just finished Smile Precure!
overall I think it was a fun season
I think of the characters of this season as the Yes 5 cast made better (except for Miyuki sorry I really like you but I still prefer Nozomi) the villains were also amazing (Akaoni and Wolfrun my beloveds they are my husbands actually)
this season is definitely great at comedy the scene of Wolfrun trying to steal the grandma's bad energy is just *chef's kiss*
(btw Candy kinda annoying)
#precure#Smile Precure#also the eps revolving around Majorina's inventions shouldn't be a thing there's too many of them#(except for the Happy Robo one this one is peak)#Cure Peace Cure March and Cure Sunny my beloveds

Kiibo x Reader One-shot: Could I see red twine too?
How was one able to see this red string? Did it look like any other red string or was it special? Did it feel different? Was there a scientific explanation behind it, or not? Was it chemicals in the brain, or⊠something else.
Was it something only a human could experienceâŠ
True, not every human could see this red string tied around their pinky, but many did, and those who didnât were still very human with emotions so⊠wouldnât he be able to see it too? Kiibo though not human, was built to be the next closest thing and he had emotions too! He was also a real person soâŠ
If he could see the string, wouldnât that be proof he was a person? A person deserving of some respect, someone who could be treated as human!
But he could not. True, he could just be aromantic, but⊠it hurt. Sure people had fallen in love and married those who were not attached to the other end of their string, they were able to be happy, but⊠if Kiibo had a soulmate, surely they would see him as human, right?
He just⊠Kiibo didnât want to feel so isolated, so alone, so, if he had a red string tied to his pinky, even if he never met the person on the other end, itâd bring him some comfort, knowing there was SOMEONE other than Dr. Idabashi who would treat him like he was any other person.
âHuh?â After adjusting his glasses, making sure he had read the address correctly the middle aged man smiled as he strode over to the kitchen table. âKiibo, thereâs a letter for you.â âA letter for me!?â âI believe so. I donât think any other person named Kiibo lives here, or did you secretly build yourself a twin sibling unbeknownst to me?â As he walked past the table, the man placed the letter on it, continuing into the kitchen. No matter how many times he saw it, a pang of pain and guilt shot right through Kiibo seeing that prosthetic leg. It had been years, and he could walk on it like he was never injured, but Kiibo could never not feel unsettled knowing some other âKiiboâ, âhimselfâ had caused such irreparable damage.
When he managed to tear his gaze from the man Kiibo looked to the letter, flabbergasted at what was written on it. âHopeâs Peak AcademyâŠâ Hopeâs Peak, that prestigious academy, recognized him? But what talent could he have!? Surely this meant the school recognized him as human, right? Why else would they invite him!? W-was this his proof!? Proof at last of his personhood? If such a place recognized him, surely-
â⊠oh.â âHmm? Something wrong Kiibo?â âAh! Nothing! Nothing, Iâm just⊠shocked.â A clanking sound rang out as the man dropped his spoon, clamping his hands over his mouth, desperate to hold in his laughter, which still came seeping out as a chuckle. âS-shocking you say.â Instantly Kiiboâs entire face flushed a bright red, realizing the pun he had accidently made. âIâm going to my room!â
After closing the door behind himself, he flipped on a fan on his desk, sitting before it, hoping itâd help him cool off faster. Then, soon enough he looked back to the letter. âUltimate Robot.â He was planning on going to Dr. Idabashiâs school of robotics, itâs not like any other school was going to accept him⊠Well, except for Hopeâs Peak, that is. So, no matter where he went, heâd just be âthe robotâ. So, what difference did it make!? It wasnât going to matter where he went, did it?
âKiibo? Are you alright in there? Itâs been three days.â âYeah! I am!â The man stood by the door, a deep concern welling up within him. âCare to talk?â âNo.â â⊠Well, if you ever do want to, Iâll be in my office this evening.â âOkay.â For a moment he continued to stand by the door, finding it hard to bring himself to move. He wanted to say more, but what, he was unsure.
