Hello! May I request the hashira reaction to a child reader (6-7year) who's basically a yoriichi reincarnation? Like the hashira were struggling against an uppermoon, but reader interferred at a crucial moment and cut them down effortlessly with the hashira's own sword :] here comes the dilemma of how to proceed with a clearly abandoned child who's not a demon slayer yet easily managed to do what no hashira was able to do in centuries , not to mention their extremely young age. Thanks!
❕The hashira’s reaction to you as Yorichii’s reincarnation
You saving the hashira’s asses (with their own weapons!) as Yorichii’s child reincarnation.
Here’s my masterlist for the hashira.
Here’s my masterlist for the demons.
Note: Thank you for sending in a request! I hope I wrote it just the way you imagined and expected it. I think I struggled a little bit, but I you like it anyway, anon! <3 I’m thinking of making a part.2 with Giyu, Obanai, Mitsuri and Shinobu, but let’s see how this picks up first.
Pairing: Sanemi, Gyomei, Kyojuro, Tengen x gn!child!reader
💚 Sanemi Shinazugawa 💚
Sanemi was more impressed that he managed to fuck up this bad that he needed help from a frail child. He feels embarrassed. Embarrassment turn into humiliation, and that into rage. So, Sanemi did what he doest best. Yell and throw around insults.
What the fuck were you thinking, kid? You could’ve fucking died! How can you even lift my katana?? Your arm is thinner than my damn finger!!”
But deep down, he’s kind of impressed. How did you even manage to do that? You look starved and dirty, as if homeless or neglected. Your yukata was stained and old, and seemingly the only article of clothing you have, obvious by the lack of shoes and socks. Geez, you’ll get sick like that, Sanemi thinks.
But as Sanemi inspected you further (and snatching his katana out of your hands) he noticed some kind of mark on your forehead. Is this the demon slayer mark Muichiro and Mitsuri were talking about back then? That would explain where your energy and skill to kill a former Lower Moon came from. Sanemi also saw how dirty and filthy your hair was, but he could see the deep maroon colour and the red tips peeling through. If someone were to wash your hair, it would look beautiful. Maybe Sanemi could even braid it?
But this was something to think about later. You look like you’re gonna fall over and just die of dehydration or starvation at any moment, or just freeze to death on the spot. If he wants to or not, Sanemi has to take you in for the moment. He can bring you back to the estate and hand you over to Shinobu or something later.
Sanemi would pick you up, into his arms, and wrap his cropped haori around your fragile body to warm you up a little.
“Let’s grab something for you to eat and maybe some clean clothes m’kay? I’ll bring you somewhere safe. Here, I got some ohagi. Eat up, you’ll need the strength to walk. I won’t carry your ass forever.”
🤎 Gyomei Himejima 🤎
Gyomei likes being around children. They are innocent, fragile, weak and need to be protected. They lie, too, but Gyomei doesn’t take it to heart when they do. He never did. Children are children after all.
But when he met you, right after you simply beheaded Upper Moon Five while he struggled, Gyomei knew that you are not an ordinary child. You do not need protection, you are strong enough to take care of yourself, and he can sense the powerful aura you had. He never felt this strong of an aura before, ever. It was almost overwhelming to his heightened senses.
“You seem very strong for a child. Where did you learn all this skill?”
In the ranks of the hashira, no one besides Gyomei can wield his morningstar. It’s too unique and western-style of a weapon to be used by an ordinary slayer, if you ignore the heavy weight all together. It takes a lot of training to wield something like that.
With that being said, Gyomei was surprised to say the least when he heard how you swung his weapon with ease. He felt the heat it was radiating after you beheaded the demon. What kind of breathing were you using?
“You seem tired. How about I carry you back to my estate? It’s safe , and you can rest there. On our way there, we can talk about how you got this strong. Shall I carry you on my shoulders?”
❤️🔥 Kyojuro Rengoku ❤️🔥
(Let’s just imagine he never fought Akaza during the Muegen Train Arc)
Kyojuro was walking beside what’s left of the Lower Moon’s Muegen train, checking for any more survivors and passengers. Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu and Inouske were heading into the opposite direction to check the other half of the train, while Kyojuro inspected the head of the train (in hopes of finding his katana as well, wich he somehow lost).
That’s where he found you, buried underneath the rubble and remains of the train, luckily unscathed. Kyojuro was ecstatic to have found such a frail child like you in such a terrible situation.
“I’m glad I found you in time! Are you hurt? Hungry? Thirsty?”
But as Kyojuro inspected you, he recognised the yukata you were wearing. He could’ve swore that he saw someone similar flashing before his eyes, beheading the train with some kind of fiery technique. It wasn’t flame breathing, he would’ve recognised it immediately. It was more powerful, more bright. It resembled the power of the sun.
That’s when it hit him. Yes, it was indeed you who beheaded the Lower Moon! Your small stature, your aura. Kyojuro laughed loudly when he realised. You, a child, managed to defeat a Lower Moon! With his own sword as well! Even if you did snatch his katana when you had the chance to kill said demon, he forgave you. You saved them all after all.
He made a mental note to look through all the corps’ records, including the flame hashira archives his father Shinjuro keeps back in their home. Perhaps Kyojuro can find what kind of breathing technique you were using, in case you don’t know yourself.
Kyojuro took his haori off his uniform and wrapped you in it, lifting you off the ground and holding you close to his naturally heated body. You looked surprisingly neglected and starved, as if no one took care of you back home. If you even had a home.
“You did great defeating such a powerful Lower Moon! You should be proud of yourself! How about we share some bento boxes when we head back?”
(You ended up being forced to eat multiple bento boxes because Kyojuro was worried you might starve to death on him.)
🩷 Tengen Uzui 🩷
He is incredibly embarrassed. First, Tengen didn’t notice how Daki was not the real Upper Moon right away. Second, his hand gets sliced off clean. Third, he let his nichirin-blades get snatched by a child. And fourth, that said child managed to behead Gyutaro while that blonde kid and boar boy beheaded Daki. Tengen basically didn’t even do anything! He just let himself get poisoned and lost a hand, then just laid in dirt the rest of the fight. How unflashy and boring!
But he did notice the technique you used to behead the Gyutaro. It was fiery and bright, similar to his friend’s Kyojuro’s flire breathing, just that yours is much more powerful or something. Tengen made a mental note to ask his friend about the fire breathing techniques later.
“Hey kid, lend me a hand will ya?”
What a poor choice of words. He could tell that by your unimpressed expression, but you understood what he meant by that anyway. After giving him his blades back and lifting him off the ground, you helped him walk out of the rubble that was once the entertainment district. Tengen is surprised by your strength and that you’re even able to make him walk upright, but that surprise quickly turned into curiosity.
He noticed the red, flamey mark on your forehead and your dark, maroon hair. You looked very flashy, but neglected. You’re kinda dirty, too. Tengen thinks a little bit of make-up and a nice bath can make you look all flamboyant again! Oh, and yeah, he guesses you’re pretty strong too. But that’s beside the point for now.
Then, finally, Tengen was met with the lovely view of his wives.
“Lord Tengen!! You’re okay! We were so worried!! Waaahh!!”
“Be quiet, Suma! Can’t you see Tengen needs to rest?
“Who’s this little thing here? She looks so thin.”
“My new, flashy and flamboyant apprentice, Hina!”
💠
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed! Thank you again for requesting, I hope I wrote about what you had in mind. I just got a request for Genya, so I’ll be working on that soon as well.
Anyways, make sure to EAT, SLEEP and DRINK enough!
Take care of yourselves. <3

a tour of the hashira's estates part 8
Rengoku: As a son of a former hashira, Kyojuro spent his entire life growing up in the home of Shinjuro rengoku's estate.
So rengoku could've gotten an estate of his own at anytime after receivng funds at the hashira salary. but he decided to take care of his family. As his brother needed confidence in himself and his father was drinking away his depression. Despite the verbal and possibly physical abuse from his father he didn't let that distract him.
What I've notice after watching mugen train is rengoku has a habit in caring for other people quickly. Trying to take them under his wing and always saying he'll look after him. Like a mother taking in orphans he cares for everyone. So if he did have a hashira training arc, he would treat the slayers well. This isn't to say however he wouldn't be tough on you. He'll make you go through a grueling training just to bulk you up.
We have to remember this is a man who had to self train himself after his father stopped training him. But with his father leaving him to his own devices and a good book he fairly learns quickly.
Now as for his estate, its pretty small compared to the others. He also seems to live nearby a small town as many hashira do stay close to their respectable districts. Based on specific angles and how its laid out it is safe to say they don't own any land.
Rengoku also seems to have a bamboo and wheat growing behind his fence. This was shown in the dream sequence. It's possible they farm on day to day basis. After all he his a growing boy who needs to eat regularly like mitsuri.
He trains outside the front yard with his brother senjuro and he seems to spend alot of time out there when isn't on missions.
However he does have a dojo as he is seen training mitsuri in that dojo.
We've also seen one of the bedrooms as it is shows the room that leads to the front yard or possibly the backyard. Despite the room looking completely different in two pictures its possible ruka is sleeping on the other side of the room as this is still the same room room that leads out the front or backyard.
Wind chime in their ceiling
This is also the room shinjuro sleeps in and sadly the room his late wife past away peacefully. It's safe to say this is the master bedroom.
This could be senjuro's room as he uses it to have a private conversation with tanjiro. But it could just be another guest room not used.
Even though we never see kyojuro's room its possible he may share a room with senjuro due to many siblings sharing rooms together. It is very common in japan back then and now. But if he doesn't he may have a room in the estate as there could be many rooms not shown. We also have to remember mitsuri stayed there as a guest for 6 months of training. so I wouldn't be surprise if their were more rooms not shown.
Other than that, this is all we see including the dream sequence and flashbacks that were shown. Maybe in the future will see more of rengoku's life and origins as we got a flashback of rengoku's memories on how he defeated a lower moon.
I give it a 3 out of 5. As we saw some exterior and interior designs but not enough to show its qualities.

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States. The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science. SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research. The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network. Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor. Gary’s always loved science. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on his career in journalism and radio broadcasting. Gary’s radio career stretches back some 34 years including 26 at the ABC. He worked as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. He was part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and became one of its first on air presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary developed StarStuff which he wrote, produced and hosted, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually. However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage. Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently. StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode being broadcast in February 2016. Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times weekly (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.

Like Father (Thrawn x reader)
warnings: she/her, reader is referred to as a mother, set pre-Ahsoka
I wrote this a year ago and never published it, now I've reworked it to fit what we know
Set BABDM timeline
masterlist | chiss
.................................
