You guys in the Northern hemisphere may have snow and fireplaces and hot chocolate and cosy sweaters, but I get mangoes. So there.

倒着 dàozhe
Upside down
Learned today while exchanging pictures of the full moon to wish happy mid-autumn festival; a classmate noticed that the moon seen from China is upside down compared to how we see it from Brazil.

something that no one really discusses is the way that growing up in the southern hemisphere gives you a unique perspective on seasons. particularly if you live in a western country that celebrates holidays like christmas and easter, and especially if those holidays are highly commercialised, you kind of get a weird sense of wrong-ness at times because the images you see around you don’t match up with the reality of the outside world. case in point: images of spring flowers at easter when it’s autumn outside and the leaves are falling. the majority of tumblr users are from the northern hemisphere, particularly north america. around this time of year on tumblr, I see a lot of posts talking about how nice spring is, when it’s the tail end of autumn for me. nothing particularly interesting about this but it’s just a part of my life. i think i’m gonna call this season dysphoria.