âUm, Dr. Idabashi?â âKiibo!â The man practically pounced on Kiibo, engulfing him into a hug. âDr.- Ida- DAD! Youâre crushing me!â âAccept the hug, you scared me holding yourself up in your room for a whole week!â After holding on for a moment longer, the Doctor let go, taking a step back. âSo, what is it you want to see me about?â He smiled, his voice so kind and warm. âWell⊠Iâd like to go to Hopeâs Peak! Please donât be disappointed!â âOh Kiibo.â He placed a hand on Kiiboâs head, lightly stroking his hair. âWhat could there possibly be to be disappointed in?â âWell⊠Donât you want me to go to your school? I mean, your own creation not wanting to go to your school, wouldnât it look bad or hurt you?â â⊠Maybe, but this is about what you want, not me.â âBut-â âNo, buts. Those are for sitting. Now, do you want to go to Hope Peak, or not?â Kiibo clutched the letter. In both places heâd simply be seen as a robot, there would be no way to go around it, but, just maybe, in a school not centered around robotics he could be seen as human as well. And Idabashi seemed alright with it, so⊠this was alright, he wasnât hurting his father again, right? âY-yes. I want to go to Hopeâs Peak.â âIâll get started on the paperwork then.â
This was it, no turning back now. Kiibo was at Hopeâs Peak. It was certainly an experience. He met some great people like Shuichi, Miu, and Gonta, and he also met some not so great people like Kokichi, and Soda. However, there was one person that always stood out to him, you. You didnât attend Hopeâs Peak, not even as a reserve course student, but at a different High School nearby. You first met one another after school. âExcuse me, but are you a cosplayer?â âOh, uh, no. I am K1-B0, a robot.â âWhat!? No way! You look too human, and what would a robot be doing at a clothing store anyway? I donât think they need clothes?â âThatâs robophobic!â âHuh? RoboâŠphobic?â You were baffled seeing the guy point at you. It was⊠an interesting first introduction. However, you both often ran into one another in the same shopping outlet so through chatting you were able to get a better introduction. âHopeâs Peak, huh. I have no idea how you can stand going there, it sounds so stressful!â âIt is exciting. Almost everyone has rather loud personalities and being so skilled in such a variety of things only adds to that.â âI could never keep up in a place like that!â âI donât know about that. You get used to it.â In his hectic school life Kiibo rather enjoyed the peace and calm he always found around you. That was what made you special. Whenever he saw you, no matter how bad his day had been, no matter how many times Kokichi had called Kiibo an unfeeling robot, or Soda tried to dismantle him, you were able to brighten his day. Soon he found himself going to that shopping district every day hoping to meet you again.
There was something else that also made you stand out.
âHey, Kiibo. This little boutique a few streets over just opened, want to come check it out with me?â âSure! Letâs be on our way!â As you took his hand Kiibo felt... something. It was like a shock, or a spark, the feeling was there for the briefest of moments, but it was definitely there. He soon forgot it though, getting preoccupied was chastising you for deciding to run on the slick wet ground so closely to the street!
In his time away from home Kiibo often texted Idabashi, about his day, if he noticed and glitches or malfunctions. âSo, did you meet with Y/N today?â âYes, but I have other friends besides them.â âReally? You never talk about anyone else though.â âI do too! Just scroll up!â Then Idabashi sent multiple screen shots of Kiibo writing entire paragraphs about you. He blushed, embarrassed that his father would do this. This didnât mean anything, Kiibo was just good at giving thorough reports, and given he spent much of his time with you, of course his experiences with you would be lengthy. âSo⊠when are you going to ask them out?â âDAD!â âSo did I make you blush?â âDAD STOP!â Though he meant too, he forgot to report that spark he felt.
The next day he was going to be with his classmates but... âAre you sure you want to spend your birthday like this though? Iâm sure your classmates have a surprise party, or something planned for you.â âIâm sure, being with you on my birthday is the best gift I could receive.â Admittedly, he felt magnetized to you, and he already knew why. âAw. Thank you. Since weâre here, I might as well give you your gift.â You picked up the paper bag you had placed beside the bench the pair of you sat on and picked something out. âTa-da!â You tossed it over Kiiboâs head, then tightened it around his neck. âThe red scarf at the boutique!â âI saw you eyeing it and thought itâd make for the perfect gift, since you didnât buy it for yourself for some reason.â âAh, thank you Y/N!â How were you able to do this he wondered. Somehow, every time you met, you talked, even when he simply looked over the texts you had sent to one another, his affection for you only grew exponentially and there seemed to be no signs of it stopping⊠Even that spark, himself momentarily unable to function, so many emotions flooded him, he simply couldnât keep up⊠He couldnât imagine spending his birthday any other way than being with his crush. Being with you was enough for him, but then you just had to go and get him this scarf. For a moment he worried you were going to make him malfunction again.
âSo, what do you want to do?â âOh, uh⊠I donât know.â âCome on, there must be something. Like⊠Hmm⊠We could take a walk around the park or-â âThat sounds good.â âAlright then.â You quickly stood up, taking Kiiboâs hand, dragging him onto his feet with you. But then you yelped, pulling your hand back. âIâm sorry! Uh, static electricity.â âOkay.â You reached out for Kiiboâs hand but this time he ripped his hand away. âMaybe you shouldnât do that. Just in case thereâs more.â That was just static electricity, right? âYou are okay though?â âStatic is fine Kiibo. Itâs surprising but doesnât hurt too much. I appreciate the concern though.â Did⊠did he hurt you? He looked to your hand and arm. You seemed fine, he couldnât see any signs of muscle spasms nor were there burn marks where you had touched him. You didnât say anything last time he felt that spark, so maybe that was just static and nothing more⊠even if he felt that spark again. Besides Dr. Idabashi modified him so he couldnât hurt anyone again, he couldnât. You even said you were fine but⊠Kiibo stuffed his hands into his coat pockets.
Kiibo watched as the leaves danced about in the air, carried along by the wind. He rather liked those warm reds, oranges, and yellows. Autumn was probably his favorite season now that he thought about. Not too hot, not to cold, not rainy, sure there was wind, but it just added to the beauty of the season and could do minimal damage to him unless it was very powerful. He adored the crunching sound of leaves beneath oneâs feet, and that chattering that came along with itâŠ
Chattering?