"-so then we just use the formula 1/r^2 and it should give us the distance to that star..." Thatos's voice trailed off as he dove back into the complicated math problem he'd been working on for the past few minutes. His tongue poked out of the side of the mouth as he thought, an odd quirk he'd picked up a long time ago, and his stylus moved wildly across the page of durasheet he'd pulled from a sheaf you'd found the last time you were planetside.
Mitth'ato'saf was an odd child, you had to concede, even though he was your own blood. Where others his age would spend their free time lost in games or getting into trouble, he preferred to sit with a stylus and sheet to work out complex math problems. He was quiet and polite, friendly enough in his own subtle way, but more prone to keep his thoughts to himself until someone offered a kind ear. Which, unfortunately was a rare occurrence for the young boy amongst his peers. Which meant that you and his father were often the only two he'd really talk to. Like right now.
You stood in the living space you shared with Thatos and Thrawn in the little kitchenette shoved into the corner of the main room. Your lower back supported you against the counter you'd chose to lean against with arms folded firmly over your chest which made the bandolier about your torso dig in uncomfortably. The boy in question sat in the middle of the area, close to the door that led to his father's office but not so far away from the door to his own room that it would take too much effort to get himself new supplies. It'd been a slow day aboard the rebuilt Chimaera, meaning you'd been in and out of Thrawn's office all day, checking in on your son.
Your frequent stops were a bit unneeded. Thatos was a perfectly capable boy, even though he was only 10. And, if he got bored, you knew he'd wander his way either to Thrawn's observatory or to the bridge where you were stationed. And if you weren't on the bridge for him to talk to, Thatos would just as happily strike up a conversation with Enoch and Faro. And the two would humor the boy for a while till you came to collect him and ask if he needed anything.
Today, despite your vague hope that Thatos would get bored and ask to help you with something, the boy had been enthralled by his equations. He'd asked you the night prior about your home system; about the planets, the moons, asteroids and debris fields, and, of course, about the suns. You'd told him everything you could except for the size of your home system. Because, that was Thatos's entertainment. You knew he'd be busy researching and calculating the distances between the planets and the suns and everything else that made up your former home. And now, after nearly 6 hours of relentless calculating (inter-cut with an hour or two of mandatory rest instated by you) he was ready to show you everything he'd pieced together.
You had to hand it to your son, he was damn good at the math he enjoyed so much. "we get...1.578...um, oh!" He scribbled something out, bringing his nose near touching the floor to see what he was doing, and typed a few numbers into the calculator next to him, "1.5781e-5 light years!"
You hummed at the number he'd just thrown at you.
"So that means that light takes about 8 minutes to reach the surface of your home planet, 40 to get to the surface of Uncle Eli's, and 5 hours from the dwarf planet at the edge of your home system." Thatos finished proudly, puffing his chest just enough to pull a subtle laugh from you. When the young boy turned a playful glare on you, you stifled the laugh with an amending cough.
Thatos got to his feet unsteadily, legs sore from sitting crossed on the floor for so long no doubt, and wobbled over to you with the durasheet in hand. He passed it to you, that same proud puff of his chest still apparent.
"Hmm," you hummed, dragging a careful finger over the messy equations and scratched out calculations on the margins of this particular sheet, "good job, buddy." Although you didn't doubt Thatos was correct, you didn't know the times off the top of your head to confirm them. It had been years since you'd been back to the edge of Wild Space, let alone your home system. "I'm impressed."
"Aren't you going to check it?" Thatos asked, his pride slipping into sudden distress. His dark pink eyes stared up at you, milky irises darting back and forth as they tried to focus.
You doubled back, "Of course I'm going to check it," you soothed, reaching behind you to pluck your datapad off of the counter, "I just know that you're probably right, love."
That seemed to ease the boy's suddenly frazzled nerves. He settled back on his heels and waited with strained patience as you pulled up the specs of your home system and checked them against your son's messy scrawl. As you'd predicted - he was correct.
Reaching the durasheet out you gave it a little flutter to make she he’d heard. "As always, you were right, love."
Thatos made a happy hum in the back of his throat as he took the durasheet from you. Turning on his heel, he trodded a careful path back to his mess of stray sheets and styluses, feeling with his bare foot for any obstacles in his way. It was just as he’d settled into his previous spot that there came a small beep from the door leading to the office.
At the noise, Thatos's head snapped in the direction of the door he sat beside, pale eyes moving rapidly as he listened (and you did as well) for his father's footsteps. "Ticsi?" He called, shifting to sit on his knees and attempting to peer around the door (despite his inability to actually see) till he nearly toppled over.
The call of the young boy seemed to spur Thrawn on as his footsteps soon became quick and succinct, approaching swiftly. Thrawn's tall and lithe form appeared in the doorway shortly after. He had a datapad held aloft, clearly he'd been reading something on it, but at the sight of his young son Thrawn lowered the device till it tapped against his thigh. "Ritot, k'et." He greeted, bright red eyes taking on a new warmth as he looked upon the young boy before flicking to you, "Ch'acah."
You greeted him with a warm 'hello' just as Thatos scrambled to his feet and stumbled towards Thrawn, durasheet in hand. "Ticsi, look!" He cheered coming to a screeching halt just before he could crash into Thrawn and held out the durasheet in front of him for his father to take.
Carefully, as if handling the most precious art piece he'd ever seen, Thrawn took the sheet from his son's outstretched hand and with a raised eyebrow began to examine the scribbled calculations before him. Noticing the partially confused expression on Thrawn's face, you picked your way over to him. Slipping your hand down his arm, you gently tugged his datapad out of his hand and replaced it with yours that was still displaying the information on your home system. Thrawn's head turned to you in a grateful if not distracted nod as you placed a chaste kiss to his uniformed shoulder and raised up his datapad to examine its contents for yourself.
Unsurprisingly, it was a simple report regarding the goings on of the ship. Nothing particularly interesting - one of the lifts had malfunctioned today causing a couple of troopers to be stuck for a minute or so but that was it. As you scrolled down, reading further, you let your cheek rest against Thrawn's shoulder while he hummed at his son's work.
"I'm impressed," Thrawn suddenly spoke up, causing both your head and Thatos's to lift, "well done, k'et." His tone was warm, radiating with a fatherly pride that fit almost too well in the robust timbre of his steady voice. "Am I correct in assuming this is what you've been working on all day?" Thrawn kept his unfaltering gaze on his boy as he held the durasheet back out to him, giving it the same little shake you had to ensure he knew.
With an excited nod, Thatos snatched the sheet from his father and brought it up to his face to rove his eyes over his equations again.
Latching your hand around Thrawn's forearm, you held onto his arm in a small hug - head finding a resting place on his shoulder again. "Yep, although he did work on his history for a while too."
“Good, good,” Thrawn hummed, attention still trained on his son who was now gathering up his supplies to move them out of the way of the door, "did you work on any of the arts?"
"Poetry, today, but not for very long." You lowered your voice, raising onto your tiptoes to whisper into Thrawn's ear, "He's having trouble focusing today - I didn't want to push him too hard."
“Ah,” he hummed back once more, “I see.” Nodding at you, he turned his attention to Thatos’s retreating form as the young boy vanished into his room for a minute. “I think it would be wise to encourage leisure time.”
“Technically,” you started, smiling up at him in an impish way, “he’s been having leisure time all day. He just spent it working on his calculations.” Thrawn side-eyed you, a thoroughly unamused expression in his face. You thumped his side. “Don’t glower at me, you know damn well you spend your leisure time pouring over art instead of relaxing.”
Thrawn huffed derisively. “I happen to find my studies relaxing.”
Squeezing his hand tighter, you leaned into his side to place emphasis on the similarities you were highlighting. “Just as he finds his maths.” Unable to offer a suitable retort, Thrawn fell silent and offered a conceding nod.
"How did the meeting go?" You spoke into Thrawn's quiet.
"Very well." He hummed, turning to you, "the nightsisters have made contact with one of their own back home."
At that, you felt your mouth slacken. "How is that possible? We're in a separate galaxy."
"I am not sure, my love, they would not divulge that information to me." Thrawn's eyes narrowed imperceptibly. Clearly, their secrecy bothered him. "Regardless, I did not feel it appropriate to pry, as you would say. Doing so now might make them...less willing to help us."
"Reasonable. Still, I would like to find that out at some point." You huffed. "Do you think we'll be able to go home?"
Thrawn didn't answer for a long stretch of time and you found yourself partially wishing you hadn't said anything at all. But, you justified your curiosity. You'd been by Thrawn's side for many years now, hells, you had a kid with him - it was only right that he would share his honest thoughts with you. And if he honestly thought that the two of you would have to continue to raise your boy completely separate from either of your cultures, you would prefer he not give you any false hope.
"I am not sure, ch'acah. The nightsisters are powerful enough but I doubt they have the means to send us home." Thrawn kept his voice quiet, presumably to keep Thatos from overhearing. The child knew that he was being raised in exile. Neither of you had bothered to hide that from him because you saw no point in doing so. And you both tried to make him feel connected to the cultures he came from. But it was so hard to make sure he knew about the rich life waiting for him in the other galaxy without accidentally making him mourn a life he never had.
"I understand, my love." You sighed. Even though you had expected him to say something like that, it still stung to hear his doubt.
"But," he began suddenly, "I would not give up hope yet. The universe is unpredictable and perhaps the nightsisters have means I do not know about."
"For the sake of all of us, I hope they do." You leaned closer to him, placing most of your weight in his hold.
"As do I." He whispered, pulling you to him. For a moment you stood in solemn silence, a heavy weight of acceptance and fortitude settling onto your shoulders once more.
Your son would see his home, whether or not you got to see it with him.

