BASICS x2 What caused you to start writing? What was your key point?

in 3rd grade we watched the cartoon movie version of the legend of sleepy hollow and had an assignment to write a summary of it. i was barely out of ESL at the time but thought it was a neat assignment (and prided myself on my memory for details) so i hecking did my best and wrote a long detailed one (with pictures because it was elementary school and you could illustrate your stuff) and for some reason my teacher and the principal were all happy about it and made a big deal complete with ceremony and applause and made me feel important and cool.

after that i was like "yeah! that was awesome. can't i write more stories like that even outside of school?" and thus it kicked off my journaling obsession besides writing diaries of my daily life. i did a lot of original fics and sailor moon/digimon-inspired stuff but when i found ff.net it was like discovering a whole new world where you could control the characters to do whatever you wanted (while staying IC, cause that was definitely part of the "rules" of the challenge) and that was amazing.

realizing writing meant i could take destiny into my own hands for these made-up blorbos was such a fun power trip. i have tried to use that power responsibly ever since.

Do you still write your first muse?

dahlia hawthorne was my first real muse on tumblr and i poke her now and then, but she seems content in her semi-retirement in my brain. sometimes she wakes up to snark people but she's enjoying her vacation in peace right now : )

Have you ever written a canon muse that you first thought of ‘meh’ when they appeared in their canon show/movie/book?

don't shoot me but before i wrote yagen toushirou for touken ranbu i was like "yeah yeah okay this is just a standard big brother x cool doctor type trope," i actually didn't even pick him up until i wanted to try someone new and my other friends (playing other swordboys at the time) suggested him

then i had to research him and really fell in love with the dichotomy of his character, about how he's very human with his brothers but also 100% a weapon and embraces that fact, about the juxtaposition of DUTY vs. FEELING and the HUMAN HEART vs. OBJECT/TOOL he's been balancing all his life on a very fine line (and does flawlessly, because he's yagen) and i was like, heck! this is gonna be so fun to RP and make him deal with stuff

tho most of the time i got into crack threads again and shipping with Fudou it was still very very fulfilling and im glad my friends convinced me to try him out :D

Do you have developed dynamics with the OC of another mun that has influenced your OC or Canon muse?

yeah I mean this guy wouldn't exist without Jade's Klaus u know? his template might've been taken from his faceclaim guy but the rest of him i molded to fit Jade's OC, specifically his personality and to an extent his looks. in some ways Klaus has everything Aurelius lacks and vice versa, they have this classic balancing scales thing going on that i like very much and try to fill intentionally.

i also wanna say Klaus is one of the few windows to Aurelius' genuine gentle/good side, the side he might have been all the time if his father didn't screw him up from birth (of course i can't say his dad is all to blame, but he sure takes 60~75% of the blame).

as for developed dynamics im guessing this is asking about interactions with another OC that influenced this one...why do i feel like they've all been humbling experiences... Issy has shown him some humans are worth treating with care, Constantine has demonstrated how not everyone takes his shit, Dar is there to inspire working business relationships while highlighting Aury's awkward aspects fitting in, Huey undos all the good work everyone else puts in by proving how crappy some humans act, etc.

Who was your first OC?

time to get embarrassing so my first OC with an actually established backstory and stuff was this girl with a randomnly generated Japanese name i thought was pretty (Saikoubi) for a digimon RP group

and i intentionally gave her a happy-go-lucky personality and positive outlook because looking at the rest of the applicants everyone was like either emo or orphaned or both and my 14-year-old self was like "well! how are we going to save the world as digidestined if we're sad all the time" and basically made her the complete opposite of everyone else

it was rad, people got to be edgy, she got to be sunny, we didn't really get past the first region between our threads before the group died down but i think we all had fun and that's what matters in the end xD

What is your favorite fandom in which you write?

i still like touken ranbu but it's more fun to write (RP) that when other swordboys are around, plus the fandom's so saturated with new swordboys these days it's hard to keep up with latest lore stuff. i still try to write 1 fanfic for it in the annual xmas secret santa thing the english-speaking fans host, tho i'm very very slow these days

beyond that i've been dipping into FFXIV fic writing a few times but i haven't grasped the language of the world well enough yet so i'm not satisfied with my work ehhh it is what it is for now

it's more fun to see where a ship goes because i like unpredictability. like the unscripted stuff feels more genuine to me especially if it surprises me u know? i do acknowledge the value of a well-planned romance but in a fall first vs. fall harder relationship i'm definitely invested more in the "fall harder and beautifully in all the disastrous ways" kinda person

i think that's how my past ships have generally gone, finding a connection between 2 muses, expanding on it, referencing it, and then boom! one day you know so much more about the other muse and you're always thinking about them and wait, what, we're hanging out together? just the two of us? is this a DATE? kinda revelations are very fun

What are you looking for in a ship?

i enjoy ships with room to develop. like it's cute when they come together and are all kiss kiss/blush blush but the process to getting there is half the fun! and the pining. and maybe a little misunderstanding here and there.

🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?

"Yeah, okay."

Evander actually started off in a Pathfinder game that @luck-and-larceny ran years and years and years ago¹. So, the initial inspiration for him was just, uh... "Wow, Archaeologist Bard sure looks neat. Can't wait to know all the things and have stupid high luck bonuses on everything I do forever!" Originally, I was playing over on Gilgamesh, but eventually Mal convinced me to make a little dude on Balmung, and that little dude ended up being an FFXIV-ized Evander.

Beyond that, a lot of the details between these two versions of him are pretty similar: He was an orphan in an exploited orphan-gang, his brother died in the process of trying to get him out of these circumstances into better ones, and he carries that guilt with him. His personality is largely the same; he was just as much a hedonist and adrenaline junkie, though he was perhaps a bit more happy-go-lucky at the table than he is here.

He's a lot more weighed down, here. His grief and his ADHD come to the forefront, partially because there's more room to explore that in writing than there is at a gaming table with 3 other people who also need to figure out what spell they're casting and a GM that has to manage all the goblins, and partially because... I mean, those are the things I deal with, I guess. They're shaped very different, and you've got to dig at it a bit in the RP, but in the writing, it's there.

I don't know that it's the first thing I decided on, but one of the earliest was—and I'm sure this isn't a surprise—the titular dumb hat. Pathfinder Evander had a hat too, but that was more just because, like... He was an archaeologist. Gotta have the Indy hat, right? There wasn't a history to it; it wasn't a tie back to his dead brother or anything. When I made him in FFXIV, nothing was really clicking glam-wise until I went to the marketboard and found the anemos hat. I don't know why, but the thought of that being like, the hat made me cackle and I quickly decided it was going to be the one thing that he just always wore. Of course, then I needed a reason and all that, and... Well, I mean... That's come up a lot in writing, I guess. ¹Fun bonus fact: Malika actually started out as a character in a 13th Age game that I ran. Wanna ask me stuff? OC Emoji Asks!

PLOTS OR MEMES   :    memes !  it’s a wonderful way to get a feel of the characters before hand -  which in my case,  required  before I can properly plot.  ( I need to get to know your character within your writing in itself !  conversations are fun, but threads gives so much life to the relationship, not to mention, I adore the unexpected ! )

LONG OR SHORT REPLIES ?   :  I love long threads,   often times my replies malforms into word vomits.    I also just love, love, love,  reading my partner’s replies.  In the end of the day, I’m weak for details !   Show me their thoughts,  how they interact with their surroundings,  the weather, the voice, the everything !

WiJ 2022 - 05: Who is Your Favourite Whumpee?