Looking for the source his gaze landed on you, who was hugging yourself, rubbing your upper arms with your hands. You shivered and closed your eyes as another gust flew past. âY/N, here.â âOh no, Kii-â âI insist!â He draped his coat over your shoulders, making sure to not accidentally touch you in the process. âIâm fine really.â âNo, you can get sick, I canât. You need this more than I do.â âBut you canât enjoy your own coat. I know how much you enjoy fashion; this feels wrong.â You probably werenât thinking when you said that, not taking the implication of those words into consideration. He didnât need the coat, you did, so that reasoning didnât matter⊠Even if it caused a soft warmth to ignite under his breast plate. âI can enjoy it plenty seeing you wear it. Itâs becoming on you and matches nicely with your turtleneck. âO-oh⊠thank you.â A light pink dusted your cheeks, likely an effect of the cold. âLetâs go to that cafĂ© and get you warmed up.â He pointed to a little cafĂ© at the across the street from the park before leading the way. âBut you canât eat, wonât you be bored?â âYour health is my top priority right now.â âBut what do you want?â âI want you to enjoy yourself. Thatâs allâ â⊠But itâs YOUR birthday, not mine. Come on.â Oh⊠thatâs why you said that, because it was his birthday. Now it made sense. Birthdays are always treated as special, even for inanimate objects, though thatâs mostly for buildings, but⊠it made sense now.
âWell⊠I know there will be a fireworks display at the lakeside tonight. What do you think?â You simply stood there, straight faced, not saying a thing. â⊠Y/N?â âIâm not giving you my input. If thatâs what you want, if thatâll make you happy, do it. Iâm just here to tag along for the ride that is the amazing Kiiboâs life!â âAmazing Kiibo?â âYes! You, my friend, my companion, my partner in crime, are amazing! What? Canât take a compliment?â âHah! Finally someone has noticed!â He smirked, placing his hands on his hips. âYes, the most dazzling, most kind, most selfless man in the world, Kiibo Idabashi!â You chuckled seeing the confused expression on Kiibo. âSomething wrong? No oneâs called you by your full name before?â âNo, Y/N, Idabashi is not my last name, I donât have one.â âReally dude!? Dr. Idabashi is SO your dad, donât deny it.â âHeâs my creator, of course heâs like a father figure to me.â You face palmed before searching through the coat pockets, taking out Kiiboâs phone once you found it. âWhat are you doing!?â âHacking!â âGuessing my password is not hacking and GIVE ME MY PHONE BACK!â Kiibo tried reaching for his phone, but you held the phone out of reach with one hand, while the other easily pushed Kiibo back. âWell⊠fine.â You then passed him his phone back. âBut only because youâre my favorite person in the world.â â⊠Your absolute favorite, out of all the billions and billions of people on this planet?â âYep!â You simply smile with your eyes closed, just making your entire expression all the cuter. Wait⊠âfavorite personâŠâ
âŠ
A deep blush covered Kiiboâs entire face as those words sunk in, that fact that YOU of all people said that sunk in, sinking so deeply into him, this memory was one he would be able to recall with perfect clarity without even a speck of dust out of place. He smiled. It was the kind of smile that seamed to radiate, being infectious, the kind of smile where without even seeing it, you could feel the soft and kind joyous jubilation it reflected.
Then it was evening? âKiibo! Oh, thank FUDGE youâre alright.â âI told you heâd be.â âDAD!? What are you doing here!?â The good doctor chuckled seeing Kiiboâs baffled reaction. âKiibo! Did you really think Iâd miss out on your birthday!? I better up my father game, this is pathetic!â You sighed with relief before smirking, Kiibo already realizing you had more than enough evidence to make your case. âDr-â âDonât you mean Dad~?â â⊠Dad, why are you actually here, itâs evening now?â Dr. Idabashi crossed his arms, and playfully huffed clearly trying to play it off as out of annoyance. âI AM here for our birthday, and⊠You froze, compounding a lot of data, making sure that precious memory was kept in a safe place and was recorded at the highest settings. Y/N here got worried and used your phone to text me you needed help. I told them youâd be functioning in no time, but they didnât seem to believe me till you awoke just now.â Before Kiibo could say anything, you held up your hands, as if trying to show you were innocent, clean of any crime. âI didnât look through anything. Just texted your dad and nothing else, I swear.â You passed Kiibo his phone back. âThank you, both of you, and Iâm sorry for worrying you.â Idabashi lightly chuckled, placing a hand on Kiiboâs head, ruffling Kiiboâs hair, despite said hair refusing to budge. âItâs alright, now I know thereâs a few tweaks I should make, but thatâll be for another day. Go and have fun now.â âWeâre not going to run a check?â âWeâll catch up at Hopeâs Peak, for now, Iâm bestowing Y/N with the honor of being my assistant and checking that your mobile functions are still working.â He smiled walking awayâŠ
though he couldnât resist taking one last look. You took Kiiboâs hand, and the pair of you chatted about something before running for who knows where. It did Idabashiâs heart good to see his son had found such a companion. Kiibo didnât have many friends before Hope Peak. Hopefully, this was the start of a new chapter in Kiiboâs life. Then again, this is the path Kiibo chose, of course it was going to lead to something great.