Kaya Hagane
Well, I managed to redesign her and rename her because I dont want her name to sound similar to a canon kny character, also, I was very unhappy with her design looking back
aliases:
Kaya(Name she usually goes by)
Etukapke(Childhood name)
Kaya Hagane(Name under the corps)
age: 19
sexual orientation: pansexual
date of birth: January 6
rank: hashira
ethnicity: ainu
background(this might be ass but Im gonna include it): Kaya was apart of a small Ainu tribe known as the Hagane tribe by outsiders and was the daughter of the chief. She used to live an average life as a hunter until things took a different turn when the Hagane Massacre happened where two lower moons by the names of Kazuya and Toraji killed almost the entirety of her tribe, that included her father, her twin brother, and her younger sister. As soon she and her younger brother Iroh found out about the damage, they fled their tribe but a day later, the former metal Hashira, Hanzo Shakudo, found them and took the two children under his wing. For 4 years, Kaya and Iroh were disciplined under his mentorship and as soon as they were well-trained enough, he decided to register them to the Demon Slayer Corps. By the time they were already registered, both her and her brother even had to take a surname so that way no one gets confused. When Kaya was 18, she had pressured herself to finally defeat Kazuya and became the Metal hashira. (again, sorry if her lore is horrible but I tried to give it my best shot)
voice claim: Nikaido(Dorohedoro); Japanese dub
Kirumi Tojo(Danganronpa Killing Harmony); English dub

In Your Loving Arms
Synopsis: After 6 months in Avernus Wyll and Nemeia are pleased to be amongst friends. But they’re even happier to have a few moments alone with each other.
Wyll x Tav OC (Nemeia)
Content: female reader, smut, penetrative sex, rough(ish) but in a loving way (demon backshots 🥵), there’s some fluff too
Word Count: 2061
Edit 4/24/2024: Just realized Tumblr cut out the first paragraph 🙄😑 so just adding that back in.
MDNI
The cool night air felt great on Nemeia’s skin especially after the past 6 months in Avernus. Seeing everyone again has been a treasure. Making her rounds almost made her weep seeing how happy they were. And then expressing their delight to see her as well did cause a few tears to leak from her eyes. But everyone was kind about it, except Astarion who teased her a bit but Nemeia had a suspicion he felt the same judging by the slight glassiness in his own red eyes.
After speaking with everyone she decided to leave the celebration for a bit and sit on the dock and watch the moon and stars for a bit. Sitting there Nemeia thought of their adventures and couldn’t help but smile and the lifetime friends she has made.
“My love? Are you alright?”
Looking over her shoulder she beams at the man who has her heart. Wyll Ravengard a man straight from a fairytale, danced and swaggered his way into her life. But was so incredibly kind and compassionate that they mirrored the other. According to their troupe they knew it was only a matter of time before they fell in love with each other. And that they did, happily.
Gazing at him further she sees that he’s removed his armor and decided to be in something a bit more comfortable. Great minds think alike she surmises because she did the same after greeting everyone. Wyll was looking at her with affection and a hint of worry. Giving him a reassured smile she then turns her head back to the sky.
“I’m alright, beloved. I wanted to savor the night breeze and watch the stars for a while.”
Hearing his steps approach her Nemeia looks up into his face when he is at her side.
“Do you mind any company?”
A smile reappears on her face as she moves a bit over and pats the space next to her.
“Your company is always welcome, beloved.”
Wyll takes a seat next to her and brings her closer to his side by cupping her waist and sliding her over. Dropping his hand to her hip he uses the other to offer her his goblet of wine. She accepts it and takes two gulps from it before handing it back. Wyll drains the rest of the cup and places it on a rock. They sit in a comfortable silence for a bit admiring the night sky.
“It’s beautiful tonight, isn’t it Wyll?”
“It is. Though it doesn’t compare to you, love.”
A faint flush makes its way to her cheeks and Wyll can’t help but kiss it. A small giggle makes its way from Nemeia’s lips as she lets him. Placing the hand not currently on her hip to her cheek he begins to kiss her lips. Small pecks at first but he deepens them. They are now heated and greedy, his hand that was on her hip now snakes its way to the small of her back to bring her closer. Nemeia’s breasts are now pressed to his chest as she is now sitting on his lap and can’t help but whimper into his mouth. Wyll groans as he disconnects their lips as he makes his own travel lower to her neck and begins to kiss and lave his tongue over her throat.
A moan leaves the tiefling lips and Wyll tightens his arms in response around her. The former warlock lays the both of them down on the dock and begins to kiss down her chest.
“I’ve missed you Nemeia. Fighting through Avernus with you and Karlach has been fun and I wouldn’t change it but I’ve missed feeling your skin on mine. It’s been so long since we’ve been together like this. And I-I’m desperate for you.”
His voice sends shivers up Nemeia’s spine. It has been a while since they’ve been intimate. Avernus isn’t the place for such intimacy where devils and demons are on the prowl constantly. And she can’t deny that she has also been desperate for him too. It was their wedding night a tenday before the final battle with the Netherbrain when they were last with each other, if her memory serves right.
“I’m needy for you too, beloved. We should find a spot for some privacy. I remember a clea-mph!”
Wyll cuts her off with a passionate kiss. “No, I can’t wait. I need you. Now.”
Looking into his eyes Nemeia sees the wild and lust filled look he’s pinning her with. A small giggle leaves her lips as she does a small turn under him.
“Okay, okay Wyll. Give me a few moments. Hopefully I can do this right.” A light forms in her hand and she waves it in a circle around them. A shimmering wall of Weave is around them. Satisfied with her work Nemeia extinguishes the light in her hand and lays back down. Wyll gives her a curious look and she can only shrug.
“I had Gale teach me a few spells on our adventure to have in my back pocket, so to speak.”
Giving her a smirk, Wyll dives to her neck and starts to kiss and leave love bites onto her throat.
“What a good wife you are. Let me show you my appreciation.”
Wyll then drags down Nemeia’s pants as well as her underwear; he ran his hands over her legs slowly, letting his fingertips drag across the skin. “It has been so difficult watching you. Seeing you covered in sweat after a fight with a bone devil... Watching you traverse the hells with these strong legs. Don’t think I haven’t noticed how thick from muscle they’ve gotten.” He raised one leg up. He pressed kisses to the ankle, slowly trailing them up the calf, laving his tongue over the skin. Wyll gently bites the side of her calf and relishes in the yelp his love lets out.
His other hand makes its way to her folds and is delighted to feel her readiness for him.
“My sweet wife, you’re soaked and ready for me.” He cooes out while circling his thumb over her clit.
Nemeia squirms in need of the attention to her body Wyll is giving her.
“Wyll! Please, don’t tease.” The pout on her face is too cute to deny her.
“Of course, dear wife, I’ll always give you what you need. Would you mind turning over for me?”
Nemeia scrambles to turn over onto her knees while kicking off her pants and underwear. Looking over her shoulder she sees Wyll unlacing his trousers. If she were to look close enough she would see his hands trembling in anticipation.
Finally freeing himself, Wyll hisses at the cool breeze on his ridged and turgid length. Looking at his love he sees the dilation of her eyes to almost black orbs that conveys the lust and love she’s feeling. Spreading her cheeks he gazes at her womanly core and can’t help but place a kiss right on her folds.
Nemeia lets out a shriek and then a moan at Wyll’s lips on her. “Wyll, please! I can’t-hngh!” She is interrupted by Wyll bottoming out in one thrust into her warm channel. He lets out a loud groan at the feeling of finally being one with his wife again. For a few moments there is nothing but groans, pants, and moans while Wyll keeps himself still not wanting to end their intimacy yet.
Desperate to feel any kind of friction, Nemeia begins to grind herself back on his length. A loud hiss escapes Wyll’s clenched teeth. He gives her a swift swat on her ass and stops her from moving.
“Don’t do that, love. I’m only hanging on by a thread and I don’t want this to end yet.”
A desperate whine sounds from Nemeia's throat as she tries to undulate her hips again but finds his grip on her hips is unwavering. “I don’t care! Use me however you like. Be rough, I just want to feel you!”
His length throbs at her admission and Wyll exhales deeply from his nose. “Godsdammit! I can never refuse you. Brace yourself love.”
Nemeia has only enough time to dig her nails into the wood below her before Wyll starts to piston into her. The scream of relief and satisfaction is music to the man’s ears. Wyll drills into her with enough force to shake her whole body.
Nemeia moans and screams into the air, grateful that the spell taught to her negates sounds and vision to those outside it. The way Wyll is manhandling her on his length like a ragdoll is mind numbingly blissful. “Wyll please! Harder!” She sings out to him.
“Fuck! What a good wife you are so open and pliable for me. Taking me like you were made just for me.” He ups the force of his thrusts and continues to mindlessly slam into her over and over like he was trying to cast out spirits wanting to possess her. Only he can do that.
Wyll reaches down to encircle her waist, holding her up with just one arm. And with his free hand he rubs at her clit. Always ensuring to place Nemeia’s pleasure over anything. No matter how lost in pleasure he is. Wyll is so deep that if Nemeia didn't know any better she would assume he was reaching all the way up into her stomach. The slight pain of him slamming into the barrier of her womb overwhelms her senses and heightens the pleasure along with the feeling of him pinching and rolling her clit. Nemeia doubted that she’d get through this encounter unscathed; bruises and aching were guaranteed but she could care less if she was honest. While unlikely either of the lovers were making it there after this, Nemeia could see the gates of Celestia every time he plunged into her now.
Wyll spread her legs wider and angled his thrusts and used his ridged length to his advantage to hit that spongy spot every time his hips connected with her ass. No sound in all Faerûn was loud enough to drown out the couple's noises. Though a fleeting thought had passed through Nemeia’s mind to test the barrier around them, all thoughts ceased when an orgasm washed over her when the coil in her stomach finally snapped.
Nemeia came all over his length, leaving a thick white ring around the base of it that he couldn't, for the life of him, keep his eyes off of every time he slid himself in and out again. With a loud moan Wyll pressed into Nemeia as deep as her body would allow him and came hard shooting ropes of his seed into her.
He grinds himself until the ringing in his ear stops and then collapses on top of her. Luckily Nemeia has enough brain power to conjure a mattress for them to lay on. Wyll chuckles and gives a kiss to the back of her neck in thanks. After a few minutes regaining their breath, Wyll disengages from her and much of his seed begins to spill out, dripping all over both of her thighs. Gazing at the erotic sight before him, Wyll spreads her again and begins to clean her up with his tongue. Overstimulation shoots across Nemeia’s body and whimpers and moans escape her lips while she can only lay there having no energy to move away from his attentions.
With one final moan Wyll finishes his clean up over her core and turns his love around and begins to kiss her. Maybe if Nemeia were in a sobered state she’d feel a little embarrassed tasting herself (and him) on his lips but she’s too blissed out to even entertain the thought. Breaking away, Wyll lays down on the mattress and brings her closer to him. “Did you enjoy yourself, love? Do you ache anywhere?”
A small giggle makes its way from Nemeia and caresses his cheek. “I’m feeling happily mindless, beloved. And the ache I feel is of the good kind. Though I wouldn’t say ‘no’ to another round if you’d be up for it.”
