from that she’d be average in all ways i guess.

i’m still trying to wrap my head around venus and illeum’s sheets, among others... but there may be a few other posts like this coming ‘cause i love doing this shit; if you wanna see me do a particular [both used or unused!] hmu, i’d be down ;y

Buck doesn't know why his whole family have been around him today.

He doesn't mind the touching or the attention from everyone. It's really nice to be honest.

But lately they've been a little....wolfish.

Could you tell me what you think about Light wielding the Death Note simply to gain power like a cult leader as shown in Kato's video on YouTube about Light's true ambitions? Personally, I don't agree with it. I think that Light wanted power, but he didn't necessarily want to be idolized by a lot of people because he was already admired by many (probably). Also, although Light during the Yotsuba arc did not support Kira, it seemed to be because he noticed Higuchi using his power selfishly.

Okay, so you got me curious and I ended up watching the video you’re referring to. I have to admit right off the bat that I generally feel >_o about true crime type approaches to analyzing Light as that premise usually (though not always) asserts that Light’s mentality is best understood through the lens of sociopathy or mental illness, and I don’t really agree with that line of reasoning.

This is kinda going on a tangent I guess, but the problem with comparing Light to notorious criminals (in this case Charles Manson) is that it glosses over some important details. If you look at Charles Manson’s life, he had a rather troubled childhood that likely contributed to his antisocial behavior later on in life, and on top of that he’s been diagnosed with schizophrenia. There is little evidence to suggest Light was troubled as a child and certainly no evidence to suggest that he’s a paranoid schizophrenic either. People have the motivations and mindsets that they do because of their experiences and it just doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense to look at two debatably similar outcomes and claim that one motive fits all without carefully examining other factors. Not to me anyway. 

Which is not to say that Light can’t be motivated by power as it’d be absurd to suggest that only people who fit the exact mold of Manson are motivated by power. What I am saying is that Death Note canon doesn’t, to me, suggest that power is at the heart of his motivation. I’ve written several analyses on this, so I’ll just link them for you here.

Do you think car insurance should be mandatory in all of the United States?

I live in Wisconsin. Car insurance is not required for cars trucks and anything else on the road. I think this is wrong with medical and car repair bills being so expensive these days. Worst part about it is some of these non insured people drive like lunatics and if they do hit you they have nothing to even sue them for. I think it's disgusting.

Hi guys, well let me start with what happened first. I am a college student and so I live in an apartment and park my car next to a whole bunch of other cars. I parked my car in a completely empty spot with no cars at all, and I saw that it was completely fine. I didn't go out on Sunday, but the next day on Monday when I was about to leave for school I saw a big scratch/gash on the left side of my bumper about 25 inches x 20 inches. I do not know who and when it happened, so I called the police and tried to claim a police report but the police said he couldn't do anything because if I knew who hit it, he would be able to do something. But since I don't know who hit my car, he couldn't give me one. I also called my insurance company (State Farm) and told her what happened and the size and she told me that my deductable is $500 and they'll send out a representative to check out the damage. I didn't give her the green light yet but what should I do? The scratch is bad because I have a black car and you could see white scratches from far away. I mean, if my damage is less than $500, I'm going to have to pay my insurance too right? Will this also increase my insurance too? I'm already broke as is because of school and I don't want to have to pay more for something I didn't do.""