âCome on! We have to hurry, or weâll miss them!â âI know and I am!â âWell hurry faster!â A giddy laughter erupted from you as you raced against the setting sun. It was practically gone already, but you had to make it. âWe can make it!â âWe can see the fireworks from anywhere around here!â âYeah, but we need the best spot!â Slipping down the hill, racing down the path, weaving through the slightly forested birch wood, you came to a stop beside the giant lake. You fell to your knees, completely out of breath. âY/N!â You gave Kiibo a thumbs up, showing you were alright while still letting you catch your breath. Then your heard it. That crackling boom as the world around you was half dark, half momentarily bursting with bright colors before it faded. Kiibo kneeled beside you, just wanting to be sure you were alright and didnât pull a muscle. When you turned to look to the sky Kiibo saw the array of rainbows that exploded, captivating the sky reflected in your eyes. This was certainly the best way to enjoy fireworks he decided. You smiled so dreamily, Kiibo could just get lost in this moment forever.
Then you placed you hand on his cheeks. Immediately they ignited just as brightly as the fireworks above. âBeautifulâ was all you said under your breath, closing the distance between the two of you before there was none at all.
As you backed up Kiibo could see your cheeks were much like his own in that moment. âW-w-w-w-wwhaaaaaaaaaaaaâŠâ While Kiibo was left reeling you seemed to realize something. âI AM SO SORRY!â S-sorry? Sorry for what!?â âI DIDNâT ASK FOR PERMISSION! DID I MAKE YOU UNCOMFORTABLE, IâM SO SORRY I KIND OF JUST GOT CARRIED AWAY IN THE MOMENT AND I- IâM, I AM SO SORRY!â âNo! Nononononnononononono! Itâs okay! Donât worry!â The both of you buried your faces into your hands, unable to bare looking at one another out of sheer embarrassment. After a few moments of composing yourself you spoke up. âUh⊠H-happy birthday? I got you a second present?â Why did you have to say that!? Kiibo could not handle all this. âu-uh, so the kiss was a present?â âNo, I just wanted to give myself an excuse! Damn it Kiibo! Why do you have to be so smooth, and handsome, and a dork and adorable! Ugh! Well, catâs out of the bag. I, have a crush on you too.â âYOU LOOKED THROUGH MY TEXTS WITH DAD!? YOU SAID YOU DIDNâT!â âI didnât.â Kiibo froze, realizing what he just admitted. âH-how did you know then?â âKiibo, you wear your heart on your sleeve. It was pretty obvious.â âI- really?â You simply nodded, watching as Kiibo crumpled over, wondering just exactly how obvious his feelings were. âWait Kiibo, donât panic! I donât want you to freeze or whatever again!â
After a few minuets of the both of you panicking you finally calmed. You sighed, so glad to see Kiibo slightly better. âUh, sorry I kinda did that out of nowhere.â âDonât be! I, I-I liked⊠it. And⊠we like each other.â âYeah.â You nervously chuckled, still feeling guilty about not asking for consent to kiss Kiibo first. Kiibo tugged at his scarf with a hand, looking down to it, the sky light up, allowing him to take in that bright red. âY/N⊠Iâve never had a red string around my pinky, for as long as I could remember, but! I⊠I canât imagine a better person to be with than you!â He held up an end of the now untied scarf to you. âMaybe, because Iâm not human, my red string is different, more physical, tangible, and because of that I get to choose my soulmate! So, would youâŠâ He couldnât even finish his sentence, that blush spreading across his cheeks again seeing you wrap the scarf end around your neck. âDonât mind me, go on.â â⊠Thank you.â âNo, thank you. I like this idea, of choosing my soulmate.â
Epilogue:
It was late into the night when the fireworks display ended and even later when Kiibo had returned to Hopeâs Peak, having walked you home, and slowly walking to school, texting you constant updates that he was alright and not freezing again. Upon entering his dorm room Kiibo immediately leaped onto his bed, rolling around giddily giggling. âSo whenâs the weddi-â âAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHâ Kiibo chucked the pillows and blankets at the voice before he could even stop himself. âGee, what a great way to greet your dad.â âIâm so sorry! Are you alright!? Did I hurt you!?â With an exaggerated sigh Idabashi got up and dumped the quilt and sheets in a heap back on the bed. âIâm fine, but we still have that checkup, remember?â Getting no response he looked to confusion at Kiibo, who was lightly blushing and softly smiling holding one of his hands close to his chest, looking at his pinky.

Reasons why I shouldnât have a 1 TB secondary harddrive #34.
Faves listed below.
Faves learned about the event:
Depersonalization - Call of Cthulhu the Anime CRPG. I died, naturally, but the setup means that you can die and not completely ruin your current run.
Escape Academy - one of the better 3D freeform exploratory room escape games that Iâve played in a while so knock on wood for the overarching VN plot.
Potion Permit - Agriculture Sim with Zelda overworld and with tetromino crafting. More Rune Factory than Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley, but with a more interesting setup for the small town than Iâve seen in a while while NOT being a grim murderiffic or Twin Peaks mystery setup.
Frontier Hunter - indie indie Bloodstained/SotN Metroidvania. I am not kidding, I thought for a moment it was an Iga game.