Wyll’s length throbs in interest and he gives a groan of acceptance. “Give me a few minutes, love and I’ll be ready for you. This time we can go to that clearing you mentioned.”

Jas (Jasmi Dagoth), a chimer born of the secret love between Indoril Nerevar and Voryn Dagoth, raised in the heat of Red Mountain and driven by a need to avenge her parents and her fallen House.
read the rest of her biography below!
Full name: Jasmi Dagoth
Date of birth: 14th of Rain's Hand, 1E 685 (April 14th)
Age: N/A (in human years she would be in her mid 30s)
Height: 6'0 (182cm)
Hair: Blonde/platinum blonde, reaches lower back, wavy and bushy, is usually kept loose even in battle
Eye colour: Salmon
Gender: Female
Pronouns: She/her, He/him in some situations (in stories, songs, rumors, fables etc.)
Orientation: Lesbian
Titles: Lord, Queen/King, Master (following the Dagoth custom of titles not being gendered)
Armour colours: Gold and deep red
Other: She has dimples, she's right-handed, she speaks from her chest with a loud and commanding tone, she wears masculine clothing, she rides her personal bull kagouti rather than a guar, she uses a one-handed ebony axe and a one-handed daedric sword
--
Jas was still a child when her parents died at Red Mountain. Her parents kept her secret for obvious reasons, and the Tribunal had no knowledge of her existence. Before the final battle started, Voryn made sure that Jas would be safe at Kogoruhn with her aunts and uncles. Voryn's last thought before the power of the Tools consumed them was directed at Azura, imploring her to watch over their daughter. Voryn didn't live to see if Azura heard their plea, but perhaps Jas' still-golden skin is proof enough that Azura had granted her parent's dying wish. Or maybe it's merely proof that she's Nerevar's heir.
Jas spent her adolescence surviving post-war alongside Voryn's siblings (who have always guided and protected her), and training to be a warrior, and a queen. At first, she wanted nothing more than to see the Tribunal suffer for their crimes, but with age she realised that a violent approach would only help her lose the favour of the dunmer people, and that what she needs to do instead is to expose the Tribunal for what they really are, and for the crimes they had committed.
Jas is an extremely ambitious and headstrong womer, standing at 6 feet tall and donning heavy armour and an axe and sword in each hand. Her goals, while idealistic and seemingly impossible, are the only thing that's ever on her mind. She aims to both bring down the Tribunal and to restore House Dagoth to its former status. She also sees herself as the rightful heir of Morrowind and wants to take the throne for herself. She knows no rest, only planning and preparing for her next move. She doesn't tire easily.
To Jas, the ends justify the means. If intimidating, hurting, bribing and even killing a couple people brings her closer to achieving her goals, she's willing to sacrifice a few lives. However, she does have a strong sense of justice and aids civilians when her time allows, which also benefits her—making connections and gaining allies is never a waste of time. However, she is not above allowing herself to be manipulative and opportunistic at times.
Jas has no shame in her heritage and doesn't hide the fact she's a Dagoth. She proudly wears her family's sigil and clothing, and bitterly educates people on her House's history.
Jas has always looked up to Nerevar, her father, and she is almost a spitting image of him. Her skin is darker than his, and her eyes are fiery instead of silver, but her ideals and physical traits are similar to his. She is born under the sign of The Lord (in our world, she's an Aries sun/Leo moon/Sagittarius rising).
Nerevar taught Jas to fight (under Voryn's careful surveillance) ever since she was old enough to hold a weapon, but he never encouraged her to pursue the throne. While Nerevar despised his political line of work and didn't want his only child to follow in his footsteps, Jas has always dreamt big and has always had eyes on becoming a ruler one day.
Despite sharing her strong hatred for the Tribunal with Azura, Jas does not serve Azura and she does not approve of the nerevarine prophecy. She doesn't agree with her father's soul constantly being reincarnated into random strangers, some even younger than her, over and over again until one of them manages to do what she is already doing: bringing down the Tribunal and restoring her House. So, she takes her father's ring, and she keeps it safe with her. If the nerevarine wants it, they'll have to gain Jas' approval first.
As her kin started to hear Dagoth Ur's Song in the 2nd Era, they started becoming difficult to manage and to reason with. Thankfully, Jas met a woman in one of her travels, a Breton vampire named Lyric who impressed Jas with her abilities. Jas offered her a partnership: Lyric would have a safe home and cattle (the Sixth House cultists themselves) to feed on, as long as she uses her vampiric skills to keep the Sixth House members under control while Jas is away on "business", and as long as she doesn't kill any of them. Jas and Lyric also become romantic partners, and they form a strong bond.
After obtaining Lyric's loyalty, Jas also recruits a couple other people into her council: a half-dwemer, half-orsimer Scientist (she doesn't like the term "sorcerer") and her lover (a khajiiti guard girl), and Lyric's bosmer cousin who has a strange fascination with the Daedric Prince Hircine. Jas has use of all of them, and they all have something to gain from working for her (she pays very well, in both coin and knowledge).
Jas' feelings for the members of the Tribunal burn as hotly as Red Mountain itself. Though she had to be kept secret as a child, she still remembers watching Vivec visit Kogoruhn from her hiding spots. Nerevar told her many stories about Vivec, and how they were the closest thing he had to a family. When she faces Vivec again after her parents' death, Jas can't find it in her to hate them. Out of all members of the Tribunal, Vivec is the only one that Jas can find it in her heart to forgive. It's what her father would've wanted.
Her feelings towards Almalexia and Sotha Sil, however, aren't as forgiving.
Despite all of this, Jas can be very pleasant company. She's a mer who enioys life, socialising, and a good drink, and she maintains an optimistic attitude. While she's ambitious to an almost destructive level, she can also be understanding and non-judgmental, especially towards the opressed. She doesn't follow any Daedric Princes nor Divines, all she believes in is her own strength, and the loyalty of her closest allies.

Before Moon 0 (6/8)
Bouncerise instinctively felt a growl rumble up in her throat. She lowered herself into a battle stance, as the other cat merely rolled her eyes.
"Yes, it's nice to see you too, Bouncepaw."
"It's Bouncerise now!" Bouncerise replied after a heartbeat of confusion. Right, she remembered. Shortgrass never witnessed our warrior ceremonies. A strange thought. It made her feel old for a moment, she knew it had been forever since she'd seen the other she-cat, but her warrior ceremony still felt like it was just yesterday.
"Bouncerise? That's cute. Did Lionstar pick the name for you?" The mockery at the mention of her leader aggrevated Bouncerise further, but it also send a shiver down her spine, as she recalled the exact circumstances of her departure from the clan. Departure? No. Banishment.
"Tallspike! No, Tallspike!" Bouncepaw heard the disraught voice of her older sister, Whistlewind, die down to a devastated whimper as she cowered over the body of her mate. Bouncepaw let her head drop. All of this felt incredibly unfair: This was meant to be the happiest day of her life so far, the day she was made an apprentice. Having Lionstar's kind eyes lock with hers as she was given her name and apprenticed to Tallspike felt amazing, like she had finally earned a place among her clanmates. Soon, she would learn how to fight and hunt! Yes, one or the other chore was a given, but it was going to be worth it! She knew Tallspike was going to be a great mentor; Whistlewind assured her so, and her sister was rarely ever wrong about anything!
And it took only one cat to take it all from her again.
Bouncepaw and the other apprentices retreated to talk to their new mentors. Tallspike told her how happy he was that she was her new apprentice, but before she could tell him she felt the same way, an angry cry of objection disrupted the crowd that was about to depart to pursue the regular clan duties. All eyes turned to her: Shortgrass.
"This is it! You promised me an apprentice moons ago, Lionstar! I have been taking twice the workload of a normal warrior, even organizing patrols when your deputy didn't feel like it! Where is my reward?!"
Lionstar, who was still seated where he held the ceremony prior, seemed like he was about to reply, but Tallspike cut in, fed up with the way Shortgrass was acting, and had been acting for moons now. "You don't get to talk to the leader like that! And how dare you disrespect the deputy!"
"The fact that you of all cats got made a mentor before me is a joke! You couldn't hold your own against me!" Shortgrass was pressed low to the ground as she hissed at him, tail lashing furiously. Tallspike extended his claws. "Why don't you prove that before you open your big mouth!"
And it only took those words to seal his fate. The battle was fierce, but Shortgrass ultimately came out on top. Bouncepaw didn't know how long the battle lasted for, only that it felt like an eternity between hearing Tallspike's last howl and her sister's weeping. The rest of the clan was shocked, unable to move. Except for one of them.
"See? You might as well make me Bouncepaw's new mentor, Lionstar! I can certainly teach her more than him!" Did she grasp the impact of what she had just done? The sort of wounds she had caused him? The clan was horrified. What kind of cat would go this far to prove a point? To get back at another cat? To get an apprentice? By StarClan, they were clanmates, they slept in the same den, they laughed together, they shared prey... Bouncepaw felt sick.
It was the last day she ever saw Shortgrass. Of course Lionstar did not make her her new mentor, but banished her from their clan, with the notice that the next time they saw here thread these grounds, they would kill her on sight. And it seemed she wouldn't dare cross paths with her now former clanmates again.
Until now.
A rustling of the bushes behind her made Bouncerise flinch and Shortgrass twitch her ears. "Oh, you brought Oriolepaw too..."
"Oriolespeckle!" Bouncerise defended her clanmate. The tom in question did a double check upon seeing the black she-cat, a very baffled expression in his face, eyes huge. "Shortgrass?! What are you doing here?!"
"I should be asking you." Shortgrass stalked closer to the tom, "As far as I know this isn't clan territory. Or else, what was it... you were going to kill me?" The lightheartedness of her tone made Bouncerise sick to her stomach. "Is Lionstar extending the boundary or something?"
"What do you care?! That's none of your business!" Bouncerise yelled, tail lashing. Shortgrass' ears twitched, she really didn't seem to care. "Well, he's not enough of a mousebrain to send the two of you alone out for such a mission..." It looked liek she wanted to say something, but her gaze dropped below their eye level.
"You two look hungry. Come." With a waving of the tail, she ordered them to follow. After hesitating for a moment, Oriolespeckle began moving, before Bouncerise halted him with a low hiss. "Seriously?!" The tom hissed back in defense: "We haven't eaten since last night! Whatever she found it's all we're going to get until we reach those 'promised grounds' or whatever."
It was true, the path here was as barren as Bouncerise assumed their neighbouring clan's territory to be. Nonetheless she was cautious, since after all what reason did Shortgrass have for feeding them? She went after Oriolespeckle and met Shortgrass again, as she hauled out a rather skinny hare from underneath a pile of dirt.