As I've mentioned, I write and love primarily oc whump, so it's only natural that my favourite whumpee is one of my ocs :)

It's Pete lol, Pete Spencer, my lil bb blorbo, been my fav for five years straight, no character has ever stuck quite like him before, and he was how I got addicted to whump.

I would daydream incessantly about hurting him. At first, it was him getting beaten up and having his head shoved into a fountain in a drowning attempt (you can't drown him dwdw), and him shifting, and just the fear and dread he felt was the tastiest thing.

I daydreamed this scenario every night before I went to sleep for about a week... reveling in the whumperflies lol

And yeah, he satisfies just about every single one of my favourite whump tropes (many listed in my wij day 1 post), and he's wrapped up in a nice, neat, little mer-shifter package :)

Originally, I made him for an rp among my friends, and the goal was to give him the most tragic backstory possible.

Previously, I'd made only female characters because heaven forbid I make a male character (I was very ace and I was always worried that people were gonna Assume Things -ahem- 'ooh-la la~' and think I like like him, I was 15 when I made him ok ;-; and younger me despised the assumptions). So I really went out on a limb, and I had some guppies at the time, so I decided to make him a mer shifter, just to indulge my childhood (yeah, I loved H2O as a kid, I have nothing to say for myself XD ).

As for the rp, it was actually a revival of one several years prior (I was ~12 for that original, and it lasted a few chapters), and it died in a day, but I got addicted to whumping Pete within minutes of writing up his profile, and here we are today, five years later :3

Even though the rp died in a day, Pete's backstory continued into what is now Shifting Phases :D

The unnamed world was granted the name Ewrancore, what used to be Clarian City is now Candimor City, I fleshed out the hunters, fleshed out the lore, and kept the little garage with a yellow star on the front in the quiet alley as a homage to the original way back in 2014.

I mentioned the original rp above, and thought it would be fun to mention the first character I used for it (the first oc I actually liked), was also a shifter. Her name was Miu, and she was a winged fox shifter with black fur and feathers... based off a silver fox I believe..? Anyway, first thing I did was have the hunters dart her and had a whole collapse right out of the gate.

And that's also where the darts of today came from!

17 "What was your first muse?"

I guess other than warrior cats and one other oc that werent necessarily mused, it'd be Dipper Pines (regular and most of his aus). I ended up really deep in the Gravity Falls Amino and I ended up in many of the rps defaulting to him for other friends and rpers til I became known for it to an extent gjfjdk. I did a couple other GF charcaters but mainly him in my friend groups.

19 "Do you have ship bias?"

I'll be honest I have no clue what this means. :v If its about writing a ship with someone and their muse, it mostly depends on chemestty and if I know the mun at least a little and if its fun to write. (Ex, I haven't written any real Monix even tho its cute despite having Fox talk to a few Monos here and discord, but have written thinlady with @/gecsha and already otp'd it. I also liked Sevix but wanted SK to want nothing to do with Six in even a friendly regard, but me and @/raincoatnightmare became friends when we were writing and it was funny and cute plus added further character into SK that I like (also now lordlady supremacy ty ty). Or in another fandom, the only character I've written with a canon relationship (or semi-canon? ig its vague?) was Hero from Omori and even then it seems weird to jump into a ship with someone I havent spoken to so it would probably be more prominent with an rper I've talked to before even if its still there with strangers)

Tbh Ive (embarrassedly and probably poorly) written it with one other person before in a certain circumstance I don't wanna get into here that ended not-so-well but I'm too nervous to write that kinda thing with others unless we were really comfortable writing that in private. It would always have to be shipping and he's only really shipped with one muse and you already admitted to asking this so I hope youre happy embarrassing me now hfksfkjfkd (also off like you said only adults like SL)

It never starts that way and yet so often ends up like that fhsksl. For SL he's already in a cute poly ship in a verse so I'll say yes to that. Lady Fox hasn't really been written into anything at all yet and I haven't even considered any ship even my beloved thinlady for her so we'll see gjjdls. For puppy ships with the kids again idk

29 "What are your thoughts on your muses' canon?"

Sweats in divergent characters Well Six is really cool and honestly a fun character to watch go through things, I really like her and her clever survival skills even if she's not the most kind in some situations cough cough. I could write a whole essay on why I love her little differences between the other characters in idle animations, cutscene reactions, and her ai actions in LN2. And seeing her in both comic series + those LN2 cutscenes/ai, I like how despite it all its obvious just still just a kid who also enjoys time with others.

RK is honestly my favorite of the protags, little dude is hard (to the) core. I still hate the canon ending 💔 /hj. His specific idle animations we get to see are also interesting in the fact thet theyre a little different from Six's (the only 2 kids at the time). Seeing his interactions with the Nomes (Hideaway), Six (cancelled comic), and reaction to the Flashlight Girl (Depths), it's also neat to see his little personality shine through. I got the feeling he was almost hesitant to escape but went through anyway, and saw it to the end (even if it was his own end) and with all the stepping on coal and glass, hitting every obstacle in the way and still standing up straight, and being resourceful of those around him, and I can respect him. Also he's the only one who's had a chapter I would be too scared to go through if I had the LN mindset so good on him 💔.

36. "Do you feel similar to your muse in any way?"

With Fox I really feel that casual but anxious at any time feeling, and already projected a lot of my anxieties about memory loss onto her. I also just like foxes. (Ive only spent money on game cosmetics 3 times and one was the LN1 fox mask, another was yesterday $10 on an almost useless fox plush on Sky: CotL fhdjsk but hey whats important is invisible to the eyes).

With SK I can feel the "listens to an echo chamber for emotions" sometimes, and holding onto things stubbornly. It's quite easy to write him as I don't like admitting certain things either and deny deny deny, but that makes SL a little harder to make him romance fbdksk.

With SL I do really feel that overprotectiveness and envy in some things, he might be waaay exaggerated ofc but it's there. Im also a big self blamer.

37 "Do you feel different from your muse in any way?"

With Fox I'm much more social, I do like hugs and physical touchs and talking even oversharing cough just look at this whole post whereas she'd very reserved and quiet about her feelings 99% of the time.

With SK I can't really find it in me to hold a grudge that well. I can think back and get annoyed that some teacher or other kid or family member did some bad thing to me in the past, or say "so-and-so hurt me yesterday", but I can't hold it as just hate for long and see it differently. There's very few people I'm having trouble forgiving and forgetting, and they'll never be allowed near my family if I can help it.

With SL I can't say I'm in a good position if I'm in charge. I can be a good right hand or lower ranking moniter/manager, but being the head is too much pressure and depressing. He seems to be doing just fine both on his own and with his wife and/or husband.

38 "What's the best inspiration for your muse?"

Mostly jokes and random ideas with my friends! Some of the best plots I've had personally were turning a romance/ship joke into angst for pain, or angst into romance as hurt/comfort. Ofc music also helps but this is the best!

All About RP Icons For Beginners by Birdy

Hi OP, I’m not sure how experienced you are with all the nonsense surrounding the making and using of RP icons, so I’m gonna come at it as though you don’t have any experience with it at all and I’m sorry if that’s too simplified for you, but also if I’m gonna write many paragraphs about one topic I may as well make it accessible for as many people as possible ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This post goes into what tools are out there for the popular methods of finding/making RP icons in the first half and my personal methodology for choosing and using them in my RP for the second half. This is a very surface level answer to the question and is not meant to be an in depth tutorial for the more labor intensive aspects of the process, but if you guys want more information and can’t find it elsewhere, please ask and I'll know what I should be talking about next. 