Verge World - procgen SW Ep1 Racer, not my usual thing but it was interesting
Pocket Wheels - 3D puzzle/platformer collectaton by way of a toy car
Faves I played before the event:
Akurra - Zelda-style Puzzle game with an insane amount of puzzles. Open world, so you can go around and pop over to other islands on a whim as long as you have enough Stars to reach the giant turtle.
Brok the InvestiGator - P&C meets Beatemup meets Detective/Mystery game... so basically a better way of handling what âWill Fight For Foodâ tried to be like.
Glitched - Earthbound but Ness as a late teen / young adult got eaten by a glitch eldritch abomination. Youâre the would-be protagonistâs second-banana best friend... except not really because heâs his own character and youâre some spooky force assigned to the MC (flashbacks to OFF and Batter + Puppeteer)... by a frog.
Numina - fantasy JRPG where massive amounts of blood sacrifice led to... something (you) getting into the fantasy world as some kind of spirit guide / powerup thing
Out-Class Hunter - Sonic Robo Blast 2: The Indie Game
Gigasword - Metroidvania with a sword on par with FF7 Cloudâs bustersword as a weapon and puzzle-solving tool
Nine Sols - Xianxia Metroidvania where catpeople/spirits are rather jerkish âgodsâ/sect cultivators who are using the lower ranked members of humanity for some nefarious purpose
A lot of other things were hit or miss, didnât have enough going on to get a good taste of the game, were not my usual genre (hello all the FPSes and Terra Nil), or something about the engine crashed on me while loading up the game.
Happy to see how many SAGE games are on the event/Steam itself. A lot of the original game entries were really fun.

Top 50 Singles of 2017
Hello and welcome to the third annual edition of my top singles list (2016, 2015)
I really like writing these lists and 2017 is all about doing more of the things you like and less of the things you donât.Â
Hair Down by Mollie King would have been my top song of the year, except that ultimately it just wasnât any good.Â
This year, because Iâm feeling extra festive, I have made the list into an apple music playlist.Â
50
Allie X â Casanova
And weâre off. This chorus has one of the best hooks of the year.Â
49
Jax Jones - Breathe ft. Ina Wroldsen
Ina Wroldsen has one of my favourite voices in music. You can hear her singing backing on a lot of early songs by The Saturdays, given that she wrote most of them. First of two Jax Jones entries on the list.Â
48
Yaeji - Raingurl
Yaeji is cooler than me, you, anyone you have ever met, and anyone you will ever meet.Â
47
Lost Kings - Quit You ft. Tinashe
In which Tinashe controversially claims she is addicted to a Coldplay song.
46
Katy Perry - Bon Appétit ft. Migos
In 2013, Katy Perry was the biggest popstar on the planet, and I couldnât understand why. In 2017, she releases a string of actual bops and her career is in nosedive. Iâm ready to stan.Â
45
Josefine Myrberg - Head over Heels
Josefine Myrberg came third in Swedish Idol back in 2014. Nobody seems to be listening to her music much these days, but Head Over Heels (7.5k views at time of writing) is a genuinely beautiful song worthy of a lot more recognition.Â
44
Kehlani - Already Won
The first time I heard this I was like âyaaasâ all the way through. Kehlaniâs autobiographical ode to her own successes is a reminder to all of us to recognise that sometimes, we have already won.
43
Sigrid Bernson - This Summer
A pop song by a Swedish woman about enjoying summer. There is nothing better.Â
42
Sage the Gemini - Now & Later
Released in 2016, but reached its chart peak in 2017 so itâs allowed. Now & Later was almost my most played song of Q1 so thereâs that.Â
41
Gabrielle Aplin - Waking Up Slow
Iâve just discovered that a PIANO version of this song has 3x as many views on YouTube. That is criminal. This song is full of synths and it bops because of it.Â
40
Stockholm Noir - Hopeless Dreams
The âTake me to the south of France, Iâll feel poor againâ bit is excellent. Â
39
Anitta - Paradinha
A very good friend of mine who happens to be multi-lingual informed me that this song doesnât make any sense in about 3 different languages. Which is as ridiculous as it is iconic.Â
38
Dagny - Wearing Nothing
I love the choreography in this video. Dagny is a brilliant popstar.Â
37
Shania Twain - Poor Me
I wasnât mad about the other singles Shania released as part of her comeback this year, but this hit me for real. Shania voice has changed in tone so much, and now it suits the melancholic Poor Me perfectly.Â
36
Danny L Harle - 1UL
What a song. I wish the singer was credited so I could look into her other work because I think she has a very listenable voice.Â
35
SOFI TUKKER - Best Friend feat. NERVO, The Knocks & Alisa Ueno
That bassline. Features galore. Nonsense lyrics. A kitchen sink bop.Â
34
Dinah Nah - One More Night
Dinah Nah is an international treasure, making banger after banger for anyone who will listen. As part of the excellent Spotify for Artists year-end thing, she proudly shared that she has 894k fans in 60 countries, which is quite remarkable and warms my heart.Â
33
Shakira - Coconut Tree
I liked Malibu by Miley Cyrus but I preferred Coconut Tree by Shakira. This song is truly meditative, and takes me straight to the beach.Â
32
Tove Styrke - Say My Name
Ironic because I still canât pronounce Toveâs surname.Â
31
The Chainsmokers - Paris
I know itâs the Chainsmokers, but I think this song is actually very good. That final instrumental goes off.Â
30
PVRIS - Winter
From Paris to PVRIS, this song has one of the biggest choruses of the year. I also love that they have called the video a âvisualetteâ - so extra.Â
29
Wiktoria - As I Lay Me DownÂ
Wiktoria puts in a solid effort here, pretty much yelling her way through the entire song without taking a breath and it is incredible. Bonus points for a liberal use of âHEYâ noises throughout.Â
28
Niall Horan - Too Much To Ask
Donât @ me. I am the last person who would have expected to see Niall Horan anywhere near my top thousand songs of the year, but here we are. The only thing constant in life is change.Â
27
Lorde - Green Light
The final chorus of Green Light was one of my defining moments of Glastonbury 2017 - genuinely euphoric. I read somewhere that Lorde uses significantly more nouns than other songwriters and thatâs what makes her songs so memorable. That could be true. I havenât counted the nouns in Green Light though but it feels like thereâs a fair few.