As the three cats feasted, and the two young warriors stuffed their mouths with as much as they could, Shortgrass asked: "So... who became your mentor in my absence?" Bouncerise almost choked on the hare when she heard that. She felt the anger bubble up in her again, the more memories of Tallspike resurfaced, but she pulled herself together, since she did not want to give up the meal she was having right now. At the same time... was it smart to draw the ire of Shortgrass and pin it to someone else? Someone who, maybe, Shortgrass would then seek out? Bouncerise got a grip again, realizing she was thinking too far. If Shortgrass attempted anything she'd kill her right here and now. "... Bluebellheart."
"Bluebellheart!" Shortgrass parroted with clear ridicule. "Well I hope for you that some other cat stepped in, because if she taught you how to fight, then you're gonna be as good of a fighter as a squirrel!" Shortgrass then took another bite from the hare. Bouncerise felt how hard it was to contain her anger, especially when Oriolespeckle laid his tail on her back, not exactly reassuringly, but afraid she would soon combust with rage. There's no point in killing her, she told herself. You'd be just as bad as her.
"And what about Reedstalk? There's no way that old foxheart is still alive anymore, who took his place?"
"Snakefur." Oriolespeckle replied almost immediately, causing Shortgrass to now be the one to almost choke on her meal, though not from shock, but from amusement, as she was purring with meat between her teeth.
"Snakefur... oh, that's a good one..." she forced out between purrs and coughs. Once she got a hold of her voice again, she continued. "If he becomes leader your clan is more doomed than before... Is that the reason why the two of you are out here?" She got up and mustered the two with her cunning eyes. "It wouldn't surprise me, is all."
Bouncerise finished up and got up too, to look Shortgrass directly into the eyes. "What our business is out here is ours, not yours!" she yelled, gaining merely a simple change to a bored expression from Shortgrass, before the black she-cat rebutted in her usual manner. "Is that any way to treat someone who just gave you food? You're not scared of me, are you?"
Bouncerise flinched and bristled her fur up further, gaining another amused purr from Shortgrass. Whilst Oriolespeckle got up too and joined Bouncerise's side, Shortgrass began pacing around, monologuing, even going as far as turning her back to the two.
"You know, Bouncerise is such a silly name for you. If I was the leader I would've named you something like Bouncestrike, or Bounceclaw. You've showed potential as far back as the day you took your first steps." She turned around, looking the other she-cat straight in the eyes. "You still do."
Bouncerise didn't move, still ducked to the ground in a battle stance. But she did begin shaking. Why is she saying this? What's her plan? Does she actually... mean all of this?
"Fearing me would be foolish. After all, you could always call Lionstar to send a patrol out after me, couldn't you?" Shortgrass questioned, making Bouncerise shift around even more uncomfortably. Her tone... It was almost like she knew they weren't going back to their clan...
Then, she backed off again, purring in an unusually kind tone. "But if that's not the case, you two could use any helping paw you can find. Just saying..." No, it wasn't a kind tone. There was something so off about it...
A hit to her flank almost made her lose balance. It was Oriolespeckle, who had pushed her slightly. "Come on, let's get lost!" He said, before he let out a half-hearted "Thanks for the hare." into Shortgrass' direction.
Bouncerise followed him into the thicket as fast as she could break out of her position. Shortgrass stared after them for a while, toward the bushes they fled into. Not before long, she would be on her paws too, becoming a shadow in the woods, stalking them...

Tsukihime Remake Liveblog Archive, Part 1: Arcueid Route
Last year when Arcueid's route of the Tsukihime remake got translated, and then again this year when Ciel's route got translated, I liveblogged on Discord as I read. But Discord is not the ideal platform for long-term archival accessibility. So I'm going to dump the archives on tumblr, instead.
Below the cut: the Arcueid-route segment of the liveblog, featuring spoilers for all of the original Tsukihime and for Arcueid's route of Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-.
July 16, 2022
[6:16 PM] First off: the Tsukihime remake is really pretty, like, wow. I've played high-budget VNs from two decades ago, and I've played low-budget VNs from relatively recently, but this is my first time getting more than maybe 30 minutes into a high-budget VN from relatively recently, and things sure have advanced.
[6:22 PM] All the individual backgrounds are Very Pretty, and there are a lot of them, and there are a lot of CGs, and everything is very blended-together compared with what I'm used to. Like... I'm accustomed to VNs following a format of "there's normal sprites-on-backgrounds art, and there are CGs, and the latter are a conspicuous jump up in fanciness relative to the former. The Tsukihime remake, as of the end of the first day, is Not Doing That. It's throwing CGs out at such high density and with such a high level of background-art-prettiness that they end up feeling like just an ordinary part of the flow.
[6:24 PM] (The other recent high-budget VN I played the first ~30 minutes of, which I intend to return to at some point, is World End Syndrome, and it goes an extra step beyond even that, with animated backgrounds. Thus I infer that the jump in fanciness is a general Recent High-Budget VNs thing rather than something specific to the Tsukihime remake.)
[6:29 PM] And, like... so, the standard model followed by older VNs and lower-budget recent ones has a more-or-less static camera: here's the background, here are the sprites, when we're in this area and not in a CG there's not going to be much variety in the visual layout. But, here, it's constantly zooming and panning around. To the point where it very much comes across as the camera following Shiki's gaze, rather than just representing The Area in the abstract? Which is really cool. (And also speaks to the resolution at which the art assets were drawn, that it can get away with zooming in on them constantly without substantial blurriness resulting. And the detail with which they were drawn, that it can zoom in on them and have them still be interesting to look at.)
[6:36 PM] ...also, it's interesting how fashionable "start VN on a train" seems to be, lately. Heart of the Woods did it, World End Syndrome did it, the Tsukihime remake did it... I guess because trains are a popular way of getting from place to place and it's common for VNs to start with the protagonists going somewhere new? But nonetheless it feels like it's happening disproportionately, relative to other transit methods / "the transit happened offscreen before things started" / not starting with going to a new place at all / etc. Which is interesting. I wonder if there's something about the visual design of trains which makes them particularly popular among VN artists, or something.
[6:39 PM] Also, the remake sure does start hinting at the suspiciousness of Shiki's seven-years-ago-accident a whole lot sooner than the original did, wow. In the original, sure, it eventually becomes clear that there's something more going on with it than just the nominal car accident, but that only starts being hinted at a ways into the plot. But, here, we get the scene in the prologue of Shiki being told he was in a car accident, and then we jump seven years forward into the main story, and Shiki pretty quickly starts narrating about how seven years ago he almost died in an accident involving a building. (I don't have a copy of the VN script on hand, so I forget if it was a falling building or a construction-site accident or what, but it was something vaguely along those lines.) Very conspicuously inconsistent; far more suspicious far more quickly. It's interesting.
[6:40 PM] ...I should look into the logistics of opening up NSP files to see if I can do script-extraction from the translation patch; my searchable copy of the Fate/stay night script is very convenient, and I expect I'm going to end up wanting something similar here.
[6:42 PM] Anyway! Day 1 complete; it was delightful; I was very impressed with it; I look forward to continuing.
[6:43 PM] ...oh, wait, right, let's also have the bit about Lessons To Learn About VN Engine-Design, because that's a thing I like to do when I get into new VNs with particularly nice features. In this case, one positive lesson and one negative lesson.
[6:45 PM] The positive lesson is: the Tsukihime remake includes a flowchart of its choices and resulting scenes ingame (constrained to those scenes one has seen so far, for non-spoileriness), such that there's no need to memorize all the branches or keep extensive notes or suchlike. This is a very good idea, and I should make sure to include support for it whenever I get around to designing a VN engine of my own.
[6:50 PM] The negative lesson is: if you're going to give your VN individual voice sliders for each character with voiced lines (which is, itself, a good idea of which I approve), and you're going to hide the sliders for characters who haven't spoken yet in order to avoid spoilers, don't then go and initialize all newly-unhidden sliders at the default voice-line volume irrespective of what the user has set the visible sliders to. The Tsukihime remake even has a slider for "Other", as in all the bit characters who don't get sliders of their own; it would have been so technically simple and so much more convenient if they'd set things up so that, whenever a new character who does get their own slider appears, that slider were just set to the level of the Other slider, instead of initialized to the default 50% such that I had to keep going into the menu to adjust the new sliders upward for parity with all the old sliders. (Which I'd been systematically setting to 80% in order to have them not be drowned out by the background music.)
July 17, 2022
[9:33 AM] ...oh, also, off in the realm of thematic stuff, there was this interesting understated / not-very-emphasized moment I appreciated, when Shiki first made it to the Tohno mansion gates. Up to that point, we'd been getting all this internal monologuing about how the Tohno family was a sort of living anachronism, an artifact of a past era in whose territory modernity struggled to take hold. And yet, at the gates, things had modernized a bit, relative to what Shiki remembered from his childhood. The gate which once relied on a live guard had been replaced with an entirely-remote "ring the buzzer and wait for the gate to be electronically unlocked" system. Even the Tohno mansion, central territory of the Tohno family, wasn't entirely untouched by the changing of the times. And I found that cool. I wonder if this is going to end up being a more in-focus thematic thread later on, or whether it's going to be consistently left as understated subtext like this instance was.
[9:48 PM] It's somewhat surprising to me how much extra impact some of the scenes are having, even given very similar textual content, just on the basis of the visual enhancements and the increased variety of music.
[9:51 PM] In particular, this afternoon I hit the "Shiki finds Arcueid waiting for him by his school" scene (which is to say, Arcueid's second scene in the story), and wow that scene hit me hard given the extra benefit of the new CGs and music. Like, in the original, I found Arcueid's initial appearance in that sequence less impactful than the subsequent chase and conversation in the alleyway, but here, her initial appearance itself felt like a Big High-Impact Moment in its own right.
[9:52 PM] (...and then, near the end of the scene, I got a BSOD, because yuzu, whatever its virtues as a generally-impressive emulator, apparently doesn't know how to avoid leaking so much memory that it ends up crashing windows given a few hours of runtime. That part was less ideal. But not enough to undermine the scene's impact.)
[9:53 PM] Also, Arcueid's theme is just generally really good. Very plausibly my favorite bit of music to appear in the VN thus far.
