||. an assortment of thoughts + headcanons concerning thor + previous relationships / his mentality surrounding ... being that one Resident Super Hot Guy :tm:

(none of these are fully fleshed out into words past these excerpts from my chats w a pal on discord... mostly, I just want to put them on the blog for later reckoning)

a. He was originally set to be betrothed to Lady Sif, though this was never really enforced or official so much as it was implied for as long as they've known each other. He'd have actually happily gone through with this if he hadn't met Jane??? but that's obvsly not what happened. He loves Jane and he would never choose another, ever.

b. Thor at no point ever expected he'd meet someone he'd fall in love with and trust with his heart, and he also sort of just… resigned himself to the fact that he won't marry for love, and that he WILL need to sire an heir whether he wants to or not (but he's super family coded so ofc he'd want kids of his own. It'd just suck for him a lot if it wasn't with someone he loves. he'd not blame the children for that, though.) / (more on that HERE)

c. Thor wasn't exactly a man-hoe or anything, but he is NOT a virgin in the slightest and lost that long before he met Jane, and this is from a variety of short relationships and the occasional fling… but when I say "short" and "occasional" I really do mean that… I don't think he'd get into relationships unless he felt there might be potential, but those never lasted more than a few days. He only would ever need those few to know if there could be something long-lasting.... (and usually they were done while he was out traveling the realms with the rest of his squad), I don't think he'd do flings and one-night-stands often but uh. Sometimes you really need a distraction and alcohol + s*x just kind of happen to go together in Thor's case bc he's an idiot and very careless with himself when it comes to… not being self-destructive. He'd find someone he okay with indulging, get drunk and have relations… but that said I think he'd always make it a point to treat those women nicely before, during, and especially afterwards, and he never left them high and dry bc that'd break his heart more than anything…. sooooo d. He's (unfortunately) used to being people's eye-candy and just kind of expects it at this point. When he's not perfect in the sense of "can do no wrong" or "a hero that always wins and can never be broken, no matter what comes his way", then it's just "he's so handsome and i boy am i having some Sinful Thoughts abt Prince Blondie over there" and thor just sort of …. He doesn't shrug it off, really. I think it actually makes him really uncomfortable. He just chooses to ignore it. Turn the other cheek, if you will, and give a wide berth and a blind eye, because in his mind there's nothing he can do about it =v=;;; To that end, he won't get terribly mad at anyone who does do express anything inappropriate towards him bc he DOES just expect it to happen. He reasons it away and elects to simply stay disengaged unless some lines are crossed. He does goes out of his way to dress modestly. Long sleeves when he can help it, always wearing some kind of shirt or tunic or armor, long pants (on earth, the most casual items of modern-day clothes he'll keep to are joggers. Never ever shorts.), boots, you name it. The most skin he feels comfortable showing are his arms w the sleeveless shirts but that's also partially out of it being easy to wear and great for training purposes. He actually doesn't like training w/o a shirt as an adult bc he has Learned ™️

e. Thor counts his flaws and ESPECIALLY whenever he sees or notices someone Oggling Him he'll go out of his way to remind himself of what they are. He's got a lazy eye that nobody comments on, his hair is darker than it was when he was a child, he's got callouses on his hands from the weapons he uses, when he was a child he had a gap between his front two teeth, he's got very thin scars from the occasional battle (not many, but they're there), - post!ragnarok there's also the addition of his lost right eye and eventual heterochromia … and he does it just to make a point to himself that he's .... not perfect, and if they can't spare the time to notice it then they're probably creatures to be wary of, in the long run

Endgame Spoilery thoughts

I've seen Avengers Endgame and I'm nowhere near coherent or emotionally stable, but I'm gonna jump right into spoilers under the cut. This is gonna be mostly about the Thor and Loki stuff, because they're the ones I care about the most.

So. Okay. First of all, how did they manage to keep Thor's physical transformation a secret for so long?? Because the stuff you see in the trailers and other promotional material are all from scenes that happen in the first 20 minutes! Judging by the audible gasps in the audience, people were genuinely surprised as hell.

I'm guessing they took the complaints about Thor's short hair seriously, because Thor has never had more hair lol. Like, he's proper Viking levels of hairy with his long, bushy depression beard (which gets beautiful braids when he dons his armor) and thick mane of hair. And yeah, he's gained some weight. Actually, he's gained *a lot* of weight. And if you know me, you know I’m into this burly Big Lebowski!Thor. Totally, totally dig it. Peak Thor for me. (Though I'm not a fan of some people finding his weight gain a source of humor and the Russos probably intending it as such ugh). And I'm glad he didn't just magically drop the weight between scenes! He keeps his belly throughout the movie! I have a feeling this is a hugely unpopular opinion, but eh, I'll be here in my corner, thirsting after Big Thor. You’re all welcome to join me, though :D

