Looking back, my straight ships of my formative years can be divided into two categories:
I just want a girl to look at me like that
I just want to protect and love a girl like that
#Please look at me like that: Doctor/Rose - Jeff/Annie - Leslie/Ben#Must Protect At All Costs: all my soap opera faves; Enzo/AndrAIa; Leo/Piper; Lorelai/Luke; Leonard/Penny; Hardison/Parker#I'm pretty sure that's all my fave couples from age 11 to 23 when I found Warehouse 13 and my sexuality#they're definitely skewed towards the protecting category#being a secret knight in shining armor is why I get sorted into Gryffindor and I hate it#give me Ravenclaw or leave me as a Muggle#NO WAIT MY ER SHIPS!!#crap which Carter ship was I obsessed with?#I came in midseries so I think it was Carter/Abby#(and I was definitely crushing hardcore on Maura Tierney so Carter/Abby fits)#and then Sam came on and I got obsessed with Luka/Sam#(and I was MEGA CRUSHING on Linda Cardellini oh boy)#I only watched it for like a year or two in early/mid high school so I completely blanked on them#they're both very much in the Protect At All Costs camp#and now I'm wondering if that's more indicative of how weak most het ships are written#(because the girl isn't looking all googly eyes at the guy often enough/in a believable way often enough for me to swoon)#or if I really am just that big of a knight at heart#o_O