Also I’m also contractually obligated to mention to the masses that I do take commissions both for the drawing of RP icons and the service of capping, cutting, recoloring, and framing canon icons. Sometimes I even post batches of canon character icons for free on this blog so like,,,,, hit me up if you want. But!! You don’t need me, you can absolutely do all of it yourself!!  I go into the broad strokes below.

Question 1: “How do you get icons?” 

This is kind of a broad question and the answer depends on what your needs are. The right answer for you is gonna live in one of two camps 

Find some that already exist that are free to use

Make them yourself / commission somebody else to make them for you. 

What you'll choose is gonna depend a lot on your character first and foremost.  The big determining factor in most cases is whether or not the face you want has been in anything you can take pictures of. 

If you have a canon character who exists in visible media--

--you're in luck! The chances of you finding some resources that exist already is higher when you have a canon character who is in at least a few pieces of media. OP asked about Pearl from Steven Universe, and she's a great example of a character with a lot of resources. Searching for rp icons of a popular character will often yield packs of icons on Tumblr, Dreamwidth, Livejournal, etc. Most of these will be completely free to use or have very reasonable conditions for use (like credit the person who made them for example.)  It's often a good first step to see what preexisting resources are available to you even if you still plan on making your own icons. 

If you have an OC or a character that's not all that popular--

--you're gonna fall into the second camp. If you want icons, you have to have them made. So what are your options?

Help! My character appears in no media! What are my options?

If your character appears in no media you're in a tough spot. Different people approach this problem in different ways. 

Face Claims

One option you have is to choose a face claim to represent your character. In roleplay a face claim or ‘FC’ is a person or character whose appearance you use for the physical description of your character. I personally am not big on doing this, I prefer drawn icons and I tend to RP as animated characters, but some people really like using celebrities and stuff to represent their characters.  When I was playing Angus McDonald he hadn't appeared in any visual media yet, so I sometimes used Bryce Clyde Jenkins as the face claim for certain types of threads.  

If you're somebody who likes to use face claims there are loads of resources out there for finding the perfect one, including here on tumblr. Try searching up RP Faceclaim Directory and playing around with some of the ones that pop up.

DIY RP Icons

The other option you have is to create those icons from scratch. Draw them yourself based on icons you like or commission an artist to draw some for you.   If you can't draw yourself, I've seen some people get really creative with this. Some people create their character in the sims, dollmakers, or their favorite RPG and then take screenshots of that to use for icons.  There's also no law that says every icon you use has to be your character's face. When I was writing a trashy mermaid AU I got a lot of mileage out of icons that depicted harbor and oceanic scenes with no actual faces. Get creative, go nuts, have fun.

Icons Aren’t That Important

The other thing to remember that icons are not a must in many RP circles. It's perfectly possible to have a great time and write cool stuff without any pictures at all. Depending on your platform of choice there are probably also other interesting ways you can make your posts unique to you by formatting the text or using symbols or emojis or otherwise denoting your personal style in text.

Help! My character appears in lots of media! How do I make icons?

Again, there are a million and one answers to this question and it really depends on what tools are available to you and what your preferences are. This section is not a tutorial but it will outline some of the options you can look into.

The icon making process is typically in 2 stages-- stage 1: get all your images of your character, and stage 2: edit all of those images into icons.  

If you have access to the source material, any version of Photoshop, and software that automates the collection screencaps from video (KM Player, VLC, etc) you're pretty much gucci. You're gonna have no problem getting loads of nice icons in a reasonably short amount of time and there are a million different tutorials on how to use those things whichever way you prefer. 

If you don't have access to those things you still have options. 

You can still screencap things manually, and you can screencap in batches by holding down the windows key and pressing PrtSc any time you want to save an image. They should be saving to >pictures>screenshots unless you’ve set things up differently. It’s a good way to take a lot of screenshots without stopping in between.

( EDIT / UPDATE: to say that if you use automation for taking screencaps remember to turn that shit off when you’re not using because it oh mylanta it WILL continue to take images without you realizing. Figured out where all my disk space has been going with this rookie mistake, thanks OP)

Additionally, PhotoScape X is a really great little tool for windows and mac that I've never seen anybody talk about, but I use it sometimes and it's totally free with the exception of a few paid features I’ve never once needed or wanted. This program is not as efficient as using Photoshop but it has presets for cropping images easily as well as batch editing options for some basic borders and color retouching.  While it’s not as powerful as Photoshop, you can get a lot done with it reasonably quickly compared to other choices. You can also take and edit snips of anything on your screen with it, which is really really useful if you don’t have access to the video or image files you would need on your hard drive for other version of this process.  The program looks like this:

Also, not to be like a minimalist about it, but you can also just fucken use Microsoft Paint or whatever you have. Like, whatever, there’s no law. You graphics dont have to be comlpex or deep fried. Half of my icons have been made or edited in paint at some point. It wont be as fast as some of these other methods but a lot of us aren't out here making icons in batches of 100 at a time. 

Anything that you can use to make smallish images of your characters face will work to make icons.

If you want more information about any of these methods of icon creation let me know and I’ll talk about them.

Question 2: “How do you make your icons ‘work’ in posts?”

I'm a little confused on what you mean by "make them work" so I'm gonna cover my bases here. I'm assuming what you're getting at is a sort of sense of cohesion in the icons I use, or having the "right" expression for the scene I'm writing. Either that or them not stretching and looking weird thanks to tumblr. I’ll get to both of those.

And before I go into my own rationale for icon choices I feel I should point out that a lot of people who aren't me do successfully manufacture cohesion out of their images by doing fun stylistic things like recoloring their images all the same way or putting cute borders and stuff around them or making them fun shapes, and that's totally something you can learn how to do if it interests you.  I do this for icons commissioned by other people and I’m not against talking about how to do those things, but I don’t really bother with them for my own icons all that much. That stuff is all fun and it’s a neat thing you could get into that can make your icons all look really nice together.

BUT ANYWAY --

Since the character you asked about is Pearl, I’m going to focus on her. Nearly all of my Pearl icons are completely unedited and a lot of the credit I would have to give regarding icon quality goes to Pearl herself and the consistently good lighting that the show uses. I don’t have a huge need for editing or color retouching beyond making memes or whatever other goofy things I might be getting up to. Pearl is extremely expressive compared to other characters I have written and since she's in nearly every episode, I've managed to collect…

...oh god, that’s too many icons.

Pearl is a main character and I've been RPing as her for over 6 years now so I have a fuckload of images to choose from and I'm not gonna pretend that doesn't help when I wanna “make things work”. She gives me a lot of options.

That said, you absolutely don't need 3000 images to make a good post. The way I've collected and organized these images may be of use to you even if you dont have as many icons. I've done a lot with my setup to make finding the right icon very easy. 

For starters, a minor subset of my Pearl icons are grouped by a particular defining feature. I have one large Pearly folder full of icons and then a few smaller folders inside for icons I thought worth grouping separately. For example, all icons of SUF Pearl in her new jacket are in the same folder. All icons of Pearl in short term alternate outfits are in the same folder. Anything I sourced from Attack the Light is in its own folder. I do this with anything that has a very specific use, such as writing AU content or flashbacks to specific time periods. If I can picture an icon in my head, I usually know where in my ridiculous hell collection to go to find it. 

This folder was originally just for her pre-canon outfit but now all of her outfits that only appeared temporarily are in there.

Perhaps more important for the sake of cohesion is that nearly all of my icons that aren’t squirreled away in some smaller folder are loosely arranged by episode. What that means is that most of the time I have icons from the same scene right next to one another. It makes it incredibly easy to make my RP replies appear as though it's all one cohesive scene even if I use more than one icon. When you do it this way it becomes very easy to choose icons that have the same lighting or that appear to lead from one expression seamlessly into another. Exhibit A:

While the vast majority of my icons are numbered, I do take the time to name ones I find myself using a lot or that have particularly unique expressions. Usually I'll choose names that I'll find descriptive or easy to remember based on the context of the icon. You can have a lot of fun with that and never lose your favorites.