I'm a little torn over the New Asgard stuff (lol I was expecting big, impressive buildings and it's just a tiny fishing village on the coast of Norway, which I kind of dig, actually?) and how Thor is avoiding his responsibilities and letting Valkyrie do all the leading. Because on the one hand, I want to see him do a good job and be a good leader, kinda like how I wrote him in my fic where he creates a new home for his people and brings Loki back to life. But on the other hand, it's totally understandable that he's hit rock bottom after everything he's been through. Like, can you blame him? He’s pretty #relatable, because I, too, have anxiety, want to wear comfy cardigans, drink my sorrows away, eat and play video games while I avoid all the shit in my life. I do suspect a lot of people are gonna hate this version of Thor, but me? I kinda wanna write fic about him :D

Thor got some of the biggest laughs from my audience, so the jokes clearly landed for a lot of people, but there's a lot of deep sadness in his character here, and I suspect most of the credit for that goes to Chris rather than the script. I can't believe how often I went from laughing to being close to tears with Thor.

When it comes to Loki, I can't help but wonder why the Russos wanted to keep his part to bare minimum in these two movies. They offed him in the first 10 minutes of IW in the most idiotic turn of events (and yeah, Loki really was that dumb??) and they barely gave Hiddleston any lines in Endgame even though this is the end of an era and he was such a big part of the first two phases of the MCU. The Avengers go through so much effort to re-visit the Battle of New York and they shut his mouth with the gag almost immediately.

There was also a huge missed opportunity for Thor to interact with his LIVING brother during the time travel shenanigans, but the Russos just insert Thor into some old TDW footage to have him sneak past Loki's cell. Idk. Is it because they think it would mess with the cosmos if TDW era Loki sees future Thor? Seems dumb tbh, when Thor got to interact with Frigga who clearly knew her son was from the future. Okay, maybe I wouldn’t trust TDW era Loki not to fuck shit up if he catches wind of what’s going on, but I just refuse to believe that Thor wouldn't even *look at* Loki after Ragnarok and the opening of IW, so screw you for that, Russos.

And RIP Loki's character development, redemption arc and mental and emotional healing, I guess. Because the Loki who lived through TDW and Ragnarok is gone for good. What we have instead is 2012 era Loki slipping away with the Tesseract, so I don't know, at least he's out there, alive. And I'm guessing this is the Loki we'll see in the tv show, because he's totally gonna abuse the hell out of that Tesseract, isn’t he?

On the one hand, I've always loved fics where Thor or Loki meets with a past version of their brother. Like, I'm already imagining Avengers era Loki coming face to face with Endgame Thor! But on the other hand, Thor and Loki are in such different places now, because Thor has been through so much loss and yes, one version of his brother is alive again, but 2012 era Loki is mentally in a really bad place and all the mending they did to their relationship has been wiped away. Though I guess that Endgame era Thor might be better equipped to understand Avengers era Loki.

Thor leaving Valkyrie in charge of New Asgard to go off with the Guardians is gonna piss off a lot of people who wanted Thor's arc to conclude with him sitting on a throne, but eh, I don't mind it tbh. I ain't got no problem with Asgard having a queen (though I think they’d be better off if they dumped the entire concept of monarchy) and I like that this sets up potential future appearances/solo movies for Thor, because I feel that his arc just isn't complete by the end of the movie the way Tony and Steve's are. And it's been pretty clear throughout the movies that Thor wants to be a good man and help people, but sitting on the throne of Asgard isn't the best way for him to do those things. I think it's Frigga who says it that this isn't about what Thor was meant to be, this is about embracing who he *is* and doing his best at it. And I guess that's what Thor will attempt to do now that he's back on his feet.

Oh god I loved seeing Frigga again! I also hope that she's alive now that Thor and Rocket took the Aether out of Jane before Frigga had a chance to die protecting her. Lmao at them inserting deleted TDW footage to get Natalie Portman into the movie, though.

But yeah, it's gonna take me a while to get a proper handle of all the time travel shit. Because so many things have a domino effect and the Avengers tampered with the past a lot. What happens if Frigga never dies? Where is Loki now that he managed to slip away with the Tesseract in 2012? Did he ever even exists in the timeline we saw in TDW and Ragnarok?

Anyway, I did like Endgame much more than Infinity War. I think it has the highest highs and the lowest lows (for some people) and I got some of that OG Avengers Feeling in my chest that I haven’t felt since 2012. I laughed, I cried and I smiled so much that my jaw hurt. I do think general fandom is gonna have a blast with this movie while creative fandom probably tears their hair off, either because they're disappointed or because they don't know what to do with what canon has done to their favorite characters and ships.