26
Charli XCX - Out Of My Head ft. Tove Lo and ALMA
Charli XCXâs POP 2 is an absolute triumph and my album of the year. Every song has about 12 different hooks and sounds so fresh. Tove Lo and ALMA are a dream collaboration on Out Of My Head.
25
KStewart - Sex 4 Breakfast
KStewart is my favourite new artist this year, and this is the first of two singles on this list. Somebody played a âprankâ on me at Brighton Pride this summer, and told me KStewart was playing on the mainstage at 4pm. I was so excited and squeezed my way to the front. However, at 4pm KStewart was nowhere to be seen and, to my surprise, out walks Louisa Johnson. Good stuff.Â

Tinashe - Flame
The nicest thing I have ever done for myself is to buy myself VIP tickets to meet Tinashe and see her perform at Koko in Camden. Here I am like a competition winner:
It feels now like sheâs never going to break through into the top tier of popstars which is a shame, because I really think she has it all.Â
23
IMRI â I Feel Alive
The best pop song Eurovision has had in years. Unfortunately slightly strangled by the 3 minute rule, I would take another 1 or 2 choruses at the end for good measure. Imri seems like heâs having the time of his life and thatâs great to see.Â
22
Loreen - Body
It took a couple of listens, but now I am completely addicted to Body, and it is pretty much on repeat whenever I am commuting. Perfect for drowning out the real world.Â
21
Loop - As if
I follow Loop on Instagram and she seems great. This year she has released a bunch of breezy, refreshing electro-pop including As If. Iâm hoping that 2018 is her year.Â
20
Poppy - My Style (feat. Charlotte)
My Style would be right at home on Robynâs Body Talk, which is one of the greatest albums ever. As Robyn appears to be taking some time out, I am thrilled that Poppy has stepped in with her own brand of robo-pop.Â
19
Liv Lovelle - Wonât Say Too Much
For the first minute of this song Iâm always like âwhere is this goingâ, and then that drop happens and it all makes sense.Â
18
CNCO, Little Mix - ReggaetĂłn Lento (Remix)
17
Kim Petras - I Don't Want It At All
More like Kim Petr-SASS đ I Donât Want it At All is the ultimate ode to materialism and an absolute stomper.
16
Nicki Minaj - Regret In Your Tears
I feel like Nicki Minaj is too often overlooked as a popstar who sings. Regret In Your Tears is an understated jam, and she sounds great. Â
15
Astrid S - Breathe
Exactly what a pop song should sound like. I had a flatmate this year and we had nothing at all in common, apart from the we both listened to Astrid S. The power of pop music to build bridges.
14
Kelela - LMK
Kelela was one artist who made me genuinely excited about music this year. Her album Take Me Apart is exquisite, sounding both fresh and nostalgic at the same time. LMK is one of the best.
13
KStewart - Hands feat. Yungen
If there were any justice, this would have been huge for KStewart. But there isnât and here it sits with less than 50k(!) views on YouTube. Hands is completely radio-ready, and could be lifted off any Ariana album.
12
Rita Ora - Anywhere
Rita Ora has had an incredible year. I love that she hosted Americaâs Next Top Model, then sacked it in and had 3 huge top 10s, which is probably more than your fave. Anywhere was instant for me, and her best by a long way. The nonsense post-chorus is reminiscent of those early 00s garage classics. Rita herself has said that it has no meaning, and I hope that in 2018 we are able to enjoy more songs with no meaning whatsoever.Â
11
Dua Lipa - New Rules
Well this one took off didnât it. Duaâs meteoric rise has been so exciting to watch, and it was New Rules that really took it there. She just seems like a great person too, and Iâm sure 2018 will belong to Dua. Another lesson in the power of a good music video to rocket launch a songâs success.Â
10
Aly & AJ - I Know
This song is just so perfect. The return of Aly & AJ has been the most welcome surprise. I Know is cool, lazy, atmospheric, synth-pop and a major shift from their 2007 Disney days.