July 18, 2022
[3:35 PM] Just got my first bad end! #3. It had a very cool little gimmicky moment to it, with a fake choice point: Shiki goes into decision-making mode, the choice-selection text comes up, but then, before there's any time to choose them, Shiki gets whacked in the back of the head and the Bad End progresses. Very much the sort of maneuver which... would lose impact quickly if overused? But which, as a one-off thing, makes for a very nice surprise double-subversion of the Bad End. Make a choice which seems like an obvious bad-end choice, then unexpectedly get a choice-point (thus suggesting that it's perhaps not inherently a Bad End path, since those have choice-points less often than non-Bad-End paths do), only to have the choice-point then immediately taken away and the Bad End proceed along a more unambiguous path of Badness.
[10:32 PM] Made it to the end of the fifth day. That fight with Vlov was really dramatically larger-scale than anything from the original, wow. Feels like something of a Dramatic Tone-Change; I'll be interested to see how that's handled going forward, whether the remake continues to lean more into Bombastic Large-Scale Action of that sort or whether this is going to be more of a one-off turning point after which things will return to the more familiar and personal-scale approach of the original but now with extra church attention and a big crater in the middle of town.
[10:34 PM] (Or, well, the remake near-side routes, at least. Given the nature of the far-side routes, I'm at least moderately inclined to expect that they still won't be heavy on Bombastic Large-Scale Action, whenever they get released, irrespective of whether or not the near-side routes end up being thusly focused; the smaller-scale personal focus is kind of a central tonal element of the far-side routes in the original, I think.)
[10:37 PM] (Although, like, [rot13 for Fate/stay night spoilers]Urnira'f Srry orvat Sngr'f sne-fvqr-ebhgr-rdhvinyrag qvqa'g fgbc vg sebz orvat gur ynetrfg-fpnyr bs gurz nyy, npgvba-jvfr[/rot13]. So I'm not all that strongly confident in this analysis.)
July 20, 2022
[4:45 PM] An interesting side effect of Nrvnqsr's replacement with Vlov is that it's pretty substantially changed my impressions of Shiki's "we killed the vampire, everything's solved now!" misunderstanding post-big-fight and of Arcueid's reaction thereto. Because, in the original, Arcueid explains that she's in town to hunt down the vampire serial killer, and then Nrvnqsr shows up, but he's very clearly chasing her, and never shows any sign of having interests in town beyond that. (Plus, you know, doesn't leave any corpses behind after murdering people.) Whereas Vlov is relatively infrastructurally established in town, having built up a bunch of Dead, had his scheme in place for long enough that Arihiko has already heard of it by the time of the first day, et cetera. So, sure, Vlov himself can't have done the described "exsanguinated corpses without other distinguishing traits" murders on account of the burning-people problem, but there's a very natural interpretation wherein the deaths attributed to the serial killer are a product of Vlov's Dead, who lack the same burning-people-around-them curse. (Indeed, I strongly suspect that I myself would have fallen into this interpretation, had I not already read through the original.
[4:45 PM] ...and, as a result of this, even though the text of Shiki's misunderstanding and of Arcueid's reaction thereto is largely the same, the change in context makes it read very differently? In the original, it feels like dramatic irony, Shiki failing to put the pieces in front of him together and thus thinking the plot is resolved even though it isn't yet. Here, though, it feels much more like Shiki reasoning sensibly from the information he's been given, with the result that the misundersatnding ends up feeling far more like a consequence of Arcueid failing to communicate clearly, rather than of Shiki failing to make available inferences.
July 23, 2022
[4:21 PM] Interesting! So apparently, in the remake version of Arcueid's route, Ciel just straight-up got taken off the case after the Vlov fight, with her role in the plot of the original version of the route being filled instead by the various new Church-affiliated figures added in the remake. I won't be able to get to Ciel's route for a while, yet, given its not being translated thus far, but this sure does seem like it'll make her and Arcueid's routes diverge a whole lot more immediately, relative to the awkward coupled-until-a-largeish-chunk-of-the-way-in manner in which the two are structured in the original.
[4:22 PM] (Ciel's route was one of my favorites, in the original, so I'm very much looking forward to the remake-version.)
[4:36 PM] Also: I was really not expecting for the "Shiki finds Arcueid in the alleyway after she almost sucks his blood at the park" scene in the remake to be as similar to the original as it was. Like, sure, things in the original are more explicit / go farther, and the remake-version is somewhat better-written even on axes aside from the "Nasu can't write sex scenes and in the remake he doesn't try" one—there's some sense of thematic parallel between Arcueid and Shiki's respective sequential bouts of Sudden Very-Hard-To-Resist Urge Towards Violence in one another's directions here, for instance, which was nonpresent in the original (at least to the best of my ability to notice) and which I found to make the Shiki-attacks-Arcueid half of the sequence land a whole lot better—but... I was expecting a somewhat-substantial replacement along the lines of e.g. the Fate/stay night Realta Nua sex-scene-replacements, and this was Not That.
[4:47 PM] (I suppose in retrospect I should have seen this coming; after all, the sexual overtones of the initial "Shiki stalks and murders Arcueid" sequence all the way back at the beginning weren't cut out either. But I failed to update properly on that, and thus this still came as something of a surprise. But now I'm updating. I continue to expect that there won't be actual onscreen sex scenes, but I'm no longer expecting them to necessarily be entirely cut out / replaced, as opposed to just sort of made less explicit while otherwise being retained.)
[4:54 PM] (Although the succubus subplot was entirely cut out, so it's not as simple as "everything is going to be kept in approximately-original shape", either.)
[10:04 PM] Day 11 complete! It was Very Good. It's been long enough since I've read the original that I don't remember exactly how it compares with the equivalent part there impact-wise, but I'm very impressed with this version, regardless. Lots of excellent romantic development between Shiki and Arcueid. Plus Ciel making a surprise reappearance, which simultaneously was a moving and impactful scene and also was kind of funny in how much Shiki just sort of Did Not Question this sempai from his school knowing everything about his recent adventures plus a whole bunch about Arcueid's backstory. Very good scene. Very good day. Probably my favorite chunk of the remake thus far.
July 24, 2022
[2:27 PM] Moon Princess ending reached! And thus Arcueid route complete. Just the true ending; insofar as the good ending exists in the remake as it did in the original, there was no mention of said existence in the post-ending Teach Me, Ciel-Sensei! session, and there are only three rather than four ending cards in the endings gallery, so I'm guessing that's it. Which... feels right, to me. The Arcueid true/good ending split never made much sense to me, in the original.
[2:27 PM] I have yet to go back and get all the bad ends I missed and otherwise Do Branch-Exploration; I'm going to do that later this afternoon. But, in the meantime, overall impressions of the route based on this single pass through it:
[2:44 PM] It was good! I liked it a lot. It was not, on the whole, as good as the original was at being the thing the original was, I think. There were individual scenes where it managed to outpace the original, definitely; where the new renditions of the scenes felt like the original thing, but better-crafted / more what-it-was-trying-to-be. As well as some newly-added scenes which felt like they successfully enhanced the tone of the original, like the "Ciel tells Shiki about Arcueid's past next to the crater left by the fight with Vlov" scene. But there were also various scenes and story-elements which felt like they were doing other things, things that the original wasn't doing, and which, through dilution, were sufficient to end up making the route feel somewhat less concentratedly the-thing-the-original-version-was on net. The presence of guests in the Tohno mansion, which reduced the sense of isolation which characterized the place in the original; the Vlov fight, which was a lot more Large-Scale Bombastic Action-shaped than anything from the original; Ciel's replacement with Noel and Mario during the middle parts of the plot, which dampened the impact of her disappearance and subsequent reappearance towards the end; Ciel's interlude just before the final fight with Roa, which was relatively straightforwardly action-y and lacked the sense of Desperate Pursuit Of A Probably-Doomed Happy Ending that the rest of that sequence had; et cetera.
[2:45 PM] ...but, at the same time, while it may not have been as good as the original at being the thing the original was, it still did a very good job of being itself?
[2:47 PM] Overall, then: I enjoyed it, I am very much looking forward to the translation of the next route (and to the release of the subsequent routes), and, while it remains to be seen how I'll ultimately rate it relative to the original (having now confirmed that that rating won't be "superior in every way, does everything the original did but better"), I'm very much expecting to find it good and worthwhile and worth revisiting in the future for its own sake.
[2:50 PM] ...and I am absolutely expecting at least some scenes' Prototypical Images In My Head to be overwritten with the remake-versions. As well as some backstory-explanations. (The remake's exposition-sequences often felt somewhat clearer, in a fashion that I'm not sure whether to attribute to differences in writing or to differences in translation.) So I guess my default imagination of Tsukihime, from here on out, is going to be a sort of weird patchwork of original and remake, rather than purely one or the other; that'll be interesting.
[11:02 PM] Branch-exploration complete! Exactly one unexplored branch remains, on the flowchart (which is a thing that's accessible from the ingame menu, it's so good, I applaud whoever came up with that as an innovation over the "fans need to assemble and pass around our own flowcharts" meta of prior Type-Moon VNs), and that branch is untranslated. So I guess that's it for now! Nothing more remains, pending translation of the next route.
[11:19 PM] A few branches which stuck out to me which I happened to not hit on the first pass: - There are multiple layers of Bonus Dead Apostle Exposition that one can choose between and can't see all of in a single pass through the VN! I managed to miss both of them, the first time through, but even if I hadn't, I'd have been stuck with just one or the other rather than both. Mean. (Although... plausibly warranted from the standpoint of "they add up to solid hour-ish of non-plot-central infodumping", admittedly. The prior mandatory Dead Apostle exposition-round was a bit much even just by itself, so I can understand spacing out the bonus rounds to take place on multiple successive passes, even if in this case I ended up doing them both in sequence anyway.) - The "Shiki goes out to see Arcueid while still weak from his encounter with the clearing behind the Tohno mansion that morning, and ends up falling apart over the subsequent day" dead-end branch was interestingly different and weird, in this version of things. Instead of getting picked up at school by Kohaku only for her to suddenly be gone and Roa to be there and kill him, he gets driven home, runs into Kohaku-in-disguise-as-Hisui at the mansion entrance while his internal monologue grows progressively more deranged, taken into an off-limts hallway of the mansion, and then she's suddenly gone, with his internal monologue and the presence of a Bad End at that point indicating that something kills him off but with no indication as to what? It was interesting in the degree of utter unclarity there was regarding what happened, even moreso than in the original version. Something Kohaku-related, presumably, but I have no solid hypotheses regarding details. - Where the "let's go to that one alleyway in town!" date-branch in the original was a Clear Wrong Choice, here, it starts out seeming like a Wrong Choice but actually ends up somehow being probably the best of the three date-branches? Both on the "Shiki and Arcueid both have a fun time with it" level and on the "contains Interesting Side-Character Stuff" level. It's the only branch in the entirety of Arcueid's route where we get to learn anything about the one purple-haired girl who keeps on showing up in minor roles throughout the early parts of the route and who's almost certainly going to be important in some other route! And apparently her name is Saiki Mio. As in the same family name as Saiki Gouto, who's been generally ominous and who stabbed Shiki to death off in a different dead end. So that seems significant, even if thus far I have nowhere near enough pieces to put what's up with the Saikis together into any sort of coherent picture.