Also don't be afraid to lean on icons you got from weird places if you like them.  The icons of Pearl from the official comics run don’t look like most of what I have. I think them being different would turn a lot of RPers off, but I use them a lot because I like the style and I almost never see other Pearl RPers using them.  It either makes me stand out or it makes me tacky, one of the two, haven’t figured out which, but also I’m not stopping.

And just to reiterate, you can use icons that aren’t your character if they’re thematically relevant or vague enough to look like them. When I’m capping I’ve started saving a folder of miscellaneous environments of interests, hands, and other everyday types of scenery that appear in the thing I’m taking screencaps of.

You can use any size you want for RP icons but the most common is 100x100 or 150x150 pixels.  Any smaller than that and the image gets to be difficult to read and work with in my opinion. That doesn’t stop people, of course, but I’m elderly and need glasses now, so no tiny icons for me.  On that note, I rarely see RP icons larger than 300x300. Any larger than that it tends to get bulky and be in the way of other people’s comfortable internet browsing experience, especially on mobile.  Of course, these are just my suggestions. What you choose will ultimately be up to you, but somewhere in that 100 to 300 px range is pretty safe.

A very tumblr specific thing to know is that any image that is wider than 300 pixels will be stretched to hell, so you probably want to keep it smaller than that.

Also, don’t be afraid to make trash images for fun if you’re so inclined. People love that, or at least I do. Not having the right icon can be fun and lead to a very silly solution. Lean into being a shitposter if that’s what you’re called to do. 

So yeah, that’s basically what my suggestions are. Collect your images in a way that helps cohesion and ease of use. Keep them a good size. Don’t be afraid to get unconventional with your choices or make memes or whatever. It’s all for a fun time.

Success. I’ve sufficiently pestered the wench to make me a blog, much to the cost of a certain behorned mischief god whose presence I must share. Follow the rules below, and there’ll be smooth sailin’, savvy?

This be an exceptionally selective blog. I was me mun’s first ever muse yonks back and I’ve pestered her into writing me again, BUT, she’s horribly pressed for time. Partners will likely be very few, else ones doubling up with Loki’s. Anyone is welcome to approach and enquire, but she and I will be leaning toward those either from me own universe or crossovers with which she’s highly familiar and characters in whom she’s especially interested. Ye have been warned.

Replies are like to be slow, up to a few weeks at most.

Hi, guys. I’m Pirate (oddly known as this long before I made Jack a tumblr). Here are my more detailed rules and guidelines for writing with me on this blog, though the absolute basics are at the top as, honestly, it’s never easy to remember everyone’s requirements.

Jack is a sideblog. If you’re being followed by a benevolentgodloki that means I’m following you back. I don’t need us to be mutuals (both following each other) for us to write together, but there is a greater chance of us having a partnership if we’re letting each other know we’re interested.

How I Roll

I note myself as ‘highly selective’. This isn’t to be an elitist bugger, it’s because we all only have a limited amount of time we can put in. I want to write what I enjoy with people I enjoy. I am married with two attention-seeking cats, two jobs, a slow-brewing intended writing career and a video game addiction.

Asks/Memes - I will usually answer these no matter who they are from but I may or may not turn them into a thread I intend to keep. Some memes are very much designed to be something that continues so context can be key. If you would like to know in advance whether I intend to answer and/or keep something, please do pop me a message and I will be kind and honest.

My Threads - While Jack’s blog is still exciting and new, I’m being a bit all over the place with who and what I reply to depending on which way Jack’s.. compass.. is pointing. I do have a rolling turn order that I adhere to (to the point that I can genuinely tell you who is next at any given moment) but it’s all piled in with Loki’s threads, meaning I can take a few weeks to get round everything. Every partner gets one of their threads answered within that ‘round’ and then I go round again. However, when I’m really into something/finding something easy to pop back, I treat myself to spamming certain threads or partners at my whim. I use rpthreadtracker.com to maintain what I have. 

I will remind partners of threads that have not been replied to for more than three months. If I do not do this, I have either forgotten/lost it myself, I’m not too fussed about keeping it at that stage, or you were absent for a long period of time. 

My Style - I will write in both past or present tense depending on partner preference. My default is past but I like either. Please kick me if I screw up and write the wrong one. I prefer using regular size font but I will make mine small on replies to people who use the smaller so that it looks neat. I will often match partners’ lengths and some formatting details e.g. bolding dialogue, but I struggle with doing novella-length posts for reasons below.

I have a bugbear to admit about role-play. What we call splicing. A good half of my partners write this way so I’m not about to tell everyone to stop but if you’re someone who does this, you will occasionally run into some frustrations when writing with me. ‘Splicing’ is when you retrospectively write dialogue or actions as having previously happened during your partner’s last post. These things are fine when they’re passive i.e. your character muttered them, thought them or you were writing what your character was doing at the time because that’s pretty much essential. The trouble comes usually when my characters talk a lot/ask rhetorical questions and partners choose to answer every single one despite the fact my character carried on talking. I know it’s an ass that I have talkative muses and you really want to respond to every point/get a word in, but putting words and actions into the past effectively godmods my muse into accepting they happened. If you feel your muse would have full-on interjected midway through their ramble, please ask me to edit my post/stop it at that point. Otherwise if you do prefer to splice, my muse will only respond to whatever it is your character did or said last in their post. This is one of the reasons I can’t write novella, because often there is only so much you can write before you’re stepping into the territory of changing what went before and not allowing your partner to do anything about it.

TL;DR don’t ever worry about your post being too short for me. If it’s one sentence long but it’s because something fast-paced is happening, I won’t be miffed.

Shipping! - no not that kind of ship, Jack. I love shipping. Ships all around. Let’s face it, romance can be one of the most exciting reasons we bother writing. I am open to a lot of ships for Jack, practically all of them. Yes, even that one. I will do downright nasty, toxic, horrible stuff, savvy? It’s fiction and Jack is a great indulgence for bad things happening to him as much as good. That said, of course don’t force something on him without prior agreement between us. Well, I mean, your muse can try and accost him and see what he does, just don’t expect him to definitely reciprocate. Jack and I are bi/pansexual. We’re open to everything. I will admit a heavy lean toward m/m but, that said, Jack is extremely fond of the ladies, more so than Loki. I am very into Sparrington especially.

Not Safe For Ye Olde Work

Sliding down from the above topic, I enjoy the occasional smutting. It is not a requirement from my partners. In fact, I’m warming very much to fading to black depending on the context/mood/if things feel a bit repetitive. I do feel a touch more comfortable with partners who don’t need that boundary but as I’ve recently figured ‘if it needs a cut, then it’s smut’ I know when to skip on.

Saucy material will go under cuts/Read More’s and be tagged as mentioned above with ‘filthy pirate’. Additional tags will be based on the citrus scale: ‘lime’ for general grabbing, ‘lemon’ for full on sexual content and ‘grapefruit’ if things get extra kinky. I will tag things such as ‘rape tw’ or ‘noncon tw’ or ‘dubcon tw’ where necessary. Please blacklist any or all of these at your leisure, or search them if you fancy :U I do NOT tag these as ‘ns.fw’ because tumblr just completely hides them from being searchable which is useless for my partners.