9
Tove Lo - Disco Tits
I said this when I wrote about Cool Girl last year, but itâs worth repeating that Tove Lo makes it seem so effortless. Disco Tits is amazing and I wouldnât be surprised if she wrote it in her sleep.Â
8
Little Mix - Power ft. Stormzy
Little Mix are just unstoppable. Every year I think they have reached their zenith and then they take it to another level. Power is single number four from their fourth album and itâs this good. By now, Jesy Nelson (the best one) knows her way around an iconic second verse, so I think itâs neat that this time her verse starts with âmy turnâ. Also - what a video. Well done everyone.Â
7
Jax Jones - Instruction ft. Demi Lovato, Stefflon Don
"All my ladiesâ was THE call to action this summer. What a song.Â
6
Carly Rae Jepsen - Cut To The Feeling
Carly Rae Jepsen has mastered the ability to make happy sounding music which suddenly hits you as heartbreaking once you get stuck into the lyrics. Cut To The Feeling was released about a week after the Manchester attacks, and for me, the line âI want to play where you play with the angels, I want to wake up with you in tanglesâ stuck out as truly devastating among the euphoric, soaring synths.Â
5
Blessed - See Through All The ColoursÂ
youtube
Iâm obsessed with Blessed. See Through All The Colours is so huge and I really thought would have been their breakthrough. Unfortunately it wasnât to be, but I think watch this space. Very excited to see what they bring in 2018.Â
4
Nadine Coyle - Go To Work
youtube
One of the best things about 2017 has been seeing the true joy that Nadine Coyle, gets from being a popstar, and equally, the true joy she took from the really quite lukewarm reception of Go To Work. Earlier in the year, Nadine made a surprise appearance at a popular London club night to sing a couple of choruses of Go To Work (she didnât even stay long enough to take her coat off). I was living in those few minutes.Â
3
Mirela - Contigo
youtube
This song was the runner up in the Spanish pre-selection show for Eurovision, and won the televote by a landslide, but was struck down by some bizarre jury voting rules. Itâs basically incredible. Itâs ridiculous, itâs trashy, itâs fun. Bai-la-la-la-UH.Â
2
Katy Perry - Swish Swish ft. Nicki Minaj
youtube
I know. A basic bop if ever there was one, but no song this year has bopped as hard as Swish Swish. I spent my entire time at Glastobury telling anyone who would listen that I only came to watch Katy Perry do Swish Swish. Everyone thought I was joking. Iâm still undecided on that music video, and that dance, but the song is brilliant.
1
Steps - Scared Of The Dark
youtube
Letâs be honest, Steps in 2017 could have been shit but instead they were amazing. The moment when this sat at number 1 on iTunes ahead of chart villain Ed Sheeran was a sweet piece of pop justice. Scared of the Dark is a banger, incredibly good pop music, and my top single of the year.Â

Inception Is A Prequel To The Matrix ⊠No, Seriously
The Matrix was responsible for blowing everyoneâs minds back in the â90s with a combination of kung fu, special effects, and Keanu Reevesâ middle school philosophy lessons. Despite the collective will of humanity to forget about its sequels, the Matrix trilogy still is a benchmark of the âReality is just a dream!â subgenre.
And then Christopher Nolan made Inception and told that entire genre to suck his balls. Fans everywhere debated whether or not the main character, Cobb (or, as I call him, âChad Inceptionâ), was still trapped in a dream at the end, despite every clue saying that he is actually in the real world. Both movies constantly draw comparisons, but the connections are always fuzzy at best. However, a unified Inception/Matrix connection makes a lot more sense than you think. In fact, Iâd go so far as saying that Inception is a prequel to The Matrix.
#7. The Events In Inception Contributed To The Machine Uprising
In the first Matrix movie, Morpheus (Laurence Goddamn Fishburne) explains to Neo (Keanu Fuckinâ Reeves) that there was a war against the Machine overlords. They donât know who attacked first, but humanity definitely âscorched the skyâ because it was an abundant source of energy for the Machines. Now, forget for an instant about the stupidity of using humans as a source of energy and think about the humansâ contingency plan: Pollute the world to starve the Machines.
For the whole Machine army to operate on only solar energy, the Machines should have huge solar panels. In our world, we reached 22 percent efficiency with Elon Muskâs SolarCity, and while thatâs impressive, itâs probably not enough to sustain the Machine army.
âBut Cracked, itâs sci-fi! It can bend some science in the name of story!â Of course! And thatâs the point: Letâs suppose the pre-war Machines have access to 90 to 100 percent efficient solar panels. Who invented them? Fischer Morrow.
Fischer Morrow is an energy company in the Inception universe thatâs about to gain a monopoly over the worldâs energy supply. The CEO of a rival company named Saito knows that if this happens Fischer Morrow will become a new superpower. Maurice Fischer is a dying old man, and his son, Robert, will gain control over the company. Cobb (Chad Inception) and his team go into Robert Fischerâs dream to implant the idea to end the monopoly and just chill the hell out for a bit.
Saito promises Cobb a get-out-of-jail free card and Park Place if successful.
What does it have to do with The Matrix? Cobb successfully makes an inception on Robert, so young Robert gives up the companyâs monopoly in order to make something else: a name of his own. So Robert turns his company toward making cheap, efficient solar energy technology to improve the world, the same technology that would be the Machinesâ main source of energy. Thatâs why humanity had to pollute the sky. If the inception wasnât made, the solar technology wouldnât be developed and Fischer Morrow wouldnât be providing the Machines with what was necessary in self-sustaining them. Thanks, Leo, you unintentional dick.