[11:23 PM] (...was Mio somehow involved in the incident with the Loud Dogs In The Nighttime that woke Shiki up? And/or with the thing where, despite Vlov lacking Nrvnqsr's "have more than one animal familiar" superpower, there were still two dogs in the elevator at the head of Vlov's attack on the hotel? Certainly she made some sort of obscure comment about dogs, during the "Shiki runs away from the hotel room and sits in the park debating whether to really go through with abandoning Arcueid" branch. Once again: not nearly enough evidence for me to be confident. But I've got my eye on her, at least.)
[11:53 PM] Also, while I’m at it with the various mysteries left hanging whose answers aren’t clear to me just on the basis of familiarity with the original: - Why, at the start of Day 7, is Shiki in that state of “feverish in a manner that seems mutually-reinforcing with his more-overt-than-normal attraction to Akiha”? There’s no succubus to leave him pre-flustered, this time. But it’s clearly something weird going on beyond his normal health issues and his normal attraction to Akiha, there. - Whose familiar / shapeshifted form / whatever-else-it-might-be is the panther that keeps showing up? Whoever they are, they don’t seem inherently hostile to Shiki; the panther shows up just before he passes out, in the aftermath of his first fight with Roa, and nonetheless he wakes up alive the next day. But they also don’t seem inherently non-hostile to him, because the panther totally does tear his throat out if he ends up killing Arcueid a second time in the alleyway. - What’s up with Shiki’s nighttime jaunt into the hidden attic, on the first night? - What’s up with Shiki’s nighttime jaunt into the one alleyway, on the second night? - What’s up with Shiki’s throat-itchiness, early on? It seems like plausibly Noel’s fault somehow, but details are highly unclear of what plausibly-she did, why, and what its effects are (beyond “be yet another component in the soup of negative mental influences Shiki spends the story stewing in”). - What’s up with the various new characters? (Saiki Gouto, Saiki Mio, Arach, Noel, Mario, the third Church person whose name I forget, Vlov, perhaps a couple more I’m forgetting as well; all seem like they have things going on beyond what’s been revealed thus far.) - What’s the prior time saving Shiki that Ciel alludes to, after saving him from Roa? Was it in fact her, rather than Noel, who cleared the path for him to stab Vlov? Or was there some other occasion that I managed to miss or which happened in Secret Backstory or something?

Six of Powers - Meet the Cast!
The main characters for our story, all of which (well, one exception) were child experiments at the Libera Foundation before they escaped, causing mayhem along the way.
(Which...might not have been their fault.)
The Six
🟠Maricela "Mari" Muñiz
30 / 5'07"
Brunette / Hazel eyes
May 6 (Taurus)
Demisexual, Demigirl (She/They)
Powers: Dragon Attributes (Heightened senses, claws, fangs, sometimes grows scales, can sense other's powers, very durable) + Self-Healing (think Wolverine)
The Main Character!
The story follows Mari as she returns to City in hopes of finding more about her past, as she suffers from amnesia due to the fall of the Libera Foundation. Quiet and reserved, ever since she returned she has found herself feeling bolder and wanting to come more out of her shell.
⚫️Jun Liu
30 / 6'02"
Black hair / Dark Brown eyes
October 30 (Scorpio)
Bisexual (He/Him)
Powers: Invulnerability, super strength, super endurance, super senses
Jun is the first of her former lab-mates that Mari re-meets when she returns to City. Notoriously stoic and formal with those he doesn't know, Jun is a very guarded person and one almost always feels like there is a thick piece of glass between them and him. As of lately, he really only smiles genuinely with his family, Trisha, and two coworkers.
🟡Patricia "Trisha" Ramone
30 / 5'10"
Blonde / Blue eyes
July 7 (Cancer)
Lesbian (She/Her)
Powers: Chemical Control/Alchemy (Can control the makeup of chemical compounds, rising or lowering different levels. Liquid compounds are easier for her to control)
As the only two who remained in City, Trisha and Jun are BFFS, even if both suffer from RBF. Trisha is deadpan, sarcastic, and no nonsense, a fearsome combination that allowed her to take over as CEO and wrangle her late father's company into something that would actually benefit not only the city, but the other survivors of the Libera Foundation's fall. That is how Unity Pharmaceutical and the Havenside Medical Center were born.
🔴Nathaniel "Nate" Greer
32 / 5'06"
Ginger / Green eyes
October 2 (Libra)
Queer (He/Him)
Powers: Telepathy, Telekinesis, Precognitive Dreams
As the oldest of the Six, Nate was the first to search for the others as soon as he had the means post escape (i.e. Facebook). He's incredibly blunt and straightforward with his words, as miscommunication and emotional turmoil are tiresome to deal with.
🟢Kaya Walters
29 / 6'05"
Black / Brown eyes
March 20 (Pisces-Aries)
Pansexual, Transgender (She/Her)
Powers: Sun Based (Super strength under direct sunlight, Light Control, Mild plant and heat control)
The younger of the twins, Kaya knew she was a girl from a young age, all the way before the Foundation even. It was actually Nate at the time who helped her choose her name as he overheard her thoughts accidentally. Now, Kaya is a bright woman who takes no punches and cares deeply for her friends and family.
🔵Dayvon Walters
29 / 6'05"
Black / Brown eyes
March 20 (Pisces-Aries)
Gay (He/They)
Powers: Moon Based (Super strength under moonlight, Shadow Control, Mild control over water and the tides)
The older of the twins, Dayvon has always been protective of Kaya since they were children. He's much more high-strung and cynical than his sister, which is a contrast to when he was child and was just as loud. Nowadays, he is the Mom Friend whenever someone can get him outside.
The Exception
🟣Laquisha "Quisha" Liu
8 / 4'03"
Black / Dark Brown eyes
September 12 (Virgo)
Powers: Empathy, Premonition, Reality Manipulation (Caveat: Equivalent Exchange for any wish)
If it wasn't for Quisha, Jun and Mari wouldn't have re-met since Mari works at Quisha's faaavorite bakery! So they have her to thank! Quisha is Jun's niece and adopted daughter. Even though she lost her parents young, she tries to stay positive so she can be a beam of light for her remaining family!
The...Other Exception?
⚪️Harley Gable
30 / 5'09"
Brunet / Blue-Gray eyes
January 29 (Aquarius)
Pansexual, Grey-romantic (He/Him)
Powers: Absorption (Can absorb the powers of others, which increases his own physical and mental ability)
???
Harley is also a survivor from the Libera Foundation. He was just separate from the rest of the Six. As a child, Harley was very shy and insecure. He really only had one friend at the Foundation and then that friend disappeared, leaving him all alone. As an adult, Harley is much more confident to the point of being very charismatic and charming. It's just...sometimes his smile seems...off.....

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur Spoiler-Filled Review
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, also called Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur or Moon Girl, is an animated superhero adventure series created by Laurence Fishburne and Helen Sugland. It is based on the 2010s Marvel Comics series, Moon Girl, by Brandon Montclare, Amy Reeder, and Natacha Bustos.
Reprinted from Pop Culture Maniacs and Wayback Machine. This was the twenty-? article I wrote for Pop Culture Maniacs. This post was originally published on April 24, 2023.
The plot of Moon Girl centers on a young girl named Lunella Lafeyette (voiced by Diamond White). She is secretly a superhero named Moon Girl, named after her favorite scientist, and a student by day. She uses a dimensional portal to bring a T-Rex named Devil Dinosaur (voiced by Fred Tatasciore), to the streets of New York City. Her best friend, Casey (voiced by Libe Barer) helps her, while she fights against villains like The Beyonder, a mischievous and curious trickster voiced by Fishburne.
Lunella's family have an important role in this series. Her grandmother Mimi, mother Andria, father James Jr., and grandfather "Pops" are protagonists. They are voiced by acclaimed actors such as Alfre Woodward, Sasheer Zamata, Jermaine Fowler, and Gary Anthony Williams. I personally remembered Williams for voicing characters in Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance, Velma, The Cuphead Show!, and The Owl House, or when Zamata voiced Jade in the subpar film, The Mitchells vs. the Machines.
From the get-go, I knew that Moon Girl would have a superb animation quality because the show's production companies include the animation arm of Disney (Disney Television Animation), a Marvel Studios subsidiary (Marvel Animation), and two animation studios: Titmouse and Flying Bark Productions. The latter two are known for Star Trek: Lower Decks, Fairfax, The Legend of Vox Machina, Glitch Techs, What If...? and Pantheon.
Fishburne's own production company, Cinema Gypsy Productions, is helping produce Moon Girl. This could be part of the reason the series got a favorable reception from executives, resulting in renewal of a second season before the first season had premiered. The animation style is said to be inspired by Spider-Verse, pop art such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, and Keith Haring, along with comic book and graffiti style, and other influences.
Moon Girl has an impressive cast including well-recognized names like Indya Moore, Craig Robinson, Pamela Adlon, Jennifer Hudson, Anna Akana, and Asia Kate Dillon. It includes actors of Indian, Iranian, Puerto Rican, Vietnamese, and Palestinian descent.
This is reinforced by executive producer Steve Loter, composer Raphael Saadiq, and producers Pilar Flynn and Rafael Chaidez. Loter is an executive producer of The Ghost and Molly McGee and has been recognized as a former Kim Possible producer. Saddiq previously did the discography for Lovecraft Country Season 1. Flynn was co-producer of Elena of Avalor.
Show director Trey Buongiorno previously been a storyboarder on Glitch Techs and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Samantha Suyi Lee storyboarded on Cleopatra in Space, Christine Liu on Steven Universe, Rodney Clouden on Futurama, and Ben Juwono on Big Hero 6. Show writers Jeffrey M. Howard, Kate Kondell, Halima Lucas, Liz Hara, Taylor Vaughn Lasley, Maggie Rose, and Lisa Muse Bryant have written for Elena of Avalor, Rugrats, Sesame Street, Broad City, and Kenan.