Me? Eh, canon and fandom/fanon have always been pretty separate entities in my head and heart. I think I'm feeling inspired to maybe write fic again, but I suspect the fandom is gonna be so full of hatred for this movie that I'll probably keep my distance, because I find that the negativity in fandom (even if some of the criticism is well-deserved and very understandable) kills my inspiration and desire to participate much more effectively than my disappointment in canon.

Shit i really liked and kinda didn’t like about Ragnarok

I recently saw ragnarok and became so rejuvenated that i brought my marvel blog back but i wanted to seriously talk about like things that i liked and really didn’t just to get shit out there. 

Things i really liked (like so much that i am obsessed)

-Thor’s new hair cut/outfit, i think its actually super suitable. Gives that sort of cool ass warrior refugee look. Plus, Chris Hemsworth is beautiful. 

-The humor, oh god it was hilarious, i’ve never laughed so genuinely and so much in my life and it made the movie so charming and relatable. It was also such a departure from The Dark World and the first Thor, which dealt with so much emotional baggage for not only just Thor, but for Loki, who basically suffered throughout both movies. 

-Hulk being an actual toddler/Bruce Banner being so fucked up and anxious because WHEN DID HE GET ON AN ALIEN PLANET. 

-”You’ve been on other planets before i assume” “Yeah, one!” “well now it’s two” 

-Valkyrie. Her entire everything gave me so much to love and adore. Tessa Thompson has stole my heart yet again. 

-TAIKA WAITITI AS KORG WAS ACTUALLY SO FUNNY

-The little tiny glimpses of Loki and Thor’s childhood, aka the snake story, get help. It really showed how much time Loki and Thor had spent together, which i assume is a lot because age in Asgardian years work differently probably? Like imagine that, Loki and Thor spending time together and being inseparable for 100 years. It showed that they were always close despite loki feeling different or alienated, which explains why its so hard for Loki to just leave thor for dead. 

-”You’ll always be the god of mischief, but you can be so much more” See that shit destroyed me. Thor acknowledges that Loki is not like him. He’s a trickster, manipulative, and selfish. But he also acknowledges that Loki is so much more than his tricks and lies, which shows so much character growth in Thor, who sees loki as more than just an asgardian prince that was raised the exact same way opposite of Thor, but as his own fucking person.

-Thor actually not being stupid and falling for Loki’s tricks, aka his magic projections of himself/his petty, stupid betrayals. Tom mentioned that Thor was evolving and that Loki was finally starting to realize that he’s the only one not growing. Scenes like the betrayal scene and the snake scene, although meant to be hilarious, point out that Thor isn’t that idiot that just was too trusting of his brother, he sees through Loki’s tricks, he’s seen them for years, and it really shows that Loki’s getting predictable with his fake deaths and betrayals, which might hint at him changing? 

-IT FIXED THE INCONSISTENCIES. The main reason i didn’t like Dark world, though i did see it as amazing for its ability to mix the emotional darkness between Loki and Thor along with the humor throughout the movie, was because it pointed Loki out to be the type of cold blooded monster that would murder his own father. I mean I’m no Loki apologist, i love the kid but he’s killed, he’s manipulated, he’s hurt everyone around him, but i doubt he could ever kill Odin, no matter how much of a shitty father he is. Also low-key hated the whole “Loki if you betray me, ill kill you” Thor bullshit. We all know thor wouldn’t be able to do that, he still hopes Loki is his brother. 

-AGAIN, THE SNAKE SCENE WAS SO FUNNY. 

-”I thought the world of you Loki.” Ouch. 

-Hulk and Val’s bromance. 

-The entire Valkyrie v. Hela scene. It was so beautiful and ethereal i actually nutted. 

-LOKI DIDN’T NEED TO COME BACK. HE DIDN’T NEED TO GO BACK TO THE SHIP WITH THOR. HE DIDN’T NEED TO GO BACK TO ASGARD. HE COULD HAVE NOT. BUT HE DID. BECAUSE SOMEWHERE IN THERE UNDER THE SELFISHNESS MAYBE HE CARES.

-Loki’s face when odin called him his son. 

-Loki’s face when Hela told him to kneel. 

-Loki refusing to let Thor go back to Asgard. “Are you serious? you can’t be thinking of going back there, that’s madness!” is that? Loki cARING? 

-Loki’s character development. 

-thor in a jean jacket and hoodie in new york. 

-Thor spilling beer everywhere. 

-Loki letting Thor take the orgy ship. 

-Jeff Goldblum. Thats it.

-Thor being so fucking amazed by Val all the time.

What i didn’t like much; 

-Hela. I loved her character, but honestly here is where i think there might’ve been some failure despite how much i loved that movie. She seemed so out of place as a villain, and i feel like the whole related shit tried to mimic Guardians vol. 2, but honestly the fact that Thor didn’t care much about her made her feel so out of place. But i did like some parts, like how she was so disappointed about not being remembered or what her existence and disappointment did to how loki was raised. 