OC’s - Due to my time constraints I am extremely picky when it comes to OC’s. This is a good fandom for well-thought-out muses and I know firsthand how hard it is to make headway as an OC in the RP world. However, I also understand that for people like me, I want to dip in on this site to mostly play with the characters and worlds I’m really absorbed in and ship my weaselly black guts out. Some people have more time than others to really give your OCs the time and love they deserve. Unless I’ve played with you a long time and I really like the cut of your and your muse’s jib, it’s very unlikely I’ll bite. Apologies! The same goes for crossover muses from fandoms I’m unfamiliar with, but I will let you know if that’s the case.

Limits

Threads - I don’t have a strict limit on how many to have per person but please bear in mind that the more of these you have with me the longer it will take me to get to a particular one (unless I’m spamming it back and forth). This is more a mun/muse context how many I accept.

Exclusives/mains - I don’t do these although I may consider having a maximum of 3 or 4 of one muse depending on activity levels and to ensure plots don’t get mixed up or attention feel unfairly balanced.

Triggers/squicks - I don’t like body horror e.g. graphic detail of squishy bits having bad things happen to them. I’m writing a pirate so there’s absolutely allowed to be elements of torture/violence, just don’t stab him in the eye or chop bits off him. One torture-related thing sends me into a complete freakout which I’ll discuss with partners if we’re doing a thread of that ilk as needed. Kink-wise I’m not into mpreg, A/B/O or infantilism or toilet things. Just ask me/Jack if you’re after something XD

Who I Am/What I Need From You

Being yourself is the most important thing and I promise I am not a scary person (usually). We’re only human and it’s natural that we’ll get along better with some rather than others. This is more to give you a gist of the sort of person I am and who I gel with best.

So I’m a shy hermit at the best of times. I’m trying to be better at engaging and enthusing with partners over our threads because I realise more than ever this does keep things alive and make for a more enjoyable experience. I’m not always great at it. I work best with people who are patient and don’t worry too much on what I think of them and their writing, with people who are happy to keep threads going for the longhaul rather than keep dropping everything before I’ve had the time to get to the next post, and most especially people who accept that fiction =/= reality. I do need a certain level of quality, which doesn’t always mean perfect grammar, but it must be coherent, fun and creative. I like a relaxed approach, sharing mutual enjoyment in silly fantasy world sandboxes as escapism from (and exploration of) this complicated world we live in.

thats what inspired me to start shipping 2 of my own damn ocs!!! i mostly only do that in writing when i think 2 of my characters have a neat bit o’ chemistry (freshman year i wrote a story where there were 2 love interests.  one a man one a woman just to b like “YO!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have multiple favourites but because it was the first one i thought of, i’m gonna give kudos to the third trial in sdr2. it was especially interesting because the murderer seemed obvious if you only took in the basic facts, but when you know what kind of person mikan is, it seems completely preposterous that she’d do such a thing-- which makes the solving of it all the more DELICIOUS... oh it was so good i loved it... the whole time i kept searching and searching for any answer other than mikan and coming up with nothing, and knowing that, i knew that it had to be her, but i couldn’t fathom the why and that alone was enough to keep me in doubt for ages... the very end when she starts to break down eliminated my doubt but my questions of “why” only increased tenfold and it made it even MORE delectable i fucking LOVE puzzle’s and mystery’s

i refuse to acknowledge the fandom for long enough to notice which characters are classified as underrated for the most part because i live in my own brain palace where i can love every character and that is all that matters. that being said, i think it is fairly obvious that hoshi from v3 is underrated just... factually speaking? people do not pay attention to him very much it seems but it also seems he is a good little man. i know little about him, but that is the technical definition of underrated, so that is my answer i guess

Have you ever wondered what Ryuu would be like or what her story would be like if Jiraiya wasn’t her father?

     That’s a wonderful question, nonny! Buckle up, we’re going on an adventure!

     So in the first draft of Ryū’s story, something I based of formative RPs with a few friends long before Tumblr (a verse known as A Light Amongst Shadows), I hadn’t actually made that connection yet! So in her “OG” story, he actually wasn’t her father! At least, not in the first draft, and I didn’t make any major changes to HER between drafts.

     Upon editing it sometime into writing it, I thought it would make a neat connection. Ryū’s mother Reika also had sage training (in another branch of course, based on healing). She would travel as a healer across many lands, and try to preach a little peace because her village wasn’t a shinobi one (as all Suigin women have done since their clan’s founding by the dragon sage Suigin). Instead, they were healers who always cleaned up AFTER shinobi. Hence their clan’s distaste of violence. 

     Who does that vaguely sound like? Jiraiya! Which...wasn’t my intention to begin with: I just...really love medic characters ahaha. Hence making an entire clan, location, etc JUST for a clan of healers to write! And I also love dragons, so...hence making some nomadic, dragon-based healers! Reika’s parallels to Jiraiya were purely coincidental. He wasn’t actually a character I thought much about until coming here to RP.

     ANYWHO, it became a little mini headcanon of mine that they ran into each other on the road, traveled together for a while due to similar goals / teachings, got a little closer, and WHOOPs, Rieka became pregnant! Before...fleeing because she was scared and a bit jilted at Jiraiya’s flirty nature to other women. And even then, it was never bluntly SAID in the fic, it was going to be hinted at, JUST ONCE, and never extrapolated on. Ryū never actually LEARNED that Jiraiya was her father. It was up to the reader to sniff that fact out. So in reality, it really DIDN’T impact her at all. It was just a fun fact (and helped justify her height - she’s a good bit taller than most females in Naruto, and that helped explain it haha). So in all honesty, Ryū’s story before coming to Tumblr really didn’t see any impact on her or her personality in regards to who her father was. She was never to be made aware. So at that point, you could argue that her father’s identity really DOESN’T, by default, affect her.

     Nowww, a while into being here on Tumblr, we met the ever-lovely @frogprinceus. I was so psyched to have a Jiraiya to write with, especially one so well-written! But I was super shy about bringing up the HC, because I know not everyone takes kindly to fandom OCs being connected / related to canon characters. But Mitsuki is a TOTAL sweetheart, and immediately plotted with me once I got the gall to mention it xD

     So, now to your ACTUAL question: the differences. This...varies a bit, but I’ll try to keep it short (yeah right - I always ramble ahaha).

     The default verse I have with Mitsuki for Ryū is when Jiraiya actually DOES find her when she’s young and newly brought to Konoha, and finds out he’s her dad WAY before it was ever meant to happen in ALAS. So, Ryū gets put into an actual family, her BLOOD family, and grows up with him (and a wee Naruto). There’s some...slight changes to her here, but not a whole lot? She’s a little bolder from a younger age due to not being as mistreated and alone. Maybe a little sassier. But she’s still the same patient, kind, and motherly medic we all know and love!

     Another verse is based more on the ALAS timeline, with Ryū only meeting and learning about Jiraiya after he comes back to Konoha to help find Tsunade. In ALAS, she meets him then, and he just muses about how she looks a lot like her mother, Reika. And that’s as far as it goes in that verse. BUT, with Mitsuki, her Jiraiya actually digs further, steals a few Ryū hairs, and finds out for sure that they’re related. Which leads to father-daughter bonding, just...way later, when she’s like 18+ (depending on the exactly time frame). In this case, the changes are even smaller to her character due to her not growing up with him, and being an adult at that time. But of course she has a big boost in happiness for finally know who her father is, and knowing she’s not alone!