The cast and crew of Moon Girl support the series' aim to be something for "everyone" and have tones of "heart...comedy, incredible action and great music" as Loter put it. What he is saying has validity since the series is clearly smart, punchy, dynamic, dazzling, and enchanting, with a unique personality.
youtube
Representation in Moon Girl is central to the show's storyline. In an interview with the show's producers in February 2023, Loter noted that the show started with Laurence Fishburne loving the Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur comic series because he had read the original late 1970s Devil Dinosaur comic. Supervising producer Rodney Clouden said that it "means a lot" for the series to have the first Black female protagonist in a superhero series by Marvel.
Later in the interview, Clouden added that Lunella is more than young Black girl into science and math, but is about helping her community and family. This is because her brains are her superpowers, not any other special abilities. She is a 13-year-old who has teen problems that are relatable, and universal. This is done with the intention of making the series inspirational and creating "sophisticated and elevated children’s program", to summarize Clouden's words.
There is more beyond the interview with Loter and Clouden. Like The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, Craig of the Creek, or My Dad the Bounty Hunter, the series has a Black-majority main cast. Moon Girl is different than those two series, in that it is centered on superheroes. There are very few other Black superhero animated series, apart from three prominent series, either Vixen in the 2010s, Static Shock in the 2000s, or Todd McFarlane's Spawn in the 1990s. Various additional Black cartoons aired since the 1970s, but few are in the superhero genre.
Moon Girl has outward LGBTQ representation. This includes Lunella's classmate, Tai, and living/A.I. supercomputer named LOS-307, which are both non-binary, and Brooklyn, an openly trans character. Furthermore, Casey has two dads: Isaac and Antonio.
The voice actors for Tai and LOS-307, Ian Alexander and Asia Kate Dillon, are non-binary in real life, while Indya Moore, the voice of Brooklyn, is trans and non-binary. In addition, Wilson Cruz and Andy Cohen, who voice Casey's dads, are both gay actors. It remains to be seen if any of the main cast will be shown as LGBTQ or not. Some fans have seen hints of romantic attraction between Casey and Lunella, shipping them either as "Lucasey" or "Mediamoon", but ship this has not been confirmed presently. Furthermore, it is possible that since Michael Cimino, who voices Lunella's loud friend, Eduardo, has seemed to say his sexual identity is fluid, this may be reflected in his character.
In watching Moon Girl, I was reminded by the fact that Moore previously voiced a trans character in animation (Shep in Steven Universe Future). Recently, Dillon provided the voice for the genderfluid and pansexual Val/entina Romanyszyn in the ever-controversial and problematic gen:LOCK. This series appears to be the first voice role for Cohen, but not for Alexander or Cruz.
This is not unique to Moore and Dillion. Diamond White has provided her voice for characters in Phineas and Ferb and Sofia the First. Tatasciore has voiced characters in animated series since the 1990s. Fowler prominently did voices for Tuca & Bertie and BoJack Horseman. Others have voiced characters in wide-ranging series including We Bare Bears, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Mira, Royal Detective, The Simpsons, and Hamster & Gretel.

The show's first episode began with a bang and pulled me in almost immediately. I've been lamenting the reality that few present series have roller-skating protagonists. This could be because wearing such shoes seem almost retro these days. It is part of Lunella's shtick, as she skates around fighting villains with the help of her dinosaur (Devil), using her gadgets for good.
Having a protagonist move around in roller skates puts in her good company alongside protagonists such as Sakura Kinomoto in Cardcaptor Sakura and Candace Flynn in Phineas and Ferb. Occasionally Kim Possible of Kim Possible and Milo Murphy in Milo Murphy's Law wear them. The same is the case for characters in the Steven Future Universe episode "Bismuth", possibly Jenny /XJ-9 in My Life as a Teenage Robot, and more directly, Neon Katt as shown in some RWBY volumes.
What further endeared me to Moon Girl was the setting, in New York's Lower East Side, and character's relatability. In the 44-minute first episode, Lunella almost abandons being a superhero, after Devil is seriously injured by Aftershock. She is reassured on her path by her wise grandmother, Mimi (voiced by Alfre Woodard). The latter makes even more sense after the revelation in the season one finale that Mimi knew that Lunella was Moon Girl the entire time!
I can see how Moon Girl is like the musical coming-of-age comedy, Karma's World, created by rapper Ludacris. Both series emphasize the importance of community, family, and history. The latter is manifested within Moon Girl with blending of the old with the new. Moon Girl uses a cassette player as a device. The show's fight scenes featured music which fits perfectly with the story and action, while in-keeping with the series style. As a person who enjoys interacting with "analog" technology, or possibly soon-to-be analog (CDs and DVDs), I liked this part of the story.
The series has similarities with Karma's World and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder when it comes to episodes about the dangers of fighting online trolls, and themes of cooperation (rather than competition), friendship, self-acceptance, patience, and Black girl's hair. One episode even echoes the "Sugar Rush" episode of Elena of Avalor. Lunella speeds up tasks because they are taking "too long", reminding me of Elena using her powers to speed up the making of chocolate desserts. Another episode slightly mirrors Steven Universe finale "Change Your Mind" where Steven fuses with himself (Pink Steven), when Lunella comes back together with her hair, Mane (voiced by Jennifer Hudson), promising to take care of it.
Moon Girl has recurring villain-of-sorts, as noted earlier. He is one of the most playful I've seen in animation and is named the Beyonder. He is not conniving like Cece Dupree in Karma's World or downright evil such as Salem in RWBY. He can be playful and fun, but can do a lot from the snap of a finger. In fact, he even threatens to destroy all of humanity in the show's seventh episode, unless Lu "proves" to him that humanity is worth saving.
In another, he kidnaps Lunella's mother and Casey, threatening to send them to another dimension, where she will never see them again. He never considers how his actions will cause trauma, only claiming that what he is doing is "helping" her, which is questionable. Hopefully, Lunella doesn't have a meltdown like Ruby Rose in Volume 9 of RWBY, who takes her own life, or Steven Universe in Steven Universe Future who becomes a monster.
The ninth episode of Moon Girl mirrored some plot points in the classic Futurama episode "Time Keeps Slippin'" and the more-recent Cleopatra in Space episode "Do-Over". In all three cases, skipping forward in time goes horribly wrong, but with completely different results. In the case of Moon Girl, the episode points to the dangers of A.I., as shown by the Skipster App, and hints at possible future scenes in the show's second season.
The value of a work-life balance is emphasized through Lunella faking a sickness to get out of a photoshoot. This reminds me of the Cleopatra in Space episode "Cleopatra Needs Space". The difference is that Lunella lies to her friend Casey, claiming she cannot get of bed so she can have a break, while Cleo wants to get away from her two friends who are flirting with one another. However, Moon Girl doesn't as directly counter the issues with overwork, making it different, in that regard, from the isekai anime, I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level, which emphasizes this theme repeatedly.
I further enjoyed the episode in which Lu rallies her community against the Muzzlers, two White home inventors, who are trying to gentrify the Lower East Side. The episode examines gentrification as much the Season 2 finale or three-part Season 4 finale of Karma's World, both of which approach the topic in their own ways. Moon Girl is more poignant on this topic than the construction by the golf-addicted Mafia in Birdie Wing, in which the protagonist's family are evicted, or that shown in City of Ghosts.
youtube
The last few Moon Girl episodes, which focus on value of chosen family, facing your fears, and being perfect the way you are, strongly end the first season. These episodes also center plotlines about Jewish traditions (since Casey is part Jewish) and the issues with clout-chasing. The latter is somewhat reflected in certain episodes of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.
The two-part season one finale of Moon Girl is unique. The villain, Maris Morlak (voiced by Wesley Snipes), wants to construct a dimensional portal so he can gain recognition for his contributions from White leaders, which are those with authority.
Maris reveals that his work, and that of Lu's grandmother, Mimi, were ignored by their White bosses, with White scientists taking all the credit when speaking to the U.S. military generals. This story of casual and institutional racism is more relevant than ever, with White supremacy currently running rampant across society. I liked how even though Mimi disagrees with his method (opening the portal), she agrees with his concerns, but says he doesn't need others to validate him.
The actions of Maris go beyond the actions taken by other series villains, such as the Rat King, Abyss, and Gravitas, and Odessa Drake. He has an army of followers to support him, called the Enclave, and is willing to do anything to achieve his goals. In fact, he is probably the most ruthless villain of the series, destroying Lunella's underground lab, even when Devil is trapped inside, causing Lunella to drop to her knees and think Devil died. Although this is not the case, it undoubtedly deepens Lunella's growing trauma, which may be addressed more in season 2.
The first season of Moon Girl ends on a cliffhanger, with Mimi and Lu turning off the dimensional portal from each side. It could possible provide fuel for crossover fan fictions to be written by dedicated fans. The second season of Moon Girl may feature more of S.H.I.E.L.D. and its Agent, Maria Hill (voiced by Cobie Smulders), tying the series more into the Marvel Universe.
The growing friendship between Lunella and Casey will likely be an important part of the next season. By the end of the season, Casey becomes almost becoming the equivalent of Tomoyo Daidouji in Cardcaptor Sakura, who made all of Sakura Kinomoto's Cardcaptor outfits. This is because Casey made the outfits that Lunella used as a superhero. In addition, it is possible that the Beyonder will have a bigger role in the next season, and there be more fourth-wall breaks. The series might even have a storyline akin to the OK K.O. episode "Your World Is an Illusion", in which K.O. realizes that his whole world is an illusion.
Moon Girl fills the void left by the season 2 finales of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder on February 1 and Star Wars: The Bad Batch on March 29, and the series finales of The Owl House (on April 8) and Amphibia in May 2022. Unfortunately, with the last episode of Moon Girl airing on the Disney Channel on May 6, it may be some time before any other series with as strong plot, characters, animation, and writing airs on Disney+ or other Disney-related platforms.
Although Kiff and Hamster & Gretel have their merits, as do any of the other animated series on Disney+ or Disney Channel, none of them measures up to Moon Girl, or the quality of The Bad Batch, Amphibia, and The Owl House. The same may be the case for upcoming series such as Hailey's On It!, Primos, Iwaju, Cookies & Milk, Tiana, or Moana: The Series, something which can only be proven or disproven after said series begin airing.
Although the episode-dumps on Disney+, the equivalent of Stevenbombs, undoubtedly reduced the possible audience, Moon Girl remains a shining example of a recent animated series. It can be enjoyed by all, even though it is primarily aimed at children. It is for that, and reasons I have previously stated, I recommend this series and look forward to the second season.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is currently airing on Disney+.