-Dr. Strange? Ok that was weird. It makes sense and it was funny to see him but to be honest i wasn’t into it. 

-tHE SCENE WITH VAL AND A GIRL BEING CUT. WHYWHYWHY

-tbh was not fond of frost master, don’t hate me. 

-Loki possibly taking the tesseract????? And hinting that he might turn evil again??? don’t do this to me marvel. 

-loki possibly being turned into the quirky sidekick of his brother. Loki is Thor’s equal, not his annoying little brother/wacky sidekick. I didn’t get that vibe often, but sometimes i did honestly. 

-RIP thor’s hammer. 

-ODIN BEING A PIECE OF SHIT YET AGAIN. 

-Hela’s entrance. it was so quick and like out of place i was like what wait, Loki and thor didn’t even have time to prepare or even mourn. 

-the comedy. It was its best and worst part of the movie. Sometimes it was tasteful. Other times it was too much. Thor and Loki didn’t even get to mourn for their dad who tbh was an asshole but still their dad before there was a annoying joke about kneeling. It took away from the story sometimes.

-the lack of hugging between thor and loki.

-The way they glossed over the warriors three’s death like they weren’t Thor’s closest friends and the only ones there for him when Odin tried to banish Thor to earth :-))))) I mean after all that shit he went through I’m pretty fucking sure it probably hasn’t caught up to him but ya bitch still pissed. 

-The way, Thor, who basically admitted that Loki actually meant the world to him and was the only family he had left, didn’t ask where he was after asgard exploded? Like tbh i get it, he trusts Loki, his brothers capable and strong and most of all really fucking smart, but i’d still be like :-) the fuck is Loki. I think this is a directing error though rather than like the characters fucking up but i was freaking out, i mean asgard was literally pebbles and everyone was out BUT my son. 

-No sif, i mean i get it Jaime Alexander was busy but like y'all could’ve explained smh. 

-Loki not getting a hair cut. When will his emo phase end. 

-Not getting that one flashback to 80′s asgard with mullets and emo loki. 

Overall it was pretty fucking cool, one of the best movies of the trilogy. I fell in love with the marvel cinematic universe all over again. But it wasn’t perfect.

RIGHT THEN here’s my Thor 3 Reaction Post:

Under a cut on the off chance some folks haven’t seen it yet, but also because this might get a smidge long depending on how much I end up rambling:

*opening guitar riff of Immigrant Song blares in the distance*

So my This Seems To Be Side-stepping Into GOTG Tonal Territory vibe from the trailers seemed to be not too far off, but I wasn’t really as bothered by it as I was afraid I might be. Instead it seemed to be a good world-building bridge between The Set-up Of The Universe According To The Thor Movies and The Set-up Of The Universe According To GOTG.

On the other hand...the Warriors Three just? got axed?? with little to no ceremony??? (This was actually something I got spoilered for a couple weeks ago, but it was from a family friend who’s written official tie-in novels about Thor and Sif and the Warriors Three, so he would definitely have a more personal investment in this development than the average viewer.)

On the OTHER other hand:

- Hela: s’up bitches I’m the rightful heir to the throne and I’m BACK you can give me back the army now I’m here to restore Asgard to her former blood-soaked imperialistic glory

- Hogun: whom’st’ve

- Hela:

A minor mistake: watching this movie so soon after seeing The Disaster Artist, because there were too many early shots of Loki and his long greasy black hair that made me think Alternate Universe Tommy Wiseau (until, of course, Tom opened his mouth and velvet came out instead of pocket lint)

Was that scene with The Tragedy of Loki of Asgard meant as a comedic in-universe recap for An Important Thing From The Previous Movie, or just a general piss-take of The Dark World? Because either way works great for me.

I know folks have been saying that “Odin” going “oh shit” when Thor shows up was the line that cleared their skin and made their crops flourish, but for me Skurge showing up late and Loki turning around and going “You Had One Job” was the moment that made my soul ascend for a minute.

The Dr. Strange interlude added Basically Nothing to the overall story beyond him being the reality-bending Uber driver that got the bros to where Odin was, but it was entertaining and I enjoyed it so I’m fine with it being there. Also it was kinda nice to see him in a more secure space of “I know what I’m doing, you folks just sit tight” and actually meaning it instead of saying it and then trying to just wing it and then fucking up spectacularly.

Because I got to the scene with that bit from the Dramatic Telenovella Zoom gif and it took me a sec to realize that That Was It. I think it might’ve just been that the preceding line right before Goldblum’s Awkward Half-Wink Attempt didn’t seem at all suggestive? He was just talking about how time works differently on Sakaar and that by Normal Universe Standards he should be really old but then he just trails off and...was the implication supposed to be more of a “yup, still got it ;)” thing? Because that would make more sense.