     Now, in talk purely about genetics...nothing would really change either way. Yes Jiraiya has white hair, but Ryū’s appearance is actually due to her kekkei genkai and chakra, which turns all of a Suigin’s hair white (and yes I mean ALL hair haha), and their eyes a white-grey: because their chakra (which is very potent) is white! I guess maybe she might be shorter, but...if it were just a John Doe as her dad, I could still have him be tall and thus keep her height. That part isn’t too important lol

     ANYWAY, now that this post is...ridiculously long, I hope that answers your question dear nonny! While a few small things about Ryū change one way or the other as far as Jiraiya is concerned, she largely remains the same. While there’s arguments to be had about nature vs nurture, I believe that Ryū’s core personality and behavior are largely set due to both just who she is, and key points of her overall story (shared between main verses).

I don't know about your ocs, but here's a question- it's their first time playing D&D. What classes and roles do they gravitate towards, and why?

I’ve got a ton of OCs (like a hundred ahah, writer problems !), but I’ve got a group of kids that could possibly play D&D together, so I’m gonna answer with these four doofuses ! (I mean, Tsukiko could play, but... She’d need friends for that...)

Under cut because it got long, and it’s probs not very interesting for other people ! :

Alphonse : definitely something hitty, probably an unarmed fighter, because “magic isn’t real” and also he would love to be “““““““a normal boy“““““““ that expresses emotions through violence. Everyone then proceeds to laugh about his character that’s so desperately strong and great and amazing, because that’s what friends are for. As for a race, he’d probably pick something classic, like an elf, and not realise that an elven fighter is actually kind of cool. Lawful good, because Alphonse may want to be a rebel, but deep down he fully believes laws are the best, so yeah. Not necessarily a nice character though. He’s kind of bland until one memorable session where the character is confronted to an emotional dilemma and breaks and everyone sits in silence as Laureliel Valanerian or whatever becomes three dimensional. Unintentionally very gay, but like, it’s Alphonse, so no one’s surprised.

Alice : wild sorcerer or barbarian, something intense and not too complicated to play. She’s the kind of person who just makes a character that embodies everything they like doing in real life, and in Alice’s case it’s being very loud and jumping around a lot. Chaotic, probably ! There’s a couple tense sessions where she listens to Emilie’s carefully crafted plan and then says “ok lol” and does the exact opposite, but like... Consciously ? And it leads to very complicated situations that she always manages to overcome, but boy, the suspense ! Also, she totally is a tabaxi and names them (or a member of their close family) like her cat, though a halfling would really fit her.

Mihael : Mihael is the DM, because... Who else is gonna play nerd games here really :/ Lots of jungles, lots of Indiana Jones-esque situations, cryptids, and mounts of really obscure trivia about unknown mythological monsters - not very big on the rp style until he realises everyone has fun when they talk to each other and he slowly tries to incorporate more dialogue-friendly sessions, which turns their weekly game into something a little more interesting and engaging that they talk enthusiastically about at lunch in school !! As a player, maybe a... Wizard ? A casting class, for sure ! He doesn’t mind complicated spell sheets. And he would enjoy playing less used, almost homemade classes, just because he likes delving into that stuff (batfolks, warforged, undeads and the likes !)

Emilie : Mihael lends her a couple books one day and she just learns EVERYTHING about it and I’d never thought about it before, but that’s EXACTLY the kind of thing she’d be crazy interested in (fantasy escapism, but also genealogies and rules and history !!), so thanks for making me think about it ! If they were to play a campaign, she’d be the best PC in the whole story, always finding ways to tie the world together, very into the roleplaying style (she’s used to play a role, but for once it’s a role that’s just fun, so that’s neat), maybe a political figure of some sorts ? She’d make her character be very clever, very cunning, and family-free. Either a cleric or a warlock for that good Gods content, or an artificer, because it’s fun ! She’d stay on the classic part of races though, probably a human or at best a half-elf. She completely, utterly seduces Alice’s character and there’s big “HOW ARE YOU SO GOOD AT THIS” shouts of incredulity as her small human courtier says the exact words the tabaxi have been dying to hear their whole life, without even looking at the character sheet.

11. How do you come up with your fic titles?

ngl it just sort of... happens? I’ll be writing and then I’ll go “oh FUCK I need a title” and 9 times outta 10 it ends up a joke. placeholder names tend to be whatever characters are involved or whatever ik will remind me of the fic, if it even gets a placeholder name. “Duktra”. “Enslog’ph”. “Fern bby are you okay”. “Aila come out of the closet you grimdark bastard”. all placeholders the moment they move to their own document. “Give Enny A Decent Dad 2019″ is not a placeholder. the only difference is I took the time to capitalize shit.

13. Do you outline your fics? How much of a headache would someone get if they just looked at an outline of yours without reading the fic?

sometimes yes sometimes no! mostly no. the Enslog’ph outline is. okay it doesn’t even focus on what the fic’s focusing on now but it’s at least coherent, even if it goes into two branching paths. another Enny fic I have going has a two-sentence outline that is. technically correct. nothing headache-inducing but very Vague and Frustrating to look at.

16. Do you research for your fics? If so, how deep of a rabbit hole have you gone down by accident when researching?

depends on if looking for my own character lore is research! if not, nothing really takes that much research. if yes... every time I go to find character lore I end up reading through hours’ worth of rps just to find How West Types or Enzo’s Height Compared To Ryze’s or.... yeah. I did that today. it was nice and also a fucking ride bcause I ended up reading the ENTIRETY of the rp channel for an au and then an hour of dms.

18. Do you have a WIP that you keep telling yourself you’ll eventually get back to, but deep down you know that’s probably a lie?

anything on my OG writing document. like... look. we all know I’m not finishing any of those Aila fics. I’m not gonna wrap em up concisely. I’m probably not gonna finish that superhero au fic where Nuad gets to see just how much Enny’s affected by her false memories. the impulse Wynn and Aila monster au fic is not getting finished. except. wait. fuck. now I want to work on that. depends who I’m sharing them with! I don’t edit them before showing people in dms. I do edit them before putting them on here or ao3. the editing process is... minimal. I will say that. Ro helps though!

20. What’s your favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?

just getting that rush of an idea that I spit out most of in an afternoon, or not being able to go to sleep so I shrug and just let the midnight creativity carry me through another fic! the initial inspiration for an idea mostly. and also reading it back, sometimes.

21. What’s your least favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?

when I inevitably get stuck and have to actually FIGURE OUT WHERE I WANT IT TO GO.... also trying to wrap it up into a neat conclusion. fuck that. this is a scene lifted from daily life out of a series of moments that never stop how tf am I supposed to give it an ENDING??? it leans into the rest. time doesn’t stop on  the hour every hour it flows into it! bluhhhh.

I used to do oneshot requests but uhhhh my motivation is inconsistent and it felt like promising something I couldn’t deliver ig? I’d take them again if anyone wanted specific fic about my ocs though! I just. I’m not invested enough in any canon stuff to write things people would request for. the stuff I AM invested in doesn’t have a huge following and I’m too close to it to feel anything but insecure about writing it! like... yeah I could feel comfortable writing some wild Homestuck shit if I were still invested in it. because Homestuck exists in the view of the masses and has for a while and there’s so many takes on the characters. but I don’t feel comfortable writing, say, Watt, because Netnavi RP is so much smaller and if I write stuff I’d be like... the ONLY PERSON. there are so few takes on character voices there. the large community versus small community terrifies me bcause if you write your take on a character in an ocean it’s like yep that’s just another stranger. if you write your take on a character in a kiddie pool everyone can see you doing it and there’s nothing to compare it to either way. the moment someone else writes something it will be immediately judged against yours. it just. terrifies me y’know?