#6. The PASIV Device Is A Beta Version Of The Matrix Technology
One of the main differences between Inception and The Matrix is how the characters enter the dream. In The Matrix, humans have plugs that allow them to be in the virtual world. In Inception, they have the portable automated somnacin intravenous device, which is not as invasive as the Matrix technology. They donât have to inject a guitar amp cord into the base of their necks. At first sight, they have nothing in common. But âŠ
The first thing we must clarify is that the Machines didnât invent the Matrix technology. We know this because in the Animatrix short âMatriculated,â set during the Machine War, a group of rebels already have plugs to jack into the virtual world. In âThe Second Renaissance,â after all of humanityâs armies are defeated, the Machines start to install machinery inside human survivors through forced surgery to begin the Matrix.
But the technology is far older. Arthur, from Inception, explains, âThe military developed dream sharing â a training program where soldiers could strangle, stab, and shoot each other, then wake up.â So its original purpose was training, pretty much like this:
âYo, is your chair sticky?â âThe kid ran the Woman In Red program before us.â
War brings technological advancement, so to make the PASIV device more efficient, it is upgraded to be installed inside people. It makes the dreams more stable and allows remote access to dreams instead of giving someone a roofie.
On the downside, if you die in the dream world, you die in real life. This is actually beneficial to the Machines, because when the agents shoot a rebel, theyâll die for good. Itâs somewhat the Matrix version of a planned obsolescence.
Despite being more advanced, the Matrix technology still shares the premise of Inceptionâs Mark I, because someone had to construct the Matrix world for dreamers to live in. Thatâs explicitly said when Inceptionâs Ariadne asks how architects got involved, and Cobb answers that someone had to design the dreams. Thatâs because âŠ
#5. Cobb Constructed The Matrix
When trying to get Zionâs code from Morpheusâ mind, Agent Smith explains the first Matrix was a perfect heaven, but nobody accepted it:
âDid you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world? Where none suffered, where everyone would be happy. It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world. But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery. The perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from. Which is why the Matrix was redesigned to this: the peak of your civilization.â
This backstory is confirmed in Reloaded. Along with copious, rambling philosophical bullshit, The Architect says, âThe first Matrix I designed was quite naturally perfect. It was a work of art. Flawless. Sublime. A triumph only equaled by its monumental failure.â Cobb designed this heaven, and he is literally The Architect.
*BRAAAAAAAAAAAAM*
After the events in Inception, Cobb is living happily ever after with his kids until the war starts. Humanity eventually gets their asses handed to them by the Machines. Cobb and his kids are among the humans about to be processed in the first Matrix crop. Since he is the best extractor and an expert in dream technology, he aligns himself with the Machines in order to build it. At least he can construct a perfect dream for his children to live in. When the first Matrix falls apart, we can just assume his kids, Phillipa and James, die.
Though with a name like Phillipa, middle school would have killed her eventually.
Time passes and Cobbâs physical body is no more. Having lost everything, he is just a projection. A dream ghost (oh, holy shit, I just named my next band!). The Architect becomes the fulfilled prophecy that Saito said he would become: âAn old man, filled with regret, waiting to die alone.â
*BRAAAAAAAAAAAAM*
Even being responsible for the Matrix layouts, Cobb/Architect is not the one dreaming. Not even Neo, or Trinity, or any other asshole is. They are all sharing the dream of âŠ
#4. An Unnamed Robot Idealized The Matrix
Donât punch me, but letâs talk about another Animatrix short, because itâs pretty important to this theory. For those who havenât seen them, hereâs a spoiler of a 13-year-old animation. In the aforementioned segment âMatriculated,â a group of rebels lure in Machines with the intent of convincing them to fight on the human side. The protagonist, Alexa, puts a Machine into a dream world where they teach them about what humanity is, in the form of virtual sex and psychedelic CGI. The way it really should be taught to all middle school kids in health class.
Except for you, Phillipa.
One of the human characters remarks that they canât just reprogram the Machines, as it would be unethical (although much, much easier). They should convince them to stand by humans. What they do to captured Machines is basically implant an idea in their mechanical minds. They perform an inception.
Things go bad when the Machines invade the rebel base, killing everyone, except for the inception-ized robot that witnessed the destruction that war has brought. Now, you may wonder what the importance of this unnamed character is. Simply put, it idealizes the Matrix.
âRobo-boobs ⊠they let me dream-touch robo-boobs âŠâ
The Machines are engaged in a war they canât lose, and they have other energy options. We already told you why the Machines are actually the good guys. Humanity nukes them, starts a war, and destroys the planet. They owe us nothing, even though they keep humans in a safe world. It isnât perfect, but humans are jerks and want to live in a miserable shithole. Why?
All this because the robot that learns about human feelings faces a dilemma: how to stop the war and protect humanity but at the same protect its robo-bros. Robros? In its robot logic, the best solution is to put humans to sleep in a world where they canât do any significant harm to themselves and the Machines. You guys root for Neo and Morpheus? This little fellow is maybe the greatest hero of the whole Matrix trilogy.