Aka: try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals.   —  I swear he’s not as bad as he seems!!! sure he’s grouchy, but deep down (like pretty much all of my characters,,,,) he means well and is actually kind of a softie but he’s got a loot of bottled up pain he’s been holding onto for literally like 1000 years. the selling point I usually give which I guess is the thing I like about characters or rping my characters in particular is that he’s got a very deep and nuanced psychological profile. he’s like a puzzle waiting to be solved. I’ve got what I think is a pretty satisfying character arc for him, but it won’t be possible without the power of friendship. he’s definitely got an inhuman nature to him, but I think he has the real potential to be a good companion once you get past his walls.

Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).   ���   god he’s so rude. he is NOT here to make friends even though he kind of really would super like to make friends. he uses a lot of short, choppy sentences and sometimes getting a conversation out of him is like pulling teeth (it’s a good thing he’s a shark so he’s got plenty of teeth to pull). I truly applaud any muse who has the patience to try to talk to him. not to mention he can’t leave his lake. yet. I know that kind of limits things.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RP YOUR MUSE?   —  I have had this boy for many years and IDK! I just think he’s neat!! I like fish and I like pain (and gradual catharsis) and this boy is a fish with plenty of pain! eventually I was just thinking about him a lot and wanted to do something with him so I made a blog.

WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION GOING?   —   I DON’T know. I’m tryna keep on truckin... my moods for my muses just shift back and forth. I like them and I want other people to like them.

I’d like to know why. but overall my characters have real flaws and traits that not everybody or their muse is going to jive with and that’s chill. I mean if someone takes it personally to hate my character... I’d be open for discussion if someone thought there was something genuinely harmful?

Starstruck

Saw an old OTPPrompt that went something like.

Person A is a famous celebrity, but Person B had no idea until they are on a red carpet one night. 

Can’t remember exactly, but either way I was excited to write this based on some ocs. 

These characters are also based in an rp

Allura smoothed out the skirt to the black dress she was wearing. It was one Yukio helped her pick out for the night because of some sort of special plans they had. The skirt was pleated and ended at around her knees, the top could easily be turned strapless as it had lace covering from the top of her bust to the collar area. She wore black court shoe heels with golden ankle cuffs.

She remembered that Yukio said the event was somewhat fancy and to just dress how she felt appropriate, but there wasn’t much she could think of there. The only thing she did past the outfit was put her hair up into a nice, but not-so-neat bun and the only jewelry she wore was the white gold bracelet he gifted her early on in their relationship.

The redhead was unsure of the plans tonight and she assumed it was some sort of major date since their six months of being together was approaching. She smiled at herself in the mirror and jumped as she heard the doorbell. Grabbing a purse she quickly went to the front and opened the door. Her smile seemed to grow as she saw Yukio dressed up in a suit. His usual smirk on his face as he looked over her outfit.

“You look beautiful.”

Allura blushed as he leaned in and kissed her cheek, “I feel like I might end up being under dressed.”

“Not at all. You look perfect. Let’s go.”

She linked her arm to his and followed him down the pavement and raised an eyebrow as a limo was parked in front of her house, she looked up to him in question but she got no answer as Yukio just grinned and opened the door, letting her get in first.

Silence held in the air for a moment before she finally spoke, “Okay, so what’s with the limo? I know you like to be extravagant, but why?”

“I told you, this is something pretty fancy, didn’t I?”

“But a limo?”

“Trust me, it’ll be fine.” He kissed her forehead lightly and placed his hand against her thigh.

She only shook her head and looked out the window, “You know I hate surprises.”

“That I do, but this one will be fun.”

 Time passed and Allura’s eyes widened some as the limo went past a large mass of people, holding cameras and the like and when the limo stopped she glanced to Yukio’s side and saw a vast red carpet lined out.

“Well. We’re at a movie premier.”

“How did you get access to a movie premier?”

“One where your boyfriend is the star.”

Allura just looked at him, confusion still present on her face as Yukio laughed.

“Wait, so you really didn’t know all this time?”

“Know what?”

“I’m not sure if I should feel bad that you’re so distant from the media or find it cute.”

“Yukio, what the hell are you talking about?”

“Allura, I’m the Yukio Mori. I’ve been in several movies. Are you telling me you haven’t seen any?”

Allura’s face turned a light pink and she huffed softly, “I told you I don’t watch movies or pay attention to media. I mostly just read and focus on schoolwork.”

Yukio chuckled softly and kissed her cheek, “This whole time I thought you just pretended like you didn’t know who I was to make me feel better. Well looks like you’ll be very acquainted with it tonight.”

Without saying anything else he opened up the door of the limo and stepped out, as he did several cameras went off and Allura could feel her nervousness spike, he leaned down and offered his hand to help her out.

“I… I don’t think I can do this.”

“You’ll be fine. You can hide against me if it’ll help.”

She mumbled under her breath but took his hand and let him help her out of the limo. Before she could cower back in the door shut and she was pulled to her boyfriend’s side, several cameras going off around them and she kept her eyes focused towards Yukio and away from those around them.

Allura could hear several questions coming their way about her and about their relationship and she was somewhat in awe and how easily Yukio spoke up about their relationship and such.

“How long have you been together?”

“Almost six months.”

“How have you kept this relationship so underwraps? Did your co-stars know?”

“It was pretty easy, and only two of them did.”

As they continued the walk she managed to look up every once and awhile and smile some to not seem rude, but she soon found out this was a mistake as questions started being directed towards her.

“Miss, what is it like being with the big star of the film?”

As she went to respond Yukio interrupted, “Don’t fluster the poor girl, she isn’t used to this sort of attention. Stick to asking me the questions for now.”

She followed him down the red carpet and finally they got into the theater where the movie would be shown. Yukio looked to Allura and couldn’t help but to chuckle, “Well I think that went well.”

“If hiding behind you and blushing the entire time is well, then I don’t want to know what a disaster would be.”

Yukio grinned at her and kissed her lightly, “Don’t worry, Bumblebee. It’ll get easier.”

“I don’t think I can handle it.”

He pulled her into a close hug and somewhere nearby a camera went off, causing Yukio to sigh quietly, he leaned in and whispered in her ear, “We can stay out of the limelight. It just meant a lot for you to be here with me. After this if you don’t want to come to these events anymore let me know.”

Allura nodded then leaned into him. She let herself be held by him before looking up and smiling, “I just wish I could have been a little better prepared beforehand…”

“You did well, after all. None of them expected a whole lot other than to see if they could rattle you.”

She nodded again and grey eyes met with red and they both smiled to each other, content to have the other with them in this moment. They shared a sweet kiss, neither of them paying attention to the sound of cameras nearby as he introduced her to those around him. They headed into the showing room, acting as if the day was normal.

Appearance:

Dark skin and deep brown eyes are quite often found in the Narfeni islands but never carried with the grace and status Tahir carries himself. The son of two Oracles, born and raised like a prince but always with a humble and calm expression despite his younger years of fun and excess. Tahir prefers his hair long, over his shoulders in messy locks that are sometimes braided to maintain away form his face. Otherwise, he keeps his hair short and neat, comfortable under his tunic’s hoods.

Loyal to his heritage, Tahir prefers bright robes with red, blue and golden colors. He keeps plenty of rings of all colors, shapes and precious stones in his fingers and a single golden ring at the end of his nose. Tahir also carries two necklaces; one with a dark blue, almost black crystal and another transparent crystal that belonged to his twin brother Siraj.

Finally, he has the tattoo of two intertwining snakes, one in black ink and another in white on the inside of his left arm.

Personality:

[ + ] Curious - Books have always been Tahir’s first love. His parents library was his sanctuary, intelligent eyes going through every word and spell and trick in them. He watched his parents work carefully, wondering when his time to practice his magic would come and the day it did was the happiest day of his life. From that day on, Tahir has never stopped experimenting on every type of magic he can get his hands on.

[ + ] Observant - Tahir is the type of man that sits back, watches carefully and takes notes. He dislikes violence and unnecessary deaths; he believes in balance in all things, and the fact that observing nature and human behavior grants all the answers they need. He often watches and listens to people with a kind, barely there smile to commit all information to memory.

[ + ] Calm - Death is silent, calm and all-powerful. Tahir aims to be the same, unbothered by simple remarks or taunts, he always has a relaxed, almost aloof attitude that bothers most of his enemies but he prefers it that way. He knows death is unavoidable and all else is temporary, so he smokes and drinks and reads. Time is, after all, endless.

[ + ] Humble - Tahir has a very particular set of skill; a luck, some might say. He knows his ability to handle the shadow element without fear of corruption is a strange thing, born of his brother’s sacrifice and protection, so he remains humble and kind. Death is to be respected, and so is the shadow element, so claiming power over it is not something Tahir would ever do.

[ - ] Obsessive - Knowledge is power, his father always said, and even though Tahir doesn’t care about power, he really cares about knowledge. His search for knowledge took him to Eldris, searching for the unknown and all the things that are foreign to him in the islands. He extends his kindness to the Wardens, but he’s set in only one goal and will do anything to achieve it.

[ - ] Self-centered - The death of Siraj marked a before an after in Tahir’s life. His brother was his partner in crime, the other half of his soul and the light to his darkness. After their souls were bound together, Tahir forgot about love, friendship and some times, even family. He only focused on himself and his mission to free his brother and release his soul, no matter how much the thought of letting him go hurts him.

[ - ] Conceited - Like the son of every Oracle, Tahir has never known need or hunger. He isn’t a prince, but was always treated like one. Both his parents were important Oracles in their tribe and gave him and his siblings years of the best life they could wish for, including every whim and excess his heart desired. Tahir is used to the good life and even though he adapts to every environment without much complain, he prefers warm sun and silky sheets any day.

[ - ] Solitary - After the death of his twin brother and the binding of their souls, Tahir became a solitary man. He believes he needs nothing and no one, that his mission is clear and nothing could take him away from his path. He went from having lots of friends to being only focused on his studies and pilgrimage.

C H A R A C T E R - B A C K G R O U N D

History:

A blessing of the Balance, the Elders would say when they revealed that the Oracle Ibtissam Ibn Sa’id, an expert in the shadow element, was pregnant with two children. The twins were born strong and surrounded by gifts and praise; a true miracle that proved light and shadows coexisted as one in the hearts of their people. Tahir and Siraj were raised as one, a single soul split in two and their parents couldn’t be happier. Two boys to continue their legacy, it was only a matter of time until their powers manifested.

And manifest they did. Siraj was always the kinder of the two, a smart head on his shoulders that was ruled by his heart, their father would always say, while Tahir was reckless and curious, always going after every book he could get his hands on and when he wasn’t reading, he was getting his brother in trouble. There are rules that forbid hurting a spellcaster in the Narfeni islands, but those rules do not apply to Oracle’s children before their powers manifest.

It was in one of those adventures where the boys found out about their powers and respective affinities. Siraj protecting them both with a bright, glowing white shield while Tahir covered their attackers with dark, thick smoke; offense and defense, light and darkness. The perfect balance.

News of the boys abilities spread quickly and the next day they were surrounded by tutors, more books than they could imagine and their parents pleased smiles. It was also around that time that their mother announced her second pregnancy. A girl this time, that was born soon after by the name of Amira. The boys that shared everything now had something else to share, their love for their little sister.

Years passed and sharing books turned into sharing pipes, women, men and wine. Whenever Tahir went, Siraj followed and as they grew into adulthood, so did their strength and skill until one day their youth wasn’t enough to protect them and both brothers fell ill with a burning fever, a plague that killed hundreds, peasants and kings. Siraj, a healer by nature, stood stronger against the fever but his brother Tahir grew weaker with each passing day. The reckless boy with the bright smile and the challenging eyes was withering away like a flower.

That’s when Siraj summoned their father.

They were both dying, the Elders said, but if they fought it together, they would be strong enough to survive, and so Siraj begged. He begged his father to let him die, to bind his soul to his brother’s, his sacrifice giving him the last bit of strength needed to fight. His father immediately refused, tears in his eyes, but couldn’t deny the fact that his son was right. If he didn’t do it, his two boys would leave the world forever, so he called for his wife, they said their goodbyes and started the ritual.

When Tahir woke up, his brother was gone and his only reminder was the matching tattoo they had gotten together of a white and black snake on his arm.

The grief was the worst feeling Tahir had ever experienced. He respected death and cared for the shadows and the secrets they reveled to him but he can only remember darkness at the time. Tears fell from hours until they were transformed into anger, screams and the cracking sound of magic twisting up his arm in dark clouds of smoke before going back to pained cries like an endless cycle. It took the boy a week to exhaust himself and the moment he had given up on crying over his dead brother, he saw it. A white snake, a mirror of the one in his arm, twisting and turning up his arm like smoke.

Siraj.

He could not believe their parents would do that, sacrifice one of their children to save the other but he could feel his brother’s distress, the pain and love and happiness that he was alive and Tahir couldn’t blame them. Siraj had always been the kinder one, the one with light in his heart, and Tahir had to respect his last wish and keep his brother’s memory alive.

Life continued after that, the emptiness his brother had left never filling but at least he knew his soul was still with him. Tahir became obsessed with knowledge, his old reckless self completely forgotten and he closed himself off to friends and lovers, only maintaining a close relationship with his tutors, parents and sister. He needed to continue his studies, learn all he could and when he was ready, release his brother’s soul in thanks for saving his life.

Finally, the day came. The preparations were set and Tahir was ready to start his journey, his pilgrimage to obtain knowledge and experience and finally become an Oracle like his parents were and like his brother would’ve been. When the Elders sent him to Eldris, Tahir could only smile.

Siraj would’ve loved Eldris.

Reason for joining the Wardens:

Tahir joined the Wardens out of mere curiosity, he’d say. As any Oracle in training, the Elders demand a pilgrimage, which is often done through the eight Narfeni islands, meeting with other Oracles and Elders but being the son of an Oracle granted Tahir and his family enough opportunity to see their secluded paradise, and sensing the distress that’s brewing in the continent, they decided Tahir’s abilities would be put to better use in Eldris. After months of traveling the sea and a month or so riding from town to town all the way up from Varthal until Miwor Town, Tahir found himself a group of very peculiar people from all parts of the continents and every set of skills imaginable, and out of mere curiosity for them and the knowledge they could provide, he decided to stay. He doesn’t understand or care much for the rifts and the danger that’s been growing in the northern parts of the continent, but he’s a kind soul with a useful set of skills so if the price for knowledge is fighting with them, he’ll gladly pay it with his loyalty.

Desired Connections:

Tahir doesn’t know any of the Wardens since he just started his pilgrimage a month or so ago. Eldris is an unknown continent to him and so are their customs and people. As a desired connection I could only imagine his younger sister, Amira Ibn Sa’id, who can be either a priest as well (like their parents), or a mage. They both come from the Narfeni islands and suffered through Siraj’s death when they were younger. She knows of Tahir’s bond to their brother and supports him on his decision to learn Necromancy to free him. She’s a very sweet child but also fiery in her beliefs and decisions. Tahir loves her and would protect her with his own life. It’d be a surprise to see her following him to Eldris since she isn’t old enough to begin her pilgrimage yet.
